Class itself was easy but lectures could be dry. Attendance quizzes and irrelevant homeworks could be annoying because missed points added up. Thankful for few points extra credit to make up for that. Tests were relatively easy if you take the time to memorize info and review sessions held by TAs helped. Met the expectations of any intro course.
I love Dr. Partridge! His tests are lecture based and are over the powerpoints. The TA's are super helpful and really helped us sort through the dense material to study what was important. He has quiz clicker questions at the end of his lecture which are kind of tricky and matter towards your final grade. He is caring and funny though, take him!!
311D is tough but interesting. A good grade is possible if you invest the time and effort. Well structured, points are broken up into in class questions, homework, and discussion sections, so it's not all riding on exams. The course content is DENSE, but he makes sense of it. Accessible, seems to actually care, rather entertaining character too!
I personally found his lectures to be boring, but his tests were just so easy that I really didn't care. However, there are a lot of ways to lose points in this class, so be careful with attendance to lecture, discussion, and doing the assigned homework. He rounds up your grade by one point also (so a 92 is an A, etc.). His British accent is cool!!
The spread of points amongst homework, discussion sessions, and class points is a relief. Less riding on exams is a big help and actually helps reinforce ideas throughout the course. Theres a LOT to cover, but an awkward structure that works out in the end. A quirky, available, and enthusiastic Prof!
Dr. Partridge is an understanding and nice prof. He rounded me up at the end of the semester. Textbook is not very helpful, take pictures of his clicker questions because he puts at least one on the exams. Really study for the first exam, because its the easiest. Make sure you know overall concepts and not focus on specifics.
A semester on, I've looked back and think Prof. Partridge is one of my faves. Knowledgeable, with a good structure to the class and easy to approach. Sad he's not teaching any of my courses this year.
dr partridge is very knowledgeable and his grading system is fair. this class definitely requires some work if you're coming in with no prior knowledge, but if you come to lecture and pay attention to homework you should be able to get an A. tests are pretty straightforward and even if you don't study that hard you would still be able to pass them.
Dr Partridge knows his stuff, is entertaining, and caring too. I cried in his office once (not course related) and he was SO nice about! If you keep up with the various components (lectures/homework/discussion/exams) you'll do fine. It seems like more work but is better than your grade coming from just exams and helps clarify material too.
Dr. Partridge is very kind and covers a good amount of material. His course is pretty well structured and easy to follow. His ppt lectures cover the book's main points so it's helpful to read the text as well. Study (!) esp if you don't have much prior bio knowledge- it can be hard to grasp this amount of material in the short time between exams.
Dr. Partridge's class was clear-cut and fair. Solid lecturer. His 3 tests were taken straight out of the notes. Clicker use makes class mandatory-esque, but he sets it up where you can miss a few classes and still be fine. Really caring, stand-up guy. Fun accent, too.
100% would take again. He hasn't been teaching for that long but does a good job of trying to make lectures bearable since the topics are boring. Good distribution of grades--- there are clicker points during class so thats why you should show up but slides are also online. For midterms he replaces the lowest grade with average of the 3.
Dr Partridge is the best BIO prof. clear on what material you need to study and what to expect for the test. The tests can be tough but you really just need to go through lectures and make sure you understand the concepts he gives. You need to study a lot, although, Very straightforward and for that reason, he is the best BIO prof you can take.
Great professor!! He's pretty standard, but teaches the material really really well. However, if you're not an auditory learner, his powerpoints are all you really need to know for the exams. His class goes into a lot more depth than other professors, but it's not hard at all to get an A in the class, as long as you go to class!
Lots of content covered but is delivered and organized well. Exams draw from the lectures and other assignments, so no nasty surprises. Firm but fair, Dr P is approachable, knows his stuff, and even manages to make a lot of the more mundane material rather entertaining. Great quality instruction for an Intro class. Also cool accent!
Dr. Partridge is knows what he is talking about and explains it well. His lecture slides are a lot, but they are literally all you need to do well in this class. I dont think I read the textbook once. His TA for this class was very helpful too, and his tests and final were fair game. My only wish is that I had him for 311C as well.
He is a good professor overall, just not my style. His classes are pretty much all lecture. I found it hard to stay awake in his lectures and you have to be present for the clicker questions. I did alright, but it was more self-teaching and help from TAs.
The 75 minute lectures are a lot sometimes, but that's scheduling. Dr P keeps things quite lively and clearly knows his stuff. Intro Bio is covered well with some fun tangents, and its nice that plenty of easy points are spread amongst non-exam assignments. He's also very easy to talk to and seems like he actually cares.
Great professor! His class is structured and expectations are clear. Some people think his lectures are a little lengthy, but he does a good job of being engaging. Test questions are fair, he does clicker questions for attendance, offers a bit of extra credit, and has great TAs. You'll have to work to be successful but it's definitely doable!
Considering its a Intro class, and a big one too, Prof P is everything you can ask for as a freshman. Clear, organized, shares ALL his lecture slides, enjoys the subject, and is always available and supportive, as was his TA. His lowest midterm replacement policy is pretty sweet too.
Dr. Partridge really was one of the only professors who made adjustments for the students because of the pandemic. Honestly, I'm super grateful because this was one of the ONLY classes where I didn't feel overwhelmed by the amount of work I had. He really cared for the students and made sure the grading reflected the situation. A+ professor.
I really liked Dr. J. He's funny and he keeps his class well organized. The multiple-choice on midterms is straight forward and quite easy. However, the open-ended section is five questions and worth 30 points! The TAs grade this section which is okay unless you get one with a power trip. I wish Dr. J would have graded the midterms instead.
