John is the best professor I have ever had! He explains the material very well to everyone's understanding. His labs are entertaining and he will work with anybody to understand the material and get the best grade possible. He is interested in students success, not only in his class. Even more he is basically the coolest guy every and super hot.

Only reason I passed Biology is because of this teacher. Very easy to talk to and always willing to help and answer any question you have with clarity unlike my lecture teacher. I wish he taught both lecture and labs because I would take him again in a heart beat!!

Great Teacher, very easy as long as you attend and do the labs. Very helpful, if you miss a class he'll let you take the quiz next time you come in. Just study the notes and pay attention to the labs and you get a 10 on the quiz. Wears nice clothes too ;-)

Wonderful! He is very helpful during class and is more than willing to answer questions after class if you need additional help. He is clear in explaining assignments and makes sure the class understands before moving on. Weekly quizzes are very fair and as long as you do the labs and read the material you will get an A. He's a great instructor. He made the material easy to learn. When I had questions on either the lecture or the lab I went to him. I wish he had taught the lecture too. That would have been great. He seemed to understand our questions and know how to relate the answers in a way that we could understand, being new to biology.

Jonathon was a great lab instructor. He kept things simple, and made the material and experiments easy to understand. He would always make sure you understood what was supposed to happen in the experiments even if your's didn't turn out the way it should.

Great! Makes sure you understand,responds to emails promptly, keeps everyone up to date with the schedule. No trick questions on his tests. The only thing he gave for grades in my class was tests, not too tough of tests though. Final was compiled by all the BIOL teachers, trick questions. Jon did it on a curve. Extra credit for never missing class!

Great teacher and funny guy. His class was cake if you study like you're supposed to. He only gives tests for class material and again, they are easy if you study. He explains things well, and answers questions straight-forward. Very good teacher!

Great teacher! His lectures are very informative so it helps if you attend his classes regularly. If you have any trouble understanding the material he is great at offering extra assistance. He usually ends class a little early if you have any questions you can stay after and he'll take the time to help you. He's also great with e-mails.

He is an excellant teacher. I took a Mon/Wed class so every monday we would have a test. Wednesday would be another lecture day and then the test on monday, repeating every week. I felt that having a tests on every chapter instead of a large test on three chapters helped me learn better.

Exactly how a science class should be! Jonathan makes learning about biology fun and interesting and his teaching style is amazing. Attendance is not mandatory (but I happily went every week!), tests are somewhat challenging (study!), grades on a curve, minimal homework (all online). Most engaging teacher at SLCC! Great teacher! He is actually concerned with how much the class is LEARNING! I took this class to prepare for my biology 1610 class, and I feel very ready to take it now. He is great to help before and after class, and he does not make you feel dumb for not understanding, but rather makes you feel smart for asking for clarification!

He is awesome, his teaching techniques works, I recognized that he uses a little bit of psychology to get you interested, I do not know exactly how, but he has a way to show the class that he cares and how much he wants you to care as well. If I get lucky to get more teachers like him, I would be set, but I think he is one of a kind. Good times.

Jonathan is one of the best teacher I have ever had. He is very clear on what the main points are and he repeats them in class all the time. So we memorize the key points more easily. If you take Intro to Biology ,take it from this Professor.He told us the course would be moderately difficult,but he was extremely supportive to all students. He made it a point to learn individuals names and he actually cared about your understanding of concepts and your grade. He was always willing to talk after class to clarify a concept.

I had NO interest in biology prior to taking this class. In fact I put it off till the end. I signed up for jonathans class and I'm so grateful I did. He made the class interesting, I am retaining the information because of his teaching style, and he's very reasonable and helpful. Take this class from him. You won't regret it!

Seriously, it will be hard to find someone that can teach as well as he can. I was nervous when I started this class, but we willingly stays late after class with me and a few other students to go over the material for as long as we need. He truly cares, and he has an awesome sense of humor!!

Very good class. I took Bio 1010 in winter 2014 and he took what is otherwise a very dull subject made it interesting. I really enjoyed Biology for the first time and I felt my grade reflected it.

Mr Schumacher is strict and expects a lot from you, but he also incorporates humor and gives you every change to succeed. Schumacher knows the subject very well. The tests are hard and thorough studying for each test is a must (RECORD CLASS). He honestly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He is funny, not boring and communicates hard-to-understand concepts in a clear manner (much more straight forward than the book). Highly recommend!

