Professor Olson is seriously amazing! He has such a way about him that makes you want to learn! He knows his stuff and is willing to work with you on just about anything! He is clear on what he's looking for on essays and gives amazing feedback. I would take him for any class!
So this is a class that every honors freshman has to take, and Dr. Olson was fine, but not exceptional. This class has already dry material, and he kept it just as dry. Teachers in other classes cancelled many assignments and the midterm, but we had to do all of it. So, he's a fine teacher and you can get an A, but not the most intriguing professor
Professor Olson is quite the character. He is a very genuine guy and is fun to listen to. There are times when his lectures can get a bit boring, and he might go off on a tangent, but overall a good teacher and would recommend to other students. Very easy grader.
Professor Olson is one of those people who just seem incredibly smart right when you meet them. His sarcasm is hilarious and he is a really great guy. He is an easy grader, but his lectures do drag on sometimes.
Dr. Olson knows his subject. He can tell you everything you've ever wanted to know about British Literature, with movie references. He is an incredible professor, but you will read a lot in his class. If you read and participate, you'll do well. He is an easy grader on papers and gives a ton of feedback.
I took both his Ripple in the Pond honors and English 206 Honors class my freshman year. So much fun and a really cool guy all around! Always fun class conversations. Would definitely take another class of his. Super easy grader as long as you do and write about the topic. Highest recommendation.
Dr. Olson is a pretty smart guy. The class was pretty paper heavy, but I skipped lecture about once a week and got almost full participation. He grades easy and the lectures didn't contain much info, so most of the class time was goofing off. Pretty enjoyable class, and definitely the easiest one I've taken at GCU, despite being an honors class.
Professor Olson was an amazing honors professor. He is intellectual and I learned so much by just attending his classes. I would thoroughly enjoy taking his course over again.
This entire class was just a discussion class. Everyday, you would discuss what was just read, so many people didn't bother reading the books. Instructor Olson doesn't really explain what he wants you to do unless you ask him. He is very understanding and willing to work with you if you miss a class.
Dr. Olson is super smart! He knows a ton of stuff, so I feel like I learned a lot of random things. We read a lot in this class - it was very similar to an English class. He doesn't lecture much and has class discussions pretty much every day which is a very nice break in my opinion.
I loved Dr. Olson. He helped whenever I needed it and responded fast to my emails. He is funny and kind. I suggest him 100%!
HE IS MY FAVORITE. I laughed so hard in that class. He really valued students and encouraged open discussion. He listened so well to what the students had to say and tried to really understand where they were coming from. This created so much great conversation and debates. Great memories and I actually wish I could take his class again.
Professor Olson is an expert in British Literature, Shakespeare and film analysis. He studied for a time in Europe and is an authentic academic. His classes are discussion based which flourishes community and critical thinking.
Dr. Olson crafted his classroom as mostly (95%) discussion based, which fed the community of the classroom and our knowledge of the materials. He provides anecdotes that aid in understanding and are genuinely hilarious. I hated Shakespeare before taking his class and I truly enjoy reading the plays now.
Love Dr. Olson. Such a knowledgeable and inspiring teacher. Very interesting conversations and perspectives. The epitome of an english professor. detailed grader, but not too hard if you worked for it.
Great guy. Tells some really crazy stories and tries to keep things interesting! Class is mostly lectures, and his voice is slightly monotone so you need to make sure you stay focused. Not too much homework, but when he does give it, its busy work and doesnt teach much. If you pay attention and participate, you should do fine!
He is a really great professor one of my favorites this semester. The class is mostly discussion based and I feel as if it is a good break from other classes. I would definitley recommend him to others.
Dr. Olson is amazing. He is so helpful and will always do what he can to help. He is very understanding and wants all of his students to succeed. He is sort of a tough grader, but if you follow the rubric, you'll be fine. 10/10 recommend
Jonathan is a good professor. Tends to make a few jokes to keep class entertaining and does a good job at keeping the class engaged.
Professor Olson is great! Honestly UNV-109HN is the worst but he made it enjoyable. Take this professor if you are doing Honors University. He let us out early very rarely if you care about that stuff. Also phones are not allowed in class nor computers. They have to be put away.
