His lectures are awesome. There are 10 pop quiz literally, so be prepared to show up to class. For the tests, just study the notes and maps carefully and you're set.
Good professor. Makes a potentially boring subject decently interesting. I'd take him again for sure
Read the textbook assignments and make sure you're in class so you can take the pop quizzes (content is from the lecture before).
Lots of test questions from the textbook reading- you can't make an A without reading the text. Also, the quizzes are basically for attendance so it's nothing to stress about
I had his class for my Gateway summer semester and I loved it. He teaches you a new way of looking at culture and you're surroundings and how the land effects it all. Sounds boring but its very interesting. I promise. Pop quizzes are from material the lecture before so go over your notes before class every day and you should be fine. Go to lecture!
I love this class. Dr. Smith always takes time to give us studying advice before his lectures. It is apparent that he wants each and every one of his students to do well. His lectures may be long, but they're rich with vital information, and not the stuff you don't need to know for the test. Come to class, do your readings, and you'll pass.
I enjoyed Dr. Smith as a guy, but as a professor, not so much. His tests are pretty tricky and he gives pop quizzes that are supposed to help your grade, but just tend to bring them down! He kept class short but assigned readings that were on the exams.
I took Mr. Smith's class in the summer of 2015 for the gateway program. At first, I thought the class would be easy but I was completely wrong. There are 3 tests and 10 pop quizzes, and some of those pop quizzes are attendance pop quizzes which really boosted my grade but the tests are very difficult. It is based completely off lecture.
He's a great lecturer. Explains his ideas thoroughly and will clarify again if you raise your hand to ask. He does give out pop quizzes, but these are very easy if you take notes. Oh yeah, this is a note intensive class, so get ready to write and type. Attendance is sorta mandatory, since he won't post test reviews if people don't show up.
His lectures are great, but he doesn't post much of the info online so if you miss it's hard to get the notes. He gives pop quizzes but most of them are just "attendance quizzes." Gives two easy homework assignments that boost your grade if you do them. His tests aren't impossible. Requires studying, but easy to make an A in the class.
Dr. Smith is a very sweet guy who is passionate about his subject. His lectures are fairly easy to follow and he posts an outline and the map for the topic before the test. Tests require adequate studying. He picks at the details in his exams so write down as much as you can during lectures. He gives pop quizzes though so don't skip class!
Dr. Smith is a great professor, who enjoys what he teaches and is very knowledgeable. I found his lectures very interesting. If you take good notes in class you should have no problem doing well on the tests. He doesn't post the lectures online, so you need to go to class. The two essays are mandatory, but can raise your final grade 8 points.
Great all-around prof, lectures were interesting, tests were difficult and curve balls were thrown but if you pay attention he's a good choice.
Interesting class, he was very clear from the start what we were learning and was very organized throughout the semester. Definitely have to go to class.
Extremely boring lectures. Slides are all quote based so you really have to listen to what he's saying. Attendance isn't mandatory but he does spontaneous attendances quizzes. It's a pretty boring class, I don't suggest taking it if you have a short attention span.
Interesting material but hard to keep your attention. 311 specifically was rather dull. I would take him again for a more interesting course, but not recommend this course although its not impossible. 10 easy random quizzes which are half attendance, which count for a 4th test grade. Nice, very knowledgeable dude. Just show up for quizzes.
I read these reviews before I took him, and they were EXTREMELY MISLEADING. Although I enjoyed the content of his lectures, his tests are very quote-heavy and ridiculous. Doesn't answer emails. His tests don't represent what you learned AT ALL. Unfortunately, enjoying lectures doesn't earn you an A (or a decent grade) in the class. DON'T TAKE HIM!
Dr. Smith gave amazing lectures that were always interesting and eye-opening. I would highly recommend taking his GEOG 311 class! The tests are straight forward and represent exactly what he talks about in his lectures, and what was in the readings that he uploads to eCampus. There are also pop quizzes that are very easy if you were in class.
