straight forward. gave us four papers and no quizzes. had a rewrite policy if our grades on the paper were satisfactory
extremely boring
great professor, easy class
Really helpful, willing to accomodate his students. Very easy to talk to, willing to listen. The papers are quite easy.
explained step-by-step. papers easy. mid-term/final little harder.
His voice made me sleepy but he was very knowledgable about economics and his papers and exams were easy to bs. EVen if he does make you fall asleep its an easy class
Learned more in this class than any other so far at AU.
his accent is by far the sexiest thing i've ever heard. so sean connery... take this class- you'll wanna go every morning
"MACROOOOOOECONOMICS" he's got a crazyyyy voice, and he does a good job at teaching, although the course he teaches doesn't help in keeping someone awake.
Boring class! No one comes after the first few weeks. TA's suck! Not too hard.
The class is large so attendance isn't taken. Papers and exams easy, allowed to redo papers. Lectures are helpful and examine a lot without doing all the readings. Oh and if you attend discussions sessions once a week you get free points added on to exams.
He seemed very knowledgeable on the subject, but the TAs graded everything and his voice made him kind of annoying. If you are more into history you should take him.
wisman is a funny small man that needs to do something with his hair!!! Weird voice, dont ever need to go to class.
He's like sean connery and yoda combined. He is overly passionate about marcro and really enjoys teaching. Can be a bit vague at times. The papers are easy and the exams are straight from collander.

his voice is freaky. his papers are easy. i learned alot. the only thing i hate is he like the wizard of oz- even if you go to his office hours you get intercepted by a TA. you can never get to him.
MACROOOOOOECONOMICS!!! he talks weird and he needs to get something done to his hair! overall its a fine class and u never have to go! his voice makes me want to fall asleep. Good class but u can never reach him, the TA's do all the grading and answer your questions. Not a bad class.
you'll get used to the way he talks. he's so funny when he comes into class because his hair bounces. he's very passionate about the subject & the class is so large that you never have to go. just do the readings & you'll be fine when it comes time to do the papers.
Huge lecture, TA's absolutely suck and make up/grade the exam. Wisman does nothing for the class but make syllabus and lecture. Lectures are AMAZING, and the reading is heavy but if you do it you can not go to class and easily get an A. Attendance doesnt affect your grade.
VERY good class.Makes econ interesting! not hard at all !! very helpful! attend the discussion sessions! hes a fair teacher & is passionate abt his subject!
GREAT PROF! Incredibly knowledgeable, very passionate. He knows what he's talking about and loves talking about it. Nice, funny, interesting, overall fantastic experience.
Love this guy! Has a lot of energy. Makes the class interesting. TAs do most of grading, but they are fair. No busy work. Papers are outlined and easy. Tests are do-able. Recommended!

he expected a really good paper and the class isn't easy. but you have a grand timetalking about economic, society, drugs, sex, war, and everything else that makes history fun. the theorys are great and you can become quite the charmer at parties with this stuff. SO much fun and the man is on a natural high even at 9:55. great class but not a easy.
Fun guy, good lectures, lots of reading, but everything you read has purpose. No busy work. 3 papers and two tests for the final grade. The TA's are fine. The papers are for you to synthesize the reading from many different sources. There is a "macro" book but it's not the focus of the class. Wonderful class. Take it!
HE IS VERY PASSIONATE & FUNNY, BUT IF YOU DO NOT LIKE ECON...YOU WILL DEFINITELY WILL BE ABLE TO FALL ASLEEP AND STILL GET A GOOD GRADE. TESTS DEFINITELY REFLECT NOTES...SO IF YOU TAKE GOOD NOTES, YOU SHOULD BE OKAY. THERE IS A LOT OF READING, BUT YOU CAN DEFINITELY GET AWAY WITHOUT EVER DOING MOST OF IT. ABOUT FOUR PAPERS, MIDTERM AND FINAL.
I love jdaddy!!! Fun class, made me like macro. Also, he says hello to you in a different language every morning!! If you do the work, there's not reason not to do well in this class, even if you're not a math/econ person like me.
