Great teacher!!! I wish he could teach more classes. Although you do have to write 1 or more papers depending on which class so if you dont like to write you should possibly take someone else.
the papers can be pretty tough, but he's funny and doesn't take himself seriously. you will learn a lot about politics.
He grades kind of randomly, not too bad though.
essays are based solely on content and he grades them very liberally. he's very willing to deal with those who are unknowladgable about politics in general if you just ask a question. his british accent makes the class fun.
Very cool guy, he is interesting and gives exelents lectures
Don't take his class for honors! He makes you write a 900 word essay every week. All you do is listen to him preach about what's current in the Senate and you learn nothing. So when the test comes around, you fail. He's a horrible professor and avoid him!

Great guy, very easy going environment. His grading is a bit inconsistant, but not too bad. Be prepared to write a lot and work for your grade. Stick with him and you'll learn a lot.
I took this as an online class. Everything was clear in what he expected and he was very helpful with people's questions. We had to write an 8-10 page paper, but it wasn't too bad and not too painful. Good teacher for an online class.
Great professor! Learned more than in any other class. You have to work hard, but you'll get so much out of it. My other classes are so easy now because we learned so much in his that we use everyday. He's funny and very entertaining. Puts notes online.
This class was awesome. I enjoyed the material and thought it was well presented. The grading was very fair. If you go to class and pay attention, you will do well.
Knuckey is the best political science teacher at UCF. Third class with him, always fair, very smart and funny.
I did not like the class, thought it was very much like voting and elections and his lectureas are so boring. However if you read you can do well on the test and get a good grade
I'm in his govt. honors class and there are NOT 900-word essays every week. the tests are tricky, 5 true/false questions with justification of your t/f answer and one essay. i am learning a lot; he is funny and welcomes debates between students.
Southern Politics with Knuckey is pretty good overall. His British accent would be entertaining even if his lectures weren't insightful and humorous, which they always are. Learned a lot. He does assign long papers and takes his time giving them back.
The best political science professor there is. I've taken every class he teaches. Be prepared to write a lot, but just do your work and you'll be fine. Nothing you can't handle.
I took Southern Politics with him and although the papers were the most difficult part of the class, the rest of the class is very easy going and you learn a lot about the material.
Second time having him and he is still the best! Will always help you if you ask and is always willing to modify to your situations regarding life outside school.
Loved goin to class, it was always interesting and entertaining. Loved the English accent and dry British humor. Cant wait to take another class with him. Tests are not hard if you review a little and papers aren't too bad either. He gets 2 thumbs up!
his lectures were really fun. not what i expected in a government class. lots of interesting debates. he doesnt try to force his views on anyone. encourages you to have your own opinion.
Great Southern Politics teacher, passionate about the material. Amazing lecturer (with and w/out powerpoint). I would happily take him again.
Very cool having an English soccer buff teaching American Government. Very funny, intelligent guy who actually makes the class interesting. Attendance is important.
Extremely helpful professor.Lectures are interesting and easy to understand.Highly recommend Knuckey!Test are not too bad if you study!!!
Good stuff. He makes every effort to help you succeed. As long as you make an effort and allow him to help you, you'll do very well. Nice guy, makes you feel at ease. You do have to write quite a bit, but he's a fair grader.
Great professor, I learnt a lot from the class. Tests were multiple choice and essay and were not bad....if you study!
this class is awesome!! and the teacher is great as long as you study
Very Clear in that what he puts in the notes is on the test. Makes the class fun. He always makes class interesting. Nobody should do poorly in his class.
Take this class! He is so sweet, pretty funny, not hard at all, and you don't really need to read the book. He is also very good about special circumstances with your personal life. It is an interesting class as well.
Awesome! Interesting having a British prof for American Government, really knows his stuff. Great discussions, sometimes plays devil's advocate which keeps discussions going really well, very thought provoking. Easy assignments, tests easy if you study. Requires essays but gives good feedback.
Good, quality teacher. He grades based on essays and multiple choice questions. He is a tough essay grader. Not the easiest class but makes you interested in American politics. Funny too. Reading the book isn't really necessary since all his testing material comes from his lectures.
