wastes a lot of time forcing students to cover a lot of ground on their own. However, he is open to questions and gives ample opportunity to improve grades.

This is my second time taking this class and this time doing the homework and the review sheets has been helpful. The first time I used to study too much and did not do well on tests. A lot of material.
Almost finished the whole book. If you do not do your homework and are are always absent to class, this is not for you.
He is a very good teacher very helpful do the work study and you get what you put into it.
Math 5a was more difficult. Homework and attendace are important. He makes the concepts easy to understand.
Fantastic teacher! If you really want to learn maths and easily get a good grade, he is a must-take teacher! But you have to first pay attention on the lecture, carefully read the bood and do all the homework. It's a gurantee A! Good Luck!
He makes it easy to understand the concepts. Excellent instructor. Lots of practice exercises. Not easy if you just study at the last minute.
Math is my best subjects..and i just dropped his class~his tests are very veryvery hard...you never know what kind of questions he gives..bad teacher! afterall, DR. YANG is the best...!!!!
Help to students. Studying you will do Ok.
Very cool and nice teacher, offers help whenever needed. As long as you stay caught up and ask for help if you need it, you can get a good grade.
He is very disorganized and unclear about both concepts and assingments. He offers to help but when you go to his office hours he acts irritated that you're there. He's a really horrible teacher-Don't take him!!!
Answers questions. Homework, attendance is important. Helps students.
He confuses you because he makes tons of mistakes. His tests are okay, not too hard nor too easy. He offers extra credit often. He likes to crack jokes. All in all, he is an alright teacher.
This is a great math teacher. He explains things clearly and repeatedly if needed. He has good office hours and is more than willing to help anyone that needs it.
Good sense of humor. Explainations are clear. You will get what you put in. Reviews algebra when needed.
Horrible teacher...he kinda has a sense of humor but cannot teach math at all!! He constantly messes up in lectures and just confuses you more. He doesn't like helping you when class is out. Very inconsistent
Not an easy A, but final exam was fair. Nice and understanding of students. What can I say, difficult subject. Good luck.
tries his best to explain things.. he is fair.. not easy if you dont plan on doing homework..
Seems a little disorganized but not everyone is. Is very fair in grading, and on homework. If you aren't big on homework don't take the class, you will fail for sure.
He teaches well, he's energetic and is very helpfull. Grades very fairly and is easy going. Overall not too hard to get an A in his class. IF you do your homework you'll be o.k.
Pretty easy A. Tries hard to explains things. Means well. Good teacher.
this dude (super) sucks...i mean seriously...all he has to do is to go back to the level he belongs to which is his algebra class...then he always tries to show us his sense of humor...i was like...is that a joke?!!!?are we supposed to laugh?&
Test questions similar to homework. Good pace and answers questions. Homework is a must in this class.
Confusing, but tries hard. Nice guy, but not a great teacher. Makes a lot of mistakes in class, but fair, easy tests. Homework is a must.
He tries hard to help any students with problems. His clarity in lecture is often hard to understand. However, as long as you complete homework, the class shouldn't be to tough. He's smart, but often makes mistakes. His sense of humor is also pretty funny (sometimes).
very good teacher. he usually does mistakes. although sometimes it's confusing, this teacher teaches harder than you thought. you have to make the homework every day. if you got a C in math9. you'll need a lot of effort in this class. the test is hard.
I didn't like this prof. at all. He was hard to understand and unfair on his grading. He tried to answer questions but made us more confused in the process. I dropped him and did well in 5B with another teacher. Try someone else if you can-this guy makes it harder then it needs to be.
This prof tries to explain things clearly, but he inevitably makes a mistake in EVERY problem he does on the board. If you are a person who needs to write out every step in a math ?(like I am), this teacher won't work for you. Doesn't care if you do it right, just that you can do it super fast.
Easy to follow.
Extremely unclear prof who spent way too much time on fundamentals (and often didn't seem to know them himself). Easy assignments, but when he tried to explain things it would just get more confusing. He means well but shouldn't be teaching trigonometry.
he's a really nice professor. he makes mistakes, and sometimes he tends to spend too much time on one problem. you need to do HW in his class and the review sheet. that's a must. if u do so, u'll do fine on the tests (they range from very similar to exactly to the HW problems). he grades ok on the tests, not hard at all. not a hard A at all.
Strict but fair. Lots of hw and problems in handsouts but will help. You will get out of this class what you put in.
I do not know what is this professors deal, but if you plan on taking him let me warn you, he is a bad professor. eg. he asks the class if what he teaches is right, then he teaches the wrong thing. he takes forever to do a problem and is very unhelpful. if you really don;t want to learn take. your better off not going to class and teaching yourself
fair teacher, although not quite clear when lecturing~
he is a pretty good professor. will help you if you ask. when i transfer into his class, i was lost and end up failing the first test. he told me not to worry since it was the first test and we can make it up on the next test. he was right. i end up with a B in the class. he will give you a review of what is on the test too.

Very boring and tests are hard.
Very cool teacher but may go too fast on certain subject matters.
