he's the easiest out of all the other history teachers. not much to turn in in class: midterm, final, essay, group project. Laid back..
He teaches History 117A, 117B, and CA history from time to time. He always writes on the board a list of terms he will be lecturing about, making it very easy for the students to follow along. Has an obvious love of history, it's a very structured class.
easy class, but midterm and final kinda hard
Very good lectures..You have to Study for the 3 tests including final. Very hard grader but go to the lectures and study like a normal student and you will be fine. I got a A.

Mr. Eden makes this class, which could be very boring, extremely interesting. he likes a lot of class discussion and is very helpfull and open to questions. Easy class midterm, final, group project and a book report. Really cool guy, I admire his teaching
class is real easy to follow. as long as you listen to his lectures, your gonna pass his class. didnt feel he was a hard grader. test and projects way easy.
Mr. Eden is an AWSOME teacher. He does a great job of expressing the ideas and topics of the course. He makes the otherwise mundane topic of history exciting

If you take this class at night especially, be prepared to be BORED OUT OF YOUR MIND if History is not your thing. He doesn't grade hard on presentations, but all he does is talk for the entire class period-this can put anyone to sleep! There are only 2 BIG tests but he wont narrow down what you should focus on makes studying for his exams harder.
He's all right, but I just dont understand why he cant pass out the study guides more in advance, and narrow it dow a little bit. He gives you like 54 things to study, and like 8 things are on the test. DAM
This teacher is extremely boring all he does is lecture the whole time everyday. I don't reccomend him to anyone unless you want to fall asleep every class. His tests are hard and he doesnt give good notes.
One oral presentation. Yeah, all he does is lecture but what else can you do when teaching history. He knows the subject well. You have to go to class every day cuz your notes is what is on the study guide. Only one midterm and one final and a book report.
This teacher was EXTREMELY BORING. If your not interested in history Don't take this class you will fall asleep and fail. He grades hard even though it's not a lot but he doesn't give you any slcak. he gives 3 tests 1 book report and 1 presentation. I do not reccomend!

This class was sometimes boring but he knows what he's talking about! If you're at all interested in the history of the United States then you will enjoy listening to his lectures because he's very knowledgable!! The tests were pretty easy.. watch out because he'll stick you in random groups for the presentation.. so make some friends!
This teacher is extremely BORING! If your not into History don't take him. All he does is lecture every single class and he grades hard even though you only get 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 presentation and 1 book report. Not reccomended! You will fall asleep every class.
An excellent teacher. I took his two classes 117A and 117B.
hes a wonderful guy who looks like the 40 yr old virgin but hes such a cool teacher that actually makes history understandable but u do have to write a book report but the uncle tom cabin is the ezest..but other then that u do have to come to class cause the notes u take in class is basically the test.. i recommand him or bardell..
Very nice and knows a lot about what he's teaching. I learned the most i've ever learned in any history class. Highly suggest you take his class!
I love this guy! He helped me enjoy history. He is the best teacher I ever took at Ohlone. TAKE HIM!!
this guys is awesome. there is a midterm, a paper, a pesentation, and a final. he grades all of them fairly and is very heplful. i'm a bad writer and we met outside our class to help me work on it. I never liked history until i took his class. he's very intersesting a knows what hes talking about and doesn't care much about dates. take him!!!!!!
If you have no knowledge of history - you're in for a brain massage. If however you know history, the questions of what he's doing begin right away.(He teaches what he wants you to know). He will grade according to your political standing with him. Final Exam Review Sheet: 129 points. Final exam: 6 questions. Take him at your own risk.
A book report, a midterm, a group presentation, and a final. Easy class as long as you take good notes while you're there (include dates). If you miss a week, get a copy of someone's notes. Teacher is very organized in his lesson plans. You DON'T need to buy the textbook. There is no assigned reading. It may be helpful, but not necessary.
Very clear expectations. The lecture can get dry for most people, but he tries hard to incorporate humor and to encourage class participation. You can do VERY well on his tests if you pay attention and take good notes. He grades fairly and is willing to meet with you outside the classroom if you need help.
