The best math prof you will ever take. I HIGHLY recommend him. He's an amazing teacher and his tests are really easy. I easily got an A without any extra credit. Math is my worst subject. He drops the lowest test score, and he adds like 20 pts of extra credit to the next lowest.
Hands down the best professor I have ever had thus far. I am awful at math but he makes everyone feel comfortable to openly say "I DON'T UNDERSTAND, PLEASE CLARIFY." Professor Gavillan is funny, and knows how to relate to his students. I will be taking him again for Applied Calc.
HE IS AWESOME WISH HE WAS MY PROFESSOR FOR ALL MY CLASSES
Eager to help where needed, available in the TLC if needed for additional support. If you put the effort he will work with you to ensure you learn the material. Wish he could teach a wider range of classes. Amazing you will not be disappointed if you show up ready he will show up to help you pass.
Watch his lecture videos, and you won't fail. Everyone that takes him loves him, and there is absolutely no confusion in that environment. The man will literally stop his class until he feels like everyone is on the same page. JORGE FOR PRESIDENT 2016
He makes sure that everyone understands before he goes on. Answers every question I have until I fully understand it; stayed after class to help as well. Excellent teacher and makes it a fun class. Love him!
Good teacher but make sure you stay on schedule with taking the math chapters. He will help you if you just ask.
Mr. Gavillan is an amazing professor! I've never been good at math but he makes sure you understand and is very clear when explaining things. Sticks to schedule. Offers extra credit for pop quizzes but they don't count against you. I would definitely recommend this professor.
Hands the best teacher I have ever had for Math. Definitely knows what he is talking about. Makes you engage in class which helps with understanding. Patient. I had signed up for a class that had cancelled he was open for hybrid class so I took it. I am so glad I did he is just freaking awesome.
The nicest professor you'll ever have. He always makes class lectures fun and will help you until you understand the material.
Jorge was my favorite professor this semester. He's great for people who don't really like math. He's patient and will go over topics until you understand them. I'm already signed up to take another class from him next semester.
Professor Gavillon cares if you pass. He also has no problem stopping in the middle of class to answer questions, and help you out. I wish this Professor taught everything I needed to take. You have to do the work, but he is always there to help you out whenever you need it. I recommend this Professor 100 percent!!
Outstanding teacher. If you struggle with me this is the guy. You need to come to class. This is not a teacher you can not show up for because of the structure of the class. If you struggle he will work his butt off to help you get there. STRONGLY recommended.
Mr. Gavillan is the best math teacher I've ever had. I took him for 2 classes and signed up for a 3rd. He is funny, great at explaining concepts, and doesn't mind answering any question you have. 10/10 would (and will) take his classes again.
I took Prof. G for Intermediate, Liberal Arts, & Stats. He is such an awesome professor & really cares about his students
Mr. gavillan is amazing! Math is not my best subject but he really pushes you. I would take a math class with him again without a doubt. Best math teacher ever!
Awesome professor, will be taking math with him again.
Mr gavillan is amazing. Math has never been my best subject, but he explains the problem over and over until the students understand. Math hw is not too time consuming. If you struggle with Math I highly recommend Mr. Gavillan.
Took this teacher for intermediate, never been great at math. He helped me with any issues I had and was quick to respond to emails. I will for sure be taking more of his classes!
Jorge is hands down the best mathematics professor out there! He cares about his students and is always doing everything he can to help you pass! He is a grade A professor!!! You will have no regrets!
Took this teacher for statistics and he was WONDERFUL! Would definitely recommend.
Jorge is honestly the best professor I've ever had. He truly cares about your success and is possibly the most patient person I've ever met. He can lecture for 20 minutes and if someone asks him to start from the beginning, he does so without complaint because he wants everyone to understand before be continues. Loved his class!! EXCELLENT
Grate math teacher !!!! Would recommend. He is very helpful.
explains problems so you understand and helps a lot
Professor Gavillon is an amazing teacher. He is always there to help you in need whenever you have a question. He gives you many opportunities to pass the class and is by far the best professor I have had.
very good at explaining the problem and always happy to help if you dont understand
In STA 2023, we had a big project that we worked on all semester. It was in like 7 parts but it was spread out nicely. You arent overwhelmed with work, but you do have deadlines. He is very nice and funny. I enjoyed being in his class. As long as you do your work and turn everything in on time, youll get a good grade. Def my favorite professor!
I took him for intermediate math online and he was so great. If I missed any assignments hed reply back to me and help me figure out what to do. He was so understanding if you miss something and always will help you if you have any questions.
