Almost all work is done through ALEKS. There are group problems once a week. Watch the lectures he assigns if you aren't good with Math (especially Algebra 2, Geo, & basic Trig). His explanations usually make sense. Do the Practice test before every test! Don't be afraid to ask for help (even if you're good at math), he and his aides won't judge.
Beaumont was a great professor for this class! If I had any questions or concerns I could email him or go to class and he would have an answer. He did tend to make things a little over complicated sometimes for the actual math aspect so I recommend going to his IA's first:) But overall it was an easy class & actually enjoyable for it to be math ha
This professor made me so uncomfortable the entire semester. He would constantly mansplain the topics to me and reteach me the whole problem when I only asked a simple question. It is an easy course because it is through ALEKS and you have to go to class because there are group problem solving activities every week.
Nah man, just don't do it. You'l have to read the material yourself and teach it to yourself. Simply not worth the pain in the butt. Just choose another professor. Had a really bad time.
Lots and lots of webwork homework. Won't respond to queries. Is rude and condescending. Won't recommend taking this professor ever.
Never taking him ever EVER again. Makes easy concepts so difficult to understand and is so difficult to deal with. He is not understanding at all, and will make sure you have a hard time
Had a really bad time with this professor. Will never take him again.
Terrible. Just tons and tons of homework, doesnt relate any topics to anything, essentially just overexplains and overcomplicates topics that should be very simple. I have yet to learn anything in his lectures. I am not bad at math and neither are my friends, a lot took Calc 1 in highschool, and even they dont know wtf this guy is teaching.
Over complicates every concept, and makes it more confusing. Please do not take this guy he does not know how to teach, I spent so much time learning how to do problems by myself because his lectures don't make any sense at all.
Worst teaching style ever, refuses to actually teach the info. If you prefer a teacher do their job, don't take this class.
Not a good lecturer, so you're really better off watching the videos of other professors that he posts on Canvas. However, he is a decent and cool guy and wants to help you improve, and you can always email him for any questions you have. Tries to be funny to engage his students but again he's just not the best at teaching.
A lot of self studying, or praying that you've done topics before. Participation matters make sure you're in class. He's a cool person, just somewhat cringe at times. Teaching is just off and a little harder to grasp so make sure to self study.
Great teacher. I would take his class for MAT 266 if he had one. Remember to pay attention in the class though. The homework might be a bit difficult
Expects you to remember concepts from previous math years with no refresher. Teaching style is not great; shows easy examples, and assigns hard ones as participation hw. Participation heavy and lots of pop quizzes. Gives no study guide for exams unlike other MAT265 professors. Don't take Prof. Beaumont if others are available. Uses WebWork for hw.
Do not listen to the people who have given this professor good ratings. I guarantee that most students will agree that Beaumont is just not it. Class is not too difficult but he makes his lectures super unnecessarily complicated than it has to be. Claims he doesn't "scowl" when he clearly explains everything in a condescending manner.
Not a fan of the way this class is ran. In a typical lecture, Beaumont pretty much just gives a textbook definition of a concept and then has you do examples on your own which he doesn't "reveal" the answer to, and then collects. I learned way more from 15 minute youtube videos than I did in his lectures.
Choose anyone but beaumont. He explained to us he was not there to teach us but to refresh our memories. His explanations were unnecessarily complicated. He does not build up to doing complicated problems. He uses WebWork, which if you dont know by now, is a horrible platform. It tells you that the answer is wrong but not why.
He does not teach the class and all of it is done through a program called ALEKS that gives you online instructions for math. It was a terrible experience being a student in this class because it was essentially a self-teaching class with mandatory attendance. He is not very understanding even when you have to do a problem set without your group.
Professor Beaumont is by far the worst professor that I have encountered this semester. He is not approachable and almost impossible to reach, and when he gets back to you its a few weeks later. If you can at all avoid it, do not take him as a professor.
I feel bad giving a low rating because while he is very funny and sweet, his lectures and notes that he gives are absolutely terrible. They are over complicated and guided so unless you have an iPad or laptop you will be at a disadvantage. I had to teach myself everything through YouTube or the tutoring center. Exams are easy however. Don't recc.
