Really funny, clear, and the book is great. Also, there are only 75 points in the class, so each point is worth .1 on your GPA. It seems hard, but it isn't that bad, and is actually more fair b/c your grade is more representative of what you did.

Excellent teacher who has to fight the department and idiot students to teach material worth teaching. Seems abrasive, but listen to his jokes instead of taking offense. Incredibly intelligent; you'll feel smarter after having spent time with him (what is a teacher for, if not for this?). #1 in dept

He has major self-esteem issues, which is why his research is based on that topic. He is interesting and honest. Many people find him abrasive, but it's refreshing to have a teacher that doesn't **** and gets to the point. PS. Study for the tests, you screw up on one, there goes your grade.

He's definitely a funny guy and his class is very interesting. He did write the book however and he does expect you to know it front to back which got on my nerves. I didn't like his tests either. However, he gives you the option to earn 0.3 extra credit just by going to all sections and that helps a lot.

Brown is hilarious, easily my favorite professor at UW. Lectures were always interesting, although almost straight out of the book which he wrote. This guy knows his stuff and is good at answering any questions. Read the book and take notes on it! I got a 4.0 from this method.

Only Brown's hilarity will keep you from wanting to throw something heavy at him. Yes he is funny...but he is evil. He wants you to fail; he thinks that is as funny as his own jokes. And he will treat the class like a group of retarded goats that have not been house trained. I dropped his class after the first exam; it was ridiculously hard.

I signed up for the class as a degree requirement and it was the only one I could enroll in that fit into my schedule. No regrets! Professor Brown has a great sense of humor and makes learning the material more enjoyable. Concepts aren't easy, but it helps that he wrote the text required for the class since he clarifies things well.

Hilarious! His tests are a bit hard though, but he actually teaches what's in the book so you always know what you need to study. He also does his lectures along with the reading schedule that is assigned so that really helped. Great professor overall!

Worst teacher I've had by far. Sure he may crack a joke here and there, but besides that he is the rudest, most arrogant teacher at the U. Although tests were out of the book, they were hard and he did try to trick you. He did give 0.3 extra credit...

I highly encourage this class unless it's taught by Brown, he is by far the most unpersonable, unapproachable professor! I love this material but despise him. His tests are meant to trick you and he laughs at you if your question is stupid, yes in this class there are stupid questions. As a bonus have to buy his $126 book. Good luck but beware.

I thought this professor was great. He was good at explaining the matieral and was also very funny. Yes, you do need to read the whole textbook because he doesn't go over everything in class. But if you do that and study for the tests, you shouldn't have a problem pulling a good grade. I would definitely recommend him for this class.

Horrible. Lectures have nothing to do with test questions!! It all comes from the book (yep, he wrote it). Brown is incredibly arrogant and small. He actually thought I was threatening him because I let him know that I found his testing mean-spirited. Oh, and guess right on how he tests, if you screw one up your 345 grade is done!

Great professor! He really knows his stuff, is a great lecturer, and does a lot of activities to demonstrate the concepts. He wrote the book, so you need to read it/study it hardcore. I worked my ass off, but I learned a lot. The grading was fair (3 tests and small weekly quizzes). He teaches 245 the same way he teaches 345 less a couple essays.

Brown is self-absorbed and mean. He makes fun of ppl in class, tells ppl they are stupid for asking questions, and believes that we are all idiots like the rest of our generation. He makes inappropriate remarks and goes off topic constantly in lecture about his own beliefs which all are narrow-minded and self-enhancing. Also grades very hard

I have NO idea how people like this guy. He is also degrading and offensive. Also, he thinks he needs to teach students how to write, and will knock of points for extremely ridiculous reasons (>3 lines per sentence). I read the reviews, and wanted to make up my own mind. Sadly, I should have listened to the reviews and stayed away.

You have to take this teacher with a grain of salt. He is funny, but is a little arrogant. The good thing about this, though, is that he knows it, and uses it to his humor. A funny guy, extremely knowledgeable. You will learn a lot in this class. Just don't take anything personal, and stick to his guidelines (also a little anal about this).