Amazing professor, and I cant wait to take his class again next year. So my advice would be print out the step by step and study it by repetition. I didnt have his videos to help because he took them down and tried to reload but had no voice. So he said he couldnt put them up. So I relied on printing the hw and the how to do step by step
Mr.G is the BEST! He really does care about his students. He teaches very well and does not go on unless everyone understands! tons of extra credit. Quizzes are at home. He is an Awesome teacher and I have been with him for two semEsters and about to be a third! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! tOOK HIM FOR COLLEGE ALGEBRAAND INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA.
absolutely amazing. explains things well and is always down to help you. such a kind man
You will have to work for your grade, but if you struggle he is always available and willing to help you. There is a large project due at the end, but it is broken up in each class. AGAIN if you are struggling in his class contact him and he will help you.
One of the best professor's I've had so far. He genuinely cares if you understand the lecture and would repeat something five times just to make sure you get it. I took his class over the summer and the class just revolved around a big final project. He's lenient with late work and will give you a couple points at the end to help your final grade.
Took Mr. Gallivan for College Algebra over the summer. Has a bit of a different teaching style where you do the lectures outside of class, and do the homework in class with a partner. Pretty good class and pretty easy too if you participate well.
I have taken his course for both MAC2233 and college algebra. If you are a student who struggles in math courses, I would 10/10 recommend Mr. Gavillan. He truly that cares that you succeed and does not make things harder than it needs to be. Ton of opportunities for extra credit, show up to class, and try your best and you will pass.
Jorge has a different teaching style than most, you do the lecture online then do the homework in class. This is very effective and he will help you and make sure you understand whatever you need. I took him for College algebra will take him for statistics. He offers a lot of extra credit, curves the exams, and does the review similar to exam.
Fantastic guy. Was always in a good mood. Very responsive to questions and easy to approach. Possibly the best professor I've ever had. My only nitpick with him was that he did cancel class rather frequently. 9/10, would recommend!
Professor Gavillan is an amazing teacher and will go out of his way to make sure you understand what is being taught! I can easily say he is BEST TEACHER AT PHSC!
Jorge Gavillan is an amazing professor! He knows what he's doing and will go above and beyond to help you pass his class. Funny guy too, definitely participate so you can understand the work. At first this class was face to face but eventually transitioned to online due to COVID-19. I will continue to take any math course if he is teaching it.
Took online stats. I would have really enjoyed the class had it not been during the Covid-19 pandemic. Everything revolved around a project, broken down into 6 parts. Homework was easy+short. He always extended due dates. I kinda never really knew what was going on. But I passed with an easy A. Dont need book nor any access code. No proctored exams
Good Class! All about a survey project, including 20-25 pages paper and a final video presentation. It's divided into 6 parts so you won't feel overwhelmed. He is very flexible with due dates and makes videos explaining everything. Also, there is an APA Assistant that helps us with the paper and PowerPoint presentation format. She is awesome too!
Nice and cool guy! But would not recommend. Lectures were very short and vague, and didn't teach you a whole lot. Took 3-4 days to reply to messages. When I asked for help, he offered me ways to bring up my grade rather than actual help with the course material. But he's easy going, and will reopen tests/quizzes for you if you forget to do them.
Pretty cool guy. Class was based on a project that is divided into 6 parts. Very lenient with submission dates. Unfortunately his lectures are very boring and monotone. Few homework quizzes but they are very. Book is not required.
really sweet and caring for his students! easy a
I took him for intermediate algebra passed his on dec 11,2020. Im taking him for college algebra come January 2021. He is the best professor ever! And he truly cares for each student! He wants you to pass and you will ! He is flexible, understanding, and this class was easy! math is my worst subject! Ever! Im clueless! You wont regret it. Take him
The best professor I have ever taken.I took him 3 times for 3 different classes and passed in all of them although I am a bit weak in this subject, he really cares about your grade. He is easily reached outside of class, whenever you have a question about anything he replies pretty quickly. Also,he is understandable if you may need extra time.
He could have just assigned us to read from the math book and I'd learn more. I had to revert back to old notes from other teachers just to understand his way of explaining. I gave him a 2 only because he really WAS SO NICE but just did not teach well. Spoke too fast and the class was supposed to be an hour and 15, he'd finish it in 20 minutes. :(
Nice professor, responds to emails timely. However, seems to be disorganized when it comes to modules and lectures. Lectures sometimes feel rushed, could be that he has some sort of time crunch. Gives good extra credit, and outlines the final and midterms clearly. Try not to miss class, as his recordings are not always there (learned the hard way).