I didn't think the tests were fair. Overall, he had good lectures, but some had very boring content. He made the tests really difficult and asked rather insignificant questions. I didn't mind working harder, but I didn't get rewarded for it nearly as much as I had expected. Drink coffee before his lectures so you don't zone out and work hard.
He is an OK professor. I enjoyed most of his lectures. There will be about 10 pop quizzes, and most are just for attendance, so try not to miss. The tests are a little tough and really hard to study for. I felt that no matter how hard I studied, the test would still stump me at some points. I passed with a B, so I was happy with that.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! There are 10 pop quizzes randomly through out the semester so you can't skip class! There are also two essays which have very confusing topics. His lectures are all based on quotes so it is very hard to study and the tests are extremely difficult. I would not recommend this professor!!!!
Dr. Smith's GEOG 301 class is difficult, there is no way around that. BUT the pop quizzes he gives in class are 50% attendance. He only has two writing assignments and they are not long at all. His tests are challenging, but if you put enough effort in and attend class they are not impossible.
Boring teacher and makes you not want to go to class. There is a quiz every week and you don't know what day so you basically have to go to class to pass. The tests are hard and he teaches through quotes not facts so you don't know how to take notes. Also he refuses to use a microphone.
If you skip class you're pretty much screwed. You're gonna be shook when you take the first pop quiz and realize you're not as good at True/False as you thought, but you'll learn how to finesse them by the end. You have to put in the work to actually do well; if you don't study everyday you're gonna have a really hard time with the tests.
Smith is a great prof! His test are challenging but if you apply yourself and listen to his tips you can do well in this course. He does have pop quizzes but if your present during lectures and understand the material they will be a breeze. If you study a bit every night and read the assigned readings prior to the test, you will be fine.
This class counts as a language & philosophy credit for my degree plan. I was mislead to believe it was an ordinary geography class and boy was I told wrong. DO NOT take this class unless you are majoring in, or are genuinely interested in geography. Smith is a nice guy, but he is a lousy professor if you're wanting a simple requirement course.
Have to work in this class. GO TO CLASS cause he gives pop quizzes and material that isn't on PowerPoint will be on tests. Doesn't post notes online so if you do not go to class, you prob won't pass. Does his best to make the material as interesting as possible and gave extra credit assignment. Will help if you ask! Read assigned readings and study
Took lots of effort to not fall asleep during lectures. The powerpoint slides are primarily pictures with quotes from ancient geographers, so you have to actually listen to what he's saying. The articles he assigns to read are amazingly boring, and there are 3-4 questions on each one on the exams. Way too difficult for a 200 level class IMO.
I loved Prof Smith. His teaching style is definitely weird, and he doesn't post any material online so you HAVE to go to class, but if you go and take notes you'll be fine. There's also pop quizzes. All the test questions come straight from the lectures. He is very nice/interesting, and his class made me want to take more geography!
Do not take him. He is a good guy but his technique is terrible. He "teaches" his class using 200 year old quotes and pictures. If you don't go to class you wont pass. Half test is multiple choice and other half is map. Also post nothing online. You will need to devote ALL your time if you want an A or B.
Professor Smith's class is difficult, but if you attend lecture and actually listen and study you will do fine. He does not post his notes online so you have to pay attention but understanding the general concepts helped me a lot. His tests are a little difficult, but he gives a writing assignment that helps boost your grade by 4 points.
Was not pleased with this professor. He speaks very quietly so be sure to sit up front. Also, after EVERY test, he would enter the wrong grade. Here's an example: I would see a 87 in the grade book and then a week later he would say "oops" and it'd drop to a 45. This happened after EVERY test people!! But if that doesn't bother you, the work is ok.
In the online class, Dr. Smith posts around two, 1 hour long lectures per week, which basically need to be copied word for word to get a good grade on the quizzes and exams. He grades off specific comments that he made in lecture. His lectures are very beautiful in terms of art and music, but they SHOULD be put on 2X speed because they're slow!
