Great teacher who helped a lot, and though my interest in history was not very high he really kept the class going (giving 2-3 breaks per class) and made it interesting the whole semester through.
Fairly new teacher who also teaches at UCI so you get the same level of education but at a 3rd of the price. Keeps the class interesting and the test aren't very hard. Grades very easily on the essay portion of the test.
Extremely boring class. Lack of discussion, compounded by the fact that he interrupts anything you are going to say. Teaches right out of his review sheet. Virtually no reason to read the textbook, or buy it for that matter. Not challenging at all. If you want to breeze by, take this class.
Easy class to pass but it was extremely boring, Back when I took this course in 2010 I pretty much just sat in the back of the class on my laptop and still managed to get an A. There is really no participation or discussion. Tests have long study guides and essay Q's but they're easy. Lastly assigned reading is long and dry.
Hes clear about materials in class. Loaded work, maybe just cus I took honor class. Pretty hard for an international student like me in class since the tests based on both presentations in-class and books/supp.. Attendance is mandatory and takes up lots of pts. So, ala u go to class, prepared for class, study hard for tests, ur good to go
This teacher seems nice, but his discussions are so horrible and boring. He seems like he doesn't know what he's doing. Very unorganized.
Stanton is a great teacher! Really cares about the students. Class is really easy, gives you a study guide for every test, and his class is open. Take it if you can!
For this class reading the book is highly recommended. There was 2 easy map quizzes, 1 ppt presentation and 4 tests. On the tests half of it is multiple choice and the other half essay questions.
I'm taking this teacher right now and would not recommend him for anyone. His notes are just a basic outline and his study guides are so broad you don't know what your suppose to be studying. He's kind of all over the place in his lectures as well.
Professor Stanton is terrible. His syllabus and course curriculum lacks clarity and is severely broad. His tests consist of multiple choice questions and ending with an essay. His lectures are very misguided and very shotgunned. Only easy part of his course is his online activities. Though his course is out of 1000 points,I would pick someone else.
Classes can get quite boring but this teacher has knowledge about the rest of the world that most do not have. Lots of work but if you're disciplined you will do great. I would copy and paste his lectures onto word and then bullet point under the topics he talks about, he goes in order quite well and is not disorganized. Easy A and I learned.
His lectures are up to the last minute every single day, tests are 25 MC questions and an essay question. Tests are pretty straight forward, homework is easy and online. If you do the homework and extra credit on time, and study maybe an hour or so for the exams you could get an easy A. I just kept forgetting to log on to BB to do my homework.
Professor Stanton is a great teacher I am currently enrolled in his class and am doing quite well. Lecture seems to go by quick and he is very straightforward. I would suggest not to miss any classes since he does deduct points and you will be behind. As for the tests they are very easy the study guide is basically the whole test outlined.
He has the worst handwriting ever, he's funny sometimes but his lectures are all over the place. His outlines have nothing to do with the study guides and the study guides are so broad. He loves making people write. For the study guides he gives you essay questions and then on the test he picks 2 out of 3 and puts them on the test
This prof and this class was pretty easy to pass. Slide lectures are pretty broad but if you take down notes about key information that'll help a lot. His tests are very easy if you work on the study guide and come to class 4 the study review session! Theres moderate amt of hw but its easier and less complex than most teachers. Showing up matters.
Very easy professor. Online HW, 4 exams (MC and one FR), 1 essay, and 1 EC essay. He goes over the exam study guides and that's all you have to study for the exam. Participation points are based on video activities, which happen once a week. He might be a little boring, but getting an A is easy.
Dr. Stanton has no sense of humor and seems to only care about getting through his powerpoint. When students ask questions, he rarely lets them finish the question before giving his answer. Though he is knowledgable, his lectures are not interesting due to his lack of personality and care for the students. Class has no analysis, strictly factual.
This professor is an easy grader and the work load isnt heavy. Book is required because of the online homework. He is so boring to listen to. no humor, not fun and takes roll 3 times during class. very strict. VERY strict about his class rules. I wonder if he even laughs.
Attendance is up to you because sometimes he assigns a worksheet during a video and he gives you points. There were a total of 4 written test (2-3 paragraphs only/test)with 25 multiple choice questions and the final was multiple choice. Show up the class day before the test because he does a review and goes over whats going to be on the test.
I dont understand why people said this HIS170 class is an easy A. His exam very difficult because 50% is multi-choice and 50% is writing essay. He is really picky in grading the essay. The online HW easy to do, class assignment required. Final exam and final essay are difficult so be prepare yourself if you take this class. I would say this easy B.
There are no surprises in this class. If you study the lectures and do the homework, you should get an A.
Awesome Professor. Straight forward. Follows the Syllabus. The best part is you always know what your grade is. Pretty standard do the assignments, don't fall behind and you can pass the class.
