Very confusing at times, makes a lot of mistakes when doing examples in class, but exams are very straight forward and gives alot of review material, no surprises on midterms or final. He is helpful when seeking extra help, but confusing in class, but he posts everything on blackbored which is helpful because he rushes notes, over all good teacher
He is so adorable! His accent can be confusing at times and he rushes through notes, but he posts them on blackboard. He's funny and he will help you. 99% of your work is straight out of the textbook and used on OWL (Online Web Learning) and is pretty annoying. Definitely recommend!
He is so nice! Extremely helpful. Yes, he'a hard to understand at first but you get used to his accent quickly. Very knowledgeable and if you are lost, he makes sense of it easily.
Talks too fast. Doesn't understand when you ask for clarification and just repeats what he previously said. I dropped his class even though I was considering majoring in chemistry.
Great prof! He has a fairly strong accent which can make it difficult to understand him sometimes, but overall fantastic. He uses hilarious comparisons to get a point across (eg single replacement equations = "i have a gf and another man steals her from me, leaving me all alone")
He is awesome, sometimes hard to understand but overall he is a great prfo. He is funny, extremely helpful and his exams are very easy and fair.
Great prof! Nice, helpful and knows lots. He explains the material clearly. Good lecture notes. No surprises in the exams. He takes the questions from the worksheets and the end of chapter problems. Highly recommended.
Jorge is hilarious. He makes silly jokes and always uses "eh". His quizzes are slightly difficult and as are his final exams. This class isn't a GPA booster but for all the science students, it's required.
I took CHEM101 and will take CHEM102 with him. He is funny, helpful and good teacher. Chemistry is not easy but I followed his step-by-step recipes to solve the problems and got an A.
He sometimes struggles to answer questions cuz he doesn't understand them. Midterms were easy just complete the worksheets he gives out before to prepare, but the final was really hard. He can be pretty funny and I didn't find his accent to take away from his teaching. He uses clickers to do lots of practice Q's which are very helpful
Love the clicker questions! Such an easy way to earn bonus marks just by showing up to class and its great practice for exams. Exams are pretty easy. I didn't even go through the practice questions because the questions on the exam are exactly like the ones he covers in class and/or has on his online notes (doesn't cover all notes in class).
Midterms were fairly easy just do the worksheets/practise tests he gives out. The final was really hard! Lots of kinetics questions. He's really funny and entertaining in class. His accent is not distracting, kind of just extra entertainment. He uses clickers to do lots of practice Q's (very helpful and easy bonus marks). BUY THE CLICKER USED!
cool guy. midterms are okay and the final was cake. just be on top of the lecture notes, and you'll get a good grade. overall this guy is great, take his class if you can.
Good guy but not a good prof. Would not take another class with him
He is so bad I don't even understand how anybody rated him so well. I dropped by second midterm because EVERYTHING he taught had nothing to do with the midterm so i failed with a 40 on that and please don't take him. His tests are FAR too hard compared to the other professors since i retook the course.
Test are really easy if you read and understand his notes. Do the worksheets he posts online because the exam questions are almost the exact same
Amazin prof. Very helpful high energy and he WILL HELP YOU not matter what. You can tell he loves his class and students. I'm not gonna lie his tests are hard but if you stay close to the notes and do well on mastering check then everything will be a breeze. Only negative is that his tests are pretty darn hard.
Pretty good professor. Clear enough about what to do that you can figure the rest out on your own. His accent is a little hard to understand sometimes, but it isn't usually too bad. He makes the topics interesting enough, even if it isn't the most exciting class.
Hard to understand at times but overall not a terrible teacher. Writes tests on whatever he feels like.
Very good instructor. I liked having practice questions for the midterms and answers on blackboard; it really helped me to prepare for the midterms.
Hes a really funny guy. His accent isn't too tough to decipher, its actually quite funny at times. You have to pay attention in his class because he does fly through the information. I highly recumbent attending every class, it would help a lot. you have to do every assignment and pay attention otherwise the midterms and final exams are difficult.
