Dr. Dennis is probably as good as it gets when it comes to biology teachers at FSU. He teaches very clearly and does his best to make sure everyone gets the information. Even though BIO is a tough subject,If you put effort into the course, you will pass. simple as that. Whatever you do STAY AWAY FROM DR. EPSTEIN!!
Dr.Dennis is such a great teacher! He really does try to help everyone out and he is extremely understanding. He will even let you turn in an assignment late. His exams can be a little difficult but if you go to class and do the hw you should be fine. He has a great personality and is very approachable. I highly recommend him!
Dr.Dennis is such a great teacher. He is very approachable and extremely understanding. He makes class interesting by doing a lot of visual demonstrations. His test can be a bit difficult but if you go to class and do the study guide you should be fine. There is online hw and some writing assignments but they arent difficult.I highly recommend him!
Dr. Dennis is such a great teacher! He loves the subject he teaches which makes it much more enjoyable. He is very thorough and will not put anything on a test that he doesn't go over in class. The concepts he goes over aren't that easy but he goes over them constantly which helps a lot. He is 100% worth taking!
He's a very cool teacher. The material is kind of hard and I found my self falling asleep a lot, but that's probably more because I had him at 8 am. If you want an A, then get him. He's a very nice person. I made an A, two B's and a C on his exams but somehow got an A minus for my final grade. An he gives a TON of extra credit iclicker points.
Dr. Dennis is an incredible teacher, but be prepared for a challenge. He tells you on the first day that the class is by no means easy. Subject matter is difficult but he reviews often. Tests are fill-in-the-blank and diagrams. Be ready to work hard for your grade.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Truly cares about his students. All of his tests are based off his notes. An A is definitely obtainable if you go to class and study. Take him. You'll learn a lot.
AWESOME teacher! Really great guy, cares a lot about his students. Tests aren't easy but if you go to class and study his notes online you'll do fine. I definitely recommend taking Dr. Dennis!
Dr. Dennis is the most amazing professor I've ever had. Not only does he actually care about his students but he's incredibly smart and humble. Go to his class, it's pretty much a gift, get there early to enjoy the music he selects to correspond to the lecture, and make study guides. He imparts the material in such a way that you will retain it all
AMAZING teacher and great guy. Really cares about his students and their grades. He is a genius and so kind.
Great teacher, and an amazing professor who cares about his students. An A is definitely possible as long as you put effort into studying and learn the concepts. Always willing to help because he really wants you to get the material. My favorite professor I've taken so far at FSU.
Best teacher I have had at FSU. Amazing teacher who cares about his students. His TAs are great too. A is easy with all of the tools his gives you, tests are straight from his notes. I wish I could take him for another class!
He is an AMAZING teacher! He is so clear and always makes the lectures relatable. His TAs are great as well, they go out of their way to help students succeed. I highly recommend his course.
Dr. Dennis is an amazing teacher! He cares so much about his students and he gives you all the tools you need to pass the class. His tests are fill in the blank and straight from his notes. If you put in effort for this class you will get an A without a doubt!! Take him!!
Dr. Dennis is really an amazing teacher! seriously! He's very smart and can break down the material so that a 5 year old can understand it! He reallyyyyyy cares about his students and wants you to get an A in his class! All you have to do is put in the effort and study you will make an A! He will turn B students into A students! Take him for Bio 1!
Dr. Dennis is both an amazing professor as well as person. He only wants the best for each and every one of his students and will help you in any way that he can. I would recommend him to anyone and would take him again in a second!
Super easy class, wants all of his students to succeed. Very passionate about teaching and biology so it makes going to class and learning the material more enjoyable. Test questions come straight from the notes word for word and he often gives big questions on the tests during class. Definitely recommend taking him over anyone else!
This guy is so adorable and smart! His tests are all fill in the blank with NO word bank and you have to draw diagrams so be prepared for lots of memorization. The tas give you a good study guide usually but it's important to go to class because he gives extra credit and worksheets that help explain things a lot better.
Dr. Dennis is such an amazing professor He really knows a lot and always brings in examples from current events to relate to what we are learning. He really cares about his students. Lectures are mandatory if you want a good understanding of the material. Exams can be hard since they are fill in the blank but if you study his notes you'll be fine!
Dr. Dennis is such an amazing professor! He is dedicated to helping students learn the material that will carry them on throughout their studies. His tests are fill sin the blank and they all come from his notes and he never throws in any tricky material. DON'T BUY THE BOOK! His tests come directly from his notes.
His tests are all fill in the blank that come directly from his notes and you have to draw intricate diagrams. DO NOT take him if you're not prepared to memorize a lot of information. He gives extra credit, but taking him at 8 am is so hard to wake up for. Overall hes a great guy and he wants you to learn, but fill in the blanks are difficult.
His tests are incredibly easy. He posts his lecture notes online and his test questions are fill in the blank statements copy and pasted from his notes. Technically you don't have to go to class to get an A on his tests, but he sometimes gives extra credit opportunities in class. He's an early riser, so his classes are usually at 8:00 AM.
amazing. Would take any class he teaches.
Dr Dennis is actually the most amazing professor in the entire world. Like this man is fantastic. He genuinely cares about his students and isnt here to fail you. Class isnt mandatory, but his tests are straight from the notes, so you should probs go brahhhh.
He is a great teacher, never condescending to your questions, and always handing out easy extra credit. However fill in the blank tests suck but they are easy to memorize if you put in the time. very linnet on HW and its just a great grade booster.
His class is really easy and his tests reflect his notes. He gives us questions on the exam which is very helpful. His notes are long and its best to study a little bit every day starting 2 weeks before the exam. If you do that, you will get an A on the exam. Best professor and i would take him again.