My favorite professor hands down. He's hilarious, and absolutely knows what he's talking about. His explanations are clear, and he's such a good lecturer I looked forward to class. Sure, he might be unreasonably strict, & brutally honest, but he is a great professor, and he isn't a mean guy. The class isn't that hard; I took 2 classes & got 2 4.0s.

oh dear. this teacher seems to be really full of himself, he makes a handful of funny comments here and there. But the main point is he completely over teachers the 101 course. i spent 20 hours a week reading and it consumed my life. he talks way to much about the nitty gritty parts of psych not all the cool social aspects

Very good at lecture. Keeps you entertained and attentive. Expects A LOT from 101 students. He typically teaches in the 300-400 level and hold his 101 students to the same standards. So far over half of the class has failed, or close to failed, the first midterm. Fun class, but not rewarding grade wise.

Great lecturer, at times gets distracted with his jokes (though they are funny). He puts on a front of arrogance, but don't let this get to you (don't take anything personally) - he really is an amazing teacher. Learned a lot from the course. You HAVE to read the book though! Do this, take notes in class, study, and you'll be fine.

Brown doesn't take any bs from anyone, he's there for one purpose: to teach the material of the class. You can tell he was reluctant to teach 101, normally he teaches 345, and constantly makes fun of how immature and naive the little freshman are. Ultimately he's hilarious if you share his cynical view on life.

I came in hoping to learn some cool stuff about psychology, but was disappointed by a class with rambling lectures, poorly written exams, and a jerk of a professor. I'll never take another psychology class again. If you take psych 101, find a different professor for it!

Brown is one of the best professors i've ever had. He makes a point to intimidate his students in the first few lectures (I think it amuses him) and doesn't tolerate texting/sleeping/not paying attention, but is HILARIOUS and is very clear about his expectations. If you study the lectures and read the chapters, you will do well in the class.

Aside from the usual calling-out of students talking/texting/sleeping, Professor Brown knows his stuff. He's a very good professor and teaches in a way that's easy to understand. He can be pretty funny at times too. Just don't break any of his rules that he makes clear at the beginning of the class.

No doubt he's very difficult and demands a lot, but after all you're in college and should be studying hard. A bit difficult for a 101 class and very particular test questions but read the book, pay attention in lecture, and go over the lectures and you'd do fine. I personally found his humor amusing and made the class interesting.

Professor Brown was OK to listen to during lecture but he will call you out if he thinks you're sleeping or texting. The two midterms were fairly easy but the cumulative final totally screw me over and dropped my grade at least a full letter. Don't take his class if you're looking to get a good grade.

oh professor brown. he is snarky and arrogant, and clever and very funny. lectures are fun to sit through, he definitely is just waiting for someone to text or share a laptop so he can call them out. the curve get's punishing though: a 3.0, or 75% of the available points, is a 2.3 on his curve. so make sure you stay above 80% of the points.

Very manageable course if you keep up with the reading, which is pretty substantial. Has extra credit opportunity which gives big boost to overall GPA (+0.3 for 6 hrs study participant). Lectures are podcasted but it is impossible to follow them. Almost unbearable lecture but he tests on lecture and reading so it is important to go. Very arrogant!

Yes, Prof. Brown can be rather anal and kind of mean to incompetent students. If you do all the reading (he wrote the book, questions on the test are literally pulled from sentences in the book) and don't act like an idiot in class, you'll do fine. If you like cynical, sarcastic people, you'll love him.

This man was absolutely the most rude individual I've ever been in a class with. Almost scary. If you're interested in taking a class from a Dino Rossi lookalike who obsesses over Bob Dylan, you still shouldn't take this class. Not respectful to students and extremely difficult for no reason. Cant say enough bad things about this mental case.

