Brennan is a truly wonderful teacher, all around grea guy. He is very knowledgable and insightful, yet he is definatly not one of the easier english courses at mission. You will learn alot from this professor, i advise you take his courses, b ready 2 work
So freaking strict on grammar errors. He made it a big deal, you will fail his classes if you keep on making grammar errors on your compositions.
Dr. Brennan is a very inspiring professor. His goal is to teach and help students stay focus on education. He will pass you if you work hard in his class and fail you if you don't. Excellent instructor!
He's a really good teacher. Ofcourse you're going to do work...its preparing you for a university. There's a lot of work and reading but it is almost equivalent to a CSU English course.
his class is interesting, and you will learn more about life than English. lots of homework, no comments on his test
Amazing instuctor. I learned more about life than English i thought, but he helped me tremendously. It is because of his strictness that i am getting an "a" in English 1B. Definitely recommended.
He's a great instructor. He knows his stuff and he is very helpful throughout the semester. Great attitude even after you finished his course. You'll enjoy his class....take him !!!
i dont think he is hard tho. if you dont make severe grammatical errors and give specific ideas in ur essay he would at least give u a B+.. his grading system is definitely benefiting students. make use of office hr, he loves sharing with students!
He's a great guy and a very good teacher. His lectures are inspiring, and he always makes full use of the class time. There's no shortage of homework, so don't fall behind. Just pay attention to your grammar and ask for help if you need it.
Dr. Brennan teached I how to rite goodly. I recommand him two every people.
He's not so bad and don't complain about work. If you're lazy, maybe you shouldn't be in school. It isn't high school you know.

Probably the best english teacher I've ever had. Interesting and inspiring. Definitely cares about his students. I recommend him to anyone that needs to gain a firm grasp on writing.
His class is very difficult and even though you work very hard, you won't get a good grade! BE AWARE of this when u take this class
I had him for English 1A. If you want an easy class, do not take this class. However, I was the type of student who needed firm structure to succeed. I did very well in his class. If you're the type who needs structure to succedd, take this class. If you want to chill, stay away. He'll make you work
he is nice, he tells ppl wut he is expecting, but the way he grade me is very tough!
He is the kind of professor that make you work ur butt off. I had him last semester and suppose to graduate with an AS degree and move on to U.C. Davis. I did good in his class and got good grade for all my essaies but just b-cuz i missed the final he totally fail me. I missed cuz my son was in the hospital but he wouldn't care.
Terrible teacher!!! I took his class on spring 2005 and very depressed with that. This teacher didn't useful at all. He didn't teach anything in class, just let us do some in-class writting and fix by ourselves. He didn't mention how to write better or how to improve language skill.
This teacher teach very poorly and you won't understand anything he say.
He's very strict. Only 4 errors max per page. He's gone for a year to get his doctorate so you can actually call him Dr. Brennan once he comes back. I liked the way he teached; I just didn't like that I got a B.

I believe I had Mr. Brennan my first semester. I had him once a week and I always did my essays the night before I turned them in. He sat down with me and said, "You're doing great. From here you can either coast into the end of the semester or push y
Dr. Brennan is one of the best teachers that you expect in a life time. I took English 1A, 1B, African American history, African American literature, and Native American Indian literature with him and believe me he knows the material inside and out. I learned a lot from his class and if you have any problem with the materials he is always happy to help you out.

HIS CLASS ROCKS!! Brennan is a powerful instructor and one that I will remember. His teaching is a great basis for the future classes! He can read students inside out through their writing and can tell each student what they need to work on. He also has a few hands on stuff when class starts to die off. He is a good instructor and you won't regret
very hard teacher!
He turned English class to a Psychology or some short of personality training class, which I don't mind. However, his instructions are very unclear and when he states that he will give a 0 for paper that is 5 errors/page - he means it!!! There are only 8/30 survive this class and I don't think anyone has an A in this class. I'm lucky to get a C.
Mr. Brennan is an amazing teaching. I leaned so much from him. I plan on taking one of his classes again.