Dr. Partridge seriously cares about his students. He will help you with anything you need and understands that you have other classes as well. Does not overwhelm you with work and gives many extra credit opportunities. Take Partridge if you can!!
He is an amazing professor, lectures are funny and interesting. Dont have to rely on the textbook at all. Only study the lecture ppts. The TA's grade the free-response harshly for tests so be sure to write a lot. Only Con- everything in his class is for accuracy (iclicker, disc,hw) so every point matters making it kinda tricky to get an A.
Excellent, caring, and considerate professor who went the extra mile in making sure all his students did well in his class post-Covid by modifying the course schedule to be more accommodating for all students and providing students with more extra credit in order to account for any uncertain changes that students faced during this time.
His lectures are basically the same as the powerpoints he sends out before, but that makes it really easy to study for the tests by just looking over the powerpoints. Attendance is mandatory through iClicker questions, and points accumulated by attending TA sessions. There's online textbook homework, which feels like the most time consuming.
I was dreading UT 'Online' cause COVID, and while some Profs made the nightmare real, Prof P was not one of them. Enthusiastic, organized, and SO nice. You knew exactly what to do each week, material was clear, great lecture videos, tests were fair. Pro tip: Go to office hours. He'll clarify ANYTHING and even spend loads of time just chatting too!
He not only organized the course well, but was fair and really seemed to care. Good sense of humor and clear communication helped, not just with the biology but also online classes with COVID. Office hours were really great for clarifying anything and having sciency chats too. Bonus points for the accent. Heyji the TA was AWESOME too!
Dr. P is an amazing prof for bio! His lectures are concise. We had 3 midterms, each worth less than our homeworks and quizzes. He adjusted his class format super generously for us in response to the pandemic. You'll be in good shape if you take his class. Not to mention, his TAs are super great!! I will be taking him for bio311D next semester.
Tests are lecture heavy, so they aren't too difficult (mix of mc and free response). Lectures are easy to follow and Dr.P is pretty funny. The TA's are super helpful and host review sessions before each test. Weekly homework and quizzes from mastering (which you have to buy), that aren't difficuly either. Overall a solid course and teaching style!
I love Dr. P! He is super underrated and probably one of the best intro bio professors at UT! He was very accommodating during COVID, a great lecturer, and super funny! The tests are pretty straightforward but if you are struggling on a topic his office hours are very helpful. Definitely take him if you can!
So considerate and understanding!!
He is very understanding of the fact that students have lives outside of school. He's accommodating and doesn't try to bury you in coursework. His lectures are thorough and can be funny. Definitely recommend!
Dr. Partridge was amazing for 311D! Make sure you do the Mastering homework to ace tests. EVERY POINT COUNTS. Do well on quizzes, discussions, and homework. Do not skip them or turn them in late. TA's grade a little harshly on free response of tests, so take detailed notes on lectures. However, if you put in the work, you'll get an A!
I had Dr. P for both 311C and 311D. Absolutely WONDERFUL professor and is super helpful in office hours! Lectures are engaging, but make sure you take good lecture notes because his exams are based primarily on his lectures rather than the textbook. We had Mastering homework and quizzes due every week as well. Take his class if you get the chance!
Made a tricky online course totally manageable and entertaining. You knew exactly what to do and when to do it. Mini lecture recordings were fun and clear. Covered a lot, made it relatable, and was a decent, supportive person all semester. The Chemistry Professors should sit in on his class and see how it should be done!
I liked Dr. Partridge as a professor. He lectured well, had room to ask questions, held office hours and had resources you could use. BUT, his TAs rushed through discussion&didnt provide a friendly environment for learning. They graded the FRQ section on tests EXTREMELY hard. To the point that it was unfair to a freshman in an intro bio class.
Take another Bio Professor! Lecture heavy, difficult to take notes. TAs grade hard and unfair on short answer tests. SQ Cap is for a grade and used for attendance.
This class is very lecture heavy and it's hard to grasp the material because all it is is ppt presentations. The tests are HARD. There are multiple choice and FRQ's that are graded harshly. Dr. Partridge is a nice guy, but the teaching style didn't do it for me. There is squarecap every class, which I tend to screw up as well.
Yes it's lecture heavy, but the lectures really clarify concepts. Everything counts, so if you keep up with homework, discussion and squarecap questions, you bank a lot of points. Exams reflect the lectures and are pretty fair. Dr P is very friendly too, couldn't ask for a better Prof for my first semester!
If you pay attention in lectures you'll be fine. The tests are all based on what is said in class. The TA's are awesome and hold review sessions before each exam.
Dr. Partridge is very clear in his explanations and expectations. He is very accessible during office hours and is always eager to help his students! Exams are fair and usually just follow class powerpoints, but they require some effort to study for. Homework, squarecap (end-of-class quizzes), and discussion sections can help boost your grade.
Love Dr. P. I think he's a really good lecturer but if you don't catch everything he also uploads additional lectures. Tests aren't too bad. I advise filling out the learning objectives AS YOU GO instead of just at the end. Reading the book also helps. Do not rely on review sessions. Go over LO, hw, discussions, and the study section on pearson.
More than half the points come from ongoing assignments, easy to do. The exams makeup the rest. I flunked the first exam and Dr P reached out offering to chat, gave tips and I rebounded in the next few exams. Really surprising to get offered such a personal interaction in a big intro class and as a freshman. Funny and friendly too!