HE IS AN OKAY TEACHER. YOU HAVE TO COME TO CLASS EVERYDAY AND PAY REAL GOOD ATTENTION. QUIZZEZ=EASY IF YOU PAY ATTENTION AND DO THE HOMEWORK/TESTS=HARD, YOU HAVE TO REALLY STUDY. MOST OF THE PROBLEMS ARE FROM HOMEWORK. HE SHOWS EASIER WAYS HOW TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. ENCINAS LIKES WORD PROBLEMS. STUDY THE WORD PROBLEMS=THEY ARE THE MOST ON TESTS.
This is a teacher who can ultimately confuse students. Only take his class if u r certain that u r gonna hv a clear mind on wat u r gonna learn. good thing is problems on the test are usually just homework problems. But dun Xpect to learn in his class.
His explanations don't always clarify the subject. On occasion, he'll teach the solution methodology incorrectly, but won't catch it until he gets stuck with a different solution. His tests are somewhat difficult because his teaching is a bit lacking, but otherwise he's a good guy trying to help idiots learn math. That deserves some acclamation.
Material covered in class was in tests. Long tests but gave extra time.
He's a good guy, and yes he can be confusing but he works the problems out in the end. His tests hold nothing surprising, if you study your homework and review problems, you're fine. Pay attn to the word problems he solves more than once. It's easy to get points in his class through quizzes and homework.
Took his 5C/55 in Spring 05/06, got an A in both of them. Mr. Encinas has trouble explainning the material, thus you're pretty much on your own to learn the material. His tests are pretty much problems from the review just modified. As for his jokes, a bit unprofessional at times. Besides his wryly facetious jokes, he's an ok professor.
FAIR. INTERESTED IN STUDENTS LEARNING MATERIAL.
i dont like him. he cant explain****! it takes so damn long for him to explain one question. he even got wrong answer for his own answer keyfor the test! not a lot HW compare other teacher, but hard to understand what he talks in the class.. his jokes just like!@#$...so..dont take him unless u have to, at least i believe it.
decent teacher. will spend any time necessary to explain material, will even alter course schedule to meet the learning needs of the class. If you don't understand, just ask. he'll try his best to help you out. oh, and nearly all the questions on the final are taken from previous tests.
enjoyed class, final test long..... but similar to tests. if you ask, he will explain. :)
Quiz and homework questions on tests. Advise: Study for tests and you will do ok
Encinas claimed that if you did all the assignments and attended tutoring then you would surely pass the class, however his teaching is odd because when you try to apply it you can get confused, especially since the book has different applications. Be sure that you purchase a book because there is a ton of assignments that must be done, they also m
He is a good teacher.... not the best... but non the less he is good.... he takes his time in explaining things.... does not mind answering questions.... his tests come straight from the HW, and from the examples on the board.... final comes from previous tests....
He is a good teacher. He is not the best teacher in pcc but he is your best choice for taking math class. He explain the questions clearly and glad to answer your questions. He really take responsibility for his class. And the good news is tests are all from the homework and class work. Really straight forward

He's teaching is seriously bad. He makes tons of mistake on the board which makes us very confused... his method is kind of different from what is shown in the textbook... he sometimes does not even answer what the qns want... if you take him, prepare to do your own self study!
He is by far, the WORST teacher I've ever had! His lectures are useless & extremely long. Plus he doesn't always understand what he's teaching! He can't remember trig functions & often, when asked a question in class, answers a different question or changes the subject! His tests are ENTIRELY created from his confused mind & are most of the grade!
Mr. Encinas is the best math teacher I have ever taken. I am very bad at math and I finally found a teacher who knows how to explain math where I can understand. He is so funny as long as you show up to class and study math you will do fine. Pay attention when he talks, he is not hard to understand. I would recommend him for math 402.
Explains questions when asked. Maybe has high expectations but fair.
patient and understands students who are not good in math.
good teacher...easy to get A..as long as u finish all the hw...u will do well on the test & quiz.....he will give students some points to redo the test...
Mr. Encinas was fair grader, despite a low test score, the final exam helped me out.
He is an easy teacher.
He is pretty good, if you had her, you take it, Don't be hestitate.
Very clear, easy tests. Lectures are boring sometimes, but overall I enjoyed it.
he gives pop quizzes, assigns in class "groupwork" that he will hound you about and **** to you about if you don't get into groups to do. he gives test from which no one has enough time to finish, he kicked us out early once at the end of a test saying he needed to take a piss before his next class. covers more of the 5B book then other teachers.
Ok, He tries to cover a lot of exercises. Anwesr question. Recommended.
Very cool professor not hard at all if you do your homework and study just a bit. I struggled only when I didn't read but other than that its good. Hes also funny at times wouldnt expect it from him but he'll make you laugh for sure..
I never had him college, but it high he was one of my favorite teacher.
i think hes pretty good...its not that hard to take his class....if u do all the homework and listen to what he says...u can pass the class easily
Overall a very good professor. He knows the material and knows how to convey it to the students. Winter Intersession 131 was pretty intense but very manageable due to his routine and organization. Highly recommended for 131.