I took his class online and it was great! He gives entertaining lectures and there is only one short paper. However, his tests do focus on small details, so if memorization isn't your thing, you might want to steer clear. But overall this class was very interesting and Smith did a great job.
I don't know why I took this prof. Everybody thinks GEOG is an interesting class. I used to love GEOG until taking this guy. No way to learn from his poetic slides. NOT RECOMMEND him at all. In addition, he must go oversea to update his knowledge little bit! if you want to learn and have a nice grade? DON'T TAKE HHIM then!!
Very interesting lectures and as long as you pay attention then the quizzes and test are very easy. Would highly recommend and would definitely take another course with him.
Take good notes and study lectures well to get a good grade on tests - they are lecture heavy! He curves for each test. There are pop quizzes at the end of some lectures, so show up to class. He never posts lectures online so be in class. There are maps to fill out for tests with lectures, but they aren't bad. DON'T PROCRASTINATE for studying!
You have to interpret his slides if you manage to catch them in the lecture. He is not sharing the slides online. If you have free time, go to his office and check his quotes by one by. Overall, not satisfied with the lectures and not recommend him for students who's major is not GEOG.
find someone else!!! DON'T TAKE HIM...
He is the last person ever i would take again!! Go with someone else..
He has two homework assignments and 10 pop quizzes. You have to show up to class and you have to study the maps in the book. He tests over obscure things that he didn't emphasize in lecture so you literally can't zone out for a second. He constantly messed up grades and would change them 2 weeks after. He's clearly not savvy with technology
Not recommended! Learned nothing!!
Easy A if taking online, but the grading criteria is so unclear. Questions are graded wrong on quizzes and tests almost every time, and he does nothing about. Not a bad class for the elective, but just get ready to be frustrated by the lack of communication. One quiz each monday, and three exams total. Essay for extra credit.
Prof is very confusing, always getting dates mixed up on syllabus vs his email. Many questions on tests/quizzes graded wrong but wouldn't change them bc the online section "is easier than my in person so you already have a better avg"ok we still deserve credit for right answers? 10 quizzes 3 tests. one paper that he grades easy. Don't buy the atlas
Answers on quizzes and tests are wrong and he doesn't do anything about it. No respect for students.
Booooooo
Unclear expectations, little communication, BORING lectures.
He is SO disrespectful to students. He doesn't email you back. He doesn't know how to use e-campus so portals are never up and grades are NEVER put in. His tests/quizzes are specific to what he says. Not facts, just statements. For his videos, if there is CC, open the transcript, copy/paste in a doc and look up words for the quizzes or youll fail.
GEOG 202 is a pretty easy online class and isn't a large workload. The lectures and class is rather interesting and worth listening to. As long as you pay attention, you will have no problem getting an A.
Test and quizzes are based on what he states in the video lectures so WRITE DOWN EVERY SINGLE WORD. His test and quizzes were not at all based on facts and on several occasions has incorrect answers for the tests/quizzes . 3 Exams (25% each) and 10 weekly quizzes averaged to account for the other 25%.
You must show up to make sure you get take all the pop quizzes but he lectures are boring and the PowerPoints don't have very much content
This class is not worth it. I have learned nothing and spent too much time trying to get an A for him to grade questions incorrectly and then not bumping up a grade .5 of a point. Doesn't respond to emails and the lectures are 75% irrelevant so its difficult to take out what you actually need. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. you'll thank me later.
Dr. Smith was not tentative to students. I was looking for an easy, online, life and physical science credit and this was NOT the way to go. I really had to work for a B. Lectures are 2, 1 hour videos every week and he speaks in slow motion. Exams were 65+ questions with only 50 minutes & I found myself rushing/guessing just to complete them.
This has been the worst class I have taken. Do not take this class if you actually want to learn anything. He has you watch two hour long lectures a week in which he shows you paintings and quotes. Also you have to read articles for each exam. He does give extra credit which is easy and I highly recommend doing. 10 quizzes and 3 tests
Take notes, look over the maps, and it should be an easy A. 3 projects that are mandatory but add to your overall grade.
