boring as hell but understandable
He was a great prof for stats- really easy! Try to skip him for calc.

He is VERY boaring, but the class is easy if you have a good understanding of math. The midterm was very easy, it was the same as the one I found in the test bank.
He taught right out of the text, so it was easy to follow along as he spoke for more clarification!

Pretty good prof
knows his stuff; can not teach
Reminds me of a hobbit....but kinda cute in a clumsy, bumbling way. Forgets his calculator every class! Makes funny faces when concentrating or writing on the board. Helpful guy, very nice!
Slow, but really makes sure he gets the point across. I don't think he needed to spend a class and a half proving that the formula for standard deviation works.
He was a good teacher. He made stats really easy and I was never good at any sort of math. The questions on his exams are exactly what he gives as examples in class. Amusing to watch, easy tests.
Worst prof EVER, he knows all the topics but when it comes to teaching he SUCKS. He should have retired a long time ago

Well He basicly rambles about theory's and proofs and doesn't go over the test material.needed the Tutorials to know what was going on. nice guym funny to watch, but horrible prof. If you have trouble in math do not take a class with him. always available for help, if you try hard you will do good.
He's amazingly boring. If you think this won't affect you..think again. I put my assignment in wrong box and I didn't get a mark. So if you have an option go somewhere else.
Is there anyone who does not have a copy of the course outline?? get used to that, i think i would have done better in the class if i could've stoped laughing at him. Hes so hot though.. in a Wario kind of way.

Horrible! Boring, slow, unhelpful, inconsistent marking, WebCt testing for a math course??!! He emails mass emails constantly, is mindnumbingly boring, and impossible to follow. DO NOT TAKE COURSE FROM SELDIN!
He was pretty boring but I have never had a prof do so much for a class that was so dumb! I mean, how hard is it to figure out the calculator on windows? Maybe that was just me, though. I would recommend taking the course from someone else though.
this is the worst class ever he doesnt teach the matieral on the quizzes or tests and you fall asleep in everyone of his boring ass classes
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!! He likes to over explain his technique on marking, likes taking half an hour on giving you proofs that you do not need. He's useless do not take this class with him.

If you want to learn about how his computer doesn't work, take this class. If you want to use the windows calculator and do test on the computer, take this class. If you want to fall asleep any time of the day, take this class. If you want to learn statistics, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
If you are an interactive learner do not take his class, he just writes on the board for 40 minuetes and expects you to learn. Its pretty funny though when he asks if there is any questions, then gets mad at you for "Not knowing what we just did"
Good god, man. Do you remember the professor from the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" played by Ben Stein? Well, if that's the kind of prof. you want then this guy is for you. He get's easily off track and distracted. He's quite boring but seems to know his stuff. MAKE SURE YOU ATTEND THE TUTORIALS.

He is terrible! he spends so much time doing absolutely useless things. he overexplains things that are not needed and that are so simple it drives you insane. (like drawing a table/plot) AVOID HIM, he's a horrible prof!

He is not that bad. I have had worse profs. He is boring but knows his stuff. He is an average prof.
I suppose he knows his stuff, but he seems to stand up there and just flap his lips. I don't ever understand what hes getting at because he jumps around so much. If you have to have this guy, make sure you go to the tutorials. Everything becomes clear there.

Pretty boring class, but the guy's brilliant. Hes totally by the book, just go to the labs and listen in class and you will do OK. Still wouldn't really recommend his class.
He definitely knows his stuff. A lot of the lecture is stuff you don't need to know for the tests. I haven't been to his class in a month, I only go to the labs.
I can't beleive so many people are saying he's not bad. Probably the worst prof in the history of math. If you take his class you better be majoring in Algebra. I had high 80's in math throughout highschool, came to his class and failed miserably. Went to summer school with Draper and got an A. Don't take his class.
This prof does not know how to teach. Although i did well i his class, he does no let anyone talk or eat or make a noise, e treats each student like we are in grade3. It is a very annoying environment to learn in.
I have total respect for him. He has total respect for his students and he is very proper. His coke bottle glasses, pants hiked up to his front shirt pocket, his curly side combed hair! He is a cutie! His lips go weird when he is writing and lets his arm swing like it is fake. "Is there anyone who does not have a class outline?" Stat sucks anywhere!
His lectures are very easy to understand. And he is very kind to every student but just a little funny in the class.

Goes over the formulas without any examples. Does not explain things well. High failure rate. If at all possible, try to get someone else.

Im not sure why people have problems with him, because he is a good teacher. It's what you put in that determines what you get out of this class. Although his lectures are hard to follow sometimes, he gives examples to back everything up. I would reccommend him as a teacher to anyone who wants a good mark.

his notes on board are always clear and gives examples to clarify the theory. asks the students questions to make sure they understand. the material is not that hard, just study go to classes and tutorials and u'll do fine. he's a good prof
If you arent good at math to begin with he is VERY difficult because he explains everything like you already know it..he faces the board the whole time he teaches and sometimes writes down a big long example and then goes back because he messed up..very annoying! does not make the class even remotely easy thats for sure!
This prof is the worst prof I have ever had. He makes even the easiest thing so hard and confusing. He jumps all over the board so you don't know what he is talking about. Don't take his class!
A great guy, very nice, but an awful logic teacher for those who don't have a math background. He can't seem to abstract logic from math, and as such his examples in class are infuriating if you dont' have the right background. I've been told his tests were actually incredibly easy, but I'm glad I dropped the course. Prepare to teach yourself!
I love you seldin! he is a great teacher and i really enjoy him being a part of my life this semester. He is always willing to help and he is just great in general and he is so intelligent that it scares me a little!
The teacher jumped all over, made easy concept quite difficult. Make sure you get a text book, it is the only way to learn the material!

