Classes are pretty boring. The whole time he stands in front of class and reads off of power points. You will learn, but it is hard not to fall asleep because the class is so boring.
I took his nutrition class which was pretty easy. The only section that was challenging was the vitamin section because it was alot of material. Other than that just read ahead and pay attention to the notes he gives you in class they are the most helpful.
The class is kind of boring, but u do learn! He doesn't gives extra credit, he may consider extra credit that you have perfect attendance, or if he sees that ur improving on your tests. Also is good that you talk to him in person so he could see that you are interesting of getting a better grade. He doesn't give hw either.
This class changed my perspective on nutrition 180 degrees. The professor is very sweet, caring, sarcastic at times but is just to keep the class going. His exams are very fair and he takes into account your attendance and improvement throught out the semester if your grade needs a boost. Just show uo to class with your power point and enjoy!!!
GREAT TEACHER loves his students will do anything to ensure you learn!!! You will love him even though it does get a little boring but so is the subject. He will clear up all myths!!
His class was very well easy, but it is a lot of studying. There is no way you can pass an exam with out studying. It is a good course to take, but be ready and willing to dedicate your time to studying. Easy Professor. He's isn't mean is help whenever you need help. He emails slides before the lecture and the book is for your own use.
Great class and teacher--fair, understanddin, learned a lot--need to study
Best teacher I've ever had, gives you plenty of help, if you have problems simply pass by his office and he awards you extra credit for the visit, super funny, and knows what hes teaching.
I would recommend him because he is a GREAT teacher who care for his student and passion about the student grade. He courage us to go his office to get credit point and the slide was easy to understand. He is funny as well. I love his class so much and it alot to learn.
This Professor is amazing! He really cares for his students and their progress in the class. He is really funny and keeps you interested with his stories! I Definately recommend him! His test are pretty easy and there is no homework or any projects! visit him in his office every once in a while if in the end you might need some extra credit!
He is excellent teacher who care for his student. He courage us alot and make sure we pass the test and make sure we read and follow up with his slide.
He is great teacher for would make sure the student pass the class with a good grade. He provide alot of help. I would recommend him very much. He care for his student as well.
can already say this prof is unique---best ive had at mdc. lots of help to pass course with good grade--makes class fun
I'm very interested in this subject but honestly he kind of ruined it for me. He's rude and disrespectful. Last class he told everyone to leave because supposedly we were unprepared. He also gets angry very easily and has long boring lectures. Choose him only cuz he's the better of the two teachers who teach the subject.
Best professor in miami dade, this guy wants you to get a good grade in his class. Print all the slides he emails you, when you go over it in class he tells you what to highlight... and by highlighting its a way of telling us its on the test. He gives out a review sheet before an exam and goes over it all of it is on the test. TAKE HIM!!!
Great professor, easy A. His exams are purely based on powerpoint. Attend his classes, he usually narrows down what to study, buying the book will help you study as well as coursecompass. He hates it when individuals arrive to class late, but I would too. He can also have a mean attitude sometimes. But overall, he's good.
It is an easy class but I just could not stand him. He seems like a nice guy but has an attitude. He makes the corniest jokes and then students laugh, which encourages him to make more jokes. He teaches from powerpoint and his lectures are so long and boring. Then he gets mad when no one pays attention. If you could put up with him then take it.
One of the best i've had at mdc. some have said hes mean--he only wants you to do ur job cuz he helps a lot so he gets frustrated and lets u know--he truly wants u to pass his corse
i thought his stories were hilarius--great prof
GreAT prof--not easy--must study but provides lotsa help-expects u to behave like a colege student--does not put up with high school stuff--demands respect will let u know----not easy A
First of all, whoever said he is hot, is clearly blind because he looks like a bald rat. He is bipolar. He'll be happy one day, mad the next, he'll laugh at his own jokes then gets serious lol but overall, his tests are common sense in a way. I guess study and be prepared. I wouldn't take him again.
He will help you get a good grade on the test, it is important to take notes and print the slides. He is not very friendly but as long as you study, you will be fine. You only do 5 exams, no homework, quizzes or extra credit.
Great teacher, easy A if you attend and study a bit. He makes it easy for students and the subjects are extremely helpful for our daily life. I would take his class again if I had to. He is great!