I took his Summer 4 week class. He is a very chill professor and assigns no homework other than an essay that you have all semester to do, and some assigned readings (I hardly read the textbook and still got an A). Class is easy if you show up everyday and take notes and occasionally study for tests/quizzes (4 tests,5 quizzes) with his study guides
Very generous nice guy. Teaches fast but before every test he gives you the answers and study guide. Super easy class to study for. Not to much work.
Kind of a unique guy; takes a little bit to get used to how he acts. But his tests are straightforward to the review; and while he doesn't grade on attendance he does a lot of in class assignments instead of homework.
He's nice guy who is passionate about History. HIST161 was a lot of information and is lecture heavy. Attendance is mandatory. He has 3 tests that include multiple choice & an essay question but goes over the study guide for each exam (include exam questions), 4 quizzes, a final, and a final essay. Go to lecture & pay attention and you'll do fine!
Offers a lot of extra credit, basically gives answers to tests while going over study guide, and super enthusiastic about teaching. He is extremely organized and clear, so nothing should be a surprise every time you walk into class. Tests are easy, quizzes are hard because there are no study guides. Quizzes are based on readings from the book!!!!
Stanton was a great professor! I took his World 1 and 2 classes simultaneously, and I got the format of his courses down. You need to show up & get easy points for in-class activities, but the tests are a breeze (he does a review session for each one, and if you write everything down, you're guaranteed an A.) Lot's of chances for extra credit too!
Very easy to pass class; go to class, understand lectures and you'll be good to go. Professor outlines exactly what's going to be on the test, so you'll have to answers and will know the short answer Qs. Tests r online, so you can go through your notes and Ace it. Professor teaches class enthusiastically and tells it like a story, very fun to learn
Didn't study for any of the online tests or final. Went to every class to get points for in class assignments, but other than that I found it hard to pay attention. Did the bare minimum and got a B with all the extra credits. If you tried it's an easy A. He is very animated and other people seemed to pay attention. Overall nice guy, wants to help.
His study guides are REALLY REALLY helpful also as a DSPS student he helped me out a lot without me even having to ask him. If you are a student of DSPS I highly recommend him. If you aren't it's an easy A-B anyway :) He gives a lot of extra credit and his study guides are really helpful. SHOW UP ON REVIEW DAY!!!!!!!
Love this class!!! I'm not good at History but managed to get an A. We had study guides for every test and he told us what we need to know for every term (write down everything). We had 3 exams online and 1 final exam. He told us what we need to know for every term. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Highly recommend taking his class!
OMG! I don't recommend him at all! he is very tough when it comes to grading the essay portion. There were 4 tests during the intersession course and I wrote more than 4 pages but my grade was around 50 out of 75 points!! the essay portion was very hard for me because he was very picky and you have to write too many details to get a good grade.
I was not very well educated in history until I took this class. I took it as an intersession and loved it so much. Pay attention to the study review and make sure you prepare for the essay portion. The multiple choice section is a breeze; however, the essay is where you want to dedicate more time towards. His lectures are awesome. Very smart guy!
Prof. Stanton helps students understand the thinking of people in history and objectively examines all sides of issues. He is very insightful and informed about so much of history. I now have a real sense and appreciation of my countrys history. Test tip: dont waste time trying to write an eloquent essay. Get the facts down and youll do fine.
very easy class if you pay attention and read assignments. He makes all his lectures very easy to follow and gives you reviews for all test.
He gives online tests.
Great teacher. He moves quickly through the material, but if you pay attention and ask questions, its a breeze. Be sure to stick to just the points in the essay, NO FLUFF, and you will get an A.
He's a really easy prof. only 3 tests throughout the class with a final of course. doesn't mind if you're late, offers extra credit and material is easy, either you like or hate history. I recommend!
all tests are online and open note/open book except for the final textbook (world's together) isn't mandatory for this class and only maybe the course reader but the library has it so I would recommend not purchasing either MEMORIZE STUDY GUIDE FOR FINAL because more than half of it is on the test
Lectures arent very detailed and he always ended up going over everything you needed to know right before a test so I never bothered writing anything from the lectures down, felt like a waste of time. He was a high school teacher and it very much felt like a high school class by the way he treated us. Course reader was mandatory but so expensive.
Professor Stanton explains everything well and likes to make sure the class is well prepared for exams. He offers a ton of extra credit and is understanding as long as you communicate with him. I would definitely take another class with Professor Stanton!
One of my favorite history classes and an amazing professor too. Be sure to take good notes during lectures, dont miss any classes, study for the tests in advance and be there for test reviews, and get started on the research paper early; dont do what I did and write it the week before it was due during finals even tho I still got an A lol.