I don't like his class because he did not let us know the test ahead of time. For example, if we are going to have a test on friday, he told us on tuesday! How would he expect us to study while we are having other classes, too. He always talked about other stuff than math material, and came back to math the last few minutes. He tried to keep up wit
Mr. Encinas is very funny! He says unexpected things (sometimes not related to math) that can make you laugh though they're not always funny. Makes math class more tolerable that way. :) His class is alright; not too easy nor tough. But do all the HW cause they can only help your grade. Overall, VERY nice guy. Brings cookies and treats for us. :)
Objectively speaking, if you want to learn calculus, do NOT take him; if you want to get an A, do NOT take him either. 1st test was easy. However, no one got higher than 80% in the 2nd and the 3rd tests. The 4th and the 5th tests were medium. Final contained some weird problems. His lecture is a good therapy for sleeping disorder. He's also petty.
TAKE HIM!his not very clear with explaining the problems but he gives out practice tests!it's an easy A
Well, he is my worst math teacher ever. He just brings the material from the book and copies to the board. Sometimes you don't even know what he is talking or teaching about. Always make mistake on board and those are student mistake not for a teacher. Most of the time you need to study by yourself, and the tests are from the HW.
Prof Encinas really wants students to get the grade they want and is very helpful. Hes a funny guy if you understand his sense of humor. ALMOST ALL questions on the test come directly from the handout and examples in the book. If your phone rings, you have to bring donuts for the whole class! recommended for calculus!
Class is not a walk in the park. I did not like the proofs but he did not ask too much that. Advise: do homework and go to class if you want a good grade....:)
did NOT like this professor. He takes way too long answering a couple HW questions and then rushes through the chapter. Or, he'll take too long trying to figure something out, and then he rushes through the chapter. Definitely take someone else if math is not your forte.
the same questions from lectures and homework...you either love him or not. But found him very helpul in class and during office hours.
I took him for Math 5A and 5B. He is a very nice and helpful teacher. He is willing to help you during his office hours. There are 5 tests + 1 final. The test is not hard because it's from his lecture and homework. The point is you need to read the book to understand his lecture.I highly recommend his class for people who have strong basic in Math.
very very nice and helpful prof. and very EASY!take him!!
cruelest professor i've ever met...no compassion for his students..doesn't know what he's talking about...horrible teacher
I don't like this guy cuz he's so sarcastic. He always makes fun of his students in a bad way and never realizes that his jokes can hurt his students. Reminder: never sit in the front row cuz he's gonna pick on you almost everyday and make fun of you if you can't answer his questions. His tests are neither too hard nor too easy.
Lame teacher, think's he's funny but he's not. Very sarcastic. Tests are not hard but not easy.. picks on students in a negative way. Take him if you're okay in math, if you need extra help in understanding stay away. This guy rushes through chapters like crazy, and makes student mistakes.
Fair in grading and will go out of his way to help if you study and do the HW. Strict but reasonable.
I took math 5A and B (got A's in both) and his method to ask us questions in class was good. Quizzes and group work also was Ok.
A GREAT GREAT GREAT TEACHER!!!
if your not good in math DON'T TAKE HIM! EVERYTIME WE ASKED A QUESTION HE WAS SAY LOOK AT UR BOOK! more than half the class dropped. tried to help but hes to confusing
If you tkae him, find the way his teaching. H.W. is not a big deal, I just copy the answers. Quiz is easy. Tests are not easy nor hard. He gives the details of the tests. If he says there is a test next Friday, ask him the details this week and find some classmates work on the possible questions. The tests will not be hard for you any more.
HE IS AN AMAZING TEACHER! I absolutely loved him. You have to be in class you have to try and you HAVE to do your hw. Its math ppl you can't just sit there and expect and A you have to work for it. He's very funny. Get's off subject sometimes but its ok. You do the Classwork on the board homework on math xl and turn in all cw once a week! Hes great
What a bad professor. He ALWAYS messes up when he is doing work on the board. His tests are the hardest I have ever taken and nothing like the homework. I would never take his class again. I was a 4.0 student until this class.
previous user is such a liar who never studied. mr.encinas is the easiest math prof you will ever find at PCC. they probably just dont want you to add them or something. he gives out study guides that MIGHT AS WELL BE THE EXAM. take him if you can you wont regret it.
Funny professor and his lectures are clear but he rushes a lot that he speaks really fast that sometimes you won't understand him. LOTS OF HW! Tests are easy. Not bad
do not take his class. Lectures are extremely boring, most of the time did not know what he was doing. The subs were actually much better than him. A LOT OF HW! doesn't even check. no EC no nothing -_- he bailed RITE after finals so i couldn't even discuss my grade with him. one of the worst teachers at PCC. Glad i m out of there
Horrible. Maybe decent for 125, but that's like jr high math. He was probably the most unorganized professor I'd ever seen, spending up to 45 min to solve ONE problem on the board. Because he insisted on making up his own examples, rather than using examples from the textbook, sometimes due to time, he would just have to give up and move on. Awful.