Mr. Brennan is a good teacher. He doesn't give much homework that will kill you but comprehension essays. It's pretty easy if you do his homework, you'll pass the class with flying colors. I recommend once you do the assignments you go to the English Lab to get some corrections and that'll definitely help you.. He's a good teacher. I recommend him
He is really hard. Grades comprehensions strictly. If you want to pass, take english lab as well. BORING.
he's bad at teaching!
Mr. Brennan is awsome. he has very high expectations, but you will feel rewarded with more than a grade at the end of this class. If you are lazy, not the teacher for you, but if you really want more from a class than just the grade, he will make sure you get what you were looking for. One of the best teachers i've had.
If people leave negative comments then it's not the teacher but the student. I digress! Yes, you can get an A in his class but you must earn it. Lessons of life, earn things and u shall be rewarded. My writing improved and he introduced me to different writers and ideas. A hard working, intelligent man, and I recommed all his classes.
Dr. Brennan clearly cares that we succeed. In his class you show up, pay attention, and digest everything. You work hard and you'll be rewarded. It's critical thinking, DUH! Teachers like him will aide u for future classes such as at a University level. It helped me during my undergraduate program. Thanks for challenging me, Dr. Brennan.
This class has a lot of reading and writing, but that's what you get in an English class. True a lot of the reading isn't about English topics, but it is extremely helpful. Most of the people taking this class will not pass. Infact half drop the class in the middle.
It's sad that so many students chose to waste their opportunity in this class by not showing up or not doing any of the work. Dr. Brennan taught a brilliant class this semester, not only about the English language, but about American history as it relates to English literature. I learned a lot of valuable information that will serve me well.
This guy is tough, very tough, but I look at my writing from the start of the semester and now, and it is drasticly better. You want an easy A? look somewhere else, You want to learn something useful? Take Mr. Brennan.
Hard class but somewhat enjoyable if you really indulge yourself into the readings. The class was going smoothly until we had to read Love Medicine. Boring and time consuming (100+ pages/week). Mr.Brennan will improve your writing skills but the class requires lots of work. P.S. Love Medicine Sucks
BEST ENGLISH TEACHER IN MISSION!!! I learned a lot from his class. His class requires a lot of work, but its worth it!!!
Once you get up to these courses, he doesn't spend time to review grammer errors. The couse was easy if you're a good writer. 4 papers to write (4-5 pgs), and one page summary/response for each lecture day. Overall, a very educational class. I highly recommend it!
This class is extremely challenging, but also extremely rewarding. It is definitely not a class that you can coast through. If you are looking for an easy ride, I highly recommend that you look elsewhere. If you are looking to expand your knowledge, are willing to dive deep within yourself and are willing to take responsibility for what you recei
This class is extremely challenging, but also extremely rewarding. If you are looking for an easy ride, I highly recommend that you look elsewhere. If you are looking to expand your knowledge, are willing to dive deep within yourself and are willing to take responsibility for what you receive out of this class, then good luck and enjoy.
Awesomeeee professor!!!He is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is kind, understanding, and funny. Plus his class is interesting, the topics are actually worth writing about. The subject is you. So the knowledge is infinite.
Good teacher. Attendance is mandatory if you want a good grade. Difficult class, but you definitely learn from it. Reading responses due every class meeting. 6 essays total which includes a midterm and final essay.
If you're seripusly willing and wanting to grow as a writer, Mr. Brennan is for you.
Really great teacher! He is one of the best I have had. This is not a fly by class, but a class to really learn from. He not only teaches you how to write, but how to think critically and explain yourself in a clear manner. He cares about the students and is willing to help. I highly suggest this teacher.
His class isn't just one you can sit through, you have to do all (or most) of your work to pass. Know your comma splicing!! He tends to not answer directly and he handles serious issues while class is in session. Brilliant teacher, not one I would recommend though.
Horrible teacher. AVOID. Mean and won't help students. Won't answer questions and doesn't know what he's talking about. Too much work.
The best professor. If u really want to learn then this is the class for you.
