Worst class ever. Fully online, back to back deadlines with like five things due each deadline. Take it at community college instead, cause this is the hardest class ever. He just posts videos of him talking for like 12 minutes and the textbook reading. Tests are nothing like what he posts. Everyone cries and dies bc of this class. Good luck!
Very challenging class that requires a lot of work. There's a ton of things do back to back and it's extremely important not to put things off till the day before. Problem sets are useless and very math heavy with a lot of parts. It takes hours, then the exams are nothing like it. Don't give up mid course and a B is pretty attainable.
The reason this class is given a bad rating is because people don't take the time to understand the material. It is a very tedious class with many little assignments every week that require you to grasp the concept but overall the material is not hard at all. Very smart prof and can be funny at times but sometimes a jerk/ egotistical in his emails
Course was so painful yet SO GOOD since its so useful in everyday life. I hated how much time it took out of my week bc I could not be the business stereotype that has no HW, BUT it has educated me a lot and im grateful. Dont lose hope bc hes making the course easier for next semesters students bc of the feedback hes received. EZ extra credit
Dr. Meer is a good professor, but do not expect this intro class to be easy. It was quite the pain for me because it is a pre-req for my program. If you do not have to take econ, there are easier classes out there. It felt like a waste of time. Although Dr. Meer clearly cares about his job so as a professor he is good.
If you don't have to take this class DON'T!!! I had to for my major and it was my toughest class. You are given 4-8 quizzes and 30 question problem sets a week which takes HOURS to do and are very difficult. Exams are nothing like the problem sets! Professor doesn't do a good job explaining the material to answer the quiz and problem set questions.
This class is online and asynchronous so I had very few interactions with Meer. There's a lot of work and this will more time than most of your other classes. The problem sets are harder than the exams. Go to the review sessions before the exams and do the practice exams beforehand. If you keep up with your work then you'll get a good grade.
Professor Meer is a great person when you get to know him face to face but it is hard to get used to his teaching style since the class is online. If you are bad at textbook work- good luck. This class is very time consuming and I struggled a LOT and the beginning and pulled it together at the end. Time manage well and study a lot!
this was the hardest & most thought-provoking class I've ever taken. also the most rewarding. approx. 10-12 hours of hw each week, 3 tests, 3-4 discussion posts due each week. prof. explained content very thoroughly and made it as easy to digest as possible. curves on all tests and loads of extra credit. if you get behind, you will fail.
Professor Meer is honestly such an amazing professo. He is so passionate about economics and really goes out of his way to explain things. The class is challenging but people that say he offers no help are really just lying. There are lots of office hours and he posts so many supplemental resources that help a lot. Really loved this class!
Definitely the rewarding class I have taken at A&M. This course requires you to truly understand the content at an extreme depth in order to excel on the tests. Professor Meer makes this class very thought-provoking for a reason, and if you really commit to the course, you will come away with so much knowledge. Attend all optional events, trust me.
There's lots of homework and reading, but it's manageable (coming from a non-business student who has WAY harder classes). Do the extra PackBack each week and all the extra credit as it could help boost your final grade. Use the practice tests to study, and watch all the extra material videos as they really help understand the concepts.
I appreciate how organized Professor Meers classes are and how clear the grading criteria is. However, there are about 3 quizzes a week and problem sets every 1.5 weeks roughly (extremely difficult and not like the quiz material). Take very good notes! Test averages are consistently in the 60s; extra credit is plentiful but barely affects grades.
Not a lot to say about Meer specifically as this class is very large and all online. There was a central ECON 202 email where we communicated with TAs primarily, not himself. Take advantage of office hours and academic success center if you are struggling. Tough class, but if you work hard, you will be fine. Do all the extra credit!
ABSOLUTELY HATED THIS CLASS! A lot of reading! Consists of 3-4 10 question quizzes, 1 quiz that consists of 30-45 questions, 3 discussion post (all this is per week). 3 exams, he does a zoom test review, but it wasn't helpful bc you literally weren't allowed to ask questions that came from the practice exam, or else he wouldn't answer. EXHAUSTING!
My favorite class & professor first semester at A&M. Course material is heavy, but if you work for it an A is attainable. Amazing lectures that make concepts easy to understand.
I greatly enjoyed taking ECON 202 with Professor Meer. Professor Meer repeatedly made time to meet with students outside of class to talk about economics and answer any questions we had on our mind. He cares about his students and provides everything for success. Just make sure that you work on problem sets and study with others in the class.
Put little effort into covering our class. Definitely a weed-out class
Econ is a lot of work, but Meer made it seem natural to me. The class is very conceptual based rather than vocabulary based, so be sure to understand the content. Otherwise, for an online course, it's a bit of work, but the class is easy and he curves the exams. My peers would overreact coming out of the testing room but ended up doing fine.
Professor Meer isn't everyone's favorite but he sure was mine. His lecture videos were very helpful and even though I didn't get a very good grade in the class, I still enjoyed it because of Dr. Meer.
Class is asynchronous so the bulk of the material is learned via video lectures and textbook readings. Exams can be pretty tricky but are doable. To succeed you must thoroughly understand the material, and at times, learning all the rules of logic for this class can be strenuous.
This class was interesting for the most part but there are SO many assignments per week. The tests are pretty hard considering how many conceptual questions there are. There is probably like 7-12 assignments a week but the problem sets take hours to do. Very hard A and little hard to get a B. Lots of extra credit and only reason why I pulled a B
This class has a ton of homework, problem sets, and packback. He gives a lot of extra credit but it doesn't add up to be that much. Professor Meer himself is funny and interesting. Would not recommend taking if you don't know a lot about Econ because its extremely confusing. Tests are hard but he offers good reviews and feedback.
Horrible prof, there are so many weekly quizzes and a problem set due every week. The test's are in person and are very hard. Oh and to mention most of his videos don't help you answer the quizzes!
Prof Meer cares a lot, but the online format is challenging. Had to drop to keep my 4.0. If you can take 202 at CC do it. You're given lots of work throughout the weeks and the exams are pretty challenging. I didn't have the time to fully commit to the class because of my workload It is still possible to succeed if you keep your head down and work
While online classes aren't everyone's favorite, this class made it seem like any other class. Easily one of the best online formats I've done. Professor meer is accessible outside of class and his lectures are straight forward and backed by the reading.
I had to q-drop this class because of how horribly I did on the first exam, even though I studied a week before for hours a day, used all of his resources provided, and even went through private tutoring. The concepts are interesting, but the class structure is awful, and when everyone fails the exams, he blames it on us. Poorly instructed.
This is one of the more difficult classes I've taken at A&M. There is so much work needed to get a good grade and the tests are very hard. Expect 7-12 quizzes a week as well as 1 problem set a week. You'll spend at least 4-5 hours MINIMUM on this class a week. Meer himself is funny and seems like he cares for his students but is also self centered.
All material is taught on Canvas through lecture videos and homework is usually 5 or 10 questions after most videos and then a 30ish question problem set after each module (12 in total). Definetly pace yourself in order to stay afloat or you fall behind pretty fast. Test are challenging but if you review with given material, they become pretty ok
This course was by far the most organized class I've ever taken. There is quite a bit of work but it's the same every week so you just have to get in a grove of it. Exams rely more on intuitive thinking rather than just memorizing graphs and definitions. A lot of people complain about this class but if you do your work an A is very attainable.
Dr. Meer is very difficult. His papers and exams are designed to test your actual understanding of the material, not memorizing. A lot of work, but I have never learned so much from a class. Dr. Meer is hilarious and very sharp and will give very good lectures. If you want to learn a lot, take him. If you want an easy A econ class, look elsewhere.
This is a harder course at Texas A&M, so I recommend taking it at cc rather than at Tamu. I had an extremely horrible experience with this class and the professor. It is coursework heavy, and the exams are very difficult. He is not lenient whatsoever and makes no acceptations. He also blames students for everything and will make you feel bad.
I created a profile because of how much I learned from Prof Meer & his class. This is NOT an online course you can slack on, 2 deadlines per week-- VERY manageable. He offers TONS of tutoring and office hours, so failing/ doing bad only happens if you DON'T care at all. Most complains are from those that continuously ignore his feedback! LOVED IT!
Good proff and cares about course. I got a good grade but put a good amount of time into the class. This class is an easy B if you somewhat study for tests and complete all of the assignments. An A is obtainable for sure but you will have to work hard for it.
This was definitely a tough class that takes a lot of work, but professor Meer's did a great job explaining things in a understandable way and certainly knew what he was talking about. Make sure to keep up with the videos and to takes good notes, and always look over the prior tests he will post on canvas as practice before tests.