Wisman is a good teacher, and his large lectures are very easy to get good grades in. Just take good notes and do well on your papers. You DON'T even need to buy the books, except to use on the papers. Just share them. Go to class; it's funny and interesting. If you have a question just raise your hand and he will answer it. Go to the TA sessions.
He' hilarious in his teaching style, but if you're not interested in macro I'd warn you about the class, but if you have to take it, I recommend him as a teacher. 4 papers, midterm, final, kind of tough if you don't like the subject. I definately recommend HIM.
Very Hard and I ended up failing.
Great guy, good professor. Not difficult to get good grades because TA's do all of the grading and are really not looking to fail anyone unless you are a real dumbass and completely do not understand what you are doing. Lectures are pretty boring unfortunately but I still recommend this guy.
I love J Daddy! His lectures are amazing and very stimulating. This man knows economics extremely well. You do have 4 papers plus 2 test, but the TAs do all of the grading so it is not hard to get a good grade. You do not have to go to class and could probably do well. However, I loved Wisman and enjoyed listening to him speak.
VERY easy class. I missed quite a few classes throughout the semester and still pulled off a B+. He covers theory the first half of the semester, the second semester discussing more of the applied or real world aspect of Macroeconomics. You'll have to get used to his funny yet odd Sean Connery meets the Midlands accent. Great Class overall.
I hated macro, but go to the review sessions! It is really hard to fail if you do the work (which is little) and go the sessions. The man gives you a point a week for going on your midterm and then final. I suggest taking this class if you're looking to pass it for a gen ed., not for business or something that will use macro all the time.
I attended this class five times all semester, went to three or four review sessions before the final, and did okay on the four papers -- and got an A. He's a very clear speaker, and makes the topic interesting - extremely entertaining prof. I highly recommend the class. As a bonus, he doesn't take attendance.
he was a very entertaining professor. if you stay awake and take really good notes you should do well on the midterm. he doesnt check attendance. however, the four papers are a pain. you have a different ta grading each paper so it made it harder to know how to do well with ind. bias and preference. two exams, and four papers.
he talks funny.his accent is a mix between snagglepuss and sean connery. id always surf the net in class and did terrible in everything but i got a c
If had him in three classes, he is probably the best prof at AU, close. His 100 level class is a little boring, but at higher levels he becomes more engaging and interesting
This man is a god. When i first heard him speak I blinked a little and stared. He speaks kind of like a cross between a muppet and god himself. He speaks fairly slowly and clearly, and yet at the end of class my book is always full of notes. grading can sometimes be unfair, because it is done by a random TA, who may or may not be a complete idiot.
This professor is awsome! He makes a 200+ class feel like 30. His lectures are pretty funny plus he has a silly voice. Attendance is basically optional. Go to TA sessions. 5 papers, 1 midterm, 1 final. Gives you the review sheet for the midterm and final. Loved this guy!
The assignments are sometimes foggy
great guy..made me actually like econ. really recommend him
The most intelligent professor I've ever met!!! Although it's a 300 student class, he still manages to keep your attention! Reading is pointless, though. Take copious notes (he speaks very slowly), GO TO the REVIEW SESSIONS, write good papers (which are not easy) and you'll be fine!
This was a really simple class. All you have to do are four response papers, a midterm and a final. You get a guidline sheet for each paper that tells you what to write about, and a study guide for the midterm and final that have all questions. Go to the TA study sessions! Not only are they helpful, but you get extra credit!
Although he talks funny, he clearly explains the content of the course. There are 4 reaction papers, a mid term, and a final, but he provides a review sheet with all of the possible questions, except for 10 multiple choice questions. I highly recommend this class -- it is rather easy to make an A.
Funny, great sweaters, really primes the pump. I had never been interested in econ but Wiseman is easy to understand and easy to listen to. A very interesting class in a historical context.
His class was dry at times, but you learn to like the class. Not a lot of reading for this class. Just go to the TA sessions for the extra credit and study for the midterm and final and you will get a good grade. There were four papers, but only 1500 words so I was not bad and grading was lenient.