Probably the worst professor I've ever had in university. He is extremely hard to understand and he has a tough time responding to student's questions. His tests are hard and he does not take the initiative to assist his students when they're obviously struggling. AVOID THIS PROF.
This guy will make you feel uncomfortable and awkward for even being in his class.
I don't know... he's okay, you have to go to class for sure. Takes FOREVER to mark tests
I took CHEM 101, 102 with this prof. Good prof overall. These courses were not easy rides because there are too many problems to learn how to solve by heart. CHEM 101, 102 have a lot of contents and I had to work outside class doing the assignments and solving worksheets. All this extra work payed off: I got B+ in CHEM 101 and A in CHEM 102.
Very helpful when you ask him. He is good at explaining things and giving good examples on questions expected of you to know. Not an easy course overall but I would take other courses with him.
He is helpful and easy going. He explains the material well and at a slow pace most of the time. Make sure you solve and understand all the worksheet and assignment problems. I had to put a lot of time to get good grades in CHEM 101 and 102.
Solve all the problems from assignments and worksheets and you will do fine in the exams.
Really solid teacher . his assignments are super helpful with midterms and final. Makes himself very clear what questions he's putting on the midterms and final. Very funny as well
Read ahead, this year we were really far behind compared to the other classes. Khan Academy was my saviour!
Examples in class and homework questions are a lot easier than what he puts on the exam.
Jorge is an amazing prof. He does whatever he can to make sure his students do well. That being said, his exams are tough and he wants you to know the material well. But he will tell you exactly what is going to be on the exams, all you have to do is put in the work. Funny guy too.
I find he teaches very fast, and expects you to know criteria from Chem 30 etc, which kind of sucks because I haven't taken Chemistry 30 in almost 4 years.
Would strongly recommend getting another prof. If you haven't taken Chem30 in a while you drown in his class. I found he didnt thoroughly explain concepts and assumes to much of us. Went for extra help and he made me feel completely stupid. Chem101/102 are not easy classes making it essential to have a good prof. My advice do not pick Jorge!!
Hard to understand but not a bad guy. If you have taken chem 30 recently and did well you should not have a problem with this class at all. Most of the concepts were just like high school and his tests were made exactly from his practice questions.
Jorge is a great professor. He explains really well the concepts. Chemistry is a difficult course if no effort is put in. HIs exams are harder than the class examples which is frustrating. He is understanding, you will have to ask him to show harder examples in class which will prepare you better for the exams.
To begin, I hated Chemistry in high school. Jorge had inspired me to consider majoring in Chemistry after taking his class. Attend class, do his review package, talk to him for help. I still go back to him for help with any Chem questions from other levels. Very energetic and enthusiastic! Yes, he has an accent but you honestly get used to it fast.
If you want to pass chem take his class... chem is a lot of material and he does move fast, as it would be with any other profs... BUT his midterms and finals are identical to practice questions... NO SURPRISES.. he says exactly what will be on the exams... always willing to help..
He is a great prof, he really wants his students to do well in his class and is willing to answer any questions you might have and go over things he already covered. He gives you review sheets to do which have similar questions to the midterms and the final. His accent makes it harder to follow along in class but it isn't too hard to handle.
He was a really good prof because he would do examples in class and explain things thoroughly from the notes, which is crucial to understand chemistry. However, he does have an accent which can be a problem to understand for some. His midterms and final are pretty easy and they are almost the same as his practice questions online so do those! EasyA
I found Jorge to be really funny during lectures and told interesting stories. Don't go to him for extra help, I found he was condescending and made me feel stupid. Tests were a lot like the homework and practice questions.
Absolutely my favourite prof ever. Does have an accent but its easy to get used to. Hes super chill and if you do the reviews before the midterms you're good to go!
Good teacher not very great at explaining things though; the lectures are engaging and funny including practice questions that are similar to the homework and tests. Test are carbon copy of class lectures so memorize the processes he shows you. Test are difficult and long but a fair representation of what was taught and practiced in class.
Over the duration of the course, it seemed as though he was unprepared and marginalised our class. He would consistently be late to class, and was even late to the final, doesn't post grades either. Overall, he was alright. Does worksheets in class and the exam questions follow the exact same process. Repeat those questions and you'll get an A.