Dr. Partridge is very entertaining in class, which is good because you have to pay attention in lectures in order to pass this class. Exams aren't too difficult, but they are timed, which can be stressful. I put mandatory attendance because although he doesn't take attendance, you will have squarecap questions at the end of each lecture.
Dr. Partridge is a very fair prof and I had a really bad time my first couple of weeks and we met up and he actually helped me and provided resources for my rough time. He truly cares about his students and making sure your grade is fair and not test heavy at all. We have square caps each class (those are hard) n textbook assignments each week (ez)
Dr. Patridge's class is lecture heavy, so please attend it, as he goes through the lecture slides in detail. There's also many other assignments to compensate for the diffucult exams, so don't worry if you don't do too well on it. As a person, he is very caring so please reach out to him if you encounter any diffculties. I did, and it paid off :)
Covers the biology basics you'd expect, but with a good dive into details. Dr P knows his stuff, loves biology, and goes out of his way to make things clear. You have every chance to make an A if you keep up with things. Quick to respond to emails and very friendly too. Even indulged me with a chat about soccer after class too (he's a Brit!).
I really love this professor's lecture style - there are a lot of visuals that he uses to explain concepts. I had him for 311C, and took him again for 311D. The work outside of class (aside from the reading) only takes about 2 hrs total, and I've honestly started not reading the textbook and doing fine. The test material mainly come from lectures.
I would trust this man with my life. While attendance is not mandatory, he does squarecap each class. If I missed class, I would just do them from home. The grade distribution makes it really easy to get an A, even though the exams can be a little tricky. Everything on the exam is in his lecture slides, so don't read the textbook. I loved Dr. P.
Hard exams, content seems not too bad when ur in lecture but the exams were pretty in detail.... so you need to master the basics of the material and rly get WHY things work to do well. Its not impossible but you gotta work for the A. Good man tho.
Failed 311C in the Fall, and retook with Partridge. Shocking difference in structure and delivery. Organized, clear, and enthusiastic. Can't argue with the exams either, makes you think but fair. Big class, but I got an answer to every email within a few hours, and appointments scheduled within a day or so. Wish all profs were like this!
Dr. Partridge is a great lecturer! His slides include a lot of visuals which helps you understand the concepts better. All of the material on the test is on his slides, so I would take detailed notes based off of his lecture slides. Make sure you come to class because he does squarecap during every class.
A great professor! His lectures cover everything you need from the textbook and are engaging and fun. His dry humor is hilarious! Only downside is that he's British (joke)! Lots of opportunity for clarification, lots of understanding for student's specific circumstances. I did not read the textbook at all, but i heard some say it helped clarify!
Love Dr. Partridge as a person. I don't really like biology, so I always found this course challenging. However, I'd still say his test are pretty fair and he offers a lot of credit aside from the midterms. My tips would be to pay attention in lecture, attend office hours, and make a study group!
Straightforward lectures and an overall really good professor. You can tell he really cares for his students' wellbeing. Homework isn't too bad and you can get by without reading the textbook if you really pay attention to lectures + watch his Panopto videos and annotate your notes. Gave extra credit. Squarecap was a pain, but you'll be ok!
Dr. Partridge is awesome! Engaging lectures, plenty of extra credit, and very patient, kind, and accessible outside of class. Bio can be tricky because it's a lot of details, but Dr. P is on your side and would love to work with you to get you to the grade you want! Go to the lectures and attend office hours when you can, and you should be fine!
This class requires constant reviewing of material to memorize the material. It isnt crazy hard, but you need to get down the studying starting that very first week. Catching up in this class is hard. photosynthesis exam is hardest. He had a tendency to throw in a few random weirdly, specific questions you cant prepare for tbh. Overall good class.
Overall great lecturer but tests were much more specific than lecture material. Also does squarecap questions at the end of every class, and missing a few each time can slowly eat up your grades--some are quite hard for the time period he gives for them.
Partridge is a good professor however if you are not good at memorizing small details of lectures and applying them to test questions it is extremely difficult to do well in this class. There is no extra credit in this class in comparison to the other biology professors. I would not recommend switching to him if you did not have him for BIO311C.
A remarkable lecturer, well-organized class, helpful TAs. Midterms were the most challenging since the FRQs covered specific details. However, they are only 12% each and the lowest replaced by average of all 3. He also gives ECs, not much, but enough for a helpful bump. HWs, Discussions, Squarecap are ~ 50% of the grade so don't forget to do them.
I had BIO311C with Dr. Partridge as well and didn't do as well, but after meeting with him to discuss my grade, I managed to do much better in 311D! Tests are a little difficult, but each midterm is only worth 12% of your grade, everything else is easy. He is very caring and overall I would definitely recommend taking Dr. Partridge!
Partridge is so caring and goes above and beyond to help students. There's EC/squarecap/HW/3 tests/final, so you can do well if you bomb a test. I adored him but his tests are weirdly specific and not always reflective of lectures imo, so for that reason I wouldn't take him again. If you do take him you'll be in good hands, just ask for help!
Dr. P is very caring and truly wants his students to do well. He's well-organized and gives a ton of extra credit to balance out the grade distribution. You can get by without reading the textbook. Watch panopto vidoes before class and annotate. His tests weren't too hard either. Show up to discussions and the TA will give hints on what to study.
This class can seem challenging right off the bat, but as long as you take the time to study the content in the homework and the discussions, exams will be very manageable. There is a lot of content in each lecture, so review his slides after each week to make sure you don't miss any key concepts. Overall, an A is very achievable.