Easy A or B, compared to other math classes I had to take at PCC. Good explanations, broke down the long problems into simpler steps. Exams were fair, lots of computations though. Too many differnt topics in this course.
Took his class in Spring, it is a so so class. If you have finished maht8, i think you will be fine. I do not spend too much time on math, but i get an A at last. Take him if you feel alright with math.
Dont need to say anything. He is the best and easiest teacher in PCC
Pretty cool guy who's nice, and keeps you entertained in the class with his funny stories and examples. Attend every class, do all the hw and classwork, and it's not too hard. You have to study and apply yourself. a bit disorganized and moves SUPER fast. Sometimes i got frustrated with him, but overall he's a good teacher.
He cared about students understanding the concepts and proofs. Long tests but manageable.
nice class, but you have to do all works at the speed of light in class.
He's the WORST teacher I've ever met!His lecture is extremely unclear, dull, and confusing, and most importantly, he makes mistakes every class!!My friend and I are both fed up with him and never listen to his lecture. If u wanna challenge, take him but it's very likely that he would screw up your GPA.
I miss the group work and the explanations in this class. winter was brutal with a lot of homework andlong tests. I had to spent a lot of time studying. Just got my grade card. Peace out.
Mr Encina is a really helpful professor, he care about students a lot. the test is not tricky and not really hard. really give me a lot comfidence about math after took him, highly RECOMMEND.
I like his class and he cancels the class very often. He is helpful. If u are not clear with some problems, u can go and visit his office very often and he will explain them to u very patiently. The tests are really good. He also thinks for the students if the students are getting low grades in his tests. He wants to give extra credit as possible.
He is a kick back teacher but when it comes to homework you have to do textbook and do the work on MATHXL(expect 9-12hrs a week). 9 free absences and sometimes he cancels class. Gives out 1 extra credit. Not great at teaching but lenient in grading.
I loove this Professor!! I used to hate math with passion but he made it seem very easy!! He has a relaxed attitude and gives out alot of extra credit. He even gives out practice tests!in the end the tests are almost the same! I got an A in his class after failing it with another prof with an F!! TAKE HIM you will not be sorry at all!BEST Teacher!
tests are from Hw, unclear lecture since he rushes through everything. However, he does gives extra credit, and no quizes. Final come from 5 previous tests. give 1 take home exam, does care about the student's grade.overall, easy and funny guy. Take him for easy A, not recommended if u plan to go to math 55.
He has the interest of this students in mind all the time. Strict and likes to explain the difficult problems in the book. Tests are long and require studying a lot. Do not recommend it to students who have no time to studie.
Take hime for 5B and 5C. Overall, he's a good guy, give a lot of group work quizes, and 1 take home exam. All the group work that are done in class are all the tests, thus so predictable tests. He makes funny jokes all the time, however, lectures are so unclear and confusing.
Good class for physics. Lots of work. Some sections are harder than others
Encinas' class is awesome. I took him for the 7am (What was I thinking) Calc-2 course. He jokes around a lot, I dont think many people get it though. Test questions are STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOOK. Do every homework problem and you'll pull an A without an issue.
Nice teacher but u do have to study On ur own he rushes thru the notes or goes straight to class work
he comes to class unprepared.we were confused during the lecture. He is knowledgeable, but does not know how to teach.
Good class for a calculus class. Likes to show proofs and formulas.
If you are lazy dont even rerad this, this means this class is not for you. This profesor teach everything very clear, he makes mistakes but he solve them right away. he answear every qs that u have. He also use diffrent methods for u to undestand the material his homework is math, classwork done together as a group.u will learn alot.
Professor Encinas is crystal clear. In class work is helpful, he makes sure you have worked out any kinks before you go home. He isn't very helpful outside of class hours. He can be funny and entertaining which helps in a 3.5 hour math class. He can also be very condescending and a jerk. No service with a smile he gets the job done.
Busy class from beginning to end of period and lots of work, but OK if you review and do homework on line. My first time taking this class with another instructor was a nightmare, now it is a bit easier with practice tests.
His SOOOOOO HARD!!!!!! TONS OF HOMEWORK, YOU GOTTA DO IT AT THE LIGHT SPEED!!! If you take his class, you'll need to spend majority of ur weekends doing homework!!! A LOTT OF HW!!! Don't recommend if you don't have much time or not good at math.
A LOT OF HW!!! You don't have much time to do other CLASSES' HW!!! Gonna drop this class now:( Take his if you are REALLY good at math!!!
His classes are truely filled with work, teaching is a bit fast. Other than that his okay. Talk to him about it and he'd help you. Gives a BIG hint for questions on the test, this is quite helpful. barely any quiz, test's are OK compared to some teachers. Would consider taking this class rather than be on the waiting list.Got an A with high B tests
I got all As in my previous math levels but I think I will get a C or B for this semester, tests extremely hard even though I spend 90% of my time on this class
Mr. Encinas is a really good teacher. He often ask the students to teach problems, but I prefer him much better than the students. Students problem solving make it more confusing. He is helpful but he has a sarcastic humor that people may not get. He is hard though he is fair in his expectations on exams. I would take him again and recommend him.
