He is awesome! You can tell that he really loves what he does. All of his classes were interesting and meaningful. I learned more in his class than any other class. I plan on taking him again next spring. Highly recommended!
GREAT PERSONALITY...ALWAYS READY TO HELP STUDENTS...ONE OF THE BEST STAFFS AT STLCC...
he knows alot, but has hard time communicating it to his students. his tests suck because he gives only 8 problems, so if you miss 2, you're at a C. plus, what other teacher makes 28% of the entire grade based on the final, which is the hardest of all tests. if you can take another teacher-take them
good teacher, though his class is very challenging. good sense of humor too, good musician, he is a cool dude.
Nice guy. He gives reasonable tests over difficult material. 50% of the problems on the tests are almost exactly like the homework, so do your homework. His labs are really fun too.
he really know his phy. very helpful and labs are always fun. i recomend him over anyone else. the class will be hard but it is engneering phy. what do you expect.
At Meramec, a professor-dictator named Lincoln destroyed his students. I am one of 4 refugees in Morris's class this semester who were slaughtered by Lincoln last semester. Morris is great! He teaches the material! Lincoln never did. His labs are cool as well. I barely nipped a B, but this comment would be the exact same even if I got a C.
i barely touch the c range which i don't know for sure. it was a fun and cool too. even i fell asleep on on test and snored few times during the class, but it was good over all.
He definately knows what he is doing and loves it. This was without a doubt the most challenging class I have ever taken, so far! Physics is not easy but he makes it interesting and fun. I came out with minor bruising
He only cares for the students that do well and understand the material. If you have inclination that you will struggle with the material...DO NOT TKAE HIS CLASS!!! He is not helpful one-on-one and he is extremely low-key. He is hard to get a hold of and contact. Even more difficult to get together for extra help. HE SUCKS!!
This was one of the most challenging classes I have ever taken. I would say that Jonathan was very helpful, but sometimes it took some time in order to get it. The only problem I had was how fast he flew through examples.
I definitely have to agree that this is one the hardest classes I have ever taken. I think that Jonathan was a pretty good teacher. I struggled trying to understand, but he really helped to make things easier. I'm still not a fan of physics, but at least it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
Jonathan was a great teacher who really made physics interesting. Before his physics class, I hated math and dreaded having to take the class. Now I am upset that I can't take his Physics 2 class. He is extremely understanding, yet fair. Take this class if you are willing to work your tail off.
he was ok just not for me. need other classes.
very nice guy, but HORRIBLE professor, he teaches as if you were an expert already in the material. His tests are extremelly difficult, he is more than happy to tell you that only a few people will pass his class, which should not be the case since this is physics1 Out of 34 people only 11 at the end and I dont know how many passed. STAY AWAY!!!
I don't have a strong math background and used to hate science. He was the 1st teacher who actually made science interesting and fun. He clearly explains all examples. Half of the test is from HW assignments... which he solves for you in class: if you come to class, take notes, you'll do well. He was patient, helpful, and easy to understand!
jonathan certaintly is passionate about the subject, that is clear. Take great notes and do all homework (will benefit on tests!). Material is hard to understand but if you ask questions you'll get through it. The text book used for college physics 1-2 is terrible. Hard to read, boring. And physics isn't boring, so great job writers!
tough class, good basic physics class. Not enough access for help or tutor support from learning center.
Great teacher. Loves his subject, and you can tell that when he teaches. Course isn't a breeze, but if you come to class, pay attention, and do your homework, you will do great. Always willing to help and explain anything unclear. Would def take him again if needed!
He's a great teacher
Great instruction and relaxed class made for a very conducive learning environment
Very hard class! I had physics before and couldn't make head or tails of it, but he made it pretty clear. My main complaint is too much homework and he won't go over it in class. You have to come to office hours, but if you do, and do all of the homework, you will pass.