I don't know what you heard but this isn't a blow off class. Lots of kids still can cheat but he's trying to rework his lectures so you can't. You will have to listen to the 2 hour long lectures every week and take notes. It will help you on the weekly quizzes and tests. He's a bad communicator and you're gonna be annoyed. It's annoying but doable.
Class is mandatory but so easy. 10 pop quizzes 1 test. 3 projects that add 2-3 points to your overall grade. Half of the tests are literally as simple as you are given a map of a state and it asks you to label its largest city and maybe a railroad or mountain range.
I love geography so I really enjoyed this class. His lectures can be a little drawn out at times, but most lectures were really interesting and I learned so much. He curves tests and gives mandatory extra credit assignments which add extra points to your average (or deduct from your average if you don't do it). Put in the work and you'll do fine.
Lectures can be very boring, but if you show up and take good notes you will be okay. Tests were often difficult, but if you study and put the effort in you will be okay. Random pop quizzes, you get a lot of credit for showing up and some are attendance quizzes, so just go to class- it is not that hard and will really help your grade.
3 hours of lecture videos a week but if you play them at 2x speed its not that bad. Tests can be tricky but overall it is not a hard class.
Good lectures with images and quotes to help keep your attention, and youll need to pay good attention. 10 pop quizzes in a single summer semester.
Make sure you're listening and taking good notes during his videos. The exams could be tricky but I was able to pull off an A because of his extra credit CCA's. It's not a very interesting class and you do not need the atlas. Best advice is to stop the videos to write down important things and download the readings before exam days.
If you're reading this and still have the chance to take another geography course, DO IT! This prof makes his class insanely difficult. The test question are designed to trick you and some of the stuff on the exams are not covered in the reading or lectures. I spend more time on this class than my fourth year classes. Get out while you can.
Honestly the worst prof I've had at A&M. 3 hours worth of lectures with quizzes every week. He NEVER responds to emails unless he feels like it. When he does choose to respond he's never willing to actually help you. His test and quiz questions are made to trick you. Avoid this class if you're needing an easy credit!
He made this class WAY harder than necessary. His quiz questions were made to trick you (true and false are very literal). I just needed to take this class as a culture credit and seriously regret picking this one. Emailing his is hopeless. Asked him to elaborate on the instructions for a project and he sent me what was in the syllabus. Not helpful
I took this class to fulfill a credit and it was the worst decision I've made so far. This class was so much harder than it needed to be. 2, hour and fifteen minute lectures a week that are crammed full of the the most monotone voice just talking. I would stay far away from the online class at all cost.
I have a Group Me with most of the students in my class and most people seem to think that he is not a helpful prof. Getting feedback from him is a challenge, he made us calculate our own grade for midterms, is inconsistent with posting quizzes at the right time and making them on the same scale etc etc.
i took this online class to fulfill a credit, thinking it would be an easy A. literally the exact opposite. the professor is not very accessible outside of class, and wording on tests and quizzes are made to be confusing on purpose (answers will contradict direct quotes from this lecture.) Material is useful and interesting, but way too hard
For an online class, he was really bad at answering emails and if he did they were not helpful. Many people struggled with this class and he didn't seem to care and was rude. If you take good notes and do the CCAs it isn't too bad, but there are definitely way easier culture classes to take.
Worst prof ever! He changed his rules on grading all the time and when students called him out on it he was always very reluctant to change it again. Trying to get him to respond to an email is a task in itself. Quizzes every week over 3 hours worth of lecture videos is not the way this class should be. Save yourself the trauma.
Don't take this class, other people make it seem way worse than it really is, but its definitely not great, this should be your last possible option. If this class isn't required, go take something else.
