absolutely loved his class. A lot of reading.. a quiz everyday on each nights readings. Go on "fieldtrips", midterm was take home and we ate pizza during our final. Read your readings each night and you will do fine. He is willing to help if you ask for it. I would def take his class again.

Great teacher! Very cool guy who knows what he's talking about. Genuinely cares about whether or not you get it as well. He knows what it's like to be a student and is very understanding! He assigns chapter readings every other class and there are 10 question quizzes on each. As long as you read the chapters and study, you'll do great. Take him!
He was an overall nice guy, but pretty much teach yourself, because lectures are about the text you read the night before and quizes occur before the lecture He has a pretty good sense of humor, but at times it interupts with the seriousness of the class. Hes a good guy, but if the A will not be handed to you.
Fantastic professor. He says you have to read to pass but I actually did better when I didn't read. Haha. As long as you have a good understanding of the topics covered in each chapter, you'll be fine. The quizzes get kind of annoying, but they really help in the long run (especially with the final exam). Loved this class!! :)
Absolute favorite teacher at ODU. Highly recommend. I've had him for several classes and he will bend over backwards to help you. Overall, his classes arn't easy but you will do great if you pay attention to him. Very interesting class, and very good teacher. Take him!
He is really cool!
Professor Lopez is awesome! If you go to class and participate you'll do great. He's so nice and interesting, and will help you out at any time. My favorite professor at ODU- I highly recommend him!
Very interesting class. However, you have to read the material. If you do not it will be very hard. Professor Lopez has a great sense of humor and is very good at relaying the material. Great class if you are ready to work for your grade.
His brain is better than the sociology textbook: he's a great lecturer! Watch out; his multi-choice quizes can be tricky unless you know the text like the back of your hand! Extremely helpful in all matters, you can call him any-time; literally. What he teaches will stick with you for years to come! Take him and you won't regret it!
Lopez is a cool teacher. He looks like a wierd animal off of Animal Planet! Quizes on every chapter, read the chapt. summ... and youll do fine. Midterm and Final count a lot so study. Essay questions for him...are 1 paragraph...Recommend! He has deleyed reactions to jokes, so prepare
good teacher
Mr. Lopez is a great professor. ALl you have to do is read the material and come to class. He is very open minded, so if you are a stiff and dont have a sense of humor dont take him.
Very good professor...cares a lot about students and wants to help in any way...even skimming through the chapter will give you A's on quizes...study the quizzes and youll have an A test...and take the short sample quiz at the end of chapter...makes it easier.
Extremely friendly, and will work with you if you have problems. There is a quiz on each chapter before you discuss it, but quizzes makeup only 20% of your grade and he drops the lowest 2. Has one super easy article review(2 pages, double spaced.) Gives you the essay questions before the exam to prepare. Attendance is MANDATORY!
Very good professor
He was a good enough professor. I just didn't like that he would always talk about how accessible he is. I emailed him a few times throughout the semester and never received an answer.
If you are trying to get easy grade, then he is NOT the one for you. He grades paper very hard. SO WATCH OUT! You will have quizes in all chapters which is time consuming + article + extra papers + presentaion + 2 extra test + 2 exams .Especially if you are taking a lot of credits then I would suggest you not to take him.
good teacher and adorable, which helps!
WAT CAN I SAY ABOUT JLO ?? HES AN AMAZING GUY AND A WONDERFUL PROFESSOR. READING IS IMPORTANT BUT ITS NOT EVERYTHING. HIS LECTURES ARE NOT BORING AND THEY ARE EASY TO UNDERSTAND. HE PROVIDES YOU WITH POWERPOINT SLIDES TO TAKE NOTES ON. QUIZZES ARE COMMON, BUT THE ARE ONLY 10 MULTIPLE CHOICE. highly reccommended !!
Amazing professor. Had him for criminology and sociology. Quizzes are based on every other chapter. Do the reading and the quizzes are easy even if you just skim through the chapters. Only test are midterm and final. Overall i highly recommend him.
Jlo is an awsome guy. he just makes everything funny and interesting. i had him for criminal justice and sociology. his quizzes are freakin easy and he will sometimes give u hints while u take them. attendance is mandatory, but with the way he makes the material interesting, i never wanted to miss a class. Good class.
LOVEDDDDD JLO!!! I did the learning community and him for intro to soc and intro to crim. He is very very very helpful. He allows students to call his cell phone if they need help.Pay attention and read the texts he gives reading quizzes but their pretty easy.He gives outline question for the essay part of the midterm. I would def take him again!
One of the best teachers I've ever had! He's funny and helpful. You do have to attend class everyday--it will help you on the midterm. Class is easy if you come to class and skim the book. Gives lots of extra credit and cancels class often.
loved him! very helpful. quizzes pretty often, all multiple choice. very easy if you read. keeps class interesting. great guy!