An Intro Bio experience that is organized, engaging, fair, and fun. I took C and D with Dr P, and while challenging, it was always doable. Exams covered lecture content. HW helps clarify. Lil EC smoothed over those weeks when I slacked off a bit. Refreshing to have a Prof that is aware the first year of college is a challenging experience!
Dr. P is tough. His MC on midterms/tests are crazy specific and out of hundreds of slides he might pick one obscure fact on a random slide to test on it. He's a great guy who clearly knows his stuff but tests are just really hard, specific and based on lecture. He might mention something for 30 seconds in lecture, but it'll show up on the test MC
Everything is setup to be pretty manageable. Weekly homework and discussion are high scoring, meaning you can lock down a B by just keeping up with the class. Some of the exams push you to know things a bit deeper if you want that A though, which is fair enough. Shoutout to Dr P though. Lively lectures and always available for help or a chat.
Reading heavy. Lectures are long/boring but they come with detailed slides. Each lecture has a GRADED 6-question "quiz" at the end. Homework is in an online program w/ the textbook which was kind of costly. Exams were hard, I only managed to get a B+ through studying tirelessly. I guess overall it was alright but the class was not enjoyable at all.
Took as an online summer class. 15 wks done in 5. Covers a huge amount of stuff, but the exams and assignments are all pretty easy. Big picture rather than specifics. Only really dropped points on the weekly quizzes. Clear schedule/structure, interesting, and the prof delivers some entertaining and enthusiastic lectures. A summer class done right!
I took his 311C springs class and 311D summer class and both were great. He does a great job at explaining content while making it interesting with acc funny jokes. often offers extra credit and even though there is a lot of content his class is fair.
I took Partridge for Bio311C and D and I loved him. His lectures are engaging and he really cares about what he is talking about and his students. His tests are not easy by any means but heavily reviewing lectures (TAKE GOOD NOTES!!) and going back through homework is helpful. If you are struggling don't be afraid to reach out to him
Overall, Dr. Partridge is a very nice guy and tries to make lectures engaging, but I still found myself dozing off in lecture. His exams are very specific (went over charophytes for 15 seconds and then there were 2 questions about it on the exam), and it's very easy to get points off in the free response because he curates a specific rubric.
Organized, fair, and actually replies to emails. Really liked the focus on exploring science rather than worrying about a ton of work and stress (summer class). Yep some of the exam questions are tougher than others, but how else do you actually test how much someone knows. Best bio experience after dealing with 3 bio profs this year for sure.
Dr. Partridge is one of the funniest and most caring professors I've had; he made both BIO 311C and D a breeze!
Lectures are posted online and are recorded to rewatch at your own pace. He is very helpful and makes sure you understand the material if you have any questions. Office hours are really helpful, if you have questions. Discussions are not mandatory. Attendance is taken through square cap at the end of class, but you can do this from anywhere!
Despite what others say- Jonathan is an awesome guy. Lectures are long but he makes them fun and is really passionate. TAs are great and if you study hard and pay attention, he will make sure you succeed. Online textbook isnt mandatory (I would read it) and uses easy SquareCap quiz after each lecture. Really funny in lecture and is engaging.
Knows his stuff and is very enthusiastic about it. Covers a ton of content, but it's explained well, and built around good examples and fun stories. The exams are more than reasonable, but it's really refreshing to have an upper level course that breaks off points from exams into homework and (fun) projects too.
Dr. Partridge is AWESOME! One of the best! He is very funny, and his lectures are engaging! His lectures are very specific to the exam, and helpful when studying. The material is definitely challenging, but his tests are very fair and directed to his class. Usually 16 MCQ and 4 FRQ. He cares about his students, and their own personal success! :)
Dr. P is amazing! He's so funny. Although, his tests are pretty hard. The last midterm and the final are the easiest, though. Go to discussion to get the answers to the weekly assignments. There's homework weekly but takes an hour to do max. Study the slides and you should be good.
Dr. Partridge is a great micro professor! He was brought in to make the class more difficult so the students retain the information better for further classes. There's 3 online exams, 2 easy projects, homework, and the final. He's a really entertaining lecturer and super available outside of class (really wants his students to succeed).
Professor Partridge is amazing! His lectures are long but so engaging, and he is a clear and straight-forward person. He has clear expectations and is a very fair grader; he also answers emails quickly. Highly recommend him, even if biology isn't your best subject.
There is a lot of content for this course making it difficult, but Partridge was such a great professor. He offers a lot of extra credit and all the tools you need to do well in the course
Hilarious professor. Love learning about his British slang. Very passionate about biology and lectures are interesting but are also just read off of a slideshow, making going to class basically pointless. The exams were constantly over applying the concepts when we just learned the basic concepts in lecture but nothing else. Made doing well hard...
His microbio class was easy, if not a little disorganized. I really can't say anything bad about him because he's a good lecturer and the exams were very representative of the material we went over in class. A safe option if you need a microbio credit.
I enjoyed being taught by Dr. Partridge, however I wish he'd allow the class to be more active during lecture, because I feel like he talks a lot to which led to me dozing off. Besides that all the tests are proctored online and the lecture slides give a good idea for what will be on the test. Also HWs, Squarecap, and extra credits boosts grades!
God I love him. But I HATE square cap. my o my it is the wretched thing on earth. like I am all for getting students to pay attention to lecture but it does the same effect if I watch the lectures at home. getting A's on all your exams is not enough if the participation is weighed so heavy :(
You'll learn a lot and be entertained too. Great structure to the class, with exams being low stakes compared to other UD classes. Weekly homework and three small projects makeup the rest. I switched my major to micro after this class, so that should tell you everything you need to know.
great professor, you can tell he really cares about his students and the material. Would definitely recommend
Just finished Dr. Partridge's summer session for BIO 311D. He's an excellent lecturer, but his exams were quite tough. Maybe if I took his class during the fall or spring term, I would have enjoyed it more. He's a great teacher, and keeps class engaging while making biology interesting. A good choice!