Dr. Meer is a good guy, however his class is not so much. Each lecture is about 10 minutes, so you pretty much forget what you learn right after you do the quiz. Expect at least 8 quizzes a week. This is by far one of the worst classes I have had to take, not because I am doing bad, but because no other class I have taken was delivered as poorly.
Professor Meer is a good guy, but the actual class is very difficult. It's easy to get left behind since there's 10 lectures a week, plus an additional 10 quizzes. So the course does require a lot of time, and a lot more effort than the rest of your classes. Honestly, if you could take this course somewhere else like your community college, do it.
Prof Meer is a great guy and will put in the effort to help you as long as you put in the effort to try. This class takes a lot of time. There are at least 8 lectures and quizzes a week. I wouldn't sign up for this class if I had a choice bc of how I struggled, but as long as you put in the effort and take notes, you will know the material.
This class seems to have a bad reputation. Maybe it's because I transferred from engineering, but that class isn't that bad. Maybe about 5-6 hours of homework and week and he supply's practice quizzes for the tests which are a really good way to test preparedness. The online lectures are great, and the textbook helps too. difficulty was a 3/5.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO LEARN ECON. RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF WORK FOR A WEBBASED CLASS. LEARN ON YOUR OWN AND NO HELP FROM MEER. I STRESS TAKE THIS CLASS SOMEWHERE ELSE IF YOU WANT TO PASS WITH A GOOD GRADE. NOT WORTH THE STRESS.
The course content Meer has to teach is pretty difficult if its your first time learning it- so he gets a bad rap. But he really works hard to make modules concise and understandable, and he is really knowledgeable about the course content. He created opportunities to meet him since it is an online course, and really cares about his students.
Meer makes online learning easy with in-depth lecture videos + great textbook. Deadlines M&Th, so pace yourself. Lots of tutoring opportunities, so use those if you need help understanding + extra credit available through Packback. Problem sets are easy if you understand concepts, and exams are only challenging if you don't use any resources.
Professor Meer himself is very good at teaching the material in this class. The lecture videos are very helpful and in depth. He provides practice exams and example questions that I 100% recommend using to study for exams. This class is difficult if you try to skim the material, but as long as you finish assignments on time you will be fine.
Econ 202 was a difficult class, there's a LOT of work each week and the problem sets for each module do take a bit of time but it's really important to know the material before exams, they're not easy. There's extra credit every few weeks but don't count on it raising your grade a lot because it won't.
People make this class out to be harder than it actually is. It could be a bit difficult if you've never taking an Econ course before, but Professor Meer makes it pretty straightforward. 3 tests with around 7 quizzes per week and a problem set. As long as you pace yourself properly it should never feel like too much work. Offers decent extra credit
It's an online class but it works well. There's a lot of ways to learn the information and he provides supplemental content to help with what you need help with. He's active and makes sure you have ways to get help if you need it, it's just up to you to get it. People who complain about him, from my experience, have no reason to do so.
Econ 202 shouldn't be as difficult as this class presents this, but that is mainly due to the online nature of the class. At the start of the semester, work is ok and doesn't seem too bad but near the halfway mark of the semester, it really picks up on the work load. Overall I'd say be wary of this class because it will hit harder than many expect.
Meer expects a lot out of you. Honestly, for me, the tests are the worst part. You can't just "study," you have to be able to apply the concept in every sort of way. I spent a lot of time studying and did pretty bad on the tests, so that shows that it isn't just abt knowing how to do things or knowing definitions. A lot of busy work but not bad.
This class is not as hard as people say. Take the time to understand the content as you go, and use the provided study materials. The TA zooms are helpful for problem sets as well. Meer can come off rude in his emails, but the class is not bad if you put in the work. With that said, if you aren't self-motivated, it will be challenging.
Do not take this class it is not worth it. Only reason I took this class was because its a prerequisite for business, prepare to devote hours upon hours for this class for a decent grade. Do not let the high rating fool you, he doesn't care about his students and tests are very heavily weighted. He even sent us an email about how dumb we were once.
Bruh I'm an econ major and don't want be one because of this class.
Despite our low average on a recent test, he gave a huge curve. The course is not hard, and the resources he provides makes it even easier. He does a great job of teaching concepts, gives extra credit, and is understanding. Weekly deadlines are set at the beginning of the year, so you can work ahead. Join a study group, and you'll do great.
Teaches the best online class I have ever taken. Carves time for students to reach him offline. Takes class and student understanding/effort quite seriously and genuinely gets disappointed when students don't do well. Cares a lot about what he does. Extremely information dense class in the best possible way. Useful for real life.
Discouraging students (EX said my class (1200+) was "not ready for college level success" bc test scores were low instead of self-reflecting and changing videos made years ago, realizing student circumstances, comparing how uncoordinated we are to previous classes), thinks he's a celebrity, passive aggressive emails, HW due on Thanksgiving Day!
I highly recommend taking this course at a community college, and just transferring the credit. This class is so hard, and though my grade isnt too bad, I have fought and battled for it. I just dont think its worth it unless youre required to take this class specifically. It is just annoying and time consuming.
I would not listen to those who say this class is a ton of work. It is a difficult online class that Dr. Meer presents as organized and to-the-point as it gets. Try not to cram all homework into one afternoon and you will be surprised at how simple this class is. If you are organized and not lazy, you will be fine in this class.
Professor Meer does care about his students. The class is some what difficult because it is completely online except exams. I should end with a B in the class but that is some what my fault. You really have to grasp the material to do well on the exams. Meer curved one exam during my semester and always gives extra credit, he is understanding.
This class is challenging but super useful and interesting! Go to informal meetings, office hours and exam reviews! Dr. Meer is very caring and passionate about economics and will be happy to help! Absolutely glad that my introduction to economics began with this class!!
Overall a really good class. I really did learn a lot. If youre used to not working hard dont take this class. It wasnt difficult just a lot of material. Web- based class, quizzes, problem sets, and extra credit is all due on mondays and Thursdays.
Not that hard of a class if you took micro in high school, even though he claims it is not like a high school econ course. He is very full of himself and claims it's our fault that his test grades are low. On the tests, it is difficult to understand what he is asking for some of the questions.
I could not tell you a single thing I learned from this professor. He gave so much work and moved so quickly that I did not get a chance to learn in this class. Even when I felt like I understood the material I still would not do well on the tests.
The lectures are way too short and superficial, so it's definitely the type of class where you have to teach yourself. Course moves very quickly, as we cover 6-8 concepts a week with a quiz for each and a weekly problem set, which is time-consuming and stressful but manageable. In fairness to Meer, he makes himself very accessible to students.
this class consists of more class work then all my other classes combined.
The online structure allows for great flexibility for getting work done, and the organization of the course just makes sense. The instructional videos do a good job of teaching the curriculum, though you might need to use the textbook to supplement your learning. I can't speak to the availability of in person services bc I didn't need them.
Microeconomics is a very hard concept to grasp but professor meer does a great job of explaining in his lecture videos. His class is a hard class but the concepts you learn are very applicable in the real world. He is one of the smartest people I have ever met and there is a lot you can learn from him.
Very poor lectures. They give a very broad understanding of the topic and all tests ask extremely specific questions. Not a good prof.
Not the greatest professor in the world, but if you say you learned nothing from him you're straight up lying or didn't do the work. Tests are harder than the practice tests/review questions so get ready for that. Confusing wording on quiz questions/test questions so read over and over and make sure you understand what he's asking.
This class is definitely difficult- there's a lot of work and you can't memorize things to do well, you have to truly understand all the material thoroughly. That being said, Dr. Meer puts so much effort into being accessible and helping as much as he can. It's definitely a hard class but the information you learn is clearly valuable and applicable
This class is extremely overhyped in difficulty and an A is extremely attainable if you put in the effort. Professor Meer is such a good lecturer and makes it easy to grasp the concepts. Study for the tests a week in advance and maximize your scores on quizzes/ problem sets; you will be just fine.
This course had lots of work and was very time consuming, with around 8-10 assignments a week all based on textbook readings. The assignments and exams started off easy but progressively got harder. There is also 2 packbacks due Thursdays. Overall, Meer made it very interesting with his videos and made effort to communicate with his students.
this class is ridiculously hard. i went to office hours twice a week and still consistently failed the quizzes. there was even stuff due on thanksgiving. the emails are very condescending. "if more than 2% of the class asks a question that is answered in this email, i will cut the curve in half for the entire class". don't take this class at tamu
I want to start out by saying professor Meer is an awesome dude and a really great professor. He truly wants the best for his students. This class is challenging, however, an A is attainable. The grade distribution for the course is favorable and extra credit is offered. The exams are mildly challenging. I recommend studying a week in advance
If you see this DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS at a&m. Unfortunately Meer is the only professor that teaches this class and does barely anything to accommodate our questions and finds us rather foolish if we do have questions. This class I spent everyday of my first semester doing, and regret not taking it over the summer.