Dont take this class if you dont have to. He doesnt post the PowerPoints online so you can study them. No reviews or any guideline for his tests. 10random pop quizzes throughout the semester that you cant make up if missed and they make up a test grade. Tests are confusing and worded with very high diction, and very specific quotes from lecture
You definitely have to work hard for an A, but I honestly only studied the night before and got A's and B's on the tests. Pop quizzes aren't bad at all (and half of them were just attendance quizzes). Tests were very detailed and tedious so make sure to go to class and pay attention carefully. Not a bad class, but also not an easy A.
As an online, non-major class, this was difficult. There are 2 videos a week to watch that are about an hour a piece and also 2 readings a week that take about an hour each to analyze. ALL of the questions on exams and quizzes are in the lecture material, don't expect to find anything on quizlet or chegg. He is very knowledgeable.
His tests are difficult if you don't take good notes during lecture! Luckily, there isn't a textbook, so no outside reading! He made geography as interesting as he could, telling his lectures like a story. He give up to 8 points on your AVERAGE at the end of the semester! There are 10 pop quizzes throughout the semester, but they aren't bad.
I loved Dr. Smith's class! It is lecture based so definitely show up and pay attention, and you'll be fine! There are in-class quizzes randomly given throughout the course so again, make sure you show up! He also assigns homework assignments, but they only count against you if you don't do them. He's also so wholesome and sings in class sometimes.
DO NOT RECOMMEND. Makes you watch abt 3 hours of lecture videos made by him each week. These videos are made so monotone with NO words/ bullet points/ key words on them so you are forced to try to write down EVERYTHING by ear. Tests/ quizzes do not make sense with his lectures and they are meant to trick you. Only good thing is that he curves a lot
Professor Smith knows a lot about the subject, but his lecture videos don't have key points written out so you're taking notes from him talking alone. His tests are difficult and very detailed, so take good notes in class. He does add 8 points to your final average if you do the CCA assignments which is what saves your grade honestly.
I honestly think some of these reviews are too harsh. If you watch the lecture videos you should have no problem getting at least a B with minimal effort. He adds extra points to your grade at the end of the semester if you do the CCA assignments (extra credit). I believe it was 6 points added, maybe more. He seemed to be a nice man.
The lectures may seem difficult to follow from time to time, so I would record them to ensure there is no missed information. Dr. Smith is a super sweet man who cares and wants his students to succeed. As long as you genuinely pay attention in class you will not have any problems on tests and pop quizzes (they happen quite often).
Professor Smith's lectures offer a different way to look at geography. I hated geography before this class. You will have to work hard for an A, but a B will come pretty easily. You have to pay attention in class in order to understand the content, but I personally didn't mind. I wish I could've taken a longer version of the class.
He is very good at WORD PLAY.
Literally the worst professor I have ever had, spent 4-5 hours a week taking notes and watching 3 hours worth of lecture material. He does not respond to emails, no powerpoint slides , no outlines of lecture material. You have to write EVERYTHING he says in the lectures to at least try and pass his exams and weekly quizzes. Does offer extra credit
Prof smith does not care if you understand or recollect anything from his class. His lectures are the most boring thing you will do in college and his quizzes and tests are abosultely ridiculous. Doesn't respond to emails and if he does he will not give you at help at all. Be ready to work a lot in this class.
The most interesting class I've ever taken! Dr. Smith brings geography to life with his thorough lectures and impressive videography. He is an easy grader and curves the class extremely heavily. If you watch the videos and have a drop of intelligence this is an easy A! You should take this as a cultural credit or as an elective - you won't regret!
Lots of lectures and even when you pay attention to them the tests are still not easy. A lot of information and hard to remember. He has had the same lectures on youtube since 2018 and they are long and he speaks super slow. Definitely not an easy A.
Do not take this class thinking it will be an easy A. He posts hour long lectures on YouTube which are outdated and boring, and that's it. Test and quizzes are ridiculous with the amount of questions and time limit given. Does not respond to emails. Ridiculously difficult class/prof for no reason.