Solid choice the worksheets he posts are very similar to the exams and gives the midterms back so that you have them to study for the final which is really nice. Takes forever to get the midterms bsck but is a fair marker. Also gives a bonus 2% if you participate online during class which is awesome.
Midterms and final were similar the practice ones and as long as you go over the lecture notes you'll do good. Didn't need to use the textbook. Cracks jokes once in a while and is a funny prof.
Jorge makes chemistry pretty interesting. His lectures are very fun and engaging. The midterms and the final were pretty easy as long as you do the practice questions. In addition, his accent is pretty think but you get used to it throughout the semester and it makes his jokes 100% funnier. All in all, great prof.
Jorge is a great instructor. He is funny and explains concepts well for those who need help understanding; he is also very available outside the classroom, even when not in his classes anymore. He is pleasant to speak to outside the classroom as well! Jorge also uses examples that aren't as common on exams (ex: uses La and V instead of C or Br)
Doesn't really explain too well
Best Prof I've had. He explains things really well, and will re-explain if necessary. He gives great feedback on tests and is overall a really funny, nice guy. If chem is hard for you, he's a great choice.
Things to know about Jorge: He's absolutely hilarious. He tries to incorporate jokes in his lectures to ease the mood. His exams are easy and straight forward. If you pay attention in class, there's no reason for you to get below an 80% in his exams. He's also very specific in telling you exactly what will be on the exam
One of THE best professors I've ever had. Explains concepts really well and literally tells you whats going to be on the midterms and final. Incorporates jokes into his lectures so it doesn't get boring. Has a bit of an accent but you get used to it after the first day. Would highly recommend!!
Imma keep it real chief, Jorge is a great guy. He's funny and always on time and his accent isn't so bad once you get used to it, what is an issue though is the time it takes to receive exam grades back. My next midterm in his class is in 7 days and I still haven't gotten my midterm back from 21 days ago. I could be failing and wouldn't have a clue
Jorge is a funny guy and a great prof. His worksheets and examples done during class are very similar to the exams so do the worksheets and go to class! And you should do well!
Jorge is such an amazing prof, I loved this class. I usually don't like chem but he made it so interesting and clear that it was hard not to enjoy this class. His exams are pretty straight forward and even if you don't know all of the calculations you still get part marks. He is available in office hours and is extremely accessible out of class.
Jorge has an accent and he tends to talk pretty fast. If you dont keep up during the lecture, you could miss something quite easily. However, all of the questions on his exams are the same as the ones on the assignments so its pretty easy. All of his notes were online so going to class was optional.
Jorge was a very good prof, used straightforward examples which resembled those on exams. The only issue I had was that he took forever to mark midterms, as well as the final, which I am still waiting to see even though grades should have been uploaded days ago.
Jorge was a very good prof. His classes are engaging, interesting, and somewhat entertaining. His exams are all short answer where the questions are taken off mastering chemistry and his worksheets, so do those and you should be able to do well on the exams! Through the exams being short answer, it takes him awhile to mark them (3-4 weeks).
good prof, work on the worksheets that he posts as they pretty much resemble both midterms and final. Lectures are heavy so be sure to show up to class. One thing though is that he takes forever to give the midterms back so you don't really know where you are standing in that class until the last minute. Overall, very funny and caring guy.
Jorge is probably one of my favourite profs at this school. He is more caring of the grade that youll receive than you are. He is incredibly intelligent and he makes every concept crystal clear. His teaching style is exceptional and he is hilarious. Not one of his lectures were boring. Would highly recommend him for any chemistry class.
He's a little hard to understand at first but you'll get used to his accent after a couple weeks. You might think that his analogies are dumb, but actually listen to them because they help. Tough course, but super doable with him. He takes FOREVER to get marks back (got my 1st midterm mark back the day before my 2nd midterm). Solid prof though.
Awful dont take this course with him
I had him for an online semester and he did live lectures. He said he would post the recording of the lectures but didn't post them until a couple of hours before an exam so if I was confused I had no video that could help me learn the concept. He was also unprofessional because he changed the questions of an exam while we were writing it.
