His online videos are awesome
In this class, you will gain insight as to what history did for us. This class pushes you to a higher level of thinking and he is very innovative in his use of technology. This is the very online class that I have taken where the professor utilized different ways to engage student participation. This class is very collaborative and fun.
Great professor. He truly cares about his students and really designs the course to make it interesting. There is a lot of writing in the class but the essay questions are short and you only have to write a paragraph or two. He sometimes does group work and periodically allows exams to be taken open note, open book! Highly recommend.
The tests are decently hard, and i actually like that he made me work for it.
Moar multiple choice!!!
I've taken both of Professor O'Connell's History classes and they were excellent. His online class page was easy to navigate and in order. Lessons were easy to follow and offered extra notes on YouTube. He offered assistance and feedback when asked for or when needed. Howard College is Lucky to have him.
He was always there when I needed help and gave extra credit on almost every single one of our tests (which pretty much saved me). He also was very helpful with providing clear feedback and taking the extra time to read each students tests and discussion questions carefully. I would take this class again.
He is an amazing guy!
He was such a great teacher. He would text you or email you and ask how come you haven't done this quiz.
O'Connell has a great system set up and is very fair. He has always listened to my feedback and, when asked about it, will raise a low grade if you can defend your answer well. All exams are essay based.
Mr. O'Connell was a very great teacher who was always very clear on what he wanted for assignments and made the assignments easy enough for anyone to easily pass if they read their book and watched the lecture. He was very helpful and understanding when a situation would come up and a paper was late or an issue occurred with TurnItIn. Great Teacher
Mr. O'Connell is an amazing professor. He is very professional and responsible and gives feedback very soon. His lectures and assignments were clear and understandable, if not, he always insisted that his students contact him for anything.
I like the feedback that he gives, it not only helps us but it also makes us brainstorm the matter.
He seems to be an all around great guy. Loved his class, it was always a blast, wish I could take it again. As long as you're respectful to him and the rest of the class, there's no problems. But when people start being smart asses, he can get kinda angry.
Really enjoyable professor, he really respected our viewpoints on various topics.
I really liked how he taught and how helpful he was. When ever you had a question he responded quickly and it made a lot of sense.
My professor was inspirational, a good teacher and an overall very awesome person.
Professor O'Connell did a great job with the US History class this year. With him you know what to expect and he is a very even grader.
Great class.
Great teacher. Put in the work and the results follow, so take plenty of time and thought into his essay questions.
I really appreciate that he gave me any feedback to improve and get better each and every time. He was very lenient with things that I struggled with. I appreciate the encouragement that he gave me, for that I feel like a much better student, and I personally am really sad its over. More importantly he never gave up on me. Thank you professor O'C!
This was a great class. It was not hard enough that I wanted to drop out or easy enough that I didn't try. I learned a lot from my Professor and he did a great job this job.
great teacher with you tube lectures
Great Professor, would totally recommend!
The best teacher I could have had for History. If I lived closer instead of Levelland, I would take his class, because he is not offering online classes until 2018. That was the only drawback for me. However, I wished he would change his mind and teach online classes for this spring. Great teacher, and excellent lectures, with great feedback!
This history class was pretty cool. Great instructor/professor, very nice and helpful. The work was easy if you studied and open book tests make the course less stressful.
Great professor! No real complaints, definitely one of my favorites. Gives very clear instructions, makes all the work accessible so you may work at your own pace, and gives great feedback on all work you turn in.
My only complaint is feedback. I would like to receive more feedback. I believe it will help me do better in this class.
Super enjoyable class. 10/10 would history again.
Great class!
Mr. O'Connell is better than most high school teachers! It's been said that college professors are scary compared to high school teachers, but he proves this to be false. :)
I did enjoy the course and how he relayed it, but I do not believe this professor took into account how much a student has to juggle around college. I do not believe that this professor considered how hard a student worked even though the content may not be up to their standards.
