Dump the class if you have him ... theres NO way you can understand a WORD that comes out of his mouth if you were to HOLD your ear up to it!!
Awesome prof. A little hard to understand, so sit close. Very, very nice man, will go out of his way to help. Oh, and an awesomely cool accent. "Jah."
He is slightly hard to understand due to the language barrier. Do not skip the class, because h is very helpful, and reviews before the tests! which other prof does that? Text is easy to learn from, and Grigull will help you if you go upto him after the lecture. Gdluck, and sit close to the front.
he is very helpful, and his accent is not that bad Jaaah!! His tests are not bad either Jaaah!
Gut! He is a great teacher, pretty cool accent and for those who can understand him he is great. Ja he is very helpful if u ask him for help. Just come to classes do the work and u ll get the grade u want :) OH JAA!!!
Hard to understand with the accent, must focus all class. Tests questions are fair but marking is ridiculous.Ive received not even 1/2marks for questions in which the answer was completely right. Not helpful in discussing marks, doesn't reply to email, not in his office when he says. Seems nice tho!
he's confusing and hard to understand
He is very nice and helpful and I got an A+ in his class. The tests are good too. The accent is only dificult at the beginning but then you get used to it and understand everything. I would recommend him.
yah yah.. he is nice .. kinda hard to unerstand at the beginin' but don't give up quickly, u people r in kanada so yah yah.. u should expect people with different accents... guut guut.. :) guut luck!
He simply sucks.Let me tell u this the text book is much more clearer than him .I read the book I understood it word by word .I read his notes I get confused. And it is not only me that feels this way .I have talked to my friends in that class and everyone agreees. If he is good in any other class he sucks in this one.
While he's a nice guy if u actually talk to him, he simply can't teach, there is a definate language barrier that goes both ways, and he concentrates way to much on the theory and not enough on HOW to do the math. HIs tests are pretty easy though...narrows things down nicely
Very unhelpful, he doesnt explain concepts, and his notes are a mess.
His tests were not easy at all even with a cheat sheet. Going to class was pointless, better to learn from the textbook as it was more clearer. He never provided all the answers to his assignments and always went taught past 50 mins as why i was always late for my next class. He was helpful with homework but was unclear that it didnt help much
One of the great math teachers.
He is a nice guy. However his class is very hard to understand, there is some problems with his oral English. He spreaks very fast and his note is quite unclear; specially he usually doesn't follow the textbook. Exams are hard, average is very very low. I f you have other choice, I suggest you to avoid this Professor.
He's an okay professor. A little bit hard to understand sometimes because he talks too fast. He tries to be helpful and makes himself available. This statistic course is maybe a bit harder than similar ones since he makes it more mathematical in the second half.
He wasn't a good prof...his lectures were unclear and so were his notes....and all you do in class is copy down pages and pages of notes...but his tests are really easy if you do all the questions on the assignment and study from the textbook. His notes were useless...i studied mostly from the textbook. overall the course was easier than i thought
He is a very good professor. Nice guy and helpful. His tests are of a medium difficulty. He's clear and I would recommend taking a course with him.
He is a very good professor. Nice guy and helpful. His tests are of a medium difficulty. He's clear and I would recommend taking a course with him.
If you don't want to waste money, waste time and learn nothing, then don't take this prof. He has no logic and very disordering and unorganized!
Having a class with him was by far my worst experience at York. He is very difficult to understand (both concepts and verbal English), and makes no effort to understand and answer questions. You spend so much time figuring out what he is saying that you miss the course material. Due to his poor performance he wont be teaching in the Bio dept again
Can't understand what he is saying, he has some wierd accent, yaaah! his tests are ok. Don't even bother asking him questions in class because he will never answer your questions..try to avoid taking his class.
Notes are unclear he spends time on things that are not important he needs to spend more time on course material
Train of thought is very difficult to follow, he jumps all over the place, notes on the board are very scattered. Does not answer questions asked, just explains something else. Sometimes stops partway through an explanation. Seems like a nice guy, but just does not know how to teach at all. THIS WAS MY WORST EXPERIENCE AT YORK UNIVERSITY.
