He's a very good professor. There was only one exam, but if you study and know most of the material, it won't be hard. If you watch the lectures, you don't really have to read the textbook. The only things you have to read are any extra assigned readings which isn't hard.
Great online class. Has a good amount of assignments and tests, but he is very clear on the rubrics.
Take one of his classes if you have trouble sleeping, because his lectures will put you right to sleep! His classes are extremely boring. From the reading material to the lectures. A real snoozefest. There is a positive side to this, his classes are extremely easy to pass.
Good class and teacher. Laid back but lots of info.
I would definitely not take this professor again unless absolutely necessary.
keeps it interesting
His lectures can be lengthy. Though each one provides sufficient information to pass the quizzestests if you also read the text book. His class wasn't too easy which made it interesting.
History 102 was much better compared to History 101. Dr. Foster is helpful and gives some feedback on assignments. His course is straight forward. Watch the lectures and read the book and you should pass.
He gives very clear instructions for all his assignments, but if you need any clarifications you can easily contact him via email. There is either a quiz or discussion post every week, and lectures. The assignments aren't too rough as long as you read the book, watch the lectures (& take notes). Don't procrastinate! Late work will hurt you!
The course consists of discussions, quizzes and assignments bases off of readings. The quizzes as well as the midterm and final are easy as long as you read and watched the lectures. The lectures are usually about 40 minutes to an hour long but they hold a lot of needed information.
Barely got an A, but that was my own fault. Excellent teacher, as an online class you have both video lectures and reading assignments. My friend read the book and I watched the lectures and we both had the same information. If you really want to understand, read the book and take really good notes on the lectures.
He was a great professor, very understanding of technological issues. If you're having trouble with submitting an assignment, he will help you in any way he can. Listening to the lectures and reading the assigned work will almost guarantee you an A. His work isn't difficult as long as you stay on top of it. Everything is laid out in the syllabus.
BY FAR THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER TAKEN. Takes weeks to grade your assignments and gives feedback that doesn't help at all. He takes his discussions the most serious. He wrote that i didn't give a clear point in my discussions when they were more than 120 words clearly stating my point. if i could i would give him a 0/10.
DO NOT TAKE! He is a tough grader with little to no feedback. Take any other professor! You will regret it. If you do not write exactly what he wants he will mark you off. You will not receive an A in this class if you do not research the topics and discussions for hours. Exams are beyond terrible, all written responses. Will never recommend.
Good class, not that hard as far as college courses go. Have to do the work.
Good class, learned a lot. Obviously knows his stuff, nice. Recommend.
He takes forever on grading like the Mid Term Exam, Quizzes, and Dicussion. He is awful history professor. Grades last minute and rushes students on quizzes.
Beware of the Mid-Terms and Final Exams study guide they will through you off because when you study it. it won't be the same he switchs the questions.
good class. Learned alot.
This class consisted of a few discussions, an essay multiple quizzes, a midterm, and final. My main issue with this class was every quiz and test was timed and I never felt like I had enough time to meet his expectations. He takes a long time to grade and he NEVER gave feedback. He offered extra credit, using NY times articles that were unreadable!
He takes forever to grade the final and takes forever to release the grades. Does things last minute. One of biggest pet peeve. The main issue in this class was he needs to grade on time so students don't stress out.
Good class
two exams with multiple choice and essay a few discussions and a short paper. Not bad. Interesting class.
He is a great professor. He is very clear on what he wants on the assignments. There a lot of lectures that I had to watch and take notes on. The textbook was huge! I had to read about 30-60 pages a week which was a lot for me. You can get by though without the readings. There were four discussions, five quizzes, and a paper, and two exams.
He gives lectures, primary source readings, and textbook reading every week. There are alternating discussion posts and quizzes every week. Get ready to read the book because you will need it for the quizzes, midterm, and final (Pay attention to the lecture) You only have one paper. It's a pretty easy class if you turn in all hw and pass quizzes.
Class is easy. 5 reading/lecture quizzes, 4 discussions, 1 paper on a book, 2 extra credit assignments, and midterm/final. He's super understanding about technical issues. I never used the textbook. All you need is in the lectures. Exams were proctored and multiple-choice. As long as you study the lectures, you should be fine. Curves the exams
6 quizzes based of hour long lectures and reading that were not multiple choice, 4 discussions and if you must cite reading and give in depth response to 2 people or will be marked off greatly, 2 exams that had 1 essay, 2 paragraph answers, and 2 short answers, 1 paper, & extra credit at end
I took this class over summer(6 week course). By far one of the worst classes I have ever taken. I am usually pretty good with history but with this class his lectures were slow, long and hard to comprehend. The textbook is long and you have to memorize everything!!! I wish he put more work into what to study for the exams. I was miserable.