He is a very nice man with plenty of interesting, off topic computer stories. A very caring, innocent person with incredible knowledge of mathematics. However, he does not have the ability to teach his knowledge in a comprehensible manner. I guess he is just a natural and can't explain, to others, the way statistics make sense to him
Worst teacher I've ever had. Stands at the front of the room and rambles for an hour and then writes things on the board that are never seen or talked about again. Forces you to write exams on the computer and use the Windows Calculator that worthless. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Decent professor. Lot of unclear theory but examples are great, quizes are easy, and tests are moderate.

I do not recommend this prof. I found the class really difficult, and the professor did not help one bit. I attended almost every class and was still just at lost as the day before. Wording in his questions killed when it came to mid terms. Quizzes you can write 2x so you know the mc answers 2nd time around. I'm re taking the class now cause of him
I thought he was a good prof. matched with a good tut makes for a good easy class. Plan to take another of his classes.

Worst Prof iv had since i came to U of L. Only classs i would recomend skipping to recieve a better grade. His lessons have no direction and are confusing. He goes off topic daily, and will notify you throughout classes how to use calculater even though you cant use them on exams. Prep for our exams consisted of NOTHING that was on exams
Horrible! Stay away from him! Stats is already boring with out him teaching it. I had to take the class twice he was so horrible. Tests are stupid, and on WEBCT, who does stats tests on WEBCT? So lame... window's calculator, really? So Lame! This guy is not a Stats teacher! Stay Away at all costs!!
He goes through notes pretty quickly. Has an assignment each week, and one midterm, which is very easy if you understand the concepts. He isn't very helpful when trying to explain a question in class. He basically responds with really complex terms that doesn't help you at all.
Avoid this teacher unless you want to fail this class. He is very unclear and hard to get a hold of, goes off track all the time and is more interested in teaching the class about US history and slide rules instead of actually teaching us Stats.
His handwirting is hard for me to read so that I took notes seldom. Lab was more helpful for me to understand the course. Good luck and have fun ^_^
Terrible.. Spends too much time explaining everything and with messy writing. Assignments are easy. Quizzes/Tests are on WebCT.. and that is a joke for a math class.. windows calculator.. really? Final is weighted at 45%.. Don't recommend.

Alright, his lecture is pretty useless. He's just not very good at teaching at the lower levels. Just go to the labs and ask the lab instructor all your questions and you'll be fine. Seldin does have some interesting math insights and does know his stuff - he just can't explain it.
Nice man but shouldn't teach. Makes beginner calc difficult with his teaching style. Expect to hear about his Mac computer a lot. Gets very sidetracked.
He doesn't seem like a bad guy, but I found his lectures very difficult to understand, he went WAY off topic most classes and he just can't effectively teach lower level classes. All I can say is the tutorial and mathxl were the only reasons I passed the class. Avoid if possible.
Of the 30 odd profs I have had in my PS Career he is by far the worst. Ability to explain concepts clearly - FAIL. Use class time effectively - FAIL. Use the expensive text he requires - FAIL. He sees Math as the be all end all and for a mgt student its not. He is a nice guy but way too math smart to teach beginning calc.
This is the only prof in my university career that I would absolutely recommend to avoid. Extremely brutal prof (although a very brilliant and nice guy). Lectures are useless. You mine as well teach yourself the course. (I've had to teach myself the course on my own).
BY FAR THE WORST INSTRUCTOR EVER! I was putting in a minimum of 15 per week into studies (assignments, additional questions from textbook & Math XL) & was still FAILING the class! Only take classes from this instructor if you WANT TO LOWER YOUR GPA!! Instructor will spend half the class time talking about his Mac, slide rule or personal history
In a word: BORING. Lectures were extremely difficult to sit through and he made a relatively boring concept downright unbareable. The majority of the time, he sat at the front of the class and worked on the computer programs (of which there are 5, and they are required), which made taking notes impossible. He talked about Alan Turing more than math
Somewhat confusing teaching style in class, but very receptive to feedback and much better one on one. The guy is a genius - which means he doesn't get it when people have trouble with his subject, but he's very kind and is happy to give resources and extra practice. Textbook was AWESOME. I actually found the req programs quite interesting.
Get ready to work hard! It was alright. Seldin loves telling stories and he can be quite funny in a dry sort of way. Homework will take a long time. Tests are TOUGH. You need to know the material inside and out. Go to class, do the assignments, do extra practice questions and you should do fine... Else the curve will help you :)
