Awesome class. Britt is a great prof and his lectures are very clear. The class material was fascinating. I would definitely take another class with him.
Britt is a great prof who presents primary readings (papers from real science journals) clearly and consicely. Compared to other science courses I've taken, his are the most clear and easy to understand. No need to do the readings, just understand what is taught in lecture. Exam is really straight forward - just be sure to study the slides!
there are too many qualities to describe Dr. Britt - awesome, kind, helpful, - he has his students in mind with everything that he does - he even relistens to his lectures to make sure he was clear enough - would definitely take any class that he teacher
Britt is absolutely amazing. Relatively new prof, but one of the most clear, engaging ones I have had. This course was taught half by him half by Wayne Sossin and without Britt I would have no idea what was going on. really cares about your understanding, your interest, and you doing well. Hopefully he ends up teaching the whole course eventually
Very nice and helpful prof! First time teaching this course and open to feedback from students. Really wants us to succeed. Material was interesting and slides were clear. May be a bit dense for students who are not from pure science background or neuroscience. But if you put in the time to ask questions and understand, you'll do well.
Great new prof! Cares for his students and you can tell he puts a lot of effort into his lectures. The material itself is a bit dense and challenging, but his notes are packed with all the info you need (maybe even a little too much info, but I think he just wants to make sure everyone understands everything). Very fair tests and grading scheme!
Don't be fooled. The previous ratings were clearly written by the same person.
Dr. Britt is an excellent lecturer and incredibly dedicated to his teaching. He synthesizes material from the primary literature and presents it in clear, easy-to-understand slides. He's completely open to questions, and will tell you when he doesn't know the answer. Study his notes and pay attention to his lectures and you'll do fine.
so funny and cute just listen to the lectures and memorize the terms youll be fine
Really great teacher and I would take him again. The lectures are really long and it's super hard to sit there and be interested for 3 hours (he does realize that). I hate that we literally read the entire textbook. I wish his lecture was based less on the text, he honestly is so interesting when he speaks from his own mind.
Professor Britt is one of those profs you secretly hope to meet in your academic career. He is absolutely amazing. He'd never turn down a question you have, presents all the material in a clear way and makes his 3 hour long lectures actually worth attending. He's a wonderful professor, truly passionate about teaching and a wonderful human being.
A HUGE amount of material with a lot of details But he is a good prof
Great prof. Some of his exam questions had hilarious options which was something nice to destress you. Was his first time teaching this course but boy he was good at it, very approachable and helpful. Lectures are super clear and he covers most of the material during those and doesn't grade that much on the textbook. 11/10 would take again!
This prof is absolutely amazing! He loves his job, and takes care of answering every single question a person must have. He is fair when grading, and trying to make the students have the best grade 100% would take this class again (even with the 3h lecture)
The prof himself is a GREAT person however, the class itself was not my ideal cup of tea. I didn't like the material at all and honestly, there was too much to memorize. He does try to help all his students and his lectures are nicely presented but the class was 3 hours long so it was hard to stay focused.
even though class was at 5:30pm on a thursday & the lectures were recorded, i always went to class because this guy is the best! he discusses the topic in a way that's approachable and easy to understand without dumbing it down. also, he's adorable and hilarious. looking forward to PSYC 318 with him next semester.
This guy made the lectures super interesting, although the 3 hours were a bit long. Lectures are not needed for the exams, just reading the textbook thoroughly is more than enough to do well. There were 2 midterms and you could try both (but you only had to do one) and whichever one you did better on counted 30%. Would definitely take again.
Lecture notes are AMAZING-very clear and all you need to do well in the course. Prof Britt explains the topics in a way that anyone would easily understand. He's very sweet (thanks everyone for showing up) and I hope to take him again next semester.
Explains the material really well, but neuroscience is not yoit thing then I suggest bot taking the class as the material can be challenging
This prof is a gift, his lectures are crystal clear. He's cute too, so there's really no downside. Unfortunately, one third of this course was taught this semester by Wayne Sossin, whose lectures could not be more baffling and frustrating.
