he has a very strong accent which makes him hard to understand. Neverthless, stick with him, its a very easy course.
Great professor. Strong accent but he teach will. You can understand what he is talking about.

an easy A! although its hadr to understand him at first. hes an easy grader and very nice to the students. he gives a lot of little quizzes that are a joke. gives review sheets for the exam and tells you exactly what to study and what will be tested.
he's really nice, very interesting and funny too. highly recommended! A great professor..
all i learned was number-crunching not how to apply stats. explained things (vague) 1x only and move quickly. best to learn evythg from textbk b/c often very frustrating. hw/tests all math. thick accent is NOT a problem at all.
He has a very strong accent and is difficult to understand. He gives many quizes and long homeworks. He is not an easy professor, but you learn in his class. Be prepared to work for an A

can't understand him cause of his accent, can't read his messy handwriting. but very lenient on grading. easy quiz n hw
I cant understand him, and to make it worse his handwritting is just as bad! overall he is funny and seems sweet not too uch work but couple of quizzes...easy course
He has avery heavy accent. He is very nice and sometimes funny. If you do your reading assignments you really don't have to pay attention in class. The work is simple and he gives homework often. But attendence is required, after one unexcused absence he starts taking off points.
HE IS A GOOD PROFESSOR BUT HE HAVE AN ACCENT WHICH MAKES THE CLASS BORING. HIS EXAMS AND QUIZZES ARE EASY. OVERRALL HE IS A GOOD PROFESSOR.
a great teacher
boring and so much work. He didn't pass my proposal for the final paper. thankgoodness he is not teaching anymore classes.
He sucks period. Doesn't know anything about urban life, except what he read in the textbooks. His lectures are mainly on the "underclass and ghetto" He might be funny in a stupid way but that does not excuse from not knowing the subject he was teaching. He is a stickler about attendance.
Very easy course especially if you take it in the summer! He has a heavy accent but is really kind and paitent. A very easy A!!!!
For someone who writes CHICKEN SCRATCH and has a seriously heavy accent, he has some nerve being a hard grader.
OH no! he's such a horrible prof. Even if he didn't write chicken scratch or had a heavy accent, he's still just as horrible. he gives alot of quizzes and short papers, which is a good thing b/c it allows us to keep up with the reading. unfortunately, i learned more on my own then i did from him.
terrible
Prof. OH is a good professor I have learn alot in his classes. He give quizzes once in a while so do your reading. His quizzes are easy and the project too.
He doesn't really read papers, sometimes isa hard grader, and his lectures are just summarizations of the texts, says "fundamentally" so often i've grown to hate the word. But out of class he's a very kind and funny guy! He doesn't like to be thought of as a bad guy, so it's possible to guilt him as a class into changing his mind on tests and stuff

learned a lot.
I don't understand what people have against this professor. I think his teaching is very straight foward and the work is graded fairly. He teaches right out of the book so if you can't understand his essay, you know what he is referring to even though he has a heavy accent. Homework & essays are easy and he is very sweet & he listenst 2 the class.
Yes, he has an accent. Yes, he gives out a 5 pg syllabus. But you won't really know how he is until you take his class. The accent wears in and the 5 pg syllabus...let's just say it can become 3pgs. The work load surely gets easier and his exams are fair. Don't drop the class cuz of his accent...that's insane!
Even though his lectures are straight from the texts, he required way too much reading, and his syllabus was too ambitious. He is a fair grader and even made our in-class mid-term a take-home one. His homeworks, quizzes, the mid-term/final, and attendance were all 20% of the grade so you have to do everything or loose a full 20% of your grade.
He scared me at first w/ his syllabus BUT he turned out to be really easy and sweet. A lot of reading but you'll for sure benefit from that! He's nice!
he's very hard to understand because his accent is so thick. However, he's an easy grader and he's really nice
the worst professor in hunter college. he is rude and disrespectful. he gives too much homework and gets angry when you ask him to explain certain things. i tried to be patient and uunderstandig of his accent but then he crossed his limit. do yourself a favor and do not take his class. HORRIBLE
He's a fair grader. As long as you do your work, you'll get an A. The term paper was too easy and I didn't learn a lot from doing the paper...I took him in the summer and we had less work than he'd give in the fall or spring semesters. He's funny even when he doesn't try to be and he's respectful. I got an A.