Hist has always been hard for me to follow but the proff was very passionate about his lectures and he would do reviews before every test. his essay's are super straight forward and he doesn't expect you to remember exact dates and names.
The class was pretty boring, but it was the easiest A of my life. The only homework Stanton assigned was tiny group projects to groups of 8+ people. I only did 2 and they took like 10 minutes each. I lost my textbook after 5 weeks and but I managed to get by just paying attention during lectures. (sidenote: don't rent online textbooks from Norton)
worst teacher I have ever had. Does not teach at all just rambles and his lectures are all over the place.
His class is really easy, just show up to class and take notes. All tests are online, open notes, with one essay question. He'll do massive reviews the week leading up to the test and give the answers to all the questions and the possible essay questions. The final exam is all MC. The most confusing part was the final essay, so just send in a draft
Let me tell you something about Mr. Jordan Stanton. He is by far, the best professor I've ever had, in my entire life. He is one of the few teachers, that cares about what he teaches, and cares about you learning it as well. This website is lucky I cant write a 10 page review on why Jordan is the KING of history. Take this mans class, please.
He is just rude and unprofessional.
I got an A in the class and the exams are online open note so it makes it easier, it just difficult to follow along with lectures since he kinda runs through bullet points fairly quickly.
At first, it seems easy and you tell yourself "I got this" Well, you lied to yourself and signed onto an online hell. Sure, some say it's alright or is easy, man I don't know if you should trust that.
I took this over the summer for a 4-week class, Its a lot of information. A ton of notes and homework throughout the 4 weeks. It is easy for the most part, it's straight to the point and as long as you understand the lecture and watch the videos it's pretty easy. He does do review sessions for tests and is transparent about what's on the tests.
Very good professor. Very accessible and will answer your questions. 5 group projects in the form of discussion forums that require you to buy a book and for the essay that is due at the end of the semester. 2 Tests which are the midterm and final with an essay question for each. 2 quizzes as well that are multiple choice. Lots of homework as well
He is very mean to international student, usually won't reply my email. Easy to get A but he always gave me and my other international classmates low grades on group work and class work even we did it very early and provide full answer, at least full than others, he can always took points off!!! I got 93 on canvas but B on my transcript :)
I had this professor for World History and Humanities. This teacher has to be one of the best and respected history teachers in OCC. OCC is lucky to have him. Do the HW to understand the course and you have a review session for the exam. In his class, you have to do HW every week, a midterm, final, and 2 essays. I highly recommend him.
Dr. Stanton is great at communicating. His class is pretty simple with a few assignments each week and some group projects. He also is really quick to respond to emails. There are lots of extra credit opportunities.
I have had Professor Stanton for 2 online classes now, and he is amazing! He is so interested in his subject and loves to show it. He gives great feedback and is willing to discuss any topics you have questions about. His quizzes and tests aren't too hard, but become easier the more you study and read. I would def take him again anytime.
The reason I am rating this professor is because he has a very structured online class. Its organized and easy follow, so without having a live lecture I did very well, and retained the information well enough to score well on tests/quizzes. I highly recommend taking a course with him, lectures are guided with notes, and videos- interesting class.
One of my favorite history professors on campus. Has a love for history and is understanding towards his students.
Mostly video lectures that were pretty interesting & answering relatively simple questions, group activities which are basically discussion activities, two MC quizzes, and mostly MC exams. The final paper and EC weren't too bad. Professor Stanton is easy to reach and gives good feedback on assignments. The exam review sessions were helpful!
Overall, not bad. Discussions, group projects, homework, 2 quizzes, midterm+essay, final+essay. Group projects are graded individually. Reviews for midterm and final directly translated to tests. Textbook required, I didn't use it at all, lectures were sufficient. Instruction wasn't always clear, but do the work and questions and you'll pass.
Lots of lectures for the online class. I read the chapters the first few weeks and after the first quiz I realized if you take good notes on the lectures you dont need to read the book. He has a big review before the midterm/final where he tells you exactly what to study. Overall a good class with clear expectations and communication.
One of the most transparent professors I've experienced; Dr. Stanton is very communicative - no surprises with grading scale nor course work. Commentary is clear and addresses topics very professionally. Course work goes beyond simple regurgitation.
Pretty good professor and the class overall was easy. Says textbook is required, but not really because questions are gone over in class. Participation isn't graded, but he relies on it when not lecturing. Lecture happens all class, so prepare to take a lot of notes.
He is an awesome teacher. Very lecture heavy, but if you take good notes you will pass the tests. Gives lots of chances for extra credit. Attend the reviews for the midterm and the final. You will definitely pass those exams if you attend. He loves participation, so be prepared.