This class has lots of very long hard to understand lectures, other than that if you follow instructions and complete all assignments passing will not be too hard.
I took his online class in Hist 102. There are 3 to 4 lectures, 3 to 4 chapters, a discussion post and a quiz but he gave us 2 weeks to accomplish the assignments.
This teacher is great and put everything that was going to happen during this semester. There was no pop quizzes also there was discussions and quizzes every two weeks and two big test. An easy A as long as you listen to the lectures. He offers extra credit and will fix any mistakes he makes he is very caring.
The class was pretty easy and if you do your work you'll easily pass. Lectures are extremely boring and by the middle of the semester, I stopped listening to them. Grades all the discussions and essays really easy though. Tests are pretty specific but not impossible. You can find a better professor elsewhere.
Did his summer and regular class. Easy to pass, study a lot (I crammed), his study guides are a little helpful. Some questions are specific. Takes questions from the quizzes. Lectures are key(short ones are 20min, usually 40-65 min), put them at 2x speed is a lifesaver. The exam will sometimes have essays, on study guide he'll tell you possible one
We only have like 4 discussion posts and 10 quizzes that are easy. One paper on a book and 2 exams that need to be taken with supervision. Hes a tough grader and makes you work for it, so you have to put effort. He gives out really long lectures so be prepared to write everything down to use for the exams.
Get ready for your hand to hurt after all the notes you have to take on lectures and readings. Can be a slow talker, so would recommend looking up other sources as well. Gives very good feedback that can help you improve, but since he gives detailed feedback it can take him a while to grade your assignment.
His quizzes arent on the textbook info, he has way to much reading required. Do NOT recommend
Had him for my first year and I had to take his class because all the other ones filled up, but he wasn't that bad. We had to watch about three or four lectures for each module and then either had a discussion post or a short quiz. There's two exams; a midterm and final. If you study for them, you'll be fine.
Discussion and quiz every two weeks. Big paper on Co. Aytch at the end of the year. Midterm and Final each worth 25% of overall grade, 50 questions. He asks questions on things not covered by textbook or lecture. Has really specific criteria for assignments, but unclear on the required reading. An A is possible if you aggressively study for exams.
Quizlet will be your best friend. As well as "control-f". This dude is a pretty tough grader, especially on his essays. Make sure you have someone to proofread your essay and fix your grammar mistakes because this Foster wants everything in pristine condition. He is a tough grader so beware. First impressions matter also. Hit that 200-word cap.
Takes years of grading assignments in History 101, 102, 417C, 441. There is also a lot of writing in this class.
Dr. Foster is a great professor he is very understanding and responds immediately when you ask him a question.
He's cool. About three or four lectures for each module. I usually put them on 2x speed and got through them in half the time. Tests are usually common sense, and he posts a study guide, so if you do that and listen to the lectures its an easy A.
Dr. Foster is a great professor! However, I do not recommend taking him if you don't like to put in work. There are many long lectures that you have to watch. In this semester you have to take 2 exams, take a syllabus quiz, take 6 reading and lecture quizzes, one U.S. Constitution quiz, 4 discussions, and a paper. I recommend taking Dr. Foster.
Professor Fosters class was amazing. Every 2 weeks, theres a discussion due along with a quiz. The quizzes were over a section of reading plus lectures. I only watched the lectures. Study guides for 2 exams. He also has one EC opportunity worth 5% of your grade. 1 paper written on a book-very easily graded
If you want an easy A, this isn't the professor for you. He doesn't grade based off completion, he actually reads what you write and grades based off a rubric but the rubric is clear. There are required discussions, lots of lectures, easy quizzes (use Quizlet), and one essay on a memoir. He's nice though and rounded my grade
He was cool
About 6 modules, with 4 lectures per module, quiz per module, and a discussion per module. Put the lectures on double speed and it is not too bad. There is a midterm, final, and a book report that are all worth a lot. There is an extra credit assignment. You must put in the work, but it is interesting. Great professor who will work with you.
Foster is alright, to say the least, he really makes you earn your A for this course. But quite honestly you really don't need to buy the textbook or novel meant for his class because you can find the information online for free and he is not too particular about it. His lecture videos also help as a substitute for the book, make sure you review!