Professor Brown is an awesome professor. He knows the subject matter, and expects you to as well. Go to his lectures; they're interesting and if you answer his questions right he'll like you. He's really not arrogant like everyone says he is. He wants you to think that he is so you won't come talk to him. One of the best classes I've had at UW.

A decently challenging course, due to the number of questions, but there's lots of extra credit. Going to lecture is strongly recommended since most questions are scored based on what he says [and believes]. Is occasionally funny and often cynical in a matter-of-fact way - still a fun class, and I learned a lot.

One of the best profs i've ever had. He makes a point to intimidate students, but i think he does it so people will actually try in his class (versus expecting a 101 course to be a breeze). Tests are verbatim what he says in lecture-so go! He makes the material interesting and he's HILARIOUS. keep up on reading and study and you'll do fine!

Professor brown is super strict, I got picked on twice in class just for talking to my friends when the class starts. His grading method sucks, do not curve at all, I have heard at least 5 people saying that they are going to drop the class. I will drop it too. He will blow up your freshmen year GPA.

The professor is super hard. If you want to take his corse make sure you have photographic memory, or perfect memory. It is close to impossible to get a 4.0 in his course. I recommend you look for another processor that teaches this course. But if you have him. 1 word of recommendation. There is always drop at the end of the quarter. Good luck!

I sincerely understand the harsh comments made by a lot of non-psych major students. But if you are a psych major who is really interested in learning social psychology. 4.0 isn't impossible. Just read the textbook and make sure you know everything. That's all you have to do.

I thought psych 101 was going to be my easy class! I was wrong, it's my hardest! He has 3 exams total & finals cumulative with no curve. He does not allow phones and threatens to walk out when he sees them. He's a good lecturer but requires that you memorize EVERYTHING he lectures + chapters from book 40+pg per chapter. 2-3 chapters a week!

Very interesting course. Although intimidating at first, Professor Brown really grew on me. He knows the material inside and out, and expects his students to do the same. Attending class, taking notes, and reading the text book are the keys to success. If you are interested in psychology, I definitely recommend taking his class!

This guy is a terrible prof. I am in a bio class at NSCC and my lab partner had him 5 years ago and told me she never went to his lectures either bc he is pompous as detracts from the material. Read the book and listen to the podcast, he'll say in the beginning this isn't covered in the book, listen to those parts. Torture coming to this class.

THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!! His class killed almost everyones grades. People may say this class is super easy but it isn't. He does not curve grades at all so I am pretty sure the class average is around 1.5. Grade all depends on tests. Approx every 2 questions lost on midterm/final is -.1 gpa. Don't make the same mistake I did!

This class is going to be hard. If you are already in it for the long haul here's good advice: GO TO LECTURE. A lot of the tests are based off what he says & believes. Also DO read the chapters - there are questions from them on tests. Brown expects a lot and many hate him for it, but he tells you day one this is NOT an easy 101 class.

People say Brown is insane, will ruin your GPA, and is a meanie. Not really true (those people are just bitter that they put no effort in & got a bad grade). He wants to teach you a lot about psychology. No, it's not the easiest 101 class, but you will learn a ton. I found the textbook extremely tedious & unclear, but his lectures are quite good.

Do not take this class. The professor is immature, rude, incoherent, and crude. He expects a lot and if you don't intend to slave over your book you will not receive a high grade. The lectures are the most helpful part of that class but that isn't saying much. Best advice from a former student is don't take the class taught by him.

A very rude and strict professor. His grading system is just AWFUL. You'll get a minus .1 GPA for every 2 mistakes that you make on ALL the exams (cumulative grading system). My recommendation: NEVER EVER TAKE HIS CLASS.

Let me start my saying this is by far the hardest psych 101 class offered at UW. Brown is a very difficult teacher and I would not recommend taking this class if you ar looking for a GPA booster. If you are in this class, read the book and attend every lecture. Tests are hard and grading system is quite harsh. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT

he's entertaining at times, but not necessarily the best professor. he skips over some topics and can be confusing at times. he can be rude and can get off track a lot. you don't learn that much because he's not very engaging and you need to be a hermit in order to get a decent grade.

