Very helpful, always helps with homeward before every class, tests only what he thought and his final exam review is very clear. Jon in very funny and an interesting teacher, I'd definitely take his following course if that would be required. Homework is graded but he helps with it online, in person and before class so no prob with that. Take him.
By far one of the most engaging professors I've ever had. I actually WANTED to get up for my 4 hour Saturday morning Stats class. He incorporated a sense of humor into his teachings and often called himself a nerd for his love of video games, comic books, etc. He made statistics something easy for me to grasp and understand.
He is a great teacher, He shows and demonstrates his math steps in a way that the entire class can understand. He is new to PCC and Im glad I had him as a teacher. Math was a difficult subject for me but he made it easy to understand. I got an A in his class.I recommend others to give his class a try Im kind of sad he isnt teaching Mth 95 next term
He was a great teacher, He stayed after class & provided office hours that were not typical & made appointments for his students. Honestly as long as you put in the effort He will help you. I encourage everybody to take any math classes with Him if possible, you'll enjoy it & math. He will be there for every problem through the course if needed.
One of the best instructors that I've had at P.C.C. Cares about all of his students and makes sure that everyone understands the material.
Jonathan, is a awsome teacher. He went beyond the call of duty to ensure that all his student's understand the concepts. On his own time he would join us at our study groups, and work through the problem's at a slower pace. He is a teacher who love's to teach, and it shows. I am taking him again, for 244.
Jonathan, Is the best Math teacher at PCC. I have a real hard time with math, and understanding the concepts. Jonathan is the first Math teacher who took time to come to to our study groups to make sure we understood the concepts. I would love to say I got an A, but I did make it through to go on to 244, and I am taking him for that class a
An amazing individual. Still very clear with the substance. If you have the opportunity I would suggest taking any math class with him. Even if you do not like it, you will by the end of the class. He is very helpful and is very determined to make sure you understand.
Excellent teacher! He works hard and enthusiastically. Although statistics is not easy to comprehensive, he makes it fun and easy to understand. I enjoy his class. I recommend to take his class. He is the best.
This guy is really good at teaching stats and wow he loves stats and it shows while he teaches.
Very helpful and caring teacher. He knows stats very well, and really wants his students do well. He has time for his students, and can explain very well, that if you work you will do well. Kind and charismatic teacher that all students want.
Great teacher! Very helpful! He always made himself available to his students and he was very quick to respond in the discussion board and with emails. I took his Saturday class and I didn't regret it. He made it interesting and fun! I definitely recommend this teacher!
Most amazing, caring, and kind teacher! Has time to explain what you don't understand, and really care about your learning. Very quick to respond, and is positive and enthusiastic. Cristal clear expectation, and you will do well if you do what he tells you to do, you will not get lost. He kows math very well.Highly recommended.Simply great teacher!
Great teacher, extremely helpful and clear. He really helped me understand the material. I barely put any effort into this class and got an A because Jon is a great teacher. He's also really good looking and funny! I highly recommend him.
Mr. Wherry is super helpful and very approachable. He's always been very welcoming and willing to help students even outside of his office hours. I would definitily take a class of his again. But, all of that being said, the WebWorks homework doesn't always match up well to what we do in class.
please save your self the headach with this guy, I will be modest and wont say anything except dont take this guy when it comes to Calculus!word to the wise.
An Outstanding instructor. The most important thing that helped me get a good grade in the class was his ability simplify terms and concepts that were heavy in detail. He did a good job of connecting all the concepts of trig at the end of the term before the final.
I hate math with a passion. With that out of the way, he is an ok lecturer. He's kind of boring when he explains the topic, but once in a while he will make a joke that throws you off and makes the lessons better. no need for the textbook. if you get math then you're fine. If not then you really need to talk to him. he will help you!
He is thorough in explaining how the concept works in classes! Never better understood or appreciated math in my life more than I do after his class!
He is very articulate in his teaching methods. He breaks down problems and explains step-by-step how problems are solved. He provides various methods to solving same problems so you can pick whatever method works best for you. He makes math so easy and fun to do. Mr. Wherry is the best teacher ever!!! You won't regret taking his class. Promise.
Really great teacher. A little overwhelming at first, he lectures the entire class. But he does so in a way that if you take notes and do the calculations with him you WILL learn how to do it. Also, he allows a note card for all exams, which make them not hard. The project sounds really hard at first, but if you pick a fun question you'll have fun.