This class was easy, but I wish I would've known how important the class work is at the beginning of the semester. In this class there is very few opportunities to bring your grade up due to the lack of assignments, but if you do well and actually study and listen to his lectures you'll pass.
Foster will make you work for your grade. You will need to watch all the lectures and read assigned reading for the quizzes. The final study guide is like the exam if you study every bit of information.
There's several discussion posts throughout the semester (200 words and one response). There are two exams which are proctored if you take online and there are a few quizzes sprinkled in. There's also an essay that you have to write about on an assigned book. If you read the assigned modules and make time to listen to the lectures you will pass.
Most of this class was watching long lectures. Very few assignments, we would have a 250 word discussion post every 2 weeks followed by a 10 question quiz. There is a mid term and final that are each 50 questions long and 1 essay due. Watch the lectures and this is an easy class!
He was great! I enjoyed all of his History classes and learned so much from him! Key to passing his classes: 1. ALWAYS show up to class if possible. 2.) ALWAYS READ THE ASSIGNED READINGS!! This is very important. Most of his quiz questions come straight from the textbook or other reading sources. 3.) COMPLETE EVERY ASSIGNMENT
Okay, I never write these so LISTEN to me when I say to avoid this class at all cost. Multiple hour long lectures. Some questions come straight from words he says in the lecture, and unless you write down word for word what he says, there is no way to get all his questions correct. Super tough grader on essays. Extremely difficult exams.
Even though he gives a lot of work in reading, I don't think it is really required to do so. I listened to the lectures and took notes on them and skimmed through the reading to make sure I got everything. Around 2-3 weeks to do a quiz (and sometimes a discussion) on the readings, lectures, etc. Book isn't really required because its technical info
Foster follows a structure that is easy to get used to. Primary Discussions every couple of weeks, 3-4 lectures per module, short quizzes, 2 exams, and one essay based on an assigned book. Overall not too difficult, but you do need to take good notes and read a bit. The hardest assignment was the Dust Bowl Essay. Take notes while reading the book.
For the Primary source discussions and the paper, you should do exactly as said to get full points. I got 100% on my paper. There are multiple lectures that are long but pace yourself and speed them up. Take notes and review them and then the quizzes shouldn't be too hard. There are only two extra credit assignments. It is hard though.
This class was ok at best. Midterm and Final can be difficult if you do not study, however looking through lectures and doing your readings should help you. The quizzes were pretty easy and there is one paper during the semester.
Jonathan foster is a extremely tough grader, makes you work incredibly hard for a B even more so for an A gives vague feedback at best lectures are long and boring. The reading is also long and extremely boring
He is an extremely tough grader gives vague feedback at best ,long lectures and even longer reading
Relatively Easy Class, 6 modules each module has lectures and a quiz that is very easy as well as a discussion posts, a paper that was graded harshly and a midterm and final. Easy 101 class besides for the paper requirements. Opened the textbook about 4-5 times this semester.
Dr. Foster was a great teacher with few assignments. He's a tough grader but explains the criteria clearly and as long as you follow them, you will be fine. He posted 4-7 lectures a month and gives until the end of the month to complete the assignments (typically a discussion and a quiz). Overall, he was a great professor.
I took both 101 and 102 with him, and he was great. The only complaint that I have is that he is a pretty strict grader. You must follow his rubric perfectly and really be detailed, especially for exam questions. He is also very lecture-heavy, but there were few assignments.
I took Dr. Foster for both Hist 101 & 102. His class isn't difficult if you manage your time. Typically, you have a large discussion post & a quiz that can be taken infinite times due at the end of the month. There is 1 essay due as well. His requirements are very specific & but if you follow them you'll be graded well. I definitely recommend him.
I took both 101 and 102 with him and I think he's nice. He's a strict grader, so you really need to follow the rubric he gives perfectly, then you'll be all good. But he gives very good feedback, and none of the assignments were difficult.
The quizzes are easy if you watch the lectures, but the essays make this class difficult. Grading criteria is uber specific, and if you don't follow all of the rubrics to a T then you get a lot of points taken off.
Overall the class was good.
He is a good teacher, lectures are very heavy, but you can easily find a lot of content online. The essay counts a lot at the end of the semester, so be sure you make it correctly. He gives excellent feedback.
Ok, listen Foster is a super easy class. 2 exams which are the same as his quizzes, and the quizzes you get unlimited tries. And one paper which if you put a decent amount of effort you will get an A. I really recommend you take his class.