Dr. Knuckey teaches well. He has interesting lectures, and he encourages discussion in class by raising relevant questions. To remain fair, he rarely takes sides discussing anything. I would recommend him.
I took his class last spring...It's the best class I've taken (up there with Con Law but it's different)He is an amazing professor. I didn't have a single boring moment. I looked forward to Southern Politics. It's such anexperience. Knuckey should teach more courses. He knows lots, very fair grader.
Three words: This guy ROCKS!!! I have never had a more interesting and engaging class or professor! I actually look forward to going to his class above any others. Not a boring moment, and the time just seems to go by too quickly. If you can, take this class!
I was so not interested in this class b4 taking it but knuckey definetly made this class really interesting. He is really clear and is a real livey professor. His tests kinda suck bc they're just 1 essay question but he's really good at explaining things. Take him, u wont fall asleep in class again!
Really interesting class!
Probably one of the best professors I've ever taken. It's not an easy A, but it is an easy B. I got an A, but you have to keep up on the reading, and you must show up to class. If you can keep yourself from slacking off then this is an easy boost to your GPA. Tests are 1 essay, so create an outline.
a british guy teaching american government? sounds odd, but he makes it work! he's intelligent, funny, and the tests are very fair. go to class and take notes, and you'll be fine. the reviews are word for word, pretty much, from the notes, as he is really organized. take him if you can! :)
Quite a lot of reading and exams are not easy, but it is such an interesting class. Learnt more in four weeks than I have from most other poli sci. class put together. You wil have to work hard for an A.
Online class, a lot of assignments. Not too hard as long as you keep up with the work and read the chapters. Tests are pretty easy.
Great teacher. Keeps class interesting and is very knowledgeable. He relies on essays and short answer questions for tests. If you go to class, read at least some of the book, and study, you'll do fine. I highly recommend this guy.
Hey is hard! But he is a great teacher learn so much! You need the book need to keep up on the reading and go to class everyday! Take very good notes will be helpful on Exam they are all Essay.
be prepared going into this class...it is the departmental exit requirement for the major...dr. knuckey is a great professor, rather helpful, clear and concise...he teaches this class online which usually works to your advantage in terms of flexibility...2 tests that do not seem that difficult, a host of assignments, and a final paper round it out.
It's an exit requirement for the department. Not an easy subject to teach online and he doesn't seem to care as much about this class as he did for Southern Politics. Lots of work in this class, and as long as you hand everything in on time it's not a difficult class.
Made a rare book required reading when it wouldn't be availible untill after the paper was due.
Really interesting and informative class and professor. I think the last post about one of the books assigned in very unfair. Dr. Knuckey has gone out of his way to help us and the book is available if you look.
Attendance Nazi who reads powerpoint slides to you. Very clear as to expectations but very subjective grading. Does not award A's lightly. Assigned paper on an unavailable book. If your late you might as well not show up it just pisses him off. Take something else its not worth the hassle.
I believe this prof is a fine example of a grade "A" @$#! Seems to be paranoid, negatively critical, & condescending in his interactions with students. Maybe he believes that he has to rid the world of nonconformists to his cause. Who knows? But I do know I expect at least as much respect as I give, & he gave none. I won't be taking him again!!
I took him for American Government and enjoyed his class very much. When I took Southern Politics, I enjoyed class too but not when I received my tests graded. Knuckey makes class very interesting but he is a hard teacher (especially tough on his essay tests). He requires you to read a lot although you don't have to. Attendence is mandatory.
Awesome professor. Makes class interesting/funny. Requires a lot of reading & takes attendance. Tests are straight forward from notes and in-class material. Attend class to take good notes..will be an asset on your tests and final.
a very unique class and professor. he does demand a lot out of his students, but he is willing to help you if you need it. his lectures are interesting and you really do learn a lot by the time the semester is over. great professor
The Class is interesting but the tests are a killer, you will not get a good grade unless you cow-tow to his superior intellectual ability and agree with his points. During class discussions students have contradicted his statements only to have him become argumentative and quickly change the subject.
