Good professor and a really fun class. You won't be bored in his class!
I agree his lectures are great and interesting, but he grades the class upon 3 tests which are difficult. I am gonna have to retake the class and I always did well at philosophy!
Pretty decent prof. Class based on three tests, have to write a lot of papers in which you get full credit if you write anything. He knows how to argue, which is important for a phil class.
Very persuasive arguing style. You'll learn a lot in this class and you'll have fun doing it. Great teacher, really makes you think about your beliefs.
One of the most boring classes I have ever taken. Stay away from this guy. He is a teacher that is in is own make believe little world. His tests are tough and the class subject is not that interesting.
Very Interesting Class, taught by a good teacher. I really like this class.
Very funny teacher, wierd looking, but he really knows what he's talking about. Tests arn't bad, some studying.
Lectures everyday, usually boring. Hard tests, one of the type that feels the need to confuse you on every question. There are only 100 points all semester so don't screw up on a test. 75 points are tests and 25 from papers.
This is a very interesting course. His lectures were always good. Do the damn papers. They arent worth much but there are next to no points in this class. it is an easy A if you actually try.
Confusing class and very hard. He tried to make things interesting. Tests are very hard. ALso do the PAPERS!!
Pretty smart guy...usually had insightful things to say, yet sometimes he didn't seem to "get it". He was a little pompous, but in a funny way- hey if you give dumb answers to questions you deserve it. And whats up with the mullet?
Pretty good prof. Interesting class. Tests are pretty hard, but if you study they're okay.

I don't like him. His lectures are boring. He just stand behind the desk and reads from the book. He's not too respectful of students. There isn't much homework that's the ONLY good thing about the class.
This class is so boring....just one big argument...do not take it unless you absolutly have to and then when you do you don't need to buy the book!!!
I just don't understand this teacher. I went to neary every class, I studied and did whatever readings i needed to do and still pulled off only a 'D' in his course. To add insult to injury, I really enjoyed the class (until i saw my grade) DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!
I didnt read the book yet still Aced the tests. EVERYTHING is off notes. 2 point papers every week (i just retyped the notes word for word & received full credit). If you thought this class was hard, you're probably not very good at anything else in life either.
Intersting class. Show up, write down what he writes on the board, type it up, turn it in and thats all the homework you have. Very sarcastic, and very funny. If you cant think outside the box you wont like him. Would take him again in a heart beat.

Jordan was very sarcastic and rude. The material was okay and class would have been tolerable if a different prof. would have taught it!!
Good Flow.. do the papers...tests are somewhat hard.
JERK! That sums it up. This class is the worst ever. You can study all you want and you won't do well. His tests have more than one answer, so you get a lot wrong. Only 100 points total for the semester, so failing is easy to do.
dont take this class unless you NEED to... hes a jerk, tests are very hard. I went every day, took all the notes from the class, and still got a D.

I just started the class, he seems like a an arrogant jerk so far
I only attended the first class before dropping out because he scared the crap out of me. he was very intimidating and didn't seem like he would be respectful of the student's arguements. i came to learn, not to argue, so i dropped the class.
He is interestingly sarcastic. The class is interesting and really easy. The papers are a breeze. I took my first test on Friday and found it to be way easier than i had anticipated.
Hes a very passionate teacher, but he tends to loose his students with all of the big words he uses and then does not put it in terms we can understand. I do not see him as a jerk nor do i thing that the grading is unfair
I really enjoyed both this class and this professor. I was really surprised when I heard so many people didn't like him. The topics are somewhat controversial and he always managed to present them in an interesting (witty/sarcastic) and unbiased manner. You must do the two point papers! It makes a difference. Take notes, tests were not hard.
This guy is great. A lot of people don't like him because he is sarcastic and tells you when you are wrong. If you are a mature adult, his jokes are funny. I would definetly take him again. Don't take him if you can't handle the truth.
Pretty good teacher. The 2 point papers and the tests are pretty easy
Horrible, Horrible, Horrible, Horrible, Horrible, Horrible, Horrible, DO YOU GET MY DRIFT.....avoid at all costs, if you want to fail, take this professor, speaks way over your head with his material and is Horrible, Horrible, Horrible, Horrible, Horrible, Horrible, Horrible, and did I mention Horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!