His accent is difficult to understand sometimes and he messes up while explaining concepts and doing examples.
He professor doesnt like teaching. He changed the questions of a mid term exam while we were writing the exam. He was reported for that. I watched the weight of the questions in the final change while I was writing it. He doesnt explain concepts well, his goal seems to be to screw over students while telling us what a great guy he is. Avoid!
I really liked his class but he tended to take a long time explaining the easier material and what I found hard was seemed to be rushed through. He will answer your emails with questions and is always helpful. His material is very much like the tests and exams so pay attention and write everything down! Very nice prof!!!
Takes years to answer emails when you need it, takes forever to mark and is kinda picky when marking.
he uses mastering chemistry which doesnt let u change ur answer once u submit a question so even if u change ur mind or decide ur answer is wrong u cant go back to it. He doesnt reply to emails and has a thick accent so its hard to understand the material.
He's a nice prof, if you study you will do well, his exams are almost exactly like the assignments but he does a terrible job answering emails and updating exam marks. He uses Mastering Chemistry for exams which can be a great struggle because once you submit your answer during the exam, you cannot go back and change it if you have time left.
dont recommend taking his class. not helpful outside of class once i asked him for help on a question and he replied 5 days later and literally copied what was written under the question and sent it to me.. by then i alr figured it out myself so it was no help.
He's not bad, but some of the material on the test we did not learn. His lectures videos are pretty good but are very long; I recommend watching it in 1.5x or 2x speed because he talks really slow. It's your choice if you want to attend the online lecture or not because he records it anyways.
Jorge was a great prof! I would recommend him for the online chem class. His lecture slides were kind of long and boring but the tests were not too bad. The assignments were reasonable as well. If one assignment was missed, he would still include it in the marks if you finished it by the deadline he gave. He is very sweet.
He assigned 4 2 hour notice lectures to watch over reading week with 3 hour notice on the Friday though, which meant I had to spend the first half of reading week stressed and watching lectures. Overall his lecture and tests were good, but the last minute lectures made this course wayyyyyyyy to stressful.
Honestly do not have anything bad to say about this professor. I did not really focus in class too much but whenever I did, everything he said made sense to me
The lecture notes he provided were horrible; slides would be out of order, taken away, or extra slides would appear. class average on the midterm was 32%. I'm sure some people enjoy his class, but i was definitely not one of them.
jorge is great!! long lectures but he thoroughly explains the concepts. the given practice worksheets and assignments on MC are VERY similar to the exams. he is very accessible and will go above and beyond to help students.
I don't know why people don't like him, but he's actually a really good prof. The videos are long so get ready with that but he teaches well. Its also better to have textbook since it's easier if you don't understand what he's doing. He's super nice and isn't a tough grader!
Jorge is a fun professor who tries to explain concepts, but the tests are long and brutal. The review pages act more as practice exams, which are key to success. He knows a lot about chemistry but sometimes gets ahead of himself in explaining concepts.
Very enusiastic person, it is clear he loves chemistry. Homework is nothig crazy and if your late he will still give credit. Lectures are good but he can be a little confusing when explaining some concepts. Tests were long but I also had a long class. If you are confused be sure to ask he will always try to explain it so you can understand.
This professor was okay, he would have a lot of practice questions given and due by the end of the week. His accent, however, was super heavy and it took me nearly a day to understand a dohzuhn was a dozen. He is a fair marker, but a very slow grader.
You can tell Jorge wants you to succeed in lectures; he genuinely tries to make sure the class understands what he is teaching and checks in with the class to make sure they understand. However, outside of lectures, he was impossible to get in contact with to ask questions. Even before finals, I sent 4 emails and never got a reply.
Jorge, was not a very effective marker, we got our first midterm grades back just a week before our next midterm. This on top of watching 2 hour long lecture videos for your next lecture, made his class very difficult to manage. During finals week he waited till the night of our final to give us the sample final. Which was 15 pages of written.