What a JERk!! Went to see him twice for help on his online course, and did nothing to assist. have a 3.6 and recieved an "F" in this course. You think you do great on test until you get your grade back! avoid taking online/ maybe face 2 face better
Dr. Knuckey is easily the best professor at UCF, but know this: HE WILL CHALLENGE YOU. I left his course with a real understanding of the subject, though the grade did not come easy. He is a stickler for attendance, but even if he wasn't, I would recommend going as one absence will throw you off the material completely. HIGHLY RECOMENDED!
very intelligent, intimidating man. will walk all over you if you show weakness. the most i have ever learned in a class, but my grade doesnt reflect it (c). prepare to work VERY hard just to pass. DO NOT expect an A on anything, even if you know the material 100%. I would still suggest taking him if you are interested in politics.
Dr. Knuckey really makes this an interesting class to take on-line. But you do have to keep up with assignment deadlines and do the reading that is required. If you like web-based classes this is a very organized class and you can do well if you keep up to date.
Took it online. Tests are tedious but passable, A LOT of reading. Grades the 2 essays you have to write VERY harshly. I did learn a lot though. The essays topic were also not very inventive, didn't leave a lot of room for creative answers.
Dr. Knuckey is tough. I had him for two grad courses and I got A's in both. Then I chose him for my thesis director. Yeah, he is tough and he will kick your ass. But that is why I stuck with him and I'm a better man for it. Thanks for expecting so much from me.
Very hard class with this professor. He teaches with a MIcrCase program and he does not apply it to the exams. The material is very confused as well as the book he uses. He tells you you are doing okey and at the end he is not telling you th etruth. Never explain the way he grades. I really took him because of this website and it th eworse professo
Is the most difficult class to take at UCF and the professor made it worse. I study and work hard for this class and my grade do not reflect what I learned. The tests are not based in the book and program he uses and really confuse you.
He's very helpful and personable. Willing to help any student who puts forth the effort. The tests aren't bad and he gives lots of hints as to what the topics will be. Looking for details most of the time and a simple guess won't earn much credit. The paper is pain but not bad spread out over a semester.
One of the hardest Poli Sci classes and do not take it online! His tests do not follow the modules from the book and the final paper kills your grade. He's there to help, if you go into his office, but doesn't give outright instructions for most things. Do every module and spend as much time as possible to get it right.
I took this professor for southern politics and loved the class. Research methods is a whole other story. I hate the class and the professor is making it worse. He contradicts himself and is just down right mean if you do not get things right. Avoid this class with him!!!! Avoid taking it on-line even more!!!
Doo your self a favor do not take this professor. He confused you and make easy things harder. He is lazy, goes to appoinments late, and preteneded that he is helping you when he reallyis helping himself. No even try his class on line is even worse.
very very difficult tests. this class seriously made me change my major. if you decide to take it with him i would strongly suggest you do every single reading. if not, you WILL fail. not kidding.
taking two classes with him back to back made me change my major. avoid at all costs.
attendance is recorded, knows everyones name by like the 2nd class. power points and interesting lectures, uses the assignments after each chapter in the book, easy. 3 tests, short answer questions and matching. i did bad on the first test, but then amazing on the second test, you learn what he's looking for. would take again. learned alot!
Completely different from his attitude in southern politics. Does not seem to care as much and the tests are impossible. Requires a very tiring paper that is enough to deter me from every taking him agian. Very avaible for help outside of class though.
Prof. Knuckey in my opinion was a good prof. He was very clear and helpful. If you want to learn something, I highly recommend taking his class. He uses powerpoints for his lectures. All in All his class was interesting, I received an A and I'll be taking his Southern Politics class in the Fall.
This class was very easy. He makes it an easy class. You will have to do group work and you will have an assignment due about once a week, but they are not hard. I recommend this class, because Doctor Knuckey is a great teacher.
Do not take this class unless you enjoy writing long research papers and having nightly "busy work". Professor can be disrespectful to students.
Exams are extremely difficult. STUDY and take good notes and you will be fine. Overall good professor, helpful. I think I counted our final 21 pages (not to scare you.) He will answer any of your questions. Summer class so there was no paper. Learned a lot but scope and methods is very boring. He tried to make it as interesting as it could be.