He is an amazing teacher who clearly loves what he teaches. His notes are very clear and he posts them online. Tests reflect the notes and there are a lot of notes so the tests cover a lot of material. But there is no reason you can't pass his class.
Let get right to it; Dr. Dennis is an OK teacher. Everyone says that his class is easy but it not. It's a pain in the neck trying to memorize between 3-5 chapters of notes for his tests. There's no point in going to lectures because he gave extra credit for going to class ONCE. The class seems harder that it should be; it's only a 2000 level class.
I had him last semester and this man is phenomenal. He's passionate about biology and knows what he is talking about. I learned a lot from him and his lectures even if I went to class occasionally. Unfortunately, his class was at 8am, which made me not really want to go all the time, but he's worth it.
He's a great teacher who knows exactly what he's talking about but his tests are never multiple choice, only fill in the blankchartsdrawings. Everything comes from his notes and powerpoints so going to class isn't mandatory but you will get lost otherwise.
TESTS ARE EXTREMELY HARD. Fill in the blank tests straight from the notes sounds easy but in reality it's very difficult. Learning 30 pages of notes word for word is tricky. Also, most of his tests don't even cover half the information in the notes. (Our unit 3 notes had several pages about photosynthesis, but no questions about it were on the exam
Tests come strictly from the notes; however, memorizing 20+ pages of notes can be a struggle. Going to class is essential, but he only has 8 AMs but he tries to make his lectures as engaging as possible. Just start studying a week in advance and his exams should be doable. Take him! You won't regret it- I promise!!
The only grades he has are 3 tests, and mastering bio hw which has no correlation to tests. no iClicker or quizzes. His tests are easy since they are fill in the blank and come directly from his notes, which he posts on blackboard. He's a very busy person so it's not that easy to get in contact with him, but he's super nice and respectful. Fav prof
Jonathan Dennis is the most amazing man I've ever met. He's incredibly passionate about biology. If you're in the major, and actually want to remember the information, take him. 8 am lectures but he's incredibly worth it. No one else can compare. He's the most perfect human being I've ever met. If I could take him again I would.
Dr. Dennis is a great professor! He gives you a lot of information to learn but it is worth it. His tests are directly from his notes and aren't too bad as long as you spend a good amount of time studying for them.
Amazing professor. Really passionate and got me excited about Biology. I would've gotten an A instead of an A- if I did the extra credit.
He is so nice and amazing as a professor and he really knows how to teach biology. HOWEVER, the tests are hard, not because of the material you're learning but because they are ONLY fill in the blank. His classes are at 8 AM and I didn't go to them often so I didn't do so well on the tests, or receive as much EC, but I got an A- in the end.
Dr. Dennis shows the depiction of what a true teacher does. That is by doing all you can to make students understand the learning material. I had him last semester, and I had no problem at all with his exams. They are fill-in-the-blank, but make sure to write down every single note from his lectures. That pretty much saved my grade for this class.
Clearly the best biology 1 teacher at FSU. I would highly recommend taking him. If he is not available your semester, wait to take biology till he is available. No way I would have passed biology without him. He is a great teacher and truly wants every student to succeed. One of my favorite teachers of all time. Lectures are interesting!!
Dennis is amazing and is one of my favorite profs. Bio is a dense class so there's a lot of material to learn but he makes it very accessible. While the tests are fill in the blank, they come word for word from the notes, so an A is more than doable, especially if you understand the content. Gives tons of EC as well. Wish I could take him again.
He is an amazing teacher! Truly understands the material and is passionate about teaching. There is a lot of material and the book is not needed. Just use his notes and you will be fine!!! In all, I am sad the class is over and I wish I could take him again.
Dr Dennis is the sweetest man in the world, he is very caring and sympathetic. He's always willing to work with students no matter what. His lectures are a little long but he is worth taking. Study the print out notes and you'll be fine. His final is super easy as well!
Dr. Dennis is truly a great professor. He is always willing to go the extra mile to help you understand the material. His tests are fill in the blank but they come verbatim from the notes. He gives TONS of extra credit. I highly recommend taking him, his lectures are 8 am but I skipped a few and still made an A in the class.
Dennis is very clear in his lectures and encourages questions when students are confused. His tests aren't too hard, but definitely study his PDF notes (the test is derived from these). If you're confused, attend his recitations. He also teaches the FIG course, so if his classes are full, try joining the FIG. Expect online homework weekly.
Dennis was one of the best professors I've ever had. He's a really cool guy and loves what he does. He explains things with great clarity and he doesn't think any question is a stupid questionhe's always more than happy to explain again. That being said, you also have to study. Tests come straight from his notes but you HAVE to study to get the A.
Dr. Dennis is so passionate about what he teaches and tries to make his lectures entertaining and fun. His tests were hard for me, because they're all about 80 questions that are solely fill in the blank, so don't do what I did and study throughout the semester and not last minute!!! This was before I changed my major.
Dennis was just great! His tests are mostly fill in the blank, straight from the notes. Gave multiple opportunities for extra credit. No curves were given for the exams. Would definitely take again!
Dennis is the best professor I have ever had. I truly feel blessed to have been in his class. He really cares about the material and his students. He is funny, engaging and very clear. Tests come straight from the notes and are fill in the blank. If you sit down & study the material, you will do fine. Take advantage of office hours and recitation!
This man is the reason that I love biology. After a chemistry/physics induced burnout, I didn't think I wanted to pursue a career in science anymore, but Dennis changed my mind. He is super caring and understanding, constantly enthusiastic (even at 8 am), and adorably dorky. Very clear on all his expectations and gives tons of EC, so go to class.
