He's funny and very interested in the subject matter which makes it easy to listen to his lectures. Not the easiest class, but definitely fun.
Dr. Weaver is probably one of the best professors I've ever had. He's hilarious and knows how to keep his students awake. I recommend his class to anyone interested in the course.
There were iClicker quizzes every day, but he dropped six. Tests were easy if you'd done the reading and come to class. Fun lectures, informative and clear.
He is by far one of the best college professors I've ever had. Not only is he hilarious, he also is extremely helpful and very clear with his lectures.
Dr. Weaver is a great professor. He's super helpful and great at explaining everything. Not only is he funny but he keeps lectures interesting. I would highly recommend him.
I loved going to Dr. Weaver's class. He is an amazing professor and great at explaining everything. He also really cares about his students doing well. Lectures were very interesting and funny as well. He was such a great professor that I enrolled in another one of his classes just because he was teaching it.
Dr. Weaver is extremely knowledgeable and he wants his students to be as well when they leave. He will help you out if you ever need it; he's very supportive! Very funny and his lectures are thorough.
Need to go to class- can drop 6 days of clicker questions uses a clicker very nice love the class love teacher
He's a really nice, personal, and funny guy. He talks about his family a lot and connects them to lectures. There's clicker questions so you have to come to class, but there are TONS of opportunities to raise your grade. Tests were pretty tough, though. You need your textbook for readings that we don't go over in lecture.
He's very entertaining and funny, and most importantly good at explaining concepts.
Professor Weaver is amazing! He made this class enjoyable, and I learned more than I ever have from most classes. He uses many real-life experiences which makes learning fun and relatable. The exams are difficult, but if you study hard, you will pass! Homework consists of 3 exams (one of which is dropped), 3 short papers, and 1 cumulative final
While his lectures cover all of the material on the exams, the exams are difficult. I missed few lectures and the best grade I received on an exam was a 74%, and the average was usually around there. Luckily, there are three very easy papers to cushion the grade! Dr. Weaver is funny and weaves (no pun intended) in applicable personal stories!
I loved this class until I got my final grade back and I was 0.1% away from a 4.0. I had personally spoken with Prof. Weaver on multiple occasions and completed all the extra credit and went to the reviews, however he couldn't be bothered to give me 0.1 %.
Dr Weaver has really engaging lectures. There's clicker questions but he drops your six worst scores, and he posts the slides online before lecture (although sometimes he leaves stuff off so you have to come to lecture). The exams can be really hard, but it helps if you go through his review materials.
Dr. Weaver is one the best professors I have taken at MSU. He makes his lectures relatable and tries his hardest so his students understand the concept. As for the textbook, you're better of not buying it as it is used to read small sections in the chapter for about 3-4 questions on the test. I highly recommend him. Extra credit is also available.
Super fun and personable! Highly recommend! Best professor I've ever had
Weaver is the best! If you show up and work, he'll notice you. His lectures are incredibly helpful and he really works to make sure that the information is presented in a way that can be understood. Also he shows a ton of cute pictures of his wife and kids, which is always a bonus.
Dr. Weaver is one of the best professors I've had at MSU. He gives great lectures that keep you engaged in the material. You do have to show up to class as there are clicker questions that count for participation points. You are almost better off not buying the textbook because it is only used for about 2-3 pages per chapter for a few questions.
He is super nice and funny. Makes lectures fun and interactive.
I took this class because I had him in PSY 101 and he is so funny and a great professor. I found this class very challenging though, and wish I would have taken an easier ISS class for a GPA boost.
He is honestly the best!! He gives his students so much leniency and extra credit. You can tell that he cares about his job and his students. This class is super easy as long as you go to the lectures and study. Its super interesting and he is super funny. If you take the class chances are that youll love him!!
He cares about his students and their success, so the set up is clear and simple. This class requires a good amount of studying, memorizing, and practicing some applications; but there is no homework. Cramming is difficult, but possible. I highly recommend writing down things he says along side the powerpoint (already should be printed out).
He is the best Professor I had so far. He is really good at teaching and makes the class interesting. The class is very manageable. Grading is super fare and you will get a 4.0 if you do everything and do decent on the exams. it requires a lot of studying but not too much. I would print the notes out before class and then write notes on them!
Favorite professor at MSU! Class is not too difficult if you attend and listen at the lectures and study hard for the exams. A lot of content but is very do-able. He is very personable and relates the lectures to everyday life so you can understand it. Take this class with him if you have the chance!