Great guy, the accent (British) didn't impede learning. Took him for summer, so no survey, but plenty of book worksheets, almost one every class period. Really helpful and understanding.
omg I adore this man. He is VERY difficult though. Lots of essay questions and tests are insanely hard. You MUST go to class. I took two classes with him in one semester and I'll probably end up taking another sometime. Love him.
Nice guy, cares a lot about his students. Textbook is mandatory. Homework every day, but not insane amounts + you get credit for it. Research paper at end of semester is HUGE but doable. Be EXTREMELY thourough on your essay responses on the 3-4 tests.
Bring Knuckey a case of Guiness the first day and garunteed you'll get an A (He lived in Louisiana.. he isnt above corruption)! Very entertaining and great teacher, took him online for scopes and now southern politics. Take him if you can!
..................
In general the class was fun because it was mostly discussion, but the teacher was a total jerk most of it. His tests were all essay and over critical on grading. the reviews for the tests were completely useless. There is alot of writing in the class to warn you and the hw is doable but still quite alot. Dont recommend him if u dont like writing.
His scopes class has alot of homework, all of which I did very well on. The tests are insane and I bombed them. Still managed to get a C tho, cause I got extra credit for attending every class. I hear Quan Li has a much easier scopes class.
Knuckey is wonderful. You have homework every week but its easy and helps supplement your grade. there are 3 tests, 2 midterms and a final that is worth slightly more. no tests are cumulative, and are fine if you study the review he gives you. he's got a great sense of humor and always had the class laughing. he's become one of my favorite profs.
Really great prof. very dedicated to teaching and his students. Mandatory attendance,2 midterms, 1 essay final, and time consuming data analysis paper. This class is difficult and a lot of work, but very rewarding. Would only take if you are a poli.sci. major.
Professor Knuckey is an asset to UCF. Southern politics is not an easy class, but he made the class interesting. Yes, you do need to dedicate a lot of time to studying outside of class, but if you are at all interested in political science, this is a great class! :)
By no means is this an easy class but you learn a TON and his lectures are great. The tests are all essay format but he makes it clear beforehand on what he is looking for.Go to class, read.My main advice though: START THE PAPER EARLY!I'm grateful to have taken him,I was forced to think and was exposed to grad level work.Hot British accent is a plus
Took Prof. Knuckey for Scope and Methods. Tough material, but he made it extremely clear. He's hilarious and great at teaching, and knows exactly where students struggle. He'll also walk you through anything you don't understand.
Dr. Knuckey is amazing! Literally he is one of the best professor's I've had at UCF. His course was easy to understand and very clear on what was required for each lesson. I took his Scope and Methods class online but it was still enjoyable and I still felt like I was taking an interesting and involved course.
I took Dr. Knuckey's class two and half years ago and I can honestly say he is the best teacher I ever had. Scope and Methods of PS is a very boring subject but he made it fun and he really cares about every students progress. His class isnt easy, and I almost didnt take him because of it, but Im really glad my schedule limited me that semester.
Professor Knuckey is very engaging and interesting, took him for Southern Politics. Attendance isn't mandatory but extra credit so it's better to go. Exams are short essay format but he gives you the prompts ahead of time. Also he has a British accent, which is always enjoyable. Will take him again.
He lied saying that the test are three questions but there is actually nine questions. I regret taking him! He gives you five which are really 15 questions to study from and he chooses three. His a really hard grader don't take him!
Very interesting class and Knuckey is clearly very passionate about what he does. Great prfoessor, but he does work you hard. I reccomend him if you are someone who wants to be challenged and learn a lot, but not if you are looking for an easy A. I would definetly take him again.
do not take him be aware! he has a four page page paper due that is not like any other paper you have ever taken!
Amazing professor. A very boring subject, but he did an excellent job creating interest and explaining himself, the assignments and the purpose of them very clearly. When grading assignments he takes the time to not only mark which questions you missed, but explain why it was missed. Very constructive. Wish I could take another one of his classes!
This is the worst professor I have ever meet in my life. I would advise you not to take him. His grading is quite harsh and his final is unbelievable.
Dr. Knuckey teaches online classes very well. There are a lot of busy work assignments (MicroCase), but they will help on the tests and with the research paper. He responds quickly to emails and gives good feedback on tests. On the first couple of assignments he will give you an opportunity to make up points if you miss something.