In emails, he sounds very condescending which can put many people off. When studying for exams, make sure to do the sample exams and join the zoom review. This class is very difficult so make sure to read the textbook.
Professor Meer is genuinely a great dude! Even though I only got a B in this class, I still enjoyed it. Be prepared to do lots of quizzes, problem sets each week. There were 3 exams in total and they were hard. 31.5% of my class earned an A, and there were 1700 people in my class. So if you study hard enough, an A is obtainable.
Professor Meer was a very good econ professor. While the class was online, his lecture videos really helped students grasp the concepts. This class was definitely not easy, as there are many assignments due every week, but it is manageable if you stay on top of things.
Do not be intimidated by what people say about Professor Meer or his class. If you stay on top of the homework and study before the exams, an A is very attainable. I highly recommend you attend his weekly coffee times, he is truly a respectful, intelligent professor who welcomes any questions and will put in effort to help his students succeed.
Professor Meer is super smart, but condescending in his emails which was not appreciated. This class is an easy B but a difficult A, you need to put in the work. The material is laid out very clearly. The tests are difficult, so study well for them. Overall, I feel like I learned a lot in this class, but it was a challenge to get an A.
The class was difficult for me but due to a favorable curve, I was able to finish with a B. I do not personally benefit from online learning and if you struggle to be proactive I do not recommend taking this course at A&M. Dr. Meer was condescending and narcissistic and quick to put blame on others. This personally did not sit well with me.
Dr. Meer is a great professor. You definitely need to put in the effort to get an A in this class. There are 3 exams comprising about 55% of the course grade. There are a lot of opportunities for extra credit and office hours. His lecture videos are comprehensive and textbook reading is required. I enjoyed taking this class.
This class is difficult for no reason. This class is essentially just modules of videos/quizzes, Packback, and 3 exams. The exams are tougher than expected and at horrible times (7:10pm or 8:40pm). He ends up curving the class at the end. Make sure to do a third Packback every week to get the extra credit. Doable with the correct amount of effort.
There is a lot of work for this class; 1 homework per chapter and a problem set at the end of each module. The only extra credit is by making a 3rd Packback post (DO IT, IT ADDS UP). Tests are difficult, but the practice exams and his Zoom review session the night before the test are extremely helpful. Not impossible to get an A if you do the work.
He's a wonderful teacher! He creates a bunch of lecture videos with tons of supplementary videos to explain topics from multiple perspectives and he always reserves time to speak with us. He also provides plenty of practice questions and exams. It can be overwhelming if you're not on top of your homework, but it prepares you very well for exams.
Professor Meer's Econ 202 class is crammed with tons of material, however, it is essential to stay ahead in this class. If you make an effort to learn, it is nearly impossible to do badly in this course, as there are many opportunities to meet with the prof. or TA to get extra help. This class is not as challenging as people say it is, good luck.
Don't get me wrong, this is a challenging course, however, it is completely doable as long as you put the work in. Professor Meer provides great lectures and is almost always available to help students outside of class. I would most definitely recommend his class to anyone with a good work ethic.
Take this at your community college, so much work per week that you can never get ahead. Don't like this Professor. Do EVERY single extra credit assignment to get an A and go to tutorials for problem sets. Use Marginal Revolution University videos to understand material more. Tests are really hard and questions are unlike quizzes or homework asmts.
Only met professor Meer once since it is an online course and it is clear he loves what he does. All the videos were easy to follow and the assignments were exactly what we learned in the videos.
Jonathan Meer himself is a pretty great professor. You'll succeed if you properly set aside time for his lectures and readings. But the amount of work given can be somewhat overbearing at times. Just make sure to keep up with the homework; otherwise, you'll fall behind really quickly.
Professor Meer is an excellent teacher. His videos are clear to understand if you pay attention. Don't let anybody scare you away because this is an online course. There is homework, but it is completely manageable if you give this class the same amount of time you would any other in-person class. The practice exams are the MOST helpful!!!!
Take this class at the community college level. He knows his stuff, that is for certain. However, you will be drowned in homework and problem sets if you do not get ahead of it and complete within time. YOU WILL BE CHALLENGED. Overall, I am sure he is a nice dude, but in my opinion, he does not know how to manage an online class well.
Professor Meer is awesome! He's very intelligent and really cares about the students he's teaching. It's difficult to be personable in a class of 2000, and he does it! He has weekly coffee shop hours that you can attend and ask him anything, which few people ever attend. The course is challenging, but Meer absolutely makes it doable.
Meer is a really good lecturer. He ties in examples that actually make sense and are applicable to things I can relate to (tacos). The practice exams help so so much and the homework really isn't all too bad - just a lot of it. Highly recommend him though.
Awesome guy with insightful lectures! The information was interesting and presented in easy to understand ways. But this class was more work than almost any other class I have ever taken. You cannot fall behind. It took so much time and there is help if you need it but I cannot seem to excel on the exams so all my hard work will probably get me a B
If you stay on schedule you should be completely fine getting an A. There are 2-4 modules due each week, which includes a lecture video (only 5-10 min each), textbook excerpt, and a graded quiz (10 questions). There is 1 graded problem set due each week (20-30 questions). There are also 2 packback posts due each week. Lastly, are 3 tests overall.
Everyone says Meer is very passive-aggressive and arrogant, but I think that pertains to people who don't put in any effort. Yes, the exams are difficult, but they are concept based. If you can make it through the quizzes and problem sets each week then the exams aren't the end of the world. This is coming from one who made a 70 on the first exam!
Despite what I read on here before, this class is NOT an easy A. It is so so much work and the test averages have been pretty low. Because the exams are intense you can do well in the other areas of the class and still not get an A bc of the tests. Interesting subject but get ready to work. A lot. I mean a lot.
You may be worried about Econ 202 but it is manageable. Meer makes himself available to you even though it is an online course so if you ever need help reach out. The biggest thing is to stay on top of the homework and videos. Use the practice exams he posts and the tests will not surprise you. Do the PackBack extra credit it's worth 1% point.
Not a difficult class at all. Dr. Meer is frustratingly arrogant and condescending. He tries to make an easy class difficult by assigning an inordinate amount of busy work: 4 lecture videos, 8 textbook sections, 4 quizzes, a problem set, and 2 PackBack posts due on any given Monday or Thursday.
I loved this class so much! Yes it seems like a lot of work every week, but it is very manageable and not hard. Just watch the lecture videos and read the textbook and you will be good! Professor Meer is a great professor and is actually the reason I switched my degree to economics!
Professor Meer is amazing. A lot of people are intimidated by his assertive personality, but he truly cares about his students. His cafe office hours are a great way to meet him and made him more personable. Exams are not cumulative, but there is a lot of homework. You get what you put in.
Noice
Good Prof! I took the class online which had weekly quizzes and problem sets. We also used Packback weekly. Class had 3 exams. Overall a good class but you do have to study! This class really taught me economics!
I found the class fairly easy despite some of the reviews. If you want to get an A in this class actually listen to the online lectures, take notes, do the extra credit, go over the test review and practice questions, and study for like two days before the test. Just don't get behind! Meer is super passionate and a great professor.
Very good, very hard
Cried to my mommy about this prof. Absolutely horrible. Made me change majors. I took this class in fall 2022 and I still get nightmares about this class. Save yo self and yo brain and take this class through blinn. I'm a pretty smart kid ngl graduated top 10% and overall a hard worker. THIS CLASS THO made me vomit and cry DONT TAKE IT DONT TAKE IT
Bro is full of himself for no reason. Half of his students are failing and dislike him, yet he still is acting like he's the best prof at TAMU. To put it in simple words, don't take this class, you can thank me later.
Wow bottom comments are crazy. This class was pretty hard especially since most of the students were freshmen who didn't know how to take a college class just yet.Format of this class is like an AP classJust study a lot get ahead ask for help if you don't think you'll succeed then take it through blinn for the credit
Lots of hw but very VERY manageable if u just do a little everyday. Tests are challenging but if u just actually study using the old test he gives u and actually learn how to do the weekly hw instead of copying from someone else itll be so much easier. GO TO THE IN PERSON STUDENT HOURS, the TAs are SO helpful and will teach u literally everything!!
The class is really easy as long as you use every resource he provides - and DO the extra credit there is absolutely no reason not to. The hardest part is the exams - his questions are tricky sometimes, but they're not hard if you've practiced on the practice exam. Don't slack because it's an online class.
Professor Meer has lecture videos, but most of the course work comes out of the textbook. He assigns a load of weekly work to complete, and His quizzes and tests are VERY difficult as well.
holy smokes bro, this class is the worst. cool teacher, dr. meer is a funny guy who i respect but I have nothing good to say about this class other than congrats, you now know some fundamentals of economics. Hard, unforgiving class. Good luck finding free time.