Easy class. Consists of reading quizzes on every chapter, a midterm, a paper, and a final exam. Aslong as you read you'll be fine. Attendance is mandatory, he gets really mad when you skip his class otherwise great guy.
great class over all, very interesting professor
I loved this class! i hate that it's over! He made it so much fun! and the information that he taught was done so in a fun manner. Gave lots of chances for extra credit! if you do have him as a teacher make sure that you study the night before for the quizs because he does give one at the begg. of every chapter. but other than that..great teacher!
Overall, this class is suuper easy! Quizzes are so easy they're a joke and he gives plenty of extra credit. You have to try really hard to fail.
I had him for film and society and crime mapping. Just show up to class and pay attention. Take notes on the movies. He doesn't like tardiness or missing his class. He always makes the class really interesting, so it's not one you want to miss anyway.
Professor Lopez was great. He hates tardiness which is great because it's so distracting. Quizes keep you up on your reading. He lets you call his cell if you need to and he takes field trips to the zoo:)
I have taken a few classes with Professor Lopez and have enjoyed all of them. If you pay attention and do the work he asks you will get an A. If you slack off and don't pay attention you will have trouble in the class. Overall he is a great professor and would reccomend him for any Sociology or CRJS course.
VERY MOODY! Somedays he was in a good mood others he was a grouch. He will help you out in the class either with extra credit or by grading very easy. If you are the type of person who can ignore his attitude, take him.
If you need Honors College credit, take this class. It's the same as 201. He has random mood swings, but if you pay attention, you'll get an A. He's a really weird guy...sits in the dark before class. Creepy. But if you're looking for an easy A, take him. Just get ready for some mood swings and dry humor.
I've noticed that moody on RMP usually = won't accept mediocrity. Which Lopez doesn't. I've had him for several classes, and he is awesome. Not for slackers though. If you're serious, he will go to great lengths to make sure you succeed. As for making you feel like you're stupid, well, like Forrest's mama said ... stupid is as stupid does.
The smartest, funniest and kindest prof. I've known. But he's operating on a mental level high above and tangent to the norm. He weeds out slackers, and it's quite amusing to witness. He urges students from their SOL-induced comas to think abstractly. If you don't want to learn or have no sense of humor, go elsewhere. Plus he's nice to look at :)
Very smart teacher, great person
He is very smart and knows what he's talking about. But he's so MOODY and won't let u make up stuff.
I didn't find him moody at all just extremely sarcastic which I found hilarious at times. He does care about his students and goes above and beyond to help them. Setting up dates for help and even giving out his personal cell number...he even texts you back. CRJS 395 is a difficult to comprehend alone so you gotta pay attention and ask for help.
VERY FUNNY AND INTERESTING TEACHER..I TOOK IT DURING SUMMER SESSION..AS LONG AS YOU READ THE BOOK YOU WILL PASS ALL QUIZZES AND IF YOU PAY ATTENTION TO CLASS DISCUSSION AND NOTES YOU WILL DEFINITELY PASS THE TEST...ONE PRESENTATION ON AN ARTICLE REVIEW
Professor Lopez is a really good teacher. You can tell that he really loves what he does. You REALLY need to read the chapters in order to do well on the quizzes though. His lectures are interesting and he can be really funny. Oh, and DO NOT be late.
The idiocy of my peers sometimes amazes me. I am in the same class as the dunce below. This prof is probably one of the best you will have if you are a serious student who likes having your opinion valued & being held to an adult standard. We're health/med students for goodness' sake. Will our patients want us to be 5 min late for their surgeries?
Impressive prof, really funny (if you appeciate dry wit!), knows what he's talking about, and wants you to do well. Doesn't coddle students though, and has low tolerance for slackers. I had a hard time in this class at first, but he was quick to set up a meeting. He'll go to great lengths to help as long as you are serious.
This guy just wants you to think critically. Whether it's a computer based class, film or soc, if you try hard and ask for help, you will get an awesome grade. He takes attendance very serious, so don't be late or he will embarrass you! If you like teachers who understand students, take Prof. Lopez
Show up to class or he will call you out. Make sure he knows you name. Participate in class it helps grade out in end. Take advantage of extra-credit. He can be aggravating but he really does try to help you if you help yourself. Makes smart comments. You must read. LEARN how to think outside the box. His class is no surprise he lays it out
Great teacher. Makes class fun, and relevant to our lives and majors. Have decided to minor in Soc! Super-helpful and nice but doesn't tolerate laziness or rudeness (which is nice b/c the serious ones can focus) so if that is you, then prob steer clear. Cares about the subject and his students very much. Will make sure to take him again if I can.
this is a class that u have to work to get a good grade. read ch. wen assigned. always come to class. study wat he tells u to. follow his instructions precisely. If u get an A on all assignments(average A for quizzes) your exempted from the final exam. he just want to see ur effort and you'll get an A
This class is easy if you read the assigned chapters and take notes in class. He will take one point from your final grade for each absence so attendance is vital. You will definitely need the textbook.