This class is not fun and not interesting. It is way more difficult than it needs to be as a cultural credit. The lectures are pre-recorded hour long videos that bore you to death. The test questions are immensely detail specific, and while you do get open note/open book, there is barely any time to go through them anyways. I would not recommend.
Professor Smith is very rude and not accommodating at all when it comes to emails and exams. There is too much information about to study on and none of it covers the exams.
You HAVE to go to class for those pop quizzes which r usually based on what you just learned the previous class day. Tests ARE HEAVY on lectures, his powerpoints aren't really of good use. I would def. study at least 12 hours to prep for exam. (curve ~5pts). Take good notes!! U rly need an 82 and 8pts are boosted from those hw assignments (3, ez)
I cant believe I paid for this class at Texas A&M. I took the course as an online course, This professor did the bare minimum, class videos are pictures of oil paintings that have nothing to do with Geog. You can get this credit by taking a different class; this class is way too complicated for no reason. Don't waste your time.
The worst classes I have taken at TAMU. I took this online to be an easy A to fulfill a credit and it was anything but easy. Two video lectures a week about an hour each and they were incredibly boring. You have to take detailed notes on what he says because the video is just a bunch of maps and oil paintings. Tests are incredibly hard. Don't take.
9 quizzes make up 25% and 3 tests that make up 25% each. 3 CCAs (short projects) that add 2pts each to final grade. Tends to add curves to tests and dropped the cutoff for final letter grades by 3 pts. That being said, tests and quizzes are very difficult. ONLY take this class if you absolutely HAVE to, NO EASY A here.
The only downfall is the lecture videos are long but the class is definitely an easy A. He curves the test every time by about 6 points. Then offers 3 separate assignments that are worth 2 bonus points each on your total grade. There is no reason why people complain about this class. Take it!
This course is not worth the struggle. The hour+ long lectures posted are extremely hard to watch (slow/boring) and the tests are timed to 1 hr for 50 questions. Our entire class emailed him multiple times addressing the difficulties with this and he did not care or change anything. Nothing is proctored, but the answers aren't easy to find.
If u take notes its easy, if u dont like geography stay away cuz requires sum prior knowledge but hes a great guy
The Canvas is usually clearly organized, but his online videos are very long
Professor Smith was a pretty cool and understanding guy. The one thing I absolutely hated though was his lectures were super boring. I always looked at my watch every ten minutes they were very long and boring. The readings were also very hard to understand. The test were alright but the pop quizzes were easy. Extra credit was very clutch
This class was lecture heavy, with hour long video lectures each week with multiple 10 page readings. The tests are very difficult but sometimes answers come straight from the lectures. Quizzes are okay. Extra credit is very helpful. Not a blow off class, so only take if you need this credit.
Whatever you do, do not take Geography 202. I am a business major, and my advisor recommended I take this class. This class is much harder than it needs to be. The videos are unnecessarily lengthy, and taking notes takes hours. The tests are too long, and even with open notes, hard to do well on. Just don't take this class.
Took this class for an easy A, and it was fairly that. Lectures could be interesting sometimes, but others they were just boring. He is very smart in the topic, and I'm sure he is a great guy. Just didn't like the course setup as much.
I really enjoyed this class! It taught me a lot about geography. An hour long video 2x per week, 1 quiz per week and 3 exams total. Make sure to take plenty of notes when watching the videos! He also has several extra credit opportunities that are fun to do and help your grade! This class is worth taking!
Cool guy, knows his stuff, dry humor. Doesn't take attendance, but pop quizzes are in class only. Your grade comes from the quizzes, 3 exams, and some slides. Lectures are boring, but the class doesn't require much time outside of them. Exams are online and open note, so it's easy. majority points on quiz is spelling your name. Would def recommend.
The class is tough if you do not watch the posted videos prior to going to lecture. Participation in this class is a huge portion of your grade and he takes attendance which also affects your grade. The exams were tough and the questions were very specific. If you don't watch the recorded videos you will fail the exams. Beware!