He will tell you that you absolutely need the book, with the course compass code. I used the book 4 times the entire semester (to read the assigned readings for the test). Make sure you have some money to spare when take this class, because you'll need lots of paper and even more printer ink. He makes you print ALL the slides, and i mean every chpt
Interesting class! Voice is sorta monotone, so his jokes help. Jokes aren't too funny, but whatever. He is an amazing teacher and will be very concise and clear on the information. He gives reviews before exams and helps you with any questions!
He have a lot of issues with people opinion towards his work and tests which is quiet complex and doesnot apply the the review he gives out and when you go to his office to view and go over the test he have attitude towards finding out why the answer is wrong so whats the sense going to is office hours he want you to donate your time to the shelter
i got a B in his class, but thanks to his help---the class is not easy and exams are hard.He does not make you print the PP slides but recommends you--this helped me a lot. He prefers you study from the slides and not the chapter, exept for assigned readings. The book is used particularly when he wants you to see an image. Loved the class.
He is pretty clear in his lectures about what he wants on the exams. Just pay close attention and study often and you will pass. His teaching method is good but he is a bit bipolar. I would never really want to ask him questions because he would usually respond with an attitude.
i went to hos office a few times--he appears hard to talk to but nit really--he expects a lot and explained to me why---most profesors dont give a darn--he does-- believe me--wants u to care about his class--and we all have our bad days--learned alot
Cool guy, a little soft spoken and sarcastic funny. He is very anal about being in class on time, even though I got an A on his first test. He talked to me as if I was in high school when I come in 5 min late. I work 'til midnight every night 6 days a week and my company is actually paying for my education so my work is priority. I dropped him.
The class and the professor are both incredibly boring. He is the kind of professor who constantly says "I'm going to stop hounding you guys about studying" and then continues to go on and on and on about studying. He can be patronising, and I personally did not like his attitude. Attendance is not required, though, which is a plus.
i cant beleive the childish whining of some of student comments. grow up! ur in college now.Prof M is an educater that does his job super well. why complain about his jokes and stories---these come from his experience and u learn. He does run a tight ship-good for him. some of us want to learn. luv the class.
HE IS SO NICE, HE TEACHES VERY GOOD IN TERMS AS A STUDENT CAN UNDERSTAND, HE GIVES EXAMPLES IN REAL LIFE NOT IN DOCTORING WORDS. YOU HAVE TO STUDY HIS SLIDES AND HIS REVIEW FOR EACH CHAPTER.
TOOK HIM ONE TIME AND I HAD TO DROP IT BECAUSE I DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION... THEN I RETOOK HIM AGAIN BECAUSE I WANTED TO ACTUALLY PASS IT, AND HE'S EXTREMELY SERIOUS ABOUT BEING IN CLASS ON TIME. STORIES ARE FUNNY, NO BOOK NEEDED, ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS PAY ATTENTION AND STUDY FROM THE POWER POINTS. GREAT CLASS! GOT A "B" BUT I COULD'VE DONE BETTER!
haaateeeee hisss class!!!! his the most boring prof ever!!! i dont care for his attitude! his sarcastic and always making bad jokes... other than that... i guess he is ok explaining
Hes cool and fun, no book needed everything comes from his slides and he emails them to you as well, he also sends you test review questions and hes veryyy helpful answering questions, I liked him a lot
no hard at all, go to his office if you need help and he'll give you extra credit points for going to visit him. you need to study for his test but he gives you review a review sheet to study from and he'll help you out with the question you couldnt answer if you go to his office .... want an A or a B++++ ? take him
TAKE HIM ! Is an easy class, just study all the power point slides, read what he tell you to read and you should be able to get an A.
This perfessor is soooo boring. Wow i could not stay awake in his class. such a monotone voice... i couldnt stand this man, so i went running in high speed....watch out!
very boring, very easy, kinda funny, just read the slides and review (he emails them) and you will get an A. He is anal about people being late, and doesn't understand student privacy when speaking to someone in class. Overall, take him and put a check on your list of classes accomplished.
not an easy A you have to study his grading criteria 5 exams totaling 500 points divide that by five and that becomes your final grade.
You can get an A if you review ppts and read the assigned readings. Tests are not hard, you just need to put in the effort. The students who fail are not even trying. Prof M is great. He makes this class interesting. He gives hints of what's on test during his lecture and gives a good review sheet. Take him you won't regret it. He's the best!
Exams are hard--u need to study. Prof is great, very fair and helpful but if u dont follow his advice u can fail the class.