Prof Beaumont is a great person and he does have a passion for mathematics, but it was difficult to apply his notes and teaching style to the homework and exams. If you do the homework and the standard ASU MAT 265 reviews before each exam, you will do probably do fine. Also go to his office hours, he is willing to help his students.
I would rate this class a zero if I could. The course was online on the website ALEKS, yet attendance was still mandatory. He only read announcements and walked around the class catching people on their phones. This was self paced so everyone was at a different spot, yet you have to be done with all topics at the same time. There's no extra credit.
I've to admit I was transferred into his class but I've enjoyed his advice on 'How to College' in his lectures. Highly recommend using a digital annotating tool in- class so you annotate his lovely notes typed in latex. Like all university math courses, you've to beat the professor to the line so be prepared to learn the content before lecture day.
Jonah is very funny and gives clear and good lectures. All the homework is online and is easy to get an 100% on. There are only three exams total for the course and none of them are cumulative. He tends to give pop quizzes every lecture to ensure attendance, but some are not even math-related and the math-related ones are not too difficult.
Professor Beaumont is very passionate about his subject. But in his very short lectures, I'm talking the longest one was 19 minutes and change, he goes over one example problem. He does post others but they are very simple. The homework has very hard, complicated problems which the quizzes, super quizzes and exams also reflect. Very fast paced.
terrible professor. .Diffcult to learn from his classes, bascially self learning. Heavy tasks and tons of homework. Keep on changing class policies(Idk if professor can do that) If you are a student who is normal and doing a good job on your assignment, I do not suggest to go to his classes otherwise your grade should be affected.
(Brief calc)I would definitely not take his class again. He spends the whole class (literally the entire class time) teaching maybe 1-2 problems from the homework and the rest you teach yourself. The exams are basically your grade because the homework is only worth 10%. He rarely puts in grades. You basically have to teach yourself in this class.
Mr beaumont think he is teaching, but the fact it he doesn't. He using the card swipe machine to record every time your are in and out. He gives you tons of the homework to make your hard to finish. He refuse to comunicate and this guy is totally the worst professor I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. This sugguestion will safe your life.
He is the worst professor I've had. I had him for MAT210 and I would not recommend to anyone. He takes weeks to grade and is not helpful. He teaches the wrong material and corrects himself days later. He also has pop quizzes in groups. Homework is online and theres a few tries for each question. He also gives extra credit for doing homework early.
Don't take this professor you're better off with anyone else. Only 40 of his students have taken his final by Friday night, due to his incompetence listing the exam due Friday yet locks the exam behind topics listed due for Sunday
Professor is terrible at teaching, had him for MAT 210. He is incapable of engaging students. Takes forever to grade, communication is nonexistent when you are trying to reach out to him. Do NOT take.
*MAT210* Doesn't answer emails or canvas messages, doesn't show up to his office hours on time or at all, overcomplicates homework and lectures. If you have the option to choose someone else please do so. I learned more watching YouTube videos than at his lectures.
Lectures were often cut short with the excuse being that he has exams to grade but still takes two weeks to put them in. The easiest hw problems were went over in class, leaving you to struggle with the harder ones by yourself. On the first day of class he said that he did not go to school to teach and you can tell. Use YouTube. Don't take his sec.
He made this course much harder than it had to be with poor instructions and communication. He told us multiple wrong homework/ exam/ final dates that left everyone extremely confused. He lectures all class and takes random attendance with quizzes. Overall he makes it very hard to succeed in the class. CHOOSE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!!
I asked the professor for additional resources to help me learn the content since his lectures are awful. I was met with a shrug and a "not my problem" facial expression. Dropped the class immediately. Teaches? No, but he can definitely read off words from the board without providing information to help clarify the material.
I do not even know where to start. The exams were nothing like the homework. The class was fast paced and he only went over a couple of examples. He also gives out pop quizzes randomly even if he just "taught" the lesson for the day. Would highly recommend taking another professor.