Dr. Weaver is a great prof. I have had him for 2 classes now and I highly recommend. He is lecture heavy but they are not mandatory. He rarely if ever gives homework and the exams are pretty straight forward if you are someone who takes notes and pays somewhat of attention. Great dude. Highly recommend.
He is so nice and made the class really interesting. This was one of my favorite classes I have ever taken.
This professor does not answer questions. If you are a student who can just take notes and not ask questions to understand, you'll be fine. I need to ask questions to understand and he just ignores my arm up. Im a 4.0 student and not doing well at all. He doesn't typically teach social psych but this year he did and it wasn't a good experience.
A funny and cool professor. He gives clicker questions but drops a reasonable amount of them as well as other assignments. He doesn't answer questions in class, but will in email quite promptly. He makes class fun and provides extra credit!
Dr. Weaver is an amazing lecturer, but his tests are very hard. Your whole grade is based off of 7 pop quizzes and 3 exams, and as a bad test taker, this has been hard for me. But he's a great guy and I would recommend his courses if you don't struggle with tests.
One of my favorite professors, he is a great lecturer, so funny, and teaches a great and interesting class. There are pop quizzes which can be tricky, but the exams are easy if you study. Textbook is not necessary, the class notes are very comprehensive. No mandatory attendance. Fairly easy papers. Extra credit available. Amazing class and teacher!
Print out the lecture slides and take notes on those. Everything you need to know is in them except for the occasional thing he asks you to look up in the book which there were probably only 3 of when I took it. He makes the class enjoyable even though it's long.
I love this professor! He's the reason I changed my major to Neuroscience--because I wanted to take more psychology! His grading is a little tough, with exams being worth the majority of your grade. However, if you pay attention to lectures and write down clicker questions, you should do fine! I really enjoyed this professor.
AMAZING. He cares about his students a lot, his lectures are hilarious, and is down to the point on the content. There are clicker questions so don't plan on skipping. Exams are real-world situations, so make sure you spend your time applying the material. Practice exams are very useful, so use them. If my major req'd more PSY classes, I'd pick him
Very enthusiastic during class. Encourages discussion and questions by giving poker chips for extra credit. This is the first semester where he's given group projects so they might change, but mine were easy. They added up to 30% of the grade but were quick and painless
Professor Weaver is amazing! Really wants you to pass, works with you and gives plenty of room for extra credit. There was a group project this year that added about 25-30 points of extra credit (Easy A) but the exams were pretty tough. If you miss a lecture (there's attendance) then it's hard to understand the material. Take him if you get to!
By far the best professor I've ever had. He relates the class to his personal life to make the course material easy to understand. There are clicker quizzes everyday but half the time he will give you the answers to them and the other times the questions are common sense based on lecture. Also gives extra credit. Best PSY101 prof from many sources.
Best professor I have ever had. I cannot stress enough how amazing his lectures are, and he really cares to teach his students/ make sure they succeed. 1000% sure you should take him for any psych class he offers. A great professor but also a great human being in general.
Lectures are funny and nice but his exams are very heavy and hard. I failed the first exam because I did not know how his tests were the next exam I received a C+. And it takes a lot of studying and make sure you go to lecture cause he makes you answer quizzes through a iclicker. Very tough. Would not recommend if you are looking for an easy A.
Weaver is a great choice for any Psychology class. Lectures are clear and easy to follow and all lecture notes are posted after class. Uses iClicker for mini quiz questions during lecture, but allows 6 classes worth of misses for these quizzes. A respectable guy who wants you to pass. Only need to do 2/4 easy writing assignments. Trust me! Take him
Great professer! He definitely cares about his students and wants them to do their best. I bought the book but never used it, it was uggested to read it before exams. You are able to get extra credit from sona but none in class. Pay attention, take good notes and you will do fine.
I could have honestly picked so many more tags. I have never met a more caring professor. Not to mention he is an amazing lecturer who does everything possible to help you remember things from Lecture. I would recommend this professor a thousand times over.
Dr. Weaver is my favorite professor of my time @ MSU! He made lectures interesting with stories and jokes and I found him to be very respectable and likable. He was light on assignments and the exams determined most of my grade. The exams were not difficult. I plan on taking an ISS with him next year! Highly recommend!
Weaver is amazing! This is the second class I have taken with him and I would love to take more! He is incredibility intelligent and very respectful of people's differences and very open minded. He gives disclaimers ahead of time for potentially triggering material, which is always great especially given the nature of some of his lectures. 10/10
Mr. Weaver is very articulate and great at explaining concepts. He also makes the class very interesting because he has a good sense of humor, and he allows everyone to participate if they wish(does not make you participate in discussion if you don't want to, which is nice.)
