Saffold was the best professor I have had at UWM! 3 tests throughout the semester and he never puts anything on the exam that isn't covered in lecture. Classes aren't mandatory, but they are crucial to a good grad on the exam. His stories and examples really hammer home the content and he makes business law both exciting and easy to understand!
Can tell he cares about what he is teaching and is passionate about it. Class goes by so fast because he has so many stories that relate to business law that he has experienced. Would take again.
Best professor I've ever had. If you go to lectures and actively listen to his stories you'll do well. He even went above and beyond to help me with a project from another class
Grade is only based on 3 exams (25% each) and online homework (25%). You get a cheat sheet (1 pg double sided) for each exam. Exams are all MC or T/F. Offers a "bad day deal" extra credit if you don't do so well on an exam. Definitely attend lectures for his notes, much easier to understand material in class than by reading the text.
Heavily glorifies drinking to a graduate school class. May be "cool" to undergrads but we are here to learn. Was off one day and told us he took a muscle relaxer. Came to class late. Tells us he will post things at certain times, but he is ALWAYS late. Says he will be in office hours but never answers the door.. Confronted him about it, got defensi
Saffold is the best hands down. Great professor, gets the class involved, and grades fairly. 10/10 would recommend
Fun guy that enjoys law and tries his best to help his students, but he's got a lot of them. The tests were the trickiest I've had at UWM, so do the reading and take good notes. Lectures were definitely the most helpful and narrowing down the large amount of content the book gives.
Keeps a boring topic interesting. Has high energy and good stories. Very full of himself though.
Saffold is one of the top professors at Lubar. I highly recommend his class. You MUST go to lecture. When taking exams (with notes), go with what is discussed in lecture. Saffold is a natural at teaching. I was amazed at how he involved everyone in his large class to participate. He's approachable during office hours and gave great advice.
Professor Saffold makes uninteresting material interesting. Awesome guy who knows his stuff. Typically the people who don't like him are those who don't come to class and expect to have a grade handed to them. Best professor I've had during undergrad.
Saffold is a cool funny guy. Knows what he's talking about but beware his tests are tricky. Know the material all the way through, Connect helps. His lectures are important although attendance is not taken it is highly encouraged. If I were to grade him as a teacher I'd give him a solid A- or B+
Would not accommodate me at all despite telling me he would
His lectures are very good! Makes the material very interesting! Only hate that he is horrible with providing test examples or problems for students to study in order to prepare for exams! Homework is always uploaded on Connect very late so BEWARE!
Saffold genuinely makes you want to come to lectures. Half of the time in lectures is spent giving real world examples, pulling nothing from the slides, and just making sure people understand topics. He knows who comes to class, and is worth developing a good student-prof. relationship with. If he likes you, he'll ask if you want to go into law.
He always puts the quizzes on Connect late. Brags during class and wastes a lot of time telling stories. Isn't very clear about the requirements of the course. Not great at communicating outside of class.
Really enjoyed going to lecture. Although attendance was not taken I recommend going because most of it will be on the exam. Exams are difficult, I suggest going over the reviews provided on d2l. No homework just some quizzes online.
Not very personable. Hard class and he treats everyone as if they're dumb. Thinks he's the greatest person to walk the earth. You may not have a choice to have him as a professor, so show up to class, pay attention, and study for the exams.
Difficult class, but you will pass if you go to class. Professor Saffold lectures are hilarious and he makes class time go by fast.
Saffold is an amazing professor! You can tell that he really cares about students and wants to push students to work harder. His lectures are engaging and often lead to large class discussions. His lecture is always full because people genuinely want to be there. Be prepared to study, work hard and participate in class and you will do well.
He tells a lot of stories and gives examples of cases that help make the material more relatable. The tests are really hard; it's more about how they're written and test strategy. The test review are not good and full of errors. He's all over the place, one day organized and happy, others it's like watch out! Makes a lot of partying references
Professor Saffold was by far the best professor I've had here at UWM. I wish I could take more classes with him. He doesn't give out homework and gives you answers to the exams in class. Also, he asks us what answers we want during the exams and gives them to us. Easy A but you'll learn a ton. He's the reason I'm going to law school in the fall!
I hate school with a passion... He was by far the best professor I have ever had. This is my fourth year of college and the first class which I always tried participating in lecture discussions. He makes lecture so much fun with real examples and loves to play devils advocate to keep debates going in class. Must go to class to pass but its worth it
The online homework on Connect is a joke. He tells stories to help the material be relatable but the class is definitely geared for the 18-20 year olds. If you like being taught with bar humor and YouTube videos, youll love him. He wasnt accessible outside of class and makes everything the students fault. Tests are hard to prepare for.