Outstanding! Provides a respectful and professional environment. You know exactly what is expected from day one. No guessing on what the "contest" will be like. He is very intelligent, but not over the top in lecture. He teaches to the level of the class. Office hours are convenient and very helpful. I advise you take advantage of them.
Much better than my other phsyics class! Do the homework and you will be ok
Jonathan is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He has a way of making a difficult subject interesting and easy to understand. He's very fair, and gives plenty of chances for extra credit. I wouldn't recommend taking physics I or II with any other professor.
Intelligence + humor = hott! A REALLY great teacher, makes a very difficult subject easy to grasp. Exams are straight-forward, no trick questions~ do homework problems and attend lectures even though they're not required it will help tremendously! Very enjoyable class~ I didn't want to miss any classes!
Morris refuses to repeat himself under ANY circumstance. He failed to put an angle on a right triangle so we couldn't use SOHCAHTOA. Instead of throwing out the question, he used discretion to give full credit to one student who tried to work out the problem (but left it incomplete)and disregarded the students who skipped it. He is condescending.
yes, this is a HARD class. I am the exact opposite of a math-minded person, but if you don't miss any classes, ask questions when you are confused and DO THE WORK, you will do fine. Also, sit close to the board, he writes pretty small. :o) LAST CLASS I NEEDED TO GRADUATE, THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH, PROF MORRIS!!!
Mr. Morris is an intelligent nuclear physicist. That being said - he does not like to "teach" students. It is irritating to him to have to repeat/clarify material. It would be in most everyone's best interest to take ANY other teacher besides him. I had a D in his class when I dropped. I got an A in my next teacher's physics class.
Professor's teaching method is ineffective. Class started out with 20 students and ended with about 6 or 7 after all the wise students dropped.
This is a difficult course but Jonathan makes it interesting and occasionally even fun. It is essential to come to class prepared and to do the homework. The tests are challenging to say the least, but he gives lots of partial credit and offers extra credit. If you are hoping for an easy A, it's not going to happen.
Jonathan is an amazing nuclear physicist. He makes the class fun but expects you to be an adult and do your homework and come to class. His tests are hard but he gives a lot of extra credit. Also your grade is solely based off your tests and lab notebook. This is a hard subject but he makes it easy to understand. But not an easy A.
Don`t take him. Extremely hard class. He does not have study guides, and reviews.
He is a smart and nice teacher. But he isnt cup of my tea. The stuff that he teach is really hard. If u miss class or dun do the homework, u will 100% fail this class. Not recommend for non-smart person.
Great teacher! Has generous office hours, is very patient, and works with you with any and all questions you may have. Promptly responds to emails, does give out a lot of extra credit, and will reexplain any and every concept. NOT an easy class! Based on exams and lab. Must do homework, though not graded, in order to have a chance on the exams.
World class classroom. Great professor. Do the homework. Don't skip classes. Stay on top of lab reports.
Really good teacher and cool dude. Go to class. Do the homework. The only really horrible thing is how mind-numbingly long the class+lab days are. But he grades pretty easy.
Dr. Morris is a GREAT TEACHER!!! If you put the time in with your homework, and apply yourself, you will pass. Dr. Morris explains things VERY CLEARLY, and encourages students to ask questions before, during and after his lectures. If you EVER need further explanation he will offer it gladly and make sure you "get it"!
Great teacher! Lots of extra credit in case u botch a test. He will gladly help you if you need it. Do the homework and you're good to go. Overall an easy class. Highly recommend it.
Though the subject matter of this course is at times extremely challenging, professor Morris equips students with all the resources to be successful. He is almost always available to answer questions via email or in person. If you attend class regularly, do all of the assigned work, and take advantage of extra credit opportunities, you'll do fine.
Jonathan has a very clear way of explaining a very difficult subject matter. He is also available outside of class for extra support when you're doing the homework - which is REALLY helpful since many of the homework problems are also used on his "contests". I learned a lot in his class and hope to take him again.
wonderful teacher. His explanations of the course material are very clear and step-by-step. He will always answer questions during lecture and go over a problem again if he needs to . Tests are not very difficult if you do the homework problems and take notes during lecture. Dont skip class, as each one contains a lot of material.