- Two hours worth of HEAVY lecture (imposs to take notes and pay attention simultaneously) - Test are very hard, the study guides help (some repeat questions but not enough to help) - I hate this class - Sure he has extra credit, but there's a limit on how many poker chips you get and the other option is an essay or a 5 hour long study
I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Weaver. He exceeded my expectations for this course, which even led me to change my minor to gender studies! There are five pop quizzes throughout the semester. He gives thorough exam guides and they are pretty easy. I wish I could take this class again because of how informative it was!
Great professor. Really cares about his students, and wants you to succeed. He does give random quizzes, not too hard but you need to be in class & pay attention. Tests can be hard, but as long as you study and know all of the information in depth, youll be fine
I LOVE Dr. Weaver. He makes his lectures engaging and doesn't force students to attend; however, please note that there are pop quizzes. They aren't hard at all and are more of a reward for students who regularly attend. He's very kind, understanding, and an easy grader. He loves meeting students during office hours and is passionate about his job.
By far the best professor I have ever had. Passionate about what he teaches and is determined to help you pass the class. I enrolled in the class late and he was very helpful with making sure I was caught up with both notes and receiving a good grade. He's great at going in depth in lectures by giving many examples and keeps you engaged.
Dr. Weaver is one of the best professors I have ever had. He truly cares about his students and wants us to do well. He makes lectures engaging and interesting and provides great examples from his life. He makes sure everyone feels comfortable and welcome in his class. I highly recommend!
Weaver makes PSY101 way harder than it should be. Iclicker questions happen every lecture, at random, and are graded on accuracy alone. Exams are very hard, and the lectures are very long. He tries to make them entertaining but he is hard to pay attention to. He also likes it when the average on exams is around 70, so don't expect extra credit.
He was a great professor who obviously cares about his students and the material hes teaching.
Nice guy, but awful instructor. Gives out too many readings and information each week, which makes it very difficult to retain information. His tests are very hard and his study guides are useless. I Thought this class would be fun and interesting, but it is easily the hardest class I have this semester and its just a Gen Ed.
If you want an easy ISS, DONT take this class! Heavy workload and quizzes/discussion posts every week. Does not respect students in the slightest and if you email him with concerns he'll basically tell you to suck it up. One of the worst profs ive had a MSU.
This was the best class I've taken at MSU and Dr. Weaver is the best professor I've ever had. Nothing is worth too much, so if you bomb something its very easy to make up. Offers extra credit, but you probably won't need it. He was very well organized and understanding so going to online was unstressful. 100/10 if you can take this class do it.
Lots of work but interesting class.
Weaver is very genuine and engages his students well with appropriate lecture content. The quizzes and packback guidelines are straight forward. Extra credit questions on exams are about his personal life.
Material was repetative learned nothing new.
Very lecture heavy but Dr. Brown is obviously passionate about the work so it made me eager to learn. Very knowledgeable and understanding of trigger warnings throughout the course. He was also honest and showed that he truly cared that we succeeded in his course. Highly recommend.
Professor Weaver was an amazing teacher for PSY101! It was a very large class so I never interacted with him one on one, but I never had the need to either. His class is very organized and he is very well equipped for both online learning and in person. He includes drops for assignments and lectures are very engaging.
Dr. Weaver is one of the best professors I've ever had, if not the best. He's so kind, compassionate, and accommodating. He doesn't go into teaching with an "I'm doing my best" attitude, but a "I will be the best and more". Having professors who genuinely care about their profession and every individual is rare and I'm so thankful to have had him.
For ISS 305 he expects a lot in a short amount of time. It was statistics-heavy, he would go over at least 3-6 units in one lecture and expected us to do well. I have always been a good student and I can't keep up. Also, when I ask him questions he gives a rude and condescending answers. If you care about your GPA please do not take him.
Professor Weaver is a great lecturer and I can tell puts a lot of effort and care to his teachings. I would've absolutely loved to have him in a class that has greater difficulty, because it was hard to sit through a 2 hour lecture two days a week when much of the content is not very difficult. He is funny and entertaining though.
Lectures are boring, but he tries his best. Grade is based on top 5/6 quiz scores, top 2/3 essays, and top 3/4 tests. You can get by without attending class because most quiz and test answers are online, but information is still hard to find and study.
His policies seemed generous with a lot of drops. I only attended about 1/3rd of the lectures and got an A so even if you aren't good at this type of class, you could probably do well by putting in effort. From the lectures I attended, he seemed caring and often tried his best to teach the material. One of my favorite profs so far at MSU.