Took him last semester for 311C. He is the best lecturer I have taken & is very passionate about the subject. His lectures are very interesting as well. The course was difficult because the exams were very hard. There would be specific questions about things that we barely covered. The textbook is helpful, but the lecture slides are more important.
I took Dr. Partridge's 311C class and struggled greatly. His lectures are long and intense and his tests are very difficult and have really specific questions that were barely disccused in class. He does not give out any test review material or any practice questions. The TAs answer your questions very broad and never provide a specific answer.
This has been my favorite bio class I've taken! Dr. Partridge explains concepts very well and is very understanding. He highlights how microbio is applicable to the real-world. This is my 2nd class with him, as I took his intro bio 2 class, and I'm sad he doesn't teach another bio class I need. If you need a credit that BIO326R satisfies,TAKE IT!
Good professor. He had understandable lectures, and homework that helped your understanding. Quizzes were tough but no problem if you went to lectures and did the homework. However, do not listen to him when he says the final is 50% of the last unit. It is a lie. Also, try to stay awake during his lectures. His British accent can be very soothing.
Dr. Partridge is very passionate about microbiology. However, I do think his lectures are overwhelming and dense and aren't really interconnected. He tends to jump from topic to topic. It makes it difficult to study for exams as they're easy but very specific. So if you didn't remember the right things, tough. He does provide extra credit though.
What I truly loved about this class was the grading structure. Yes exams are a majority but squarecap, homework, and discussion also weigh so much that it boosts your grade. The TAs were wonderful and were always accessible via email or office hours. I loved the extra credit that Dr. Partridge; you can clearly tell he cares about his students
He is awesome, lectures are inspirational and well planed out. Exams are very indicative of the lectures and are fair. I enjoyed his class. the point breakdown is 56% with homework and projects filling in the rest.
Excellent lecturer who genuinely cares about the material and students. Course designed so each exam is only 12% of grade with easy projects and homework, so it's not hard to do well. Exams are very lecture heavy and detail oriented but doable.
He is a good professor, but his exams are super specific. They are proctored and online so no notes. It is by no means easy to get an A in this class, but it may be easy to get an A- or B+ because of the grading scheme. To get an A in this class you need to be on point. This is not an easy class, but it is not a hard class. He may add discussionsec
Dr. Partridge is really helpful, and it was so welcoming taking his class as a first year student. His lectures, although long, are extremely engaging. He makes jokes with the content, which helps enjoy the course overall. His TAs are amazing! However, the tests CAN be challenging, and the Squarecaps can be tricky, but nothing impossible.
Amazing and hilarious lecturer! TAs are super helpful w Zoom Exam Review sessions and always there to answer questions. His exams really are not that difficult and his exams are entirely lecture based so you can just review the ppt slides and you will be good. Lots of extra credit which raised final grade by 3.4% ! Light work!
Dr. P is a really nice guy and it is clear that he cares ab his students. Class is very lecture heavy. Exams can be hard, but weren't as bad when I learned how to study for his class (grading scale also helps a lot). I failed an exam and he reached out to me about my test, met w me one on one, and congratulated me when I got an A on the next one.
GOAT. Really sells important and fun micro is. Great course structure with plenty of attainable points in projects, homeworks, and low stake exams. Covers a lot, but feels like good prep for later Bio courses.
Stepped in to take over the class after Dr. King left under weird circumstances. Used the same slides, exams, and as
Stepped in to take over the class after Dr. King left under weird circumstances. He pretty much delivered the same class but improved organization, kept us on track, and also added an exam grade averaging policy that really took the sting out of Kings grading structure. Thanks for doing a great job Dr P!
Lots of material, but exams were low-stakes and straightforward. Lectures are engaging and he has a good sense of humor. He also records his lectures if you are unable to attend class. HW due every Sunday and 3 small projects make up the rest of your grade. As long as you watch the lectures and do the assignments, you should be able to get an A!
Dr. P was a cool professor who cared about his students. I sometimes found lectures a little boring, but he made funny jokes that kept the class engaged. I'm a big fan of his grading structure; tests aren't worth as much as other professors, so it's more achievable to earn a better grade. Tests are somewhat difficult but doable if you study slides.
Partridge is awesome!! His grade weighting makes it very doable to get an A because homework and discussion assignments are weighted pretty heavily. Tests could be pretty hard and required a lot of studying, but if you put in the effort an A is very achievable.
Professor Partridge is very understanding and generous with his course load and how we are graded. His lectures have all the information you need for the exams. A lot of times we will have questions that will go outside the scope of the class and he would always want us to be curious and learn more. His classes are also very engaging and funny.
Don't get me wrong, he was very funny and very entertaining in lecture, however I couldn't quite gauge his content. He had a lot of stuff in lecture, but some odd minor things would be in the exams. His grading scale helps to get an A/B if you try. I just couldn't understand well through his british accent...I just didn't retain enough info
I took AP bio in high school, so the concepts of this class were easier for me to grasp than someone who doesn't have that background. I enjoyed Partridge's lectures and thought he was very funny and personable, however sometimes the test questions were over minor concepts. I had a lot of technical difficulties and partridge was very accommodating
Dr.Partridge is an amazing professor, he makes the class and work load very manageable. His exams are all online, and I ran into some major tech issues during the final, but he made sure that it wouldn't hinder me at all. If you can take his class you definitely should
I loved Dr. Partridge. I took AP Bio my senior year of high school, so this was all review. 3 unit tests, 1 final. All tests (including the final) can be done remotely and are monitored for cheating using AI. Take note of what the MasteringBio homeworks are on. Memorize. Whip out the Quizlet, its the easiest way to do it.