Really good at explaining, one of those teachers that actually cares, challenging class
Great professor, probably one of the best you could have in Psychology. He explains everything in a lot of detail and after a few lectures I was surprised how easily I could understand concepts that initially freaked me out. Very fair about tests and listening to students' issues with exam questions. Overall a fantastic prof.
His lectures are all over the place; explains super simple concepts in a incomprehensible way. Neither a smart person nor a good professor
Overall Britt is a solid professor. I wouldn't say he's an outstanding lecturer, but he does everything reasonably well. He delivers information clearly, makes the material accessible, grades fairly, shows up on time, knows his stuff etc. No complaints. He's not exactly an inspirational orator, but given the material he teaches, he's a great fit.
Really nice, Dr. Britt always thanks the class for showing up. While the content of the class is really hard and there's a lot of work involved to do well, it is basically just memorization, but his lectures are great! Always explains things in great detail and willing to answer any questions!
He is a nice man but his powerpoints are super disorganized. Tricky for people who rely on them. The textbook is useful in this case.
Really good prof and really interesting material. The textbook is really helpful in clearing up any confusion and the lecture slides are useful in seeing what topics to focus on. His lectures are very clear and he answers questions well. Tests and grading are very fair as long as you know the material.
Nice guy, makes the lectures interesting with some laughs. Tests were very hard; most questions focused on minor details from the lecture slides. Textbook is not mandatory but I used it to help me organize the notes and for definitions.
Great teacher, explains well, smart person. But the tests are extremely hard, I understand all the material but could not get a good grade on the exams because they are focused on very detailed stuff. Avoid this teacher if you are not really good at remembering every single detail, but if you are smart as he is, take him and you will do well.
Dr. Britt is a super sweet guy. He's always available when you need help, answers emails faster than anyone I've ever met, and genuinely cares about his students' opinions. The course itself is tough as it's essentially pure memorization, but Dr. Britt explains the material really well. He's good at making a bland intro course enjoyable!
Sometimes he can be a little disorganised in his slides, but checking the textbook can help. Only went to the first few lectures but found that he went too fast, so I decided to listen to them online and wrote down literally everything he said (I recommend doing this bc his exams specify on details rather than generalities).
Prof. Britt is very fair about his exams. Textbook use only as an extra resource. Exams are very detail focused, definitely one of those classes that you have to give more priority to. Goes very quickly through a looot of material and his voice can be monotonous but you will never find someone who knows more about this than him.
Prof Britt made PSYC211 my favorite class this semester. His slides are clear for the most part I would suggest just adding notes about the extra stuff he says in class. Textbook is optional, I managed to do fine without it. His tests are tricky because theyre so detail-specific, but you should be fine if you intensely memorize everything.
JONNYBRITT IS THE BEST PSYCHOLOGY PROF AT MCGILLL!!!!!
He speaks clearly and conveys the lecture material well. Definitely acquired new knowledge in the psychological and biological field through listening to his lectures; the exams are quite detailed and thus requires much effort for exam preparation.
The tests are absolutely brutal. A lot of the lecture notes are taken directly from the textbook so if you're looking for that to help solidify some of the more abstract concepts you're out of luck. He has a very dry lecture style. The material can be challenging but its difficulty is exacerbated by the confusing order of which he presents it.
Lectures and powerpoints are super clear. Everything said in class is on the exam so you really don't need to get the textbook. It's a heavy class but he's a very fair grader and drops questions which were tricky or missed by many
Exams are very detail-oriented, so I would recommend going over ALL of the material a couple of days before (watching the lecture recordings a second or third time really helps). Textbook wasn't necessary to do well in the class, but really helps solidify the material taught in lecture. Clear and well-structured lectures and reasonable/fair exams.
Helps students to do well and knows his stuff. However, lectures can be very boring, especially if you are not into the material.
Would not recommend at all. Lectures were unclear and disorganised. The amount of content he presented and expects to be memorised is honestly excessive and I would not take another course with him if my life depended on it. Is not enthusiastic during lectures and tends to sound monotonous which makes it difficult to engage while he speaks.