The class is pretty fast paced and it was a little overwhelming at first but his lectures are very comprehensive and easy to understand. He is very responsive online and makes himself available outside of class if you ever need help. He also provides the syllabus and assignments for the term before the class begins. I highly recommend his class.
Fantastic teacher! If it were not for his incredible clarity and excellent teaching methods I would have been completely lost. I would highly recommend taking him for both statistics courses offered at PCC. You will walk away from these classes with, at the very least, a decent grasp and workable knowledge of the material covered.
Good class. quizzes every tuesday. Easy to follow the examples that are providedin class, but it can get overwhelming at first. Just do your homework on time and you'll do well on the quiz. Other than that, there is a project that is due at the end of the term.
I cannot say this enough... AMAZING professor. He's clear and extremely helpful. He's also quite witty and keeps math entertaining to say the least. At times I found his lecture pace a little on the slow side, but if you struggle at all with math you will greatly benefit from his class. Highly recommended!
Cannot recommend Jonathan enough. He actually makes Stats fun and shows you how it applies to daily life. Challenging but if you work hard, show up and take notes, you can get a good grade. Most importantly, he's great at answering questions that benefit the whole class, then telling people to meet him after class so no time is wasted.
INCREDIBLE instructor! I somewhat enjoyed algebra, but was very nervous about taking it after ten years away from high school. He makes it easy to understand and a pleasure to put effort in. Uses real life examples to capture interest and makes himself available for questions. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
He's the nickle and dime sort of grader. Also, he prefers online homework, if you prefer pen and paper (and not paying for online passes w/ used textbooks) then this is going to become a problem. One point off every assignment here and there will add up, and you will be feeling the pressure come finals.
AMAZING teacher! Don't miss a single class, pay attention, and you will get a good grade. He's very fair and funny. He allows the option of doing homework online or out of the book - I would do online. I don't particularly like math but I loved this class. I highly recommend John!!
He is the best statistics teacher that PCC could ever ask for. He gives interesting and clear examples during class. Go to class and take notes. He wants you to succeed in his classes. He will help you understand if you ask him a question. I hope PCC hires him as a full-time math instructor because he is amazing.
Great instructor. Bought the text book on eBay for $2.00. You can not make up exams so don't be sick or go on vacation to Hawaii like I did. I hate math and fractions with a passion but still managed to get an A. His classes are packed for a reason, he is a good teacher. You will need to register for his classes early if you want to get in.
Jonathan is an awesome professor. He makes math very interesting and easy to understand and puts great thought and consideration into his students needs. He allows you to have a note card for each exam(three total) and gives quizzes every Tue.(10 total). One project due at the end of the course, not overly difficult though. Overall GREAT class.
He's really nice and helpful. He's really into math (and cats) and expresses that a lot. He's funny and keeps you interested and really tries with the super boring stuff, but there are just some things that can't be entertaining no matter how hard you try. Your allowed a 3x5 notecard on all tests and the final. He also spells out the final for you!
Jon's lessons are clear and thorough. He assigns weekly take home labs, which are relevant to the weeks lessons. I would recommend Jon for 251 and 252.
Wherry is an AMAZING teacher. He makes things so easy to understand and is always willing to help. The pace of the class was perfect, not super fast, but no one was falling asleep. Stats isn't an easy subject, but taking it from him I felt like I fully understood the concepts. A+++
Best professor at PCC period! Show up, take good notes, do homework, practice all study guides questions for the 3 exams, and you will get an A with a little hard work. REGISTER FOR HIS CLASSES THE VERY SECOND YOU ARE ABLE TO, HIS CLASSES ALWAYS FILL UP!!!
MR WHERRY IS THE BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!THE COURSE CAN BE DIFFICULT BUT HE IS GREAT AT EXPLAINING THE MATERIAL AND HE MAKES IT EASY TO UNDERSTAND. IT IS NOT AN "EASY A CLASS" BUT IF YOU SHOW UP TO CLASS, TAKE NOTES, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY DO YOUR HOMEWORK YOU WILL PASS.
Wherry is a good person, but he needs to gain more skills to teach higher level math classes. The course was super fast and some concepts were unclear.