Good professor? Absolutely. Would I chill with him? Probably not. But attend the lectures, (and pay attention. You don't want to nod off. Trust me.) read the chapters, and the rest will take care of itself. The textbook will be your new best friend.
He's a cool dude...JUST DONT FALL ASLEEP IN CLASS!!!, Come to class ontime(He locks the doors) and read your book! it will pay off!
He is really funny and knows how to keep it interesting. There is a quiz every class but if you do the reading they are a cake walk. He is very helpful and is willing to take papers and read them with you so you can fix it before he grades them! If you get an A average for the whole class you are exempt from the final! I got an A. TAKE HIM.
This class was easy. He can be a little insensitive to students who aren't doing well, but if you read and come to class you will do fine. I received an A in the class.
He is great! He knows what he is talking about, but has to put a lot of notes on blackboard because he kind of rambles. He is willing to help you out whenever you need it. He cares about his students which is refreshing! Just study for the quizes, midterm, and final a lot and you'll do great! Plus, he isn't the worst looking teacher in the world.
Very helpful and thorough in his lectures. Be sure to take notes closely. Start the connect modules early. Quizzes are vocab review, tests are applying the skills. Interactive lectures. DO NOT SHOW UP LATE OR USE ELECTRONICS (EVER)
Pretty cool guy sometimes. deff go to class he takes attendence. sometimes he is mean and calls kids out for texting and stuff. if u show up a min. late to his class he will yell at u infront of everyone and make u get out. material isnt all that hard but u do have to study for this class he tests on all of the vocab basically.
I enjoyed this class. Professor Lopez is helpful and explains things thoroughly if not he'll make a walkthrough or instructions. The class wasn't hard just detail oriented. He notices people who are willing to put in effort for their grades. I definitely recommend this class to learn the GIS program as a plus.
I liked this class. You really have to work for your grade. But it's worth it. I look at society in a whole different way. Attendance is mandatory, dont come late. There are quizzes, but they're easy. He really wants to help students who are seriously trying. If you dont come to class, he wont bother helping you.
He's a good teacher who means well. He really does want to see all of his students excel. Don't come in late. EVER. Don't use your phone in class either, he takes points off of your final grade. His midterms and finals are harder that his quizzes.
He's a really nice guy, means well. His class is easy to pass if you pay attention, take notes, and read the chapters assigned. Quizzes are vocab based and sometimes come from his lecture. His test can be hard and apply the skills from lecture but overall his class is easy! DON'T COME LATE OR USE ELECTRONICS OR SLEEP, EVER!!!
He very nice and enjoys what he teaches but gets off topic pretty easily. He is a fair grader. Be prepared to write a lot in his class. The midterm and exam was very long, took over 2 hours to complete but he gave you all of the info that would be on it a week in advance. This was a once a week class so attendance was mandatory.
J-Lo knows his stuff. He's passionate, and tries to make Sociology fun and enjoyable. He locks the doors right when classes starts, and has a strict attendance policy. Just don't be late, and don't fall asleep, and turn your phones off!
He is a really great professor and I enjoyed his class a lot! It was a lot of information because he pretty much teaches the entire textbook in 1 semester. Each lecture class is basically a chapter. My best advice is to READ (it helps a lot), NEVER come late, GO to class and TAKE notes, TURN OFF your phone, and PARTICIPATE! He gives extra points!
You will have to study for his class. However, it is college so you should have to study anyways. Professor Lopez was by far my favorite professor I have had. His lectures are great and he has a great personality. He is there to help. Just make sure one thing BE ON TIME. There is no minute late when it comes to him.
This is the second class I've taken from Dr. Lopez. Honestly one of the best prof! Only 4 papers, 4 discussion boards, midterm and final. He gives great instructions so do what he asks and no way you won't get an A. He really makes the class interesting and so super fair in grading. Will extra hints to exams to help you succeed. My favorite Prof!!
Amazing professor. He really helps his students succeed. The grading criteria is very straight forward. I would recommend the access code with the book, it helps with the chapter quizzes. Don't be late and don't text during class. You would think that these are common sense rules but he is more strict than most.
Professor Lopez is a tough professor. He has high expectations and his jokes often come off as extreme sarcasm.
Mr . Lopez gave us a review sheet for every test and test were direct from the guide. My favorite professor of the year. He takes attendance every day.
This professor is absolutely amazing! I fell in love with sociology because of him! He is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he is teaching and does everything in his power to help his students succeed. He is very quick to respond if you need help or have a question. He makes class interesting and is, honestly, a breath of fresh air!
His dry sarcasm is utterly rude, but his lame games wont interfere with you receiving anything less than a B in the class. He looks out for his students grades, but will remind you that a majority of the material should be common sense and knowledge. Participation matters, blah blah easy A.