His class was very hard. If you're not someone who has good memorizing skills, it will be very hard to get good grades since he evaluates you only on very picky and specific details instead of your understanding of the material. I did everything to get an A but it was just impossible for me and some of my peers. Take it if you're as smart as him
What a cool guy. OG prof
He has very clear, and straight forward lectures, and the class itself covers some of the most interesting content I've learned. His tests are pretty detailed specific, but getting an A is not really hard if you study. I'd happily have him teach every psyc and neuroscience class because he's just that good at lecturing. Plus they'r recorded. 9/10.
I really love prof. Britt. He is super funny and he explains material extremely well. If it weren't for his EXTREMELY HARD exams, he would be the best prof at McGill. Honestly, i study for his exams 50 hours+ and i still have never gotten better than a B+. The questions are often super hard contextual questions that take 15 mins to think about
Really clear lecturer! 211 and 318 are the best classes I've taken at mcgill - hard but straight forward and super interesting to study for so putting in the work is really rewarding!
Prof Britt is a super nice guy, but this course is definitely tough. He goes super quickly during lectures, which can be hard to keep up with. Exams are very detail-oriented, so it's important that you know everything. Textbook isn't necessary - which is a relief - but useful if you want to brush up on the material. Be ready to work for your grade!
His lecture are extremely heavy, he explains at an incredibly fast rate and his accent and pronunciation doesn't make it easier to understand what he is saying. However, he seems to be really competent at what he is doing and knows a lot on the subject. Don't by the textbook, the exams are entirely based on what he says in his lectures.
His lectures are really really heavy, he covers sooo many things in just one lecture and speaks really fast with a very monotone voice which makes it hard to stay focused but that's maybe just me. nonetheless, his lectures are still interesting and he's pretty nice. there are 3 exams in total and if the final is your best grade, thats ur final grade
hes so nice and he really does well at relating materials to interesting topics, which helps make the material more memorable. He is very funny and I've seen people call him monotone but thats a bold faced lie. Hard to get a great grade in but not hard to pass.
Great professor, hes a nice guy who provides opportunity for questions and wants people to really understand the material. He covers a lot of content and it may not be easy to understand at first but he makes the material interesting and its not hard to get a good grade if you study hard enough because the exams are very fair. Takes a lot of work
Definitely a lot of material, but it's all on the slides (you don't need the textbook). Personally I found it interesting material, worked hard, and did well. Prof Britt goes fast, but he knows his stuff. Just don't go into the class assuming you're going to hate neuroscience! I liked it a lot more than I thought I would
Professor Britt is clearly extremely intelligence and has a lot of experience in the field. His class was a bit overwhelming at first because he goes pretty quickly, but you get used to it and I found the course to be super interesting! He's really sweet and the TAs in the class are pretty good.
Dr Britt is an amazing lecturer and very very knowledgeable in his field. He explains things very well, though his lectures move at a very fast pace. I don't blame him though, this intro class is packed with new material. The TA team is a real gem, they are very helpful, very good with responding to emails, and are very nice.
Dr. Britt is a real gem. I took him for intro to neuroscience and while the course was jam-packed with information, he was thorough in his explanations and was always available for extra help. He is extremely knowledgeable and I'm so grateful I got to be taught by him. The TA-led conferences were key and that team was also very prompt with emails.
Prof Britt is a good professor. His lectures could be interesting but the fact that he talks very fast and that the material is so dense and heavy is detrimental to their quality. His exam method is also not the best. You have 2 MTs 60 multiple choice Qs and they're NOT EASY. Final is 120 question on the ENTIRE COURSE. Cant memorize? Dont take it!!
A lot of material to cover, questions are detail-oriented but everything is very straight-forward - answers to questions are almost never ambiguous. Try to not fall behind, do as many practice questions as you can and you'll do well! the material is pretty interesting anyway
I dont know why I thought I was gonna hate neuroscience! This course is super interesting and I learned so much. Definitely takes a lot of work, he talks a little fast, but you get used to it. Doing practice questions helped me a lot consolidate the material learned in class.
He's a good professor. Those who have some biology background might find the course easy, but if you don't, then it might be a challenging course.
he's a good prof, coming in after first year science these midterms are easy as hell. the course is interesting but you will have to study - not a bird course but definitely still recommended. also super flexible grading scheme!
