Mastering Chem and the exams are the only things you get graded on. The exams can be very tricky, but he gets most of the questions from practice tests online. The lecture is very dry, but he does explain the material fairly well, so even though participation isn't a thing, going to class is still recommended. Be ready to study, though.

Overall a relatively boring lecturer, going to class is not mandatory as all he does is read off the power points he provides. His tests are nothing like the practice tests he provides. I' advise finding another teacher. Also uses mastering chemistry which I found unhelpful and a long grind for little benefit.

I had Dr. French for chem 106 & 116 and I'd say he's a pretty decent professor. He gives us a whole lot of resources to succeed, gives good feedback, and will help you as long as you ask for the help. Lectures weren't my fav, but if you pay attention, you'll 100% do well in his class. PLZ TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OFFICE HOURS! THEY'RE SO SO HELPFUL!

Love Dr. French, its chemistry, so you're foolish if you expect it to be easy, but he's a kind and fair instructor who wants you to succeed. There's a decent amount of homework, but its all reasonable and helps you with the content, as well as helping pad exam grades unlike many science courses. Solid guy and the best chem prof I've had so far.

Dr. French is an amazing professor! He really goes over everything in his lectures and does a lot of practice problems. He also offers a lot of office hours, and his exams are very reflective of what is gone over in class. Dr. F

Dr. French is a really funny professor, but the homework doesn't match what we learn in class so it makes it almost impossible and super difficult to complete. This just increases the time it takes to complete it fully... His lectures are also kinda boring but he means well. Tests are multiple choice.

Very sweet guy and a very good teacher as well! I took AP chem last year and struggled a lot but this class is 10 times easier. As long as you pay attention and do the HW he assigns, it doesn't require too much outside effort to do well on the tests

Homework and labs don't match what you'll be tested on. Practice tests are significantly easier than the actual exams. He seems to mean well and gives resources but I lectures are all over the place often skipping slides and its unclear what the topic is half the time.

French is a really nice guy and is there for students. However, his lectures are a lot and very fast-paced, making it hard to keep up sometimes. Four exams and one optional final, depending on how you do on the other four. Practice exams are a lot harder than the actual exam. Very HW heavy and takes up a lot of time.

Dr. French is kind and positive, even with many sections which is prob why he is so well liked. Chem isn't easy, but he explains things well. Lecture often doesn't match the homework, and homework only sometimes reflects the exams. Take notes, engage, and use practice exams. There are four exams and an optional final. Office hours are also helpful.

Jon French is the best chem professor! He makes himself available to students if you need help by hosting a lot of practice review sessions and office hours. He really cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. His exams are exactly the things he teaches in lecture. No quizzes either!

Dr. French was the best professor I had during my first semester at Syracuse University. He was always ready to answer any questions I had and wanted to see everyone succeed. He provided students with so many opportunities to do well including office hours and zoom review sessions. Dr. French is an amazing person and an amazing professor.

Dr. French is a good teacher, and his lectures are generally informative if not a bit repetitive. The online homework taught me the content the best, but Dr. French is an amazing resource and is always available outside of class. The exams are not too difficult and make up a smaller portion of your grade.

Dr. French definitely made me like Chemistry a LOT more than before! Of course, chem isn't the easiest thing in the world, it's still hard to not pass his class. He is very accessible, whether you're asking questions in class or going to office hours. He does a great job on providing resources for extra help, let alone clarifying anything in person

Jon French is a good professor and I really learned a lot in his classes. Attendance is like 3% and based on poll everywhere questions so it barely counts, he replies to emails pretty quickly and is accessible outside of class. His exams were kinda hard but mainly based on the homework and stuff he talks about in class.

Dr. French is the best professor I've had so far. If you have taken AP Chemistry, this class is a breeze and attendance is essentially optional. However, the course is still very manageable even if you haven't taken it before. The grading criteria is student-friendly and offers plenty of leeway if you happen to struggle on an exam.