He's amazing and you will learn a lot if you take him. He really prepares you well (if you do the homework) and he's funny so every class was enjoyable.
Great teacher. I would take a class that he teaches over many other professors. I enjoyed his lectures. He doesn't pick on anyone to answer a question when the class is silent unlike other professors. The class was tough, but he does everything to make sure you can understand the material. Your grade will reflect how hard you are willing to work.
Dr. Morris is a great teacher and I enjoyed every lecture. He is very good at explaining the tough material but his tests are hard. He is always available to answer your questions. You must do the homework problems; otherwise it would be tough to pass. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and let you correct your mistakes for lab assignmnts
Wouldn't take again! Hes not HOT! impatient. Not very helpful, in fact is often condescending. Doesn't allow all students to participate in asking question... Information is not difficult to understand, although he makes it more difficult than the textbook does. Goes off on tangents leaving a student trying to understand the material more confused
My rundown on Morris: Do the homework! He will emphasize this, too. Take him seriously and then ask questions in class or during office hours. He will really help if you spend the time. He is very academically rigorous, pedantic, and quirky. Be patient, practice the problems, and play along. Make sure to complete all labs and extra credit.
1) Physics is TOUGH (!) but Dr. M does an amazing job at trying to make it practical and manageable. Don't expect an easy A -or B. 2) Exams could be so much harder than what they are. The hardest/longest homework problem WILL be on the test. Make sure you understand it before game day. 3) The final is HARD. It is not a repeat of the old exams.
I took Dr. Morris for physics 1&2. The classes are both hard, and harder if you aren't very strong in math. He is there to help but expect to meet him half way. He isnt just going to give you grades you will have to earn them. Do the homework this is extremely important. If you skip lectures and don't do the homework, you will not pass.
Professor Morriss is a gem in the STLCC faculty. We are lucky to have someone of his caliber, coming from his former days at Wash U. He has a good comprehension of multiple disciplines and is able to correlate and apply those concepts to physics. He demands a lot from his students, so this isn't for the casual student. You must put in the work.
Overall, Jonathan's a good guy & a good teacher. Physics is not an easy subject for me & although he didn't make it any easier, at least the lectures were endurable bc of his quirkiness. He definitely sticks to his rules... like the no phone during class thing? He seriously means it. H/w isn't graded but DO IT or you absolutely will not pass
Physics 2 was tough, but he made it a blast! Great lesson plans and lectures, which include relevant history. As always, made himself available to everyone in order to help us succeed. Interesting conversations outside of class; he's now a valuable mentor. Read, do extra credit, and ask questions! Bonus: he plays guitar beautifully during labs. 5/5
Truly a wonderful instructor and overall an awesome human being! Physics is a difficult subject for a lot of students and he truly goes above and beyond! He is by far the best science professor I've had! He truly wants everyone to succeed and understand the material! ALWAYS do the homework! His tests are very reasonable if you do!
Very good lecturer. Knows his stuff and is very good at communicating it and making sure everyone understands it. If you want to learn and are willing to put effort forth, you will enjoy this class. The class is challenging, but none of it is "busy work".
Dr. Morris gives fantastic lectures. He makes it fun and interesting by including some of the history behind physics or math in general. His course is very difficult, do the homework and the labs consistently because it is very hard to catch up when you get behind. I'm glad that I took his course, i feel more prepared for a university now.
Jonathan Morris is a fantastic professor with boundless energy for science. I took engineering physics 2 with him, and while I was really nervous about the class, his enthusiasm for the material, and interest in my understanding took all the pressure off. I would absolutely take more classes with him if it were possible.