This prof is BORING i took him early in the morning and it was like i went back to my bed....going to his office during hours doesn't help your grade as he said it will...i will take this class where i could take testes online
This class is super BORING but super EASY. The tests are straight from the powerpoint slides and the review he gives to students. This class is mostly memorizing. You take 4 tests and if you get an A average on all of them, you dont have to take the last test and you can stop coming to class. Very easy nutrition class.
Although i started in the wrong foot with him ,i pulled it off and i manage to excempt hes last exam. What i would highly reccomend any participant , is to attend to every class with no exception(in time!) and to follow through the entire class without falling asleep . If you keep up with this, you'll be good to go.
This profesor is really boring. He does not care for his students and he's in general, monotone. He does not have the ability to really teach without the power points which is weird because he is a "teacher" and his test are quite the challenge regardless if you studied or not. He has a major attitude problem and puts down is students for no reason
He is very monotone. his demeanor is not welcoming. He encourages to ask questions, but he judges you and reprimands you when you ask a question that he claims he clearly covered on the slides. He really does put his students down, and puts a damper on the interest level of the course. Always with a mean attitude unless he's making a joke.
Superb teacher!! You need to pay attention in class (not hard, because he makes class entertaining), & print the slides before class (a must & bring a highlighter). This is the best teacher I've had in MDC. Really cares about his student and goes out of his way to help you. You won't regret having him as a teacher.
If you are willing to put in the work than take him, however you really have to put in effort. He is also very helpful and gives great advice. But all in all this class is mostly memorizing. Some cons may be that he has a monotone voice, not welcoming, and always telling jokes some funny, some not. But he's alright.
He uses PowerPoint slides from 2006! which are not even his own but are property of Pearson.Ed therefore he skips a lot of slides saying we don't need to know the material. He doesn't care if you are actually learning about nutrition, he just want you to memorize the answers to his review questions which he provides so the class average is not low.
Negative: He goes off topic alot about personal stories & god forbid if you're late because he will pick on you. No extra credit either. Positive: You don't need the book, even though he says you do. He emails the powerpoint slides and uses it during his lectures. Pretty much memorize the slides and you will do fine.
Great professor. He makes the class very fun, he uses personal examples to help better understand the topics, the tests could not be any easier because he gives a review that is the same as the test, and gives the answers to the review. There is only one way to fail, and that is not listening to him.
The class is really easy overall. Just go to class and study off the study guide he gives you its exactly the same as the test. The class is only based on 4 tests. So you have to study for them. The good thing is there all multiple choice so it's pretty easy.
Really easy, just pay attention, use the study guides, and bring them to every class. The exams are super easy and if you have an A in the class after the 4th exam, you needn't take the 5th. Really great at answering questions and clarifying the subject.
This class is super easy, you just need to pay attention and be interested. He gives plenty of pointers for you to know what's going on the tests. I think I only got caught by surprise by 4 or 5 questions overall. He is kind of funny, but gets upset about tardies, so make sure you get on time.
It was an "okay" class. I learned useful things about Nutrition. He is a nice guy, funny at times, sometimes he overdoes it. If you study and prepare enough for the tests you are going to do fine. I studied, but not that much, and got and A. Don't get late to his class, he hates it.
He is a good professor. If he gives you the chance to study with him a few hours before the test, don't miss it, that's what saved me! He's tests are clear. He's funny at times. I would definitely recommend him.
extremely easy but extremely boring. monotone nasal voice that'll drive you nuts. he once told a student to see him after class... this isn't high school, he doesn't understand that. walks around class checking to see if your writing notes. he asks rhetorical questions then gets upset when no one answers. annoying but you're guaranteed an A
If you are extremely passionate about nutrition, then do not take this class.. If you just want to get your credit for science and need an easy class to take then take him. His tests are pretty easy and he gives you a great review for every test. I did learn stuff on my own so if you also like reading then take him. His book is NOT mandatory
His lectures are long and unclear. Speaks very low and spends a lot of time talking about personal stories. Makes his exams hard. Questions asked on tests sometimes haven't been covered in class or powerpoint. Many times he said that his class is not easy, even though this site says it is. He proved it with his tests.
His class was not hard, it all depends on how much of an effort you put in. There are no projects or HW, just 5 tests. If you pass the first 4 tests, you don't have to do the final. He gives you a review for each test and then tells you the answers to the review in class. Between the review and the assigned readings, you have all the answers.