I thought it would be a nice online course to take and it is the worst class I've taken... I ended up having to Q drop this class. The videos and readings that the quizzes/tests are about are extremely long and even after taking notes on these, finding the answers to what is asked is almost impossible.
GEOG311 with professor smith is not an easy class. You must work hard to earn the grade that you want. Lectures were very monotone and uninteresting and participation/attendance matters ALOT for this class. Tests are very lengthy and the questions are unclear on what he is trying to ask. Id recommend you take other options if possible.
GEOG202 online with Dr. Smith was rather easy. Work consisted of open note quizzes and exams which were straightforward. Class is paced well, lectures were kind of boring but directly related to the tests so its easiest to actually take the time to pay attention.
I personally loved this class and the way it was structured. Just take really good notes on the lectures, they are long but you can speed them up or do it in multiple parts. I liked the lectures and the material covered, the quizzes are fine and exams are fine.
If you put any effort into this class you will get an A. The tests are very easy, and he curves each test by about 10 points. There are a max of 8 points added to your final average. There is literally no excuse to not get an A in the class. There are random quizzes so u must attend class, but if you don't go to class you wont do good anyways.
The lectures are hard to get through because they are so long even though they are fairly interesting. Exams and quizzes are open note but not super easy even with lecture notes. However, he curves some exam grades and the core curriculum assignments boost final grade. Its definitely doable, just wish the work was more manageable.
Lectures are kinda long and boring. Tests and quizzes are online and open note (no lockdown). There are three CCA assignments but they're fairly easy.
I ended the class with an 89 but he still gave me an A. He offers 6 extra points to your overall grade which is very helpful! Super easy points. I would use all the transcripts for quizzes/exams since they are open note. There was no homework just weekly quizzes(9) and exams (3). I would take him again tbh just use your notes.
This was my first class at A&M and it was great. Exams were online and attendance is not mandatory, but lectures are IMPORTANT. Missing a lecture is like missing a whole unit, the lectures are super interesting, but you have to listen because the slides are just pictures that he just talks off of. One of my favorite classes to date.
BEWARE, this teacher has MUCH different criteria for 200 lvl courses compared to 300. I took 202 and it was great, but 301 was hard honestly. Lectures are important still and the material is interesting. Exams are in person, scantron, and not open note unlike his 200 lvl courses. Super cool class, just a lot different than 202.
Professor Smith's GEOG202 is an online class with manageable work. The lectures can be dry, but staying engaged and utilizing tools like unstuck study for study prep makes it a doable course. The quizzes and exams are straightforward if you keep up with the material.
exams are very difficult even if you take notes and rewatch lectures. lectures are boring and long. would not take this again
It was a straightforward class, not many assignments to complete, with weekly quizzes over the material. There were only 3 tests, which were not the worst. Material can be a bit boring, but if you are looking for a somewhat easy credit, this is the class to take.
The online lectures were boring, at best, and overly heavy with very specific, niche content. The exams were difficult, and contained questions over the tiniest things mentioned in lectures or readings. There is extra credit that can add 6 points to your average. Overall, still wouldn't take if you're looking for an easy class to fulfill a credit.
Good Professor, enjoyed listening to his lectures although sometimes a little boring. Very well-spoken and educated, I learned a lot. Only 3 big exams, 10 pop quizzes, and 3 projects. Pretty easy class as long as you pay attention during the lectures, take lots of notes, and show up for class. Also study the maps for the exams, super important!
Thought this was gonna be a lot easier then it was. Nothing is proctored but still difficult questions on exams and quizzes. He offers 6 points of extra credit added to your final grade so an A is easily attainable if you do somewhat good on exams and quizzes. Just not the easiest elective.
Despite the bad reviews, I enjoyed taking Jonathan's course. I got an A easily but I did have to dedicate about 5 hours a week to take notes on long lecture videos and readings. Lectures were monotone but interesting to me and tests were 100% passable as long as you take decent notes. He also offers 6 points of extra credit which are easy to get.