This class was very interesting, but turned out to be terrible! He is very unclear about EVERYTHING and the tests are extremely hard! He is very arrogant and sarcastic, I wouldn't ever take a class with him again. If you want to fail for sure, Take this class! He is a unfair grader, you can try with your all and still fail!
i was really excited about this class but the first and second day i knew it was going to suck...i enjoyed the topics we discussed. i didnt like him that much he is very blunt and makes you very reluctant to ask questions.
The reviews that claim Jordan is arrogant or a poor teacher are totally exaggerated. I never got that impression. If you're a student who spends more time at the bar than at class, avoid him. If you've killed over half your brain cells with a bong, avoid him. If you enjoy wit and challenging your preconceptions, you'll enjoy his class.
This class started off pretty interesting. The 2 point papers are easy and all you have to do is write word for word what he says in the lectures. The tests are the hardest multiple chioce tests ever, even if you know the materirial there seems to be two right answers all the time. Make sure you go to class or you will not pass!!
Was very rude and pushed his views on others.
this class is easy but even if you study hard you do not do wall.
really knew what he was talking about. you absolutely need to be in class or you won't do well. the exams are the hardest tests I've ever taken, as well... the phrasing of the questions is just confusing and long. you know where he stands on each topic, but he tries not to push it on you too much. overall a very interesting class.
He makes the tests harder than they need to be. It's an intersting class. Make sure you actually go to class everyday or there's no way you'll pass.
I think he's a good professor, kind of annoying at times! His tests are pretty hard and you have to STUDY and read everything. Must go to class EVERYDAY in order to pass this class. Paper due every Friday on lecture notes, and if you miss a class and don't get the info, you won't get the full 2 points on the paper. I enjoyed taking his class.
Very condescending.
WORST CLASS, WORST PROF, DONT TAKE IT, RUN AWAY FROM THIS CLASS, THE SCHOOL SHOULD GIVE MONEY BACK FOR ANYONE DUPPED INTO TAKING THIS CLASS.
i bombed the first 2 exams and i turned ina paper every friday and i must have done good on the last exam cause i ended up with a C in the class. i slept most of the time. Its a interesting class but boring and by far the hardest mult. choice tests i've ever seen
The class was harder than it seemed. I went into tests and left tests thinking I had everything down, but ended up getting C's. The questions are tricky. He's availible to help you, but hard to talk to because of his bad attitude. Although he's a jerk, he's fine from a distance. Just don't say something you can't back up; he'll rip you apart.
Basically an arrogant ass who gets his kicks out of making his students look and sound like ten year olds high on crack when they state anything. Then he wonders why no one talks in his class. The actual topics are interesting, but the way he presents himself is often distracting and annoying.
hated him
He's a jerk and his class is very difficult, there's only 100 points (3 tests, like 12 papers)and the tests are ridiculously hard.I took this class 2 times-you really need to take amazing notes and study like crazy for the tests.he tells you everything you need to know, you just need to know how to study it!Don't argue with him either, you wont win
Have to write papers every week on the material covered in class so basically you have to attend, but the papers are easy points. The tests on the other hand are really hard! He said that there would be a definate right answer in the multiple choice but the questions seem very vague. Hard to study for the tests.
This guy will want to make you die. His tests will make you want to die. The hours of homework will kill you.
easiest phil class i have ever taken. he tells you exactly what will be on the tests and no comprehensive finals. papers are done weekly but you just have to rewrite your notes and helps to keep the information in your mind for the tests. can seem like a jerk but super easy class.
the tests werent that difficult u just cant over think the questions, go with your gut and you will do fine! Also u have to pay attention in class, u cant expect to fully understand if u dont listen. As for the papers go its easiest if u just write what u talked about in class the same day, it takes like 15 min cus it is fresh in your mind
Although I felt I was learning a lot, it was difficult to portray this throught his tests. I worked hard to attend class and do readings, but still ended up with a low grade, and he acted as though I was lying and didnt seem to care.
Go to class and listen. Write a very easy paper every week about the lecture. I only needed to study 10 min to get and B+/A- on his test and when I study an hour for the last I got 100%. The class is strait forward. Carnut teaches the matarial and you learn it. This professer can be taken without fear.