Mr. Lopez is extremely sarcastic but it is in a funny way. He cares about what he teaches and is very knowledgable. He preps his students for test and warns you of what is going to be on it. He takes attendance and tardiness very serious. He won't let you in if you are late. Extra credit is offered and if you listen you'll definitely pass! Take him
Took him for SOC395 and SOC344. He may come off as a very tough professor, but his classes are awesome. He is very clear on guidelines and is always willing to help and answer questions. He responds to emails pretty quick and goes out of his way to make sure you get your questions answered. Tests & quizzes are not terrible as long as you study!
He is a great teacher. Just BE ON TIME. Other than that he is really cool and nice it is almost impossible to fail. p.s don't get the text book never used it in class, only extra credit option.
This class is pretty easy as long as you show up and take notes because his tests are taken directly from his lectures. Don't buy the book because you'll never use it. Be on time or he shuts the doors and will refuse to let you in or make a scene if he does let you in. Takes attendance every class
Professor Lopez is a really cool and respectable guy. The way he lectures gets you thinking and he gets you involved with what he's lecturing. Although it is a lot of information to take in, his tests are easy because he gives you exactly what you need to do well. The best part is he replies to emails very quickly, which I though was really nice!
He takes attendance, so show up! You will never open the textbook, so save your money. Very lecture heavy, he reads the power points and explains how he wants you to understand it for the test. DO NOT BE LATE. Remember Conflict, Theory, and Interaction Theory. He gives study guides, so it really isn't that hard. You just have to memorize things.
Don't skip out on class and pay attention. Make sure that everyone in your group does the group paper or you won't be able to pass. We watch a lot of films and the test were heavy with information regarding that. It is all written, so make sure you remember what you watched and discussed.
He is a really cool teacher, but his class gave me trouble. GET THE TEXTBOOK! That was the one mistake I made and please study for the quizzes. You have four quizzes, a midterm, and a final. Textbook will help you and he just gives points toward the end. Go to class and take good notes. He cares about your grade and he does curve. DON'T BE LATE!
Professor Lopez is very good. Show up to every class, don't be late and pay attention and you should expect to get a good grade. He REALLY does not like if you are late. He will call you out in front of the whole class. My advice is just don't come if you are late. He prepares you for all quizzes and test. He is a WONDERFUL professor!
Professor Lopez was by far my favorite professor this semester! He is very passionate about his teaching and provides many real life examples to help students understand the material easier. Show up ON TIME, and do your work, you'll get a grade that shows that. He works hard to make sure his students are always prepared.
He makes sociology fun! He makes you read the chapters from the textbook and quiz on them ONLINE before class which makes sense because he explains it after what you learned. You have to show up for class for credit. His quizzes are fairly easy since they're directed to the definitions, but his EXAMS (Final and Mid) are example based.
Professor Lopez was awesome! He made sociology very interesting and related it to everyday life. He requires attendance, but it is for your success in the course. He is reachable outside of the classroom and offers several extra credit opportunities. Overall, it was a great course.
You can tell Prof. Lopez is really passionate about sociology. He liked us to read before and discuss during class, he loves participation. He's usually easy going as long as his students do what he expects of them, and he was never shy to call us out if we didn't. DON'T BE LATE. He prepares you for the quizzes, midterm, and article review.
All your reading will come from the online textbook. You also have quizzes that he gives that you have to take in order to understand the chapters that you have read. He's very helpful.
One of the best professors I have had at ODU. Took him in the summer and he managed to keep the lecture interesting for four straight hours. Quizzes, tests and assignments are all easy if you study. Be on time to class and pay attention during lectures; you will learn a lot. I highly recommend Prof. Lopez.
he is cool
Good professor he isn't too hard. There is a one project paper, attendance is very important. There is an online book where you do homework and there are quizzes and studying is very important. There are PASS sessions offered so going to them do help.
Love love loved this class! Professor Lopez seems stern (and kinda is) but he's really helpful and funny. He wants you to succeed. His lectures are super entertaining and I learned so much. Read the book, come to class, study for weekly quizzes and exams. There are two group projects and presentations, but they're not bad. I would take him again!
Awesome. Many papers but short & gives exact guidelines & examples. Most films I didn't know which is cool and he wants you to see them with a soc perspective. If out for easy grade or just to watch films I'd avoid! It was challenging but when I had questions he'd respond, sometimes in seconds. Seriously lol. Changed my way of looking at movies.
He is a very informative teacher that really exudes his passion for sociology and criminal justice. You will have to read the book to pass. PLEASE NOTE: Do NOT be late. He will either lock the door or if you are even a minute late he will stare you down and say "thanks for joining us".
In the beginning, he was not there as much due to some personal issues but overall he was a great professor. He made sure every student understood the material. Be sure to have paper and pencil ready to jot down notes. Also, be on time to class. If not, you could expect him calling you in front of the class.
