if you want an easy A, pick his class! I learned most of the material in third grade...bad part: sooo easy, its boring. He respects his students
he is such a great guy. the class is extrememly easy, but he is always there for extra help and always answers your emails. i would DEF recommend him!!
Sweetest man ever, he can take a joke in class. We watched movies, there was extra credit, I suggest if you hate math take this class it will change your mind. The work wasn't to hard but I wouldn't say it was easy and the final was a lot of fun. Go to class because he gets upset when attendance is low.
Had for Calc..he knew exactly what he was doing but had a hard time explaining it and would trip himself up all the time. Good during office hours but horrible in class. His exams are honestly a joke..you have a better shot of passing by just picking random numbers than actually doing the problems. DO NOT TAKE FOR CALC
Cutest professor ever! He makes tons of cute jokes in class and is very dorky, but in a sweet way. He explains everything well and is very understanding. Gotta admit I had a crush. Also, kinda looks like Rivers Cuomo from Weezer.
Great teacher, makes math fun (and easy). Just do the minimal work he assigns you and you will be fine
He is very patient and explains very thoroughly. Excellent professor and really nice person =) (and very good looking too!!)
Hands down best professor I have ever had. I hated math with a passion until I took him to fulfill my gened, but he rocks! Young, FUNNY, down to earth. Always willing to help. 2 easy 5 question exams. 4 two question quizes. They are so easy, HE WANTS YOU TO PASS. Very knowledgeable and extremely fair. HIGH RECOMMENDED. You wont walk out unsatisfied
He is VERY helpful! He wants you to learn and will go extra mile to help you to do that. He presents material in interesting way and gives you just enough details to teach you but not to confuse in "hard" topics. Try to do homeworks on your own - helps on exams(which are very reasonable!-study notes). I would recommend him to everybody!
Best math professor on this campus!! I HATE math but I loved this class. He is so patient and really cares about his students. He will go over a topic again and again until it is needed. 3 short Journals, 2 tests, 4 quizzes but they are easy because he reviews everything. Take him if you need a teacher who understands math is not for everyone.
This guy is the greatest math professor I have ever taken. Makes math fun again, especially for non-majors and really cares about student progress. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
This professor really cares about his students! Reviews before every test and quiz, there is no calculations required for this course only algorithems and different systems. Take him if you have the chance!
Great professor. It is refreshing to have a professor who has so much passion for the subject he is teaching. Homework assignments were very difficult but prepared you well for tests. He is very easy to talk to and always willing to help and answer questions. Definitely take him if you can!
Nothing but good things to say about Jon. He takes his time in explaining anything and everything. He answers all questions you ask him. His exams are not difficult (if you can do the homework, you can do the exams). You have to do at least 2 HWs and 2 quizes (they are easier than the HW). He moved slowly and we only got through 3 chapters (not 7)
This professor always says "yup yup". Those are his favorite words to say..he willa always ask the class if it's alright to abbreviate or to do something on the board..if you can write at a speed of 100 words per minute, then you are good to go for this class! He also repeats his clothing. It's quiet unsanitary.
Great professor. I recommend taking for both calc 1 and 2 if possible b/c other teachers may not completely prepare yu for his class. Webassign once a week, 2 tests and a final. First test is hard so study hard!
All my thumbs up
Great Professor. Probably one of the best in the math department. Very humble and down to earth. He has an open door policy and tries to make himself available to students whenever he can.He explains things with great clarity. Whatever he teaches, I will take it.
GREAT professor. I had some difficulty with the homework - his homeworks are ALWAYS harder than the exams (which I had no problem with). He is extremely helpful and down to earth and funny. He makes you WANT to go to class. He makes jokes and has weird names for certain math terms and it's adorable! Jon is the best professor EVER!!!!
Be prepared to do no math in his classes. As long as you memorize the definitions, you will ace the test. With that said, he is helpful to a certain point. His grading could be bias at times but he is available if you need him. Overall, nice guy but I want to learn and not just memorize it for the test.
Great lecturer. Great choice of topics for an introductory graph theory class. Quite approachable outside of class. A student couldn't ask for much more.
Be prepared to memorize definitions and expressions because if you don't you will loose points and fail.Biased grader.Helpful up to a point.Don't question your grade, he will find ways to lower your next grade. His questions on HW and exams are ambiguous and full of red herrings. His incessant yup yup will drive you crazy! Choose wisely!