He is disorganized, disrespectful to students, not knowledgable about the subject, rude and incredibly arrogant. If you can get out of taking him, do it.
If you value your time and GPA, run away from this course. Dont believe these people who pulled of some kind of grade. Tests are ridiculus and written to be intentionally deceptive(prof. actually admitted this). On a positive note the class is interesting.
Possibly the worst experience I have ever had with a professor. His little speech on the first day of class went something like this: "I don't allow make-ups. Ever. You can come up and tell me a really sad story and I'll listen and probably even appear sympathetic, but I still won't let you make it up." He failed me for a really assinine reason.
The class was interesting. He only seems condescending to make a point! He argues every topic both ways and he fights objecters just to prove the point in the reading. I only read one reading and still got a good grade. The test can get confusing but if you are a competent person and listened at all in class you will do good.
At first he might seem to be a boring, lecture-style professor who will argue any point you try to make. He's not really. He oozes awesomeness. He will question anything because it makes you think and can stimulate discussion. Good, no? Just show up and put in a modest amount of effort. I've heard good things from friends about office visits, too.
Jordan is a cool professor; although he's extremely arrogant and makes the exams way harder than they need to be. GO TO CLASS, take notes, and READ and you should do okay. Office visits are helpful too if you're confused.
He is a very intelligent proff. who knows what he is talking about. People may confuse his intelligence for arrogence, but it is not. He is very passionate and makes you really think. You must go to class everyday. There is a paper due every Friday but it is very easy, just write of what you learned for the week. Notes are neccessary! GREAT PROFF!!
Seems rude the first few days of class but he is an okay professor. Can be funny; really knows what he is talking about. Pretty easy class if you show up and pay attention.
Jordan gave a lot of energy to the class. I could tell he has a great love for his work, and really tries to get across to the students. His tests were hard, but I am a college student and I should have been a better one. Best about him is he is just TOO CUTE!!! VERY EASY ON THE EYES!!!!
At first, he definately seemed like an obnocious spaz, but after a couple days he isnt so bad. He's funny and very smart. He's great at teaching, very clear. The only thing you need to do is go to class and take notes. There is a paper due every friday but all you have to do is turn your notes into complete sentences. Great professor
Phil 212 is sooo interesting! If you show up and take notes you will be fine. The tests are a little tricky but if you turn in your weekly paper (summarize your notes) that can really sway your grade. Great teacher!
1) He is VERY hairy and in desperate need of a new hairdo. Not cute. 2) You have a total of 12 papers, 2 points each. All you have to do is type up your noted and you'll have 2 points. Tests are VERY tricky, just make sure to study the study guide well, at least so you understand who talked about what and what laws, etc.
You "textbook" costs aobut 20 dollars, don't suggest buying it. If you takes good notes and study them and the study guide, you should do ok. Just make sure to not use ur cellphone in class. He hates cellphones and lectures you about them constantly. DOn't suggest taking this class as a general like I did. He also likes to contradict what you say.
Great guy, Very smart. Easy grade if your mature enough for college. Idiots sour him it seems.
Teacher doesn't like anyone else's opinion if it differs from his. The tests are very hard and he does not grade easily at all, for a 100 level class there is too much work and way too hard of tests and papers. do not take this class with this teacher very disappointed when I learned that I was only going to learn about Christianity and Islam.
I thought he was a very nice prof. This is an ethics class and it is very hard to tell what his own opinions are about the topics covered in class. There are 12 papers 2 pts each. All they are are your notes put into paper form. Super easy. The exams are a little difficult but he gives you study guides for them, study them & you will do just fine.
Pretty good professor. You put your weekly notes into a paper form at the end of the week. Super easy to get full credit as long as you were there and took pretty good notes. His tests are pretty hard. He gives out study guides and if you study pretty thoroughly you should do just fine. You can tell that he really enjoys teaching this class.
Lots of notes but clear lectures with class participation. Have to write a paper every week but is 100% graded on content, not length or grammar etc. Don't need the book although it is only $20. Tests kind of tricky but are multiple choice scantrons.