Dr. Partridge is one of my favorite professors. He clearly cares about what he is teaching. Attendance isn't technically mandatory, but you have to do SquareCaps graded for accuracy. His exams are not super difficult, but also not easy either. Although, if you study, review the slides, and go to discussion, it's easy to do well.
I took Partridge for both 311C and 311D, I could not recommend him enough. Tests (including the final) are all online. His TAs are awesome, they always hold a review session right before the test and tell you what you need to study. Intro bio is boring but he responds to feedback and tries to make it as engaging as possible. Great class and teacher
Even distribution of assignments and not too much homework. Exams were online.
You can tell that Dr. Partridge is passionate about what he is teaching which makes his lectures way more engaging. His tests focus mostly over the lectures and there is lots of extra credit to make up for any lost points. His syllabus is super clear and outlines all the assignments and grading policies for the class.
Lots of opportunities for extra credit. No final, 3 midterms which TAs host exam review for which is pretty much exactly what you need to know for the class. Dr. P is also very passionate about his teaching and will go above and beyond if you ask extra questions. TA's host practice prep session weekly which have problems VERY similar to exam.
Take this class if you don't want to learn bio but want an easy grade. Going back, definitely wouldn't take for Bio 1 because I knew nothing going into Bio 2, but would take for Bio 2. Tests are super easy, all online. Professor is funny, I think I went to lecture maybe three times.
I had Dr. Partridge for both BIO311C and BIO311D. He is a great guy! The textbook is optional to read. If you pay attention and go to your TA's discussion times you will get a good grade. His exams are proctored online during a window period so that was nice. His final is a lot harder than midterms so just be prepared.
Took the summer micro class. Practically asynchronous, so easy to take while working over the summer. Fair number of assignments and a nice focus away from exams. Great lectures, covers core stuff and subjects I never thought about. Dr P knows micro, explains things well and even online sells it as a very interesting field
Organized, accessible, great grading scheme with low stakes exams, and just damn good lectures. Great guy to talk to, he loves micro, and its infectious. Rethinking my major choice after this class.
It was a summer class but the workload wasn't too crazy. Quizzes were fair. A single project was fun. Some topics I struggled with and Dr P met with me several times to help explain. Friendly guy and his lectures are so enthusiastic. Really sells the importance of micro over a variety of areas. Great but challenging course. The TAs are great too!
The best summer class I've taken at UT. Well organized, built to be accessible, and well paced. The lectures are fun and informative. Great class for new content and a great refresher on a lot of early intro bio content.
I'm a micro major now. GOAT Prof. 🐐
AWESOME professor! His lectures are engaging and far from monotone. Exams are low-stakes, balanced with homework and an easy, high-point project that you get time to complete after exams. I took him for microbiology and would definitely take him again!
This class made me realize how much i love biology. Dr Partridge is very enthusiastic when it comes to the subject. Attending pre-exam review sessions helps tremendously. It's the best thing you can do for your grades. You can definitely do well if you engage in the course and use all your resources.
There is no way to fail the class because of the way it is set up. However, he does not properly set you up for his tests. Instead of having a clear study guide or test review, you will have to try and look at 4 weeks worth of content for numerous hours just to pass. His TAs were amazing tho! Helped me out so much! Not the best but not the worst.
LOVED the structure of the course. Built to be supportive and less stressful which means a lot to freshmen. Dr P was the sweetest. Take him, and if you do, talk to him. He goes above and beyond to help and encourage you. Genna is TA is a superstar too!
Partridge is the sweetest little British man. He truly cares for his students and wants what's best for them. That being said, his tests can be pretty tricky because of their weirdly worded/specific questions. Only need to study lectures for tests, I found rewatching them helpful. He is also generous w/ EC and HW is easy. Best option for 311c imo!
Partridge is a good professor, but his course was tricky. There are discussion assignments/homework due each week. There is a lot of content for each exam, so good luck if you're taking this +chem. Exams consist multiple choice/free response. End of lectures there are mini quizzes. There is a lot of extra credit out there to help boost your grade.
Caring professor, tests are a bit tricky, but if you put in the work to review early and through lecture recordings, you will be just fine. He understands that mainly freshmen take this course so he structures the course to cushion transition. HW is easy, TAs are amazing, Square Cap as attendance, a lot of information to digest per lecture.
If you haven't taken AP Bio get ready to work for your grade in this class. Dr. P is an awesome guy, super passionate about what he does, and explains things in a good way, but his tests are brutal. The final especially. The HWs and extra credit cushion your grade, but be ready to know concepts very in-depth as that's what his tests expect from you
Read off slides and added random unimportant details to lecture. HW, squarecap, and P&P super easy 100's and collaborative but tests were awful. 1st test avg was 73, 2nd avg was 69, and the 3rd avg was 79. No exam prep/review stuff. Kept saying final was easy but hardest test fs and brought me from A+ down to B+. Gave lots of EC tho and nice guy.