Professor Wisman is one of the nicest professors I have every encountered. But, despite his wisdom and atttention to hi students, he is so boring! His tests are based on his lecture, which do not follow a specific format, so you don't know what you're going to be tested on. The paper is too long for having very little guidelines. His TA is even wor
Professor Wisman is awesome! He is a great professor and very helpful with his students. Go to his office hours even if you don't have a question, just get to know him because he is super interesting. For his economic history class, just show up, take good notes and you will do well.
Very hard to please with termpaper. Multiple choice on the exams was unexpectedly subtle and therefore hard. Missing more than 1 class takes off 2 points for every additional absence from the upcoming exam. Overall, very interesting class but hard to do very well on and paper.
Good lectures very interesting topics and links new notions with the current situation! The army of teaching assistant will answer widely your questions and you will be fine because there is ONLY 4 papers and 2 exams easy for natives but i think foreigners can make it too!!! trust me ;-)
Wisman is a great professor, he has great examples for every topic, he is open to questions, and you really don't have to do the reading. The TA study sessions are a huge help too, I definitely recommend taking his class
Good class.More historical and philosophical than technical but technical economics are part of the class. I did well on the papers but was often frustrated by their 1400 word limit. Gives review sheets for midterms and finals and offers TA review sessions which you should go to simply for the bonus points. Wisman is a good lecturer.
dudes class is terrible. Most of my friends had good classes because they learned principles. All the guy taught was history. I want to lean ECON not the history of it. Much more learning then is needed, much more work then other classes
I had him for Macro and he basically talked about economic history and the financial crisis and I found it interesting. My roommate had a different prof. and she did more math problems and such. The reaction papers are not too bad, although there is a pretty low word limit. Has good reviews for midterm and final.
I was so scared that I would hate macro but I actually loved it because of Wisman. He is very intelligent and a great teacher. The TAs are also wonderful. Go to TA discussion sessions because they gain points for midterm&final and they are helpful!
Great professor. Excellent lectures and very animated. 4 Reactions papers per semester, very easy. Midterm and Final, a ltitle tougher but nothign unmanageable. History based economics- very good intro to the subject.
Professor Wisman is the greatest thing to happen to mankind. EVER. He is Sean Connery and I want to bear his children. He may be the greatest person to walk the planet. Pray that you can take his class.
"Four sticks of butter"
For a lecture class, Wisman keeps the students engaged. His grading system is a little unclear, and his TAs grading is a little subjective. The class has a fair amount of reading for a lower level class, but you don't need to do all of it.
Wisman,Clearly very Intelligent/ Keynesian. Interesting teaching style. However his study guide does not necessarily reflect the test. He adds a lot of history of economics rather than teach the ideas. I struggled with this class because his lectures don't always reflect the test, but rather the READINGS. His TA's also vary in teaching/ helpfulness
Brilliant professor! Easy to understand, gives great notes, and his lectures won't put you to sleep. He makes it pretty much impossible to get anything lower than a C in the class and if you try even a little you'll end up with a B. Reaction papers can be annoying but they are graded easily and actually help you to understand material better.
He's a really nice guy, and gives a very interesting lecture. Don't be fooled by his pleasant exterior, he's no pushover. He grades pretty stringently and the course covers a huge amount of material. He's willing to help you find ways to improve your grade. This class doesn't have a ton of real world practicality, but it's interesting nonetheless.
Jon D. Wisman is awesome! If you are able to take this class, do!
One of my favorite classes!! He is really nice and transforms Macroeconomics in a story so that it is easier to understand. The TA's have review sessions every week and you get points for attending them and they are added to midterm and final! Reccomend this class!