This professor gives you the option to work ahead on your assignments. I would suggest doing this. He also grades the essay questions on tests pretty tough. He expects you to read the book and even use research from outside sources for tests and essay questions. His discussion boards are in depth aspects of history and provoke a lot of thought.
I would have wished to hear more feedback, but overall a pretty solid course. He does a good job of making overall feedback, however there is not much individual feedback and correction. Not much feedback and critical grading was complicated, but the coursework was consistent and manageable.
Doesnt give enough feedback for an online course
Jordan O'Connell is a great professor. He is willing to give his day to helping kids on their assignments. He gives excellent feedback some of which got me through his class with an A. I would gladly take his class next semester.
Mr. O'Connell was very easy to access when I was in the hospital. He created a separate test for me to catch up on what I missed. He was very understanding, and definitely helped me out. Mr. O'Connell was a tough grader, but he was just doing his job. Overall, he was a very good professor.
Most of the time I would receive feedback, but sometimes i wouldn't and it'd often be a little confusing, but when I did receive some it'd be very well explained and very helpful.
I really enjoyed everything that this course had to offer.
LOVED THIS CLASS
This Professor will blow your mind. This Professor knows da way!
Not the simply a matter of learning names, dates, and events. Understand this professor, expect to work at seeing how past events impact the present world we live in and discuss ideas about how we create our own history. Better wear your thinking caps. Good memorization will not suffice. Not the course for you if you just want to answer multichoice
At first, I thought this class was going to be tougher than I thought after reading the syllabus and completing week 1, but it wasn't all that bad. The only thing that I hated was reading the chapters because they were long BUT I did learn from it and gained much knowledge. It was challenging and fun. This class and the professor was great.
Professor O'Connell is a good teacher, but his class is very very heavy on reading and open ended responses. His grading is fair but a lot of work is worth very little points so I found myself frustrated and procrastinating easy assignments because they were too time consuming.
Although I paid for this class and my book and intend to obtain a degree in biology, not history, I am grateful to you for your direction in this class. The choice of the American Yawp as the text for this class was brilliant and it has caused me to be more interested in a future in politics and has motivated me to make my own raucous noise. Than
Was very helpful.
Mr. O'Connell is a great professor, he makes it very clear what is expected in his class. If you follow his guidelines, you will be successful in his class.
Class is hard but we all need a challenge in life.
He was extremely responsive and timely with getting back to me which as a college student is insanely important. My second time having him as a professor and I really like his approach to history.
This professor was a great one, cared about the grades, and always tried to help as much as possible, to make sure they got the best grade.
He is great at communicating, which made this course very easy to follow because he would always communicate with us. From about our grades, to about what we were learning.
He has been a great instructor, one of the best I have ever had!!!
Professor is tough but is very clear in what he expects. If you have ANY questions, he clarifies them quickly.
Loved the class and feedback I received weekly. Just wasn't a reader and didn't enjoy reading every week.
Very good professor, gives great feedback, and responds to emails quickly.
Had him for an online class, he gave a clear syllabus along with due date. Although you have time to do work throughout the week, you dont wanna miss a quiz/discussion. Very good overall.
Jordan O'Connell was an excellent professor and I enjoyed taking both US History I & II online with him! 10/10
Mr. O'Connell is an excellent educator. His passion for history can be seen through his teaching. He provides immediate feedback on assignments, is available outside of class through email and course messages, and challenges you to think outside of the box. He applies course material to present day and encourages students to use critical thinking.
Mr. OConnell set up the course in such a way that you knew exactly what was expected of you every week. He expects you to think deeply about the discussion questions and understand the content that youre reading. I loved the predictability of the course and I learned a lot.
Get ready to lease history
Great class
Jordan O'Connell is a difficult teacher, but he is a good one. Just expects a lot from his students; almost as if he feels like they do not have other classes to attend.
Overall the class was good however the textbook was a little hard to grab attention and understand. Maybe if the chapters were a tad shorter or if videos were included to the occuring chapters.