Helpful class to learn the details of calculus He is patient and explains difficult problems but wants students to read the book first and try problems too
Gives BIG hints on what will be on tests and quizzes! Drops lowest test score. He definitely goes through a lot of stuff quickly so brace yourself and don't slack off and fall behind and you should pass. I would recommend this class for those who are, at least, decent in math for this class.
This is a very fast pace class. Every lecture you learn something new, so don't miss class. Also gives a lot of homework and class work, but it helps in the end.
he really cares if you pass or not. he wasnt easy and went through the material really fast, but if you had a question he will help you understand it. he did tend to skip steps in problems and assumed you knew what he did. his tests were fair, tells you exactly what to look out for
Good class and very fair in grading. He makes sure you understand the material. Tests are hard but he will tell you what topics to concentrate on. Lots of homework and practice. Overall it is a very good class.
Likes to show concepts and proofs. Gave extra-credit several times but it takes work and time to complete assignments. You get out of this class what you put in. Made class time pass by fast
He was a bit unclear at times.
Great word problem explanations Cares about students. Study notes and examples from class work since they can show up on tests
After taking Math125 several times, I sort of lost hope. But I tried again and Mr. Encinas teaching methods made everything clearer. Although he is very fast paced, if you go to class on time, ask questions, and do your homework you should be fine! (Btw he passed me with a B) awesome!
He is the best calc professor i had so far. As long as you practice his classwork, online homework and textbook problems , the test will be super easy. If you dont get his lecture, there are videos on the online homework that shows step by step on how to do a problem. His test problems are easy , not challenging at all.
He is a tough professor. He makes you participate in class. He goes over the classwork pretty quickly. It's already the end of the 3rd week and were already on the 4th chapter.
Good explanations and examples. Homework online and questions from book done in class. I have had some bad professors for calculus and he is clear.
Okay, Yes! It's A LOF OF HW, and you will probably end up doing hw at least 3 hours a day including weekends, but what do you expect? This is college. Professor Encinas is really caring, and will do whatever is in his power to help you pass the class. He even gives practice tests which are so helpful. I will take 7B with him.
good teacher, class is not to hard, also not easy
Encinas seems like a great guy, and a great professor for his other math classes. However, he clearly has no idea what he's doing in Statistics. He teaches directly from the book, and will occasionally give out wrong info(formulas, answers, etc.). I would say if you're going to need STAT 50 anytime soon, look elsewhere for your own good.
i was expecting to get a high C but I got a B. Some sleepless nights reviewing class work were needed for most tests. He was a lenient grader. This class took a good chunk of my time though
Did a good job explaining and breaking down difficult theorems Tests has stuff from class and final test was no surprise A lot of home work Maybe for student decent in math -
If you are slow in learning math and expect a teacher to teach you right, look elsewhere because he goes super quick throughout his lectures and he doesn't know what he's doing. If you are familiar with Statistics and have to retake the course again, then be my guest... take him. He teaches the class as if you already know what to do.
He has patience, but he has a lot of homework. He gave us the practice test before the test.
Hes an alright professor. Hell go over problems to help you understand them. He provides the textbook for free online. He gives practice tests as study guides before the actual tests. However, get ready to do lots of homework online, and make sure to check online often for any upcoming due dates.
Good explanations but a lot new concepts Lots of homework too. This is my second time taking this class and the classwork helps a lot more than just lectures. Hes very helpful with answering question
TERRIBLE at teaching stats. Not bad at teaching other topics such as algebra, but when it comes to stats he literally gives us the wrong equations. Does in class examples wrong, and flat out doesn't know the topic. It is as if we correct and teach him. DON'T take this professor for stats. Im 3/23 with an a, not including half the class that dropped
Took this class at a university before and bummed, now it's easier because explanations are thorough. Stats is a bit hard but you get in what you put in. Gave extra credit points on first test.
He gets the job done with good explanations and clear examples. Online HW is time consuming. Ugh
Encinas tries to make things interesting. Lots of formulas and lots of self reviewing using personal time at home.
Math 5B. You have to read the book before going to class! Otherwise, you might fall behind. During his lecture, he solves a few questions as classwork, and he usually doesn't prove theorems. HW is on Webassign. Total 5 tests 1 final. The good thing about his class is that he gives sample test for each exam, so the exams are not too difficult.
Clear explanations and goes to the point. Explained theorems and proofs. Tests are a bit hard unless you review the class work and test outlines. Hes on leave this semester.
His homework and classwork do not match. Tells us to read the book. If I had to read the book to understand, why would I attend his class? HW and CW feel like I am taking two different math classes. Will not take him again. Decent amount of homework though. Only does a few problem. Rushes though concepts. His HW IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM CW UGH
Clear explanations. He cares about students and grades. Class requires time to study and practice.
Tough class with a lot of new concepts, but Encinas takes the time to explain the ideas and concepts plus gives examples. Heavy on homework. You get what you put in. Decent grader and gives second chances.