He's a professor who knows his subject. He's absolutely hilarious and he knows it, which of course makes him smug, but I think he's likable. He can be intimidating and tends to pick on people (don't take it to heart). However, his exams are tough. I had a 4.0 before the final and my grade dropped a lot after that. People might say he's a bad guy, but he's actually a pretty good lecturer. He's kind of rude, smug, and picks on people a lot. He's very opinionated, but you really need to read the textbook. He bases his tests off the textbook and writes questions exactly how they are stated in the book. Don't take it if you are looking for an easy class.

I came into this Psychology class with an optimistic attitude despite what other students had written about Prof Brown. I tried really hard and still was disappointed. This is no easy class, you will not get a 4.0 and the psychology department at UW blows. My advice DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS and for those of you who choose not to listen, GOOD LUCK!

DO NOT TAKE PSYCH 101 WITH JONATHON BROWN. He makes the class far too hard for a 101 class. He is arrogant and pompous, and gets a kick out of shocking students when they see their grades and realize how terribly they are doing in the course. I had to drop the class after receiving a 1.5 and 1.3 on two of the midterms...and I studied hard!

On day one, Prof Brown said he would teach as much psych as possible. He did. He's a good guy, helpful if you go to his office. I was excited for psych when the quarter started. I am very organized, never missed one lecture, and studied 15-20 hrs/week. Did all the extra credit, and got a 3.3 which really killed the GPA. VERY hard class, up to you!

Despite what many people have said, there is no reason for this class to "ruin your gpa," especially with the generous extra credit offered. Yes, you have to go to lecture. Yes, you have to study. SHOCKING. He's neither rude nor arrogant, just expects a certain level of maturity that's often lacking in 101 classes. Don't text or talk. Easy enough.

Brown in a crummy person but a good teacher. I took this class as a sophomore with science classes that would make the whiners on rate my professor wet their huggies. I danced my way to a 4.0 by taking notes, READING them (which most freshmen forget to do) using the study guide(which is exactly the test) and not crying over his mean jokes.

Difficult class, his excuse is he is trying to "teach you as much psychology as possible", which is false. He gives absolutely ZERO effort into helping students succeed. He is very biased towards his own field of psychology and teaches them as silly and obnoxious. Do NOT take this class if you are looking for a easy class. (I ended up with a 3.9)

This professor is not easy. His tests are all multiple choice, but they can be tricky so you do actually have to study. However, as long as you read the book and pay attention in lecture you should be fine. Including extra credit I managed to pull off a 4.0 but it was tough. Just make sure to look at the study guides because they'll save you

I recommend him for Psych 345, but not 101.He seems more passionate about social psych,& I think has more respect for the higher level psych students.You will learn a lot from him, but his tests are very hard.I suggest THOROUGHLY reading the bk & being familiar w/ research studies described in lecture. He's a very good lecturer & has lots to offer.

I do not recommend taking this class if you are one to sleep or text constantly. If you need that much stimulation, bring a laptop or else face the scathing glare of Dr. Brown. If, however, you actually care and pay attention and don't act stupid, his antics are extremely amusing. Watching him callout your fellow classmates is highly motivating.

I definately DO NOT recommend this class to anyone. He is not very clear in lectures and his test a fairly difficult. He does not release old test and will not put his lecture slides online, so you better write fast! And don't even think about taking pictures of the slides because this is not allowed. Overall not a very good professor!

Brown clearly hates teaching. He has treated his students with rudeness and unwillingness to help. He complains about his job during class, and denounces modern technology, despite how he uses YouTube videos in his PowerPoints (he doesn't even know how to pause/fullscreen/scroll). hates teaching 101. Browner the Downer is his nickname. whatever he doesn't like listening is schlock. He hates all Do-we-have-to questions from students. He hates technology to-date. Everything can drive him nuts-these are all his words. unapproachable, discouraging, intimidating guy. I guess he really impresses and upsets me.