Dr. Meer is a cool guy, he definitely is a bit passive-aggressive, but I think that's just his personality, and once you get used to it, it becomes funny. This class is a smack in the face to freshmen who aren't yet accustomed to the workload of college. This class will show you if you're ready to commit to a degree in economics.
This is a tough class to take as a freshman, however if you have any common sense and can deduce through answers using logic its a very easy class since the concepts are so rudimentary. The best advice I have is to not get behind on lectures and quizzes, read the required readings, study the past tests he releases and you'll make a B.
I actually love Meer so much he is a dope guy and is super funny. If you don't like him its because he's right and you cant handle it.
Prof Meer is a great professor that shows a lot of genuine care for the improvement of his students education. On the other hand the class he teaches is a hard to understand one and for someone like me who likes definite answers economics is a lot more challenging. Overall a hard class with a great teach just stay on top of homework and tests.
His lectures are very good and are easy to follow. The workload is pretty heavy, but it made it easier to grasp the information after a lot of practice. The tests are a bit challenging which is why I didn't receive the grade I wanted. Overall a great guy who wants the best for his students.
If you're not an ECON/math-oriented person, get ready to suffer. Meer is an excellent instructor who knows what he's doing but the class is pretty hard work - and a lot of it. He's there to help and passionate abt the subject, but his arrogant and condescending nature can be intimidating. It's a manageable class but not easy at all.
The online structure of this class makes it difficult to follow along with the class content and makes it hard to learn the content, so if you like in-person classes you should not take this class or try to take it online at Blinn or a community college.
Jonathan Meer is definitely not for everyone. He can give off the vibe of a big ego but it didn't ever really bother me. He's a smart guy and he knows it yk. The class is incredibly well organized and there are lots of additional tools. It is admittedly a pretty good amount of work. Lots of videos and small quizzes. Tests are pretty hard too; study
This class is honestly not that bad if you stay ahead of your work and don't put it off until the day it's due. Also, take advantage of the TA office hours because they can check your assignments before you submit them, which is a game changer! His lecture videos aren't that long or boring.
The class is not too bad as long as you stay on top of your work. I took this class to fulfill a core credit, and I would not recommend it because the course is just busy work. However, if you have to take this class, Dr. Meer is a good teacher and you can tell he cares about all 800+ of his students and wants you to succeed.
Initially I heard bad things about this professor, but I was pleasantly surprised. The course material is fairly straight-forward. The readings fill in gaps and provide more explanation than the video lectures, but both are great resources. Just make sure to stay up to date on assignments. Professor is eloquent and clearly knows the material.
I'm not sure why people rated this class so poorly, but this was one of my favorite classes by far. I actually learned something useful and the course was super easy to follow. Professor Meer was amazing with this class and you can tell how much passion and dedication he has for economics. Don't be scared to take this class at all!
He's a great prof, and I loved his class. With his impressive background he often forgets that not everyone is a genius, so lectures usually aren't enough to solidify your understanding of the topics. I spent the most time on this class I've ever spent on one, trying to secure the A, and still really might end with a B.
Lots of busy work
Dr. Meer is one of the most educated and organized professors that I have had at TAMU and his course reflects that. It was challenging, but as long as you stay on top of it, he gives you everything you need to succeed and the course was interesting and thought-provoking. He is also available outside of class and is a great person to talk to!
Dr. Meer's page is an example of how immature and petty a failing college student can be. So many complaints about his character I just don't get. Dr. Meer's lectures thoroughly explain the concepts you need to succeed while being objectively funny. If you can't do well in ECON 202 with Dr. Meer maybe college isn't for you (sorry not sorry).
This class can be difficult, but it really all depends on your work ethic. There are a lot of things due weekly, but if you set aside time each day to do the work, you will get it done in plenty of time. His lecture videos are very helpful, and the textbook readings help also. The tests can be difficult, but he provides plenty of prep material.
This class can be difficult so it is important to manage your time. Meer is knowledgeable and passionate but doesn't dumb things down. He also provides lots of resources to ensure you have everything you need to succeed. The content itself is interesting and thought-provoking. Overall you can succeed as long as you stay on top of the coursework.
Since this an online test you always had a lot of work to do, which wasn't the problem for me, the thing that bothered me was his lecture videos were not very helpful. He's not super accessible to meet up with out of class either. Get ready to teach yourself a lot of econ and not do as well as you would hope on tests.
Very tough class, as tests are very difficult. If you study are put in alot of time, it will help alot.
Professor Meer has a very strong personality, and you can tell he really knows what he's talking about, and he's also really funny. This class is difficult, and the tests are hard, but it is manageable as long as you study and do the extra credit. Do not be scared to take this class; just be prepared to put a lot of work into it.
So much work but plenty of resources. Read the textbook AND watch the videos. Meer is egotistical but a great and thorough professor. GET A GOOD STUDY GROUP. If you do the problem sets together/discuss it thoroughly, it will really benefit your Econ202 experience. He takes forever to grade exams. Exam 1 took three weeks. Don't get behind.
This class is not easy. There is a lot of work, and the tests are difficult, but if you put aside time each day to do a little bit of work and studying, you will be fine. Dr. Meer is extremely smart, but he does not dumb things down in this class, he makes you earn your grade. Put in the work, and this class is very rewarding.
Meer's condescending attitude towards his students doesn't help w how hard his class is. Tests are difficult with an unnecessary amount of time-consuming work due every monday and thursday. Get ready to teach yourself some difficult concepts that he doesn't explain very well in the videos from a few years ago. Bro does nothing all day imo.
This class will challenge you. I learned so much through it and felt that it was very applicable. Prof. Meer can be intimidating to some but he knows what he's talking about and is highly respected for it. Be ready to work and don't get behind; Monday and Thursday come quick. Also, utilize the help from TA's and office hours!!
The class isn't easy but is very doable depending on the effort you put in. He is a great professor that teaches the concept really well. Just watch the lectures and read the textbook as well while also doing homework and you should be good.
Meer is a sarcastic guy who isn't afraid to say what he wants. The material is hard, so be ready to read and study a LOT. He does provide good resources for studying, so don't be afraid to get help or work with others. He's not a bad guy, but people resent him because of the difficulty of the course. You can make an A if you're prepared to work.
Getting an A is extremely hard in this class but is possible with a lot of effort. There are multiple quizzes, lectures, pacbacks, textbook readings, and a problem set due each week. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! I have definetly learned a lot in this class and economics is very interesting. The material builds up so do NOT fall behind. Try and get ahead!
you have to be organized and work ahead. 202 can be hard but very doable to get an A if you don't slack off. he's super passive aggressive over email but going to his coffeeshop office hours humanizes him a lot. he's super helpful with understanding concepts which is necessary for this class, memorizing doesn't work. DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT+PACKBACK.
This is a completely online class, so you have to read the textbook and watch the lecture videos if you want to succeed. Meer wants his students to succeed, so he offers lots of opportunities for tutoring and help. The problem is that 2,000+ students take this class, so getting help takes a lot of time. Stay on top of the work load!!
Know the resources you have for this class, there is TA who help with assignment questions. Class is lecture heavy so be ready to read. He gives out a lot of homework that consist of quizzes and problem sets so keep up with the work. As long as you do good in the homework, you'll pass the class. The exams are not quite what you'd expect.
There was a lot of homework that needed to be completed every week that was just quizzes and then a discussion post. Although it seemed like a lot of work, I honestly probably put in like 4 hours a week into everything and ended up with an A in the class. Professor Meer also offers extra credit which is super helpful and could turn a B into an A.
This course was difficult so utilize the TA's and other resources given to you. Meer is super passive-aggressive and has high expectations for his students so be ready. I didn't do too well on the tests but kept up with all the homework and extra credit, bringing me to an A in the end. If you do the work, you will pass.
This class is no joke. You have to go in guns ablazing and take it seriously or you will get behind. Prof Meer is an expert, explains concepts well, and is very accessible. Weekly work consists of about 8 modules, a problem set, and a packback. A module consists of a 5-10 min lecture video, 1-2 textbook readings, optional content, and a short quiz.
Prof. Meer is a great prof, and this online course that handles about 2000 students is set up so incredibly well! Many resources available, and structured to easily keep up with work. Self paced, so be disciplined and use the practice exams to study for tests! I did learn about econ, although dif. than in-class setting. Go meet Meer at least once!!
I am a business major and must take this class freshman year. I'll be honest here, this class is not for everyone, it requires the student to be highly interested in econ in general. I did horrible on the first exam but did good on the rest of them, still managed to get an A but didn't learn. Prof Meer is a meme among all business/econ students.