I took this class as a prerequisite for Psychology majors. I usually lean towards the arts subjects so I kind of dreaded taking this class but ended up loving it! Although, if you aren't great at sciences like me, def go to every lecture, don't depend on the NTCs only. Lots of information every class, but prof Britt is obviously very knowledgable.
Professor Britt obviously is very knowledgeable! He knows his field very well but the way he teaches makes is seem like he expects his FIRST YEAR students to know it all as well! Talks VERY fast and the first mid-term will probably not go well. It gets better after it. There is an unbelievable amount of studying to do, 850+ slides for the final!!
Great prof! He talks quite fast and there is a ton of info to memorize and understand, but the grading scheme and extra credit opportunities helped me a lot. I found the final to be much easier than the midterms.
Personally, I really enjoyed the class. However, you really have to spend a lot of time on it! It's best to just watch the recorded lectures at home and write down everything he says. The exams are pretty detail-oriented. Overall, a super interesting class but really important to be able to memorize/understand the material.
The class material is super interesting and Prof. Britt is very knowledgeable, but so much is covered in one lecture. Get ready to memorize and I would recommend re-listening to the lectures and making cue-cards. Studying for this class takes up a lot of time.
I was dreading this class because I had heard mostly bad things. It wasn't that bad, but the lectures can be boring. I found myself spacing out regularly, and my notes were filled with "watch the video" and "I don't want to be here". The grading is pretty fair, but 25% of the class failed both midterms. I think he wants his students to do well.
Professor Britt was not the best teacher at McGill for intro to neuroscience because the material was really heavy. His powerpoints were too crowded with info. Also, he is also monotone and you would think that someone who is monotone would speak slow but in fact he speaks really fast too so it is hard to keep up with him.
His lectures are packed with information and it's extremely hard to even have a second to comprehend what he's saying. He thinks we know what he's teaching. He's monotone and does not care. 25% of the class failed both midterms. Definitely would not take his course or classes again.
Professor Britt is a nice and respectable professor but this class is intense. You MUST go to class to pass, like seriously. You need to know and remember every word he says because it will be tested. The exam questions are hard, even if you think you understand the material, the questions are DIFFICULT. Try to avoid if possible. Be ready to WORK!!
I took this class on my first semester in mcgill and tried really hard to keep up with writing notes but its just impossible. COME to class and listen. Take notes on videos. Make q-cards. Its a lecture heavy and exams are detail oriented, but he makes the material so interesting.
Prof Britt is my favorite prof at McGill. Yes, his lectures are very dense but all of his exam materials are on the lectures, so no need to buy the textbook. Extremely flexible grading criteria and fair mc questions. Final easier than midterms imo. If you work for it, you can definitely get an A just make sure to memorize everything on his slides.
Prof Britt cares so much for his students. In light of the COVID19 pandemic, he implemented a flexible grading scheme that best serves each student and also gave us a second chance to improve our grade going into the final. His lectures can seem a little dry at times, but he's very clear. The exams are not easy, but you can do well if you study.
Very lecture heavy. One class covers a whole lot of content, so you'll suffer if you study for exams at the last minute rather than on a gradual, week by week basis. Attendance and the textbook are not really worth it, as you can just learn everything on his slides. Easy to get 4% extra credit, though, they can really help your grade.
Extremely tough grader, makes really hard tests, generally just likes excuses to make things more difficult for you. Best example I can give is once things switched to only classes, he made sure that we couldn't review answers on any of our tests because he said he didn't want us to get hints to answers based on other questions
would not take again, his teaching style is very hard to follow and the quizzes and tests had almost nothing to do with what he talked about
A lot of memorization, but great prof!
I absolutely love Jon. Granted I failed his first quiz because I was not prepared, it was my fault. Jon will never trick you. His lectures are heavy, yes, but they're very interesting. He drops your lowest grade too! This is a tough class, but if you understand everything well, then it's a breeze. If I can get an A-, you can too!
This class was nothing but stress for me. For a class that is 1h30 minutes, every single student in the class openly said that it took 4-5 hrs to go over ONE of his lectures because of the way he teaches the class is a nightmare. And the quiz, is really inconsistent from what he teaches. If you don't understand the material 100%, you won't do well.