Good professor.. pretty easy to get an a id you follow directions. He can come off as disorganized but hes pretty ok
I took his class hoping the tests and quizzes online would help me get an easy A. I was so wrong, he only does online quizzes and tests, but posts the powerpoints online with all the information for them. Towards the end of the semester, GO TO CLASS. He has two important attendance days that he posts in the Gradebook. He is very email accessible.
Prof Lopez is great. He is hilarious and makes you feel comfortable and welcome in his class. As long as you show up to class, ON TIME, and pay attention, it is an easy A. He does not tolerate tardiness, and will call you out in front of the whole class. Overall I loved his class and his teaching style.
Easy A but so many system issues that it made this class more of a hassle than anything. If not for issues with ARCGIS, I would have really enjoyed this class. The good thing is, he is very understanding and will help you if you need be. Very responsive to emails.
He does an amazing job creating an interesting and engaging class discussion. Also he really knows the content and teaches it in a simple, yet thorough way.
Professor Lopez is a cool teacher but he is very strict about students being on time for class. He makes sure that everyone in the class is passing and will email you when something is up. I definitely wouldn't mind having him again as a teacher; his commentary is hilarious during lectures and he will make you laugh.
He was very strict and hes also rude. Its easy if you study but you need to make sure youre there for class because he will minus points when you dont go.
Professor Lopez was rude at times, even after asking a simple question. His class was very hard but his lectures are boring. He gives study guides for the exams which is superrrr helpful. I wouldnt take his class again though because his lectures put you to sleep.
Be aware that this is a tech course. I mean you learn soc/crim theory/concepts but it's a research/mapping class so a good pc & some skillz will be helpful. Following directions is a must! This being said Lopez answers emails/texts immediately will have phone conferences and go out of his way to help you through assignments. Good job skill to have.
Absolutely love this guy and this class. He's serious but also hilarious. Wants you to be serious too but also loves to hear your opinion. Very different from my other profs so far. In a good way! Ha he plays music :) Let's you text him and we go on field trips. Loved the zoo! Am taking him again and don't even really need the class...
His lectures are boring, it was hard to stay awake. Other than that hes a good professor. He is very serious about being on time to class so do not be late.
Personally I don't see how anyone could think this prof is boring unless they don't pay attention or just don't care. I laughed almost every class and even though it was REALLY early it made me want to be there! Also tru fax: we went to the zoo and he paid his own money for 7 or 8 students to eat who didn't have money. Awesome guy and class.
Lecture heavy class. Also NEVER be late to this class because he will not be let you in. But a nice guy and lots of opportunity for extra credit.
He was extremely rude from the moment I met him. He did not care if I understood the material and provided me with nothing but rude comments when I asked for help. The system had a lot of issues to which he provided minimal help for. I believe that he may be an okay professor in person, but online, he was the worst. 10/10 not recommended.
I have taken this professor 4x. He is an awesome guy funny and will literally spend hours with you emailing or on the phone to help you. You have to be serious about the class and respectful though. He has a low tolerance for students who want to be spoon-fed or do not have good manners. My favorite prof at ODU and will miss him. If I graduate lol!
I'm not great at computers so this was not an easy class for me. Probably would have quit but but Dr. J talked me through several of the assignments on the phone. Very patient and nice and just wants you to learn the material. Wasn't t sure but now so glad I took the class. Def need more professors like this for online classes,.
The Johnny Depp of sociology :) ha ha. Kinda dark but great sense of humor. Musician professor and philanthrapist. I saw him play xmas songs for kids from the projects. No joke. Who does that. LOVE him. Did I mention I love him??? Lol. This was a learning community course so you have to sign up for that to be in the class.
An extraordinary man with a beautiful heart and mind
He made the class way harder than it was supposed to be. I took it online and followed his examples for papers and wrote it exactly like the example he provided, and failed every single paper. I only received a B because I did so well on the midterm. Ive never gotten lower than a C on a paper in my life until this class.
I have heard about the prof but have never taken a class. I had issues preventing me from registering on time and emailed him for an override. He was out of state on vacation but answered me in 5 minutes and let me in no questions asked. I am looking forward to this class. This is a film class btw.
Kind of rude and is not afraid to embarrass you in front of the class if you are late so please don't be late. His lectures are very boring at times and he doesn't allow any form of technology even for note-taking. A lot of the information is common sense which is why I believe I did so well, but my best advice is just to find another professor.
Lopez doesn't like computer or phones in class. Just do the work, most is online quizzes, they are timed so make sure you do the quiz reviews which is very similar to the quiz. Do the easy extra credit! He does not like tardiness and he will call you out. There's one peer review group assignment, not hard the only difficult part is the group.
Even though this is an online course, he will talk to you on the phone. A long time. I just did terribly on the first assignment and texted him and he is out of state and it was really late but he talked for me an hour about sociology and the upcoming quiz. He made me fell like I can still do great. Really amazing.
This is a very challenging computer based course. For me anyway. I know others in the class and they are breezing through it. The only reason I stayed in it is because the professor has talked me through a lot of stuff on the phone and has given very specific directions and videos.
