outsanding teacher, he realy tries to make the course interesting
This guy is a joke...so busy with his personas he forgets to teach the class. Very unclear.
Professor Graubart is an excellent teacher who knows his material well, is funny and very knowledgable. Classes are entertaining. Reading is excessive, not all necessary. Difficult but rewarding. 2 short answer/essay tests & 1 group presentation/paper.
He's a weird guy, but knows what his talking about. A lot of reading, but not necassary, just come to class, and easy B. Kind of hard grader.
Great class. Great professor. Very interesting, a little different, a lot of reading but just go to class. Two essay tests and an easy group assignment. Highly Recommend.
very interesting, knows his material.
Awesome class! Very interesting stuff, plus he makes it fun. Really good lecturer who knows his stuff. Lots of reading though, but if you're looking for a fun learning experience then this is it.
I LOVE PROF. GRAUBART--he is such a good teacher who is so intelligent. Plus, he is the nicest most humble person! Only 2 essay tests and the group simulation. Just go to class as much as possible, and pay attn and participate. He is really liberal.
Very Interesting class, lectures can sometimes be boring...but he breaks down material so that it is easy to digest. I had no point of reference for class, but did reading and talked with him during office hours...earned an A. Quirky guy!! Not difficul
LOVE HIM! He is a great teacher, not too hard, and I have learned a lot in his classes. This is my second class and I can say he is extremely helpfull, intelligent, and wants you to succeed!
He knows his stuff. One semester I got a D on the midterm and did well at the end and ended up with a B+. Get to know him and you'll be fine.
weird guy.
Graubart is great and super quirky! such an informative professor who assigns reading that seriously opens your mind to a variety of perspectives. A midterm, final, paper, and class simulation..not too bad. I highly recommend taking one of his classes.
Boring and strange person! He has managed to take a very interesting subject and ruin it with worthless theories from people people who don't even matter in the world. He is nice, but NOT open to thoughts residing outside a liberal framework, so conservatives arn't welcome.
took both of his classes and think he is the greatest! very knowledgable and helpful. He is interesting and quirky and is very open to different ideas. Has fun assignements and doesn't grade too hard. Both classes were two of my favorites and i look at the world differently now!
Hands down one of the best teachers at SDSU! Classes are always interesting and fun. Lots of discussion, do the readings and you'll be fine. Presents all points of view, so is fair to both liberals and conservatives.
Wow, I nice guy but the class was horrible. He spent way too much time on theory and too little time on true applied information. So, a great class if you want an A, but bad class if you want true info. to help you get a job or really understand the world. I hated every minute of his class!!!!!!!!!!
Teacher assigned a lot of reading, but was do-able.Helpful if go to office hours. Gives you a study guide 2 weeks before exams which have exact IDs and essay questions which will be on the tests. A short paper and a small group groject/presentation which doesn't take much effort.Good class-not 2 hard
Such a good teacher! The class is really interesting and he picks real world modern examples and readings to study. He is really helpful, funny, organized, and smart. Take this class...but not if you hate reading because there is a lot of it and all tests are based a lot on them.
Best teacher at state! Bar None!
Prof. Graubart want his students to succeed and is very helpful. He will help you with writing essays and papers. Lots of reading. In class midterm and final, two short papers and class project. Very informantive and interesting class.
He is very knowledgeable, organized, and has a weird but good sense of humor. You know precisely how and what you are going to get graded on, so he grades very fairly. A lot of reading and a fair amount of writing papers. I learned so much from this class so I highly recommend it.
If you take anything that is 500 an up, he is easier, but an possible A if you work extra tasty hard. He has the strict control style of Brian Adams and a strange sense of humor in a rodeo of Stev Schlereth but if you graduate by May, take him ANYWAY!
Professor Graubrt is one guy w/a strange sense of humor like Allen Greb! Personally, I highly recommend taking his classes as you will learn as much as you want. Pay attention to lecture & you'll pass with flying colors. If you get to know him, your grade may become even better as you wish.
He a great professor, but he is hard. Do you have a choice?