Super understandable lectures. very nice guy
This class was super easy expect for the exams that make up 72% of your final grade. He does not allow retakes for the exams, so if you're not a good test taker I wouldn't suggest this. Other than that this class allows you to drop a decent amount of assignments. No extra credit though.
He provides the book. His lectures were boring so I just followed the slideshow instead. Decent professor, however, I didnt care much for his style of teaching. 72% of our grade was based on exams.
Nice guy who really cares. You will get what you put into this course. For being a two hour course it can drag on a little bit, but you do not have to do much after class so it makes up for it.
Honestly, the nicest prof I've met at MSU. His class is chill and is absolutely world-class in lecturing.
Honestly the material was a lot but the exams are really easy if you just watch the lectures (it's open notes), I'm taking him again for PSY 235 he really knows how to teach.
He was so nice, and made learning fun. he tries his best to make sure you truly understand the material and is genuinely a nice guy all together. he understands we are humans trying to just be a student and do our best and wants that for us and does his best to do good for his students
Professor Weaver kept lectures very engaging and genuinely cares about his students. If you attend the lectures, the class will be pretty easy. Quizzes are open for a long time with unlimited attempts, and he lets you drop a quiz, an exam, and an assignment. He is super clear about expectations and fair in his grading. Highly recommend!
Dr. Weaver is a fantastic professor who genuinely cares for all of his students. I've taken two of his courses (PSY 339 and PSY 235). This man knows his stuff! He always updates his lectures to current research and provides interesting & optional readings to supplement his PowerPoints. I'm not sure if he's up for/wants tenure, but he deserves it!
By far one of my favorite professors at MSU, Ive taken two classes of his and he is awesome. His class and tests are mostly lecture content, so attendance is key and good notes. Overall amazing, he is easy to follow and explains topics well.
I took this class as an elective. It was the hardest class I took and lowered my GPA. Do NOT take this class if you don't have to !!!!
Greatest professor ever. I had him for PSY 101 and 235, 235 was exceptionally great. His lectures are great because he doesn't just read off of the slides and he tells funny stories. He's just a great, funny, easy-going guy. He's available to help and wants everyone to succeed. He incorporates drops and has a very fair grading system.
I took it online and I thought it was alright. There was a discussion post and a quiz every week so not too much work, exams were about every 4 weeks with a discussion. It is pretty lecture heavy with 13-14 parts each week but they are sort of interesting, easy to stop watching after a while. I got a 3.5, he does not round or have much extra credit
I took this class as an elective course. Dr. Weaver shows great interest in what he teaches and is willing to help students in and out of class. The only difficulty I had with the course was the exams, which were more difficult than the quizzes and assignments. Other than that, this was an enjoyable course with a great professor!
With two weeks left, decided to stop curving grades. "After last exam, the mode and mean were almost the same--so i'M gOnNa StOp CuRvInG". If anyone taking a class under this guy thinks that there's gonna be a curve no matter what this guy promises, look elsewhere. Especially when all we have are 3 exams and 6 quizzes. Don't play with my GPA.
There are no attendance points, BUT if you skip class and miss out on the lecture materials, most people will find it VERY difficult to learn it on their own. Exams are 75% of your grade, assignments 25%. The class is very application-heavy, D2L materials won't make much sense if you don't go to class and you WILL be confused on the exams if so.
Exams make up a lot of the grade, and the exams are difficult. The good thing is he lets you drop your lowest exam score which is helpful. There isn't much to be graded on, so exams matter A LOT which can be super stress-inducing. Going to lectures is crucial.
Nice professor but the lectures were so hard to pay attention to. The exams are very application-heavy and worded awful. It is so stressful because the exams are 75% of our grade and the other 25% are quizzes that are online and we can take as many times as we want which is nice but overall doesn't boost our grade enough.
Lectures are extremely boring and slow, the only thing that your grade depends on are 6 quizzes and exams which are 75% of the grade. His exams are way more difficult than led on. You'll have hundreds of very specific terms to memorize. It's hard to take notes in his class and pay attention especially if its a nearing two hour class.
For this being an university required class, this class was extremely difficult. There is no reason for a class like this should be this hard. DO NOT by any means take this class. This class killed my grades and my gpa so save yourself the tears and take another 300 level ISS.
Would recommend finding another ISS class. Attendance isn't required but if you miss lectures, you're setting yourself up to fail. 75% of your grades are the exams which are very lengthy and poorly worded. The material is heavily application-based and is not easy.
This was unnecessarily difficult for an ISS. Weaver often talked about absurd examples that had little to nothing to do with the content. Also, the only grades were exams and quizzes.