Curnutt is absolutely hilarious. Make no mistake, if you wish to pass his classes you'll need to show up and pay attention. As long as you can handle that much, you will enjoy his classes. He is great at explaining philosophical views and is really smart. He can come off kind of arrogant but you get past it. Nice curve on the final grade. Cool guy.
I have had other phil teachers, and i must say he is the best. It is not a particularly fun class but he knows his stuff. If you go to class, and write his papers you will get a b or an a.
Interesting class
I would never dare approach him or ask him a question, I try to make sure I am not noticed in that class because he often singles out people and is rude. Don't even think about bringing a friend to sit in on the class, I have seen him rip them apart too, asking if they have money and taking a vote whether we should let them stay or not.
This professor is by far the WORST professor I have ever had. He makes you feel dumb about any opinion you have and is degrading to everyone. Hands down rudest person I have ever met and the tests are near impossible. Has been married a few times.. I wonder why.
I HATED this class, especially towards the end of the year. It is so monotonous and everyday is the same. To describe him in one word is mean. He is extremely anti-technology, so don't even think of bring a computer or a...cell phone in his class. It's too bad he is the only professor who teaches 212. Good luck.
he talks about interesting topics, but when i went to him to get help on my exams, he didnt help me at all. He said its very rare for people to get perfect scores on his exams too. i wouldnt recomend this professor!
Very suprised to see how many people dislike him so much. He is a very smart man, with wit. He is knowledgable on many topics, and people may feel he is ripping them apart, but what I see is him trying to make the students think. Can he be rude, yes, but it is also rude for people to sleep, talk, or have ringing cell phones in the class.
If you come to class, pay attention, take notes and participate when needed, you will do fine in this class. He is a great professor who teaches with humor, sometimes satire, however,if you are lazy, rude, use a cell phone when you shouldnt, talk or sleep, your going to hate him. But keep in mind, these are things you should NOT be doing anyway!
Good professor, very intelligent however if you do not know what you are talking about or sleeping using your cell phone etc. can be very rude. Relatively easy class, type notes into papers every week with moderately easy exams.
This is not an easy class. Go to class, take notes, write papers, do NOT text, talk, or sleep. He is very intelligent, and he expects 50 min. of respect. Give it to him. STUDY for your exams, and use his review sheets. The exams will be tricky and wordy, so study hard, and pay attention. Overall, it was a very interesting class.
Although everyone bashes on this prof, he is actually an excellent teacher. He may act rather brash at times and single out people's opinions, but that is because he treats the class as a group discussion (if you don't want to be singled out, keep your opinions to yourself). Actually very approachable. Also, very funny professor.
Very Smart. I hate writing papers and every week we had to write a two page paper, but it was actually easy because you basically rewrite your notes. Only a 100 points in the class. A paper is 2 and tests are 25-30 points. So be sure not to miss any points. No quizes just three tests and papers. B is reachable, but I still do not like him.
Everyone claims this class is difficult, but you just have to go into the exams with the mentality that there is ONLY ONE right answer and you will be fine. Don't second guess your instincts!
He knows what he's talking about. As long as you go to class and take notes, the tests will be a breeze.
Very smart professor. The class is only worth 100 points so turn in every 2 point paper!! they are easy just copying down notes from class. Attendance is not mandatory but you need the info from class for your papers. Tests are kinda difficult, but if you study you will be fine! Do not text, talk, eat, or sleep. 5 points off and he is serious.
I did not like this professor. Tests are very condescending and he tries to trick you. Other than the trickiness, the tests aren't difficult material, you learn it all in class.
Curnett is a great professor who really cares about the material. Most important thing is this class is to have an open mind. There is no right/wrong answer when it comes to concepts and he argues both sides evenly. If you need help ask him to explain after class. He makes his own book its only $30 but he goes over everything in class.
Very easy class. Composed of 100 points; 3 tests and 1 paper every week. The papers are a summary of what he lectures in class. He gives you study guides for the tests and if you study your notes based on the study guide an A is very possible.