Lectures were very interesting, Prof seems to care about his students. This class is very content heavy, you NEED to write most of what he says! The forward-only quizzes were really stressful and inconvenient. However, if you study hard and understand the material you can do well. I still recommend this class but be ready to study!
Very lecture heavy and can sometimes be pretty complicated. Many students disliked him but it was mostly because not everyone was willing to put in the effort. You really have to work for this class and attend every class to pass. It is not a class you take if you don't want to work, but all in all very interesting. The teacher and TA's are amazing
Professor Britt is my favorite prof. My advice: know everything he says and UNDERSTAND it. Use the textbook as a tool if you're confused about a topic but no need to memorize it. Dr Britt is extremely fair and drops the lowest exam. His exams are challenging but it's on you to study and know the material. The TA's are amazing. Highly recommend!!
The lecture is super heavy; lots of things needed to be memorized. And you can never skip any of the lectures since he would not only test things on the slides but also based on what he said. Exams are mitiple choices questions, but sometimes could be tricky and really need well comprehension of materials. Do not take the course if is not required.
Interesting class, but A LOT of content. The material is very dense and sometimes very difficult to absorb but it just requires lots of time and dedication. I did not buy the textbook, just made sure to be very attentive to all the lectures, which was fine. Your grade is made up entirely of multiple-choice exams. TAs are amazing are super helpful.
He's a great professor. Some people didn't like his class but they didn't work hard enough. If you put in the time you will get an A. The content isn't that difficult and is very interesting.
I took this class in Fall 2020 and Professor Britt is one of my favorite professors at McGill. The tests are super fair, and grading was flexible. They were often scaled, and as long as you thoroughly understand the lectures, they're pretty easy. I found his lectures to be super clear. The TAs were great and held weekly review conferences.
Although his classes may seem dry at times, he is really clear and direct. He relates class material to real life often, which was what made his lectures worthy for me. His testing is clever: He asks questions in a way that actually tests whether you understood the material, therefore it would be hard for people who don't attend the lectures.
I love Prof. Britt and his classes! He is a brilliant lecturer, he always tries to cover the material as deep as possible so that we could understand every single process going on. Many students have said he makes it too content-heavy, but that's the beauty and the whole point of it! His tests and exams are unique, beware and study hard.
Wonderful prof. Explains concepts very clearly and does not try to trick you. Exams are focused on application of material, not just regurgitation of facts. You can tell he is very passionate about the subject, and this makes class much more interesting.
the most boring prof, talks hella monotonous and very slowly for way too long. the quizzes were really hard too,but you can do well in this class if you have good notes on lectures and actually understand/enjoy the material. his lectures are packed with a LOT of content so it can take you many hours to write up notes on hour/ hour and half lectures
this class was my own personal hell. the way jonathan britt speaks is so monotone, and he crams so much information into each lecture that it's nearly impossible to follow unless you're really interested. also, it takes FOREVER to look over the lecture material after the fact. highly recommend you don't neuro take unless you have to lol
Jonathan Britt is very brilliant, but beware of the heavy content. The content is generally interesting, but it takes up a lot of study time. The first midterm was tough, but the second midterm and final are much better. His exams test if you understood the material, not just if you memorized it. Take advantage of the extra credit opportunities!
he crams so much content in one of his presentations, it takes hours to take notes after going to the lectures. the TA review sessions are more organised and better. only take this class if you need to. he is also very boring.
Britt's lectures are dense, but as long as you pay attention in class and rewatch what you need to, the content is accessible and interesting. He does really care that his students understand the material. Take advantage of extra credit opportunities, go to the TA-led review sessions, study as much as you can, and you'll be fine!
Lectures in this course were really heavy (2-4h/lecture: note taking+understanding) but neuroscience is always interesting. The teacher was very understanding: curved the class grades depending on test difficulty and was respectful/apologetic when he made mistakes. He talks quite slow but lectures go by faster in x2.5 so that's a plus! Good prof.
Professor Britt is awesome. Don't skip the lectures, and study far in advance, as there is tons of content. My advice is to study directly from the slides, I took all the content on the slides and put them into Quizlets to study, and then mind-mapped the anatomy using whiteboards. It's a hard class, but the material is worth it.