I do not see how people keep complaining about this professor. I had him twice and he is such a fair grader. The papers are easy and he grades more on your progress during the term than exam grades.
Prof. Oh No
make sure to bring an interpreter or a translator to his class because you won't understand anything he'll say
His accent may be confusing at times but if you pay attention, you'll understand what he is saying within the context of the lecture. Encourages participation, thoughts, opinions; respectful and helpful. This is a teacher for only the serious sociology students, not kids who don't want to work for their grade.
This professor challenges you to go above and beyond. If he sees you're serious about your work and making effort, you will do well. Don't expect and easy A, you have to work for it, but it was rewarding for me because I actually learned a lot in his class. He's very approachable and willing to help you understand hard concepts.
I liked him, and enjoyed his class. He is hard to understand because of his accent. Hes an easy graded, his tests are essay questions but if you know your stuff youll do fine. Hes a nice guy can be boring at times adn
Prof. Oh thinks too much of himself. when ever you try to ask him a question, he will tell you that he is a scholar and knows what he's saying. in addition, he is not a nice person with a disgusting personality. AVOID and take someone else
Thick accent, boring class, a lot of work. Not the worst teacher but not an easy one by far.
He doesnot know english, point blank , He knows alot of information but its very hard to understand him and your head is hurting at the end of the class trying to understand him. He needs to work on his english.
His class is interesting and topic is very hot. I like his class and i understand very weel. However, his grading is not fair though i got a good gread, my final grade was not reflected wht I got from the quize and tHE exam. His final greading is very uspicious and not clear. He doens't treat student equally,he seems have haterate feeling for specif
he is not fair at all.he sound fine, but he is very tricky and unfair for grading.ge gives curve for the students who didn't do well for the exam but the students who did well.If you want to keep good GPA, you souldn't take his class though topic is interesting.
he is the worst professorto take.he doesn't answere the questions clearly in the class and very strict, should say mean for greading. he has already decided your grade. Once he doesn't like you, he tries to take off the point form your essy with any expalanation. He is very unfair. He manupulated the rade ab=d give you the one he wants, not based on
He is a very good professor and negotiable. If you pay attention in his class, you can learn a lot. He is a nice guy.
He has a thick accent, but he is comprendible if you try to listen. I wouldn't recommend taking his course because it's difficult to remain interested and focused in class. He does take into consideration the needs of his students and pushed back our paper. His midterm was completely unfair, but he gave people a better score than they deserved.
His class is great. He is an approachable person and willing to help his students. Although he has a thick acent, it is not difficult to understand him.
His class is great. He is an approachable person and willing to help his students. Although he has a thick acent, it is not difficult to understand him.
this professor is very good he is very dedicate to his students. in addition he is fair in giving grades i enjoy his class very much.thanks professor.
the worst professor in hunter college. he is rude and disrespectful. he gives too much homework and gets angry when you ask him to explain certain things. i tried to be patient and understanding of his accent but then he crossed his limit. do yourself a favor and do not take his class. -_-
Terrible, could not understand him because of his thick accent.
he is nice and helpful
very nice prof. Had a thick accent but as long as you do the work, you will be fine. Very helpful and willing to understand his students.Very friendly also
Oh..No!! This was such a frustrating class. Yes, he does seem like a nice guy and really smart and I didn't find his accent that hard but he communicates his knowledge poorly. I wouldn't take this class if you need clarity and order. Questions on take home final didn't fit a 200 level course. Lots of reading too. Worked really hard for a lousy B.
he gives us too many hws, and it is so hard to understand what he is talking. not clear explanation.
First day of classes I was very upset about the very thick accent, but got used to it quickly. He's a little crazy, but can be funny. I'm a bit of a slacker normally, but did my readings (which i thought were interesting) and did well. Gave a few too many HW's but they were easy. If you're not interested in the subject, the lectures may suck..