Spent half of the second semester with an E soley because he didn't grade everything in the grade book. Would change his mind about taking some pop quizzes so we didn't taking them he would just keep the score as a zero when it shouldn't even count for a grade. Please whatever you do don't take this teacher for math, you're better of with Youtube
He does not grade assignments. I have a 0/30 on a quiz that we never took. He just yaps in class the whole time and never really helps if you have any questions. No necessary attendance, but he always has pop quizzes. Even when you take the pop quiz, some questions are open ended, and he never grades the questions, so your stuck with a 5/15 total.
Disorganized and extremely inconsistent
I absolutely hated the way this professor taught. It was so disengaging. Pop quizzes were usually group work, which was probably the only benefit of this class. The homework was much harder than the tests, which also make no sense.
Jonah doesn't enter grades in canvas. He literally MIS-GRADES tests, everybody I know has had flaws on nearly every exam, and people have gotten answers correct that they should not have, and answers wrong that they should not have. DO NOT TAKE THIS DUDES CLASS
If I could give 0 stars I would, genuinely not trying to be rude he is worse than unhelpful. A tragic experience having him as my math professor.
Awful. Just awful.
This professor was never organized nor did he ever make us feel that we could get help outside of class. I tried to learn 90% of the material by myself because his work would be confusing to understand. It would feel like he would get lost in his own work and it would feel as though we spent half of the entire class on one problem.
He should really consider a different profession. Seriously bad.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. This professor is genuinely one of the worst I have ever had. Any other professor from calc 2 will be better than him. He ruined my GPA because he would take 3 months to grade one test. He takes way too long to grade the quizzes even though he told us he would give us time to contests our grades and he didnt. He doesnt curve.
He is a nice guy but is a terrible professor, had to teach myself everything because his lectures were awful and overcomplicated. He takes ages to grade anything in fact even though our final was more than a week ago he's still grading homework and quizzes from the beginning of the semester of yeah he also has a tons of quizzes and does not curve
Lectures are very confusing, boring, and hard to understand. He takes attendance by doing pop quizzes randomly throughout the year. On my last exam he graded my exam against the wrong version answer key which resulted in my test grade being put down as a 50 instead of a 95 (It was fixed after questioning it in office hours).
Worst math instructor ever. Uses another professors lectures and everything is auto graded via MML and still claims to to be "too busy" to answer emails then makes condescending posts about how us the students are the problem. Jonah if you read this please find a new job teaching does not suit you.
At least for this class, the professors have to use a set of videos prerecorded by a different person (I know this from withdrawing/retaking this class a different semester/professor). I believe Beaumont attempted to make this better by offering sample questions/solutions and creating a discussion board to post question where he answers in detail.
He explains how he doesn't take attendance in his class, however he gives MANY pop quizzes where we only have 10 minutes to complete and he will leave class so you cannot ask him questions. Worst teacher ever, do not take any course he teaches. He is very rude when you ask him questions and belittles his students. He needs to find a new job.
he is extremely nice and willing to help the students. i'm taking MAT 142 with him and it's going well.
It appears that Jonah needs to learn how to use the online software to make the class run smoothly. Completely unreachable inside and outside of class and is quick to blame students for disruptions when there is evidence that points to him being the responsible party. If you can, please avoid and take your math class with someone else.
The course itself is incredibly easy, and all work is done through ALEKS. He does not actually teach anything; expect to learn everything on your own. He also is not helpful if you have questions, I honestly could have taught the course better myself. The TAs do most of the work and are incredibly helpful! They seem to know more than the professor.
MAT117 is all individual work. Like the whole thing. However, Prof. Beaumont took attendance most days and had a pretty lenient policy that if you finished the module, you didn't have to come to class. I had friends taking the class with other professors, and you could be able to find one that curves the exams; Prof. Beaumont did not.
bro ive had this class twice and im alr over it this man is a joke.. so inspirational that he inspired me to drop the class
Listen carefully, I care about you and your mental health so PLEASE do not take this class with him. Like I would not put my worst enemy in his class. He does pop quizzes almost every class and he does not actually elaborate on what hes teaching. all of his notes are prewritten so he doesn't actually teach. I dropped the class before his first exam
He is an awful professor. If you want to keep your sanity and a high gpa do not take his class. He doesn't actually teach. Choose anyone else because you will regret everything if you take his class. I dropped his class before the first exam cause I cant recall anything from the past 4 weeks. do not do this to yourself.