If you have to take macro, take it with Wisman. Yes, sometimes you'll be bored out of your mind, but it is macro! Prof really wants everyone to do well. TA sessions helpful and give Bonus which REALLY add up! Note to keep in mind: class focuses on econ history and not as much on mathematical. So if you dont like that go with Ivy hahahaha
Tough grader and isn't helpful. Gives a ton of information and teaches it very broadly and expects his TAs to clarify all of the confused students. Review sessions not worth it. His section has 200+ students and remember that no matter how many TAs there are in a class like that, you won't get the attention you would get in a small, personal class.
Riveting lecturer despite the 300-person lecture hall, tries hard to engage students and is extremely fair. Very approachable, and will offer plenty of grading incentives to perform well. Explains concepts well, sometimes too slowly, but you will get out of his this course what you are willing to put in.
Totally easy if you know anything about economics and/or actually go to class. I recommend going to TA sessions-- find a TA that's good, and it will help you as well as get you extra credit. Riveting lecturer considering the huge class size. Also, sounds like sean connery.
He is awful. Do not take him. He makes you go to these TA sessions and expects them to teach you. Granted the classes are humongous so its kind of hard to learn anyways, but he doesn't make it any better.
He's super funny with his connections however his class is completely useless. You learn everything in the TA sessions and even then most of them are so confusing that you don't learn anything anyway. The midterm is hard and the essays are not too bad as long as you know what the TAs are looking for. Don't take this class.
You might just as well skip all of his classes and attend TA sections instead.
never use textbook. Boring class ever
Quality teacher, but lecture is useless for the tests. They can be entertaining as the professor is very entertaining, but they are mostly history based, not technically based. TA sessions are highly recommended as extra credit is given.
Was not helpful, or clear on what he wanted. Focused his lectures on completely different topics than his exams!
Wisman isn't a great professor. Smart guy and all, but the lectures were absolutely pointless. He went off on too many tangents about topics that weren't even close to relevant. The TAs weren't even that helpful. He is completely biased towards Keynesian economics and doesn't try to hide it. He's a really great guy, but not worth taking his class.
Wisman is one of the smartest people I have ever met. He had some really interesting lectures and he is Extremely passionate about economics. I am interested in econ so it was great for me but I had alot of trouble in the class and most people did not do too well. I worked my ASS off in the class and got an A but it wasn't easy. Not easy
Professor Wisman is very passionate about economics but he's not the greatest lecturer. He goes off topic and barely talks about the textbook. The TAs are really helpful and if you go to their sessions, you get extra points on your midterm/final. Wisman is very generous with curves but all of his test questions are from the online homeworks.
He's an adorable old man with a passion more for economic theorists and history than the textbook content. He isn't available but his TAs are and you have to be choosy to get a good TA session. His lectures are boring but go! About half of the exams consisted of theory and history from his lectures.
Great professor, I can see how people think he is difficult but if you go to every TA session, study the book, notes and do the homeworks, you will definitely get an A. I had no trouble with the class. He's also one of the best, most interesting professors i've had
Professor Wisman as always lectured with great knowledge and expertise. He was more of a raconteur than any other AU professor I came across. This skilled storytelling allowed him to relate a vivid and enthralling story of our economic history beginning six million years ago. As a side note, the TA sessions were very useful for exam preparation.
I found Wisman to be an engaging lecturer who deeply values the pursuit of knowledge and the consideration of ideas. He's sincerely interested in providing a quality educational experience for his students, and despite receiving a B+ I would take his class again in a heart beat.
The class is very boring and you can fail if you are not careful with essays. No kidding. He can close his door into your face!!
Prof Wisman is a very charismatic guy and I like him as a person, but I will never take another one of his lectures again. They were irrelevant to the subject matter, I had to teach myself essentially. His TAs do all of the real teaching. Showing up to the class doesn't matter bc no attendance / relevance. Easy work load, final killed my grade.
(Grandpa) Wisman is a really interesting gentleman. Lectures can drag on, but they are more about economic concepts and stories rather than the history of economics. The book is good for specifics, but you wouldn't really need it if you've ever taken a basic AP econ course. Homework is online weekly and two straightforward papers are done.