I got an A in this class. It is a tough class.I`m being honest about this.teacher DOES NOT HELP STUDENTS AND HE DOES NOT FOLLOW THE RULES WHEN IT COMES TO ATTENDANCE. half of the students decided to drop the class but weird that some people stay until the end, when they have never shown up the WHOLE semester and he still passes them!So unfair
Does not answer emails. Kept emailing him for help and never responded and when he finally did his response was short and didn't offer any help. I think he hates teaching. Don't take him if you want to work on your writing.
Time-consuming class. You have to work hard on the compositions to get a good grade. Reading responses due at the beginning of every class. I didn't turn two in but I still got an A. A lot of reading. Make sure you check your grammar carefully and that you're using MLA format. Overall, I became a better writer from this class, so it was worth it.
Somehow this professor is teaching English when it seems he should be teaching either psych or a counseling class. With the exception of the weekly quizzes, all of his assignments are based on a non-textbook called On Course that assumes the reader is unmotivated and needs help. Many, many pointless assignments. Not much learning with too much work
not a nice teacher! half of the class dropped in between semester!
The class was all right. Reader response due every week; minimum 300 words; from an essay in the text. You make a sheet w/ your grammar error and rule to learn. 4 compositions; first few 3-4 pages, later ones 5-6. Research paper 5-6 written pages, few more w/ cover page and works cited. Overall, if you have good grammar w/ few errors, you'll pass.
He is pretty good teacher. Very strict and has high standard for his students. Likes to cut to the chase and focused on the assignments. 4 punctuatin and grammar error per page. you have to work hard in his class and show him that your trying.
Online English 1A: Don't take it unless you're highly motivated and have plenty of time; it's a very time-consuming class. He doesn't accept late work--not even by a few seconds. You're assigned "success team partners" that are supposed to review your compositions before submitting. He barely leaves any feedback/comments on your comps himself.
If you want to learn... Take him??he prepares you for success!
he is the best
Mr.Brennan engages everyone in the class . If you do not want to learn, do not take him. Great teacher!
I get B on ihs Class but he is amazing... he teaches from his heart..
He is very nice, and if you ask him for help or make an office appointment he will be happy to assist you. I did have a few issues, namely the assignments were heavily weighted towards self help books, I felt the actual composition instruction was an afterthought. Also, the "success teams" dwindled hardcore and fast and were not very useful.
I took both English 1A & 1B with Mr. Brennan. English 1A was definitely time consuming. There was a lot of writing and reading involved- I found that it was nearly impossible to take any other courses while taking that class. English 1B also involved reading, but it wasn't as bad as 1A, in my opinion. He is a generous grader for sure.
He is the toughest English Instructor in good way. He gives good feed back and he willing to help every student. His way to teach is super interesting, such as groups works, mini games, acts, etc. He is very tough in grading. It's true! He does his job and expect you to do right thing. He will write a lot to pass his class.

ABORT THIS CLASS! I REPEAT, ABORT THIS CLASS
Work was due every class session. We'd have interesting group discussions around psychological topics. Focus during class discussions and put in A LOT of effort into your work. The quality of your work is EXTREMELY important. Don't slack off or your grade will plummet. Ask for help when you have to. He can easily tell when you JUST did your work.
I'm taking his English 1B class now. He's the toughest grader that I've ever seen. That's why you have to work very hard for that. However, he never responded to my email right away. It took about more than 4-5 days or forever to receive his quick and short answer. I would rather work on my own than wait for his response.
Online class. Little feedback. Expect 9-15 hrs of hmk/week - no joke. Online quiz answers were often wrong. You're assigned a "success partner" to review your work, neither of mine did. Textbooks are self-help where you have to write about your "inner victim" and "personal affirmations." I like to write, but this class was horrible. Do not take!
Professor Brennan is great! I'd defiantly recommend him!
Tough class for me, but made it easier to bare with the feedback
Hard work but would take another class with him because I'm learning.
He was an ok teacher, gave interesting lectures. But the way he grades his papers were so tough. You have to make your paper amazing to get a good score. But he assigned many essays and writing assignments.