Good professor. Harsh grader, lots of memorization. Breezes through the material so pay attention. Listen rather than copy what he writes. Textbook is not mandatory, but he puts practice problems that help A LOT. Uses Webassign for hw, 5 short quizzes, 2 tests, and a final. Homework every week. helpful 1 on 1, but not so great in front of class.
Great professor. Tries to make math as fun as possible. Fairly funny. Web assign homework every week and was probably the hardest part of the class. If you get that, the tests are easy. Throws in a lot of "culture experiences" during class. As long as you memorize the formulas and show work on tests, he'll grade fairly.
Awesome professor and one of the best math teachers at MSU. He is always available for office hours and for extra help and wants to see you pass instead of fail. Use the review sessions wisely, do the WebAssigns, and you'll have no problem passing.
you have to teach yourself everything cause he doesn't and if you ask a question he may attempt to answer it but never quite does.
This couse is easy .. But he make it very hard with his hardest test in the world and his grades ... He is not fair in grading at all ... Avoid him
Avoid him
Simply .... avoid him
his tests soooooo hard . it is hard to pass his test.
DO NOT TAKE!!!! He is a very nice person but is not a teacher. He has a "I know it so you should already know it too" mentality. He is a very tough grader and does not curve at all. He will fail people so avoid if possible.
Terrible. Do not take him. He has a "I know it already so you should know it too" mentality. He is not a teacher. Really tough grader and is not afraid to fail students. Do not take.
Excellent class. If you put in some effort, its not that bad. Cutler is one of the best math prof at Montclair.
He is not fair at all. He seems very nice and kind in the begining . But in the end of the semester he becomed an EVIL. Avoid himmmmm
I was studying on my own using youtube because i felt like i couldnt understand him . And half of the things we learned in class were not on the exam so i dont know why we would bother to learn it. he also teaches everything the hard way.
I had a fantastic learning experience with Dr. Cutler. The absolute go-to guy if you are a student interested in Graph Theory/Combinatorics. An unforgettable experience.
As a person , he is very nice. But as a professor , he is the worse . Sorry . But this is the truth. Dont take him
I love Cutler. He's not a very easy professor but he's very intelligent and very helpful if you go to him and ask.
Love this guy!! He truly is an amazing professor. He helps if you don't understand the material in class or during office hours and he's such a cute dork! I wish I can have him for another class. *sigh*
Young professor who knows math. Very helpful if you ask him a Q. Quizes every week. Tough grader, but drops off the lowest quiz. Loved his class
I hated this Course, Prof. Cutler was the worst professor to take for calc 1. His quizzes and tests are almost impossible. Unless you can figure out calc on your own. it might be ok to take him. He gives no review sheet or outline! No multiple choice. He gives webassign homework but says that they are not the best examples. No extra-credit.
Professor Cutler is the best Math professor that I've had at Montclair. His tests are simple if you know the material, he is not one to throw trick questions at you. Quizzes are very short and frequent, which is very helpful for keeping up with the material. He knows what he is talking about & is very good at explaining anything. Loves questions!!
Dr. Cutler's is top notch. I really enjoyed his lectures, as well as his homework assignments. He is a tough grader, but that's fine in a class such as "Transitions" as it is supposed to re-wire students to think like mathematicians. He's not handwavy or wishy-washy at all. A cultural experience indeed.
Jon is extremely intelligent and he cares so much about the math department at Montclair. This class was challenging but he teaches it well and is always willing and available to help. The only complaint I have was the last few weeks of the semester he completely switched gears and the class got a lot harder. Final project is very difficult.
Very hard and confused. Avoid him.
He is truly an awesome professor. Probably the best professor there is at MSU. He tries to make calc interesting and wants everyone to understand it before moving on. He is always available for help and the reviews are just like the tests. Highly recommend. Assigns webassign but gives some tries.
I failed calc twice and when I took his calc class I passed with an A. He's truly amazing and I would definitely take him again. He's probably the best teacher you can take for calculus.
My favorite professor at Montclair. He will make you want to learn. His 2 minute trig summary made me understand more than any other teacher. He is funny and doesnt make his problems hard, all mental math. If you get the answer wrong but understand it, he will give you at least 6/10 partial credit. Extremely encouraging and turly amazing. TAKE HIM!