My favorite professor!
Professor Dennis is a great professor who cares about his students and their success. He gives many opportunities for extra credit. The homework assignments does not really relate to the material we learn in class, but Dennis is the first to agree. His tests are fair and if you pay attention in class you will do well.
By far my favorite professor at FSU. He cares so much about the subject and his students. Tests are fill in the blank from the notes so make sure you study. This class takes a lot of work but it is worth it, he made me love biology.
Dr. Dennis is a great professor one of the best Biology teachers at fsu. The problem with this class is that his test are NOT MULTIPLE CHOICE. Every test except the final is fill in the blank and the final is 50-100 questions and each question has 10 answers you can select from. The test do not represent who he is as a professor but be warned.
Professor Dennis is an amazing teacher and clearly knows his biology. However, when it comes to test, it doesn't matter how well you know the information because if it's not exactly as he said it in the notes, it won't be counted as correct. His tests are completely fill in the blank based on memory of his 20+ page notes per unit. Tough class.
One of the best professors here at FSU. I personally thought his tests were easy especially since he emphasizes what to study for during lecture. I also think going to recitation was worth it. overall, amazing professor. Take him if you get the chance.
One of the best professors I've had at FSU. He has such a strong passion for biology and truly wants his students to succeed. His test are reasonable and easy but you MUST STUDY! Don't expect to put in minimal effort and get the grade you want. Recitation and office hours are helpful. Take him!!
He is SUCH a sweet professor and so smart, you can really tell he's dedicated his life to biology. His exams can be tough, but all exam questions come from notes + lecture powerpoints. GO TO CLASS AND RECITATION. Its not mandatory but he gives extra credit in class sometimes. He always gives the extra credit answers in recitation, so definitely go.
Take him, he made me fall in love with biology. He is super corny and funny. He's no knowledge and is doing it for the love of the kids. The best biology teacher on campus without a doubt.
I took Dr. Dennis my first semester at FSU and taking his class taught me how to study properly for other classes. He is the most charismatic person I have ever met and he goes above and beyond to help his students succeed. 10/10 would always take him again.
Dr. Dennis is extremely knowledgable of Biology and science in general. If you are not a good test taker i would suggest not taking this class, but his exams were all multiple choice STRAIGHT FROM HIS NOTES. If anyone posts about them being hard, its probably because they didn't attend class or they didn't study properly. Peace Love and Biology.
Dr. Dennis is very knowledgeable and does a great job of explaining what is expected of his students. The tests are very easy considering they are fill in the blank directly from the notes. Recitation is pretty helpful, but no mandatory. He really cares about his students and is willing to work with you on most things.
Dennis is amazing he is very funny and his tests are not that hard. As long as you remember to do the homework your grade should be fine. All lecture power points are online along with the notes. His recitations are helpful and he gives a lot of extra credit.
Dr. Dennis is an amazing professor! He explains everything very clearly and is always willing to help and give extra credit. His tests are very hard "fill in the blank" and drawing molecules (like a steroid), however, they come directly from the notes which he uploads to blackboard!
Dr. Dennis is amazing. He is truly passionate about biology and makes even the boring things interesting. Attendance doesn't matter too much, but his lectures really help and sometimes he gives extra credit to those who go to class. All of his tests are fill in the blank straight from the notes, so just study his notes and go to class for an A
Dennis is a really good teacher and a really good guy. he defenitly knows what he's talking about but sometimes gets off track. first 3 tests were fill in the blank from the notes. they were pretty hard sometimes to remember sometimes since there was about 30 pages for each section and he doesn't give a study guide. his final this year was easy.
Dr. Dennis was an amazing teacher, the test are a little difficult because they are all fill in the blank however his test questions come directly from the notes he gives us. All of his powerpoint and notes are posted on black board and during recitation he usually gives you more of an explanation as to what will be on the exams. GO TO CLASS TO PAS
Dr. Dennis was an amazing professor. He only taught at 8:00 am which totally sucked but I was actually able to get up because I know how good of a professor he was and he made me want to learn.
Honestly the best professor I've had! Tests are difficult because they're fill in the blank but they come directly from his notes and going to recitation the night before the exam helps. Unit 2 is the hardest unit. He took attendance as extra credit maybe three times and has mastering bio forgiveness. Final was easy and I believe there was a curve.
The BEST professor at FSU. If you have the ability to take him, don't pass up the chance. He is the best professor I've ever been taught by. Also one of the nicest people I've ever met.
Im a senior and I HAVE to write about this man from freshman year. Truly a gem of the biology department. Straightforward, uplifting, and kind. He truly just wants everyone to learn and be scientists! He fully prepares you for exams & if I could take another class with him I would. Reason why I'm a bio major. Great lectures, no bs tests. TAKE HIM!!
Dr. Dennis is a great professor! He loves biology and really cares about his students. His tests were all fill in the blank. The tests did come from the notes; however, they were really hard and very specific. Homework and tests are the main contributors to your grade.
3 unit tests - 70 questions fill in the blank memorize the NOTES for tests 3 random attendances taken the whole semester lectures are entertaining - don't try to take your own notes, print his out and bring them to class for the best understanding You'll get an A if you only study the notes.
Take this class if youre able to. 3 tests, each 20% of your grade, come directly from his notes. Another 20% is MasteringBiology, and the last 20% is the final exam. Doesnt take attendance, but offers lots of extra credit for students that come to class. Study his notes and its an easy A.