Professor Stanton is great! He's clearly very educated but never comes of as condescending, and is always willing to clear up any confusion. He's passionate about what he teaches. Definitely a lecture heavy instructor, but as long as you show up to class and take notes you will do fine.
He is not a bad professor. But he is very stingy with your submissions and will critique you hard even if you try your best and come up with similar answers as your classmates. He deducts an unusually a large amount of points from discussions and group projects even if you forget a small tiny step, or will take off atleast 4 points in your answers.
Very back and forth with grading, different grades for people with same answers to discussion questions.
This professor is good. He is very knowledgable about his material but is a hard grader. He gives different grades to people that have the similar answers. if your answer isn't his answer it's wrong. I would only take this class if I needed to but simply just no.
There are weekly modules where you watch a couple videos and answer 2 questions in 2-3 sentences each. Easy group projects about every 3 weeks. He sends out VARIOUS reminders about due dates and times. You will get an A if you do the work (with effort) and turn it in ON TIME. Those saying his class was hard most likely did everything last minute.
Professor Stanton is passionate about his teaching and cares for his students. If you attend the lectures and take notes it is not hard to get an "A". He has a midterm exam (online), 2 quizzes (online), two essays, one final, and several extra credit opportunities. Overall, great professor, but can be exhausting during lectures.
Overall, it was so good!
he posts a lot of videos of his lectures that are sometimes difficult to find time for. but his assignments are very simple easy and specific so you're never really stressing about them. his assignments were always assigned and due on Sundays, it was really helpful to have something consistent in my schedule. very consistent course.
He was okay. You mostly get one assignment a week with the exception of quizzes and essays on occasion. Lectures are extremely important in order to get a good grade. Very harsh about AI and runs all papers through an Ai detector (which is fine) Instructions are typically unclear on most occasions. It's just a bit difficult
There's weekly discussion posts that he grades pretty strickly on. There's also two essays that are also graded harshly. Took this as a GE but I wish I would have taken an easier class. It wasn't hard just a bit time consuming.
So many readings and really long lecture videos. Really hard grader for essays and doesn't give enough feedback for his reasoning behind a low grade. Tried hard all semester to end up not passing the class.
He docked me points for an answer I had that he said was incorrect, but I sent him an email with the exact lecture he created and timestamp and still didn't change my grade. He does give extra credit however it is all on campus events and unlike Anthro, it set events that you have to miss work for.
Don't understand his grading at all because you will see other students have the same answers as you just worded a little different, but they get full points and you don't. Makes you do group discussions which are irritating because you have to comment on their discussion and it doesn't make sense when it's not an opinion-based discussion.
My favorite professor so far. His lectures are fascinating and very entertaining. I recommend taking typed notes since he moves really fast through the slides. The textbook isn't really required since all the info needed for exams and assignments is either in his lectures or on Canvas.
He was a nice professor and I enjoyed his class. Two essays and the rest are short discussions or short answer assignments (2-3 sentences) based on readings. However, lecture videos and readings can be tedious.
This professor‘s biggest flaw is providing broad assignment topics and grading on minuscule details. The average grade for each assignment was 12 out of 20 points across the entire class. He has gone back on discussion boards to clarify what he's looking for with his assignments because they are so unclear.
He is so picky about the assignments given. He also does not help, or care to help you if your grade is struggling. He sucks and although it was somewhat easy (if you did ALL the work and how HE wanted it) the work was tedious.
Weekly assignments were pretty easy, just watch his lectures and respond to the questions in 2-3 sentences. Make sure to do group activites early and in the weekend the professor will give some feedback of what he wants from you before he grades it. Essays are pretty easy to do as long as you watches the lectures and pick the correct articles.
In Dr. Stanton's class, I easily retained most of what he lectured because he clearly goes over--several times--what you need to know. Do the work, show up to class and you'll do fine. He's a great professor and accessible outside of class. The negative reviews are from low effort students and they're in for a surprise after transfer.
The worst professor I've had at OCC. I took the 100 level class and was graded as if I was in an advanced level class. I have never done worse on essays in my entire life and I already took the english course req. He gives awful and unhelpful feedback on essays. First essay was told I was too vague second essay was too specific. If you can AVOID!!
Super tough grader on essays, will do basically anything to take points off. WAY too picky for an intro level course. Gives super vague instructions then marks you down for being too vague. Emailed him for clarification on my grade and basically told me to stop complaining and that my score was "generous". Terrible prof, avoid if you can.
Really simple to understand, objective, clear expectations
Only did lectures and videos. Very few group stuff. There was no assignments other than video notes which were done in class and tests. Decently good teacher, just a very difficult class!
He is a pretty tough grader on assignments, so make sure to include every point. His essay prompts are hard in the beginning, but it gets very easy once you get used to it. This isnt the easiest GE course, but he was very understanding and helpful.