This is bad professor. Dont risk your money or mark with him. Messy, non-sequential, presentation of course material during lectures. Impossible final exam. Does not answer questions, just repeats your question and continues on. Does not answer emails at all. Not a pleasant experience.
worst professor ever! very monotone, very unexpected exam worth 55%, very hard and full of industrial statistics. Other group in the same exam class had an exam that had inclusion-exclusion question, while we had calculus questions! only solves his handout questions, no instuctions or a learning process provided! GARBAGE!
Good teacher but hard to understand because of his accent. Exams are relatively easy if you don't miss the classes, take notes and do the exercises.
This course was easier than I expected. Nice guy with weird accent, tries to be helpful, moderately easy exams.
Tries to be helpful, but lectures are utterly incomprehensible. Tests are reasonably easy.
In Nut shell dont waste time and money with this guy.
Please listen to everyone else who posted. This prof is the WORST prof ever. He's like Alip+Purzitsky but WORSE. He acts nice on the outside, but he's just pretending to get his promotion. Don't waste your time and money with him. He gives ORAL exams! Comes late to class, ends classes late and he's in the biology department but teaches math >=(
I thougth he was a very nice professor, I don't understand why everyone is so mad... His notes are very clear and he has an accent, but its understandable...
Very hard to understand!!
He's really nice, and his tests are reasonable. His accent is awful but it can be understood if you pay attention. Though we find it easier to read the textbook directly and attend classes as practice.
He's a nice guy, but very difficult to understand, notes are hard to read. Doesn't use technology at all, writes all his notes in incomprehensible script on chalkboard. Tests are reasonable, but you're better off just reading the textbook and teaching yourself.
On the upside, he's nice and tries to answer questions that you ask. However, his lecture notes jump from concept to concept, and aren't indicative of the material that you need to know. I relied EXCLUSIVELY on the textbook for this course; I did not learn any new concepts from his class alone. But if you work hard, you can do well in any course.
The guy is very nice as he bellcurves as needed. However, he can't teach for his life. If you rely only on the textbook, you can get an A in this course like me :)
He's a really nice guy and very cooperative when you request something or ask questions. However, his accent and unclear writing make it hard to follow the lesson.
Possibly the worst prof ever! Recommended the book which is equally useless! His explanation is terrible and expects that u know this already! Save your money, avoid this guy!
Very sweet guy; always helpful and cooperative. His tests are pretty reasonable but his messy writing and disorganized notes are kind of hard to follow. Overall, not too bad.
He is the worst prof everrrr!!! avoid him at any cost. he is not fair in his marking at all. and you can never make sense of what he says basically you have to study on your own. he is just the worst professor.
It's one of those classes where you sit, watch the prof, and wonder how on earth he got his position. WORST PROF EVER. He cannot teach and he is VERY difficult to understand! He's just as disorganized as the textbook. Just another self-teaching course, like any other math course at York. Please try to avoid!
He may not be the best at explaining concepts but his tests (at least for this course) were very very fair. This course is mostly gr12 review so no complains from me.
H.O.R.R.I.B.L.E. prof and hard course! Take 1505 instead!
Worst professor I have ever had. You have to do extra reading from the textbook and other sources to get a clear understanding of the material. He will give assignments from sections he did not teach yet. He also has a unique accent that causes confusion while teaching. His teaching methods are chaotic and will teach from random sections. Avoid him
His notes are illegible and all over the place. It's like he's talking to himself and he doesn't answer questions in class. Get ready to read the terrible textbook on your own which is as messy as this man.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. He's extremely unorganized with his notes. It's very hard to read what he writes on the board, and he doesn't answer questions. He jumps through different sections in the textbook which makes it very hard to understand the material. Horrible accent as well. Avoid at all costs!