Best lecturing teacher you will ever have, but tests aren't easy.
Saffold is one of my favorite profs at UWM. makes business law interesting, engaging with lectures, and gives multiple chances to earn extra credit/boost your grade. Most of your grade is determined by the exams, and to do well on them you'll have to take good notes in lecture and be able to apply the material you're learning to different scenarios
This class is really hard. He was really messy with his teaching and jumped around a lot with his notes. He taught from his experiences and once it was exam time, it was applying to made up scenarios. I was pretty on top with things but still struggled with the exams.
One of the best professors Ive had this semester. Super funny. Really cares about students. A tip that helped is to take pictures of his slides and write down definitions and examples he tells. You NEED to come to class and listen; be engaged. Lectures will help you understand how to apply concepts to real life situations that will be on exams.
Overall he was a good professor and cared about the students. However he is very blunt and uncensored. His lectures are entertaining and keep you involved. I highly recommend participating he holds a lot of value in that. Also definitely write down his examples they are a huge help and similar to exam questions he will write.
what he teach in the class is form different from the book you require to buy. their are ten quizzes on Learnsmart website most of them definition of some law terms that are not will be in the exam. the exam is extramural hard because their a lot of confusion about the style he teach and what is coming in the exam. also the price of the book150 $
TAKE SAFFOLD! He is hilarious and class is entertaining. Pay attention in class and take notes dutifully and you'll have study material for exams. Participate in class! Homework is a very easy A and exams are very fair. No need to read textbook. He gave free points on exams randomly and also curves exams as well. Easy class if you get involved!
One of the most engaging professors. He makes class fun! Take notes, he is great at giving examples. Mostly only gives exams on what he lectures on. He doesn't take attendance but I would highly suggest going to every class. Tends to switch things up as he goes along. Loves participation and wants to know your face by the end of the semester.
Saffold taught knowingly the materials and made class very enjoyable. He knew the right things to say to make the class debate. CONS: - Never replies to your email. Emailed once during the semester, nothing. Emailed once again after semester, nothing. - Throughout the semester at times, it seemed forgetful. Overall, average-good professor.
Not the best teacher but not the worst. Exams are hard. Graded by very few things. Don't think I would recommend, take someone else if possible.
I thought he was hilarious and provided great classroom discussions/debates. I personally have a hard time remembering law material so his exams were extremely difficult for me. He likes to joke and give you a hard time but if you dont get offended easily youll be fine. I loved his class!
I have no hate to this teacher, but The worst teacher you could ever take, he's a joker, teach different from the book, never answer to emails, he shows off a lot, I pay money to learn and get what I learn. jokers like these should never be teaching at school. I would recommend taking this class with another professor.
Couldnt have asked for a better Business Law professor. Saffold manages to make what could otherwise easily be a boring, tedious class something I looked forward to consistently. Download his lecture outlines, use them to take notes, and review them that night as he suggests. Test Qs require understanding concepts, not just memorizing definitions.
Yes he has good experience but he should not be a teacher. He doesnt know how to be a mentor hes extremely unorganized. No study guides he doesnt even follow the note outline. Study for hours on exams, go to lecture and still only get a C on exams. Good luck!
His lectures are fun and interesting. He has guides online that has some of his class lecture notes and then you have to fill in the rest that is missing. There is a good amount of debate in class which is fun. If you show up to class, take notes, and study the notes, you'll pass easily. He knows his stuff too!
Overall, pretty solid professor. His lectures are his main core of the classes but not required. But I do recommend going to them because the amount of info he gives. Exams are tough, hard questions, really tricky too. But as a professors he's not bad, funny, experienced. He loves debates and will pick on you if you don't talk in lecture.
Never replied to emails during coronavirus, could not get ahold of him. Great lectures but studied for hours for exams only to find the application of the lecture material was not done in class. A great guy that I wanted to like but given the lack of organization, helpfulness and other issues a mediocre professor. Disappointing.
You can study for exams but his lectures dont help for exams. Hes not organized. Extremely closed minded. Exams again r nothing like the lecture. Always a huge curve because he doesnt prepare you for exams. Doesnt answer emails. He doesnt come to class prepared.
Attend lectures, pay attention, and take GOOD notes! This is an extremely difficult class, and most students end up failing the test. The test are all application questions. Luckily, he curves the grades a lot. Also, make sure you ask him if you can use a cheat sheet for the exams, because he might let you.
Coronavirus turned this class online. Thought Saffold was funny and had good relatable stories to tell in class. But, from the start, I thought the class was disorganized and hard to follow the different lecture sheets provided on canvas. Tests are all application questions and made it extremely hard. Most of us failed miserably, graded on a curve.