Professor Olson can be very funny. When reading, it can be pretty boring if you don't understand the context but other than that it's a pretty easy class. The assignments are easy especially if you were an honors student in high school. He doesn't ask for us to be over achievers since this class doesn't really provide us with exceptional skills.
Dr. Olson was amazing in UNV-109H! While we did a lot of hefty reading, I thoroughly enjoyed the course. He made things very clear from the beginning, and was respectful to students to treat us all like adults. Everything was routinely graded, and mostly on time. Cracked jokes. He encouraged discussion/ free thought. Definitely would take again!
Olson was definitely my favorite teacher this semester. If you go into the class with an open mind and pay attention to what is going on, you will have an easy A and learn a lot. Most of the things done in class are not graded, but instead he teaches you what to know to complete the few assignments due throughout the semester. Olson is the GOAT.
This was my 2nd semester with Dr. Olson, and it only got better! His teaching style is structured to help students learn alongside each other, while also working independently outside of class. Lots of helpful discussion and he does a great job of validating student's claims. He's never late and fills the class time well. Helped me learn a ton!
I had him my first semester at GCU for UNV-109HN. It was much like an English class because we did read articles, books, etc. very often. We also had quite a few bigger writing assignments which were a main source of "homework" that we had and one big project at the end. He is very thorough and he is funny in his own way. I enjoyed his class.
I had him the previous semester for UNV-109HN and had the privilege of having him again. He has a unique sense of humor, but I enjoyed it. He is thorough in what he expects of students for assignments. We often read articles, excerpts, etc. and we had quite a few writing assignments and projects. Overall great class.
Professor Olson's class is very easy as long as you follow all the directions and turn everything in. The only downside to his class is he is very boring and easily can put you to sleep. But if you're looking for an easy A take him.
Dr. Olson was a great professor. His class is relatively easy as long as you put in the effort on your papers and projects. His sense of humor makes the class enjoyable and not just a drag. He gives really helpful feedback on papers, and if you take it you should do fine. You learn together in class by exploring and discussing the works you read.
This class was very boring and I did not enjoy it at all. It is all busy work and the lectures in class are pointless. I think there are better teachers for this course.
Dr. Olson makes this boring class super fun and makes the homework feel less stressful. Hes an easy grader. Very caring and understandable. Due to the course youll have to read but nothing to unbearable. Overall, Dr. Olson does care about his students and is one of the best professors Ive had.
One of the best professors I have ever encountered. His class was thought provoking and fair. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to leave with a broader world view.
Dr. Olson is awesome. He makes class fun to go to and provides very interesting reading materials. The class is not very challenging and you are graded off only a few things but, I really enjoyed the class and would take Dr. Olson again in a heartbeat.
Professor Olson is funny, intelligent, and an understanding grader. The class content was dry and boring but manageable and fairly simple. Olson is understanding about deadlines and things that may come up. He always provided very good clarification if I found assignments confusing. Olson is wise and wants you to succeed.
Such an interesting professor who loves to talk. This class wasn't too hard to begin with, but Olson made it a lot easier to understand. Very clear instructions and examples to help everyone out. He is a great listener and will make sure that everyone's work will get a good grade. Lots of reading in class though.
I loved being in Professor Olson's class. He is super nice and aware that students can have a lot going on and is graceful. This class is mostly reading and discussing the text but I think he keeps it interesting. He often throws in little jokes and relates to us. Super sweet guy.
Professor Olson was very kind and a good teacher. Attendance wasn't mandatory, and he would give extensions on any assignment for any reason, no questions asked. Most of what we did in class was just reading articles and then discussing them. Pretty much all of the assignments were just to write some sort of analysis and he was a super easy grader.
Dr. Olson is hands down a great teacher! Lecture consists of reading and discussions. No tests in this class, and assignments are not hard just time consuming. Olson is smart and caring, will give you an extension on any assignment no questions asked. One thing that bothered me was if you get a bad grade on an assignment he won't let you redo it.
