the course it self is very hard but he tries his hardest to make you understand, he's available for questions anytime...
he is great guy who tries to explain each point of discussion explicitly. And the best thing about him is that he is almost always available and always always willing to help. organic chemistry is hard but this guy tries to make it look so easy. but as always, there has to be an wffort on on your part. my advice is to take him
Outstanding
he's a nice guy but he goes by the book not very lenient.
very very nice professor and is always willing to explain.just try to study and he will help you
Much easier than Profit. Especially if you take him during the summer! A huge sigh of relief... if you ever dreaded organic chemistry. he's a huge relief.Student say he's hard, I say they're just stupid.
Regardless of grade I get which I don't even know of at the moment, Professor Lee is quite the gentleman! He is very polite, kind-hearted, sincere and has an innocent sense of humor! He taught students well and as much as he could while even missing his lunch break every day! The kind of grade u get is really up to u-4 help go to his office hours!
This teacher is kind of good. But the reason why I rate him badly is because, he refuses to help students that are not in his class, and he is plain biased. Also he has preferences, he only helps certain students. You'll see him spend hours with them. If you are not one of them, drop!
Wonderful!
he is kind of hard though i think he wants students to reach a certain level. so a word of advice if you really want to learn organic chemistry take him otherwise take Lt if you just Lee want to memorize facts take profit you'll know what i mean when i take the course.
Check the conference room next to his office. There are always students studying with him. Sometimes even in his research lab. He is always with someone who needs help. He knows everying about organic. Simply the best!
very bias and rude when talking to individuals, suggests that only certain students are capable of getting a good grade.
Amazing professor. He's clear, concise, conceptual, honest and fair. He's has one of the best teaching methods I've ever seen in a CUNY school. He's not book based but more of a concept kind of a person. Even if he has favorites, when it comes to grading, he has no favorites. He's totally fair to everyone when it comes to grading and curves a lot!!
Great instructor. Knows subject very well and explains concepts very well. Altho he went easy on us in terms of grading and speed, you shud not underestimate him in any way! almost cost me. Come to workshops too. any details, go to his website it's useful, google Dr. lee york college. Also, altho curves a lot, he is not biased.idk y pple put dat
Took Lee for chem 232(lab) he was crystal clear in his objectives & desires 4 coursework. will definately take him for 233/34. Many choose not 2 take him bcuz they say he is hard, but Lee puts an enormous amount of time into helping his students whereas other organic professors r nonexistant in the office, even during their office hrs! so take lee
Professor never looks at other students when he's lecturing except for a specific few who he constantly says are his "A" students, but that others can hope for B's or C's
If any one has taken him for Organic Chem 1 and has his notes or exams please email me at [email protected]. I will buy them from you please ..Thanks
You'll work hard, but it'll be worth it in the end. GOOD LUCK
Great teacher try to make everything clear but there's much he can do because the class is harddd
i took this class in the begining it was hard but with the help of the professor by offering office hours to help student it really help me. i don't know why people say he is hard, he is very helpful but you have to study hard.
A true role model. Period. In my opinion best teacher cuny has to offer.wish my other professors were as passionate about their field as this guy is. Will recommend to anyone who wants to learn the meterial.
He grades u based on how well u understand the concepts.Think inside the box especially at a molecular level. He wants his students to learn and u need to work hard to do well in the course.
He is one of the great professor because he cares about student's grade, and he can tell who is working really hard. And at the end, students get their grade what they deserve. Finally, he will motivates you to study harder and to get good grade that's for sure. I got an A in organic II in fall 2013. He is the best.
Okay, heres the deal. he's a great professor; he taught me to think outside the box and not to memorize, however, when it came to exams you need to memorize some things in order to pass. Also, he plays favorites so go to his office hours and be his friend. I didnt think i needed to do this to get a good grade, i was SO wrong.
One of the best Professor York College has to offer. The people that find this professor hard, are the people that don't put effort in this subject. Dr. Lee tries to make you think and use skills that will help you for graduate exams such as the MCAT, DAT, and etc.
Ok, I have always said that he's a good person but not a good professor. He don't explain that well and expect you to know the material in advance. His lecture starts with potential energy and the semester ends with potential energy. You have to sit in the front and talk to him, say hi to him during office time to succeed or else not much chance.
Took the course in 2006-2007. Dr. Lee is good teacher and cares about his students. You do have to apply yourself and take the course seriously. He makes himself available and is always there to help. After this course, I received a perfect score on the DAT organic section. And definitely helped me in graduate school. You get what you put in.
Dr. Lee is very helpful, nice and intelligent. He offers office hours and he quickly replies to emails. I took this class in summer. Some people said earlier that you have to sit in front & say hi to him to get good grades, that's not true. By sitting in front, it helped me to make focus. He is a fair grader. Grades are based on understanding.