Best professor I've ever had in math. I went in knowing that stats was a difficult class for me but Encinas made it the most memorable class at PCC. He was funny, kind, and very helpful. Fair in grading and assigning hw. Attendance and classwork are very important to make it in this class. Studying in groups also helped me a lot
Professor Encinas is really good. HW is on WebAssign and CW is given in class. Tests are very similar to HW and CW. Also, he gave out a useful study guide for exams. If you use the study guide, do the practice tests, and make sure to review all the CW and HW, you'll do well. As long as you make sure to study and do all the work, you'll do well.
This is not the guy you want if math isn't your strong suit. The short time I was enrolled, he blazed through each section, saying "we can't slow down, we need to go faster." If a student had a question he just told them to read the book. The worst part of though is that he REQUIRES you to subscribe to a $100+ website to submit homework. No thanks.
Encinas means well and he is a fair profesor. He is clear on concepts and explanations. Homework might be time consuming but most questions on tests come from class work
Lots of class work. Dont miss class Clear explanations and good pace. I spend time reviewing notes and class work.
His explanations of the theorems and properties used in calculus are very clear. Helpful and very open to questions in class.
Professor Encinas is absolutely amazing. He is a very clear speaker and his ability to slowly explain every step of a process is truly one of a kind.
Clear explanations. Resources provided helped a lot during online semester like lecture notes, recordings, live-lectures, and practice tests. It was manageable to keep up with class pace, online hw and online assignments. Encinas cares about students but expects you to put the work in.
Great online class. Went over exercises and explanations in detail.
He looks passionate to teach students. Stat50 contains many details and was not an easy course for me, but I could get a better grade because he tried to give students more grades if they worked hard. His lecture was very helpful than reading the textbook. You should be diligent to study for Stat50.
Unfortunately this was probably one of the worst classes I've ever had. I really care about learning so this was awful. Really a shame.
Most of the time the guy doesn't even know what he is saying. Students have to correct him, practice tests are wrong and we have to correct him, doesn't respond to emails, and it super unclear on directions. Although he is praised in real life, online is not for him and I don't blame him in a way. I feel just bad for him, I also feel for students.
While being my second time taking Calc 2, Professor Encinas aimed to make sure we knew the material. There were online quizzes to test our knowledge, board discussions, zoom meetings, online office hours Online tests were understandable if you knew the material and don't slack off. Proctorio on last test and Final nade it more fair to all.
Lectures are cristal clear and makes the studying process easier. Online Tests are fair and straightforward, if you study. Very accessible professor online and understanding of students needs. Attend the zoom meetings, review the class notes and class videos to understand proofs. Thanks
This online class requires more attention than the other easier ones. if you work hard then youll do fine. if youre too busy dont take him! also math homework is online and it takes time.
Professor Encinas truly cares for his students. He takes the time to explain each difficult problems carefully and slowly. Sometimes, he makes quite a few mistakes in his lectures but he eventually corrects them or students spot the mistakes for him. If you attend every lecture, then getting an A is not difficult.
Professor Encinas is a well respected professor. He is knowledgeable. He understands the concept that he is teaching. He shows respect to every student and appreciate the students question. During this online environment, he provides additional resources to enhance the understanding of his lecture. Though, he moves quickly and gives heavy tests.
Professor Encinas was on of the best math teachers I've ever had. He really made stats very easy to understand. His lectures on zoom were basically him going over the work sheets and the tests and quizzes were similar questions. He is always willing to help answer any questions in class or in office hours. He cares that students do well and pass.
He made the class enjoyable. No question is ever a dull question! He cares about his students and is clear about his exams. Study well and you will succeed.
let me cut to the chase. The professor is alright if the best options are gone. Graded on 5 tests and quizzes. Tests are nothing like quizzes so don't be too reliant on them, they are useless. Lectures and quizzes test you on the basics and when test comes, he gives problems you've never seen before but the "same" concept. Overall, mid professor.
Takes a lot of points off for small mistakes. Tests aren't the most difficult but it also doesn't match with the homework. His quizzes are completely different from the lecture. Rushes through the lecture/topics. Doesn't provide many examples in class. Gives a big extra credit assignment at the end. Take him if you have no other choices.
He is a great math professor! He makes things really clear and really puts in the work to help students when they have questions. Lots of studying but I highly recommend him.
He explains everything thoroughly and accurately in simple terms. You will need the book to pass this class with the online homework
He was unfriendly at the beginning but became more forgiving later in the semester. Homework didn't always match the quiz/test and sometimes there was not enough classwork examples. He cared for his students so you could ask questions in class or come to office hours for additional help. Some self-studying textbook and online videos also helped.
He was quite a difficult professor to work with and was not understanding and extremely boring. Your grade is out of 950 500 from 5 exams and 200 from final, and rest from hw and quizzes. Mess up on one exam or have some tech issue then too bad. Good luck to those who have to take this class because the one they wanted were filled up.
Great instructor and clear. Just go to class and keep up and you can make a B. Study and make an A.