I just got the feedback on my 1st 2 writing assignments. I have to say I wasn't very happy w/ my grades. This being said, he took a lot of time to go through every single aspect and say specifically where I went wrong. Plus he gave a 10-pt curve on both papers. And he does let you send him a draft early to critique which I did not take advantage of
They need to clone this guy for online classes. Especially during this apocalypse. He has been in contact with us daily. And does Zoom meetings. And really they will prob delete this bc we're not supposed to comment on how our profs look anymore, but, well... :)
So sorry this class is over :( He is so awesome. Really unique man. Love him. Highly recommend.
I loved having him for Sociology. He is an amazing teacher that provides you with all the resources you need to do well. Make sure you keep up with the readings so you'll keep up. He offers lots of extra credit. Don't be late, he will call you out. Just be on time and pay attention and you'll be fine!!
This is the most disorganized online class I have ever taken. The course schedule is difficult to read & understand. Likewise, it is hard to find the assignments & instructions. He provides the reading material, but it is hard to read as it is photocopied & some of it is very dark & slanted. It is like he doesn't take the course seriously.
His class is great if you are looking for something easy with a nice professor. He graded assignments so fast, emailed us updates, and gave a ton of easy extra credit options. He had study guides for everything and there was no big paper at the end. The work wasn't hard and the workload was not heavy at all. He's super friendly and approachable.
My fav class so far ngl. He's really cool and gives you his own writing examples to go by with notes and everything. Helps having some soc classes but he gives you so much and he lets you call him and text him. Lets you send him drafts he will grade ahead of time. He gives 2 weeks to do assignments. Will answer messages in mins even late at night.
EXTREMELY rude professor!! The class itself was not difficult & the material was simple, but if you ever have a question about anything, he makes you feel stupid. His tone is very condescending! Was in a group chat with the other students & we constantly talked about how rude he was if we didn't know the answer to something. Will NEVER take again!
I wish I never took this class. He is condescending and will make you feel like an idiot for saying anything. I dont want to ask for help on assignments because theres no point when Ill just get treated like an idiot.
You can email him and explain exactly what you don't understand, and instead of helping you he will tell you that he "does not feel bad for you because the rest of the class understands it". That is a direct quote. He will say that he is confident in his initial explanations/videos for the GIS system and offer no help. Take a different professor.
This professor just critiqued my paper 2x and both times got back to me literally in minutes. He gives very detailed instructions and several examples written by himself and gives 2 weeks to complete 1-page papers. He also gives extremely detailed feedback on graded papers, gives curves and some extra credit. Pretty fun we watched some good films.
This is not an easy class. For real. It's computers & mapping & complex instructions. That being said, if he wasn't as quick to respond and didn't give Zoom meetings if he has to, I would really be struggling. I just keep telling myself I am learning something useful :) Seriously, he really is a caring prof and GIS is being used in many fields...
He seems like a very nice guy but, if you're late or miss class or leave early or fall asleep for almost any reason it's 2 points off of your final grade. He left more than half of the graded work till the last three weeks of the semester. His lectures are so boring bc he just reads right off of the powerpoint.
Unorganized online class but will help you if you email him. He didnt post lectures or modules so we had to do assignments based on a few notes off blackboard. Syllabus was a little hard to read, we had assignments some weeks and other weeks we didnt. The material in this class was simple but I wouldnt take him for a more complex online class.
attendance is super mandatory and if you miss a class, leave, early, etc. it is two points off of your final grade.
Prof Lopez just gave a 2-point "stimulus check" and I got an A lol! Answers emails almost right after u email him. Will work with u 100% as long as he thinks u care. Recommend.
For an upper-level class I found it to be pretty easy. Mostly short papers on how soc and crime are related to film. Lopez gives 2 weeks to write 1-page papers and gives his own examples to go by. Also he'll "grade" your paper ahead of time & give it back for corrections if you're not last minute! Nice guy, interesting class, good films.
just received my grade and honestly if it was not for the EC Dr. Lopez gives and attending the Zoom meetings I was looking at a C fer sure. The classes are early which is kind of a pain but he makes them interesting and I think usually it is an in person class so I wouldve had to be up even earlier anyway! Very cool guy as long as he knows you care
My fav this semester. He's funny and helpful but serious too about class (zoom) and expects us to be responsible and follow directions. There is a lot of information but he tells you exactly what to do to make an A. Main thing is he answers emails/texts almost right after you contact him, even late at night, and he gives a LOT of extra credit :)
This is a mapping class. It is actually a computer class. Good skill for jobs in criminal justice. The bad: he takes a while to grade sometimes. The good: he will do Zoom meetings for hours if you need it. And he gave a last-minute EC and I got an A for Christmas!