Dr. Lee is not an easy A but come on is ORGANIC CHEMISTRY so prepare to practice and ask him question. He likes when students go to his office hours so make sure you go. A lot of students don't like him but he is always there for his students and make sure you are understanding the subjects but you have to put your part.
I never went to his office hrs and he doesn't know my name and I'm still getting A's not because i sit in the front or make him know my name but because i study and try to understand whats going on in the molecules. My answers aren't always correct but my work shows i understand whats going on and thats what lee cares about
He might be passionate about his field, but he knows how to be rude and sarcastic to some students. This attitude of his erases enthusiasm of studying his subject.
He's a nice person but he can't teach. He writes on the board extremely messy, his exams are difficult so those extra points are useless, and he expects you to understand/explain things as he does. Basically, take at your own risk.
Prof Lee is a great person but when it comes to teaching its a daytime NIGHTMARE!!he wants everything his way, no slides, tests are hard and DO NOT RELATE TO THE EASY EXAMPLES WE DO IN CLASS. I am an A grade student and got a D- with lee's teaching, had to retake the class the following semester and PAY FOR IT TWICE! DONT TAKE FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!!!
terrible
Want to learn Organic Chemistry? Take Lee! He will help you pass your MCAT. Very intelligent! Sincere, compassionate, and enthusiastic about teaching. Study, practice, read, and learn the concepts. It's possible to get an A-. Worked my butt off! You have to earn your grade! Goes above and beyond! Read his posts & do practice problems on BB!
Run!!!!!!
this guy is freaking amazing a true gem and a true inspiration. hes is there for his students every step of the way.... having a hard time in orgo? speak to him. will give u tips and advice. study VERY hard. know your stuff. A is very much possible with Lee.
ugh no words hes just brilliant .... TAKE HIM!!!!!
lee is the man very understand and a true inspiration
He will make you rehtink your chemistry career or Bio, He will show an intelletecul new perpesctive of how to view molecar level or science in general
Incredibly tough grader!! No matter how much you study for his exams, you won't get the grade you expect. Most tough grader I have ever encountered at york. He wants the answer his way only! Oh, and don't bother going to him to ask him to regrade your exam cause he'll give you a zero for that question! Just stay away. Its not worth the trouble.
Dr. Lee offers 3-4 hours for office hours every week. This class is tough but If you take good notes, go to his office hours & understand the concepts you will do good. I didn't solve enough practice problems from book because I wasted a lot of time on reading online summaries of concepts. Solve practice problems. He is so helpful, take him.
Dr. Lee is an amazing person that made a hard class okay to take. Make sure you do your pre-labs AND post-labs because it becomes easier to study for the midterm and the final. A lot of people do not listen when he says maintain a lab notebook, which is usually why they do not do as well. The presentation is easy, but the final was hard.
Dr. Lee moved at a fast past which was hard for me to keep up. He wants everyone to do the best that they can, but as the semester went by, more and more people dropped the class. Organic chemistry is not an easy subject, so choose Dr. Lee when you are ready both mentally and emotionally to take it.
Make use of his office hours. He EXPLAINS concepts well and speaks FLUENT English. If you take Lee get ready to work from day 1 his test and exams are no joke. HOWEVER he very encouraging. You won't regret it. However, be prepare to empty your mind of what you know so that you can understand orgo. It won't be easy but it is doable.
The only way to get a good grade is to attend every one of his office hours because he doesnt have enough time to cover everything in the lecture. As someone who had classes during his office hours, I didnt stand a chance to see problems that would appear on the exams. Your grade is 100% from exams.
Took him in the summer for Organic chemistry lecture and lab. It was really hard but he cares about his students and wants them all to do well. He goes into more detail in his office hours so you should definitely attend. The subject matter itself is incredibly difficult so doing well is not easy but it is definitely possible with him.
Took him for orgo 2 memorize the reagents JUST DO IT. Make use of his office hours DO NOT MISS CLASS. He's one of the best professors there is in organic chemistry.
I took Prof. Lee for Orgo 1 and Orgo 2. Honestly I don't know if i would've passed orgo 1 if i wouldnt have taken him. He helps you actually LEARN the material not just memorize it. He is always available for office hours and he is very detailed while teaching. He doesnt just want you to do good but to actually learn for your MCATS or PCATS
He's very kind in the laboratory. ASK QUESTIONS and write good notes in your labs notebook. There are only 2 exams (midterm and final). Study the handouts!