This Prof is a joke, from the upside down notes to the guy forgetting to turn on the projector, he's done it all. His lectures are quite humorous as he will make many mistakes, fail to answer students and jump straight to examples with no background to the topic of the chapter. You will most likely have to teach yourself AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
His teaching style is horrible, it requires a lot of self teaching. No point in going to class. The tests are too long for the allocated time. He shouldn't be teaching, he cant communicate with his students. He is all over the place, he has zero communication with his students.
The worst prof I had at York. He is jumping all over the place, so you never know what chapter he is at and therefore, he is really hard to follow during the lectures. Does not like to take/answer student's questions. Tests/Exams are extremely long. I would never take his course again even if I had no other option available. Bad, bad prof!
I'm not complaining. He really helped me.
If you study, you'll pass. He is such a sweet and helpful guy :)
Professor Grigull does try his best to convey lecture material to his classes. Unfortunately for some, his accent and anxious-persona may throw some students off. This 6 credit course is a review of grade 12 calc in the first half with new and advanced material in the 2nd half. In-class tests were very fair with the exams being more difficult.
Great prof!
WORST PROF EVER at York. Having no idea how he get good reviews
I had to do most of the work myself and watch youtube tutorials to understand the materials since this prof just comes to fill the blackboard and thats it. He also has a very thick accent and doesnt speak clear and this made it even harder to learn.
I feel like most people give him a bad rating because of his German accent but I found that it was negligible. The course itself was good. I found his first test very easy and I don't recommend doing the homework BUT DO THE WEB-ASSIGN. His tests are much like the web assign. My mark slipped from an A to a B+ after the final exam (written by york)..
His accent is heavy and kind of hard to understand but he seems to really care, and besides the accent, he knows what he's doing. I did really gut on the first test, which was easy. Ended with an A.
He was so impatient & annoyed when students ask him questions; writing is difficult to recognize. No online website, no lecture notes posted, so we have to write a lot in class. The questions he shows on screen passes so fast, we don't have to chance to copy that. Never apply emails. Assignment is super difficult, doesn't relate to lecture at all:(
The heaviest accent I have ever heard. I can understand only the words "I mean" and "ummm". Rest is probably in great or some Europen language. I would never take his class! In the moment you find any other section, take the other!
He spends more time clearing his throat than lecturing ... and he isn't very good at either.
AVOID. thats all
Honestly, he's hard to understand at times and he teaches a bit strangely but I didn't do too badly because I worked hard.
His notes were really messy and difficult to understand (honestly, his "b" and "s" look the same, as well as his "k" and "n"). His lectures were also difficult to follow along in unless you already knew the material. However, he is willing to help students who ask, and his tests, compared to the other profs, are fair.
HIs tests are soft. You don't even have to show up for his lectures or do the assignments.
WARNING: Avoid if you can! Even by York standards, Grigull takes low-quality teaching to the next level. He covers almost half the book by the first midterm, and it's going to be impossible to get through the test unless you've solved basically every single question. Had 3 hours of lecture time and gave us only 50 minutes for tests.
The worst math prof i ever had in York.
the second-most boring lectures I had in four years at York. attendance ratio was about 5% by the end of the term (hilariously low even by York standards). ridiculously hard assignments (by York standards), but tests are reasonable (probably standardized across the department...).
He's good at explaining one to one but he's not understandable in class his assignments are from textbook so it is really easy and his tests are really easy and fair compared to other prof's he is good must take him
If you guys have any other option, PLEASE DO NOT choose his course!!!
Worst prof at York, hardest class I have ever taken by a mile. This isnt the case because the material is exceedingly difficult he just makes it so hard. We did so much material in such a small amount of time, and he skips so much. When you ask for help he says its your responsibility to read outside of class. Does not care about students!
BEST PROF IN THE WORLD HANDS DOWN, HE IS MY HERO!!!
The Worst and the most pathetic thing that can ever happen to you at York. He doesnt know how to teach. Period.
His name is pronounced "Yurgh", which is the same sound you should be making if you ever see this prof as an option for your courses. Avoid!
It is difficult to understand his lecture and his notes are hard to read. please avoid him!