He's an amazing professor. Provides a full word doc of all the notes for the entire class and takes his test questions directly off of it. Always tells you when fill in charts will be on the test, extra credit available quite often. The content is hard, you have to work for it, but he gives you every opportunity to pass. Wish he taught more classes
Very good professor, his lectures were very easy to understand and he reviewed anything that you don't understand. His class consists of three exams each 200 points, mastering biology which is 200 and the final another 200 points. the final is cumulative but he prepares you well for it. He also gave a bunch of extra credit. you have to study though
By far my favorite teacher at FSU. He is a very understanding and kind man. He is passionate about his work and his teaching. He does his very best to make a large lecture class seem small and inviting. I wish Dennis taught all of my classes. Though be sure to show up and listen well during notes.
Dr. Dennis is an amazing prof and will do anything in his power to help you do well in the class. He tells you exactly what will be on his exams. There is no reason to struggle in the class, he gives you TONS of extra credit and opportunities to do well. Dr. Dennis makes biology incredibly interesting and inspires you to want to learn.
Gives a lot of extra credit but you only get it by coming to class. Excellent professor and is passionate about teaching, exams come directly from notes so if all else fails just memorize the notes !! Would deff recommend
Tests are fill in the blank (except for the final) but its easy. You dont have to attend class because the notes are on canvas but if you check notes ahead of time & realize that day has a hard topic then go to class Hes really good in lecture. Then as long as you Study Study Study the notes he posts youll pass the tests! Some E.C each test
Amazing guy. Definitely my favorite professor at FSU. Does a great job teaching and is funny.
Dr Dennis is AMAZING! The class and material is hard but Dr. Dennis does anything to help you understand and truly learn the material. 3 tests and a final, so they are crucial. Study hard. Theyre all fill in the blanks and he prepares you really well if you study. Take advantage of resitation and office hours. Offers extra credit too! Take Dennis!
Jonathan Dennis has definitely been my absolute favorite professor. I am not a morning person at all but I still woke up to get to his 8 am lectures. He is such a reasonable professor and genuinely just wants the best for all fo his students. He gives many extra credit opportunities and is very clear about what you need to be successful.
I honestly considered dropping my bio major, but this Dr. Dennis inspired me not to. Dr. Dennis is very passionate about what he teaches which I found very inspirational. I found him to be very funny and overall entertaining, which definitely helped for the 8AM. If you are a student at FSU, take a class with this man. You will not regret it.
Dr. Dennis is the most amazing biology professor. His lectures keep you focused on the subject. He is very kind and funny. He wants you to succeed in his class. Go to every class, recitation, and office hours for extra help. Tests are easy if you study and read the notes. I would retake this class in a heartbeat. Will definitely miss this class.
Each class is super important to show up to or you may miss information and extra credit that will be on the tests. There are only 3 exams + the final + an online part making up your grade so make sure to study as much as you can and not last minute. He is super passionate about science and it shows through his lectures. Hardish class but study!
If ur a procrastinator dont take this course. Attendance is not taken & the notes/ppts are posted online so its hard to be motivated to attend class. Ur grade is composed of 3 exams & a final- roughly 80 questions w no word bank. There is rarely hw, but u must study the material often if u want to pass, its easy to feel like u have no work.
Very test heavy. The test's are fill in the blank no word bank, they come from his notes but the notes are long so if you can't memorize all the notes it is very challenging. Gives lots of extra credit. I had friends who were in easier BSC 2010 classes out there that give multiple choice tests. Final is matching and is EASY. Curves overall grade.
I cannot recommend him enough!! Dennis wants his students to succeed and does everything on his end to make that happen. He gives many opportunities to reach him outside of the classroom. He works hard to make the material understandable and won't move on until he feels it is clear. Do the extra credit and read his notes and you will be fine.
HE IS AMAZING! All his tests are fill in the blank and word for word come from his notes. he will do anything to help out a student. go to office hours and lectures and he will literally give you questions from the tests. i cannot recommend him enough. he cares more about students than any other prof i have had
I enjoyed Bio 1 with Dennis. The class is lecture heavy, so definitely show up. Also, if you go to class, he'll tell you exactly what's gonna be on the exams, including extra credit questions! I didn't read the textbook very much, if at all, and I still passed with a B+.
He is my favorite professor at FSU. He cares about his students and wants you to succeed. His lectures were interesting, and he tried to make the information applicable to our everyday lives. Tests are easy if you study his notes and had no trouble getting an A in the class. Great sense of music :') He is a gem... FSU, protect him at all costs.
Dr. Dennis is a phenomenal Bio 1 teacher!! He is so obviously passionate about what he teaches and goes on funny informative rants that don't make the lecture such a drag. He offers extra credit for every test (There is only 3 and they are fill in the blank but if you go to class and read the notes he posts they're cake) and is willing to help out!
Professor Dennis is AMAZING! When he teaches he makes you feel like he wants to be there. He cares about your success. 3 test and a finale. All fill in the blank, so study hard but it will pay off. Makes it where if you do good on 2/3 you will be successful in this class. YOU DO NOT NEED THE BOOK! Do the mastering homework before each class.
Dennis is a very outgoing professor that genuinely cares about his students. His tests are fill in the blank with no word bank, so this can be challenging. He also makes many things on his test from things he said in class, not necessarily in the notes.
The tests are all fill in the blank with no word bank. A lot of material to cover on your own, unless you are a good auditory learner in lectures. If you memorize the notes you will be successful on the tests.
This guy is really funny. He makes the lectures fun while also making sure we understand the material. There are plenty of ways to contact him despite the class size. There's only a few major tests that I found easy. Even though its a lecture he answers any questions. The only thing is the online homework is really annoying and time-consuming.
best professor ever. you'd make a HUGE mistake not taking him.