I really enjoyed this professor. He is very witty and he teaches well. You are forced to learn the material well because he talks quickly so you have to keep up with what he says. He is really funny and interesting to talk to. His class is extremely hard. READ THE TEXTBOOK. He does not hesistate to praise students who do particularly well.

It sounds like his online classes are different from his classes on campus. The lectures were very clear, he responds quickly to emails, and makes it easy to succeed as long as you read the book! Midterm and final draw heavily from material in the textbook that are not covered in lecture, especially on specific researchers and findings.

Brown will pick on you if you're sleeping or texting in class. If you pay attention he can be very entertaining. He's very egotistical and has cynical humor, which I find very funny. Exams are tough, but if you work hard, you'll do fine. People say he's mean, but he just wants his students to succeed. In the end, you either love him or hate him.

Difficult class. Added it thinking it would be an easy class to balance out my schedule. Not the case! I'd say it feels like a 10 credit class! Lots of material and book reading. Material is easy to follow, it's not confusing there's just a lot of it. You must attend lecture every day, review your notes daily and read the book to earn a good grade!

Academically, I would say that Brown is a good professor. However, he is annoyed by EVERYTHING and will stop teaching if someone yawns without covering their mouth. It really detracts from lecture because he becomes unfocused and wastes time. Be prepared for a lot of reading - he doesn't cover all of the reading in lecture but puts it on exams.

I got a 4.0 in this class, but only because this was not my first Psych class (PSYCH 101 did not transfer). I took this class along with CHEM 142 and more people dropped this class than chem with Carroll. I wouldn't recommend this professor if youre expecting his psych class to be THE freshman class/easy elective.

One of my least liked professors. His lectures were unbearable. He always looked for ways to embarrass and belittle his students. Very condescending. His tests were harder than they should have been for a beginners course. Don't take classes with him.

I know he actually reads these things so I'll try to be constructive. He assumes everyone is there to get an easy A so he makes the class more difficult than need be. Actually his class was what deterred me from psych. His approach is too aggressive. I'm not saying getting a good grade is impossible but I had to spend 20+ hrs/week outside of class.

Brown is hilarious. You have to get over the fact that he is terribly rude and condescending in order to appreciate his humor (and the irony that he teaches a personality class). Also if you don't already know to cover your yawns, you will quickly. Overall his personality and criticisms keep you on your toes and make the class entertaining.

I took Professor Brown's online class- Psych 203. I see a lot of reviews bemoaning the difficulty of the course & his attitude. None of this applied to my experience. Through his lectures, Brown made the textbook material much clearer and more interesting. Read the book, pay close attention, and you will do fine. This is college not high school!

This is what a college class should be--challenging, but thoroughly educational (random tangents aside). As much as he says he he thinks the material's all baloney, he knows it backwards and forwards and can teach you a lot. I've taken more away from his classes than any others. If you're good with psych and review the material, you'll do great.

After taking Brown's class, I was discouraged and wasn't sure if I wanted to major in Psych anymore. I retook the class with McDermott and improved my grade by .7. I will not take one of Brown's classes unless I have to. Had a negative attitude towards his students,seemed out to get everyone (don't yawn in class or show any sign of boredom).

He is one of the best, if not the best, lecturer I have had. He knows the material backwards and forwards. I got more insight into human behavior in this class than all my psych classes combined. Take this class if you are a serious student capable of seeing humor is his tangents. I thought they were pretty good. You must take it seriously.

Brown is an awful teacher because he has no desire for students to learn. Sure, he knows the material well, but spends more time picking on students and cracking idiotic jokes and storming out of class when phones go off, than actually lecturing. Worst professor I've had, and the worst thing is he's on tenure and can't get fired.

The old man's class is tough but very interesting. You have to work had in the class. 90% test questions are from Lectures and 10 percent are from the textbook. One of the most interesting professor i have seen at UW.