I though he is an extremely nice professor. who is willing to help you if you feel lost, which does not occur if you read the materials. I like him. The thick accent got on my nerves the first time i took his class, but he is not incomprehensible. I recommend him.this is my second time taking his class and i am looking foward to another A. take him
best teacher ever. so funny, helpful and although he has an accent, it is understandable. He is such a sweet teacher
He is very helpful and approachable. Prof Oh is one of the best teachers at Hunter College. No one can get an easy A in his class
Awesome professor!!! Very amusing and makes going to class fun. He has a great lecture and stays on topic. You read through a few books in his class (although we were behind and only read two) but it goes by quickly. The literature he assigns is easy to understand if you have an interest in the class. Recommended!
Professor Oh is very helpful and understanding. Take a class with him and you won't regret it. He doest overload you with work like other professors do. Great professor!
Professor Oh is really a nice guy as long as you get used to his accent. His research class is easy A class for most students. Justt study his note for quzzis & midterm. The 10+ pages long Research paper is a breeze since he is not tough grader on paper. Final is just a copycat of research paper, sometimes it's take-home.:)
Professor Oh is a very nice guy. He has a heavy accent but is very smart & communicates his knowledge to the best of his ability. He is extremely fair & understanding & genuinely wants all of his students to get As. He wants to see that you are trying your best & getting something out of the class.
Like everyone else mentioned, he has a really strong accent! It can be hard to understand him at times but he's incredibly smart and I learned a lot from his class. He's overall an easy grader and doesn't assign too much work. Overall, very good professor, I'm taking another class with him next year.
Professor Oh really knows what he's talking about and he's really passionate and enthusiastic about what he teaches. There's a midterm and a final, along with a final paper and a presentation. He likes to encourage participation by asking everyone their input. Funny at times too.
He's a nice guy, a good professor who expects his students to do what they need to do. He's straightforward and fair with a cheerful demeanor. Overall a solid guy.
He is a very, very, very sweet and understanding man. Workload was a bit much for a non writing intensive course, but nothing that wasn't manageable. A take-home final, midterm, research paper, presentation and a whole slew of papers. Expects a lot of work, but what redeems him is the fact that he is the cutest and nicest guy. TAKE HIM.
globalism and nationalism- not much assignments but a long research paper which requires a presentation. several mini-presentations as well. he seems nice, but when i didn't receive a textbook, he gave me an attitude in the class.
Smart guy, not too hard of a class, but I had such a hard time understanding him during lectures.
I've taken Dr. Oh three times. He is so nice and understanding. Yes, there is a ton of reading but it's a sociology course so what do you expect? He really cares about his students well-being and wants you to succeed.
He is great guy, but never clear. His tests, instructions, and requirements are not so clear. He requires personal experiences in your writings but does not relay this information clearly. Grading structure is non-apparent and not clear; It changes as you go along. Clarity is everything so don't waste your money and time. Do yourself a solid.
Prof Oh seems very nice but he is so hard to understand. I asked to repeat the homework or if it was posted online and he told me i should know because he just said it and it wouldnt be posted anywhere... its frustrating because i cant always understand what he says. The homeworks and tests have a lot to do with the census and less with substance
oh is great! super understanding and even funny sometimes. i got used to his accent after a while. however sometimes i feel like he doesn't answers questions when asked. he would just rear it into a different direction. his always gives reviews or hints on test
Nice guy, but pretty boring. It's not all his fault, since the subject is incredibly boring. You have to be very clear in essays and exams to get a good grade. All in all, not bad, but not great either.
I and most the students were very confused through out the class. He didn't give a lot of homework assignments but when he did he wasn't really specific on what he wanted but it was ok because hes not a tough grader. He's pretty funny without trying .DO READ ALL THE ASSIGNED READINGS! They will be on your midterm and final so take notes!