Absolutely the best professor I have ever had! If you can, definitely take bio with him. His lectures are interesting and make a lot of sense. He is very devoted to helping his students and is just a really good person overall!
This class is straight memorization. 3 exams and a final + online homework comprise your grade. Exam questions are fill in the blank with no word blank but come straight from the notes, so if you're good at memorization this class will be really easy for you. If not, there's definitely easier teachers. He gives lots of extra credit.
TAKE DENNIS FOR BIO 1!!!! Literally the best college professor I've had so far. Although class isn't mandatory, go. You will learn. Dennis is a really good teacher and will make sure you leave knowing it. He tells you everything you need to know for the exams and actually made me enjoy Biology. The nicest guy ever with such a passion for teaching.
Best prof I've had at FSU. He makes himself more than available and is willing to help any time. He really wants you to learn the material and is very passionate about the subject. The exams are fill in the blank verbatim from the notes. He also offers extra credit and gives you 100% on mastering homework if you did them all on time, TAKE HIS CLASS
im sophomore at fsu took dennis for bio 1 this fall semester, and he is by far my fav professor ever. extremely caring and will go out of his way to help you and make sure everyone understands the material. he is very lenient and understanding. posts his notes and powerpoints on canvas. 3 tests and 1 final. 3 unit tests are fill in the blank (1/2)
Such an amazing professor! So passionate about the subject & genuinely wants his students to do well. Offers so much extra credit. 3 tests & final that are fill in the blank word for word from his notes. Attendance isnt mandatory and his notes & PowerPoints are posted online. If you can memorize well its an easy A. Take him for Bio 1 if you can!
He really takes the time to make sure you understand what you are learning. Go to lectures he gives hints for tests which is extremely helpful. Recitation is also super convenient if you can't make his office hours. Online homework is easy just do it on time, tests aren't too bad but you do need to put in study time. Three extra credit assignments!
Dr. Jonathan Dennis is by FARR the best professor I have ever had. He is an incredible and caring professor and if it made any sense for me to take his class again I would. I will say, only take this class if you really want to learn because he is an amazing teacher and if you meet him halfway you will learn SO much.
He posts a PDF with all of the notes for the entire class, and the tests are exactly from those. Tests are around 100 questions and fill in the blank. Not too bad if you study the notes PDF he posts. He is also super understanding and nice, so definitely email him and go to office hours if you have any problems. He is super accommodating!!
I know a lot of people are going to be hating on Dr. Dennis because he doesn't post things on time, but those same people that party and leave things for the last moment. Overall, study his notes and understand the material and you should def get an A. His test come from his notes so that easy. People that don't like him simply don't understand bio
Dr. Dennis is by far the greatest Bio professor at FSU. While online he gives pre-recorded lectures and explains everything so clearly. If you are still confused you can attend his extra help sessions through zoom which are so helpful. He truly wants you to succeed. Grades are based off of lecture quizzes and tests.
Dr. Dennis is the best bio professor at FSU. You literally don't have to worry about your grade since his exams and quizzes come from the notes he provides. Therefore, just focus on learning and you will do fine. If your social life is more important than the minimum u can get is a B I think since it's easy and anything lower means... well u know.
Easiest A ever. All tests and quizzes are based off the course notes (which he has on canvas so you can print them out and annotate). Since everything was online bc of COVID, I'd say the tests were way easier if it was in-person.
Easiest class ever but Hes supper unorganized though. The quizzes are cake just refer to the notes. The Exams are pretty easy too. Ended with an A. Take him!
Test questions came directly from the quizzes after each chapter. Do those and you'll be great.
One of the easiest classes I've taken at FSU. The exam questions come directly from his notes and lecture quizzes. He was not the most organized/ not great at answering emails. But I put minimal effort into this class and still got an A. Def recommend.
He's great! Although this year he was way more focused on his own research projects, our class took the back seat to this. I think he felt bad since there were times we would have a test after the last lecture was posted a few days prior. However, if you study the notes really well and pay attention to the diagrams in the powerpoints you'll be good
At first I was excited to have Dr. Dennis, but I was disappointed because he was not the best at online teaching. He did not follow a consistent upload schedule for lectures which made it difficult to study for quizzes and tests. In person I've heard he is a great instructor but if you take him online expect to teach yourself most of the material.
JD is one of the sweetest people youll meet. He truly cares about his student. Test were pretty straight forward from the notes .
He is a great professor and during the pandemic he was very understanding. His lectures are very entertaining and easy to understand. His tests were exactly like his notes in class!
Dr. Dennis did an amazing job teaching this very high level course. He made very difficult topics easy to understand, and all of the experiments were relevant and useful in the real world of science.
You really are basically just self teaching yourself in this course. You must memorize his notes (which are a lot) EXACTLY to do well on the exams. HW didn't start until halfway through the semester and was a joke. He's very disorganized but its honestly entertaining lol. All FITB tests which isn't easy. All i can say is STUDY STUDY STUDY!!
Dr. Dennis truly made me enjoy going to class and learning about Biology. After taking the first test it weirdly make him like going to class more. Going to class is beneficial because he highlights what will be on the test. He also kind of looks like Cody Ko and has a good sense of humor. Terrible at answering emails but overall a phenomenal prof
I am in BSC 2010 and I kid you not, Professor Dennis is the sweetest man. He is a great professor. He is SO understanding and caring. The best advice for this class is studying his notes word for word!! That IS the test. Also recitation is very helpful! I advise to study at least a week prior because the info can get heavy.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS!!!! His tests do not reflect the work you put in studying for them at all and are not a fair reflection of his course. I thought he was gonna be great after reading his reviews, but this semester he was truly horrible. He claims his tests are his notes verbatim but only 70% of the test is. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!