Dr. Britt is an amazing lecturer. He never fumbles for words because he has a clear mind and he knows exactly what he's talking about. I hope to take another course taught by him! There are extra credit opportunities and there were only 3 graded tests throughout the whole course, 2 midterms and 1 file. There are multiple grading schemes.
His course materials are really hard, but he explained all the concepts so well. His ppt are very organised which helps you study for the exams.
amazing course , great prof ,easy grade if you know neuroscience. TA conferences were amazing and made the exams predictable. Overall, enjoyed it a lot except the guest lectures on memory which was really unclear and boring.
Dr. Britt is an amazing lecturer (some say he is boring but I liked that he speaks slowly and takes the time the clearly explain everything) and a kind person. I also loved the class overall: the content is really interesting and the TAs are the best.
This course has been one of the most challenging I've ever taken, yet it stands out as one of the most enriching learning experiences. It demands a substantial amount of effort to achieve a good grade, as the content covered is incredibly relevant to current research. While undeniably tough, I believe this course is well worth the effort invested.
Britt is fantastic. He explains concepts very well and is also really funny. His lectures have a lot of content, but it is all very interesting.
He does teach a very difficult class that requires a lot of work and studying, BUT he takes material that is extremely difficult and makes it as simple and clear as possible. He speaks in the most eloquent and clear organized matter, and makes hard things easy to understand. He is an exceptional prof and I would recommend him to anyone.
Britt seems like he's really passionate about what he teaches BUT his class is extremely content-heavy and sometimes he doesn't even finish the slides in class because he runs out of time. The class is interesting and he's funny but it is a really heavy workload when it comes to studying for his exams and takes up most of your time.
The course was challenging but interesting! The professor was so kind!
Lovely prof, interesting lectures, super calm. quite funny when answering questions if you talk to him after class. flexible grading scheme. britt wants you to succeed!
Super nice guy, knowledgeable and cares about the subject. Very, very dense lectures - it's hard to get notes down before he's changed slides. Almost everything you need is on those slides, though; by November I wound up just copying from the slides into my notes, and half-listening to add/clarify anything based on what he was actually saying.
his lectures are a little word heavy, but his tests are straight-forward and fair! i kinda liked how the slides were so word-heavy because you don't have to look through the textbook or rewatch lectures to find bits of information. there's a lot to memorize and it covers a lot of topics, but it was really interesting!
hard material, good teaching methods. take time outside of class to make sure you understand/memorize material you will do well in class. a lot of information to memorize from slides, listen to recording slowly, textbook unnecessary. do not under estimate this class, it is hard. Make main focus/hardest class of semester.
Exam material matches lecture material - I was never caught off guard or surprised by any of the exams. Lecture slides are very detailed and useful for studying, grading is fair, lots of terminology to memorize but overall one of my favourite courses taken so far!
Prof. Britt's lectures are very content heavy and some more interesting than others; overall you learn a lot in this class but have to put in a lot of studying to get an A, especially if you're not a very science-y person.
Love Prof. Johnathan Britt's lecture! The contents are intriguing and the prof's really knowledgeable towards his subject.
K after taking other psych classes at mcgill, i realize how i took prof Britt for granted. He is straightforward and teaches what is necessary without being all over the place. Yes Psyc211 is difficult but this is by no means because of the prof, it just is. He makes it as clear as it can be so its up to you to just study the material a bunch.
Great teacher but tough class! I recommend taking it in same thing as an intro biology class, some material overlap.
Best psychology class I've taken so far! Professor Britt is very knowledgeable, straightforward, and clear with his explanations. I personally found his TA conferences extremely helpful as well. It is a hard class, and you'll definitely have to invest a lot of time studying, but it's super interesting and totally worth it.
Gives extremely clear and well thought out lectures. Made me fascinated in content I would have never expected to care about at all. Classes are content heavy by nature, but his exams really focus on things that were clearly explained and the main points. If you like PSYC211 i highly recommend this class even though it is different content wise.
I struggled a lot in this class but thats cz i forgot everything i learned in intro to neuroscience in cegep n didnt take behavioral neuroscience 1. the prof is very nice and accommodating tho. email him if ur struggling. Definitely attend the TA conferences!!!! they help a lot if you dont understand what the prof teaches in class.