This was supposed to be a f2f class until the panny. It changed to Zoom but he teaches it like a f2f class. It is early. He won't let you in if you're late but if you have a decent excuse he'll help you catch up. This is a learning community class, we are all freshmen health sciences students. I want to be a nurse. He focused on how soc is related
So far Prof. Lopez is my favorite. He is very organized, sends out a lot of reminders and is offering a Zoom exam review. I have teachers I hardly ever hear from :(
J is an awesome professor and artist and goes above and beyond for his students. Highly recommend!
So far he is my favorite online professor. He is very organized, he sends out tons of reminders, he answers emails and texts very fast and gives several extra credit opportunities. He is also very transparent with quiz and test results, curves sometimes, sends us encouraging messages, and does Zoom reviews. You will love his big old cat <3
So.. if i could add in multiple photos of tons of emails from this teacher I would. Not one classmate thought he was a good teacher and the reviews..? He never sent out emails till a month and a half in when people complained. Be prepared for had written exams that has a median grade of 70%, last minute assignments with no details, donottakehim.
Just finished my exams! Not certain how I did but feel pretty good. By far my fav class. At least once or twice a week he would give us reminders about stuff due and he gave a TON of study material. Also cool he gave a couple of zoom ec events (this was not a synchronous course). He is very cool and nice. Gives all you need for an A.
Interesting class, made me want to look for other GIS courses. Prof J knows this material and usually will respond very quickly to emails or texts sometimes in seconds. He was teaching online before everyone had to so he knows how to do it. Wants you to keep up and make the effort but will set up Zoom meetings with you if you are stuck.
Seems friendly and helpful. Responds very quickly to emails and texts. You learn new computer software so it can be a little tedious sometimes but so far so good.
He gives very clear directions and is super responsive on emails. He's always willing to guide you on assignments and he's understanding of personal circumstances. You're learning a new software, so it seems like an intimidating class but it's an easy A. Assignments aren't really time consuming and his study guides are verbatim what's on the tests.
Lopez is an amazing professor! He genuinely cares about his students and was just overall an amazing teacher. His lectures made sense and were very detailed. He is very helpful with any and all problems class-related or not. I 100% recommend anyone who needs to take this class take it with Lopez
Professor Lopez is honestly great. I took this class because it was required for my major (Nursing) and I'm happy I did. He made it very easy to understand the content using his slides. I feel like he cares about his students passing. All of the tests were online and were fairly easy. I definitely recommend taking this class with him!
Professor was very rude and when I would ask for assistance on an assignment he was very snarky and didn't help at all and made it seem like it was my fault I was not understanding the assignment.
This is a topics course. Very passionate but still laid-back professor. Attendance is part of the grade. Was not sure what film had to do with criminal justice or sociology but now I know! Have had him before for online too. Would recommend either. He wants you to make at least a B.
Professor Lopez always responded very quickly to emails or texts was well-organized and he always sends out lots of reminders. For every assignment he gives statistics about how the class did. Awesome online teacher.
It's hard to not pass this class. There's a few quizzes, a midterm, a final, and one short writing assignment that's graded by completion. The study guides he gives are verbatim what's on the quizzes/tests, and he gives lots of curves. Also, there's extra credit opportunities and he's really responsive over email. It's overall a super easy A.
The class entails reading the textbook, completing practice quizzes for extra credit, graded quizzes, and 2 short assignments. The practice quizzes can be long, so don't want until the last minute to read & complete them. Otherwise, regular quizzes and exams are pretty short, closed book, and timed. Not a hard class.
Prof Lopez was very easy to work with. The class is computer-based so if you're the type of person who's not good with computers then it might be harder. He gives videos to follow even for major quizzes and tests. As long as you do not contact him last minute for help he will zoom with you or whatever you need to help you. Interesting class.
This is a film class and you do watch some films in class. It's sociology and crim justice so there are crime topics which is cool. The prof is very interesting. Gets kinda emotional when talking about discrimination and domestic violence and topics like that. Let's you send papers to critique before they're due. Nice break from a "regular" class.
Professor seems on top of things. Answers messages very quickly. Sends lots of reminders. Course is pretty straightforward and prof seems pretty laid back. A lot of it is reading the chapters and memorizing terms. I think there is no group work so that is pretty awesome. No complaints so far.
Great professor, hope to take more of his classes
No a hard grader. He isn't very good at communicating with his students. When asking for help with pretty much catch an attitude and not help. Class was easy, but his lack of communication wasn't good. Releases work on his own schedule, no due date syllabus.
Prof J is great. Took this class bc he was teaching it. Had him f2f last semester. Prob the best online teacher I've had. Gives lots of reminders, reviews, curves, EC opportunity and literally replies to emails within a minute or less. Good class. Will take him again if I can.
hes a great teacher and makes the information relatable/easier to understand. few tests that are easy. gives extra credit practice quizzes
This class was quite enjoyable. If you study his slides well you can definitely pass the class- just understand and memorize the terms. He gives study guides so it's great. He has some mandatory events and if you miss it due to conflicting schedules you have to make it up.