Professor Partridge is a super engaging lecturer. His weekly work such as hw, square caps, and P&P papers are easy and serve as a grade cushion. His tests are difficult which is made worse because there is no helpful review material. Lots of extra credit which helps, but overall a lot of stress over an intro level course due to the exam difficulty
Lots of easy attainable points in homework, class wuestions and discussion. Exams are tough, but pretty low stakes and bumped by extra credit. The review sessions are a big help, great TA team!
The midterms are tough, but feel like good prep to get you to pay more attention and take things seriously. The other assignments and extra credit balance that out, lots of easy points. Office hours and exam reviews really help with prep too. His TAs are the sweetest and he's really kind too. Lively lectures!
A great recap on intro level classes and a really broad intro to microbiology. Really enthusiastic and insightful lectures, fun projects, and fair exams. Dr P thinks Microbiology is the best biology subject and I think im a believer too now
Pay this man. Best class I've taken at UT, well organized, great assignments and most important interesting. Turned me back on to biology as a career path and made me believe profs actually do care.
Super kind and caring - understands that most of his students are freshman and new to college, tries to ease them in. Lectures pretty interesting, if a little quick moving. Many extra credit changes. Most TAs are great, mine struggled a bit. TESTS ARE HARD, and hard to study for bc no practice problems. Overall really passionate and kind!
Dr. P is the best, and the TAs are super great as well. It's clear that they all care for the students. Although the class is rigorous and the exams are difficult, information and resources are easily available to students, and Dr. P gives plenty of opportunities to help you earn the grade that you want.
I just wrapped up 325 and wanted to loop back and say that I didn't know how well this class was structured when I took it (now i have a comparison). I also didn't get how much Dr P listened, supported, and tried to prepare us for genetics. You're one of the best Dr P!
Dr P had most of his grades come from homework since the exams were harder. There is extra credit so that helps. The lectures were him reading off the slides with a joke here and there, but with the lights turned off the entire time so I fell asleep. The TAs were the most important part of the class though since they had their reviews.
Dr. Partridge is a great lecturer - his classes are engaging, and the tests focus on the material covered in lectures. Quizlet and Unstuck AI were super helpful for studying. Attendance is mandatory, but the grading structure makes an A very achievable.
Dr. Partridge has great lectures and is really funny, but his PowerPoints were mainly pictures and he doesn't provide any practice tests or questions, but there is a good amount of extra credit and the class structures makes getting an A not too hard. My TA gave us her notes from when she took the class which was also really helpful for studying.
Dr. Partridge is very understanding and a cool guy. I had a really hard time paying attention to his lectures, though. He's funny, but he talks for the entire duration of the lecture and has put me to sleep quite a few times. His exams are difficult if you do not come to class or listen to the recorded lectures and homework barely correlates.
Does a squarecap session at the end of class for attendance. Tests are very lecture heavy and have both MCQ and FRQ, my only thing is I wish he would make practice questions. Has extra credit opportunities throughout the year, overall really nice guy and can tell he loves biology. Shoutout to Genna, best TA ever, so sweet and so kind
Dr. P is the best professor I've ever had. He explains every concept in depth and wants his students to succeed. He provides a multitude of resources (UGCA reviews, practice worksheets every week, recorded lectures). He weighs his exams less so that students are not as stressed. Truly the best ever!
Very nice and funny professor. However this class has a lot of content and the exam gets very tricky, but each exam only weighs about 10% of your grade, so that's good. The weekly homework and the research papers are worth more, so make sure you do those. I just wish the exams are easier and less content heavy
Dr. Partridge is nice, but his exams were quite difficult. It was difficult to anticipate how the exams would be structured, and I personally struggled with the FRQs. Additionally, I had a hard time staying focused during lectures.
Retaking the class this semester and Dr P delivers exactly what I had hoped for in my freshman semester. A supportive organized and fun class that really helps you adapt to college. Exams are tough but fair. Loads of practice questions and extra credit. His office hours and one on ones are SOOO helpful too.
Took the class last year and enjoyed it, appreciated the overall structure, but felt it covered too much stuff. This year I'm SO glad it did. Really great class to prepare for upper MBS classes as well as the MCAT with both content and step up in difficulty. Dr P is a gem.
Not great for 311c, exams are difficult to predict and they actively try to trip up students on it. Luckily there is a lot of extra credit and cushion assignments, but a lot of unnecessary extra time spent on them due to failing exam averages. Nice guy, but if you want an A there might be better options for 311c
Taken Fall '24: Dr. P is the goat. Lectures were okay- kinda boring imo, but SO many resources. Self taught myself a good amount of the material. Lots of extra credit, awesome TAs, hw/squarecap holds a good amount of weight so reasonably easy to get an A if you put in the work, but don't expect it to be an easy class.
Summer class covered a lot, but the “quizzes” and final exam, as well as homeworks and projects were all very fair and doable. Fun lectures and Dr P is a gem. Went to an office hour to ask about research and he stayed on for an extra 30 min to just nerd out about micro with me. One of the more helpful and encouraging profs I've met at UT!
A summer class thats actually put together for summer students. Lots to do but fair work and all accessible, as was Dr. P. Dug the projects!
Great class, lots of ways to score points and fair exams. Went above and beyond when I needed help due to personal drama. SO supportive and understanding
Dr. P is the goat. His lectures are genuinely interesting, and he ensures that every topic is detailed thoroughly. Regarding tests, if you do the exam prep that he provides, you will do just fine. Overall, he is just a funny British professor who wants all of his students to succeed. Take him fo sho.