Best. Professor. Ever. This class is tough, and he expects a lot out of you. But if you care about doing well, and he knows it - he will help you understand and get a hold of the material. Be prepared for some interesting projects and worksheets!
Not the easiest class ever, there's alot of work/reading, but it helps a ton on the tests, quizzes, and assignments. Take notes or you will fail! Gives you the opportunity to make up missed points on assignments, up until the 1st test. Really recommend him, he really does care and really does make sure everyone is clear on what's going on.
Took online. He is an incredible professor but the material is tough. He does a great job at being available to you and being understanding, especially for an online class. The material isn't easy though, especially if you are someone like me who isn't a political science major.
Dr. K is an attentive professor who wants to see his students understand the material and succeed. This class was challenging for me, personally;Dr. K was always available to contact with questions and concerns. Receiving an A is attainable. I took this as an on-line class; Dr. K prepares power points to add value to the online setting.
Dr. Knuckey is a great professor and taught what has been my favorite class so far. His lectures are very interesting and he clearly puts a lot of work into them and the accompanying slides, which are filled with data and relevant information. He is very open and respectful to students with questions and the class was much more fun than difficult.
I was on the border between a B+ and an A all year. He wasn't always the clearest about what would be considered "A" work but I still thoroughly enjoyed him and the class.
Knuckey is probably one of the greatest Pol. Sci. professors at UCF. His style is simple and manageable. I took this his class in 8 weeks and managed a B+. He will help you every step of the way & he always reply's to your emails in a timely manner. If you have the chance to take him, do it!
Provided really good feedback. Good about communicating with students. Understanding and will help you if you need it. Would definitely take an online class with him again.
Miserable - professor more concerned with style and format than content. If the assignments are not the exact way he wants, he won't consider the content or work that you put into it. At times more concerned with formatting than correct answers
Really easy class. Learned how to work with statistics. All quizzes are unlimited time and the answers are directly stated in the book. Finished with a 94%.
Dr. K is awesome! I went to his office hours a couple times before tests and he was extremely helpful . He gives you the essay questions for the 2 midterms and final. The assignments equal to 25% of your grade for a nice cushion if you dont do so well on the tests. His lectures are interesting and informational. He truly cares about his students!
The class is relatively easy but a lot of work. The quizzes and writing assignments aren't hard but its difficult to understand what he considers an A. The Mircocase assignments are a pain if your not good in statics and the FINAL was ridiculously HARD. Its worth 20% of your grade and was probably one of the hardest finals I have taken at UCF.
The first month will be a learning curve and your grade will reflect accordingly. Prof. Knuckey is great and his material taught me a lot. I highly recommend this course, although I recommend utilizing his office hours during the beginning section. He cares very much about his specific format of answering questions. Great online polo-sci class.
He really does care for his students. He gives great feedback. It was a harder class and MicroCase can be difficult to navigate sometimes and it does feel like an outdated program. However, he made the course run as smoothly as he could. He provided online lectures and modules that were very helpful. Would recommend taking him.
If you have the option to take this class with Professor Knuckey take advantage! I learned so much and he truly cares for his students, helps you in whatever you may find difficult. 3 exams with the essay portion (gives the topic before hand). I strongly recommend to study his powerpoints for the exams and write out your essay responses.
I do not have enough good things to say about Professor Knuckey, but because I only have 300 characters I'll settle for this: this was the only class I've ever taken where I was genuinely sad when it ended. The class isn't easy, but as long as you put in the effort you will pass. Professor is willing to work with students. Definitely recommend.
Run ! as fast as you can from this professor .Very tough grader .His tests are sooo long for little time each question is close to one page and almost all question are connect it to each other so no chance to escape a question if you dont know it .Thats a PUNISHMENT class and I felt he likes to punish student .Dont take this professor not friendly
6 modules 2-3 quizzes/module 5 written assignments 2 exams Schedule and plan ahead. The class is easy but tedious, so stay on your toes. Professor will always remind you when something is due. Gives good feed back on written assignments and his expectations for the assignments are very clear. Super accessible. A good professor!