Mr. Wherry knows what he is talking about and definitely wants you to succeed. Willing to help any time of day through message board and available for office hours as well. A tough class for sure, show up, do the work, and take impeccable notes and you'll pass. 4 exams w 1 take home exam, 1 term paper, 6 quizes with the lowest score dropped.
Jon was super helpful, great instructor at PCC, even if this class is new, he is willing to make sure you knew the material to pass this class. He is a hard grader when he needs to, but he does it because he wants and knows you can do better!
After taking 234 and 244, here's my analysis: average homework load; very fast response time to emailsposts; his lectures are nearly to-the-minute and perfectly clear; he connects each new topic to the previous topic, so there's no awkward breaks in the material; you MUST attend class, take notes, do hw. Best math instructor I've had hands down!
Mr. Wherry was definitely a great teacher that really help me to transition back to school after 3 years break and working full time. It was kind of a fast class but it was summer so kind expected. Totally recommended. Make sure to go to his office hours that sometimes he makes them a group study.
Mr. Wherry is the best statistics professor. I know students from other universities who go to PCC just to take math with him. Stats is not an easy subject (for me at least) but he does a great job at explaining everything. Attend class, take notes, do the homework and you should pass.
No textbook needed. Great professor. Very structured and organized. 3 exams, term project, 6 quizzes, and a final. Lowest exam dropped. Moderate homework. Exams are hard. Not uncommon for the entire class to average only 69% on exams. I had to drop a pervious online stats1 class. Managed to barely get an A in this class.
Mr. Wherry was very helpful with homework and test preparation. I took MTH 244 with him in summer. It was supposed to be hard because summer is intensive. But his lectures and expectations were clear and easy to understand. He also tried to come up with a fun project to do in class every time to help understand the materials learned that day.
Jon is the best math teacher I have ever had in the course of my entire life of education. He is strait forward, authentic, and clear in what he expects. If you want to learn and pass your math requirements, and are serious about it and willing to do the work I highly recommend Mr. Wherry.
Jon is a fantastic math teacher! He's passionate and enjoys teaching, which is great, as statistics can be quite a tough subject. He would often make fun short group projects to help understand the material better. We never used the textbook, but you still need the online code, so you'll have to buy one anyway. I highly recommend his class!
He really cares about you and your grade. I was having trouble in the class, and he made sure i was getting the help I needed. He also does a lot of examples of the problems. the homework can be done on paper or online, and he goes over any homework questions. The class has 3 tests, and that is basically what your grade depends on.
Best math teacher I have ever had, if you have the option choose him over any other math teacher. He is funny, but knows how to teach well, is always willing to meet with you outside of class to help you with what you need. Gives a fair amount of homework, and grades fairly.
He is serious about Math, but he is funny, understanding and swears sometimes (down-to-earth). He encourages questions, is extremely helpful and available outside class. If you miss a class its difficult to understand the lecture notes he prints for the section, as he explains things much more simple than the book.
Professor Wherry is an excellent instructor! If you have a chance to take one of his courses, do yourself the favor and sign up. Jon is easily accessible, easy to talk to, and makes tough subjects easy to learn.
He was great, direct and to the point. Lectures were fun and covered material well.
Not a bad teacher, grading can be a little rough even If you get most the problem right. He has homework that he gives out and the book used in class is free to download. The homework will have problems that are written graded and not graded but even the not graded problems will be counted towards your grade. Overall he has a good teaching method.
TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN! Best teacher I have had at PCC!
Jon is the best math teacher that I've had at PCC. Pay attention in class and actually do the examples he puts on the board and the homework and tests will be easy. I don't think I studied once for the exams and I got a high A on all of them. He is just really good at explaining things in a simple way.
He has a great sense of humor and makes learning Statistics ACTUALLY fun! Just pay attention, do your homework and it will be easy! He likes when people actually engage in class when he asks questions. And he lets us post questions on the D2L Discussion board and will help you with the problem completely!
Mr. Wherry is the best professor I ever had at PCC in my 2 years of college. He is funny, kind, and always available to help with homework or other questions and I have no regrets taking him for Stats 1. If you must take Stats 1 go with this instructor. Attendance is crucial as there are no online videos. Weekly homework is given.
Professor Wherry is an excellent teacher. I am so glad I read the reviews on here and took his class. He explains all the notes up on the board. You will have homework due every class, but this is college, get used to it. You will have a quiz every week, it is not a surprise. He is a very fair grader. Put the work into the class. Worth it.