Great teacher and a wonder asset to the Poli Sci dept. The class is hard 2 exams, 5 or so homework question (really easy), group project and paper but just ask if you need help and he is more than willing to be there.

WOW...Tough class. The GOOD thing is that Dr. Graubart is an excellent Professor. Make sure that you do the readings or else you might as well drop before you get an "F". I learned a ton and did well, yet I had to put in a disproportionate amount of time compared to the rest of my classes. Graubart is organized, tough and fair.
Very difficult class, very knowledgeable, midterm/final, short paper, long paper, group project, occasional easy reading questions, heavy reading, the class was tough but rewarding, plus he's very funny, go to his office hours
Hard class, but worth it. Holds interest well, lots of reading, but good information. Exams are tough! Study the study guide inside and out and you might get a high B on exams. I would say almost impossible to get an A in class, but I don't regret taking it for a second. Forces you to think from different perspectives.
You have to go to every class and take quality notes or the tests will be very difficult. Do all the readings.
Lectures either boring or unclear. His effort is apparent. The readings mostly suck. The breakout section must not be missed. TA's conduct those and they are where the real learning occurs. Not all TA's are created equal. Tough graders, regardless of what they claim. Political Science major and I hated the class.
Great professor but hard class. be prepared to read, take QUALITY notes, and assist all lectures/discussions. always there when you need help, gives a you a study guide for the midterm/final so there is no surprise. there is no textbooks just reading "packets" Highly recommend!
Graubart is incredible. He gets you involved and in very creative in his lectures. He is passionate, knowledgable, and clear. I'm not going to lie, his tests (esp the final) are difficult to prepare for, but he informs you of all info that will be on tests. Difficult, but the best professor i've ever had.
If you go to the lectures and take notes you shouldnt have a problem getting a decent grade. He provided an outline during lectures so you had a prespective of what to take notes on. The final and midterms arent difficult just study the study guide. I definitely recommend him! Just hope you get a good TA though.
Pray for an easy TA, download his outline before each class, and take notes directly to your computer so they can easily be used to study for tests. THOROUGHLY skim all the readings, and highlight the heck out of the readings, it will help. Study a little bit, consistently, and you'll be fine. It's very interesting if you actually get into it.
Worst professor in my academic experience. I started my Political Science minor now that I am a senior, and this professor has been the worst, I much rather take difficult upper division classes than take another class with him. Try to avoid him if possible.
good class, kept it interesting
This is an easy grade if you put the work in. Don't think that because it is a 101 level course that it will be a breeze. There is a good amount of work that must be put into the course to get an A. I took good notes, did the readings, and studied intensely and got an A. Several papers must be turned in and there are 3 midterms (M/C and Essay).
EXTREMELY hard class. tests are close to impossible. lots of reading required. only upside is that graubart is a really cool guy, great professor, and knows everything. you feel smarter after class. big focus on israel and palestine, rest of the world almost ignored. if you're willing to put in a ton of work into one class, take graubart.
BEST professor i have ever had in my academic life!
great class, i took International relations and it was very revelant to current topics. tests are demanding, but the teacher gives u a study guide, focus on it, and study, very easy, short ansewr q's and a couple essay, but easy to write if u know ur stuff. great debater, liberal prof.
Looks like Art Garfunkel from Simon and Garfunkel. Which is AWSEOME. He is so funny and goofy and you can't help but love the guy. Great professor. Enjoy the class, but do the work.
He was awesome. His tests come straight off the reviews which come straight out of the notes/ book. breakout sections easy too. just study the week's reading questions. I even missed a few classes and still felt good about it. overall good teacher!
TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!! ONE OF MY FAVORITE TEACHERS EVER!! YOU NEED TO STUDY AND KEEP UP ON THE READINGS BUT ITS WORTH IT! ANSWERS FOR FINALS AND MIDTERMS COME STRAIGHT FROM THE STUDY GUIDES! YOU WONT REGRET THIS CLASS!