Professor Foster is an amazing instructor! He provides good feedback on assignments and thorough and easy-to-understand lectures. He is also one of the fastest graders that I have had here at GBC. If you follow the rubrics and put in the effort, this class is an easy A. I would be happy to take classes with him again in the future.
Professor Foster has a pretty simple format he assigns 6 modules, but gives you a lot of time to do the assignments. He assigns a quiz every module and 4 discussion posts. The assignments that you should worry about though is the paper and the 2 exams since they are worth the most. Overall, very good class just be responsible with your time.
Gives you plenty of time to do all assignments. A little tough on some assignments. Make sure you have enough sources on assignments. That is why I would get points off.
If you love lectures like me, Foster's awesome. There are a LOT of them, but he's engaging and gets to the point, and gives you a well-rounded view of American history (especially on 1.25x speed. Seriously, do it). He does have a paper due that's worth a LOT of your grade on an (affordable) book, so don't rush it last minute. He has two exams.
Really good history professor one module consists of roughly 4 lectures one quiz one discussion. He is just lecture heavy be prepared to take notes because you have to use it for the discussion as long as you do whats expected you will get an A.
I took Dr. Foster's History 101 and History 102 class and honestly it isn't hard as long as you watch the lectures and read the required textbooks. Dr. Foster is a tough grader but if you make sure to follow the rubric, you'll get a good grade in his class. Overall, he is a great teacher!
Jonathan Foster is amazing professor. While he was lecture heavy, you could easily do the discussions by citing each source once and backing your point up. If you can write a well thought out response on the questions you will pass. He is not a tough grader, but does check to make sure you actually tried. READ THE BOOK!! Paper is worth a lot!
He makes it mandatory that you quote the textbook on discussions so if you don't points are docked. Thats the only reason why I had a low A for hist 101. But in hist 102 with the textbook I got an A+. There isn't alot of work at all. I work on his class a few hours every 2 weeks. Discussions are time-consuming but there is very few. Decent class.
This class was pretty difficult but manageable. He assigns a discussion (which takes a while to complete) and a quiz every week or so. His exams are somewhat difficult but not too bad (essay questions at the end of them). He has a big essay in the middle of the semester about a book he requires. Overall a really tough grader on everything so beware
Professor Foster was the best teacher I've had for Hist 101 and 102. Even with the shortened 101, its a discussion and quiz weekly, with only 1 large paper for each class. It is a lot of reading, the lectures and textbook for each discussion, but if you know the gist, and give a good effort, its so simple. He cares and grades with what you deserve.
This class was difficult. Every week or two, he offers a discussion (which takes a long time to complete) and a quiz. His exams are challenging but not too demanding; they have essay questions at the end of them. In the middle of the semester, he has a major essay due regarding a book he needs. Overall, a pretty harsh grader. So be cautious.
Professor Foster is a pretty good professor except for the fact that his lectures are kind of boring. A lot of the quizzes and exams heavily rely on the textbook and there is a book report assignment so get ready to read. There are also discussion posts that rely on documents that you also have to read. Still pretty easy though.
The final essay is pretty easy but he is tough on grammar and spelling so look out for that. Just pick some random quotes that kinda fit and you'll be good. Really good course to have when you want to focus on other harder classes.
Lots of discussion
I really enjoyed his discussions bc i like writing and history and I think if you really like both of these subjects you'll have no problem getting them done even if they're lengthy. His lectures were a little boring but overall his grading is nicely done I don't consider him to be an extremely tough grader.
For the average workload, prof Foster might seem like a ton but it isn't really too bad. The discussions seem like a lot at first but they're genuinely interesting reads which gets you typing. It's definitely work, but easy if you're decent at writing. Provides great feedback, and will respond to any questions/concerns.
My experience in Hist 101 was absolutely wonderful and it was all thanks to this professor. He has extremely well thought out and written lectures and as long as you are at class or take good notes if doing his class online you are sure to succeed I would gladly take a course with him again.
Great professor! He's passionate about what he teaches! Midterm and final exams as well as a short essay make up ~75% of the overall grade for the course, so work extra hard on these! From my experience, Prof. Foster is clear about what he wants and puts out a study guide for the exams, which really aren't that difficult if you study hard.
Professor Fosters class was very time consuming and the lectures were very lengthy. Need to take great notes as quizzes are a huge part of grade and can only be taken once. When I had questions professor Foster responded in a timely manner. Would take again, just beware and prepare for lots of reading.
Decent professor, but kinda strict. No extra credit and no makeups, so you've got to stay on top of everything. Deadlines are usually on Saturdays which can be a bit inconvenient.
