Tough to understand, too fast on powerpoints, and not really what I expected class to be, too much focus on structural makeup of plants rather than the cultural botany it is supposed to be.

For the most part, he's a groovy professor. Make sure you listen and write down word-for-word. Study up-coming chapters before the exams...he may sneak a question in there.

He teaches a difficult Cultural Botany course. I don't know if it was just the big auditorium, or the too quick too many notes, but this guy wasn't so great.

all you had to do for this class was take notes, even though he's hard to understand sometimes, he writes it all out on powerpoint so you can still understand! I learned so much in this class, plus MC tests!

Arriagada is difficult to understand and speaks way too fast. Power points are boring and total repeats of the text. He is known to make stupid and random comments. His class is easy, if you read the book, but be prepared to fall asleep in lecture.

Good proffesor. Gives a lot of notes, but if you follow along in the book you can just highlight certain information that he goes over. Exams are directly from book and are detailed for the most part so know the info in the book well.

You take a lot of notes! He covers things that aren't on the test and skips over some that are. The test is from the chapters in the book and he is really helpful if you go see him in his office.

Take this class for an easy MGM and Area B Class. No Homework at all. Just attend lectures and take notes and study for the exam and you should do fine. He is easy to understand after the first day and isn't as hard to understand as some say! Excellent Professor! Take this class!

He did curve some of the test alot. But he needed to unless the entire class would fail or get C's or worse. Labs count towarads half grade so make sure you do good on lab work.

What a great class! No homework at all. We had 4 tests based completely on the notes he gave in class and we have a final. Very nice guy and gives extra points on the tests. Attend class and don't fall alsleep and you will be fine! easy A!

This was a difficult class to stay awake in. The professor is really nice and willing to help. He is also really passoinate about plants, but he lectures from only powerpoints which get very boring.

i wouldn't say this class is an easy A, but definitely close to it. you need to attend class but sometimes you get let out early and its actually more interesting then one would expect. tests all have progressively more questions then the previous, and the final is more then 50% questions from tests already taken, nice professor very passionate!

This has been the easiest bio class I've taken so far. As long as you take notes and sutdy them before the test, it's an easy A. He tells you the day before the test what you need to study from your notes. The labs are incredibly simple. He is hard to understand with his accent though. Don't skip lecture. He curves the tests & it helps!

Although I am sure that Dr. Arriagada is very intelligent, his lectures border on incomprehensible - to the point that I feel I have wasted an hour of my life each time I attend. As a 31 Y.O. non-trad, I do not like having my time wasted. Exams are easy; read the book, skip most lectures. Lab SUCKS - I am saying this EMPHATICALLY! Lab is useless.

I really liked this class, it is much better than 151. He knows what he is talking about and the tests are almost completely on the notes in class. Just go to class and it shouldn't be too hard. Overall, pretty easy.

Its somewhat hard to understand his accent, especially when he bases his tests on his lecture, which he doesn't always provide notes for. You never really know what to expect on the tests and they cover almost 8 chapters at a time. If you aren't interested in this subject, don't take it.

incredibly boring the tests don't come from the notes, study the book, he gives you like 5 chapters per week to look over for the test, look in the book, he won't tell you to but do it, if you fail every test and get an A in lab you will still get a C so do well in lab cuz the test can be hard!

He has a slight accent, so make sure you sit somewhere where you won't be distracted in lectures. The exams are pretty simple. 90% of questions come from his lecture, and the other 10% come from the textbook. If you are short on time, I recommend just looking at your lecture notes to get at least a B on the exams.

Class is online you have 7 unit assignments and two other projects. It is a selfpaced class but there are due dates but I doubt anyone has turned everything in ontime.

He's really nice, but he seemed just as bored with the material as we all were. He never used the book I spent a lot of money on and his accent is hard to understand sometimes. Like I said, nice guy though.