Wherry is an awesome teacher. I have a really hard time with math so having him helped. I had a B the entire term until the midterm where after getting a 96% on the practice exam i ended up getting a 56% on he actual test. Final is next week and i need a C to pass the course.
This is the second math class I have taken from Wherry. He is really dedicated to teaching and gave many opportunities to meet, ask questions, or work with students outside of class. He is so infinitely patient that I could not almost believe it. He is so knowledgeable and is able to approach topics from many different angles. Made me enjoy math!
Mr. Wherry is awesome. He is the best math teacher I have. His lecture is so clear and easy to understand. He offers outside class hours to help students master the material three times a week. He responses questions we post on D2L immediately. He put a lot of efforts to support students to succeed. He makes Math 234 easy and fun. Thank you!!
I really liked this professor. He was clear in his grading criteria and lectures. You have to show up to class especially if you are taking this course during the summer but he makes it fun and keeps it interesting. He is organized and efficient. He puts all of the lessons into context and helps you to understand material and not just memorize.
He is awesome. He makes concept easily understanding. His wonderful lecture really help me. He answers our homework questions as fast as he can on D2L. I only study his notes and do all homework he assigned. I got A+. He really loves his work and cares about his students. His class is so fun and you will use what you learned in real life.
He really has a talent for teaching. He makes statistics interesting and accessible. He is knowledgeable. Hes extremely patient. Hes organized. He's great at explaining. Hes accessible. Hes invested in making sure his students actually learn the material. He's fair. Hes funny. Everything an instructor and a class should be. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
This guy is great. Makes sure to cover everything that's going to be on the hmw. Funny, has a talent for teaching, makes things easy, clear grading criteria. Loves cats! You can buy the book or do it on MyMathLab. Every day we did a cool little experiment. You get a sticker on your test if you're either the top or second to top score. Take him!
Disclaimer: never been A student; I have an A now. Jon is truly amazing. He cares deeply and pays close attention to ALL students. HW is short yet is enough to fully understand stats. TAKE THIS CLASS. If you show up, pay attention and do the HW, you will get an A. He is just that good. I will actually miss having him next term; Jon is good people.
Wherry is a stats genius. To give some perspective I went through 3 stats tutors in high school and still got a D. In Wherrys class my grade never dropped below an A. He explains things very clearly so that all the formulas are easily understood so that even if you cant rememver the exact formula you can still replicate it on a test. GREAT PROF!
Professor Wherry breaks down topics to make them understandable while having the lessons be interesting. He is always kind to everyone and is open to any questions. One of the main things I like about his course is that he provides very easy to follow lecture notes. Be sure to show up to class so you can fill in the notes. Very reasonable HW load.
Wherry is a clear, understanding, funny, and hard-working teacher who will meet you halfway. After a low first exam, he helped me recover with non-judgemental advice on test anxiety and clear instructions on how to improve my scores. This is the first time I feel confident in statistics and I'm getting A's! He's the best, I highly recommend him.
Fantastic teacher! Unfortunately hes not teaching 244 next term otherwise I would for sure take him again! Super fast responder and grader. He is an amazing teacher and makes it very easy to learn the material. He is very kind and accessible. Class is flipped so we take notes from a prerecorded lecture at home and go over problems in class.
Took this class remotely due to COVID. All I can say is... YOU WANT JON AS YOUR TEACHER.
Jonathan Wherry is an excellent instructor. He makes math easy to understand and handle. He is always happy and ready to help. He is very patient. He always gives feedback quickly with very clear and systematic explanations. What he teaches has exceeded my expectations. I strongly recommend someone who want to take math choose Jon's class.
Stats is a very challenging subject for me but Prof Wherry is the greatest. He really breaks things down and uses examples anyone can understand. The homework is light and feedback is great. He is flexible and caring and just genuinely there to help everyone pass his class. It's hard to find a teacher like him.
RUN the other way!! Only a select few showed up for the final... THE REST DROPPED THE CLASS. Says a lot abt an instructor. Jonathan has no concept of remote teaching and will harass you abt time spent in D2L that is not accurate. Do urself a favor and protect your mental health.