Take him if you are good at math, the tests are heavy but doable. he will drop the lowest quiz and the lowest discussion, the lowest test will be replaced by the final exam percentage if it helps. He will give you a big extra credit near the end of the semester, if you score full credit on it, it will boost your grade for 8%.
Runs through lessons too quickly. Lectures aren't taught thoroughly as he just reviews his notes. The homework resources aren't helpful but overall you learn more from the homework than from him. Draws amazing graphs though. Overall, expect a lot of homework and be prepared to learn A LOT in one day.
He expects you to write out every single detail when solving a problem, even if you get the correct answer by showing your work. No, you have to literally list out every single step. It's pretty annoying.
Very clear with concepts and examples. Helpful during office hours.
I did not like this class at all, I took it because it appeared he had good reviews but i was WRONG this class is so bad if its your last option take it somewhere else. He is very picky with work even though his points are clear. He also calls you out in class if youre not doing well. His notes and lectures are bad its just chicken scratch
English obviously isn't his first language so his lectures might not be the "best-sounding," but he's not bad at all like some reviews on here say. If you work hard and are good at math, then take him. Not a lot of tests and homework is very manageable, as long as you don't procrastinate. HW is on WebAssign (easy), Tests and Quizzes are easy too.
avoid at all costs. rude to students, teases them and not in the tactful funny way. helps students only to the bare minimum. Concepts aren't explained well, and he expects you to study purely off the notes you've taken in class, which he goes over 2 math problems in the 2 hours of lecture. strict on students yet his lecture planning is abysmal.
Lectures are clear and detailed so that each problem process is identifiable. Tests are fair and straightforward. The professor gives many chances to improve grade. He is caring, very approachable, and no question is dumb to ask. Strict with attendance and being late to class, most times.
Read the other reviews. Don't take him. He's very unaccomodating and his tests are too hard compared to what we are exposed to in class.
This is a good teacher, he is very easy-going, I often ask him questions, he answers me very enthusiastically. His exam is very simple, a total of five tests and a final exam of 180 points, in which there are 20 extra points, so its score should be 200, I was lucky to get 180. My final score is 97%.
I had fallen behind at the beginning but practice tests and classwork helped with test grades. Had to truly dedicate time to this class to understand formulas and material.
He is always unorganized during lectures. He assigns tests and homework starting at 5pm on Friday due by Sunday night, sometimes with no heads up. Not an understanding guy either.
He gives many opportunities to raise your grade. If you don't get an A that means you didn't try because we have a big Extra credit opportunity. He's also very nice and ready devote his time in order for you to understand something you're stuck with.
Very confusing lectures where he often confuses himself and then spends all of his time trying to find his mistake. Expected to read the textbook and take notes by yourself before doing homework. Would fail to go over practice problems and leave people very confused. Homework does not help and is often very confusing. Would not recommend.
Statistics is challenging but I have found this course to be able interesting . Prof will go over definitions and examples, rather, carefully.
Easy to follow videos and lecture notes. Example exercises and supplemental vids are very helpful. Class is time consuming though.
Doesn't teach much but he goes over notes that he did years ago and explains them carefully. Lots of classwork but don't have to turn them in. Your grade relies on frequent quizzes and very few discussions. There are five tests total and one final. He's very understanding when you ask questions and does not judge how foolish they are.
I absolutely clicked with his style of explaining. I plan to tailor my schedule around his teaching schedule to get him again. If you express a genuine interest in the subject he will explain beyond the basic concepts. He answers all questions, even the basic questions about fractions.
Thinking taking online calculus is easier? Not for him. He advices about quizzes and exams a few days in advance. Not enough time. Uses proctorio for exams (basically spyware). The way he runs this class is super unorganized. An unholy amount of webassign homework. He is not an understanding guy either. Glorified math teacher attitude.
Math 003. College Algebra His tests aren't too bad and he gives practice tests. He gives you literally everything that you need to pass, so as long as you practice and do the online homework you should be fine. Definitely one of my favorites
he's a nice guy! not the best prof. his lectures were pointless for me, and would oftentimes make the material even MORE confusing with his explanations. there were so many quizzes that i would have fever dreams about missing the window for one every week. the textbook was my bestie and got me the A+. he IS understanding though! tries his best!
He thoroughly explains each concept in terms that makes it easy to understand. He allows the use of a formula sheet on all tests instead of memorizing all the formulas. In the end, he helps you achieve the best possible grade!
Over half the class dropped within 2 weeks and grading is unreasonably hard. Tests grade is 50% online and 50% written. Received 90%+ on online portion but test grade was a 70% because he didn't like how I solved problems the way I was taught in HS. No partial credit given for work, lectures and handwriting are VERY messy. Would never recommend.
No question is a stupid question. He cares about his students. Study well and ask questions during office hours. Or trough Webassign ask your professor. Tests are fair and he checks your solutions for partial credit.
Lecture heavy and tests are based on handouts he explains in lecture videos. Practice tests helped and lets the class use formula tables. Homework online is bearable. Prepare to spend time reviewing material.
Encinas is an excellent teacher. He truly cares about his students; he always displayed empathy. He was gracious to offer extra credit opportunities and send ample reminders for approaching assignments. I enjoyed the format of his class and appreciate his video lessons. You will do well in his class if you care too.