Death by work. This class was offered online whenever I took it as a freshman and it was an insane amount of work for an ECON class that means so little on a grand scale. The professor was unreachable due to there being hundreds of students in the class so there was no help.
This class is awful and is going to stress you out greatly I recommend taking some where else.
Honestly, most of the negative reviews here are insane. No, you cannot blow-off this class and if you expected a class to be a blow-off then you should reconsider your approach to college immediately. Took this class freshman year with very little economics knowledge and made an A. Just read the book, watch the lectures, and find supplements.
I really really hated this class, and him and his crappy jokes about tacos its just all so dumb he gives you so so much work and the exams are even harder def recommend taking this course at community college since he is the only one here at tamu.
Love this professor!! This class is a confidence boost. Yes there is stuff due twice a week but it's expected because it is an online class so it is just the same as having to attend lecture and work on homeworks. Super concise teaching and honestly comes as common sense. Tons of material prep for exams given.
Meer's class as a whole has a reasonable difficulty and workload, though the way his questions are worded on assignments and exams can be rather confusing. Oftentimes it's unclear what he's asking for and multiple answers are ambiguous. Meer does have a clear passion for economics (and breakfast tacos) though!
Ve aware that you will need to put in a very substantial amount of effort if you want to make a decent grade. Do not take unless you absolutely need to.
JONNY MEER!!!! His class is not that difficult if you enjoy economics and can memorize everything in the videos/textbook and logically understand the main concepts. (marginal benefit must always equal marginal cost)
If possible, do everything in your power to not take this class at A&M. For an introductory class, Dr. Meer's class is extremely homework heavy. Dr. Meer does have a few options for class help, however, the TA's for this class were extremely unhelpful, and were rude during a few of the tutoring sessions. The exams for this class were Thurs. at 7pm.
Professor Meer is a very good teacher and has all of his lectures prerecorded online. The exams are very difficult and conceptual, but that is the nature of economics. The online "lectures" his teaching videos are very concise and homework is manageable. Commit yourself to understanding the intuition behind what is said because that is NECESSARY.
For an online class it was super well organized. Definitely go to the tutoring sessions, I could have made an A if I had started to go sooner. He has good reviews for tests and plenty of online examples.
The online format is pretty strange for the class. Lots of homeworks and lecture videos to watch. Can come off as a little condescending sometimes in his emails. Passionate about economics, but expects his students to be pretty much just as passionate and intelligent as him. Make sure to devote a lot of time to the class and study a ton.
Although this class has a lot of work, it is very doable. Professor Meer provides SO many resources to help including practice exams very similar to the actual exams. You MUST watch the lectures and understand them to do well in this class. Lots of extra credit opportunities but a very time consuming class.
class is tough, lots of time is needed to complete all assignments given - around 5 homeworks due a week, and a packback - do the packbacks!! easy credit points. tests are hard but he gives you plenty of study material, and test grades are heavily weighted in overall grade, so try to do well on them. he offers lots of resources - utilize them
Amazing Professor! Knows the ins and outs of the subject and how to teach it. An online course so work-heavy but if you stay consistent and put in about an hour a day you'll be fine. He made the subject so interesting and fun and brought unique perspectives to what would be a basic course. Would definitely recommend. Get ready to work and enjoy it.
I was told horror stories about this course but IT IS NOT HARD AT ALL IF YOU PUT IN EFFORT. Everything is laid out perfectly in the course to get an easy A if you do what is required. It is very time-consuming, but not difficult. and economics is a great skill you can use in your everyday life. Also, GO TO WEEKLY ZOOMS for help on problem sets!!!
The worst part about this class is the fact that it's online and sometimes the professor doesn't give explanations that make sense, also there's SO much homework/busy work. If you do ALL the work + extra credit (super easy) you have a higher chance to get an A. The tests are very similar to practice exams. Stay on top of your work.
Course homework is not too hard, but better be ready for the tests. Class average in my class was an 80.
If you can take this class elsewhere I would, but its not a crazy hard class. If you study like at all a B shouldn't be too hard to get. Boring material, but it's required for a lot of majors so it is what it is.
Don't be scared to take this class. If you do the work and study a lot for the exams you will be fine. The course load wasn't as bad as people are saying. I didn't bother with the optional learning content and did fine without it. Professor Meer is organized and did a good job by being accessible and offering outside help. Overall, I recommend!
His class is not hard as long as u watch his 10 min lectures and understand the content. If u just memorize, you'll do bad on the exams as they're VERY application based. There is a TON of easy extra credit (also lowered the grade letter cutoff at the end), and he's super accessible. Overall it's super interesting and I loved the class.
Professor Meer sends passive-aggressive emails that belittle students when the exam scores are not up to his standards. Exams are extremely difficult, and most questions have multiple correct answers, forcing you to pick the "right" one. Homework load is intense, and Professor Meer does not want you to do well in his class.
Lots of online assignments. Yes the class is online but it's VERY challenging. Tests are a big portion of grade. DO NOT procrastinate class and make sure to watch every video thoroughly.
Listen to his lecture videos, take notes, read the textbook, take notes, take a quiz over the module (in which he penalizes you by 50% for each attempt on a question, you only get two attempts per question). He gives you a problem set of 40 questions. Everything is taken for a grade. He is very pretentious and rarely answers any questions we ask.
Prepare to work hard in this class, but the material is engaging. Use unstuckstudy ai and the textbook to supplement Professor Meer's lectures. Exams are challenging, so stay on top of the coursework. Overall, a rewarding experience.
great time
Hated his lectures. It was a do it at your own pace kinda class. Also didn't like how the exams were at 8PM. ECON is hard all together but he lecture videos were so boring and hard for me to understand.
This class is AWFUL. Studying all day and all night and working 24 hours a week. Given quizzes immediately after a 10-MINUTE video lecture. Given "pre-tests" that are harder than the exam and incomprehensible. 9 quizzes a week. Students are constantly looking for a tutor to help them in this class and tutors can't figure some of these answers out.
Ok, people are being extremely hyperbolic about Meer. It's a normal amount of work (prob 8 hours a week), people just freak out and act like he's assigning 10 billion quizzes because it's an at your pace course and, shocker, freshman college students procrastinate. Study the past exams he provides, they are identical. It will be fine.
He assigns SO MUCH work so don't take a bunch of classes if you need to take this course. Not super hard but so much busy work and you do have to actually put in the work to do well on the in person exams for an online class. Do NOT take this class unless you have to, good luck!
Many people are complaining. This is a college class, it was expected to be difficult. Meer outlines his assignments in the syllabus and provides LOTS of ways to study for the exams. We had "quizzes" and chapter to read every week. The class is easy to get by as long as you stay on top of your work and study properly.
One of the most clear professors I have ever had. Every deadline and test was clearly explained and he reminded you often. Also accessible weekly outside of class and very knowledgeable about the material. Just watch all the videos, don't skip them even though it will make HW faster, and you will be fine.
This class isn't necessarily hard, just A LOT of work. I would not recommend this class if you're a freshman who's still adjusting to college. There's 10+ assignments a week with a lot of reading and watching videos. Exams are hard. Lots of homework and not enough time for other classes. Hard to time manage this class with other classes.
He provides many tools to assist you in the class. The course is challenging, being conducted entirely online, with three in-person exams. There are quite a few students enrolled. Additionally, online homework is assigned twice a week. Typically, there's one module each week that includes required readings and lecture videos.
Dr. Meer is incredibly smart and kind. He is very interested in economics and wants you also to be interested. The course is heavy on homework, and you must read the textbook to succeed. He tries his best to make lectures engaging and grows on you throughout the year.
Everything is online, but there are many chances to meet the Professor and TA's. Class is very well structured and organized, and he provides you with everything you need for success. Lots of homework, but you don't have an actual class to attend.
Meer is an amazing professor and he gives you so many tools for success you just have to use them. GO TO TA TUTORING it is extremely helpful on the difficult problem sets, you should get a 100 or close to it on all of them if you go. This class is difficult and A LOT of work but if you put the effort in, an A is extremely possible.
Dr. Meer provides ample resources to perform well, such as a bank of practice questions and two practice exams for each test. The quizzes and problem sets reflect how you will do on the tests and if you utilize all the resources, success is achievable. While an online class, tests are in person and the workload is sizeable so stay on top of it.
People who find this course difficult likely just struggled to treat it like an actual course, as opposed to a blow off. Don't let it being online trick you, it still requires the same amount of time and dedication as an in person class. As long as you do that, you will be fine. An A is very achievable, and none of the exams were too difficult.
Dr. Meer is a very clear professor. Assignments follow the same format every week, and problem sets can be completed in groups. As long as you study (which he gives copious resources for) and understand the material he's teaching, you will get an A.