Dennis is a funny guy and a great lecturer! He has very fair exams and offers a few extra credit opportunities. Exams are mostly FITBL, but his online notes tell you all you need to know. Don't take this class (or any class for that matter) if you're like the person who posted the last negative review -- someone who is looking for a handout.
Went into this class knowing nothing about bio and ended up w/ a 95 in the class. Bio isn't an easy subject but he explains things in a way that's easy to understand. He really cares about us actually understanding how things work, it's not just about memorizing. Exams are easy if you study, and he tells you exactly what u need to know to do well.
Love him as a person, but I was a bit disappointed; I expected more based on reviews. I was told studying the notes exactly would guarantee good test grades but I got a C on 2/3 exams, and I was attending reviews and studying a lot. If you are prepared to study hard then it is worth it. Overall he's a cool guy and really just wants people to learn
Dr. Dennis is truly the coolest guy! Exams are DIRECTLY from the notes, he literally takes a bullet point from the notes, takes out a word and you fill it in. Best way to study is ANKI and put the bullet points in there. So far I've made a B on every single exam. Exam diagrams all come DIRECTLY from LA Assignments.
Professor Dennis is great! Bio is not an easy subject so do not expect this to be an easy class, but he gives you everything you need to be successful. He gives you notes and the tests are verbatim FITB. The tests are on a lot of material so don't wait until two days before the exam to start studying, start at-least a week in advance. Recommend!
DO NOT TAKE DENNIS IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN EASY A, The tests are not hard, but I definitely spent way to much time studying for the tests considering the grades I received. Fill in the Blank tests, No word bank. They are not hard the same way a math test is hard, but you really don't know when you know enough are not. Don't memorize words.
Professor Dennis is as good as it gets when it comes to knowing how to teach material to students. His lectures are very easy to understand and have more of a conversational feel to them. The exams are straightforward and fair, and the homework required throughout the term is easily doable.
GREAT TEACHER. So understanding if you are sick or have personal problems going on and makes content easy to understand. Even asks you on the final if anything throughout the semester threw off one of your test grades. The tests are difficult as it's fill in the black with no word bank. I watched lecture videos outside of class to understand it.
I like Dr. Dennis as person but he lectures as if hes reviewing the information. Maybe its because hes been teaching the subject for so long? Without tutoring I probably wouldnt understand the information. The tests are FITB with no word bank based on 20+ pages of notes so get ready to study, hard. If you put in the work, youll get an A!
Literally the best professor I ever had at FSU. If you attend class and go to recitations you will do amazing in the class. And for tests just study the notes he gives you and you will get an A. He truly wants to see his students succeed and hes so understanding!!
Professor Dennis was a super caring and considerate guy. Don't get me wrong, the class itself was a lot of studying (the tests were word for word from the notes) but if you studied well you would definitely get at least a B on the exams. You have to put in time and effort but the information is useful for your future classes. Would def take him!!!
Professor Dennis was a great professor. He really made me enjoy the class and I really enjoyed learning the content of the class. His exams are heavily weighted but the questions are fill in the blank directly from his notes so if you really study the notes you will do well.
Dr. Dennis was a great professor who was extremely caring. He really cared about his students, especially when it comes to them passing his class and personal issues. To me, this class was extremely easy. All you have to do is study his notes! His exams are literally verbatim his notes. As a freshman, I was nervous about his class but I passed!
Amazing professor. Honestly a super easy class. Tests come word for word from the notes that he posts on canvas. Very kind, respectful, and funny. Definitely try to get Bio 1 with him.
Study the material & you will pass the class. Dennis is very understanding and he is willing to help, but you have to speak to him. His 4 exams are fill in the blank. But it's not too difficult if you memorize the notes (use Quizlet). He gives extra credit and a few LA assignments (not hard). I have horrible study habits and still finished with a B
Dr. Dennis was one of my best professors for the Fall 2021 semester. You do need to study heavily for his exams, but everything you need to know is from the notes that he gives you. You do not need to read the textbook and he provides plenty of extra credit assignments
Here is Denniss class: 3 exams that are all FILL IN THE BLANK, no word bank, spelling counts + 1 final exam, MC. He uses his overly specific notes to make exams. He graded exams 2&3 the day before finals week. Very unorganized and doesnt know how to use Canvas. Wont respond to emails. AGAIN: Exams are FITB, no word bank; take at your own risk
These reviews are too generous. I did well in this class, but the stress this man puts his students through is ridiculous. Too much material per test. I rather more tests that are more focused. You need to study like your life depends on it or else you won't do well. Good luck.
Best teacher/professor I've ever had, I hated biology before him and never did well. I finished with a 96 in the class. Your grade is just how much work you put in. He wants you to get an A more than anyone else. He gives you an outline of whats on the test.
His lectures are great and if you go to his extra class time, the class is very manageable. his tests are always fill in the blank, so if you don't know the material, you will not do well on the test, which is the majority of the grade.
I sing Dr. Dennis' praise to anyone who will listen. You can really tell he wants his students to understand the material and succeed in his course, he takes time to make sure everybody is understanding everything before going on. You can also tell how passionate he is about biology, which makes the class engaging and genuinely fun.
Yes this professor is absolutely one of the nicest teachers you could have, but this class made me want to cry all the time. There is no homework, no quizzes, no study guide. There are three exams that are fill in the blank NO WORD BANK this class is pure memorization. If you're looking for a Bio class to help you learn it is not this class.