Very nice professor, however, he seems to really be lacking in the grading for his statistics class. Keeps moving around the schedule CONSTANTLY, grades weeks after turning in assignments, and is not very attentive and present for his statistics class. Also thought it was unprofessional that his girlfriend was laying in bed behind him in lectures.
Took his statistics class online. Other than a few easy homework assignments, the class revolved around a 6 part paper. He records his zoom lectures and gives really easy step by step instructions on how to do all parts of the paper. He also is very willing to privately review your paper with you. He is also flexible with due dates. He was awesome.
Took him for intermediate algebra, college algebra, & statistics. Didnt need book or myaccesscode for stats. If you miss turning something in, he will open it back up for you to turn it in. Whatever it is you missed. He wants each individual to pass. Assignment was a 6 part paper based on a statistical survey. & a powerpoint presentation. Easy A
super understanding, makes sure everyone understands the topics and what were learning. you can contact him for help and he will do all he can! taken him for 3 semesters and do great in his classes due to all his help and teaching style!
Don't listen to the nit-picky reviews lol. He is the best math professor I've ever taken. Wants you to succeed and does whatever he can to make sure that happen. Isn't conceited and is def not a know-it all professor. Finishes lectures early too! Taking him for applied Calculus.
Doesn't really explain anything. I took his zoom class and he would just show you the formulas for the section and get straight into examples. I would recommend getting the my math lab for this class unless you're okay with teaching most of it to yourself. He is very nice though and would answer questions during class. Was also very flexible.
Hard to reach. Poor grading quality.
This teacher is a gem. The grade is based on 1 HW quiz a week, that is pretty easy. (make sure to do it it impacts the grade a good bit), and a semester project. He is Very easy going and understand. Wouldn't say it is an easy A but it certainly isn't a Hard A.
Best stats class ever. 1 hw quiz a week that you can use the textbook on. A big paper that we work on the whole term (but it's broken into 6 parts and he helps A LOT with how to do everything). Overall, this was a really good class and he is very kind and understanding. If you are taking stats and don't love math... take it w Professor Gavillan
He's awesome
I took Professor Gavillan's class over the summer. We worked on a semester-long project that was broken up into 6 parts. There were a few quizzes. No exams. He helps you with the project through zoom so I'd suggest attending the meetings. Super understanding and will extend due dates/re-open assignments if you ask. Such a great teacher!!
took this professor over the summer for a stats, there was no exams, only a few quizzes with 5-9 questions each multiple choice and open note on canvas. Six part project which was interesting and fun. Professor is very easy going and understanding, grades late but will have everything done by the end of the semester. I would recommend him for sure
I had Professor Gavillan on zoom. His class was a waste of time and money I took him in the spring of 2020. He kept us on zoom between 7 and 30 minutes just to give you the formulas and that is it.
His course consisted of 3 quizzes, 2 Tests (midterm/final), and homework assignments on a system called ALEX. The only thing was that the ALEX assignments were very time-consuming. He also talked really fast in his lectures and it was hard to keep up with the notes sometimes, but he always posted a copy of the notes to canvas after class.
Prof G is amazing!! I was sure statistics was going to be rough, but he is GREAT! You have one major essay that is broken down within the semester. There are tables and stuff you have to do but he will help you every step. It is not an easy A you will have to put in the work. You have NO test just hw and the essay. Take him!
The professor will ensure you come out of this class with a foundation to understand statistics. This class is not an easy grade, and I missed 50% of the course (lectures were available for review). One thing at a time and a deep breathe, this class will cause you to think, My brain hurt but it felt good, I learned to analyze everything.
Really nice guy, pretty flexible with deadlines and overall he definitely wants everyone to succeed. But he also moves class to zoom A LOT (like 8 times out of 16 classes so far this semester.) So, if you're like me and prefer in-person classes because it's harder for you to focus and actually learn from zoom lectures, keep that in mind.
The teacher is very nice. Most of the class is him going over examples rather than teaching the material. I took the in person class so that I could have a teacher teach me. He also moved the class to zoom rather when it was meant to be an in-person class. I would not take this class if you need to actually learn the material.
Professor Gallivan is great! His lectures were always short, but he explained everything well and gave us plenty of examples, so even I could understand it, and I've always struggled in math. You can tell he genuinely tries to make things easier for his students. He gave us extra credit opportunities on every test, and gave our class an easy final!
I did not have a good time in this class. He did not teach, he simply went over examples and sped through the material. Nothing is clear. He goes way too fast and you can barely take notes. The homework can be difficult and you only have three attempts before you get the question wrong. Is very caring and understanding though, I'll give him that.