He is a goofy looking teacher but he gives all the information you need in lectures so you cant miss them... He gives out a study guide for everything that's going to be on the test which is really helpful. I enjoyed this class.
hard, but good if you are really interested in political science.
if you like political science you will love this class. he is a good teacher. everything comes straight from the lectures and reviews sheets he gives you. it really depends on what TA you get for your breakout session.
I thought that Dr. Graubart did a good job of teaching the material. If you do not attend the lectures then you cannot answer the essay questions so attendance is vital. If you go in during office hours he is always there and more than willing to clarify anything.
He made the class pretty interesting. There was a lot of reading involved, if you didn't go to lecture you would know anything for the midterm. The study guides have everything you need to know for the tests. But it really depends on the TA you get because they grade your stuff.
i took this class cuz i wanted a class that would be interesting/challenging. there are 2 midterms, 1 final. the important thing to be successful is to 1. SHOW UP to class & 2. GET INVOLVED in the readings. they are really interesting topics anyway. stay involved and you will get an A easily
This guy was a joke. I got a C in the class just because I couldn't stand going to lectures and listening to him. I love poli sci, but this class was ehhh.
HARD!!! Very tough class and very tough exams. 2 midterms and a final. Quizzes during discussion are easy-- only if you do the readings. And the readings are NECESSARY to pass! He always refers to the readings so do them!
Such a hard class. Graubart is very unhelpful and annoying. You HAVE to do the readings. TA's grading scales are all different so it's really annoying. Super paranoid about plagairism. DOn't take this teacher
He knows his stuff, he's really nice and his class is entertaining! The TA's suck (at least mine did) but he gives you the reading questions and the quizzes come straight off of that - you don't even have to read, just find the answers - and the study guides for the test are exactly what's on the test! Easy B, do a little extra work to get an A.
He's cool, but all that really matters is who you get for a TA. My TA seems to grade REALLY hard, yet, through the grapevine, other ones are really easy. He gives you everything you need for the tests, there is not surprise. Just hope for a good TA.
If you want an easy A, don't take this class. If you want to think hard about tough issues, take it. And Professor Graubart (rhymes with crowbar) is a really nice, easygoing guy.
Great teacher who really cares about his students. He takes his job seriously and intends for students to learn. He is hard but not impossible and he does this so the students are almost forced to learn. He addresses modern and past issued for a great mix. TAs cause problems not Graubart and that is the flaw of the class. Awesome teacher.
This guy is awesome! He teachers a very interesting class with varying perspectives of real world issues such as war in Iraq, and Civil Rights in America. Put in the work and walk out with an A and a new perspective on the history of the United States and our current international policies. I recommend this class and professor to all of my friends.
It was a hard class but I learned a lot. It was sometimes hard to understand what he was talking about but he always clarified things. I really enjoyed his class it was a lot of work but I promise it is worth it.
This is definitely not an easy class. He gives weekly reading questions that you should do for pop quizzes. He tries to make class interesting and sometimes succeeds. He definitely knows what he is talking about and makes it very clear what to expect on tests and essays. Overall good class if you're willing to put forth the effort.
WONDERFUL TEACHER! I enjoyed his class every bit. He outlines everything for you. There is a bit of reading involved, but if you do it you'll be fine. It was an easy A if you do the study guides & reading questions. He leaves his opinion out which is good because the class is about different perspectives. He knows his stuff. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED :)
Graubart rocks. Hes super funny and although the material can get dry at times he does a good job of keeping it pretty interesting. Lecture is not mandatory but I recommend going. Breakouts suck but what can you do, attendance is taken at those. Overall I really liked this class. Best advice: do the weekly reading!
This class is extremely difficult if you are not willing to time into the readings and the pop quiz questions. Attendance is mandatory especially in the break out sections where pop quizzes are given at random. You have at least 40 pages of reading each week along with in depth questions. I recieved a B in the class but worked extremly hard.
very very tough class. weekly quiz's with plenty of reading. he knows his stuff though
VERY hard and sometimes gets really boring. it is not an easy A that ppl say on here im an A student n didnt get an A.theres a lot of work thats not even worth it. for every test theres an essay and your grade depends on how much u took from the lecture and books. so reading the books n all the articles(about 20 of them)is a must. take it as CR/NCR
the best professor i've ever had... engage, read and you will learn more than you can imagine...