Great professor! Took him for math 003 stem algebra. He gives his students all the materials needed to succeed such as practice test and clear notes. Homework is graded based on accuracy and there are a fair amount of quizzes throughout the semester but only worth 5ish points. If you put the time you can get a good grade.
Professor is knowledgeable and gave tests, online homework and quizzes from material in lectures. Final test is comprehensive but doable if you follow study timeline. Not easy course but manageable if you put the time in
Clear explanations and prof makes class interesting. This course covered a lot of topics but professor let us use a formula sheet for the final test. Lots of study time needed.
One of the least organized professors I have ever dealt with , his lecture videos are him reading from his laptop like a robot not worth watching , and is the type to get a kick out of misleading/tricking students on the tests , no clear outline or area to study for. His questions on each test are not bad but he makes hard to prepare for.
He made me want to learn math. No question is ever a stupid question during office hours. He cares about his students and is clear about his exams. Study well and ask questions and you will pass.
This class and professor were worth my time and effort.
Average professor, Terrible person. Unfair treatment regarding missing assignments/exams due to religious events.
Lectures are dense, but the professor is understanding if you ask questions. Textbook and practice tests are key for success. Unstuckstudy ai also helped me prepare.
The best math teacher I've had! He explains topics clearly, reviews homework ,and stays to help. His jokes lighten tough topics, and he's super approachable.Missing class is easy to make up with posted materials.Deadlines are fair, extra credit is offered, and success is easy if you try.Class is fun, engaging, and well-organized.Highly recommend!
He is very good at his job but he gets frustrated when the class doesn't participate, and will threaten with a pop quiz if we don't speak up. This may be his style of teaching, but it's one that's not for me and one that may not be for you as well.
He made me want to learn math and made the class enjoyable. Answered all questions. He cares about his students and is clear about his exams. Study well for tests and final.
Best Professor - Take if you want to learn Cares about students and wants them to succeed. Everything is clear and organized. Provides extra resources, practice tests, reminders for quizzes and tests, homework makeup, and extra credit. Very understanding and will help work out any issues. Requires extra effort and work, but forces you to learn.
Clear explanations. Stat50 is one of the harder math subjects to get the hang of, but he is always ready to help and answer any questions you have. He assigns online homework and has a quiz a week. Your final is based on the previous tests. He expects a bit of participation but is overall really nice. Work with other people, it'll help!
His lectures are clear and he is really helpful. I recommend it.
Lectures are clear and detailed. And he requires complete solutions on tests and quizzes. Helpful lecture videos and notes. Homework is time consuming.
This was my worst class experience at PCC before transferring to UC Davis. Lectures are exhaustingly long, not engaging, the professor does not prepare. He makes a lot of passive-aggressive jokes while naming students. He expects you to make Precalc the focus of your life. To study 15+ hours outside of MWF class 1-3:30. Ruined my mental health.
nice guy, genuinely wants you to learn; not a good teacher though. lectures are convoluted & confusing, don't bet on them to teach you much. offers a bit of extra credit. more than avg bit of HW, but it's not hard & he does some of it in class. would pick on ppl to participate a lot initially, but stops doing so later on in the sem.
It's very important to attend class as he goes over a lot of material. Be prepared for a lot of hw!! He always tries his best to help out students and is understanding with grading and late assignments. I honestly enjoy his classes. He's crystal clear with material
Flipped class, you learn outside the class and then you come into the class prepared. If you don't like that, get out. I did good in this class because I already took stats before, if I didn't know the concepts I would have dropped fast. Despite that, I believe he tries his hardest to make sure everyone knows the concept and is ready for the test.
Flipped class. Good explanations and clear examples. Have to spend time preparing for this class. He involved things that were relatable.
His teaching is easy to follow online but needed to plan well my time. He provides so many resources and additional materials: example videos from textbook, practice tests, extra credit, etc. He is super caring and wants to see his students succeed.
Dives into the middle of concepts, no set curriculum, and no preparation makes for exhausting/hard to follow lectures in which it seems like he's trying to figure it out too. It doesn't help that M9 is 6 units worth of content. Calls out absentees and calls on students/fabricates quizzes to check understanding if none participates TAKE SOMEONE ELSE
he is a fair instructor. review for the final was a must
Makes difficult concepts clear and easy to understand. Have to spend time in writing my own notes and doing online homework.
dont take this dude online, sucks and he doesnt care alot about the class and can make concepts more confusing multiple occasions where he would use a quiz generator to generate quizzes and marks right answers as wrong and you have to reach out for him to do anything about it. also makes you copy notes 1to1 or Ur grade sucks otherwise. GG go next
Professor is knowledgeable and explains all the details needed. Class is time consuming because there are twice a week or three comprehension quizzes. Worth the effort with good time management. Online homework.
I enjoyed his teaching method with examples in lecture and group work to practice. Very structured and strict but understanding of students struggles with math.
Clear and organized online class. Took it as a review and there was a lot of reading involved