The worst semester ive ever had at YorkU was because of this professor. Never replies to emails, lectures were recorded and half the blackboard was out of the frame, couldnt hear him at all because he doesnt use a microphone. Had to teach myself the entire course using the textbook, most likely will have to retake this course again. 0/5
Professor Grigull was a hardworking professor. He takes videos of his lectures. He uses the blackboard. A lot of material was covered in this course and I was confused. I had to self teach myself most of the time.
Lectures are useless. He is incoherent even if his mic picks up his voice. His notes on the chalkboard are unreadable even if they are in frame. Self taught the course. Do not take any course with this prof.
His hand writing is very poor, he mumbles and speaks quietly, he only put pre-recorded lectures on eclass and most of the time he cut off what he was writing on the board. The final exam was significantly harder than all assignments and midterms. Overall, the worst professor/teacher I have ever taken a course from.
THIS PROF. IS THE WORST!! PLEASE DO NOT TO TAKE HIM. He doesn't teach well, DOESN'T REPLY TO EMAILS. That alone is enough concern. He doesn't speak clearly in class. His course materials are not reliable therefore, not useful for study. doesn't know how assignments work, only posts. The worst part is that he misplaces students test scripts.
He is actually a nice prof, clears doubts in office hours. He keeps his quizzes & exams super easy and also uses bell curving if needed. 1013 is just basic calculus, you don't need to attend his lectures, just learn all the basics and you are good to go :)
Don't know how to teach calculas. He just come with his notes in the class start writing on the board. He lost students test papers so funny. Worst professor i think
Mr. Grigull, like many other professors, is not a pedagogue, he is a little quiet, his blackboard notes can be messy, and he is not always responding to the emails. So to properly understand the subject, you have to put in a bit more effort, compared to the other professors. However, if you prepare and listen, on his test it's easy to get 70-80%.
Organized lectures, prepares well for the tests.
Horrible. I would give him 0 stars if I can. The material he teaches is straight forward but his horrible lectures make it more confusing that it needs to be. His voice is not audible, he can't finish a sentence without cutting himself off with "um" "uh". He mumbles when he teaches. His hand writing is not legible and he doesn't respond to emails.
Took math4430 with him. Got a very hard group project and a long exam. NEVER REPLY THE EMAIL.
Changed my life!!!!!
Great experience in his class!
switch majors, run if u need too..save yourselves 4 mths of this guy.
Very, very difficult to understand what he says and what his notes read. Very hard assignments with lengthy questions.
Extremely lengthy homework worth 5% each. Extremely hard heavily weighted tests, and a final worth 45%. His lectures are incoherent, skips lots of steps. Makes crucial spelling mistakes on tests that made people I know lose marks. Do not take this professor he will waste your time.
putting this dudes name on my sewerslide note
Tough class, but Unstuck study was a lifesaver for study prep. Lectures can be rough, so focus on the textbook and don't skip class. Overall, a challenging course but doable with the right tools.
Never take a course with him!!!!
What an awful professor that teaches at York University. He does not even teach students well with lengthly lecture plus lengthy homework. His tests are so much harder with less times and some questions does not make any sense. Please, if you take any MATH courses with him I would recommend to switch and take it with another good professors.
Prof seems like a nice guy, however the lectures are useless and you have to read the textbook.
Lectures are honestly horrendous you don't gain anything by going, his writing and lecture structure is horrible. Course is overall very hard but tests were still pretty hard. Web assigns do prepare decent for tests, and he did make weighting of tests more generous at the end.
Do not attend his lectures if you are behind the pace of the class because if you do you will be more lost. He gave us an option which was that if you did one of the mid term tests badly, then the grade of that test would have been dropped and added to the final exam which was a great considering the fact that it relieved many pressure off of you.
Lectures aren't very helpful so you'd probably be better off self-teaching from the textbook and there are lengthy assignments that half of doesn't get marked so you kinda waste your time :/ But they are good mark boosters! Tests and final were fair as long as you did textbook practice tho. If you took MATH1131 you'll find this course easy.
His lectures are not bad, but you need to do reading and studying by yourself to pass this course.