OConnell was very good at giving feed back on all of your work, he was always available, and the content was very interesting. I would say that he is a great instructor. However, my complaint is that he asked for way too much. If youre up for 2 essays and 4 lengthy discussion posts a week, then you are a perfect match for this class. I was not.
This semester was a rough semester and this professor was no where near lenient. Instead of helping he consolidated assignments and made the work load even worse. We had to submit more work with sooner deadlines because of the extended spring break. Nothing was planned and I know this, however he shouldve been more considerate.
This was my first American History class and I thought it was a wonderful class. It was a lot of reading and writing more than I anticipated but worth it because I learned so much.
Professor OC will challenge you to think for yourself. Dont expect to blow through the course doing the bare minimum because that would be a sad waste of everyones time. Yes, youll read a textbook and yes, youll have discussions with classmates. If you are open to learning, this teacher is available to encourage that growth.
the best teacher that i had in college is him and three or four more. but he always help me and give me the chance to do my things despite of my limitations. i would recommend him and he is very good and funny. and he play also videogames in discord
Prof. Oconnell is a great teacher, the class is easy if you read the chapters provided. The discussions are nice because you interact with other students and their ideas.
Mr. OConnell is the best history professor I have ever had. Granted, this is Texas and I only had coaches teach history. Thanks Mr. OConnell for every single responses from the discussions and tests. You made voting season an eye opener! :D
Professor O'Connell is a great teacher. I not one for history but I really enjoyed the online class and how his system is setup. I will do a lot of reading but if you can read and do the work, you can pass this class with an A
Literally the greatest professor that I have ever had, was accommodating to an issue I had during class, gives amazing feedback and generally cares about the subject he teaches as well as everyone in every single class. Well structured and organized class and we test trialed his new version of lectures and they were fantastic! taking him for 1302(:
Great professor enjoyed his class so much I made a D on History 2 because the professor was horrible and with Mr. OConnell I have a A+ and actually learned my history.
Very good professor
This course is excellent.
The only thing I feel like I always miss is a deeper understanding of what the material is saying.
Mr. O'Connell is a very good instructor and is available most times of the day. He is understanding but not too lenient.
Great teacher! Really cares about his students and teaches with enthusiasm. Also whenever help was needed, he was available which makes it less stressful for students. Enjoyed this class very much and look forward to being in his next class.
Think he did a good job!
He is the most engaging, most approachable, and funniest History professor Ive learned from in my college experiences (Im getting another degree). He enjoys and excels at interacting with online students. He provides thought-provoking discussion questions. His Lest We Forget historical figure video project is unique and a really fun experience!!
Said Marconi invented radio when it was really Tesla. NOTHING this man says can be trusted since he is clearly part of the conspiracy trying to keep Tesla tech away from humanity.
Prof. O'Connell is an amazing teacher, very considerate and always there when you have a questions that needed answers. I learned so much from his lectures and discussions.
Professor O'Connell had great instructor references in his lecture and summary videos. It did make the course more challenging, but it did help put the chapter in context. He offers extra credit on every test. He also had class meetings in the beginning and through the midterm. Lastly The American Yawp is one of the best textbooks I have ever read.
Mr. Oconnells class is great as long as you participate and do all the work. Every chapter there is a discussion+reply & a quiz. Final exam & turning in a Biography project. Project is stupid he wants a YouTube 5 min video (not everyone knows how to use YouTube) He's very unprofessional he mistakes me for another student twice. Wouldn't take again.
He was really an amazing professor to have in one of my two first college classes. He was very caring of his students and gave out the respect that he received. I was not afraid to ask questions or email him about any concerns.
A lot of reading to completely. Homework overload like we don't have a life.Every week homework it took about 5-6 hrs all together. I would do all the work yet his grading was strict had to take his class twice and only took him twice dreading it because he was the only one available but I needed the course.
He is very funny and teaches very well
I love him