Professor Brennan is overqualified for his position. He was kind and helpful whenever I asked for his help. Use all your time in class and take all the knowledge from him because you're going to need it. Don't miss lectures and any assignments or you won't pass. His class is challenging and time-consuming. He doesn't answer emails quickly enough.
This class heavily focuses on self-improvement. You will read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and on On Course: Strategies for Sucess and In Life and all your writing will be based on those readings. Journal entries can get quite personal at times but they will help you find more about yourself.
His classes must be taken by those who want to learn. He'll give you stories and make you analyze them in ways that you never thought you could before. His lectures are life changing. Don't take his class or take up space if you want an easy "A." Usually, his classes end with less than half of the group of students who started the semester.
It was a huge challenge! Essays every week, followed by a weekly test. It was a challenge to get the grade I did get. He required alot of work. I wouldn't take the class again if it is not needed.
Prof. Brennan has high standards for English. It is difficult if you don't put the work and effort that he ask you to do. Expect hours of homework. Essays were graded hard but he is willing to help. I recommend for English majors or if you want to challenge yourself. Slackers, you've been warned.
I was a straight A student in English until I took his class. I would always try hard to get As on his essays, yet, he would always find ways to not give it. He does give feedback but the level of difficulty for this class is insane. You need to read every book and know grammar rules very well. Good luck if you take his class youre gonna need it.
Best college course I have every taken. Professor Brennan is determined to help us learn about ourselves and become better people. Not just better students, better, happier, well-adjusted people. I grew as a person from this course.
Great professor! He helped me so much and would give good feedbacks. Instead of just currecting, he would explain and also let us figure out things on our own, which helped me so much. I have improved so much by taking this class. I would highly recommend this class to everyone.
I do not recommend this class to anyone who wishes to learn English. Most of his teachings are about psychology rather than actual English. Also, it takes 1 month to receive feedback on your grades and if you message him, expect to receive a response by next week. Lastly, there are many assignments that will make Math look like a one unit class.
DIFFICULT to get an A. Only grades on grammar, spelling, and punctuation; if you want good scores, PROOFREAD! 100s on weekly quizzes is impossible, too many trick questions. Journal entries and reader responses are tedious, just look up videos summarizing the content and write on that. 4 compositions, 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 research paper. Good luck
Avoid this man like the plague. Mandatory zoom meeting where he requires you to do a bunch of stuff with the classmates is separate rooms. Impossible to ace an essay and was overall just a stressful class. You have been warned.
If you want an easy class, DONT take this teacher. He grades pretty harsh. No extra credit and a lot of reading. An unnecessary amount of work. I read summaries and still did well on the essays. His feedback is pointing out your mistakes and you have to learn how to fix it yourself. Even iff you want to improve, there are better teachers.
I'm going to be honest, this is a tough class. There is an immense amount of reading and a lot of writing, like more than you have ever seen. If you show that you care though, he will acknowledge. In my case, he rounded my 89 up to a 90. You can read summaries and still understand the material. You have to fix your own mistakes though.
My review will be similar to more recent ones and say if you are looking for an easy English course, I would recommend to stay away from this course. But I won't deny and say that I didn't learn from this course because I did. It was tough but I got through it. He has weekly assignments, 4 compositions, and 1 research paper during a semester. Eh
I think the class is pretty light workload wise if you were the type to stack 5-6 AP classes in high school otherwise you may find that he assigns a lot of homework. Lots of reading in this class but I found all books interesting. He explains concepts in books very well and helps a lot with compositions if you actually attend lectures.
Unengaged, doesn't provide feedback timely, lazy.
I took this class in spring 2018. If you are hoping for an easy English class then this is not the professor for you. We had one essay per week with peer grading due at the end of the week so the workload was tougher than most English classes. Tough grader as well as he would reject any paper with more than five spelling errors. Don't fall behind.
Tough English course, but engaging if you put in the effort. Weekly assignments and essays test your writing skills. Use unstuck AI and stay on top of readings to succeed.