Take this class elsewhere if you can. Unless you are an economist, tests are extremely difficult and impossible to do good on no matter how much you study. There are way too many assignments for this class. TAMU needs to get another professor and an in person class ASAP. Do not recommend this class at all!
The class isn't that bad, just go to office hours and the TA's will explain the problem sets and give you the answers. If you just do the practice exams and you'll do fine on the exams, get around an 85. Shoutout Jordan my favorite TA
This class killed me. SO MUCH work. I did so bad on the exams and I studied SO MUCH. I did everything that I could and it still wasn't good enough. This class is required for businesses students, which sucks so I wish everyone luck. There is extra credit, but I'm not sure how much it actually helps. DEFINITELY GO TO OFFICE HOURS FOR HELP.
Treat this class the same as an in-person one. There are multiple assignments due each week. Do them early, so you have time for your problem sets or office hours for help. Practice tests are akin to the real thing. Dr. Meer is a great prof and funny, loved his dry sense of humor. There are several resources for anyone to do well in this class.
Don't let anyone scare you; Meer is a great prof. It's online, so people slack off and don't do their work, and it shows in their grades. If you take time to truly understand and internalize the information, you will succeed. Meer offers the MOST studying resources of any prof I've had and has so many opportunities to meet in person for help.
This class is pretty test heavy but the tests aren't even that bad as some people make it out to be. He posts sample tests that are tests from previous years to help you study so theres no reason why you should fail a test if you looked over these. Since it's online, its easy to slack off but if you put in the work you will get an A or B.
The class wasn't nearly as bad as former students made it out to be. Meer provides plenty of resources to help you, so I suggest using as many as you need. Watch the videos, read the required textbook sections, go to the TAs to check your problem set, and you'll be fine. While I never got to see Meer at his hangouts, he seems like a cool guy!
People are overreacting. Yes, the class is a lot of work but it is literally designed for you to succeed if you do everything that's asked of you. Use the sample exams for test prep, go to tutoring, and take notes on all of the required material and you will be fine. It's a super interesting class! I loved the content and he seems like a cool guy!
This class is not easy no work, but if you put in a decent amount of effort, do your assignments, take notes during the online video lectures, ACTUALLY read the excerpts from the textbook, then you most definitely WILL succeed. He also does countless office hours and even has TA's available almost 24/7.
Dr. Meer is a great professor with his lectures being descriptive and providing examples. There is a very decent amount of workload, but he's very accessible if you need help. Exams are easy to study for, as he provides lots of tools and practice exams for you to get an A. Overall great professor who cares about his students understanding concepts.
Professor Meer was great! I think he did a very good job of making economics make sense. He provides so many resources, so if you have the drive, getting an A is very attainable. He is a little passive aggressive sometimes in his emails, so try to find the answer on your own before emailing him.
Despite what some people say, I actually like professor Meer, he gives lots of material to help students that need it. Go to his in person review sessions before the test and make sure you know the practice exams he gives you, the tests are similar. There is lots of homework, so be ready to put aside some time for his class.
The content in this class is really interesting, I genuinely would enjoyed the class if it was in person. He test heavy and he is there to trick you. I don't thinks that is bad I just didn't like it because I felt very insecure. I just felt I needed to know things before entering this course, Im not an econ nor a business.
I took macro in highschool so a lot of it was review. GO TO THE TA'S FOR THE PROBLEM SETS they literally will push your grade from a B to an A. Don't wait till the last day to study and do the past exams they are almost identical to half of the exam. The textbook is really good for the concepts you don't understand or else I wouldn't read it
Everyone on campus has a story with Jonathan Meer. He is not a bad professor, per say, he is just here to trick you (regardless of what he says that he's not- he 100% is). I wouldn't necessarily say I'm bad at econ, his tests were just so hard. Do all the extra credit, and DONT PROCRASINATE. If you take anything from this, please let it be that.
Would not recommend taking this class at A&M. This class should be in person and is way to hard for online learning. There is no way to tell your grade until the very end. Take it at a community college if you can. Meer is passive aggressive but makes himself available. To be honest, wouldn't recommend.
This is the worst class I have this semester. SO much homework. TAMU NEEDS an in person class. Tests are super hard and this entire semester I haven't understood a single thing. Meer is decent and definitely tries to help, but this class is way too hard for online imo. HE ALSO DOESN'T TELL YOU YOUR GRADE UNTIL THE END
Don't listen to the hate on Professor Meer; he is one of the most helpful professors I've ever taken a course from. There are tons of extra credit opportunities, practice tests that basically tell you what is on the exams, and Meer lets you know way ahead of time how to succeed in his course. Put in an honest effort and you'll succeed in his class.
This class was a bit annoying with how much homework there is. However it actually makes you learn the material with the amount of questions you have to answer. It wasn't necessarily super hard, and professor Meer gives plenty of resources for you to succeed. My advice would be to work ahead so you don't fall behind.
This class is challenging if you aren't willing to put in the work study for the tests and do all the assignments. He does give you and tell you how to succeed but it all depends on how much effort you are willing to give. It's possible to do well, so make sure to do ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT, it helps you till the last second.
Professor Meer is honestly a teacher who is highly knowledgeable in economics. Class is very homework-heavy but is manageable. His lectures are videos and are very clear and easy to understand. Make sure to do the pack back extra credit. Overall, easy to get an A if you get high grade on homework. Exams are challenging but manageable if you study.
Professor Meer is a really good, he understands the concepts he is teaching and he does a good job of using real world examples to help you understand. The class is an online class and you can work ahead (you should). Be sure to do all of the extra credit. Even though Meer is very good, the class is still challenging so work hard.
more work came from this class than my other three classes combined. the material itself is not too hard to learn, but it's so hard to not fall behind that it can force you to not grasp some concepts as well. professor meer does know his stuff, but he is SO feisty, pretentious and egotistical that it hurts. take the class somewhere else if you can.
Be prepared to work in this class. This is the only professor that teaches it and it is only an online class. In all honesty he is not as bad as people make him sound. The class suffers more from being online than from him really. If I can advise you one thing is time management seriously. Divide up each weeks work throughout the week.
This class had so much homework attached to it, I would often spend upwards of 7 hours a week on this course because of the sheer amount of work. However, if you take good notes and watch every lecture video, this class will not be difficult, you just have to be ready to work. If you have good time management, this class if for you.
Really hard class and a lot of the exam is conceptual with barely any math involved. He is the only professor who teaches this class so good luck. You will almost never see the professor and his TA's are the ones present during exams.
This class is not as difficult as many people make it out to be. However, time management is crucial, as success in this class largely depends on your understanding of the concepts. Pay attention during the video lectures and put in the effort to grasp the material covered in the homework assignments. Doing the extra credit also would not hurt.
One of the most difficult but most rewarding classes I have taken. Study study study, but and A is possible. My class had about a two point curve at the end. GO CHECK YOUR PROBLEM SET with the tutors.
You get what you put in for this class. If you study, an A is very achievable and manageable in this class.
The material itself is not too difficult if you put in the work required to understand it, but the professor is egotistical and somewhat difficult to work with. Use the resources provided in order to understand the material given.
He gets alot of hate, but its just a hard class. Seems like a cool guy (online class) who loves economics. Just make sure to not skip over the videos and try your best to read the chapters he assigns, it will be annoying and time consuming but it will get you an A or B.
I did not enjoy this class whatsoever. Be prepared for an insane amount of work. He does provide extra credit and meet ups outside of class. The test were very difficult. Not enjoyable AT ALL.
I almost dropped this class after reading the reviews on this page about him. HE IS NOT THAT BAD. He's actually good at teaching and I ended up with an A, and I got a B- in AP macroeconomics. Just watch the videos, sometimes the chapters attached are repetitive. The practice exams were slightly harder than the tests, GREAT PREP!! Don't be scared.
To get a good grade in this class you must understand the concepts. Read the textbook that is what got me through the class. Go to the TA hours for problem sets they will help so much. This class has a lot of work simply because it is online. You will have about 4 modules a week and a 30 question problem set. You cannot cut corners in this class.
Online course but 3 exams in person. Exams were fairly difficult, beware of A LOT of online quizzes, online tests, and packbacks. A lot of repetitive busy work, not a lot learned.
Very interesting class. The workload can seem like a lot at times because both lectures + homework are online, but it is not that bad. As long as you get the work done you'll be fine.
Be ready to make a schedule for doing all your homework. I had on average 4 assignments due every Monday and Thursday, so 8 total for the week. This consisted of about a 10 minute lecture video, reading a section from the textbook, and usually a 10 question quiz; and that's all for ONE assignment. DO the extra credit he offers!! You will need it.