You must read, he's big on participation and will assign random presentations or put the spotlight on you to speak. The essay assignments were easy. Quizzes are easy but midterm and final are hard/time consuming to study for. He doesn't follow the syllabus and he isn't clear so get ready for him to make up stuff as the course goes.
Professor Oh is very friendly and truly wants his students to succeed. However, having him as a professor can be frustrating, as he often rushes through certain class material and lacks clarity in his answers that students ask. I took his class in 3 weeks and he kept delay deadlines for assignments. This led everything to be rushed at the end.
Took him for Research Methods, his lectures are confusing and students complain about his accent, which is not even that bad. The exams are fair since there's a review sheet, but he puts a lot of material on the review sheet and asks less than a quarter on exam. To understand the concepts read the textbook, which is even more confusing than the lec
Professor Oh is unclear and defensive when asked to clarify. This does not make for positive moral. We were all very unhappy with this class.
I love this Professor because he was very clear and well prepare all the times.
He's not very easy to communicate with which can be hard. Not only does he not really listen to what you're saying when you try to participate, but he's hard to understand when lecturing. He really wanted the course to be based around class discussion, which I would've liked, but he just couldn't make that happen.
He's a really cool professor. One thing that I would warn you is that he has an accent so it can be difficult to understand him sometimes. The lectures, which he goes over in depth, are in the exam so pay attention and beware. Two books are required also in the exam if no one participates, he will call out random students.
I enjoyed taking Prof. Oh's class in urban sociology. He was for the most part clear on what he wanted and provided the instructions for assignments on blackboard. I would not ask him something he went over in class at the end of class because he would call you out. He's big on class participation and attendance.
This is the third lecture of the semester and I am growing worried about how the rest of the semester will go...I have never had this much difficulty understanding an accent before but he is quite difficult to follow. It takes a LOT of focus, and even still some entire sentences are incomprehensible. Not helpful for already boring material
His accent is incredibly difficult to understand. You have to concentrate extra hard in his class. The material is really boring and he is not clear with his grading criteria. He is constantly changing deadlines.
It's an easy A if you know how to skim books. If you love to procrastinate, he'll let you off easy. You also kinda get used to the accent after two months.
Good Professor, sense of humor, easy to approach and talk to. The class can be lecture heavy at time but that depends on the students participation. Prepare to read, but it is nothing hard. Ask questions and talk to Prof Oh and you will be on your way to a good grade. Midterm, 5-6 assignments, a few quizzes, term paper+presentation, and a final.
The professor is lenient on due dates. He definitely makes the coursework interesting in terms of humor.
He gives mini assignments (homework) throughout the course and makes students talk in front of the whole class (everyone does it on their own specific date he assigns) based on the readings. He said he gives pop quizzes but in my course he didnt give a quiz. He gave a midterm and final and a paper. Hes lenient on due dates.
He was honestly one of the best teachers Ive taken
This professor is extremely unorganized. The syllabus doesn't match up to the class sessions. He announces things in class and refuses to post most assignments on blackboard as a punishment to those who are absent. He is almost impossible to understand, very heavy Korean accent. However, he is nice and if you do the work and study you can get an A.
He's a nice enough guy, but he talks fast and doesn't like to repeat himself, as well as not really posting anything on blackboard besides the bare minimum. The readings were frequent but not that difficult to understand. He asked us to get a textbook, but only used it in the first third of the class.
Professor Oh is super nice and sweet! He is also very understanding if you reach out to him. Although he does assign readings, a lot of them you can just skim and get the basics. As for exams, he allows you to bring index cards. You can literally write WHATEVER you want. He also does reviews before exams.
I absolutely love his class and teaching methods. He wants students to show up for his class and therefore doesn't upload stuff online. He tells the students in class information that will help them on the exams and lets us use index cards during the exams with as much information as we could fit. Hes so understanding and is flexible with due dates
He's so intelligent and caring! Super lenient with due dates/grading/etc and encourages everyone to open up and participate (you can tell he wants to see his students succeed.) He's so thoughtful as well (reached out to me w/ several research opportunities bc he knew that's my passion). He's a true gem of Hunter's Sociology department
It is very hard to understand what he is saying. He has a heavy accent, speaks slow and grammatically incorrect. He stumbles in his speech. The class is not interactive and is boring. He is a nice professor and he is easy on grading and tests, but you have to learn on your own because of his heavy accent.