Olson's class was one of my favorites. Get ready to laugh, and enjoy a lot of interesting reading. Sometimes the readings seem pointless, but you can tell he really enjoys them and loves to teach. He is passionate, funny, and really caring. I encourage you to participate because it makes any class better!
Honestly he was such an amazing teacher. All of his assignments were well laid out and he ALWAYS does everything he can to help you succeed. He always explains things in multiple different ways to help you understand... also he will never make you read in class unless you want to :)))))
Dr. Olson is eccentric, engaging, and never gave me a reason to want to skip class. He made the work we had to do for the class as easy and clear as possible and brought interesting topics and content to our attention regularly. I literally checked my portal every day for a month to try to get into his class again.
To be honest, you don't have to show up for half of the semester. He is very relaxed and not a harsh grader. The only thing bad about him is that he takes a while to grade and honors are pointless if you are nursing or A.T major.
Professor Olson was an amazing professor who made the class more interesting and exciting to attend to than at the surface! The discussions we would have in class would be deep and thoughtful with the material. When it came to assignments, he would grade very leniently with clear expectations. You don't need to attend class a lot of the time!
Professor Olson was by far one of my favorite professors this past semester. Attendance is not mandatory, but he makes class fun and encourages group discussion. While all the in-class readings weren't very applicable to the class, they were always interesting, and encouraged deep thinking. He is an easy grader, and very generous on due dates!
Dr. Olson is genuinely one of the best professors I've had. He's incredibly understanding and is always willing to work with students on extensions or questions about work. Class periods are long, so he makes sure to give everyone time to take the breaks they need and doesn't keep people past when he's finished his lecture. So smart and insightful.
Professor Olson is by far the best professor you can take for HUM-201HN! He is able to take the course material and present it to students in a practical and meaningful way. Also, a super chill grader and very understanding. I would highly recommend!
Professor Olson is the kindest professor I've had in my life. He cares about his students' success, and he cuts out all busy work. His lectures are engaging and entertaining. Although,I ended up skipping most of the classes and still received nearly 100% in this class. Unless you're doing something incredibly wrong, you will get an A in his class.
MY FAVORITE TEACHER EVER! Hes so caring, funny, and sweet! Hes legit such a laid back teacher. Just do the work and youll be good for the semester! If an extensions are needed for assignments, he'll give them to you! I love this teacher, you wont be disappointed! I promise! The reading can be boring; the class is dumb, but he makes it 10x better.
Honestly he is one of my favorite professors. I would take every single class of his if I could. It is an easy class and he makes it fun. I definitely recommend him.
I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Olson. My roommate had this class with him two semesters and strongly recommended I try to get him this semester. I am grateful for his recommendation. Dr. Olson keeps lectures entertaining and does not hold the class any longer than necessary to get through the day's content. Great grading standards/feedback.
Dr. Olson is my boy. Too bad only had one class with him.
Olson was my favorite teacher ever. I wish he could teach every class I'm in. He's hilarious and wise, and if he likes your class enough he might show you pictures of his cats. We watched "The Phantom of the Paradise" in this class and it was one of my favorite college memories. I Highly, HIGHLY recommend taking Dr. Olson's classes!!
Jonathan Olson has been an absolute joy as a professor and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a hilarious and engaging educator that truly makes the material being learned fun! By far, Professor Olson has been my favorite teacher I have ever taken from! He clearly sets out expectations for each assignment and makes sure you understand.
Attendance was not mandatory and the assignments online were extremely easy to understand. It is entirely possible to ace this class without showing up at all. However, his lectures are very interesting. Even if you do not need to, it is well worth going to class to enjoy the reading and lectures he provides.
Dr. Olson is one of my favorite teachers/professors of all time. The way he taught the class was unique and very fun to be a part of. He doesnt lecture himself much, but has the class do readings and asks though provoking questions. I really enjoyed his class and the way he grades is also very easy. Loved him! Definitly take him as your professor!
The class itself is quite boring but Prof Olson made it a lot more bearable. He was funny and an extremely easy grader. He will also give out extensions whenever you need one and really cares about his students. He did take up all of the class and did a lot of readings but he is still a great Professor and probably one of the best for this course.