Really nice guy, willing to work with you. Class is pretty easy, he doesn't really grade anything very hard except his Midterm and Final. I did the book report without even reading the book and got a b+. He's is very open to questions in class, and never makes you feel stupid. Class can be fun, yet notes are very important because he grades on what
Great teacher, rewarding for students who show up to class everyday and take notes. Lectures are really engaging, which helps to remember the information. Rarely used the book. If you don't like essays or reading don't take this teacher - there are essay tests and a book report. Emphasis on comprehension, not just memorization. Awesome
Eden isnt boring, admits that all hist prof are biased & will make you laugh a little during his lectures. This semester there was a book report, group presentation, midterm & final. Like any class, you fail if you dont show up often & dont study. I didnt use the textbook but I never missed a lecture! I dont regret taking his class at all (:
Attendance is required! You miss a class and your screwed. The midterm and final consist of 5 short essay plus essay. I learned alot from this professor. He was born to teach. He makes me laugh!! take him but be prepared to study really hard for the midterm and final! TIP: Be very specific on your presentation and book report.
dONT TAKE THIS TEACHER, if you want an A or an EASY A...Because he will not go easy on you, i worked my ass for this class ignoring all other and still got a B, i studied for hours for his tests, which are really long ( essay questions) but he will not give you an A at any cost. no point talking t him, he gave me 88% in midterm!
Mr.Eden is a great Teacher. He brings life to the history. he is very helpful. His lectures are too long BUT very informative and interesting. You don't have to touch the text book, his lectures and notes are enough to get an (A). Book report and to the point presentation are important in this course. And for mid term and final study your notes.
He's not a bad teacher. He is a tough grader. Lectures are long, interesting, and relevant. No Homework, just 1 book report, presentation, 2 tests. But like I said.... he is a tough grader. He is very straight forward, I'd take him again.
He is a nice guy, but sitting in this class 3 hours is too long. He is very knowledgable, but loses most of the class after 2 hours. He's also very basic- 1 book report, midterm, group presentation, and a final. No homework though! You do have to take good notes and study a lot to do good on your exams, you don't need the textbook. He's a hard grader
One of the best professors I've ever had. Genuinely loves history & teaching, which encouraged me to work hard. Lectures are long but easy to follow; he provides a list of terms that he covers during class. Lectures are engaging-he teaches history as if he's telling a story. Keeps class interactive. Makes time to meet w/ students who need help
He's a great professor although his tests are really difficult. He's also a really tough grader. you can learn a LOT in his class though but I suggest that if you're majoring in history... take his class!
He is a pretty good teacher. He tries to make his lectures interesting and he connects with the class well. The material is pretty straight forward and he does provide help when you ask for it. His tests are pretty easy as long as you study for them. I did pretty well in his class and history is my worst subject.
This is one of those classes where getting a B is dirt easy and getting an A is impossible. He grades SO HARD, and i am a 4.0 Engineering Student! He will mark you off like hes trying to make you feel some pain. Overall though he is a GREAT TEACHER if you are looking to LEARN. TOTALLY interesting, knows A LOT about history, & tells it like a story!
Took his 117A class & went back this semester to take his 117B! I absolutely love him. I hate history & he makes it so interesting. I actually enjoy going to class and listening to his lectures. No reading or HW. Just 1 book report, 1 presentation, and a midterm and final. RECOMMENDED!! I would take him for another history class if he taught one.
This guy is one of those teachers that teaches well but deep down you hate him so much. The guy blow is correct. Its IMPOSSIBLE to get an A in this class and i too have almost straight A's. No matter what you do and HOW WELL you do it he WILL GIVE YOU A B. He has no structured way of how to grade people, he gives what he feels like. VERY BAD! AVOID
I learned a lot from taking his class, and I would definitely take it again. 1 book report, 1 group presentation, and midterm/final. As long as you pay attention, and take detailed notes, an study, you will do just fine! This is not a class for you if you are those people that procrastinate and avoid studying. If you don't study, you will fail.
Don't listen to the people saying "impossible to get A". It is not. All you have to do is attend class and take good notes. His tests are all based on the notes. He is very interesting and makes history fun. 1 paper based on a book, 1 presentation, 2 tests. That is it. Take good notes and study them once or twice and you will be fine.
The person below is full of it. It is VERY hard to get an A in the class. You do so well on your assignments and he gives you a B even if you give him A work. You might do better than your friend and he gets a better grade than you. In this class you do not necessarily EARN your grades you are given grades on how he "feels". No structure at all.
Professor Eden is freaking awesome. I had him for 117B and I just love his teaching style. He's very organized and try to make his lecture "fun/interesting". It gets bored time to time, but he's an amazing professor. You don't need to buy a textbook in this class. Just read/study/memorize his class notes then you will get A or B!