He cares about his students. I took one online class with him and I Skyped him sometimes. Very attentive, very nice person. To be honest, he really cares about you understanding the topic. He REALLY care about his students. I won't said it was easy but not a hard class but not a lot of homework.
Professor Knuckey is a fantastic professor. The class included weekly modules and quizzes, which at times may be lengthy, but the grading requirements were very clear. He always gives feedback on what you missed, and will give you the opportunity to redeem your incorrect answers. Definitely take Professor Knuckey!
Professor Knuckey is a caring professor. Every time I took a quiz he would review it and tell me which answers I got wrong and he would let me fix them. The class is tough but he is very helpful.
Take Scopes with Knuckey, he's great! Course consists of Quizzes, Assignments, Midterm & Final (each make up 25% of grade). First half of class you watch recorded lectures & take a quiz per week (can be corrected for full credit), then take the midterm. Second half is 8 assignments from the SPSS workbook (no corrections), & a non-cumulative final.
One of the hardest classes you will take. First half of the class is quizzes based on his powerpoints. The 2nd half is where you will struggle. It is a program called SPSS. His quizzes are short answer and fill in the blanks. His final exam is a complete joke as its fill in the blank with no reference what to put in it. You will be lucky to get a B
He was an amazing professor! Truly learned a lot about southern politics and it was so enjoyable. So far I have an A, but I took final tonight to see where I'll be at after. If I were to get a B in this class I would not be upset due to how much I have learned. He is a great lecturer and easily accessible outside of class! Overall, awesome!
Knuckey is easily, and by far, the single worst professor I have ever taken. The first half of the semester consists of lengthy, winded PowerPoint lectures and arbitrary quizzes that are only intended to be busy-work and the second half is all self-taught SPSS assignments. Workload each week takes no less than 15 hours to complete! DO NOT TAKE!!!!!
When he tells you to start your work before it is due, he means it. If you have a question he is very responsive to e-mails. Hard class to take online, but he is a great professor
Im warning u. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Hes not bias when it comes to politics. His power points do not explain throughly the topics. One assignment per week but youll need a whole week to work on it if you want to achieve a decent grade.
Scopes is my easiest class this semester because you just follow his lectures (pre-midterm) and the SPSS book (post-midterm). Put his lectures on 1.5x-2x speed, and it makes them SO much more bearable, and SPSS is so simple if you follow the book. I've done most of the HW the day it's due, and I'm set to get an A so I highly rec his class!
Online class had assignments every 3-4 days throughout the semester. The class consists of quizzes and writing assignments which weren't very difficult. The quizzes were open book and had no time limit. He also gives a grace period to turn in late work but if you abuse it (I did) he tends to start grading a bit harsher so try to do it on time.
The prof is amazing, the class is terrible. I cried a half dozen times or something bc of this class. Lectures are long, but quizzes are easy. The second half of the class is 8 SPSS assignments, so it's like a stats class. If you're a math person, great. If not, just run. Take it with literally any other class. It's so time-consuming. Legit no life
Prof Knuckey is a great professor and gives good feedback. He is also very easy to contact outside of class. His online class has no exams but lots of quizzes and writing assignments. You have until 5PM the day after an assignment is due to submit it without late penalty (a real life saver!). The easiest way to ace the class is READ THE TEXTBOOK!
Professor Knuckey is really easy to reach and quick to give feedback. There is two assignments a week. Quizzes and written assignments only, no midterm or final. The quizzes are open book and note with no time limit. The major downside of this class was the insane amount of reading. There was so much reading and the quizzes were fairly long.
I took Professor Knuckey twice, the first time I got a D and thought Ahh maybe Id give him a second chance. He asks you questions that pertain to information only in the PowerPoint so if you miss a word or 2 he says you can get marked down on his test/ quizzes heavily. Not only this your graded only on his test, which make things difficult.
Don't expect clear grading rubrics for any writing assignments. Even if it does not say to use sources, make sure you use them anyway. Will have writing assignments that do not have a right or wrong answer, but will expect his right answer. Great lectures and interesting class but not worth it.
There is a LOT of reading to do. That being said, it's interesting which makes it easier. There's two assignments a week ranging from chapter quizzes, case studies, and written assignments. Some assignments seem impossible but if you do the reading you'll be fine. He doesn't grade harshly but don't make the mistake of thinking you can just skim by.