You have to work for your grade to been on his side Low-key judgmental & biased Appears nice but v egoistic Leaves you to do the lab by yourself Knows his stuff but doesn't explain well, expects you to know everything before class His slides are not helpful No instructions for the lab procedure Can be intimidating Would not take again Got an A
He is the best Professor for Chemistry.
Just midterm and final is your grade Essay questions and compares your answer with others and then decides the best gets full points snd you get the lowest even if you are right too Those below with high ratings have Bs Cs Take what you want from this Best to avoid if you are straight As in Stem classes Wants u suck up to him
No notes to look back unless you make your own Not fair in grading Only two exams to decide your fate
Had him for lab. Left us stuff to do then just left to his office and came in here and there. Overall worst professor I've ever had. Seems nice, but expects too much. Gives very hard exams so everyone fails then creates his even distribution of grades. That's all he cares about. That he looks good. He wants to uphold his reputation. Terrible
To be honest he just wasn't a good professor that helped students in by notes he just showed his videos and expected students to understand straight up. He has too high of expectations for his students when he teaches like he isnt considerate of his students when he only gives two test and homework assignments that are meniscal in proportion.
Dr lee is a real gem!!!! He is one of the best professors at York college. I had him for orgo 233 (organic chemistry 2), i studied really hard for this class and honestly he taught me how to study... He dont want his students to by-hear or memorize anything and what he want from his students is understanding the concepts. Take Him you wont regret!
I think Dr. Lee is the best science professor Ive ever come across so far. When he teaches he gives the logic behind it which makes you think to yourself damn.. it make sense now if you are not lazy you can definitely pull it off and sees that your trying gives you xtra credits cares about his students
You need to work for your grade, but then again this is organic chemistry class so either way you will need to put in work. He honestly gives you so many chances to at least pass the class.
Terrible. He gives elaborate pop quizzes and only gives you 3-5 minutes to do it. Expects students to know the material. For any form of exam, quiz, or homework, you can't just put the correct answer because you won't get credit. He requires you to explain how and why you got that answer. If your explanation is not up to his standard you will fail.
Dr. Lee is a tough professor in the sense that he expects certain detailed explanations to his questions and also grades pretty harshly. However, he gives you a chance to pass by giving extra credit and assigning fair homework/ pop quizzes. If you study his lectures AND the textbook daily, you will do very well. Stay on top of the material.
I love this professor from the bottom of my heart, but the class itself is brutal. However, he is a great professor because he always provided after-class sessions. those sessions were the best because he would be there every step of the way showing you how to understand and break down orgo.
too focused on his reputation and compares York to Columbia and other ivy leagues. Says he wants to grade us based off Ivy League standards but we are not receiving Ivy League lectures. doesn't do much teaching, instead he asks the class questions for each slide. Has office hours and if you want to pass you have to attend
Style of teaching is more philosophical. Seems a harsh professor but not at all. Says york students are not ready for medical school. Some lectures confusing- be prepared to learn on your own, watch videos before class. Doesn't lecture much, has prerecorded videos to watch, students presentation is your lecture. wants lab reports at molecular level
Dr. Lee, is a great professor. He's tough, but the material is difficult. He can't make you understand this material any better because it is an extremely complex subject. You must do the reading, you must get external videos to support, you should go to office hours. He's available at any time and will assist when you ask. He loves a dumb question
Dr. Lee is amazing. He cares about his students like a parent and tries his best to help. His office hour is extremely helpful (try not to miss any). He also takes out extra time from his schedule to be there for students. He is courteous and kind and teaches Orgo in a way that you understand and don't have to memorize. Also, he gives extra credit.
Dr. Lee is kind, thoughtful and he truly cares about all students. Be open mind to learn science in a nonorthodox way. Do Not Get Distracted, follow his lectures, attend office hours, read or watch videos about the lessons, and practice problems, ask questions and you will understand organic chemistry for life.
One of my most favorite Professor at York, he definitely is a father figure to all his students. He genuinely cares for his students and York. He really motivates you to try your best. Just try your best take advantage his office hour, participations. Orgo itself is a hard course but if you try to genuinely understand his concept you will be fine.
Dr. Lee really cares of the students future out in the competitive world. His lectures are heavy on details that will aid on visualizing molecules in a way that Organic chemistry entails. Know all the basics of chem 1 & 2. His office hours and YouTube videos (OrgoLee) are great resources to get into from the early start of the class.
Dr. Lee focuses on facilitating growth mindset in the classroom so his prelab presentation consists of the group presentation of respective groups and pitches in with questions and missed details. His feedbacks are immensely helpful so definitely make sure to follow them after submitting your lab. Worship the molecules and ask for help if you need.