He's a great teacher. I would take him over and over if I had a chance because he makes learning fun by relating class problem into real life situations, and have it make a lot of sense! If you're a soccer player, take this class
Dr. Morris was a good lecturer. However, I didn't enjoy or like the lab component of his class. He expected you to write out each lab procedure with great detail in a notebook and was very strict on grading them. We often had to hand write 2 labs a week which was time consuming. He referred to tests as contests. Extra credit was really hit or miss.
Respectful.
-Fair grading. -Total control of his class -Tests from homework
Limits student's ability to learn by not allowing any sort of technology to be used during his long lectures. Absolutely no resources to study from besides his lectures, even the books assigned are solved with minimal explanation. Doesn't upload anything on blackboard. Don't expect feedback or help without asking for it. Only Grades 4 Tests & Final
One of my best professors ever. He teaches in a clear, engaging way! Made me actually love to learn physics! Just make sure to keep up with the homework - then you'll do fine on tests. He cares about you and is so willing to answer any questions in and out of class. Very fair in awarding partial points, too! Take him!!
Professor Morris was honestly one of the worst teachers Ive ever had. He has get a generic physics book that youre not to bring to class. He gives lots of ungraded homework and expects you to know how to do them on your own. I withdrew and took a different teacher and passed with an A-. He has a 0 phones/laptop policy, but plays guitar during lab
He's a smart man, but he goes way too fast for an introductory class and expects you to know as much as he does after only a couple lectures. He does not have very good people skills and to me it seemed like it was a burden for him to help me out with assignments or any questions. "Try and figure it out yourself" is a key statement he lives by.
Great professor! Just finished the 8 week summer class. Lecture attendance and hw was optional and not graded, but the hw questions are very similar to test! Its up to you to do the hw and use what was taught in lecture. Professor was very accessible and always willing to help outside of class. Equation sheet is provided as well for all tests.
I have no clue what the aug. 2 2020 rating is talking about. The class was 8 weeks so of course things had to be accelerated. There was an avg of 5 hw problems a night that never took more than an hour or so and they were very similar to test questions. Lectures were recorded so u could watch anytime. Very fair grader and gives lots of partial cred
I took the 8-week physics course with him over the summer, and he's great. He never made me feel like I was bothering him when I asked questions. I watched lectures after the fact, and it was still super easy to understand and learn. He also was very gracious when grading exams, so that took some stress off. I would definitely recommend!
I took the 8 week summer option for this class, and while it was fast it was not overwhelming at all. The homework is not graded, but tests are very similar. I was not a fan of the textbooks used because they used different variables than we learned in class sometimes, but they were cheap so that was good. Lots of extra credit and grades test easy!
Excellent teacher. Always goes above and beyond for his students! He expects us to work hard. However, he gives out a lot of homework, but they are extremely helpful for the test!
Dr. Morris is often critical of assumed shortcomings. He speaks down to his students and accuses other students of not being ready for the material without yet finding out if they are. He is also slow to grade everything. He doesn't inspire with the material, he gatekeeps. Dr. Morris has an attitude problem and speaks unprofessionally. Steer clear!
No homework grades. Grades consist of tests and labs only. Hardest class I have taken so far, but I learned a lot. It hard to keep up make room in your schedule to study a lot. Since there aren't any homework grades you have to figure out if you understand things by yourself. Professor is not very nice. Only class I've ever cried about.
Very reasonable professor- he pushes you to actually learn material instead of regurgitating equations. Assigns lots of homework which can be very challenging, but leaves you well prepared for exams. Very generous grader on his exams, and always answers homework questions promptly-all you have to do it again. Took him online and would do it again!
Was never given feedback on assignments which was difficult to understand where I went wrong. When asked for help, he made you sound dumb or just say, "it is not supposed to be like that." Would not recommend.
Dr. Morris is fair, respectful, and sometimes funny. Optional lectures were clear and organized; if you show up and participate, you will do well. Open and easy to ask questions. You won't get points for doing the homework, but doing it really will prepare you for the "contests." He cares to help you learn if you care. Would recommend!