"Wow! Like; this course was sooo difikult. I can't beleeve that I have to reed 50 pages per week in a kollej cors at SDSU. He and TAs are jus tryn to make lyf tuff. If you think Graubart is too difficult you should not be in college.
The class was demanding but unlike many of my other classes I feel like I actually learned something in the class. The only downside of the class is all the reading but it's definitely worth it. Take this class if you want to actually learn something. Do the work and you will be fine. He is an extremely intelligent man.
This class requires some serious effort, mainly by keeping up with the readings. The material is quite interesting though, once you start seeing the big picture. Lectures are not mandatory but if you don't go, you won't understand the material very well (outlines are posted on BB but Prof G goes into greater detail).
This guy knows his stuff and has a passion for it. This class is really hard if you are a person who doesn't like to deeply analyze political views towards certain subjects. There is a lot of reading for this class and random pop quizzes based on them. 3 multiple choice/essay test determine the majority of your grade. Take this class with caution!
Get ready to read. Get ready to write. Get ready to rewrite. Get ready to be near total demoralization. He'll work with you but you need to put in 100% in this class. I passed by the Grace of God.
teacher sucked butt for not bumping up percentages. he doesnt curve at all, which sucks. tooo much reading. should of taken credit-no credit.
Graubart is an interesting one, that's for sure. If you're into political science, take him, it might interest you. If not, avoid him. I worked my ass off and went to almost every class and barely got a B. Read the material and take good notes.
Make sure you go to the lectures and take good notes. Graubart is a pretty nice guy. Also just skimming the readings is enough, you don't have to read the everything. Lastly the key to this class is the study guides he provides before the three tests. if you put effort into filling out the study guide then study it, you will do fine.
Class was easy until the final. Hardest final I heard of. Lectures aren't mandatory but help you know what he wants in essays.
Professor Graubart is a nice guy and he is helpful. The class however has an insane amount of reading and is very challenging. I do not recommend taking this course unless you absolutely have to or very certain that you are interested in International Law.
A lot of mandatory readings that show up in the form of pop quizzes. Three midterms comprised of multiple choice and essay. Some of this class was interesting, but most not. Would not recommend for people who are not already interested in Political Science.
Gruabart would be ok if he didn't talk. The lectures are boring and his shrilling voice makes it impossible to concentrate. He expects you to read like it's a 500 level course. However, the study guides are very fair and tell you exactly what will be on the test. (Essay tests)
Gaubart is the best lecturer at SDSU. His lectures are not mandatory but you SHOULD attend. They are both clear and beneficial for the exams. You will not pass your exams if you do not take good notes. Plenty of reading and I recommend buying the reader because the online readers aren't very good.
Really interesting class. It opened my eyes about a lot of stuff going on in the United States. Unfortunately, I barely did any of the readings and my small section leader was a ****. If you do the readings, you'll be fine.
The class itself is pretty hard...but the teacher is pretty easy. He just lectures and expects the students to know what's on the test with the help of the break out classes
He teaches like a high school teacher (ie. uses personas of important figures in history to teach... very interesting) The class was average... study, go to breakout classes, and you'll do fine!
Be ready to spend serious amount of time and effort in this class with quite a big amount of readings. Filling out the studying guide with a studying group is very helpful to be succeed in this class. It is not an easy class but interesting. You do need to process the information into your own words, otherwise you will forget everything.Good luck!
Study guides for each test which consists of multiple choice/short answer/long essay. Small section attendance is mandatory with quizzes. Lecture is a bore but is not mandatory. Keep up with readings and you'll do fine.
Actual professor was pretty nice and very informative. But... my breakout section TA was a total prude. Not only did she grade ridiculously hard, she also made it seem as if our life depended on doing the readings. She gave me a low participation grade even though I never missed a class and actively participated in discussion. Avoid TA Brit!