This professor was so funny and actually listened to his students. If I could take him again, I would. I only got an A- because I forgot citations on a paper.
Professor Olson is hilarious. He is an easy grader and will give you an extension for however long you need if you just ask him before the assignment is due. He never takes participation. This class was easy and fun with Olson! I definitely recommend him for UNV-109HN.
By far my favorite professor so far. He is absolutely hilarious every single class and a pretty easy grader. Try to get in his class if you can.
Dr. Olson is the best. The coursework isn't always fun, he does his best to make it EASY. There are a few readings and papers you have to write, but he gives lots of time and lots of help if you need it. He's an easy grader and just wants the best for us. He's the coolest person I met and even showed us a presentation on his two cats. TAKE HIM ez A
Dr. Olson is absolutely amazing. If you have an opportunity to have him as a professor, take that opportunity because it is one you will never regret. Truly amazing professor and human.
Professor Olson was a great professor, he was very funny and vey helpful. When we read articles and books he would go paragraph by paragraph explaining what just happened. It was very helpful for people like me who have issues with reading comprehension. There is big amount of reading but it is manageable. I would definitely take this class again.
This professor was good and very smart, but all we did in this course was read philosophical articles. It had nothing to do with the university success class itself.
Olson is amazing, the best, 10/10. He is really humble but also super smart, and he likes to get the class very involved so everyone can understand the subjects. His is one of the most fascinating and interactive classes I've been in. Also, if you love literature or movies he is very fun to talk with. I am blessed to have had him as a professor.
Olson was a GREAT UNV-109 professor! If assignments were useless, he would replace them with something more applicable. We learned cool information throughout this course. He sometimes showed videos which kept it engaging, too! He was funny and understanding! He cultivates good convos in his classes.
In case you were worried, he doesn't think the earth is flat. repeat. DOES NOT.
Professor Olson was my favorite professor. He took a boring class and made it interesting. I didn't particularly enjoy the subject material, but I loved coming to class just for the fun and learning focused environment. There is a lot of discussion in the class and he made it easy to understand each topic. Highly recommend!
He is so funny and sweet. Enjoyable class if you are involved in the conversations. It is an easy A as long as you get the assignments turned in on time.
Professor Olson made a very mundane class extremely funny and insightful. There was lots of reading, but he makes a point of stopping and letting people ask questions so that everyone understands exactly what's going on. Highly recommend if you like looking at classic literature and talking about it- or even if you don't.
Professor Olson is a professor that I would 1000% take again. He is extremely understanding as a professor and he rarely takes participation for attendance. If he is available, take Professor Olson!!!
very nice and funny guy. would take again. super easy grader and the work is not hard at all.
Wow... just wow. Dr. Olson has this dry sense of humor that will just sneak into his lectures. There is a TON of reading, but he actually takes the time to unpack the content within the reading. Honestly, you do not need to go to half of his lectures. He doesn't take attendance, so no need to go. Just go for the CLC and when he posts DQs.
Really appreciated his intelligent sense of humor. The class itself was somewhat boring with a lot of reading but it was actually bearable because of him.
Dr. Olson is a fantastic professor. He is a very intelligent, and humorous professor. He establishes clear grading criteria and is more than willing to work with students individually to help them exceed to the best of their abilities. He is a brilliant professor and, I highly recommend him to any student looking to think creatively.
Dr. Olson is probably one of the funniest and best professors I've ever had. He is very caring and understanding towards his students, and gives helpful feedback on assignments. There is quite a bit of reading, but it is so spread out that if you read a couple of pages a day, you'll be fine.
He is such a fun teacher. The assignments are very well explained and very easy. He is also very easy to reach outside of the classroom through email. Had him twice and did great in both classes. Take him if you can!!!
Dr Olson is a nice guy who understands what being a student is like, If you complete the assignments fully and well done he'll give you 100% on everything. Would definitely recommend him.
Dr. Olson was so nice and kind. He always kept class interesting. From my experience he was not a very harsh grader. Nearly every class I was able to get out early.