Wisman means well and wants you to succeed. The work load is easy (2 easy papers and homework assignments that have answers online), and you barely have to show up for class, as his lectures are pretty much irrelevant. However, the midterm and final were my downfall because I essentially had to teach myself all of the material.
He is kind of a lunatic, but he's a nice guy and a relatively easy grader. Talks about drugs a lot.
Very dramatic lectures; in a good way. Really funny, he does tend to talk about drugs more than other professors but not to the point that it isn't funny. You will probably need to actually do the textbook readings to get above a B.
I thought Professor Wisman taught a great class. It was almost like a hybrid between an econ class and a history class. He was a brilliant orator as well, and gave entertaining (if not always exciting) lectures. Especially interesting to juxtapose his macroeconomics class with Danliel Lin's microeconomics class.
You can tell he's passionate about econ from the beginning. However, he's a very boring lecturer and sometimes talks about econ HISTORY rather than showing us how to do econ problems he has on his tests. Go to the TA sessions each week or else you'll be so confused.
Total freaking man.
You should not take Macroeconomics with anyone but Jon Wisman. He is a star, a legend. His lectures are actually semi-interesting and useful. My roommates were in a different lecture, and while they were learning about unnecessary functions and equations, we were learning about the past has shaped why our economy is what it is today. I 3 Jon
Sometimes rambles on about arbitrary topics and drones on, but occasionaly will catch an interesting topic he talks about. Lots of HW to do you pass but he does not really talk about anything seemingly relevant to the online homeworks
Professor Wisman made Macro interesting with the examples he used. Lectures don't always relate to the reading, so it is important to read the book as well for the tests. However, the lectures are good and he kept my attention every class.
Wisman loves economics so much and it really shows! Going to class isn't necessary in order to do well on exams. Grade is based off two easy papers, two exams, and 10 homework assignments. Most of the exam is taken word for word from the homework so you don't need to do readings or go to class to pass as long as you review the assignments.
Wisman is honestly amazing, he is very passionate about economics and brings a ton of knowledge to the class. He is quite the character. He is a lecturer, no powerpoints or concise notes and has a particular interest in economic history so he is not everyones cup of tea. But, just a very friendly guy, go to the ta sessions they help alot in learnig
Absolutely despise this guy. His class is way too hard for an intro level Econ class. The class average for the midterm was extremely low. He just lectures about his own political views and then loads the tests with questions from the readings and the online homework. Highly recommend looking for a different econ professor
Wisman really cares about his students and econ. His lectures are super passionate and exciting to listen too. Unlike other econ lectures he grades you on projects and hw so its not just the final. He literally gives you 3 tries for each piece of hw. Everyone did badly on the multiple choice midterm so he gave us all bonus points.
He is nice but his lectures are long and repetitive. He tries to help you if you reach out to him either office hours or email. The TA sessions are very helpful especially with the paper and exams.
He is an amazing professor but just not my style. We have homework once a week that you can check as you do it, so an easy A. You have two papers that you have to do over the history of economics and two exams that total 65% of your final grade. He kind of goes off-topic so TA sessions are a must, plus if you go, you get extra credit for the exams.
He's a very kind and enthusiastic teacher, and he really wants to help you succeed, but also he gets super off-topic during the lectures. If econ is something you have prior knowledge/skill in I would highly recommend since the lectures aren't super boring and it's not the end of the world if you don't show up, but not for those who are bad at econ
Rather than explaining concepts Wisman talks about economic history from the dawn of man every class and does not explain how to answer questions on his tests that take up 65% of your grade. He talks about irrelevant topics that do not contribute to your learning. When he does speak about economics his concepts go far further than what ECON 100 is.
Macroeconomics is supposed to be an introductory class introducing you to the field of economics. Wisman seems to believe it is a graduate-level course where he can rant about god knows what and expect everyone to know as much as he does. He randomly selects people in the class to embarass them AND THE FINAL IS 65% OF THE GRADE.
Professor Wisman is the worst professor I've ever had. I have had a 3.78 GPA my entire time in college (I'm a junior) and I just failed his class despite doing every assignment and trying extremely hard. The worst part is, this is supposed to be the easiest econ class at AU. He teaches it as if he's instructing a graduate level class. DO NOT TAKE.