Horrible Teacher. I thought I would enjoy this class because I am into politics and movements but this class was pointless. It was like a history class on steroids and with a ridiculous amount of readings. Dont take this professor if you can't manage 60+ pages a week. My TA was hot but she was worthless too.
Politics is not my thing at all and this was a class i thought i would struggle with the most. But i ended up loving this class and can actually say I learned a lot. Yes its true, this class requires A LOT of reading and memorization for the midterms but all the readings are interesting and the midterms aren't that hard. P.S TAKE GREAT NOTES!
He's a pretty interesting character. Get used to "Guest speakers" and slow speaking. He does seem to know his stuff, and you learn a little more about history in that class. Just show up, take notes, do the readings, and PARTICIPATE IN CLASS! Overall a good guy though.
Seriously the worst class I have ever taken. I got an A in the class but never attended lecture. My TA was terrible, the outrbreak sections are mandatory but worthless. You have to read 100 pages a week just to keep up. Easy tests but you just feel like you are wasting your life away when you are attending class or studying for the tests.
Graubart was over a good guy but it ALL depends on your breakout teacher!!!!!! If you have a crappy small lecture teacher than you're screwed like I was. The large lecture is mandatory because it helps when you have to do the study guide. Take good notes and STUDY the study guide like CRAZY!!!
Really great teacher. The readings can get a bit boring, but his lectures are interesting. He gives out study guides for his midterm and the question are all identical!overall, really good teacher.
You will learn a lot in this class, if you go to lecture. Gives outline of notes to follow. Had 3 books and other readings throughout the semester. He selected certain pages, but they were not big books anyway. Fair in his presentation of differing viewpoints. A worthwhile class and a reasonable professor.
There's a lot of reading, although he is pretty easy and nice with the grading on exams and popquizes. The biggest issue with Graubart is that he's not very clear on his lectures. I found it hard to understand what he was talking about and he's not very fun to listen to, easy to fly away in daydreams... A bit special but overall a nice guy.
It is a challenging course but very interesting. You don't have to buy a lot of books because most of the readings he post on blackbroad. There are a quizzes and 2 exams. There is a lot of reading but expected from a 300 course class.
Wonderful professor and educational experience. If you are attending university for the education and not the generic "easy A" then take any class this professor teaches. By far the best experience I had at SDSU. If you are open to it, he will make you challenge ever preconceived view you had walking in the door. Wonderful professor.
Very interesting class. Prior to this class I had no clue about the problems talked about in this class. The subject material is super interesting and the guest lectures enhance the learning so much. He takes attendance and has random easy pop quizzes. Beware though he grades very hard on the essays, there is 3 of them.
Possibly the best professor I've had. Always there when you need him and answers all your questions via email. Can be a little awkward and at times not explain himself that much. But he's always there for office hours. He loves essays and research papers so be prepared, but he loves to go into controversial themes and questions that make you think.
He expects every student to be as educated as he is when is comes to anarchism/anti-imperialism. Assigns insane readings with no regard for our work load outside of his class. Extremely hard grader. I would have had a 4.0 if it weren't for his class. I would definitely try and avoid him. He rambles on lectures so you don't absorb the information.
Amazing prof.
I was really inspired when he voiced his support and sent his well wishes to Senator John McCain in light of his recent cancer diagnosis. I think we could learn a lot from his example. We need more compassionate professors like him.
Lacks empathy, compassion and basic human decency
Extremely Liberal, does not look at the big picture. Thinks that his ideas and beliefs are the only ones that matter. If you take his class don't disagree with him or you will find yourself on the outs
Very simple class! Three test and he gives you a study guide for each one. His lectures are not mandatory but are helpful! Overall easy class if you put in some work
Grades on mainly on 3 tests throughout the semester. There are weekly reading summaries due which are about a page or two that you turn in to your TA. This course is definitely reading heavy & make sure to attend lecture. Tests are easy if you study the review guide he gives you. He offers about 2-3 extra credit opportunities.
Graubart's class was awful unless you love lectures. Every class is lectures with notes. These are direct answers for the tests, in addition to the readings, but he speaks very fast. No electronics allowed, he calls you out on them. Readings are way too long to be done for each class. Tests are half short answer and half essay.