I took Dr.Lee for both lec/lab orgo1. He provides material to learn concepts (intensive blackboard resources and Youtube videos to supplement your learning). After studying on your own, if you can attend office office hours, come prepared with questions and ideas to show him he will guide you. Amazing professor, I learned a lot from him for future.
One of the best professors to teach organic. He cares and wants his students to do well, which tells a lot about who he is as a person. Other organic professors around CUNY are no match, he teaches organic from his own experience as a student and gives students a chance to succeed. Though it was 7 weeks I learned so much from him.
One of the best professors I've seen so far! I wish I had learned chemistry his way since the beginning. He teaches WHY things are happening vs just memorizing rules. He is always willing to help and provide feedback as long as you ask. Going to office hours really helps boost understanding! Watch his videos before lectures.
Honestly, the best professor in the chemistry department. When you go to class be prepared to learn real chemistry. Professor explains everything thoroughly and helps you when you need help. The most genuine professor in York, he is very caring and understanding.
One of the best professors I know, he really knows what he is teaching and he is very caring. Some people might complain but organic chemistry is a hard thing to get around, however, if you go to class and actually take his advice on how to go around the material, you will get it. He gives extra credits and curves. Understanding over memorization.
Dr. Lee is one of the best professor in the chemistry department. He cares about his students and wants to help them grow. Dr. Lee breaks down each topics and makes it easier to learn. He focuses more on understanding rather than memorization. If you put time and effort, attend his office hours and follow his advice, you will do great.
Organic Chemistry is a hard subject, it requires a lot of study and practice. However, Dr. Lee provides various resources such as his review sheets, YouTube channel, and office hours to help student. I attended all his offices hours and felt I learned most from it. He is patient and is willing to re-explain topics in ways students can understand.
I graduated york 3 yrs ago with a bio major. Dr Lee wrote my LOR for medical school & I got in. This is one of the best teachers I ever had in my life. If you love science, oh man you will have a blast with him. He is amazing both in chemistry & telling stories, getting philosophical, & inspiring his students. Seriously THE BEST. I miss office hrs!
He is my favorite professor at York. He is concerned about his students. He doesn't want you to just memorize, he wants you to understand how science works. Even though the molecular level is difficult, the molecular level is the key to science. Take his class if you really want to learn the knowledge.
He's an excellent professor. He genuinely cares about your understanding, and if not, he's willing to adjust the way he explains things. His exams are at the perfect level. You'll most likely remember the explanations he gives for the rest of your life.
Dr. Lee is the best professor I've ever had. He cares so much that his students learn the material, and maybe find some passion for the subject. He constantly gives up his time to host free workshops and stays in office hours as long as he can to help students understand. Be ready to work and devote time however, this is a difficult topic.
If you really want to study and understand Organic then take him.
Need a clear view of molecular level. But don't worry he will help you on his office hour if you have any Q problems. Orgo was a hard topic so need to attend every class.
Hes a really great person, but he's not a good professor. His style of teaching is really hard to understand. He doesn't use slides, his exams are way harder than what he teaches. He can also come off a little condescending sometimes. I wish the best for Dr. Lee, I just wish it was easier to understand him. He's passionate, but can't convey well.
He thinks he is a better teacher than he actually is. He says he is giving "colombia" level teaching but he makes everything confusing. I took orgo before and just wanted a little refresher before my master program and he made me feel so dumb. He over explains and makes you more confused. He gets too passionate and waste time talking about nothing.
He's actually a very toxic individual. He made many passive aggressive comments. What I learned from him (he has a 160 iq, his kids went to Columbia, and cuny kids are not ready for medical school). What I learned from chads prep (the entire course). He's very boastful, and prideful, and seems depressed to be a teacher at york. Takes out on student
He is not your average professor, this is not a class you will get through by looking at slides and memorizing. He teaches theory, and in exams you have to use your understanding to come up with the best answer. He wants to see the knowledge applied. His style of teaching was great for me. His class taught me a lot about myself and I'm so grateful
I think Dr. Lee is the best organic professor at CUNY. I know he can get a little passionate about his kids and the way schooling is here (being unprepared mostly), but I get where he's coming from there. Anyways, he gives you chances to do well and offers extra credit to boost your grade. At the end I learned more from him than other professors.
Prof Lee teaches orgo2 in an intuitive way rather than making u memorize mechanisms. His teaching style is def not for everyone but it's chill compared to other profs. Self study is a must, as he doesn't provide helpful slides or textbook. He gave 2 tests and a final which were curved plus a group quiz every week.
I am suspecting he leaves his own review here and there between semesters. Because of the way it worded and described about his teaching in some of the comments has got me thinking he def. left some of the positive comments about himself. Whts there to brag about having kids who went to Colombia like no one Cares! Everyone living their own life.