Amazing Teacher! Super passionate, and it makes his lectures really engaging. It is not impossible to get an A, just attend class and take good notes. And key point is to study! Its common sense its a history class so remember dates!!!Like said below,1 paper, 1 presentation, 2 tests. Great teacher, extremely organized!Def take his class!
VERY BORING TEACHER! He gives hard test and midterm.
This professor is awesome! You learn so much, and the midterm/final is a breeze if you read and study your notes. Honestly guys, it's a history class. Of course you need to remember what you write down. There are the two main exams, 10 quizzes based on a book, and a group presentation. If you study, you'll get an A. Simple as that.
Eden is a terrific professor--his lectures are engaging, informative and memorable. Studying was a breeze because he brought the subject to life. The class is low commitment as well, only short quizzes, one midterm, a final and a group presentation. I highly recommend this class even if you aren't interested in the subject.
So amazing and helpful! Super clear on all of his lectures, and provides really interesting material to engage the class. I found myself studying the extra mile to do well in his class, but he really makes it worth coming to class. I highly recommend him, and would take another class with him if I could!
Eden is an excellent professor, and his class is very informative and lively. Take his class if you learn best by listening to lectures and taking notes. If you learn best reading a textbook, then this class is not for you.
Awesome teacher!! His classes are very informative. He makes sure that you are involved and are participating during class lectures. If you know the stuff then midterms and finals are pretty easy. I recommend him highly!!
Professor Eden is amazing! He makes history so interesting. It is NOT impossible to make an A in his class. It's actually very easy, just study. Does not give good grades for BS answers so if that's what you're about - don't take his class. He loves enthusiasm and rewards you for it. I wish I could take another class with him!
This guy is great- no textbook because HE teaches the material. (that does mean you need to attend to learn, no book and no powerpoints). But he tells history like a story and piqued everyone's interest. A novel will be assigned, 10 easy two-question quizzes on the book chapters. One midterm and a final. Would definitely recommend this teacher.
He is a good teacher. You have a midterm and a final as well as a presentation. He knows his stuff and will have a book that you have to read for weekly quizzes.
Excellent teacher! Boosted my interest in history x1000!We had weekly quizzes that were out of 20 points each; fairly easy (if you do the reading). The midterm, presentation, and final. He is an excellent lecturer (sometimes he can go a little fast). He engages the class and makes the past come alive. Overall, he is great, if not the best! Take him
He is one of the best teacher. He makes history so much easier for us to understand. His classes are almost full all the time and its hard to get in, so better register early. I would highly recommend him. thumbs up for his teaching style. :)
He ins't very accommodating. His lectures are very boring and his midterms are all written and no multiple choice . i wouldn't recommend this teacher.
Grading: Weekly quizzes from a book, midtermfinal from his lectures, attendance, and a group presentation. Tips: Be detailed in the quizzestests. They're not hard if you can memorize stuff well. Show interest, ask questions, and participate in class. And attend: attendance is graded.
Make sure you take great notes in his class. He will state, lets say something about the Ohlone Indians and on the test he wants you to have what color loin cloth that Indian chief had on for that day. Be ready for specifics!! If you need help get it early in the class and stay on top of it. Don't take an English class with this class...
Eden was a really through and easy professor. He gave long lectures but they were well explained. The midterm and final were a lot of questions and pretty intense, but if you took good notes, then you were fine. We also did one group project. It took some work, but it wasn't outrageously difficult. I would definitely take the class again!
This professor is really great, able to make the dried historical events have great taste. I took his class felt like my version of "the Great Awakening" . He did his own researches on each topics. In this class, no text book is really required, except the reading materials for Qz. People have to listen carefully and take the notes for two exams.
Took for 117A and B. Great teacher, very clear on expectations but not difficult if you participate. Grading is on 10 weekly quizzes from a book, lowest score dropped; midtermfinal; and a group presentation. Participation counts, but let him know if you'll miss class and you will be okay. Tests are all essay based, and he likes a lot of details.
His lectures are pretty interesting on some topics because he tells it like a story, but you basically have to take notes by listening. His test are all essay based, so your notes has to be good because the more details the better. He is critical on group presentations, which is funny because he never looks at his students but only at the ceiling.
There is NO textbook, powerpoints, or study guide in this class. You have to write DETAILED notes as he talks. He'll give you a list of terms to study which is about 90 but he will only test you on 6! Toughest class I've taken at Ohlone and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you ALREADY KNOW HISTORY REALLY WELL.