Online during COVID: Homework was an easy A, quizzes were a medium effort A, tests were a HARD A. Tests covered a lot of content. Professor also scheduled exam reviews without asking if the time worked for students. This prof's undergrad law class was much better (granted, it was in person). This graduate level course was dry, no offense 2 the prof
This Prof. was very condescending, promotes his own political agenda and if you disagree, he's rude. I'd like to think he's not racist but since my opinion differed from his and the fact hat I was a white female, he made an "example" out of my paper in front of the class. He's got an ego and that's about it. Disorganized, grading was all over.
Not a competent professor. I know that COVID has made online learning a challenge however Saffold stood out to be one of the worst of mine to adapt to the current times. He doesn't check emails, does the bare minimum for students, does not respect his students and has a curriculum that is oblivious to the world around it. Avoid this "Professor"
Just a very bad professor in general! Acts like he is the best professor at UWM when he is one of the worst! Try to avoid taking anything with him!
I originally took this class in person, but COVID changed it to online. Class exam averages all in low 60s. Emailed him multiple times throughout the semester with NO response. He thinks he is better than everyone else and it's very noticeable. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!
Notoriously difficult to reach, and when he emails back, the responses are quite rude and disrespectful. I asked for help 3 times throughout the semester and he failed to respond all 3 times. The exams are tricky and whether you understand the material or not does not help as the questions are "best guess" kind of deal.
I contacted him throughout the semester, every response i got was degrading, disrespectful, and rude. Avoid him at all costs he doesnt care about his students.
Attend every lecture. Every. Single. One. First of all, it will be the only way you do well in this class. More importantly, you will get more from this class than most others combined if you can be attentive, engaged, and think analytically. Professor will use real-world examples and prioritize learning over pandering. Wish he taught more classes.
He spends a lot of time in lectures making jokes and voicing his displeasure when nobody asks him questions. His lectures, in my experience, didn't help very much during my exams. Exams which have lazily copy-pasted answers, inconsistent formatting, repeated questions and answers, AND he requires Proctorio. I regret not dropping this one.
Possibly the hardest to reach and most self righteous professor you will have. Do not bother emailing him with questions or concerns as he will either not listen to what you have to say, or gaslight you into thinking you were wrong all along. TAKE SCREENSHOTS OF ALL HIS ANNOUNCEMENTS AND EMAILS!!! He should not be employed by UW-Milwaukee.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. I have emailed the professor multiple times and every time his responses were days later and were degrading, disrespectful, and rude. One time during class I voiced that there were multiple repeat questions on the exam and he said "hope you got them right". I learned nothing.
Dr. Saffold has amazing lectures every class he really uses great examples and even online had fantastic conversations with students. The exam on the other hand was extremely hard to prepare for and was left in the dark on what material would be covered. My suggestion is pay attention to the lectures skip over his babbling and find the main points
By far the worst professor I have ever had. Just a very bad professor in general! Acts like he is the best professor at UWM when he is one of the worst honestly! Try to avoid taking anything with him! Emailed him multiple times throughout the semester with NO response or every response i got was degrading, disrespectful, and rude.
The lectures were quite entertaining to be a part of, and also had quite a bit of information. On the other hand, the exams were completely different than what he stated and were the most difficult of my college career. I wouldn't recommend any of his classes until there is some change.
I took his class a couple years ago and can say it was the hardest class i took at uwm. His tests are super hard and they were proctored.
His class honestly wasnt that hard but oh my goodness he is just a terrible person. I got a concussion in his class 5 days before an assignment was due and he couldnt allow me to take it again because I waited for the last minute and assignments are open early to plan for things like this
Easily one of the best professors I've had. Do the work, talk to him (don't email, talk to him), and put forth an effort. He will make accommodations when necessary. He even went out and gave answers to the class in the middle of an exam. People that don't like him didn't give this class enough time or make a good effort to get to know Saffold.
His lectures consist of many examples that leads to great discussions in class. His lectures also really are educational & can be utilized in real life circumstances. Attending lecture is more important than looking at what he posts on canvas because you have to understand the concept more than the terminology = aiding you to do better on the exams
I loved Saffold. He made lectures so interesting and gave you all the materials you needed to do well on the exams. He is not easily reached outside of class, so if you need to talk to him wait after class or go to his office hours. Try to participate as much as possible! Put in the work and try, you will do well. Do not take him online!