Exactly the kind of class i needed after losing interest in biology (thanks genetics). Fair, fun, and feels actually relevant in what we cover and how we do it. Changing my major yo 🐐
His lectures are boring and not helpful because all the information is already on the slides, and there's nothing for you to write down. On top of that, his tests are really hard, with the frqs being worth 50% of them.
lol sure. Lectures are lively and give you all the info you need to know. The exams are fair, some tricky qs sure but the frq are ok i guess unless you don't pay attention to the lecture and study tips. The practice worksheets are also a big help. A 1 star is crazy bru
There are other better professors, so choose from those. You'll be glad you did. Currently writing this in class and I want to drop out 13 weeks in. :(
His lectures are a little boring to sit through and his lectures can be pretty unhelpful since he mostly restates what's on the notes. As for his exams, a major portion of the questions are lower on the difficulty, but there are a few questions that will or are meant to trip you up!
His lectures are pretty long but its full of good information and not too boring. His midterms are pretty hard so you must learn all the lecture in details to have a good chance at passing highly. His practice midterm reviews are very simple but the test doesn't really correlate because they're much harder. FRQ every midterm which gets graded heavy.
Firm but fair class and exams, and a structure really helps you get used to college. Loved his “treat yo self” extra credit, and if you stop by office hours he's great to chat to for clarity and general advice. Blessed to have him my first semester.
Exams can be tricky, but they are fair. Weighted high (70%) but that goes for all intro classes now apparently. Extra credit is helpful and makes you learn from mistakes. Pro tip, go talk to him. Its like therapy only you learn more bio while you get to vent and have stresses eased. The accent helps too!
oi hughie microbio
Dr.P is amazing and the extra credit is what makes this class an easy A+. He gave out 20pts of easy extra credit which adds 4% to your grade. Only con of this class is the lectures can be super boring and drawn out. He does have a textbook but its not necessary. Just watch the lectures/take notes. Exams are MCQ+FRQ and are easy. Easier than AP BIO
Fair, organized, enthusiastic about the subject and accessible. Asked for a pre final prep meeting and he set one 2 hrs later. Feels like he really cares and was happy to just chat about college stuff. Top prof!
The final was a gift and so was Dr P!
Dr. Partridge is a great bio prof; you can tell he really cares about students and wants them to do well. Exams are MCQ+FRQ but not hard to pass if you study the lecture slides or read the textbook. Two (pretty simple) homework assignments each week, and he also offers a lot of extra credit towards the end. Definitely recommend this class!
Straight up fire class. Killed it Dr P!
Great lecturer. Weekly online homeworks, optional smartbook, easy weekly surveys, recorded lectures. Class is content-heavy and tests always come with unfortunate surprises (questions that test arguably overly-specific details). With the large amounts of content in his slides, his expectations of what to specifically know weren't very clear.
Lot of content, but follow the learning objectives and the TAs review sessions and you'll know where to focus. The exams are fair, and tilt into putting micro into practice. Projects are easy and kinda fun too. Dr P is a gem and was always happy to help and talk micro and more. Such a great class 👍🏻
His assignments & homework are very simple and short, but they are not that much of a grade boost. The grades are very test heavy. He does not provide practice tests, but does provide practice worksheets that do NOT reflect what will actually show up on the exam. The MCQ portion of the exam is easy, but the FRQs are awful!
He's a sweet and caring guy who really wants to see his students succeed. His lectures are a tad bit long, but he tries his best to make it as engaging as possible. There is extra credit, however, the problem with this course is that it is very exam heavy, roughly about 70%, and it doesn't help that there isn't a lot of material for adequate prep.
Lot of course credit (70%) comes from exams, but thats standard all intro classes now. Exams can be tricky, not just memorization, but doable. Ongoing assignments help as does some reflective extra credit. Office hours are a big help if you need it, get Namrata as a ta if you can!
I've had Dr. Partridge in the past, and loved his class, so I decided to take him for microbio, and it was the best decision. Loads of extra credit, and he gives ungraded practice problems every week that are similar to the exams. If you can, take his class!
He is a decent teacher, but his lectures make me want to fall asleep... Test heavy definitely, and the questions get confusing because they are so much more in depth compared to slides and review material. Manageable if you put a lot of time into it.
Just a great and supportive prof. Its tough but feels like its good prep work for future classes. Its not easy and you have to put in the time but Dr P and the tas (shout out to gargi) are always accessible. Funny guy too!
Great professor. SO much extra credit and leniency in grading. Great lectures and interesting content, attendance wasn't mandatory.
Though his lectures are long (over 75 mins), he was a great professor to have for Intro Bio. His exams were from lectures, but they are weighted more heavily now (because of the department). However, he would make his test specific, even if the concept was only discussed in 1 slide. He also gave us easy extra credit assignments (20 pts total).
Exams were on the easier side, but there were a couple of questions meant to trip you up. Study anything and everything on the lecture slides, read the textbook/go to office hours if you're confused about something and he will help you. Study greater depth than what's on the lecture slides, and do the practice worksheets! Doable A for sure.
I messed up the first two exams (work and chem) but Dr P reached out after each and I finally met him. Great advice and hes been a motivator ever since. He really cares so make sure you take him if you want a supporting class.
Dr. Partridge's lectures tend to be pretty boring, but he provides a lot of material for exam prep. His exams also tend to include questions from the prep material, but some questions are slightly absurd. Overall, though, if you study the textbook and the lecture slides, you should be completely fine. Lots of easy extra credit too!
I was told by a couple of people that the textbook was just there in case you need things rephrased, and not necessary. Listen to me now: READ THE TEXTBOOK. It is incredibly helpful, especially if you struggle to stay awake in his class. He does seem to really care about his students, and tries to make getting help as accessible as possible.