I wouldn't put my worst enemy in his class. He's so incredibly terrible with communication. He tells you exams are on different dates than listen on the syllabus making it hard as someone registered with SAILS. He also takes "attendance" with pop quizzes with some of the questions being material we haven't even learned yet.
Worst math teacher I've ever had
If you want to actually learn, DO NOT take this professor. He is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. He makes everything way more confusing than it needs to be, to the point where I've basically had to teach myself the entire course. Save yourself the frustration and take another professor if you can.
I'm literally sitting in his class right now so pissed off because he is the worst teacher I've ever had
Professor Beaumont is a knowledgeable, and caring professor. He stops for questions and addresses comprehension checks of material that he writes on the board. Students here are sour because they don't have initiative to participate nor will ever find the best qualities in him. Interact with him inside class and out of class and you will pass.
This dude was lowkey chill. His class was not that bad; the bad reviews are just from people who didn't want to participate in class or do the work. Me and my boys sat front row and participated in class daily, and we all passed and liked the class. The only issue with him is that it is difficult to access him outside of class. SHOUT OUT GOATMONT
i beg you not to ever take this guy. he is the worst teacher ever. i dont know why arizona state even allows someone like him to teach students. i started going to a different lecture just to learn, still had to go to his class because there is a quiz every class with few exceptions. i hate him
DO NOT TAKE HIM! if you want to keep your mental health stable, don't ever take him. He is a bad professor, gives lectures the way HE understands and doesn't even let you write when he already changed the screen. Terribly handwriting, don't take him!
He proudly wrote this: "I recently overheard one of your peers boldly claiming that I always make quizzes on Thursday. Surely, I wouldn't give a Tuesday quiz, especially the day before an exam, right? Right...? Well, as a friend of mine once put it: "Jonah is so salty and petty he doesn't salt and pepper his steak, he likes to salt and petty it."
He was not the worst teacher I have ever had but definitely not the best. A lot of his practice test had no correlation to the actual test which was super frustrating. Never learned much in lecture and mostly had to watch videos, or use ChatGPT to help me explain it, or others who were taking the class with me. Cool guy, not the best professor.
He gives pop quizzes pretty much every day to mark attendance, recently he did this instead of preparing us for the test next class. I learned a lot of the concepts last year in AP stats, but with his teaching, I understand absolutely nothing. I tune him out in class and watch youtube videos because you essentially have to teach yourself everything
Would NOT recommend this teacher. I already knew most of the material so I would do the homework in class, and when I would watch him lecture... never been more confused. He gives quizzes on the stuff learned THAT DAY, and he's not even funny, it's not worth it. He said he was antisocial and hates public speaking on the first day :|
i cannot explain how bad of a professor this man is. he is SO unprofessional. genuinely just a MEAN guy. does not know how to teach. just makes unfunny jokes. rude to students. i have NEVER met such a mean, untalented teacher. please save yourself. i am calm in this bc i have no anger/disappointment left in me. 2/6 of our table dropped.its so bad.
Embarrassment to ASU. Handwriting is completely illegible. Says he "gets lazy" and doesn't write out many things on notes, so reviewing is almost impossible. On day one, he said he hates talking to people. So rude/unprofessional. Gives pop quizzes almost every day (which is fine) except that he gives 0% on each one despite getting all answers right
One of the worst professors I have ever had, please do not take him. Not understanding at all, he acknowledges himself as being petty towards students, including it in his quizzes. Annoyed when you have any sort of inconvenience that shouldn't even affect him. He should not be a professor or even involved in any academic setting
The class was technically runned by the TA's since the professor only gave the announcement before the class. Everything was in ALEKS which then what was the point of going to class. Attendance was mandatory which sucked. I like math myself so it wasn't a difficult course at all. Although if you need help, it's provided by the TA's.