I missed the exam to take care of my sick child. No make up is given, no excuses. Another girl asked to make up the test because she was at her fathers funeral. He said she could have made up the funeral program she showed him. One test is 30% of the grade so the highest possible score was a D. I was an A student prior to choosing to be a father
Class discussion is a daily routine, and your classmates will either make or break your class. Exams make up a greater portion of your grade (88%). Do not take any of his courses if you are egotistical, as he covers various sides on an issue. Almost all material on exams will be discussed in class, so that is the only consequence of skipping.
If you think Curnutt is trying to trick you, then Philosophy isn't where you should be.. He is not being egotistical, he is trying to help you acknowledge there are other viewpoints on a topic and that there is not necessarily a "right answer". If you ask him for help he WILL help you. But you have to put forth some effort on your part as well.
Only took this course to cover two goal areas and it was a mistake. Taking two separate classes would have been a better option. The professor is a strict grader and expects a lot of work to be done. This class was the worst I have taken. Attendance was not mandatory, therefore everyone skipped out on the useless lectures. Would not take again.
The class wasn't hard-like people say, weekly paper (1-2 pages to show you understand your notes, no big deal) and really you don't have to join the discussions. DO NOT TAKE OUT YOUR PHONE! He will publicly embarrass you. The class wasn't hard, I just couldn't stand the prof. I found him condescending and wish I didn't have to waste my time.
Worst teacher I had. Doesn't care even when you make a huge effort. Won't take anything with him again.
This class is based out of just 100 points. There is a weekly paper due that you basically just type your notes up for. Not a hard class but the tests can be hard because the questions are worded weird just because it's a philosophy class. This is required for nursing students and this is the only prof. Great teacher just not such a great class.
Interesting topics! Have an open mind. 100 points total. Don't skip class, or miss a paper, the papers you turn in every week are a summary of your lecture notes. Don't text, eat, or sleep, he will publicly embarrass you! He gives study guides but the tests are wordy and confusing, don't second guess yourself!
He knows what he is talking about, but there is a paper due every friday on the lectures/notes in class that week. Has 3 exams the whole semester and they are hard! He is very strict and will embarrass you in front of the class if you bring food, your phone, or a laptop. He tries to be funny... but sometimes gets off topic.
I enjoyed his lectures, but not his exams. He has a very crude sense of humor that is so bad I couldn't help but laugh out of embarrassment. As long as you turn in all your papers and work through the study guides he gives before tests, you should be fine! :)
All the class consisted of was 1 1/2 hour lectures, a two point paper due every week, and three 30 point test - final grade was out of 100 points. If you are not a good test taker STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROF. The test can be very difficult and it will mess with your mind. Prof Curnutt is a good professor but he can be very rude and make you feel dumb.
He's a really great professor and I really enjoyed taking his class. He's not bias on any of the subject matters in the class and he really is clear about the grading process and how he grades things. Overall I really enjoyed taking this class and I would take it again. :)
There is a paper due every Friday on the material you covered the week before, the papers are not hard if you go to class but it still sucks that they are only worth 2 points. You can not be on your phone in class, if he catches you he calls you out in front of everyone. Class is not mandatory but if you don't go there is no other way to get notes.
If Philosophy isn't your thing, find another subject to take. He's only an effective professor, if you & he have similar values. He can be condescending and his views can be challenged to no avail. If you 2 have different viewpoints, you may be prone to skip classes but then you'll fail the class because you'll have no notes.
Some may like this class, but personally his teaching style was not for me. His lectures are all over the place, and it's very difficult to understand what he is trying to say. Papers are due every single week, which are only worth two points each. Exams are very difficult. Very hard class to pass.
If you bring food, bring enough for the rest of class, just to surprise him. The tests require thought, unlike any other I've taken at this campus. It's fun, but difficult. Watch some Thomas Frank test-taking strategies before taking one of this guy's classes. He's serious about what he says. Sometimes goes on tangents that last for 20+ mins.
If you're the type of student who just wants to pass you classes and you really don't care if you learn anything, don't take this class. If you like to learn and are willing to put effort into your college experience, this class is a piece of cake. Just go to class and take good notes and study well for the exams and you shouldn't have a problem.
Unclear and unsophisticated. You HAD to be in class to get the notes to study off of and write a paper every week on it. If you ask a question in this class he will be sarcastic or laugh at it. The study guide was basically ALL of your notes and there is quite a lot. The tests are VERY complex and hard to understand what is being asked.