Prof. Schumacher was great. He and my lab prof. Linda taught chapters pretty much in sync so i was able to get lecture and notes then go to lab for more applied learning about the same material. He does teach from powerpoint slides, but if you read the chapters before class its easy to follow along and jot down key points as he is speaking.

Jon is an amazing teacher! His lectures are very clear and entertaining but I do suggest you get a recording device for them. Take good notes He emphasizes specific things while lecturing that will almost 100% of the time be on the test. He is very flexible and if you email him before and let him know you will miss a test he will let you make it up

Prof Schumacher is fantastic! It is not an easy class, but I've learned more from him than any other science teacher I've had. He give great lectures, and will even take time before and after class to help students understand concepts, and even to discuss real life application. You will have to work for your grade, but you will know the material.

Only gave one homework assignment, he gives a test ever week, which may sound awful but actually is a brilliant idea because then you know you have to keep up and can't wait till the last minute!

He takes extra time even out of class time for those students that were confuse with the content been taught. He is patient to explain things over and over. He review previous class before he start the new class; which is good to keep reminding the material that will be all in final exam.

Only had one homework assignment, tests every week, pay attention and show up and you should be fine.

This guy is the best professor I have had at SLCC. Very knowledgeable, very patient, and he explains everything in a way that makes sense. If you plan on taking BIO 1610, take this class first. It will save you!

Jonathan is amazing. He is extremely helpful. He would stay after class with me multiple times for an hour to help me understand. You get short tests every 2 chapters, but if you study what he says you will pass. You dont get homework you just study. I would HIGHLY recommend him. You just have to realize its Biology, you're going to have to study.

Schumacher creates an interactive atmosphere by calling on students. He gets the class laughing and his lectures go by fast. He tends to simplify the material and can be really repetitive, but this is because he wants to make sure everyone understands. He cares about his students and is happy to help those who need it/ ask for it. Take him!

I'm currently taking this class and I'm hoping I pass! I have not taken such a hard class all my life! If you are NOT good at taking tests than this class is NOT for you! I would read before lecture, participate in class, study like crazy and still do poorly on the test. This class needs extra credit assignments or participation points added.

If you show up to class, study for the exams, & put in effort for this class, there is no reason you shouldn't pass. It was difficult & time consuming but he was really repetitive on important information, & his exams were clear, to the point of what he taught in lectures. YOU CANT SLACK OFF. He also has a sense of humor, which makes class bearable

He always makes the exams seem like they're going to be the hardest thing you've have ever done, but if you study, they definitely aren't bad at all. I found that using flash cards was a really good technique for me! Study study study! Overall, i would recommend taking him.

Honestly, his class was hard for me but never have I learned so much about Biology! He's a very good teacher. He knows his field of study very well. My favorite part about this professor is his patience and genuine care for his students to thrive. He told me himself he won't "spoon feed" his students information so you BETTER STUDY .

He is an awesome and understanding teacher! Very informational and willing to put things into the simplest of terms in order for you to understand!

Excellent instructor, patient and willing to help. Just make sure that you do your part in the course such as studying outside of class time and preparing for tests in enough time and all will be well.

Yes he is lecture heavy, but his lectures are great and he makes sure you know the material. You MUST study for the tests though they are more on the difficult side.

Mr. Schumacher was an awesome professor. He's upfront about the work and honestly everything he does and teaches is super relatable. He teaches by "telling a story". If you miss a class and have never taken Biology, it'll hurt you. He's genuine when it comes to helping his students. I learned more in his class than I did in my BIO1610!

I am awful at Biology. Jon made this class so interesting and I really looked forward to it. There is a lecture every class and if you miss, it is very hard to get caught up. I recommend recording lectures and listening to them later. STUDY! If you do not study for the tests, you will not pass. this is a challenging class but totally worth it.

Class can be easy if u make it so. I printed the PP slides to take notes and recorded the lectures. I'd study by reviewing and/or listened to the lectures while I drove to/from work. I never missed more than 1-2 q's on his quizzes. But I know a lot of people struggled. Show up, take notes, study: you'll get an A. He's funny, I enjoyed his lectures!