The class is information heavy but if you understand, remember and infer from general principles easily, you'll be more than fine. I'd recommend studying/learning by yourself since the lectures are kind of dense. The notes are detailed but the tests aren't specific and Dr. Dennis is a super cool guy.
Amazing when you need help or have any questions. There is a looot of content to study for tests but they are all on the notes.
Professor Dennis is by far one of the best professors on the planet. He gives numerous extra credits that are enough to change your grade pretty substantially. Yes, his tests are fill-in-the-blank but they are derived word for word from his notes and as long as you actually put time and effort in you can pass with an A no problem. I
You have to really pay attention to lectures and his notes because the tests are derived from the notes word for word. It is a memorization based class and it is kinda difficult, but he is a really caring professor.
Dr.Dennis's class is challenging. The tests are long, fill in the blank with no word bank, and you have to STUDY. However, he is an incredible professor. He cares about his students and he offers a great amount of extra credit. You can tell he is passionate about biology, and it makes the class interesting. 10/10 one of FSU's best.
Grade is 3 tests (fill in the blank from his notes) + cumulative final and lecture worksheets. He gives enough xc to boost you an entire letter grade. Study along the way rather than cramming. Definitely attend lectures AND recitation if you struggle in large lectures. Dennis is a sweet man who really cares and is super intelligent, love him.
Professor Dennis is a very caring man and truly has a great passion for teaching his students. The exams are challenging but you will pass the class due to many opportunities to raise your grade. He provides lots of extra credit to save your grade. Make sure you go to class so you can complete your LA classworks which is another huge grade booster.
All of his tests are test heavy so be prepared to study a lot and do 200+ quizlets. He's a really caring professor though he gives a lot of extra credit and I ended up with an A- after a C all semester from doing them.
This class is super hard, puts too much stress on students
Dr. Dennis is very passionate about biology and he cares a lot about his students. Yes, his tests are fill in the blank style but I highly recommend using quizlet to study for them. Dr. Dennis offers a lot of extra credit and he let us do test corrections on one of his exams. You will do fine if you study and go to class.
The way the class is set up is kind of tough due to your grade being based mostly on the 4 tests you take. Other than that he is a great teacher, and his lectures are great. He also is a very caring person so if you show that you want to pass he will do his best to help you. Great teacher!
Professor Dennis is definitely a professor who cares for his students. His tests are difficult, but if you study straight from his notes you will do fine. Definitely try and attend recitations and lectures as much as possible. Overall, Professor Dennis is a great professor and knew how to keep the class interesting and fun!
Great guy with engaging lectures. Make sure you invest time in the exams; they are easy if you study. You can't just wing them because it's just a grammar quiz from his notes. If you do poorly he does offer a bunch of extra credit + lets you retake poor exams for partial credit. Overall really nice and generous guy.
Professor Dennis was amazing. He is a very caring professor and truly wants his students to succeed. His tests are most of your grade, but if you put in the time and effort to study you will do just fine. They are fill in the blank so study his notes word for word. Make sure to attend class and complete the LA worksheets to boost your grade
Excellent professor really cares about his students, test are extremely broad but he gives all of the necessary tools to be successful. Grade consist of 3 exams, a cumulative final, and attendance/LA worksheets. Attendance is mandatory but his lectures are really helpful, and his recitations are taught by him not a TA.
Just take this course and apply yourself, other than my class going from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM I don't think there is anything negative any of the students in my class would have to say about PCB4022C or Professor Dennis himself. He makes class material interesting, unstressful and even enjoyable, all he wants is for his students is to learn...
Dr. Dennis was an amazing professor when I took him in the fall. While his tests are fill-in-the-blank which makes them difficult, he gets a lot of his questions for them from his LA sheets that you do throughout class. Also, he gives you a generous amount of EC. Went from an 88 B+ to a 101 A at the end of the semester.
Dr. Dennis was one of my first and best professors at FSU. He had a very flexible teaching style for different learners and set me very well for studying methods later on in my college career, learning what works for me. Plus he's a really great guy! Incredibly inspiring.
Professor Dennis was amazing! His class is hard, but if you study quizlets made by other students and come to class, you'll pass.
BEST TEACHER EVER. He offers 7 extra credit assignments that can bring your grade up a whole letter grade. The exams are around 70 questions fill in the blank which sounds scary but trust me it is the best thing and I wish every class did this because it is WORD FOR WORD from his notes. All you have to do is memorize it
Dr. Dennis is a wonderful professor with a great sense of humor and care for his students. This course is a point system with 3 exams, a final exam, extra credit, and worksheets. I think anyone who attends the lectures and does the extra credit will have no problem getting an A. I hope to take his course in the future.
Dr. Dennis is a wonderful, caring, and passionate professor. He doesn't drop grades or curves but he gives a generous amount of extra credit, assigns classwork that you can usually take home to complete, and bases his exams on the notes that are posted on canvas. If you don't slack off, getting an A should be easy.
Engaging bio class, attendence not mandatory but recommended. Teacher explains well and is very understanding. Uses class notes instead of a textbook. Offers lots of extra credit. Unit tests are fill in blank but are key terms from notes. Final is m/c. In-class ws basically free pts. Welcomes questions, plays music. Fantastic teaching!
BSC2010 with Dr. Dennis is a lecture heavy class, but he does try to make it engaging for students. His test questions are drawn directly (like word for word) from the notes, which he posts. He offers a ton of extra credit, some are extra questions on a test or separate extra credit assignments. He's a really funny guy, highly recommend.