I've gotten 3 As in 3 of his classes. It's really not that hard. Record his lectures to go back and listen to and take very detailed notes you will be fine. The classes are typically a total of 100 points. People slack on doing the papers that are worth 2 points each. If you miss all the papers you'll drop down to 76 points and have a C.
He knows lots about philosiphy, forces you you think from different points of view which is super cool. However, hes rude to students inside & outside of class. He thinks we know nothing. But you will learn a lot from him if you show up to class!! I would take another class of his. HATES CELL PHONES, DONT PULL THEM OUT!!! Keep track of your points
class is only out of 100 points. 10 papers worth 2-3 points each, each covering what happened in the previous 2-3 classes. miss something, lose a point off the whole paper. always has to be right. hates phones to the point where i took off my apple watch and zipped it up in my backpack along with my phone. three exams, very difficult
DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE IN CLASS. He hates phones. There are no good ways to study for his exams. GOOD LUCK only 3 exams.
He lectures each class and at the end of the week a paper is due on what was talked about. These 12 papers are 1/4th of your grade - as well as three 25 question tests. If you miss one question or format a paper wrong you will lose points. The papers are only worth 2 points each. He is rude when you address him and put away your phone.
Attendance is not mandatory but there is a paper due each week on material learned in class. If the paper is missing any content from the week it is an automatic one-point drop out of two possible points. There are only 100 points in the grade book. He makes the class unnecessarily hard, but as long as you put in the effort you should be fine.
This professor. well let's just say he teaches for the money. Show up and pass. Take notes, study them for exams and you'll do fine. However, as far as a professor goes, I would rather eat dirt then ever hear this professor lecture ever again. He made students cry. I'll leave it at that.
Class is going to kick your ass but is overall a good experience. Although he can be a bit weird at times hes a charming and overall understanding guy. If you can get through all the work you will be glad you took the class at the end.
Professor only lectures in class so be prepared. Longest 50 minutes of your life. The quizzes are difficult and the wording is confusing, so sometimes it feels like a guessing game. The Professor gives off a "I'm better than you" vibe so it gets tiring listening to him talk. As long as you have all the notes from class, the weekly papers are easy.
Curnutt is an interesting professor. Lectures engaging and he wants to make you think. He's a nice guy and isn't an idealogue stereotypical ethics professor. 3 Exams, easy and curved, each make up 25% of grade. Other 25% is from weekly papers which are reciting notes taken in class. He's a nice guy with a sense of humour but can be sorta arrogant.
No help outside of test and notes. Serious but sarcastic guy. 0/10 would not recommend. Can't get notes if you don't ask peers, can't retake test. What you get is just what you get.
One of my all time favorite teachers. He doesn't deserve all the dislike that he gets.
Like many other SCSU phil profs, Jordan has been outstanding. He is well-spoken, hilarious, a fairly tough grader (which I prefer for many reasons), and he seems like a good person in general. His classes are structured well and easy to follow as a result. Lectures are entertaining and engaging. Looking forward to my next class with him!
Worst jokes ever, only professor that says stuff soooo out of pocket
I enjoyed this class more than I thought I would, gets more hate than he deserves. Takes an old school approach, so no electronics at all, doesn't post the lecture slides online so make sure to show up, is very direct. Only 50min course so goes quickly. The weekly papers are just typing up your notes. Show up, take notes, do hw and you'll be fine.
Pretty disrespectful honestly. Will humiliate you for asking some questions, electronics being out especially, doesn't even show up on time even when he holds class to the higher standard. Forgets to post his assignments up so I cannot submit when they are due very frustrating. Can't even use electronics for studying strats for disabilities.
He doesn't allow any sort of electronics and will call you out if he sees that you have a phone out. He is very lecture heavy, and doesn't post anything on d2l, His papers are easy, if you took notes then it just gets turned into a paper. His tests are very hard and doesn't give you feedback or explain why you got an answer wrong.
He was so bad in communication. He never replied to any of the emails. The tests were difficult even after studying and prepared. No extra credit. Have to attend lectures for the notes as he will not post anything in d2l about what was taught in the class.