Great professor. Makes things easy to understand. Exams are easy and short. His quizzes are easy as well. Highly recommended
Really nice and helpful. Wants every student to do well and understand all the material. His lectures are very thorough!
He is so nice! Lectures are clear and helpful!
Don't take his teaching style is horrible and avoid him. Basically learn on your own
DR. CUTLER IS INCREDIBLE. He explains the material clearly and concise. You can tell he is passionate about mathematics and the success of his students. I took topology with him, and I can say I would not have learned what I did without him!
Dr. Cutler is great. He makes a difficult subject fairly easy to understand. If you put in the work and pay attention in lecture you will do well. He isn't one of those professors that try to trick you. He just really wants his students to succeed.
Dr. Cutler was one of my favorite professors at MSU. I took him for number theory and topology. If you are not willing to work hard for your grade, do not take him. If you can do his homework assignments, you can certainly do well on his exams. Also, his teaching style is one of the best in the department. Highly recommended!
Hes a really good professor if you show him you care hell do his best to help. Hes very very nice, you can always go up to him and talk to him about your grade. Hes also always happy and nice. loves to talk to his students and help them out. He makes you work but its worth it at the end
He is not a good teacher if this is your first time taking calculus. He may be intelligent, but he cannot teach. He does not give review sheets. He talks too fast, writes too fast, and it's impossible to keep up with his train of thought. Please don't listen to these positive reviews. Save your GPA, don't take him unless you alrdy understand calc
One of the best professors I have had. He's willing to help whenever you need help. His exams are fairly easy. Homework is a little hard but it prepares you for the exams. He explains everything to a point where you think you're a student in middle school. Would defiantly take him again.
Dr. Cutler is an awesome calc professor. Calc isn't an easy subject but he makes it very understandable and he's also always willing to help his students outside of class. He truly cares for his students and if you reach out, he will offer extra help. Hw is optional, drops the lowest quiz grade, exam difficulty is average. Would take again for sure
Professor Cutler is an average professor in my own opinion. I do believe he is worth taking but it will very likely be difficult if you come into the class never having taken calculus before and compared to the other options for professors I believe your best bet is to take professor Cutler. Do not expect many breaks because class time is work time
TAKE HIM! Dr. Cutler is an amazing professor who really wants you to understand and challenges you in class so you can do well on his exams. His exams are very straight forward and rely on your understanding and HW. He replies fast to his emails and will go out of his way to help you. Hw is weekly and very useful. Show up to lecture though!!!!
All exams and quizzes are the same and simple and go to his office hours it will definitely help you. And make sure to go to the class every day cause he takes alot of notes and you should be their taking notes. As well have a review day for exams and final. He is the best calculus professor.
Professor Cutler is the best! He would explain everything clearly and would constantly ask students if they get the topic. He wants everyone to excel, so he will teach all possible ways to answer a question. Lectures are needed because of the notes he gives the students. His class is not hard if you pay attention and he's not tryna trick you. :)
Professor Cutler has to be one of the best mathematics professors I have ever had. He makes you put in the effort but his lectures are great. He so helpful and really loves his off-topic conversations about how the theories and formulas were made.
Professor Cutler made Calculus II feel easier than other math classes that I have taken. His lectures are great and really help you understand the material. A lot of quizes though, once a week, however they and the tests are very fair. Take him!
im really surprised his rating is not a 5/5.. he is seriously the best, the world needs more professors like him, he is passionate about what he teaches and cares.
He made calculus simple. If you put in any good effort in his class, you should get an A. Best mathematic professor I have ever had. No cap. Take him if you want a good grade and learn the subject well.
Good professor
He tells you everything you need to know to succeed in the class. He makes sure everyone understands the material and always answers any questions. HW is standard for the department, so he can't control it. Gives plenty of notice for quizzes and tests. Review session before each test. Reviews before each quiz. He actually made me really enjoy math.
He's super dedicated to teaching & math and great at explaining things. He's also is willing to answer whatever questions you may have. Gives quizzes and test and holds review sessions in class before each test. There's online homework assignments due each week but he's willing to give extensions if needed. Overall, great professor.
Cutler is the best professor I have had at MSU. Before quizzes and exams which were extremely helpful for last-minute questions, He truly does care for his students and if students are not understanding the material he will slow down for the class.