Graubart is extremely boring and dry. Lectures make you wanna fall asleep and gives tons of reading homework every week. Tests are ridiculously hard but he does give a study guide with the exact questions (mixed in with other questions that aren't on the test). So make sure you show up to class and study the study guides or just avoid him.
He is so passionate about pol sci!!! There are a lot of readings and reading summaries for small section but they are graded easy and have to only be a page! He gives hints to extra credit in hid lectures so go! He gives full study guide of test before which is half short answer half essay but you already have all the material!
Last sem his class was my favorite. He's very passionate about his work and it is reflected in his passion in getting you to participate. Understand the class is heavy reading, maybe 40-100 pages a week; don't stack with other heavy reading classes. Only 2 tests but the study guides help a ton. His Grad students tutor too.
Loved Graubart's class! Most interesting and participatory course in my political science career. He's so approachable & helpful. The class isn't easy but lectures are very engaging and the material is fascinating so if you're interested in intl. law and want to expand your poli sci knowledge I highly recommend! Wish I could take him again.
Prof Graubart is a passionate teacher and truly intelligent. I personally won't take him again cause I am not pursuing his area of expertise. I gave it an extra 5+ hours of studying/reading because there was a lot of reading assignments with reading questions. They definitely help stay on track and get ready for the upcoming tests and discussions.
This class consists of a weekly reading reflection (usually about 2 chapters). Three main units & 2 total tests and one paper. If you watch his lectures you will be fine! Great professor
Not gonna lie, this was the most difficult class I've taken yet. We read 3 whole books with an essay to match each book. Weekly reaction essays on top of assigned readings (separate from books). A simulated debate (easy). Lots to read but Graubart is very well organized and offers great feedback. Was a hard class, but was fun and I learned a lot.
Lots of readings in this class, one full book for each of the 3 sections of class plus supplemental readings. An essay to go along with each reading, but does allow one rewrite for either of the first 2 papers. Professor is very knowledgeable about the topics discussed and is passionate about the subjects.
The hardest part of this class was the writing (2-3 essays per sem) because it was difficult to understand what he was looking for, but he grades them fairly and offers assistance throughout the whole process. Other than that, the class was super interesting and he clearly cares a lot about the subject. Would definitely recommend this class!
Professor Graubart is truly admirable! If any of you have the chance to take him, I strongly advocate to do so.
Professor Graubart is truly admirable! If any of you have the chance to take him, I strongly advocate to do so.
Graubart is a interesting professor; he has a lot of background in Israel-Palestine relations, which will become a major part of your Final test. Your grade is split up into 3 tests, about 5-6 reading reactions (which are easy, but tedious), and participating in reading reaction groups. Take notes, review the slides, and read the required readings.
Professor Graubart is a great professor with strong knowledge of his craft but it seems as though he's slowed down a little bit at his older age, no offense. He speaks with a calm voice that is a little difficult to understand in the large lecture hall. 80% of the points are to the 3 tests so poor test takers beware. The small sections help a lot.
try to take this class with any other professor than with this guy if possible.
He is a great lecture giver and super passionate about the topics. Only bad thing about this class is that the tests are HARD. Make sure you use his reading guides, they are super helpful. Also there's not much homework so your grade relies on tests. Astrid was my small section instructor and they were amazing, great at preparing us for tests!
He assigned lots of reading, but he also provides a reading guide that tells you exactly what to take away from the readings. This is also generally what he will ask you about on the tests. The tests are almost all free response, sometimes he will give one or two multiple choice questions but usually free response. He lectures well.
Professor Graubart is not that engaging as he is extremely monotone. He is very well-versed in the topics he lectures about and is very passionate. Grade is pretty much made up of tests and tests are extremely hard. My section teacher was pretty terrible and made the experience worse.
The lectures are pretty pointless and hard to follow, however he posts the slides on canvas. There are a lot of readings, but you can just fill out the reading guides which cuts the reading time down a lot. Reading reactions are easy and lots of EC. For tests, remember all reading guide questions and also memorize the slides.