I am rating this class poorly because of its deception. The name of this class should be "The Politics of Race in the South". I want to warn you that the tone of this class is strictly about race and how your race makes you vote a certain way. I will say I enjoyed learning about the civil rights movement through video footage.
Dr. Knuckey is now one of my favorite professors at UCF. He is readily accessible outside of class, actually lectures instead of just reading off of the slides, and is very willing to talk and work with his students. While the class is not difficult, he expects time to be put into his assignments and will grade accordingly.
Take Dr. Knuckey! Yes, there is a ton of reading but that's the bulk of the work, if you do that the assignments will be very doable. If you're expecting online lectures this isn't it, but you don't need it bc seriously if you read the textbook and his ppt notes you're good! Be prepared to dedicate a lot of time towards this class, you can do it!
Professor was extremely rude and unwillingly to help me everytime I tried to reach out to him and seek clarification for an assignment. Does not seem to care about his students and their ability to grasp the material that he is "teaching"
worst professor ever for scopes. do not take him. the class was based on powerpoints and everything on the exam did not make any sense. run
Class topic is interesting and professor always gives feedback, but do not take this class online
Don't take this Professor if you're lazy, or looking for an easy A. You have to work for it. The assignments are super spread out, which is nice, but the assignments do take a long time. The quiz questions are tricky, and you have to apply yourself to get the correct answer. Good news is the material is really interesting, I learned so much.
I can't even describe how amazing this professor is. My friends recommended him to me and I ended taking him and he exceeded my expectations. He tells you the truth about Southern Politics, and he is a wonderful professor. He makes sure that you understand what he expects out of the course and really wants you to succeed.
I really like Knuckey as a person, great guy, however his tests are brutal. His powerpoint slides don't tell a lot of the material so you really have to listen in his class and take really good notes. This class is also entirely history and focuses a lot on slavery. This class wasn't bad but is hard to get an A.
This class was extremely interesting, I learned so much. There are quite a few assignments but it isn't too much. Reading and taking good notes are very important. Extra credit attached to attendance. The tests can be tricky due to wording but it is manageable. He is willing to help and go over any material with students. 10/10 recommend.
Dr. Knuckey is easily among my favorite professors I've had. This is my second class with him and it was great (as expected). If you see his name for the class you want just pick him you won't regret it. Obviously theres work to do and grades aren't handed out but he's very fair and the courses are absolutely doable.
No clear grading criteria, timed quizzes, and ridiculous feedback. If I were to be asked: describe this professor in one sentence, I would say "This is a professor that wants his students to fail".
Absolutely the worst professor I've ever had. He was not clear on his grading until after the assignments were graded. He provided a free textbook, but he cares more about you listening to his lectures (that have multiple misspellings.) If you can avoid taking with him, I would. The only thing good about this professor is he offers Zoom meetings.
Honestly this professor was extremely bad and I absolutely struggled in his class. No matter how hard I tried to read the textbook and study, as well as do the assignments he always gave me a low grade. He is not very clear on his instructions to what he requires for his assignments. If you can avoid taking him do it.
Super fun to listen to his lectures in class. It was difficult to tell what he wanted us to translate into the writings on the exams. No clear rubric & he's a tough grader. There was a mix of general event knowledge and hyperspecific, not 100% necessary details (like EXACT dates) on the exams that I found difficult to recall. Nice guy though.
Dr. Knuckey made getting up and going to class very easy. His lectures were some of the best that I have ever attended at UCF! Make sure to take good notes, as his PowerPoint slides aren't content heavy, and the Exams are very lecture heavy. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you miss less than 3 classes, you'll get 3 points added to your grade.
I was initially excited about this professor, but after taking his class he is incredibly difficult to work with. He spoke over me when I asked questions, made me feel stupid for not understanding and left demeaning feedback. He's a harsh grader- there is a right and wrong answer. I had to put in extra effort just for him to find more problems.
The type of professor that doesn't want his students to succeed. Very biased. Unreasonable grading.