It is more productive to stay at home and watch the lecture videos then come to class. He just tells us to watch the videos anyways and they actually do examples. He gave us a practice final at 7pm when the final was at 9am the next day. His answer keys are always wrong and critical information is inconsistent. ... Pt1
... Pt 2 Jorge assigned hours of assignments on mastering chemistry that are way harder than the actual class examples. He responded to my 3rd follow up email after 2 weeks the night before the final again referring me to the videos. He did not teach a week's worth of material and yet again told us to watch the videos on it instead of teaching.
Don't get me started on mastering chemistry a homework website he uses. This may be the most stupidly programmed and formed website. He assigns 4 hours of homework on topic we haven't yet learned and they are due before we learn them. And if your assignment is 1 minute late you get a 0. :(
He's friendly but lacks responsibility. Slow email responses, boring online lectures, heavy accent, and lots of "ums". He set up a review session once and promised to post an answer key for the practice but never did. Exam grading is extremely delayed. MasteringChemistry assignments are self-taught. I advise you to look at other profs before him.
By far one of the worst teachers I have ever taken , first of all he takes months to mark your exams second he has no replied to any persons email the entire course third , whenever asked for help he gives blunt responses without answering what your asked , and fourth he litterally did not upload final marks on time. 0/10 would not reccomend
He is so genuinely so bad. He marks so damn slow. He still hasn't posted final marks yet. He marks at a snail's pace, I could be married by the time he marks one exam and I'd have lived my life to the age of 99 like Price Phillp by the time he decided to finish marking finals. Avoid him if you want to know your grades at a reasonable time.
First topic in Chem 101 is stoic, and in my opinion he taught it SO WELL. Even though the problems were long and brutal (as expected from a university level course) he did them step by step and he used analogies to make it easy to understand. Of course a 2hr lecture can be boring but try to stay out of tiktok and restore your guys attention span (2)
Second part of Chem 101 was theory heavy and I must say that this was his "weakness" as a prof. Because of his accent he cannot explain the concepts clearly and gets his words jumbled up most of the time and was slow in explaining concepts. So for the second half of chem 101, I suggest watching his videos even if they're long... (3)
So why did I give prof. jorge a high rating? Its because his TESTS ARE SO DAMN EASY. He gives a lot of practice tests, just do those and you'll ace the exams TRUST ME DO ALL OF THEM. I'd rather have a prof who teaches bad but gives easy tests than the other way around. He does mark slow but meh not a big deal.
Did not understand anything at all during lectures but the tests were exactly like the practice tests. Does not reply to emails but is very helpful during office hours.Very slow marker but tests are very fair.
I would recommend! He was a great prof for my learning style. His tests are clear and he gives you exposure to exam questions in lectures and practice exams. His review sessions before exams were very helpful and he wanted to see his students succeed. Practice the concepts after lectures and put in the time, and you will do well in this class.
Jorge Llano shouldn't be teaching chem online. I emailed him many times and he replied once at the beginning. Otherwise I had no contact with him. Exams were on long weekend fridays at MacEwan at 7-9 pm. He would take a month to grade exams. He posts lectures from 2021 that are long, hard to listen to. He may be good in person but online he is not.
Lectures are so long and difficult to listen to. He moves fast and is not at all accessible outside of class. Only saving grace is that the practice questions given are nearly identical to the midterms and final.
He is actually a very good professor, he posts long videos but they are VERY useful, and If you really wanted you could just watch those. If you go to office hours for help he is very helpful and explains things simply. There is a lot of homework but its fairly easy. Just keep up with the work and don't procrastinate, it is not a hard class.
best is to just study on your own attending lecture is pointless. he isnt a good prof but his exams are fair because they are similar to the practise ones he gives out. He has atleast 3h or more posted weekly. learn on ur own, in class is just review. nothings graded till the end! he's nice but the way he teaches isnt beneficial for most.
Lectures can be tough, but the practice tests are nearly identical to the exams. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for prepping - give it a try alongside the practice materials.
HE IS THE BEST! he is very easy marker even if you solved something wrong he will give you the mark for your steps i'm taking him again whenever i see his name for any chem course he is very helpful if you didnt do well in the midterm he will let you do it again to get good mark even if you want to just repeat 1 question