Wisman is not as bad as all these people say he is. Although he often goes off-topic, the lectures are interesting and the exams are relatively simple as the questions are taken STRAIGHT from the homework. Although he isn't amazing if you show up to class and do the work you can get a B+ easily. Also curves the exams!!
Here's the most honest rating of Wisman- ECON100 is way too hard and he treats it like a grad course, but your grade will be fine. He gets that he's teaching it pretty hard and thus curves very high. How high? My grade on the final exam went from a 58 to a 79. Papers are graded easily and you get points for attending discussion sessions.
Wisman is a legend! Going to the TA sessions is a must, but you get extra credit for going. There is a massive curve on both the midterm and final, and the midterm doesn't count for your final grade if you get a higher score on the final than the midterm. There also are 2 short and easy papers on Econ history/philosophers. Interesting lectures!
Avoid Prof. Wisman if you can. His class is way too hard for an intro level course and his lectures are just him rambling about things that honestly has nothing to do with what you actually need to learn. Go to the TA sessions because you get extra credit and they actually teach you things.
Need to go to TA sessions to do well on tests (extra credit). That being said, everything is graded by TAs. Also, most things needed to be explained by TAs in order to actually grasp the subject so he didn't do much. 10 homework assignments, 2 annoying papers, and a final and midterm. He seems like a cool dude but I only met him twice.
He knows what he is talking about but the class was so boring. Zero engagement with the class, and he is very monotone. Although the TA's host discussion sessions for extra credit and the homework assignments (worth a lot) are pretty straightforward. Only two major papers. Not that much work just a lot of content.
is a standard large lecture with little interaction with students that can be expected in a class of its size. However, his lectures are him rambling about random stuff that is not tested or relevant to what is being tested. he tries to make an intro class more interesting but ends up in a lack luster teaching of we need to know to continue on.
DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY WITH THIS CLASS. His lectures are dramatic and pointless barely goes into detail of any of the work in the homework, essays, midterm, and finals. If you want to learn anything you have to go to the voluntary TA review sessions. He didnt curve the midterm even tho the average was 70. can make the final be worth 65%
Originally gave a two star, I want to revise to 0 after the final. In the lessons leading up the midterm and final he gave virtually zero relevant lessons. The grading for the class is unclear and he is useless as a professor.
AVOID THIS TEACHER NO MATTER WHAT. He was the absolute worst and screwed me over at the end, even though I had a good grade throughout the entire semester. His teaching was unclear and random and he had so many TAs, it was so unorganized and confusing. DO NOT listen to any of the positive ratings!! Save yourself from this awful teacher. Very upset.
There are previous reviews on here from December 2019 that are very accurate! Don't bother with this professor at all! Take another professor or just wait to take this course another semester, ANYTHING, to avoid Wisman. He is awful and teaches this course like a graduate when it's simply just a 100 course most take as a requirement. Bad professor.
Worst experience with macro. Hoping micro is way better but this professor made it awful. Had me thinking I was doing well just to find out the grades on Canvas aren't accurate. It's a huge blow to the face, not to mention his teaching methods are sub-par at best. Please do not take this class with him, you learn nothing and feel disappointed.
Loved Professor Wisman (and his TA William Mooney). Professor Wisman assigned a LOT of reading; I personally loved it and did as much reading as I could, but many of my friends did minimal reading and still earned a good grade. Professor Wisman speaks very grandly and I enjoyed his lectures, although because it was online, I often multitasked.
Was thinking about the class I took with him when I was a student 2 years ago and remembered how great and passionate he was. I see a lot of negative reviews for him as a micro/macro professor. I took him for history of economics and he was amazing. I learned so many different things and changed my outlook on a lot of different beliefs.
Prof Wisman was one of the most passionate lecturers I've seen and was a very easy person to listen to. The homeworks were easy, (and you get retakes) the lectures were organized and presented well, and his TAs were excellent (you can attend their discussion sessions for extra credit). A few papers that were rather straight forward and 2 exams.