I had him in the fall and loved his class! Sometimes he goes through topics very quickly, but textbook is optional for supplemental learning. GO to the TA conferences omg they were a lifesaver, and do the extra credit opportunities. Exams were fair. One of the most interesting courses I've taken thus far. You'll get out what you put in for sure.
Jonathan Britt has the worst oration skills, he mumbles his words. A professor must be knowledgeable, which he is but if they cannot communicate their knowledge effectively and clearly, then in my opinion they should not be teach. I never bother giving ratings to teachers, but Jonathan Britt's incompetence in verbal acuity left me no choice.
I'm taking psyc 211 right now, and the content is difficult for me. I do the lecture recordings on my own instead of going to class, and so far I am happy with my grades. The textbook is not mandatory but if you don't have the optional biology prerequisites, BUY IT. It is an overwhelming class for me but I enjoy his lectures and the material!
Love his dry humor, he's an amazing guy with a knack for psychology. Go to class, read the slides a lot. Everything you need to know is on the slides, don't let anybody tell you anything else. His soothing voice puts me in a dream state - like a good shower. It keeps you locked in. Treasure this man as long as he is alive.
Prof Jonathan has the most condescended lecture I have ever seen. He is horrible at lecturing and he doesn't help specify what topics to focus on. His exams are extremely difficult and questions are unclear. No matter how much you study be prepared to not do well. GOOD LUCK
he's not given enough credit. the class is hard but it's a prereq to MANY important neuro classes.I had an issue at the end of the year with student accessibility and he has been so helpful + quick to reply to email. If I went to him at the beginning for help he would have helped me. He wants students to succeed it's just hard when there's 800 of us
AS A PERSON he's wonderful and I truly mean that, HOWEVER, AS A PROF he is RUINING my love for psychology and taking my GPA with it. When I say the exam questions make NO sense all he gives you are lecture slides with PARAGRAPHS of info that you're supposed to not only memorize, but be able to apply because ALL the exam questions are application
Very good lecturer; his explanations are very clear and I think he makes the material engaging by applying it to more everyday examples. The class is interesting but HARD-lots of information to memorize. There was a supplemental textbook, but I didn't use it. Take the extra credit opportunity when you can.
He is literally such a sweetie pie. His class is hard but it's not his fault. He makes it as easy as it could be. I love this guy and his chipmunk features.
Boring, monotone lectures but very sweet prof who really cares about his students, LOTS of content and LOTS of studying. Definitely not an easy class but it is doable with some effort. The teacher is cute and wants you to succeed, no need to attend class all the content is recorded and on the slides.
He is such a cutie patootie. His chipmunk features drive me wild. Good teacher too I guess.
There is no way around it, neuro is not easy. You need to study. You need to prioritize this class. If you feel like you're not learning in class, stay home and watch the lectures at your own pace. STUDY THE SLIDES. Britt is great at giving you what you need to succeed. TAs were helpful. Midterm 2 was my worst grade, watch out for details.
He really wants you to succeed and gave 2 quizzes with some of the same questions on the midterm to help out. Everything is pretty straightforward and all on the slides. I was worried about the class but it ended up being easier than it was described. As long as you study, it will be fine.
He is knowledgeable, a D1 yapper with a monotone voice, so he will bore you out. I just made it BARELY to get an A. This class is no joke, even for someone with bio background. Slides have everything but memorize every detail. Only about 2 TAs are helpful in conferences, but still go regardless. Good luck, I'm never taking a neuro course again.
He is genuinely a great teacher, and I believe that the material itself is difficult to some extent, but he's not the reason for it. He tries his best to simplify it all + he is not unnecessarily complicated in his explanations. You also basically only have to study the slides for all the exams, and the tests are very fair.
I think he is a mostly good teacher, a little bit monotone but a good teacher. The material and slides are heavy but it is no surprise since it is neuroscience. I wont take another neuroscience class again but not because of the teacher
Prof Britt teaches in a clear linear fashion and understands that everyone has varying science backgrounds. His exams are fair and only based on lecture content. For each midterm, he gave us access to 1/3 of the questions beforehand which was very kind. The course content was super interesting and I recommend that everyone takes his course!