Really interesting guy. Very nice and Helpful. I went into his class dreading it. Now I really am into botany, and I wish I could take more classes with him. His accent is thick and he pronounces words differently, this is true. But overall, seems like a great guy.

Dr. Arriagada is a very talented teacher and does well with freshmen. He is very willing to help outside of class if you visit his office and has many office hours. He does have an accent but after the first week you don't notice it much. I would highly recommend.

Nice teacher. BUT..Tests are based totally on his powerpoints. He never gives you enough time to copy the powerpoint notes and does not put anything online!! Then tells you not to copy something down and then puts it on the test. Jsut tells you to memorize!

Online course. 7 assignments 2 papers. Very easy. You can skip all the odds on the assignments and he won't even notice. All 98/100. If your assignment is one day late its one pt off. No need to be on time. Go at your own pace. A little time consuming. If you're looking to get an 'A' but not learn, thing is the course for you.

Easy easy class. If you need to boost your science GPA take Cultural Botany with him. 7 units with questions that you have to turn in and the answers are in the text. One paper about the importance of plants and an assignment that involves listing plant products in various food items. Grades things very quickly which is nice

He is kind of hard to understand, and don't expect an easy A. Go to lecture and take notes. When he goes through the previous exam, write the question and answers down because you'll probably see the exact same question on another exam. Take lab seriously and you'll do fine

The tests through the semester were tougher if you didn't review lecture notes, but thats all his tests are on. Assignments are difficult at all just make you think. The final was pretty simple..

Arriagada's lectures were definately boring. I often had a hard time understanding everything he said (his families from Spain). His tests are entirely from his lecture notes which can also be found on d2l so you learn while studying. The class is pretty straight forward. The tests are dense but you have all the information in your notes to do well

disorganized powerpoints, some of the information he teaches is inaccurate, he cites Wikipedia, which he tells you not to do.He gives you tips on how to make an effective powerpoint when all of his powerpoints are the worst I've ever seen. I would recommend taking this class with someone else.

He is a great Prof. wants every one to learn and is very approachable. He tests on what he leactures in class but if you do not have a clear understanding of it you must read that section of the book and you will do fine.

45% got a D or lower on the last exam. He babbles on about information not relevant to the test, yet formulates the questions to be knit picky. DO NOT take with Arriagada.

We watched a lot of videos! His slides are scattered and he tends to put the same stuff in over and over again, which makes it hard to take notes. But it was a fun class and he is really a great guy. If you have questions, he's pretty helpful.

Professor just reads from slides and goes on random tangents. Everything is from notes and book. Easy assignments make up for harder exams. I would not take this class again personally.

Show up to class, pay attention in lecture. Very straightforward exams, most questions come directly from his lectures or the book. I do not like plants (except for bryophytes and ferns) so I had trouble motivating myself to study. But, like I said, show up, pay attention, and you will learn something AND get an "A."

Willing to help you and is knowledgeable on the subject. Class is boring and not mandatory, he just reads off the slides. which is what the tests are based off, but they are online. He's hard to understand. YOU DO NOT NEED THE BOOK..

He is a very nice man, but his class does not follow guidelines he mentions. He puts all the power points on D2L and teaches right off them. On his exams, he tests you on information that you have not let learned or will not learn. Take this class online. I heard it is easier and less stressful.

Decently easy online class. 7 easy online assignments that you basically take answers from the book. 1 assignment that is a paper that is roughly 3-5 pages. Another assignment that is walking through a grocery store writing down plants in foods. No tests, quizzes or final. Overall easy and he probably doesn't even look at much of the assignments.

Make sure you bring your phone with the class. He goes through lecture material so fast that you can't possibly listen and take notes at the same time. No lectures are posted online. Test material is taken directly from lecture so show up to class. Four papers are also required but all the answers can be found in the book and paraphrased for an A.