I went to this man's class 3 times and changed my major. He teaches completely different content to what is tested on both exams and papers. Weekly homeworks (answers online) but the exams are worth A LOT
Prof. Wisman is a character. He really cares about the students and has engaging lectures-- they're actually quite funny. His grading on papers is a little unclear but if you are active in class you'll probably get a good grade. Liked him a lot!
The professor relies way too much on long lectures which I don't find to be good. Jumps from topic to topic, speaks as if we understand the subject already; random history lessons in our econ-classes. $ books we don't use; TA review sessions are a must; tests determine if you pass or fail; never goes into detail about homework, essays, or tests.
Wisman is such a cool dude. His macro course is entertaining, and easily one of my favorite classes. His lectures are great, and he gives out a ton of extra credit that can seriously boost your midterm/final score. Textbook is expensive, but the homework is not difficult. You can easily get an A by attending discussion sessions and simple review.
Jon D. Wisman is a treasure within the macroeconomics community. Classes are 100% lecture based, and the homework and exams only somewhat relate to his lectures. Attendance is far from mandatory, except when it comes to the two in-person exams. There are numerous study sessions each week, through which students can earn extra credit on the exams.
Wisman only gives lectures, which mostly relate to course content. All assignments are graded by TA's and they all grade differently. Attendance is mandatory and if you miss a class you are out of luck as no resources from class are posted online. Online homework weekly. Midterm and final graded heavily. Only TA's are accessible outside of class.
Professor Wisman is not a horrible professor, but he definitely doesn't interact with students. There are TA sessions you can attend and gain extra credit and extra help from, and they are also the ones that grade your papers. The exams are difficult and a bit unorganized. His lectures are informative, and you should take notes in class.
TAs are very helpful, attend their sessions for extra credit. Must keep up with textbook readings and lectures. Two essays, 10 HWs, midterm, and final. Tests are large percentage of your grade, but curved and extra credit included for discussion sessions.
Interesting man. He was not available for any sort of help, so you had to go to the TAs. Easy weekly homework, but the two essays were annoying as they were graded by the TAs and they grade differently. Midterm and Final were hard and unorganized. The lectures were long and boring, with random history lessons in them. Would not recommend it.
Professor Wisman was incredible. Macroeconomics is a required foundational class for many majors and he made it so much more enjoyable and interesting. Passionate lectures and hilarious examples! Offers a variety of weekly TA sessions for extra credit. Graded by 10 (easy) homework assignments, 2 papers, a midterm, and a final exam. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Very very very very strange guy with intense goblin energy, but he's a reasonably energetic and engaged lecturer who obviously knows a lot. Doesn't hurt that he's a cutie pie.
Lectures were long but fairly engaging. The homework was pretty easy and the essays weren't bad, especially if you got help from the TAs. Midterm and final were a bit rough but they were curved and you can attend weekly discussion sessions with the TAs for extra credit on them. I never did the textbook readings and I was fine.
The class is what you make of it. He is a great lecturer and a lot of fun. There is homework, but it is manageable. Readings are not necessary. Go to the TA's review sessions if you want a chance at doing well on exams. The two essays are extremely easy. Overall, a decent introductory course.
Prof Wisman cares a lot about his students and is very funny. However, a lot of his lectures are him going off on tangents. The tests are hard if you don't study well but he will most likely curve them. Good person, but not the best teacher.
Professor Wisman is a nice guy and attendance is not mandatory. Do your assignments and you'll be ok. He offers extra credit which helps. His lectures are kinda hard to follow and if you do not study for the tests, they are difficult. He does end up curving the test so this class is possible to pass, you just have to put in a little bit of work.
Wisman is funny and knowledgeable. 100% a weeder class- it's a big lecture so it feels easy but if you fall behind you will be lost. Content is not hard if you try- please just show up. Even though he goes over the same stuff multiple times, it will help you understand it better. GO TO DISCUSSION SECTIONS- TAs are great and you get extra credit.