Wherry definitely has great reviews, however, be aware that his teaching style may not be for you. His recorded lecture video are slow and a pain to get through. He goes over homework the next class, but no answer key. Test reviews do NOT help the exam, but they help the quizzes. He's a very nice guy, but learning styles vary. Don't be fooled.
Such an amazing professor! I hadn't taken stats in 7 years, and I was nervous to take stats 2. I struggled, but he was willing to help, and I worked my ass off and got a B-! Lots of hw, but it really helps you learn the material. I'd recommend his class because he cares about the success of his students.
I took Math 243 in person, and it was a really good experience! Mr. Wherry is quick to respond to emails and wants students to pass. You're allowed a 3 by 5 card for exams and finals, and there are also many opportunities to earn extra credit, so make sure to do that!
I couldn't have asked for a better professor for stats. I came in with zero knowledge of this topic, and at the end felt prepared for the final exam. A lot of studying, but professor Wherry made you feel like this class was a team effort between you and him.He was always there to give feedback and respond timely to emails. He was very supportive!
I took MTH 243 with Prof Wherry and he is one of the best profs I've had. He is really caring and teaching carefully, quizzes are not too hard if you are willing to study
I took him spring term 23 and he was very nice and caring! He does have a lot of HW but that's pretty much the only downside.
Jon is nice but the lectures are painfully slow and I feel like he treats his students like he's teaching a 5 year old. Its honestly kind of degrading. He has online lectures and then goes over the same material in class. This style might be good for some people but for me it was painfully slow and boring.
best math teacher I ever had period! made me feel like it was possible to pass his class. I don't leave reviews but I had to because he actually cares if you make an effort. I have struggled with math all throughout college and this class made me feel comfortable with learning. Make an effort, do the work (which isn't a lot IMO) and you'll do great
He is INCREDIBLE! Best teacher I've ever had. I've always struggled with math and he would meet with me outside of class. Graded assignments fats, my final was graded overnight. Responds to emails quickly, and his lectures are good. I cannot recommend him enough. If you can find a spot in his class, take it, you won't regret it.
While the class I am taking with Jonathan is supplemental, he has been amazing. He goes out of his way to help you in any way he can. He is clearly a passionate instructor who wants to see the people he teaches succeed.
Was very flexible with due dates. Every week you have a quiz (unlimited attempts), lecture (1-2 hrs), and worksheet to complete. Exam 1 isn't proctored but the other 2 are and you can have a flashcard during the exam with formulas. He is super nice and understanding, take his class if you like cats :)
Mr.Wherry was an amazing teacher, he gives detailed feedback and is very helpful whenever you need it. He really cares about his students and their success and wants to support your learning anyway he can If you struggle with online courses the long zoom recordings may not be for you, but regardless he's a great teacher online or in-person.
His class is very fair and caring. If you put the time in, you will get an A. The class is the right amount of challenging without being frustrating. Exams are very fair.
Really caring professor. Participation matters and every point with homework counts. Lots of notetaking during lectures. As long as you put in effort you will do good in this class
Absolutely loved taking MTH244 with Prof. Wherry. His online lectures are very applicable to the homework and tests and he displays the information in a very relatable and digestible way. Very accessible outside of class to help you understand whatever you're missing. Very accommodating of different learning styles. 10/10!
Tremendously helpful teacher. He will give you a lot of time with help if you ask for it. He's good with examples and he likes it when we ask questions. He is motivational and inspirational. He clearly loves math and likes teaching. Will take him again if I can.
Jon is quick to respond to questions and is very happy to help! He clearly cares about his students' success and is a friendly, warm person.
Jon was fantastic! His lectures were extremely detailed and organized, and homework assignments were quite fun! Workload was not very heavy. Great feedback on assignments/quizzes. Go to his office hours if you ever have questions- he is more than happy to help. I am not good at math but I understood the material so well. He clearly cares a lot.
He is the best teacher ever in math. You should take it no matter what.
Jon is genuinely one of the best math teachers that I have ever had. He takes things slow, loves to answer questions and makes it easy to learn. He really wants every student to succeed and will accommodate your needs. If you put in the work (especially with the extra credit assignments), it is impossible to fail. 10/10.
I can't even think of a good enough compliment for this professor- very caring, quick to respond to emails, accessible outside of class, lectures are at a good pace. Would definitely recommend. Fair warning, the midterm and final exam combined account for 50% of your grade for the class.