Brown know the material really well and is able to convey that material better than any other professor I have had so far. That being said, this is not an easy 4. Read EVERYTHING in the textbook and treat all info like you will be tested on it. If you're good at memorizing terms, then this class shouldn't be too bad. Doesn't curve.

Brown was a great professor, but he will make you work your butt off even for a 3.0. You have to be willing to put in the effort. Also, since there are only three multiple choice tests, if you mess up on one, your grade takes quite the hit. Lastly, be ready to hear rants about how his generation is better than yours. Dr. Brown is exceedingly clear in his expectations. The website, book, and lectures are well organized; he knows the material; and he teaches effectively. If he skips content, moves quickly, or dallies with tangents, then he will tell you where to find the missed material. No tolerance for cell phones or rudeness. Read the textbook and go to class.

I guess enough stuff has been said on this page to show what type of guy he is. I'd just cut him some slack since it seems like he hates having to teach. Still don't understand why he does it. I literally tried to chase this guy down but he always ignores his students. His tests do not reflect how well you know the material- it's pure memorization.

Fantastic! The book is shorter and more clearly written than many other psychology textbooks I've had to read in past classes. The prof gives funny lectures, and ALL the information you will need to succeed is in the book. You will have to read the book very carefully to succeed, but attendance isn't required to do well. Turn your phone off!!!

I've been through many upper-division classes in both the psych and bio and I can pretty confidently assert that Brown is not a good professor. His condescension and inane distaste for technology offsets his intellectual accumen to the point where learning from him is more of a task than a pleasure. The work is not the problem, it's the person.

Anyone rating him as good are doing so out of relief for having a decent grade-which is a battle in itself. He is rude, condescending & arrogant. Class was graded on 3 tests that are *not* curved. Your understanding means *nothing*, it's all memorization of little info. Even if you score above avg, there is that 75% chance it will ruin your GPA.

Impossible to focus on the content of the course while he continually targets and harasses students during lecture. Adds nothing to the class, just really distracting. Just a mean guy who uses the course as an attempt to raise his (obviously very low) self esteem. Hard to get a good grade (class average is a 2.5) and not worth anyones time.

The good: Brown is well organized and rarely has a lecture spill over to the next day. His presentations are very clear and he is explicit regarding what you do and don't need to know. The bad: Tests are difficult and there is a lot of material. The ugly: While he is not racist or sexist, he frequently and openly mocks students.

I loved Brown's lectures (though he DOES call out students for yawning, sleeping, etc., which can be a turn off for some), but wasn't so crazy about his grading. Grade is based off of 3 tests; no curve. To pass, you have to study really, really hard, but even though I did so, I struggled immensely. Like Brown, but would pick a different professor.

Brown just leaves you in the wild to fend for yourself. He doesn't give assignments so know how to study. Do not be expecting an easy A. A lot of memorizing. He doesn't have office hours, only his TA's do.

If you take things too seriously, you will probably be offended by a lot of his comments/jokes but I personally think he is hilarious. He does not sugar coat anything and is straight forward. He literally notices EVERYTHING so do not text in class. As for his exams, I didn't find them too hard. You just have to actually try and READ THE BOOK.

Most people dislike him but that's okay because he doesn't care. He's a good lecturer. He gives everyone an equally hard time but in some weird way he cares about how much you learn. Exams are very hard (largely due to his vocabulary). He doesn't check his tests for confusing or misleading questions so what you get is what you get.

Lectures can be pretty entertaining, but Brown will spend most of his time telling you how stupid you are. Even if you don't wear Tom's and Lululemon it will probably get quite tiresome for you. He's pretty good for Social (345): uses his own textbook, read it and you'll do fine. Tests in this class were awful though: not challenging in a good way.

Dr. Brown is not a bad prof, but if you take him too seriously, you'll be miserable in the class. The grade consists of a weekly quiz, 3 papers, and 3 tests. There is no curve. You NEED to study and read the book if you want a good grade. Going to lecture is helpful, but not really necessary to understand the material as long as you read the book.