Professor Wisman is very passionate about economics but his lectures are not very effective or relevant to what is on the exams. I really liked him as a person but not as a professor. Essays are easy to do well on. Exams are tough but he curves and gives extra credit. Attending discussion sessions is a must (I learned everything from TAs).
I'd love to take a higher level econ class with him but wasn't great for introductory Macro. His lectures were interesting but didn't apply to anything on the exams. Lots of reading and if you fall behind there's no coming back for the exam. Still, he is very nice and accessible outside of class.
Funny and impressive lecturer. You can tell he loves his work. Lots of non-mandatory readings, though the North book and his own book are pretty helpful. He and the TA grade the tests and essay harshly, I recommend going to office hours. One of the best history classes you'll take
It's hard to come across a college class where you're learning to really learn instead of learning in order to get a good grade in the class, and this was one of them. The class is lecture heavy but at the same time engaging and extremely interesting, I cannot recommend Professor Wisman enough, so if you're thinking of taking ECON318, take it!!
Gives lectures, but half the time he just rambles. Gives two in class exams and has two papers. Class isn't too too hard but requires a lot of work outside of class.
Okay so this class is a large lecture hall with several TA's. The material itself is difficult to understand, but Wisman is absolutely wonderful. He's goofy, and he comes up with creative metaphors to help us remember some topics. He tends to be very flexible with deadlines, and I enjoy his lectures.
The professor is caring and enthusiastic, but there's a disconnect between his lectures and the exams. The grades on Canvas don't reflect your actual grade due to a different grading system that's not clearly explained. Make sure to take advantage of extra credit to boost your grade, as it can help offset this discrepancy. Don't recommend him.
Be warned that your canvas grade is innacurate since he doesn't apply the weighting system to canvas. His lectures drone on and on and all the learning I did was from my TA. We had to retake the midterm due to a technical failure on his part. This man is not technologically savvy in the slightest. He even berated the IT guy who frequented the class
this professor is definitely one of the most eclectic once you will find at AU. but he was super nice and his lectures, although boring and lengthy, were kind of interesting if you like economics. his class is very easy to pass, and definitely go to the TA sessions for extra credit!!
One of the worst professors at AU economics department. He will ramble about everything except what's macroeconomics in the lectures. For one lecture, he spent 20 minutes talking about the Little Red Hen and we were not going to be tested on it. The homeworks have nothing to do with the lectures so it's put on you to teach yourself Macroeconomics.
The worst professor ever. I have horror stories from friends about how irrelevant his lectures were to the homeworks and tests. He'd write halfway through the board, get an aneurysm, and then say, I've made a mistake, scratch that. I'd rather have Joseph Robinette Biden as my econ professor because he shows more comparative vigor.
funny not as bad as they say
Professor Wisman is very eccentric, and his lectures are frequently rambling and irrelevant. BUT I did learn a lot in his class and he's generally a very understanding guy outside of class who knows a lot and can explain concepts well one-on-one. You don't have to go to lectures, but I would recommend if you can!
Certified yapper, but a very well-respected and funny guy. Make sure you keep up with the textbook readings in the syllabus or go to class or you will fall behind. Midterm is 20% of your grade, final is 40%, rest of your grade is made up of some easy homeworks and 2 short essays. Lots of discussion sessions offered with extra credit!
If you're not good at Econ at all take his class as a BIG lecture hall! You don't have to go to class or listen to him, when you do listen he's very confusing. HW is once a week (online), midterm and final are both online so do with that what you will. 2 essays based on assigned readings but you can do well without reading them.
Wisman is an amazing lecturer. He is graded badly on this because most people taking this class have to as Kogod students and don't care about economics, but the TA discussion sessions are insanely helpful, it is easy to succeed if you put a little effort in and his lectures are insanely interesting and engaging. READ THE FILES HE POSTS
Great professor if you go to class and discussion sessions. Otherwise, it is almost impossible to understand the content. Just go to the discussion sessions and you will not even need the textbook for the class