If you get less than an A, you've worked at getting less than an A. This goes for the 3 classes (gen ed or not) that I've taken with him. Outside of classes, he will do anything that he can to help no matter the situation at hand, if he can help he will. So stop researching... and register for his class. A's baby.... all day

Dr. Arriagada was though to understand. Although he knew what he was talking about at times it sounded as if he was talking to himself. The exams are very hard, if you haven't had biology for a while expect a hard time. No attendance mandatory but all the points you get are from 3 unit exams and a final exam. Would not take him again.

He is an amazing professor. Even though it was an online class but he answered emails. He grades easily. He doesn't give us any quiz, no mid term, no final. All we needed to is assignment from the book ans submit it on time. Then straight A

Great professor, very willing to help you if you need it. Tests are hard, and there are no other assignments to help bump up your grade with the exception of lab, but you can do decently well on them if you read through the PPTs and attend lecture. He adds extra points to everyone's score if there are questions that few people got right.

He can be very hard to understand sometimes. He goes through the powerpoints so quick its hard to write good notes, and if you get behind or miss a class the powerpoints he puts on D2L are very disorganized and different from the ones he does in class. Your grade is only based on tests and they are extremely hard and there is too much info on them.

Don't bother buying the very expensive book, he doesn't teach out of it at all. Tests are based only on his lectures and be sure to take notes quickly since the lecture notes he posts online are different than those he uses in class. He's a smart guy, but not a great professor. Generally disorganized, I didn't learn much.

His lectures are dry and boring. He tends to ramble on about unimportant things. He is not clear about what will be on exams (or when they will be) and he does not post his powerpoints that he goes over in class. The grade is based on a few exams and only 4 essays. I do not recommend this class.

Arriagada is not the teacher to take if you want an easy A. That being said, he is very helpful and cares a lot about his students. He can be a tough grader at times, and he expects a lot out of his students. If you are a hard worker and show up to class, you should have no problem passing. Assignments are very easy, while tests are tougher.

Prepare to take many notes very quickly. Most tests are based off of lecture PowerPoints which aren't always posted in the most organized manner on D2L. Instructions for assignments can be vague but if you try your best you should still pass. Very knowledgeable and passionate about course matter. Friendly and caring outside classroom.

if you hate science like I do take this class! You just fill out 8 different worksheets for each Unit and turn them in. You have two weeks to complete every unit and then have 2 assignments at the end of the semester. You can work ahead (I would because some of the worksheet are long - All answers are in the book though) Easy A.

The online class is self paced and is made up of two assignments and seven "worksheets." However, to get an A you need to spend a lot of time each of these and put in a lot of details.

Professor Arriagadas lectures are very boring. He literally just reads off from the slides. Exams cover 60% of total grade and the rest is lab. The TA wasnt as helpful. TA graded the lab papers very unfairly.

The COVID-19 situation, although not the professors fault, made the class horrible. I did not receive one email about any change in the class, and had to search through the D2L to find out that I had missed one of only a few exams in the class because they had only posted a notice with a few days notice.

This class consists of 7 worksheets and 2 papers. I honestly don't think he even reads the worksheets or papers that closely, just get them done on time. The worksheets can be boring but they're very easy and you can easily get an A. I took this as a PSEO student just for extra credits and it was very easy.

Class was graded by exams and labs (60/40). I don't learn well from lectures anyway, so his lectures didn't have much impact but he could be hard to understand and he didn't engage the class very well. If I didn't like biology as much as I do, this class could have been much harder. The lab coordinator, Dr. Wagner, was smart and down-to-earth.

Dr. Arriagada is a kind man, teaching wise I found it EXTREMELY hard to understand his lectures and powerpoints. His powerpoints were super vague and out of order. The D2L layout of his class was poor, if you missed a lecture it was near impossible to know what he went over in class. Don't recommend this prof unless you are ready to teach yourself.

gives many lectures and tests account for 70% of the grade. review handouts are in no way helpful as he barely has a quarter of a page describing what to study for, leaving you to study all the powerpoints and lectures from the start of the semester to the present.