Best professor i've had.
Professor Gavillan is an amazing math professor. I took intermediate algebra and college algebra with him. The class was VERY easy, (I've never been a math person but he made it easy). I passed both classes with an A. He gives extra credit and he's very understanding about extending work.
In his Math for Lib Arts the lectures consist of him reading through a short power point, then he goes through about 10-15 problems step-by-step for notes. He's SUPER good at explaining things, and always willing to elaborate more. Grade is based off hw assignments, midterm (open note/at home), and final. Almost always let's us out early.
Have had him twice for two math courses and he allowed me to easily understand the materials. A lot of homework on Pearson but if you ask, he usually will extend the dates for you if you ever have a rough week. The exams are not too difficult if you go to class and study. Overall great professor and a really nice guy would 100% recommend.
This class was very simple and easy: 4 short-answer tests, which had 6-8 Qs that are identical to ones in lectures, 4 quizzes, HW on MML, & 5pts EC on tests. He doesn't make this class harder than it needs to be. I couldn't attend campus for this "on-campus" class, but he set up zoom meetings so I could attend lectures remotely. Very friendly guy.
He can be a bit fast during his lectures, so make sure to speak up if you need more time to take notes. He's very flexible with his due dates and provides extra credit each week, which is added as points towards your exams. He did provide advance notice on Canvas when he moved classes to Zoom. Very helpful. I would recommend him.
I enjoyed taking Professor Gavillan's class and will take another one of his classes. He is easy to reach out to, will help if you are struggling, the notes were cohesive and useful. He cares about his students and interacts with his student in class. Highly recommend.
Earned an A when I absolutely suck at math haha I highly recommend him! Lots of homework but that's every math course. He gave my class an easy midterm & final, is accessible outside of class, and doesn't speed through lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory as all of his lectures are recorded through Zoom. Take him!
There are four proctored tests and quizzes, which are not proctored. Homework can be completed through MyMathLab. Professor Gavillan does several examples in class, and asks if anyone has questions after each example. He allows a page of notes on tests and, prior to the test, he tells you exactly which questions will be on the test.
Professor Gavillan is very nice, however he goes through lessons very quick. Our lectures only lasted about 30 minutes, and he blows through the power points quickly. Be careful because the last half of our semester was pretty much all on zoom instead of in person. I went to the campus a few times and found out class was canceled or on zoom.
I've taken this professor for all my math courses. He is very easy going and helpful. Responds to messages/emails in a timely matter. Offers extra credit and provides great study guides which makes the exam so much easier! Super nice and understandable, always down to extend assignments as needed. 10/10 recommend!
Professor Gavillan is very laid-back and very understanding when it comes to re-opening assignments or exams when needed. He responds to messages and emails in a timely matter and offers 1 on 1 Zoom for a better understanding of the concepts that are being taught and extra credit. Quizzes are not proctored however Exams are honor locked. 10/10
Such a genuine prof & I would have failed if I had gotten any other stats prof. I was scared of stats but he made the process easier. NO tests for this class only hw on mymathlab (free) & 1 big essay that you work on through the entire course & it is broken up into parts so it is way less stress; he even gives extensions if people really need it.
I took this class for my BSN in nursing. Professor Gavillan really took the time to explain every topic and makes sure you have an understanding before moving on. You will have to conduct a survey and compose a paper. At first it seems very intimidating but, he breaks it down and helps you along the way. I would highly recommend.
Highly recommend, the class was manageable. I s
Prof. Jorge truly cares about his students. He's flexible with deadlines, offers extra credit, and is always available to help. The class includes 4 proctored tests with detailed study guides, 4 quizzes, and manageable homework for each section. You can do well even if math isn't your strength!
One of the best professors I've had thus far! He taught us statistics in a way that applies to the real world. We left with lots of Excel skills. No useless formula memorization. The semester project is very manageable and fun/interesting. You will be proud of your paper. He did one-on-one zooms and made sure everyone understood before moving on :)
super cool, easy, and straightforward. chapter quizzes (pearson) and semester project (paper + ppt video presentation) are really easy. don't procrastinate, it's easy but time consuming, and actually kind of fun if you choose a good topic. professor gavillan is friendly and fair
Professor Gavillan is one of the best professors!! He is accessible outside of class, he does offer one on one zooms for any questions/troubles you may have throughout the course. You do not have any exams however you do have homework and project paper that you work on throughout the entire course in sections along with a final powerpoint.