He is hilarious! Probably the most I've ever laughed in a class. If you are willing to show you put in the work and put some thought into it he grades very easily. There were a lot of books to read, but he was not strict about the content of your writing and cared more that you just got it done. Didn't seem too put out if you didn't show up.
Dr. Olson was an amazing professor, who truly valued his students. He was a lenient grader, as well as a comedian in-class. Honestly, I would take him just for that! If you follow the assignments on Halo, you will be fine. If you put in effort, he will give you a 100%. There is reading you have to do, but don't worry, it's all DQ's!
Very awesome dude! Made the class very engaging, even if the reading was a bit hard at times. Very good sense of humor and made fun references to other pieces of media to connect it to the material we were reading. Would definitely take again.
Class involved engaging popcorn-style readings from diverse articles. Assignments were manageable with attention to the rubric. Occasionally, class was canceled for DQ completion. Movie extra credit was available every first Monday of the month. He gave over a month for the finale assignment to be completed (simple and you could choose what to do).
Dr.Olson is very chill and a great professor. He is very smart and has great discussions about material. We do a lot of in class readings but don't do any additional assignments for them. We have occasional projects or bigger assignments. There are also discussion questions about every other week which are pretty easy. He also grades pretty easy!!
Extremely chill and understanding. Socially awkward, but that makes him funny. He's direct about assignments, and he'll give you extensions.
Olson gives a lot of weird readings that don't always make sense but the class is weird anyways. He has very dry humor which I thought was funny. His projects are pretty small and the assignments aren't hard. He's a very cool guy.
Easy class that does not require much work. Honestly could not show up all year and end with an A. Kind of an odd guy, but he means well and makes the class simple. Likes to do lots of reading in class and has students read as well.
Prof Olson makes you read a lot of articles and books in/out of class, books for DQ's, articles just because. He doesn't take attendance so you could easily get away with not going to class. He takes a while to grade things but is a good guy after all. His dry humor was funny in my opinion.
You could honestly go to one class a month, and still pass. But I went almost every time solely to be in his class because he's hilarious (everyone laughs at least once per class), and because all the readings are done in class (really interesting most of the time - but they have nothing to do with the projects though, which is entertaining).
goated teacher alert. i like shakespeare now. turned in stuff late and he gave me extensions! wooo
He is so funny and makes his class one about learning how to think critically, rather than a skill learning class. Participation is mandatory as he will have random assignments in some classes, and if you miss them, you have to go to extra credit opportunities.
He is very funny and makes this class very easy. Lectures are engaging, even if the reading material is not very interesting. Extra credit opportunities are offered nearly every week. He completely changed some assignments to make them easier and isn't firm on deadlines. He doesn't take participation most of the time, only through random DQs.
Olson is… interesting. He doesn't really care if you're in class, and he's a little awkward but tries to be funny. He low-key looks like he walked out of Shakespeare's time. I liked the class even though I never knew what was going on, and you never know your grade until the end.
Professor Olson is a very engaging professor who is very funny and a little quirky in the best way. This course did not seem to have an extremely clear structure and in class, but all we did was read different texts and discussed it. And if you are uncomfortable reading out loud, he lets you pass which is nice. I recommend for an easy A.
He is just such an amazing man, I mean he's sarcastic which makes him so funny. Although attendance was not exactly mandatory, because he doesn't take roll. It's nice to show up because most of the time when it comes to assignments he makes them easier to understand or just changes them to make them easier. He's there for you to learn.
Get in Professor Olson's class if you get the chance! He is super kind and absolutely hilarious. I genuinely had a lot of fun in his class. He is a light grader and will often make assignments simpler and easier. His class is most fun if you participate in the discussion, but it is not mandatory. I can not recommend Olson enough!
His grading is super chill but it takes him a while to put in grades. The class is mainly class readings and discussions with 2 projects and 1 paper total. He is very lenient with extending due dates if need be.
He's a funny guy, reminds me of the drama teacher from Victorious. It does take him a decade to grade all of your assignments, but he is mostly an easy grader. Don't expect him to remember your name after the semester tho lol He does have extra credit sessions where you watch a movie and make a report on it. Love the guy