Lots of content given in lecture. Tests come straight out of the notes he posts. Lots of extra credit given to the point where an A is easily obtainable.
Great teacher, put the work in and it's easy to succeed.
Genuinly learned in this class and lectures were fun and entertaining but be ready for alot of studying as the tests are quite hard.
Dr. Dennis cares a lot about his students. He will go back and review anything that you want to help you understand. His lectures are very enthusiastic and entertaining. He made biology fascinating to me. He's great at explaining the concepts and is very cool and will teach you lots of fun things about science.
Dr. Dennis is a chill professor who you can tell cares about his students' success. He doesn't mind repeating content if it is too confusing but don't listen too hard to what he says because sometimes he overcomplicates them. Your grade is derived from 23 handouts he gives the answers for, three fill-in-the-blank exams, and a cumulative final.
Very possible to get an A in this class. It isn't easy though you really need to study hard to get the grade you want in this class. He offers extra credit that will boost you a whole letter grade as well.
he loves biology so much that is makes it easy to want to pay attention to lectures, you have to go to class to do in class work for attendance credit (completion) but I would recommend it because it helps for the tests. final is MC but other 3 exams are fill in the blank which sounds scary but if you put in the work its doable (look for quizlets)
I couldn't recommend Dr.Dennis more. Not only does he clearly love teaching, but he demonstrates a passion for biology regardless of how many times he reviews his subject matter. I also highly recommend attending office hours if able. He never belittles any questions and treats them all with evenly wonderful explanations.
Genuinely the best teacher I have ever had at FSU. I was actually excited to go to class. He made everyone participate as a whole class with call and response questions which I found very helpful. You barely had to study for exams because he made the class so well prepared. I wish he taught more classes so I could have him again.
One of the most engaging professors I've had. He makes biology come alive with interactive lectures and generous extra credit. Unstuck ai was a game-changer for acing the exams.
An amazing professor who genuinely cares about his students learning and understanding the material rather than just passing. The class material is difficult but he does his best to make sure that each and every student doesn't fall behind and will succeed.
He is one of the nicest teachers I've ever had. He genuinely cares about his students and wants to them to enjoy learning bio, not just simply passing exams. I could not recommend him more.
Dr. Dennis is very knowledgeable, funny, willing to reexplain things 1000 different times, and he's obsessed with music which I feel adds cool points. If you study well (annotate his notes he gives during lecture, highlight/make quizlets after class, don't just read notes before tests actually quiz yourself) you should 100% get an A.
He is a really great teacher, however all tests are fill in the blank so be prepared for 80 question fill in the blank on paper tests! Very test heavy grade, there is 1000 points in your grade and 800 of them are exams !!!
Dr. Dennis is one of the best bio profs I've come across. as someone who HATES n can never get science, his teaching style n tests were surprisingly manageable. He puts a lot of effort into making sure u understand the content. tests r all fill in the blank, he literally tells u which pics u need to draw n the words u need to know.
The entire course grade consists of 3 exams, a final, and classwork (which he gives the answers to). He provides his class notes for the entire semester and makes his exams from it. The exams are fill-in-the-blank, but they're straight forward. There are a ton of extra credit opportunities given (including on each exam). Use quizlet for this class!
Very knowledgeable, he explains the units in a lot of detail so it is important to listen closely. Posts all notes and slide shows used. 3 exams, fill in the blank. Questions come straight from the notes and papers that he hands out in class. Papers are easy points! Grading is done /1000 points, plus extra credit which can be a full letter boost!
He enjoys this subject and it shows in his teaching. He makes it very clear what will be on the tests. You will have to spend time studying as his tests are close to 100 fill in the blank questions with no word bank. But if you pay attention in class and study his notes you will do well. He gives extra credit too. 100% recommend.
Dr. Dennis was a very knowledgeable professor, but I will not lie, this class was very hard. Look for quizlets for the test, as they are all fill in the blank except for the final. He knew what he was talking about, but for me, it was a bit hard to follow most of the time, so a lot of outside studying was needed.
Dr. Dennis is incredible, I wish I could take him for every science. This class is hard and you will have to work hard, but your scores will reflect that--it won't be a wasted effort. Dr. Dennis's teaching style is great. I highly recommend taking advantage of recitation and the worksheets he provides for studying. Don't skip ANY extra credit!!!!
Dr.Dennis is amazing! The tests are fill in the blank, while that sounds bad, it basically means its just memorization to a certain point. LA's give out a quizlet for each test and if you do that and review the notes on canvas, you will get an A. Also, LOTS of extra credit, do them all if you can. Mandatory attendance, up to 3 missed with no issue.
Best teacher I have ever had. Ever. This man is so kind, thoughtful, and relatable, he is very knowledgeable, and he is creating positive change in and outside of the classroom. Super smart, and I learned so much from taking his course. If you ever have the chance to learn from him, take it.
If you can take a class by him, do it! He made class so much fun and him and the TA's are always there to help with anything. Lots of extra credit. 3 tests that are fill in the blank with no word bank. He also assigns class work that counts as your attendance. Class is very easy if you just take the time to study, the worksheets come in handy!
Please take advantage of the extra credit!!!!! It helps immensely, especially towards the end of the semester. The exams can be difficult because they are fill-in-the-blank, so you should focus on using memorization techniques. The final is multiple choice, though, so be aware of the concepts you're learning.
Highly recommend Professor Dennis! He made Bio I genuinely so fun. Attendance isn't mandatory but there are worksheets that count for part of your grade. Tests were super easy and he's extremely accommodating. He posts slides for each unit, and the entirety of his notes are posted on the Canvas page. I would 100% take him again!!