By far the worst experience I've had with any teacher at msu. This is the second time I've had Dr.Weaver and the moto i've labelled him with is "busy work is the best work." Not only did ISS305 become the most uninteresting, tedious, wearisome class on my schedule. But having a teacher who genuinely wants to see his students fail is appalling.
Lectures are long and boring, he does not give good analogies and often drones on. Learning the material yourself and in a way that you understand best is a better use of your time. Tests are multiple choice and he often gets rid of a few questions because they weren't "good questions". Tests are hard and packback assignments are unnecessary
Dr. Weaver is great for PSY 101. His lectures are long but engaging. It's not hard to get a 4.0 on every exam if you show up to class and actually participate and do the quizzes. Overall, participation matters a lot in this course.
PSY101 is VERY lecture heavy and can drag on, but I really like Dr. Weaver as a person. This class isn't extremely difficult if you attend every lecture and study. You have to do well on the exams as they make up most of the grade, so don't expect an easy A. He's clear with his grading, and the practice quizzes/Packbacks are easy.
You don't technically have to go to class, but the lectures are very helpful if you want to do well on exams. Dr. Weaver gives good examples, explains stuff well, and cares about his students. The class is pretty exam heavy, but he does offer a drop. Homework is very easy and straightforward.
Dr. Weaver was a nice guy and was super funny, but the grades for PSY 101 is very much exam heavy (not his fault, but just a warning). Also, if you have a family death right before an exam, don't expect him to be flexible and considerate - he won't give you any extensions until your university grief absence processes, which takes a few days.
This guy is a karen, I tried to reschedule my exam multiple times because I was really sick, and bro kept saying I need a doctors note, like buddy you want me to send a video of me coughing my lungs out, What else am I supposed to do? I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS GUY !
Overall, Dr. Weaver is a good professor. His lectures were long, and you take notes the whole time, but it is an intro course, so it makes sense. The exams are worth 80% of your grade, which is really annoying. I got 100 in every other category plus extra credit and still got a 3.5, so if you want a 4, study a lot and go to class every day.
prof weaver is a very tough grader with discussion posts , he tests very heavy. its good to go to class but if ur a bad test taker dont take this class with him he grades heavy on exams. overall hes okay i wouldnt take this class with him again.
Do not take this class. Worst mistake of my college career. I'm sure he's a great guy and all but as a teacher, especially of this class, I don't know why anyone would take this class. 78% of the final grade is the exams. It is honestly horrible. In essence, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
dont take any class with him. i took iss and currently taking psyc he makes ur life so hard especially with exams. terrible. exams way too hard for nothing.
terrible terrible teacher. very tough grader. enjoyed the class hated the way he graded our discs and exams. makes it so hard
Professor Weaver does not care about his students or their success. This class is only graded by exam and quizzes, exams are worth 78% of our grade and are each 60 questions, they're all only about 3 weeks apart from each other. His lectures do not help whatsoever, and he has a very poor attitude towards his students. I do not suggest his courses!!
Dr. Weaver lectures is amazing. However, you really need to put in a lot of effort to success in this class. Exams is pretty much 80% of your grade, and his exams are really hard. The quizzes may help but exams are much harder than that. I suggest to seek help from both the professor and the TAs office hour if you are struggling.
Good Prof! Tests will be the largest factor to your grade. Score on final can replace lowest midterm. Only assignments for this class are at-home quizzes, with unlimited tries until each midterm, however because of such, weighted very little. Professor teaches via slideshow- make sure you understand how to apply terms to situations & vice versa!
Dr. Weaver's lectures can be long, but engaging if you stay focused. The exams are heavily weighted, so studying hard is crucial. unstuck study and other study tools like ChatGPT really helped me prep effectively.
I did not realize I signed up for a course called "Dr. Weaver's Political Views and Personal Opinions". Unfortunately his dislike for the textbook and disregard for the course content made this a very unenjoyable class. If you do not read the 10 additional readings per lecture he will not be going over it in class, but they will be tested on.
Dr. Weaver wasn't an understanding professor. He is a knowledgeable professor and lectures ok. Though, there's a ton of readings and lots of reoccurring assignments that are unnecessary & busywork even though he claims it isn't. People tried reaching out to him for clarification and he doesn't explain things well. He also isn't very accommodating.
Dr.Weaver is down-to-earth and genuinely wants students to succeed. Each week there is a textbook reading and 2-4 research articles posted to D2L. The exams are application-heavy so doing the D2L readings is very helpful. Attendance is not mandatory BUT he gives exam hints in class for those who show up. If you put in the effort, you will do well.