Professor Knuckey's lectures are engaging, but the exams require mastering a lot of specific details. Attend class, take thorough notes, and use resources like Unstuck AI to ace this course. Overall, a rewarding but challenging class.
Dr. Knuckey is a great professor that is extremely accessible outside of class to ask questions, meet on zoom, etc. We had to read quite a few articles a week but truthfully it wasnt bad. I question if these lower ratings are reflective on him or personality differences/people that didnt ask him questions on expectations for the course. Great prof.
This professor lacks a clear and consistent grading rubric, which seems to be a recurrent concern among students in the comments. It feels like the grading is subjective and influenced by personal favoritism rather than quality of work. If you value transparency in grading, you may reconsider taking this class.
No clear grading criteria, with not enough feedback either. Kept writing that he didn't really “see my voice coming trough” in my assignments, which didn't make much sense, since I wrote it and not him. If you do take him, memorize the test questions he puts ahead of time on the study guide and go with an essay memorized for those questions.
Great Professor. Second time with him. He is engaging, kind, and cares about students. In my opinion, he gives good feedback. Tests are relatively easy as he gives sample questions that tell you EXACTLY what to study.
Dr. Knuckey is an amazing professor. I took a graduate-level course, and the class was not too difficult. It is heavily discussion- and reading-based, so you have to be prepared (e.g., reading everything assigned, raising questions, and contributing to the conversation). He is very accessible outside of class and gives timely feedback.
This was one of the first Political Science classes I've taken, and I absolutely loved it. His lectures and grading criteria are clear. The only way to not pass this class is by not engaging with the material or not showing up. This course requires a lot of effort. Do not take if you're not willing to put in the work.
Worst class I have taken ever! Has way too many assignments that should not take more than one day to complete. His lectures do not explain properly so I had to do my own research to be able to figure the assignments out. Tough grader, I could have the correct answer but if my explanation is off by a word he gives no credit. SAVE YOURSELF!
DO NOT TAKE KNUCKEY ! PICK ANOTHER PROFESSOR . The spss was very difficult and time consuming all my classmates agreed it takes them about 6 hour to complete it watching his lectures and making sure your completing it correctly . This should be his last semester. I heard he's retiring, but just in case he doesn't . Do not take him !
Great professor. Would take again. I have taken two graduate classes with Dr. Knuckey. They are very much discussion based. The format of the classes is very conducive to learning. Very interesting readings. His classes made me a much better researcher.
It is a challenging class but if you start the spss assignments early you can ask him questions he will help clarify. I talked to him several times on Zoom and he helped explain the material. Was available on weekends which was nice. Assignments only take you a day if you start them on the due date, but he tells you to start them early.
I was really fearful about this class given what I had heard but it turned out to be way more manageable than I expected! The professor was super responsive whenever I had questions especially with the SPSS assignments, which made a big difference. If you're willing to put in the effort plan ahead and actually ask for help, you'll do fine.
He was my first ever Academic Integrity scare despite me never doing anything to earn it. I am about to graduate too if that says anything. We had to use this SPSS system for the last half of the semester, and it was a glitchy system at best. He wasn't good about giving feedback despite being a harsh grader. Would not recommend.
Professor cares a lot about academic integrity to the point he starts accusing everyone of plagiarism. First part of the course is easy, until you start using SPSS which is very confusing. He is a very harsh grader and doesn't really care for his students.
The final exam was 37 questions, 2 hours. Sounds good until you realize 15 questions took over 5 hours with the assignments similar to the final. In the group me, person after person said they ran out of time with up to ten questions left they weren't able to answer due to the time restraint. The final is 20% of the overall grade.
It was difficult to retain most the information from the lectures that had very few example problems. Mine was a 6-week course, so I expected it to be a lot, but this was too much, and too few assignments for the total grade. No extra credit options either. Being a straight A student, is only my second B in college, so a bit disappointed.
Really knowledgeable in the area, and very good at explaining the topics. He usually also gives plenty of resources to help out with the long homework. Not the best with answering questions though, he'll usually just tell you to refer back to the handouts and slideshows he makes. Still, pretty good professor overall!
He's a good guy however sometimes it feels like he's looking for any reason to take off points, so be prepared for that if you decide to take him. Be sure to study for