This class was one of the hardest classes I've taken at ohlone! Eden has NO PowerPoint slides, you basically have to listen and take notes! It would be really helpful if he used PowerPoint slides during his lectures! Quizzes every week on the book he assigns us to read, grades really harsh on those quizzes! only 7 mins to take a quiz?! -____-
This class was one of the hardest classes I've taken at ohlone! Eden has NO PowerPoint slides! it would be nice If he had slides during his lectures! Be prepared to read each night and have a quiz on the book he assigns! Gives you only a few minutes to answer two essay questions on those quizzes. NOT enough time!
Prof. Eden is PASSIONATE about his lectures & teaches like he's telling a story. TIP: TAKE NOTES AS ONE LONG STORY, don't bother making bullet points! It's so much easier to study for exams that way since they are short answer q's. STUDY AND YOU WILL DO GREAT! He makes it fun. You also read a book and do a group project. I got an A in the class.
Very easy to listen to in lectures but you do have to show up because there is no book for lecture. A lot of reading for homework and also wants you to participate in class. You have to do one presentation and he grades you like this is a speech class (one of the harder ones). It is very hard to get an A.
Eden is pretty straight forward, as long as you take the quizzes seriously you will be fine. He like you to remember random details from the reading, the more you can give the better. He takes roll every day and if you miss more than 8 classes HE WILL DROP YOU!
Gives you a book and quizzes you on every chapter every week. He has amazing lectures, but is a hard grader. He takes role every class and takes off points for participation if you do not come to class.
Participation: 5%; Quiz: 20%; Presentation: 15%; Midterm: 30%; Final: 30%. Material all from lectures, so lots of notes & memorization. Weekly quiz based on novel, The Help. Entirely written final exams. Group presentation on history topic. Grading not too hard as long as you are prepared & convey what you know. Amazing story-like lectures though!
He has ignited my love of history. Lecture, reading + quizzes on the reading, group project. Take notes and read them EVERYDAY after lecture and exams will be a breeze. Do not take notes lightly. The more detail, the better you will be. Man loves his details! Show up and get ready to listen and learn. Amazing teacher. 10/10 highly recommend.
An excellent professor, one who loves history and spreads his passion to others. His quizzes and classwork require intricate thought and great detail, but should not be a problem, as his lectures are interesting and never bore. A simply wonderful professor, 10/10.
Professor Eden is an amazing professor. He is very passionate about History and lectures in "story-like" fashion. DO take notes, participate in class, show up as he takes role daily. On Tests/Quiz's the more details you can provide the better. He provides thoughtful feedback. He cares, and it shows. I would totally take him again.
as a history major, I generally got A's on all of the weekly quizzes and midterm so far, which are pretty easy if you read diligently. However, I can see that if you aren't one who loves history than the class can be dull at times but he does make an effort to be interresting and he does tell a good story which can engage the class.
Needed to take history as part of my GE's and I'm honestly glad that I chose Prof. Eden. He really engages in his lectures and makes them interesting although at times they can be long. I like to record the lectures just in case. Take LOTS of notes. He has weekly tests on a book he assigns. Overall, I really liked this class and would take it again
This class honestly sucks for me. I try really hard, I study really hard, and I am still getting a C in this class. It's as though no matter what I do, my work isn't good enough. Even when you take into account my anxiety, depression, insomnia, and ADD, the class is still too hard. I am doing well in my other classes, like BIO. Not US History.
This class was manageable. In my opinion, if you kind of try you'll get a B or C, but you have to try really hard to get an A. Very lecture heavy and could be hard to pay attention at times. There is no homework aside from reading/ studying to your grade relies heavily on quizzes and exams.
(117A/B) Coursework consists of weekly quizzes, a midterm, a group presentation and a final. The weekly quizzes are based on short weekly reading and the midterm and final are based entirely on lecture. He has great lectures so take good notes and do the reading and it's a pretty easy A unless group for presentation sucks. Overall amazing professor
He's a good lecturer and the class can be fun. You need to work a lot, weekly quizzes based on a textbook and course reader, Midterm, Final, and a group presentation. To get an A in the class you REALLY have to be on top of everything. Miss one or two, and you're gonna get a B.
Must attend or he will drop you. No extra credit. Has you read historical novels with chapter by chapter tests. (1 quiz per week). 1 group project. Lectures are really good, he really knows his stuff. As long as you write fast and have good comprehension skills you should be fine. The more details you have on the tests/quizzes the more A's you get.