He is a very nice professor. He gives 5 tests and no homework. He gives a study guide for each test and all of the questions come from that. If you get an A after the 4th test you don't have to take the 5th. No homework. Easy A if you do the study guides and go to class.
Unclear lectures, if your not familiar and actually wants to learn. Do not take him. Lectures are boring and unclear. He gives you 30 questions to study but on the test there are 50 questions so even if you get 30 right, you'll still need to know more about the subject to answer the other 15.
This guy is a little too melodramatic for my liking. He overreacts when a student doesn't ask a question he likes because he'll chew your head off. Print and study each slides. 4 tests and if you ace the last one you don't have to take the 5th. The tests are hard so study up! The book helped me but it's not necessary.
IF YOU STUDY THEN THE TESTS WONT BE A PROBLEM. DOES TALK ALOT
If you miss constantly, youll miss what you need to know for the test. Throughout him explaining the ppt's, he points out things that will be on the test, crucial for an A. Funny guy, can get boring sometimes but who cant? takes attendance at the end of class. he says book is mandatory, never bought it and i did very well
He is very annoying with a nasal voice that drives you crazy. Talks so slow. Get frustrated when he ask a question and no one answers. Don't be late. Most of the time is talking about personal stories. He tries to be funny but he sucks at it. If you only want a credit take it. Easy to handle just memorize the study guide and you will be fine.
I know most people on here can't stand him but honestly, you get what you put in. Do not be late, that drives him nuts! He gives no homework. He hands out a study guide prior to exams and you goes over it in class. As long as you study that guide, you will do great. If you fail his class, you are lazy and have a learning disorder.
This professor is an enlightful individual, with a noticeable confidence and knowledge on everything he mentions, his test are straight forward if you pay attention in class you will get an A! He throws hints with some questions and there answers for the test, just write those down and study them and your good. I strongly recommend him....
Likes to talk and tell stories, but if you kindly remind him to get back to the lesson, he doesn't mind and appreciates it! He sends the power points and the reviews for every exam, if you read on your own time you are guaranteed an A! Just study and put your own effort! Understanding, and he likes when you participate just dont distract the class!
He is a great professor, because he really knows how to explain things to help his students understand. He is open to answering questions, and his class was based on lectures, and his test reviews are perfect for studying. He is one of those professors that wants to see participation cause he doesn't just want to listen to himself lecture.
This class was fun en interesting, he really wants you to study a lot for his test. Doesn't give any homework, also tries to make his class fun.
Monserrate is the type of teacher who gives you exactly what you need to pass his exams. He is very knowledgeabl about nutrition and seems to enjoy clearing up misconceptions. His teaching style is lectures and exams without any unnecessar hw. Attendance/being on time is mandatory and it will cause issues if abused. He worked in the field for years
LOVE HIM! super engaging with students. Test are easy if you literally do all of the review, no tricks with him, review is always straight forward. Show up to class though, he likes to see that you care about your grade. If you're late to class you'll be sure to hear him say something about it so attendance is very important
In my opinion, one of the best professors i have ever had. Test are not really difficult, if you listen to the class, you just have to learn what its on the power point, no more, no less. It was an easy A for me. YOU WILL LEARN A LOT WITH HIM
There are 4 exams (drop one) and the final. Attendance is mandatory and be on time. Take notes, read the slide and the book, do the review, and you will get an A. No homework, no extra credit but you don't need them to get an A. Very smart, funny, caring, and knowledgable. You have to take him, you will not regret. You learn a lot.
Very good professor. If you pay attention in class and read all slides before the test you will pass with A.
If you skip his classes, you won't pass. Attendance is key! He's really cool but you need to be on top of the class. If you read all the slides you will pass the class with A.
Read, show up to class and attend his exam reviews to get an A. He works hard to make sure you do very well but you must do your part. Great class, lecture, etc.
This class is not hard, he gives you the exam review questions to answer along as he goes through the slide. Just study and the class will be easy, he goes through a lot of information so study! Professor has a short temper and like to run on a lot, DO NOT come late or he will throw a fit. Also gets mad when people ask question for some reason.
He's great, he is just super strict with attendance.... Don't be late and also make sure to come on Fridays because he low-key gives extra credit :) 5 exams! no homework drops the lowest grade exam DONT BE MEAN TO HIM, HE IS VERY NICE AND HIS BIRTHDAY IS APRIL 23RD
He is a great professor. Sometimes he is moody but he is always willing to help you. If you study the slides you will be just fine. You will have 4/5 tests.