Dr. Meer is a great lecturer! His online course was definitely workload heavy and the material was at times challenging to grasp. Problem sets are the hardest part of the course, whereas exams are pretty doable. Go to review sessions before exams and focus on practice exams as they are pretty similar to the real one. Many concepts repeat!!
Lots of homework. I had at least 4 assignment due every Monday and Thursday, so 8 for a week. That consisted of a 10 minute lecture video, reading a section of the textbook, and usually a 10 question quiz; and that's all for ONE assignment. DO the extra credit! You'll need it. Exams can be difficult but he provides study material.
Great professor for it being an online class. Lectures are pretty straightforward. Did slack off a little bit which led to me getting a C. Not an easy class but as long as you take good notes and do well on the homework assignments youll be fine.
Meer does a great job teaching, considering the class was online, and provides a lot of study material. Do not get behind; rewatch videos and read the textbook. Do the extra credit and make sure you know the concepts and not only the graphs. I passed the first two tests, then decided to slack off for the last one, and still easily got a B.
Lecture videos where a bit minimal but once you read the book it helps connect everything together, especially with the quizzes. The Practice Tests are the best way to study as the concepts are application based.
He is your only option for Econ 202 but I just wanted to wish you all luck!
He sent out an email begging people to give him a good rating. That alone should tell you something about him and his teaching methods....
Textbook absolutely essential. Requires many assignments, all must be completed well. No room for error. States that there is lots of assistance, but you must fit the schedule to use. Very high expectations, and is passive aggressive to class performance. Must block out significant time to fit class in schedule. Be wary investment in the class.
Did not enjoy this class in the slightest. The professor has a very passive aggressive approach towards conversations, without allowing much wiggle room. Too many assignments for the amount of material covered. Very disappointing.
An incredible professor. His videos are short and legitimately interesting. I'm convinced most of the bad reviews are people who fell behind on homework and never caught up. If you commit to doing assignments even 1 day in advance, you'll be completely fine and might even enjoy the class. Homework is very short, but there's a lot of it.
Never really could keep up with the work he gave us, around 4-5 modules on Monday and the same with on Thursday with a problem set. The lecture videos would give you only around 50% of the information you needed to learn for the module. I would highly recommend taking the class somewhere else if you ca.
Do not listen to negative reviews on Dr. Meer. The level of work you have to put into this class for an A is laughable. There are anywhere from 5 to 10 lecture videos each week, and you could do them all in a day in under two hours. Tests are exactly like the reviews. It is virtually impossible to get under a B in this class.
Dr Meer is a great teacher that explains the economics concepts very well. There is a ton of work in this class, but if you do it all and watch all the lectures, you will understand the material very well. It's also all online, which is nice.
Professor Meer's class was difficult. It is an online course, so much of it is reverse classroom/video style. However, I do NOT like how uncaring to students he was. He acted like he was better than everyone... either way, put in the work and you will get an A or a B. Tests are hard, but he rounded me from an 86 to an A.
This class is fully online, but exams are in person and late at night. It's not a hard class, but the constant workload makes it hard to keep up or fully absorb material. It feels like a nonstop catch-up game. Exams are tough, but the practice materials help. Minimal interaction with the professor.
Horrible. So arrogant and rude, will literally give you a practice exam and make the actual exam completely different. You will think you will excel on the tests but will actually do the complete opposite. Avoid taking this credit here if you can and just transfer it in.
This is a course that should be taken with vested interest in learning. He's a professor that makes sure you benefit from learning- if you so choose to do so. Great, interesting lectures. It is time consuming, but rewarding if you structure your study well. Exams are a bit tough, but that's kinda the point of a higher education. He cares.
This class revolves around 85 lecture videos that are boring, repetitive and frankly uninteresting. The videos truly take the fun out of learning. Offering this course only online is a shame.
This class if offered only online and sucks. You really do have to spend a lot of time just to get through it, and longer to do well. Tests are typically harder than review material, and meer always sends a nasty email about how we all did terrible. Old army tutoring is helpful before exams
People hate on Professor Meer way too much. He is genuinely a good professor, with good teaching skills. He's never been rude in his emails, unless you consider him expressing his disappointment over a pretty shocking grade average to be rude. His TA's are accessible. It's a hard class but I learned a lot and I'm genuinely greatful
I found this class very interesting. Professor Meer is an amazing and accessible professor who cares about his students' performance. Well-structured and taught through engaging lecture videos and Achieve quizzes. Exam averages were very low, but I scored well above the average by doing practice tests and problems. Easy A with effort and studying.
Professor Meer is truly an intelligent man who cares about his students. I heard that this class was tough but if you do all of the assignments, extra credit, and get in the 80s on the tests, you will most likely get an A. If you meet with Meer one-on-one, he will reward your efforts to do well in the class with extra tips on what to study.
Economics is a weird subject, but Professor Meer does a wonderful job at teaching it. I really enjoyed this class, but if you want an A you will need to put in the work. Discipline is your best friend as it is up to YOU to not fall behind. Do extra credit, and meet with him in person if you struggle with anything.
Jonathan is a cutie patootie. Putting that aside, he explains economic concepts well but you really need to understand everything intuitively especially for the exams. I got lucky and understood everything pretty easily but I can see how this class would be difficult especially with Exam 2. Put in work like you would for a normal class and do well.
Keep in mind, this class is almost entirely online, with the exams being in person. Despite that, I still thoroughly enjoyed the class. Professor Meer's videos are very helpful and easy to understand. There is a lot of homework, so you have to stay on top of it the whole time or you will fall behind. There's also a lot of resources to help you out.
This course is challenging, you will be put to the test, but he's overall a nice guy who gives you tons of extra credit opportunities, I probably would've gotten a lower letter grade if it weren't for those. Although I wish this course was in person, I would definitely take him again if need be
A lot of students are intimidated by this class, but don't be! Genuinely one of the most interesting classes I've taken. Come ready to put the work in, you can get a lot out of this course. Lots of homework, but that's just the nature of Econ. Professor Meer cares a lot about his students' success and provides a lot of tools for them to succeed.
He's rude and full of himself. The practice tests are nothing like the actual exams, which are way harder and full of tricks. Don't expect the exam reviews to help either; he just reads the module titles out loud like we can't see them ourselves. The course feels disorganized, overwhelming, and designed to trip you up, not help you learn.
Through the semester he has given 102 assignments total each one having a video you must watch to understand it. His exams are pretty much impossible and after each one he sends out an email saying he is disappointed in the grades, the call is coming from inside the house. He seems like a great guy but I would never take another class of his again.
Dr. Meer is very approachable if you have questions about concepts in the curriculum and tying it to current events, especially if you see him during office hours and in-person review sessions. The curriculum becomes more and more foundational in order to 1. learn and 2. pass the course, but they are very basic concepts about microeconomics.
Economics is difficult, but Dr. Meer provides many extra learning resources. The last two exams were challenging. His exams and weekly sessions always had terrible scheduling times, and old practice exams were hit or miss in studying. Grades are 55% 3 exams, 20% quizzes, 15% problem sets, 10% Packback participation, and +10% Packback extra credit.
In all honesty what made this course kind of hard was simply how much work was given along with the homework assignments at the end of each unit which was were over 30 questions. On the other hand if you just cram the practice exams before each test you should do fine.
There are a lot of assignments due every week for this class, so make sure to stay on top of them. Study EVERY SINGLE DAY!! Exams are not cumulative, which is nice. Give yourself time to complete the assignments and do not wait until the due date to complete them! Exams are difficult, so reach out for help. TIP: Do not wait to ask for help!
This class is a lot of work and people complain saying its hard, but if you give it the time of day and read the text book it makes easier. I kind of gave up toward the end which is why i got a C but its honestly not as bad as everyone says if you study. DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS because he puts some questions from the practice exams on the actual exam
I enjoyed the class, particularly his video lectures. They were really short, but were relevant and related able. The class does use Packback for class participation, and be prepared to read the textbook. DO THE EXAM REVIEW. Additionally, he is very easy to talk with, so go to his coffee chats and review your previous test scores with him.
Although I didn't get the grade I hoped for, the course was super manageable. If you put in the right amount of effort, an A is definitely possible. I also learned a lot in his course!
got an A and scored in top 10% of the class- econ is hard but there are much harder classes in mays. focus on understanding > scoring, use the resources, go to TA office hours/his coffee chats. meer actually a pretty good prof but it's easy to slip through the cracks in a giant virtual class. put in the effort and it'll be okay.
Video Lectures were very hard to sit through as they lacked any kinda of engagement. Through his videos and even emails, he is a very cocky person and is not afraid to show that. He constantly puts students down, but I do believe he could be better if the class were in person.
The class is very manageable overall, but the exams are definitely tough. As long as you keep up with the material and stay organized, it's doable, just be prepared for challenging tests.