Loved having Professor Saffold. As long as you participate in class, you will find it a very interesting course. He is a funny guy too, he will make jokes now and then that the whole class will laugh at. He also gives you extra credit for participation sometimes and will take ten incorrect questions from your exam and throw them out. Great guy
Didn't know how to use Canvas to help his students at all, was horrible at responding to my emails despite his claims of in his syllabus of being responsive, I had to email him to put in an exam grade three weeks after taking it, etc. Sadly, he is the only one to teach BUS ADM 391, but, there is a different professor who teaches over the summer.
This is my favorite professor at UWM. He makes the lectures very engaging, very funny, and relates the coursework to the real world often. This class can be difficult if you don't understand the basis of American law. Exams can be difficult, but if you prepare, study, and go to every class, it will be a very enjoyable class to take.
Online course, exams are curved, grades took almost a month to be uploaded, no papers or projects, no extra credit. I just took the quizzes and exams without reading or watching any lectures, and I got a B+. Quizzes have two tries. Exams are fully proctored. Okay class to take online, if you devote some effort I'm sure it's an easy A.
DO NOT take an online course with him. He doesn't answer emails for weeks at a time. When he finally cares enough to get around to it, he will answer a 5 paragraph email with one sentence. He completely neglects his online students and doesn't know how to use/organize Canvas. Truthfully he should not be allowed to each an online course.
Saffold is the most engaging professor I have had. He knows how to command the room and make students feel comfortable participating in class. He is very funny and is always instigating debates between students. Make sure to take notes in lectures, as that is what he tests on. You'll have a better time in this class if you go to the lectures.
Does not appear to be sober, due to agitated, aggressive behavior and overly defensive whenever he is asked a direct question. Must have majored in gaslighting, as that is all he does. Lectures, quizzes & tests are disorganized and grading is all over the place. Unprofessional and rude, especially given that we are the customers. Needs to be let go
Basura. Muy mal.
Lost in himself and his ego problems, extremely defensive and condescending to students who ask direct questions as he dances around the topics, makes excessive party references, talks about his formers jobs rather than making it about the students. Hides out in his office with some interesting characters, comes in to class with glazed over eyes.
Guy needs a drug test. He can keep deleting reviews on here if he wants but we are just going to keep posting them due to his arrogant, inappropriate behavior. He needs to be let go otherwise he will never learn as long as he is being enabled. He's a woke agenda promoter and gives lower grades to students who disagree with his politics.
One of the best professors I've had. Goes out of his way to engage students during lecture. The more you participate in class, the better you'll do. Tests are application based, and sharing thoughts/questions during his tangents are the best way to practice. Just don't take it personally and stand your ground when he pushes back on your ideas.
Obnoxious and defensive every week during lectures, is disorganized and struggles with the basics on Canvas. Does not respond professionally or post grades on time. It is not my job to tip toe around this guys ego. He needs serious etiquette lessons! We noticed the glazed over, dialated pupils, and he appears to not be sober at times. Hard pass.
You are required to buy a textbook and a code to access the online portal. The notes have little to do with the homework, quiz, and exams and there is no help preparing for exams. They are fully proctored, Extremely difficult and no note sheet. The class avg on 1st exam is 56. If you have questions don't expect a reply he does not respond to emails
Probably the worst professor I've had UWM. Doesn't care about his online sections. Exams are worth 70% of grade and uses proctorio. First exam had 3 of the same exact questions appear 18 separate times (6 each question), with a total of 50 questions for the entire exam. If you don't understand those 3 (18) questions than you'll get a 64% off rip.
Don't understand the bad ratings... Pretty sure it's just the same people giving bad reviews over and over again. Guy is hilarious, exams are 60 questions but only graded on 50 questions. Meaning you can get 10 questions wrong and score a 100%. Attend the lectures and you'll be fine… Really not a hard class.
Do NOT take an online class with him. The exams are ridiculously hard and through proctario. It's absolutely the most ridiculous class I've ever taken. It's almost laughable.
I can not express enough how horrible this class is. Easily the worst professor I've ever had. Exams are worth 70% of grade and lazily graded through proctario. Doesn't respond to emails. If you're not gonna put in effort, why make us use proctario? Unbelievable
This professor might be the worst professor I've had besides Sonia Khatchadourian. This professor uses fully proctored online exams, and yet doesn't provide any study guides or reviews for exams or what chapters are included in the exams. He also does not show your grade throughout the course, or what exams/assignments are weighted at. Horrible.
Worst class I've taken here.. He does not give any exam review or study guide.
No study guides, three exams are worth 68 percent of your grade. The questions on the exam are ridiculously wordy and made to deceive you. The course readings do not help with the exams.