This professor isn't a bad person at all, he just has a short temper and the way he talks is very exhausting. Lectures seem a lot longer than they are because his voice lacks enthusiasm. If you do the review sheet and study you'll pass.
He is okay at best. Not a bad person just really mellow which makes for a chill class environment but you wont learn much of anything from him. You will have to study on your own the book is way better than the powerpoints he provides for you. He claims you should feel free to ask him questions but i find him to very condescending when you do so.
i don't know what these guys are talking about. One of the best proffesors I've had at MDC. very student caring, super interesting class, friendly, you just need to follow the rules of the class. He has helped me improve my grade---hoping for a b. i wish he would teach other classes. gives 5 exams.
Monserrate is a great professor. He really cares about his students passing and and makes it really easy with his reviews that are exactly whats on the test. Study for tests and you'll be fine. His lectures are really interesting and you learn lots of stuff thats really helpful and relevant to everyday life/well-being
This class is not difficult, you just have to study the material assigned. Read the assigned pages and the powerpoint. Unfortunately, he whispers and has a monotone voice, so sit in the 1st row. He says feel free to ask him questions, but when you ask or challenge the information with something you may know, hes rude and very condescending.
Understanding. He helps you with your tests, if you show up to his office before to review he will walk out an ask you questions straight from the test. Your study guide for the test is exactly what will be on your test. I didn't buy a textbook because I didn't have money but I passed. The textbook isn't needed, he will also drop lowest test score.
Overall he a good person, he makes the class easy for you to pass. Study the PowerPoints and youll do good on his test. Do not buy the book, doesnt even use it.
Dont buy the book you wont need it. You can learn everything from the slides. You get almost all questions that will be on the test on your review sheet. But he always makes jokes and talked about things that has nothing to do with the class. He has a very nasal voice and he dont seem very enthusiastic teaching.
Professor sets clear expectations, and provides plenty of opportunity to maintain a good grade. The flow and class structure encourages retention of the material. His practical experience in the field of nutrition makes class interesting and engaging. Easy A if you show up to class and are present; otherwise YOU WILL GET LOST IN THE DATA.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. Prof. Monserrate is one of the clearest + kindest teachers. HE WANTS YOU TO GET AN A + it is very easy to do so. He gives study guides and gives out all of the answers in class. Only 5 exams no other assignments at all. If you get an A on 4 of them you don't have to take the final. If you put in any effort you will do well.
Professor Monserrate is a very kind professor who is strict with grading and tries to relate to the students. It's quite comical at first but can be a bit annoying after some time. 5 exams, all based on the textbook and lectures in class. Drops the worst score and averages it out to give you your final grade. Alright, but gets off topic a lot
Dont take this Professor if youre in business major. His way of teaching is complicated and tricky.
he's not a bad teacher but he is so boring, it's hard to stay awake while he is teaching but the class is a easy A if you study
The professor is super chill. The study guides he gives are almost identical to the exams. If you do the study guide and review a little it's an easy A.
5 tests, each is 50 questions. He drops the lowest test grade. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK YOU DON'T NEED IT. If you study the powerpoint he sends you (which can be long; about 40-50 slides each) you should get an A or B on the test. memorizing is key. Just read the slides over and over again. I didn't out that much effort and got a B.
If you want to just Read powerpoints for the test, then take this professor. If you would rather have your final grade based on assignments, discussions, and tests, then take this class online, He gets mad if you get late to class. Talks a lot, gets off topic, and does get boring eventually. If your good at memorizing, then this class is an easy A
Amazing profesor , very knowledgeable on the nutrition. Makes classes enjoyable , funny 5 exams drops the lowest one Attendance is important Gives reviews before every exam . Take him!!
Had professor Monserrate for summer B ( 6 weeks class Monday , Wed , Friday ) Highly recommend this professor , you will learn, understanding , if any questions see him After class. Great review sheets ..... if you study a bit everyday or at least after class will do great. NO homework , no complications , also participate in class . A+ class
5 exams , drops the lowest grade Review sheet for every exam No homework Participation matters Makes jokes during class Knows his stuff Would take him again You will learn
Hes the best, you would learn a lot in his class. Hes super nice and funny, youll never get bored in his class if you like nutrition. He doesnt give any homework but prepare for every test.