Such a great professor who cares about his students. He is always willing to answer questions and further explain material that might be uncertain to you. His quizzes, tests, and homework are all fair. His lectures are also engaging which made his class interesting and fun to learn.
Dr Cutler is great, tests and quizzes are just like the hw. Office hours he will explain every little detail of a solution perfectly.
Professor Cutler is probably the best mathematics professor at MSU. His lectures are amazing and very thorough. Exams and roughly weekly quizzes are very fair. Take him, you won't regret it!
I was scared of calc, still am lowkey but Professor Cutler made it so much easier. He has the sweetest soul and literally would spend his entire day helping you understand if he needed to. Homework is weekly but not TOO bad. Tests are not difficult if you genuinely understand the material.
Dr. Cutler is an amazing professor!! As someone who previously took calculus and dropped it, Dr. Cutler made calculus soooo easy to understand. Tests were very fair if you studied, and his lectures were amazing! Highly recommend taking him for calculus.
He postes the notes on canvas for every lecture. If you only study notes and understand them before each exam or quiz you should pass easily. Homworks due friday every week. Overall you should take him
L/A is a very unique type of math. It is easy computationally but hard conceptually. Cutler babbles a lot - he isn't very clear with concepts. But his office hours are very useful to go over homework. His tests are fair. Make sure to practice true or false questions. Unfortunately, your grade only consists of tests + quizzes. Not great but not bad.
Not gonna lie after reading Professor Cutlers reviews I felt extremely confident that I would pass his class. I am not even close to passing his class, basically your gonna take 3 quizzes, 2 Midterms, and 1 Final. Homework is usually due every friday. The only time attendance matters is on recitation. You wont have an opportunity for extra credit.
Professor Cutler was a great professor who was very clear in his understanding of linear algebra. The only thing I would be weary of for his course is that there are not a ton of quizzes and tests so make sure you put effort into studying. Provided a good review session before each exam aswell.
Nice guy. I took him for Calc 1. Just make sure to participate in class and come with questions to ask. If you're struggling I strongly recommend going to his office hours if you can, he goes through the math problems with you and makes sure you understand them. If you prioritize your time to studying and practicing problems you should be fine.
Everyday he took 40 minutes of class time to go over any homework questions. Homework's are due Friday and take less than 20 minutes if you grasp the concept. If you are struggling with anything it's best to go to his office hours. No nonsense quizzes and exams with 10 questions at most. As long as you practice questions you should be fine.
Prof Cutler is the best math teacher i've taken. He made calc relatively easy and always answered questions. There is about 1 homework assignment per week and they can be challenging. His exams were 10 questions and were just easier versions of the hw questions. There is a lot of material but take advantage of his office hours you will be fine.
Calc I. 2 midterms & cumulative final. Mandatory recitation once a week & worksheets every other week (not bad). 5 quizzes total (only few q's & 10% of grade). Hw for every section & graded on accuracy. Bulk of grade is exams. Great @ explaining, but I alr took calc in HS so I have more experience. Answers q's & tries to help as much as possible.
Very easy class if you have taken Calc before. Homework was more difficult than the actual exams and there were no trick questions. Do the problems in the back of the textbook and go to class, you can ask questions about the HW. You can tell he is very passionate and wants his students to succeed, you just need to put in the work and practice!
The textbook is free. You can actually use the textbook on your own, but attendance is mandatory and the quizzes and exams are also in class. Time to do the homework is generous and he also gives extensions if requested. He's a good guy.
Professor Cutler is one of the best math professor I have ever had. He makes Calc really understandable and answers to all the questions you might have. He is amazing
Hes really nice and helpful in office hours and through email. His quiz questions are very easy if you study. the homework on edfinity is really difficult and not like the quizzes or tests. he gives extensions if you ask and gives a lot of half credit for questions even if theyre wrong. go to office hours and use the review sessions.
He is AMAZING. Makes calc so easy to understand I wish he gave calc 2. You have to pay to do HW but thats all of the math department. Tests are so easy and not complicated at all, literally no tricks he wants you to pass and will provide clarification if you need it for and exam. Great guy and he is also very open to you asking questions in lect
He is very kind and generous. I could have gotten higher if I studied more but overall he is an amazing professor I would 100% take again.
Loved Prof Cutler. Homework is harder than what he brings on his exams. You can tell he loves what he does. He's always available for office hrs and for emails too.