The 3 tests are based on what he discusses in the lectures, but he does not do exam reviews or study guides. However, there was an SI leader. He also creates lecture outlines to help students take notes. He sometimes moves too fast when changing the slides, and the slides he posts to Canvas look slightly different from the ones used in lectures.
An amazing professor and lawyer. His hands-on learning experience makes his teaching so much better. He goes off of scenarios and real-world examples so you truly learn and can apply your knowledge.
Saffold is a good professor but i didn't understand how to fully succeed in the course. Homework is fairly easy but the exams are all multiple-choice scenario questions which i found very confusing how to study for since the lectures are different. I recommend going to the SI meetings. I enjoyed the lectures though, he's funny and interactive.
He is lazy and will only use online system to grade quizzes and exams. His exams are based on real world scenarios - be ready for this! There's really no point of spending money on the textbook students aren't going use for exams.
I would avoid this professor. I've had to reach out twice, and both times met with an attitude and condescending tone. So much so that I considered filling an official complaint. The class material itself I can't say much, to be honest I never read or watched any of the material- So difficulty level 2/10 (B- not bad)
my 1st mistake was taking this course as a new business major in the 1st sem. he was funny in class cracked jokes a lot but very unapproachable tbh. flies through his presentation and the tests are super difficult. he doesnt post extra material for those who might not get it either. this class is v difficult dont listen to anyone who says otherwise
This is one of the best professors I've ever had. The class isn't easy, but it's not as difficult as people say. This is definitely a college course so participating in lectures will be very important. However, the professor's humor and engaging teaching style make lectures enjoyable, unlike others who rely on slideshows.
Professor Saffold is a good professor. He has a unique teaching style that not everyone will enjoy. Although lecture is not required, you should go to every lecture. You will fail if you don't go. He respects participation and is pretty flexible if he sees you put in effort. I really enjoyed this class and the lectures were always interesting.
I loved this class! It was one of the only classes I was able to give my full attention to as it was engaging and interesting. Go to all of the lectures because the stories and notes will help you remember the content. Participation also matters!
If your taking BUS ADMN 391 Bus Law, re-think. The online class has proctorio, along side emailing him would be a nightmare (although he did reply pretty fast). The biggest down side to the online course of this class is proctorio, the proctored exams and the amount of things you have to remember because the exams aren't open book or note.
Great guy with solid experience in the field. Ask questions about content that piques your interest, understand concepts in addition to facts. Every lecture attended increases chances of passing with solid grades!
Super rude professor. Threatened to fail me in front of the entire lecture because I nodded off to sleep. He doesn't know his students life's and it was extremely rude. He only goes through the slides no homework just tests and quizzes. Also when explaining things he's gross like spanking a little kid in a sexual way to explain a word like?
My second favorite teacher at UWM (apart from Zheng Cheng). Class isn't mandatory but you will fail if you don't go. Exams are heavily based on lectures and real world examples, all multiple choice. Difficult course but if you study and attend class you're good. Lectures are engaging, entertaining, and he connects with his students.
Professor is incredibly knowledgeable about his subject but comes off incredibly disrespectful and rude. He created a very clear power dynamic from day one: I know more than you do. Not only did every single person in our class feel uncomfortable asking questions because of his attitude and demeanor. He is incredibly disrespectful and arrogant.
This professor makes deals with students that they do not have to complete the final. These students are women, but he uses the upper hand that he has as a professor due to the fact that you need to pass his class. Threatened to fail a student for leaning their head down when sitting in a chair, the student was not sleeping either. Unprofessional
The worst professionalism I have ever received from a professor. Favored female students in class and made deals with students as well to not take the final and get an A. This guy wanted you to know he had the "upperhand" on you. Abuse of power for sure.
I dont recommend this teacher at all. For exams, he uses proctorio. Its a testing software that tracks everything you do. When I was taking his exams, I feel like it was a evasion of privacy. Also for proctorio, you have to download a chrome extension, which is so weird.
Saffold does a fantastic job of getting people to participate in class and keep students attending despite no attendance scores. I can understand where people get the idea of him being egotistical, but I like his humor. Ask questions when you have them, if he can put your face to a name it will absolutely help you. Ive never seen him "Strike deals"
Decent professor. Great in person, but bad online content. His lectures were pretty good - we would participate in large conversations with him regarding each subject, where he would encourage us to question the law as much as possible, which helped me learn. However, the note templates he provided us had nothing to do with what was on the screen.
He has a harsh sense of humor sometimes but he's an amazing teacher. I had him last semester and one of my favorite classes at uwm. You actually learn things that will be helpful throughout life. He doesn't like disengaged students but his lectures are fun so paying attention isn't hard!