You dont need the book if you have the powerpoint (which he gives you) As long as you do your test reviews you will pass.. lectures a lot but he is so funny and loves to make jokes
Honestly, hes a good teacher.. if anyone fails his class, theyre just lazy
Dont skip any classes. If you pay attention and follow his PowerPoints and study guides, the tests will be an easy A. Book is helpful but not really necessary. I used it a few times. Hes pretty funny too and he loves to talk to be ready. Great class !
Professor Monserrate gets off topic talking about random things and his own life very often. He is enthusiastic and engaging, the tests are take-home short answer assignment style and he gives reviews with the exact questions that will be on the test. He is very picky about the responses to be exactly correct so copy from the book or PowerPoint
Such a funny person, the course is based on a test but he elaborates on the content making it relatable. He lectures for the full 2ish hours, when you have him once a week, not that bad because he's kind, but I had to keep myself awake through the agony of a lecture from a PowerPoint for 2 hours on digestion.
He is a fun dude, but be ready for unnecessary rant about other things during the class. He talks about how he is having problems during the first 20 minutes of the class. However, if you just stick to the ppts and books, its an easy pass.
Monserrate is an excellent teacher as he does not give you everything so specific that the classes are so enjoyable, he is incredible his exams are through the review sheet. I highly recommend them.
funny and nice guy, he cares about his students and his class. gives good lectures and easy class in general.
Great professor, gives interesting lectures and tells stories about the subject. Very caring and respectful. Grade is based only on 5 tests, no homework at all. He posts power points of the chapters so the textbook is not necessary except for a few readings, but you can find a PDF.
This Professor is should a procrastinator. He takes forever to reply to e-mails and is rude. Would not recommend him.
Excellent professor!! His classes are very intructives and you will always learn something new. Only 4 test, he will give you an study guide and explain very well the topics that you will see in the test. He is always in touch with his students, very accesible outside the class. Also, he is so funny. I strongly recommend this professor. 10/10
He made the class very entertaining & is always there to help you with any understanding. He encourages participation from everyone which makes time pass by faster & you absorb the information without even knowing. He has a jokester personality & exams are easy as long as you read the PowerPoints. A lot of it is common sense honestly.
I took him over the summer for a 6-week course in person. Great professor, very caring and loves to tell jokes. I learned a lot about nutrition within the short span. The class is fairly easy, he doesn't give too much work besides the 5 exams. Their easy if you look over your notes. He does have review exams prepared. Just listen and come to class.
His lectures are interesting, he is really nice, he would help you with all your questions, I would take him again with my eyes close, he reply emails really fast, if I could I would grade him as a 100%
He's really cool and tries to make the class laugh. It's a regular difficult class you should study but it really is not a lot to study. We don't get any homework. Maybe one assignment to help study for your tests.
Professor Monserrate is the best professor to take when it comes to this course because his class is very easygoing. No homework so he pushes for a lot of class participation. He also gives study guides for you to fill out to study with for the quizzes. He also gives answers to the study guide in class, you just got to ask.
Just a good professor overall.
Only 5 test only 4 count towards final grade. His lecture interesting and class overall not hard, just little study
Professor Monserrate is a caring professor that wants you to succeed and shows that in each class. He's big on participation even if it is just to say, "I'm not sure of the answer". He responds to emails and is very helpful. There are 5 tests he provides a study guide for each and helps you complete while lecturing or you can email him questions.
He was great! Definitely required participation!!! He is a heavy grader but there's only 5 exams and but 4 are counted towards the final grade and maybe a paper, Heavy on lectures but he gives us study guides for exams, 100% recommend!
Very good professor, teaches very clearly and cares about each and every one of his students. This class has 4 exams and one assignment throughout the semester. I would recommend taking him!!!
Had an amazing experience with Professor Monserrate, his class is very easy going and forward. He loves participation, so if you want to get along and recognize is his class try to participate even if the answer is wrong he really appreciates people comments through the lectures. Very organize with his work and exams.
Professor Monserrate was great! Very understanding and keep you involved throughout the whole lecture.
Amazing professor, class is super easy and immersive. No homework but there is 4 easy tests and a final project. He is really understanding and class is not bad at all.
Great professor , he is nice, participation does matter. Grades based off quizzes and an easy report at the end. Super good class to take.
Profesor J. Monserrate loves to help students learn and succeed. He gives amazing lectures, helps you understand concepts, and enrich his class relating his work experience as a dietitian and nutritionist. He does reviews, and 4-5 tests.