Professor Eden was a really great teacher! He taught the material really well and that's coming from someone who doesn't like history that much. There will be a class reading and there's quizzes based on that. Also, his tests aren't multiple choice and you need a green book to answer the questions. He is a really tough grader, but great professor.
don't take him unless you are REALLY passionate about history. he goes in depth about people and places, basically everything, which isn't bad but if you're just looking for credit, take someone else. - quizzes every Thursday on two books you have to buy - one group presentation - he keeps track of participation points!!
It was such a joy to be a part of Prof. Edens class. The outline is simple for his class: take super good notes on his lectures because he doesn't assign hw, just midterm and final. You have weekly quizzes on readings. Overall, the class was workload heavy but he was super passionate and funny during lectures and he really knows his stuff!
This guy is a terrible teacher. His grading is unfair and seems to vary from day to day. His quizzes are ridiculously detailed short essay questions and he expects you to complete them in only 15-20 minutes. He is very condescending and acts like every word he speaks is "pure gold". Expect your hands to hurt from writing so many notes. Anyone else
This class is not easy, take very good notes as he makes you write detailed timed essays and weekly quizzes. He is really passionate about the subject. Ask questions and participate, he grades that as well. Overall he is a great professor. I recommend you not take this class if youre not super into history.
Professor Eden's passion for history, and teaching it are evident the very first class of his you attend. He doesn't lecture, he tells stories. This not only makes you remember and process the information better, it makes it interesting. His obvious love for telling stories is infectious. I WISH he taught more than just 117A and 117B!
Professor Eden's lectures are great, he's extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, but your hand will hurt from writing so many notes. There are weekly quizzes on readings from the class reader, 1 group presentation, 1 midterm, and 1 final with no multiple choice; no extra credit is offered. Take extremely good notes in this class!
Tips: Study with others! This made memorizing topics so much easier. Do the work and don't slack off at the beginning of the semester because it will be hard to make it up. (You only have weekly reading quizzes as your homework; lowest quiz grade will be dropped.) Actually go to class Write down as many details as possible for quizzes and exams.
Prof Eden is an amazing professor, and his lectures even inspired me to dig deeper into history. The only homework per week is a 20-30 page reading and a 10 minute reading quiz, but do know that the midterm and final are pretty stressful because you must memorize 8 weeks worth of lectures. (He loves details, statistics, and dates). &He's very kind!
Lectures were entirely oral and in person, but were amazing to listen to as he really knows his stuff. Grading throughout the semester was sporadic, he was not the clearest on what his criteria was as all assignments were free response questions. Really learned a lot though, and was a great instructor overall.
I took this class years ago & forgot to rate him. His class is the only C I got in my transcript. Mind you, I love History. I would study so much for this class because I knew he was a tough grader. My hand would hurt from taking notes and he even failed one of my friends who study just as much. I remember him being condescending as well.
He is a fantastic lecturer. If you can't take good notes then don't take this class, notes are everything. Show up and pay attention. The midterm and final will be a lot to study. This class otherwise is no homework and very simple/straightforward. You'll learn a lot if you put in a lot. Not a coasting class though so beware
Had amazing lectures packed with notable information, so I never fell asleep in class. Our grade consisted of weekly quizzes, a group presentation, midterm, and final. We skimmed/read through about 20 pages every week for the quizzes, and memorized key events to write about in the exams. Getting an A on a quiz/exam was rare, usually Bs/Cs.
I loved Prof. Eden. I actually retained a lot about CA history because his tests require you to know the material in depth. This is a hard class to skip because his lectures are information that could be on his midterm & exams. He is sweet and just wants his students to learn.
I LOVED Professor Eden. Definitely the humanities class I've ever taken! His lectures are so good and informative, and he is really passionate about what he teaches. To succeed in this class, you just have to study the readings, take really good notes, and study them hard for the tests. If you miss a lecture, DEF ask for notes or get a recording
Professor Eden is a very impressive person. He is quite knowledgeable and considerate. If I had a do-over then I would do some things different like, make more time for studying for the midterm, final exam and transcribe my notes from written to typed on a weekly basis so when it comes time to crunch, I would be better prepared. He is very fair.
Professor Eden is genuinely passionate about history. His engaging lectures and emphasis on note-taking make for a challenging but rewarding class. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for quiz prep!