He's very passionate. Try to pay attention in his class. He gives clear step-by-step written instructions on assignments. Make a group chat with ur peers, because he likes knowing y'all are communicating. Be4 exams he tells u which readings u should focus on and what questions he'll ask and usually askes for 6-7 sentences on the short answers.
This professor is a 10/10. very light class, let us have the final online it was so easy. I got sick towards the last 2-3 weeks of the semester and couldn't make it to class, the professor was super understanding and he is lenient with due dates and extensions.
This is 4 MHC150. Prof is such a nice dude. MHC150 isn't hard at all, but the Prof rlly cares about us and is super lenient. Make sure you have fun during the group projects. Start the paper early and come to class. Be nice to Prof too he's a really good dude and really means well. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.
Took him for MHC150. Great professor, really considerate of his students. Though he does assign a good amount of readings, he's mainly looking for your own interpretation. If you are struggling with assignments (like the research paper), reach out to him. Very friendly during office hours. Clearly knowledgeable of the material. Would take again.
The Professor is really nice. This past semester he gave us an extended deadline of one week for our final paper. He was pretty lenient and understanding. We had a group project this semester and it wasn't very difficult to do. There is some readings that can be a little difficult to read. Overall a pretty enjoyable class and I would recommend.
Professor Oh is very kind and understanding he does leave a lot of readings and two group projects.
Dr.Oh is an amazing professor very kind and understanding! He does assign many readings for the course, and he as well assigns two group projects and one independent project.
Talking to Professor Oh is like trying to get a young child to focus on a task; he doesn't listen, and he doesn't answer the questions you ask. He thinks it's funny to pretend that he will be giving a pop quiz or additional homework. This class had the potential to be fascinating, but became tedious and infuriating because of him.
This class has to be the most confusing and stressful I've ever taken, the workload is extreme but he is nice. 8-10 page term paper, group presentation after every reading for 30 minutes, For the midterm, if you wanted to know why your grade was not as expected he goes "If you come to me I'll find a way to find more mistakes" and laughs about it.
Professor Oh was an interesting experience, to put it nicely. He's not the worst, but he can be very disorganized, confusing, & frustrating. It was a challenge trying to understand what he wanted from us. He is very impatient and frequently cuts students off. I'm certain I passed, but I would never want to take a class with him again. Be wary.
It was tough trying to understand this professor because his accent was super heavy and he was such a tough grader. His grading criteria aren't really clear, he does not offer extra credit. He would also scare you about quizzes that he didn't give anyway. Half the time he's just trying to get students to attend class. Not cool.
Dr. Oh is so funny and an awesome professor. Most of this course is comprised of student group presentations on the readings which makes the semester fly by. There are a few papers, including a longer paper for the midterm and final. Overall this was a very interesting class about NYC and he is a very caring professor.
Overall a fine class if you actually read all the things he assigns. His disorganization can make content seem confusing or simply missed if you weren't paying attention to what he says. Attendance definitely matters as more than 2 absences without a note is considered excessive and will lower your attendance grade.
This guy is great. Hes so funny and has great advice. Yeah he has an accent, but hes extremely knowledgeable and kind. Just follow along closely, keep your attendance up and youll be fine! He deserves a much higher rating imo
AVOID. He is flat out incompetent at his job - every class past mid Oct was group presentations. I had an issue with my group and he brushed me off while clearly demonstrating he didn't understand what my issue actually was. The only question he asks on assignments is "what is the main idea? do you agree?" which is not college level analysis.
I understand where the reviews are coming from, he definitely is a professor that wants you to participate and attendance is mandatory. However, he is very understanding and kind if you take out the time to reach out to him, I missed my final presentation he still gave me half credits because I attended all his sessions and participated in class.