This professor did not have to do ANY lectures because they were recorded the last year and still did not answer emails. Most of the time the lectures were not what the test was over, but were homework problems. I do not recommend this class or this professor. Seriously, take another professor. Tests were extremely hard.
Jonathan is an exceptional professor, with what seems to be limitless knowledge. I took engineering physics 2 with him, and it's a tough class. The material is conceptual, and the math uses a lot of calculus. However, he does an incredible job teaching it. He expects hard work and dedication, but it pays off!
If you are taking engineering physics for the first time, Jonathan Morris would be your best choice; he is an excellent teacher. He is very patient and professional.
This class is every bit a 5 credit hour class. Homework is really just practice and only exams and labs count toward your grade. You need to do the background work to ensure that you are staying prepared to keep up. Morris will be the best and toughest teacher you'll have, forcing you to reevaluate how you prepare for class. The labs are great!
Jonathan is the best! I took the 8-week summer course, and I would definitely recommend him for taking physics for the first time. He is a very quick grader and really wants to see you succeed. Although hw is not for a grade, you will not pass the exams if you don't do them. Grades consist of labs and exams, but there's plenty of extra credit.
follow his instruction and you will be fine. wish you the best Professor Morries
He is one of the best professors at STLCC
Very helpful and organized lectures! Even though it is not mandatory, attending class and doing the homework consistently is definitely key to succeeding in this class. Exams are a bit challenging but stay within the realm of what is taught in class which I appreciate. Would highly recommend!
Very generous with partial credit when grading exams, but he makes exams insanely difficult. Practice homework, but in every other class there's a few problems in the book that are so abstract and challenging that you think "no way this is on a test..." and study the obvious problems. His exams are exclusively the hard/weird homework questions.
The facts are: you are not allowed to use the restroom when you need to, you only can when he calls a break. if you choose to go anyway, then you are not allowed back into the lecture. this includes emergencies. caught him looking at a female classmate's butt twice exams are all over the place and are not at all predictable
If you expect a more traditional route of teaching and have little to no physics knowledge then don't take this professor. You'll be teaching the majority of the material to yourself. He speeds through lecture and does very few practice problems in class. Labs aren't much better, only good thing is he lets you make corrections on lab reports.
Great professor! A master of Physics . Even though Its a very heavy and challenging class, doing HW will put you on the right.
Gives a lot of extra credit throughout the semester. The textbook is free online and we only use it for homework. The material is challenging but if you do the homework and ask questions you will do fine. The tests are hard but they are like the homework problems and examples from lectures.
Difficult class, but if you watch the lectures and complete assigned homework both will help prepare you for his "contest". The content is difficult but active studying and utilizing professor Morris as a resource would help you succeed in the course. Great Professor.
Dr. Morris is easily one of the most highly knowledgeable and well-versed professors I've ever encountered. Take notes during his lectures because many concepts covered in class facilitate the homework. Doing the homework facilitates preparing for the contests (exams). I strongly recommend him for those with no prior physics education.
This class was very difficult, but Dr. Morris provides many extra credit opportunities and is a fair grader. He also does lab corrections. Make sure to do the homework and go to him with any questions you have as he's extremely helpful during office hours. The tests are 10 questions and you get to skip 2. He also has a sense of humor!
Professor Morris lets students know what to expect from the start. Listen to his tips on how to succeed and you will be fine. Lectures and labs were interesting!
Professor Morris is a great teacher, clearly extremely knowledgeable. He's very funny also. Sometimes during the lecture he'll spend time explaining the history of things that aren't strictly relevant but is very helpful for making the lecture engaging and memorable. Plan to take him again the next opportunity. Do the homework problems.
Professor Morris is worst physics professor I had. He doesn't know how to teach, doesn't know how to make exams, doesn't know how to make labs and doesn't even know how to make a lab worksheet so he can stop making stuff up to deduct points. He keeps making things up & doesn't know how to even do his own problems keeps giving wrong lecture answer