Super easy class because he is really good at making it easy to understand. Attendance is mandatory and you get -2 points when you don't show, so come to class it's not that hard. Personally, did not agree with a lot of the stuff we learned, but had to take it and it was an easy A.
Professor Lopez was an amazing sociology professor. Even though I did not agree with much of the course material, he made it worthwhile and interesting. He is very reasonable, but make sure you come to lectures or you will fail, because each class you skip is 2% off your final grade. His lectures are very informative and helpful for exams.
Overall, this course was pretty easy. If you do take his class, please show up and be on time. He offers extra credit every chapter. Lots of reading but he posts power points. Quizzes are easy. Has mandatory movie night and zoo trip (if you're in learning community). & towards the end of semester you'll have group article review paper.
Prof J is smart, he is helpful and above all he is hilarious and cool to look at and listen too :)
I chose 'no text' but there is some reading material. He provided it for us though. He responds to emails and grades work faster than any professor I've had. Seriously sometimes in under a minute even at night. He gives videos and most of the class is making maps. A couple of mc tests. Doing great so far :) Nice change from "regular" classes.
Professor J is very quick to respond to emails and gives a lot of reminders on Canvas. Makes Canvas very simple, not a lot of buttons and extra stuff, which to me is great. Seems to be a very nice guy. He gives very specific review material. I would recommend.
THIS was a very interesting course. It's almost like playing really slow video games and getting graded. Not sure how noncomputer people would do though. There's reading from a text but he gives it to you and tells you exactly what will be on the 2 MC tests. Mostly just follow videos and make maps. Wish there was a project but it's online course.
Teacher is a bit strange, but a good professor. Attend class and complete assignments for an easy A. Material is straightforward and common sense. Responds quickly to emails and is understanding of students' situations. Just prioritize attendance, participation, and understanding of the material. Provides multiple easy extra credit opportunities.
Professor Lopez is chill, but VERY strict on attendance. You can't be a second late. Other than that its not super lecture heavy but make sure you have good notes for quizzes. Also, the extra credit connect thing is superrr long, so do it in advance and take some notes from it too. Also you only get four extra credit points so be prepared for that.
He is extremely strict about attendance, being on time, and electronics. textbook is online and so are all the homework assignments which are extra credit if all 14 are completed at a reasonable score and turned in on time. he is very funny and makes class entertaining. tests and exams are done at home, as long as you show up on time you will pass.
Online is easy.
Professor J is a quirky but engaging lecturer. Attend class and complete assignments for an easy A. Utilize Unstuck AI and the free textbook to ace the quizzes and exams. The material is straightforward if you keep up with the readings.
Has the worst attitude for no reason
You need to read ahead of time but not that much and it's pretty interesting. He does a good job of making things easier to understand and his background with animals and how much he cares for them is very evident. A few quizzes, a couple of exams, a PPT and a couple of other activities. I liked coming to class. He likes hearing student opinions.
Initially I disliked him a lot, but as the semester went on I grew fond of his assignments. He is extremely tough on grading, you need to format things exactly the way he wants or you will get a zero. He's easy to talk to, but pay close attention to detail!
Initially, I was expecting Prof Lopez to show up in a suit and everything because his earliest emails we're very forward. There are only two main rules in class: don't be late and electronics off. Lectures are so entertaining sometimes you don't even realize you're learning it all. Highly recommended!
At first, Professor Lopez came off as intimidating based on his strict syllabus and clear course guidelines. In actuality, he is one of the most passionate, funny, and interesting instructors I've ever had. His lectures are incredibly entertaining, giving him your undivided attention should be a given. He offers plenty extra credit opportunities :)
My biggest complaint is that he is extremely specific about formatting papers. However, he does let you send him a draft for feedback before turning it in and if you do want he says you're pretty much guaranteed an A or B. There were no lectures, only notes to look at. Tests were timed to about 1 minute per question but he would give a study guide.
Professor Lopez seems intimidating at first, but as long as you show up to class on time you'll be fine. He is very passionate about the subject, which makes it more interesting to learn. There are many extra credit opportunities and he is willing to meet with students outside of class and is quick to respond to emails. I would recommend Lopez.
201S with Professor Lopez was fantastic. He really cares about his students, which can be seen by his almost instant email responses, commenting on each discussion post you submit, and overall willingness to help you succeed. Do the extra credit modules(+5% to your final grade if you complete all), utilize the test reviews, and you will get an A.
I actually liked this class, was scared at first but it wasn't as bad as I thought, however you must read directions carefully and don't be lazy and unmotivated in order to actually be able to complete your assignments in the way they're supposed to be done.
Attendance is mandatory and you'll get two exempt days, don't be late because he will make you sit in the back. He can come off rude but if you're on time and pay attention then he shouldn't give you any problems. He also took us on a zoo trip so this was a fun class