Easy professor to work with, keeps his word, and is passionate about what he teaches
This professor is amazing, he is hilarious great at teaching, understanding and very kind. He also provides study guides and gives a lot of help. Highly Recommended
Grade is based off 5 quizzes. Pay attention and read questions carefully! He talks a lot too.
The best experience I have had at MDC has been with this professor. Super funny, make sure everyone understands, easy, simple and explains very well. After each module you will do a small quiz so there is no midterm or final. A week before the quiz he gives you a review test where he has the questions and during class he answers them.
Professor Monserrate is one of the best professors I have had at MDC. He is super caring and someone that is knowledgeable. He knows how to make everyone feel comfortable. His class is 4 test that are online and have 2 short essays that are about a reading and one that is about yourself. I reccomend taking this class you won't regret it.
I know he has good reviews, but he is very unorganized, pretty difficult to get in touch with, and gives questionable assignments as they are loosely related to typical nutritional science topics. He is strict with participation and encourages everyone to include in the conversation. Tests and assignments are all online but hard to find online.
Professor Monserrate was one of the best teachers that I've ever had his class is fairly easy as long as you pay attention to the PowerPoint. The tests and quizzes aren't proctored. Professor Monserrate is always there to help you and gives extra credit for just simply participating in his class . Does not require a face cam on he is the best.
There is a lot of good professors out there, and professor Monserrate is one of them. If you need this class for a credit, I suggest you take him. He is really kind and understanding. He gives a decent workload, but it isn't hard. There is a proctored midterm but if you do the homework you shouldn't do too bad on the test. He is a really good Prof.
His class was easy. It consisted of 5 exams and 1 paper. Since I took him online, all of the tests were in Canvas and not proctored. He cares about participation, he got upset a couple of times bc people were not participating in the class. He cares about his students and he is passionate about what he teaches.
If you have any technical problems with the test, Monserrate will help and find a solution for you. There are only 5 tests with no assignments. Half of the tests are proctored. Monserrate is very funny, even for halloween he dressed up through zoom. The motivated and not so motivated students, both will pass easily with this amazing professor.
The only grades are five proctored, camera on exams. He is SUPER kind and will help you with any problem you might be having. He does prefer if you participate but it's not exactly mandatory. Attendance is required and he takes it at the end of class each time. He is the kindest person you will ever meet and super understanding!
Professor gets extremely annoyed if you do not actively participate. he has started proctoring all his exams as of this semester in 2024 so be aware of that. tests are similar to the lectures. no hw but he says he will be adding hw after this semester.
Professor Monserrate's class is pretty straightforward. The work is manageable, and he's great at making everyone feel comfortable. Definitely use Unstuck AI and the free textbook to do well.
five proctored exams that were fairly easy. he spends so much of class time taking attendance and asking if we are there. Very annoying. He is fairly nice but very disorganized. does not do a great job explaining anything. decided in the middle of the semester to require cameras on exams.
I don't even know how to go about rating this man..he is a very sweet old man but is annoying at times. He wants you to participate and sometimes gets too loud and throws a fit when you don't. Class is unfortunately really boring, I only had about 5 exams and 1 essay. He will not offer you extra credit, so don't waste your time even asking him.
He never answered emails and started the class two weeks late leaving the whole class completely unprepared. And when I had trouble with my midterm (it shut down for no reason) he said he'd give me a retake and never did. This was an online class.
Please listen to the previous reviews; I didn't and regret it. This professor disrespected me and my classmates' time, has a short temper, doesn't offer makeups even if you're having a family emergency that you let him know about days in advance, and is unorganized with everything; very inconsistent. Don't take his class, save yourself a headache.
First class starter, his canvas was unorganized. He is unprofessional when it comes to technology, has multiple tabs up at all times. He doesn't even understand any of the programs he is using but expects us to be on top of it. He explains 20 different things before class and then expects everyone to know it, on top of lecture. Like jeez bro.
Very disorganized and over the place, no planning skills, confusing dates, due dates for assignments are wrong. Does not take constructive criticism as all students mention there is no structure or plans in the class
Class was very easy and the amount of assignments was very minimal considering this was an online class. However I would probably wait another semester if you want to take him for spring 2026 because he made a lot of changes to the class and it felt very disorganized, also he never answers emails. 12 hws, 5 non proctored exams, & 1 proctored exam.
Easy class, make sure to stay on time with schedule and most of the assignments were on mcgrawhill and one final research paper. He sometimes replies late through email but is always helpful and caring. Highly recommend to take this class for online nutrition!!