The only actual teaching comes from short videos that are mostly unrelated to video quizzes/tests. The videos are boring and writing random words on a screen does not teach students. Definitely manageable to get an A, but you'll have to do a lot of self study. Take this at a community college, save yourself from a semester of boredom.
So much work. Forget about days off. You will always have work to do. Problem sets take forever.
Meer's lecture videos were always pertaining to tacos. They never helped me with the actual quizzes he assigned. His exam prep was good. I have heard from many people that he is unprofessional, cocky, and rude to his students (mind you that pay his salary), with comments like "you're an adult figure it out yourself" Rude man, glad I never met him.
Many hate Meer, all for no reason. This guy teaches you logic, plain and simple and beautiful. The haters watch the lecture videos and move on even if they don't understand the concept. Many dont even watch them. These fools do not realize logic is one connected web, so if you don't have one piece, moving on is futile. They should rewatch the vid.
I came into this class with the mindset that I was going to do bad. However, Prof. Meer does his absolute best to prepare students for exams. He has TONS of tutoring sessions/online zoom sessions, practice exams, examples, and so much more to equip the students to succeed.
It is an amazing class! I thought it was structured VERY WELL for an online course. Just make sure you watch the lectures and read the textbook if you don't understand a concept from the lecture video. The exams are very fair and similar to the practice exams. This was one of my favorite classes I have taken at A&M.
One of the most useful classes I have taken at TAMU. Meer is an incredible professor and cares about his students. The bad comments on here are people who did not put effort into the class and wanted a free A. The tests are challenging but are not too bad if you use the million resources that Meer provides. The class is structured incredibly well.
Meer's videos are somewhat helpful, but the homework load is excessive. It's hard to study with so many assignments due each week, and the sample exams are much easier than the real ones. Have TAs check your problem sets-- they explain answers well. He can come off cocky in emails. Take this class at a community college to save yourself the stress.
Professor makes it very clear that almost all of his lectures are logic, and there is no need to overthink as everything is right there in front of you. Assigns a lot of homework, and problem sets can be very annoying to do but hw helped prepare more for the exams than problem sets. Take the class if you are willing to put in time for it.
He is truly not meant to be a professor, he teaches materials well enough to get a 50, gets mad when u email him through his tamu email instead of econ 202, and truly doesn't care about students enough to help them through struggles in his course. this course can either be an easy A using AI, or a C if u try your best
This course is hard, but not the end of the world. There are lots of assignments, so try to stay ahead. For the problem sets, go to the in-person TAs (they are super helpful and understanding) or weekly zoom meetings (they go over all the problems). For exams, take the practice exams and do the practice problems over and over again.
This is by no means an easy class. He provides an abundance of resources, but you have to be willing to put in the work. This class does have a lot of assignments so I do recommend staying ahead because it is faster paced than it feels. For exams, it is much more about completely understanding the topics and ideas rather than just knowing facts.
In my opinion, Dr. Meer has one of the most organized online classes out there. Each unit has a lecture video, textbook reading, and a unit "quiz" (which is two attempts a question and is not that hard). The class is HIGHLY manageable if you manage your time properly. Honestly, if you study and use all of the resources given to you, its an easy A.
He's always disappointed in the class and thinks he's better than you, he acts like he can't comprehend how the class doesn't do well on 50 question extremely abstract choice tests that are worth a lot of the grade. Don't take him.
One of the most arrogant people I have ever listened to. Be prepared to spend hours on this class. His emails highlight his awards or accomplishments, which feels unnecessary and doesn't contribute to helping students understand the material. The tone often comes across as more self-promotional than supportive. Heavy work load and hard tests.
Use the practice tests to study for the exams. The problem sets are annoying, as the questions are more difficult than the actual exam. Aside from that, expectations are clear, and the tests are no problem to get an A on if you do the practice tests. He knows what he is talking about, but comes off as rude. Welcome to the real world.
Whether or not you like him as a person is irrelevant because as a teacher he is amazing. He has SO MANY resources. Use the All Day AI, read the textbook, go to TA hours (the TA's will LITERALLY check your quizzes before you submit), go to his coffee shop hours, and you will honestly do great! Don't just do the bare minimum and expect to get an A.
Part 1: Meer is a good professor, the class is just way too much work for a ONLINE class. Each week is a new module and around 3-4 topics are due every few days. These include videos, textbook readings, and a quiz on the chapter. Once a week there is a problem set due over the unit (tip: TA's go over it 5:00-6:00pm). There are 3 exams, no final.
Part 2: There are SO many resources he provides for you to do well. Sample exams, tutoring times, practice problems, videos, etc. DO NOT PROCASINATE. I just used to gaslight myself the textbook was interesting (sometimes) to get me through it. Every assignment you do is practically an A except the exams (he even weighs your worst exam score less).
As much as I want to complain, I really can't. Be prepared to lock in for this class. Your grade reflects how much you apply yourself. Definitely have to work for an A. He does provide plenty of resources but this is also a class that might not come natural to most. If you make an undesirable grade in this class don't beat yourself up.
bro i literally can't. i went to jonathan meer's office hours for some economics help and he told me to stop wasting his time. then he lit me on fire and drop kicked me out the window. i have never been so appalled. be prepared to work and lock in for this class, i certainly wasn't !!! also he has a public instagram #exposed
As a professor, Meer isn't awful; although the lectures are boring, they are clear. The practice tests are a decent reflection of the actual tests. Aside from that, there isn't anything else good about him. I've never met anybody more egotistical than this guy, and he's awful to communicate with. The TA's are very helpful with the problem sets.
People who don't like Meer didn't apply themselves. Meer provides you with PLENTY of online assistance (All day TA, Coffee Hours, Tutoring Lab) all you have to do is put in effort. Lots of video/quizzes, but they're short. READ HIS EMAILS. If you do an extra packback it gives you extra credit. Watch example videos (can pop up on exams).
People who say Professor Meer is this horrible guy & won't give you anything to succeed are LYING and trying to scare you. Don't get me wrong econ202 is not super easy, BUT he gives you PLENTY of resources to help you understand. As long as you apply yourself and put the work in, you will be just fine.
Professor Meer is a fantastic professor who wants his students to succeed. Most of his negative feedback comes from people who were expecting an easy online class and this is anything but that. Come into this class ready to work; there is a LOT of homework and textbook readings due every week (I honestly didn't really read the textbook though).
Due to the nature of the online class, there is a lot of work per week. Highly recommend working ahead to stay on top of it. Professor Meer hosts review sessions before the exams and is easy to contact. Different tutoring methods are built into the course.
This course will be hard. That is the nature of the class, and there is no way around it. Dr. Meer does a great job at trying to make you prepared for the exams and gives plentiful supplemental information. Please do not be scared of this class, all of your friends will have to take it too, just stay disciplined, and have a good attitude about it.
Despite his arrogant tendencies and angry emails in all caps, I'll give Meer a solid 3/5. The reason for this being that his video's are concise and contain practically all the information you need to know for the class/tests—you don't really need to read the textbook. You don't even have to meet the guy either.
Dr. Meer is genuinely one of the best professors at A&M. His class definitely requires that you put in effort, but he gives you all the resources you need to succeed...and then some! He communicates topics really well, and his class is interesting. Highly recommend.
I have mixed feelings about Dr.Meer. On one hand, he can come off as arrogant and condescending in his emails after we take an exam, which usally relays how disappointed he is in us. But on the other hand, he does give alot of extra credit and his lecture videos are good. I cannot emphasize enough to rewatch his lectures right before an exam!
Meer is a great person but his exams are really difficult due to wording being potentially misinterpreted in different ways.
Reasonable amount of work, the modules are fairly simple to understand and if you need help go to office hours. Do the extra credit!! It's very easy and only takes a few extra minutes. The thing that helped me the most was reading the textbook and watching his example videos.
This class is a lot of work and not an easy A. Professor Meer easily comes off as condescending and rude based on the nature of his emails and clear disappointment in students performance after exams. Despite this, if you are disciplined about completing work ahead of time and use every resource available to prep for exams, a good grade is possible
Very hard class. Exam reviews are no help. The exams are DIFFICULT. Online class but in-person exams??? The TA's just give you the answers without explaining. His response emails are snarky. He's a great guy but makes his class hard in areas it does not need to be. I think he's the only professor, but read the text book and just fight through.
Very accessible outside of class, tries to make the videos engaging and relatable. Exams are hard, I swear they're harder than the practice exams from previous years. Study, pay attention, do all the work and you should be fine.
Meer often comes off as almost rude in his emails. I recommend not letting the lecture videos/quizzes stack up until the last day. He is knowledgeable and does explain concepts well. Tests are often confusing. Make sure to actually take notes and pay attention.