Tends to read directly off the slides; towards the end, the lecture slides were just paragraphs of text that he would read off of, so attending lecture was not beneficial. A lot of material but nothing very tough. Most exams were fair and did not ask very specific questions (as compared to the practice given, which was much more difficult).
Course material is difficult in general, and the prof's lectures do nothing to make it easier to understand. He's very knowledgeable about his field but unfortunately also incredibly monotone.
Good lecturer— very knowledgeable and approachable.
Professor Britt's PSYC211 is a challenging but rewarding course. The lectures are engaging, and the TA conferences are incredibly helpful. While the material is dense, using Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can really boost your learning.
VERY monotonous and reads off the slides 99% of the time, but material is super interesting! tests are heavy with lots of material, but if you take good notes and go to lectures/watch recordings you should be fine. textbook is not mandatory, but it helps clear terms up if needed. questions are pretty fair game, overall a good class!
his voice will defo snooze you to sleep, but if you study well, the exams aren't too bad! it's just a little scary because it's a LOT of memorizing. but honestly sweet guy, this class is also a gamble with the TAs and seeing if their review sessions are any good or relevant. but overall, neuro was a fun class, just a lot of work.
This class was pretty hard in my opinion but definitely interesting. Be prepared to put in extra work on any concepts you don't understand otherwise you'll fall behind quickly. The lectures are super content packed - he always takes the whole 1.5 hours. Overall it's very interesting to learn about how the brain works but sooo much content to study
Prof Brit is super knowledgeable about his field and the lectures are always really interesting but he does talk in a really monotone voice. However, the exams are really tough, especially because the content of this course is really hard. His questions during the exams are all really specific so there is definitely a lot of memorization involved.
Super knowledgeable and kind. His lectures are incredibly packed with content, though. There were 24 slide sets to memorize. His tests are also pretty difficult, demanding you to apply what you memorized to new situations that he doesn't present in class. The extra homework assignments and the TA-designed practice tests and conferences are crucial.
he literally just reads from his lecture slides but EVERYTHING on them are on the exam so its way easier to study, he also makes practice quizzes to which you can do as many times as you want for both midterms (5% in total) about 2-3 lectures and he would randomly choose some of the quizzes to be on the exam.
He completely reads off of slides in lecture which makes them a bit unexciting but on the bright side you do not have to attend classes as everything you need to know can be found on them. He also provides a free 10% my completing quizzes which you can do as many times as you want. Overall would definitely take one of his classes again.
The lectures could be a bit boring but the material itself was very interesting. It's a big memorization course.
Powerpoints are very clear so attendance is not necessary. the questions on the exams are fairly straightforward but get ready to learn so many things by heart that your brain feels saturated. Extremely boring lectures and tone but class is interesting overall
Psyc 318 is pretty content heavy, but Britt is a good lecturer and explains things clearly. His section is focused on the research articles he chooses.
This is my second time taking him after PSYC211, and he doesn't disappoint. If you can grind through neuroscience articles and attend lectures consistently, this class will blow your mind. The ONLY caveat is the Wayne Sossin lectures in the middle of the semester. He doesn't teach a lick of psychology and focuses on complex cell biology instead. :(
Straight forward class, organized slides but HEAVY material. I wish he could make the lectures a but more engaging because he is very monotone. His exams can be tricky because of wording, he pushes you to understand rather than memorize. I ignored the TA conferences lol because the slides have everything anyway and they just add more info imo.
Extremely heavy class but the material is fascinating and he goes very in depth which gives you an amazing understanding of the topics. The tests are very fair, it's just that the material is hard. His slides have everything you need. The practice quizzes are extremely helpful. He is super knowledgeable and really nice.
Very dense class material, but he explains the concepts in a very digestible way. His lectures are well structured and clear, and the exams are fair. Class has a very favourable grading scheme.
He was honestly great - The class itself is very hard and heavy (be VERY prepared for the toughest MCQ ever) but he is the sweetest prof I've had so far 10/10 teacher but very difficult course
This class can definitely be quite content heavy and it is pretty challenging, so I would definitely recommend testing yourself on the material as early as possible and keep up with it throughout the semester. Super interesting but not an easy A by any means.