Genuinely don't know why this professor is rated so low. He gives clear instruction and delves into the conceptual side of problems sometimes to help you understand more. Can clearly tell he genuinely enjoys math and is a pretty lenient grader as well. Only gripe is he has pretty bad handwriting but its acceptable because he explains concepts well
Confused with the ratings on this professor. He is very nice and explains everything slowly and in detail. Would take again
I have no idea how he has anything less than a 3. He comes prepared every class with notes and practice problems. He explains things very well. On exams he is incredibly lenient and gives tons of partial credit for the frqs if you show ALL your work. Overall amazing professor and would take again!
Don't know how this class is rated so low, if you went to class and paid attention and did the homework it is not a bad class. If you don't go it would be difficult but just go to class. He asked many questions and if someone asked about something he would go in depth and help. Lots of "pop" quizzes but they were basically free credit. great class
Prof. Beaumont proved every class how much he dislikes teaching. He is extremely condescending and seems to enjoy making class work harder for students and stressing us out with unnecessary pop quizzes, over lessons that are not due for weeks. There are only 3 tests with minimal to no review time given. Be prepared to wish you dropped every lecture
W teacher. Very understanding when grading exams and if you go to lecture and learn the material, you should not have a problem.
This professor is hands down the worst professor I have ever had through 5 years of college. He doesn't care about his students and if anything is up to the professors discretion he makes sure its the hardest or most strict standard it can be to ensure he does less work. He is extremely lazy and I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
Impossible to follow along online, as he does not post anything.
Avoid this instructor if possible.
Honestly a harder class but he goes over the material very well and he works with students where he can. I understand why his rate my professor isn't a 5 but it's just because of the harder courses he has to teach. If you pay attention to him and do your homework early (get extra credit) then the class is easy honestly.
He does not check his emails at all, is very rude to students when they go up to him after class, is wayyy too fast with notes and does not do a good job overall. He does not care about his students.
Taken Fall A '25 through ASU Online--The lectures were straight-forward and usually 10-30 min long. Usually accompanied by extra example videos and practice questions. He uses Pearson for graded assignments, quizzes, and exams. Pearson allows you to retry assignment questions for max points. He doesn't curve or drop lowest exam.
Save yourself the trouble and don't take a class taught by this professor. He does not respond to emails in a timely manner, barely helps when he does respond and is overall rude in responses. Everything is autograded and he claims he has no time to do anything and complains when he has to respond to students.
Just don't do it to yourself. Maybe calc 1 or the business calcs he seems decent? Trust me that does not transfer over to MAT266. There's a reason he's assigned a classroom with only 30 seats.
Honestly thought this guy was pretty great, idk what y'all are on. The notes go really fast in class but due to a change in curriculum he's doing the best that he can to still go in depth and allow people to ask questions. He's pretty personable too, easy to talk to and will crack jokes in class. Really not sure why people dislike him so much.
He's passionate about math , but he's just not good teacher , he cant explain topics well and just skips through things and expects everyone to understand . I never learnt anything in his lectures only went because of pop quizzes and mandatory attendance , had to go back home and teach myself every topic.
Class is fast paced but easy to follow. Beaumont is very passionate about math and I found his class enjoyable.
Jonah was nice through the semester, but online 242 is odd, the lessons and learning part sucks (Bad slides, use YT), but the Edfinity HW and Exams are really nice. The HW is not lengthy and the Exams allow two attempts per questions, with the content coming from the study guide and HW's. Study using the HW and use your exam attempts sparingly!
Professor Beaumont was actually pretty good. He was really caring and he understood the material really well and taught really clearly. The course itself was kinda screwy, since they had just revamped it when I did it so it was a really quick pace, but thats not his fault. Overall, really good professor.
It's definitely doable. He's a nice guy and has a ton of office hours, and responds to emails pretty quickly. As other reviews mentioned, the course had just been revamped, so it was difficult to follow at first, but easy to get the hang of (which, of course, was not his fault). He did the best a professor could for the unfair course load.