I got a 2.0 in the class which wound up being the class average meaning majority of his students received a 2.0. I got almost 100% on all 4 papers and got average for every test. He doesn't curve his class so you get what you get. He clearly hates teaching and lets the class know that every lecture. He tries to trick you on exams.

Prof Brown is highly neurotic and refers to himself as "Browner the downer". he says it is ironic that he teaches personality classes because his personality is terrible. Honestly, he is mean and unfortunate to listen to, but his class is not all that bad. 4 easy papers, 3 tests. The grade you get is what you get - no wiggle room.

Brown get a pretty bad reputation because of his "strict" rules. He doesn't allow you to be on your phone in class, he doesn't allow you to arrive late to tests or classes etc., all of which are pretty reasonable rules. The best prof I have had and would definitely take another class with him. Just be a respectful student and open to learning.

He is a truly knowledgeable and talented professor. He expects students to be respectful towards eachother and to him. He has an unfiltered sense of humor, but truly cares about his students. I have learned so much from Brown that I don't really care what my grade is. I 100% recommend taking any of his courses. He is fantastic.

I loved this course and this professor. He gets a lot of flack for being too old school, but in all honestly, if you can't keep off of your phone or feel like you can stroll in late and disrupt those of us who enjoy learning, then you don't have the right to be in class. Brown is truly a well of knowledge and he makes the concepts quite relatable.

I think Jon Brown deserves more credit. It's not an easy class. If you're here for an easy A, don't take him. If you want to learn something and can handle his crude humor, you'll love it. Elementary class but would not take late work. Not even by a day. Even if someone died, even if it is not your fault, other than that, everything is easy. You can even retake the lesson quizzes as many times as you want before the deadline. Lectures are fascinating as well. Fun activities.

Took this class online and it was easily my favorite class this quarter. Brown is straight to the point and funny in a dry humor sort of way that i enjoyed. We were graded on 2 exams, a lecture quiz every week, and 2 discussion posts and replies. The readings werent heavy, and the exam questions were extremely straightforward (as long as you do the readings and skim the lectures). Overall, hes a decent professor based on how the material was presented and how the class was organized online.

I took Phys 101 online and it was super easy. There were small projects that were due weekly (some weeks there weren't any) and a midterm and a final. Reading the textbook is important because not all of the test info is on the videos. Also we never got a single word from Professor Jonathon himself, it was all run by the TA.

Brown does not care if you have outside commitments if you need to reschedule a test or exam. Asked to reschedule exam but was denied because my reasoning was not good enough. I was leaving town to honor the death of a loved one.

He is living in the past. (A) this class was easy (B) all he talks about is Freud and Freud's students. He later explains other things, but I just don't care too much for theoretical psychology classes. He also was using very outdated terms which I took some offense to (i.e., "Bohemian"). He didn't teach very well, strict, backward, old, grouchy.

I got very sick once and it wiped me OUT. I accidentally forgot one quiz because I fell asleep out of pure exhaustion and slept for 16 hours. I asked the next day if I could retake it, but he said that he doesn't accept late work unless it has a good reason and that I didn't have one. Not understanding, strict rules, archaic man, not enjoyable.

The class was not built to endorse student learning. Quiz openings and lecture styles were restricting and not built for varied learning approaches, very limited time during quizzes, and the content felt more like a history class (an outdated one) than a psychology course. The requirements of the curriculum did not condone a learning environment.

Communication for this class was all from the TA, so not sure how much the professor actually engages with the course. His video lectures were fine, ~1 hour per week, but the content felt repetitive and tedious by the end. Exams, quizzes, and discussions were reasonable, a good class if you just want asynchronous and online, but not great otherwise

Since this was an online class, I did not have many interactions with professor Brown but for the few times I did, he showed great engagement by answering emails very quickly and giving clarifications right away when they were needed. I had a great experience in his class and he was respectful and professional the whole quarter!
