Mr. Romero was the best teacher I've ever had. I highly reccomend him especially if you suck in math. I love him!
HE WAS VERY GOOD AND CLEAR BUT HIS TESTS WERE HARD. BUT HE WAS WILLING TO HELP IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS. GREAT PROFESSOR OVERALL
He is very helpful and is the best math teacher i've ever had. if you pay attention in class and do your homework you should easily make a B if not an A!!!
A wonderful professor. He is very thorough and easy to follow. He encourages questions, and will help if you ask. He is truly one of the best teachers I have ever had.
moves a bit to fast, if your not good in math consider taking someone else,
If you are not good at math he might not be the teacher for you.Does go over subjects you arent catching but doesnt go in depth on how to figure out problems.if you need a good review sheet for tests he is not the teacher for you.he does try and make sure that everyone gets their questions answered.
I am horrible at math and he was one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is willing to help you in any way. If you don't understand then just ask he will not stop until you understand. His test can be hard if you don't study. He's awsome.
he moves to fast only 4 test if you fail one you wont pass dont take trust me
He is a great Math teacher. Explains the math problems in depth. Very easy to understand his way of teacher.
Amazing math teacher, knows when your confused, helps you untill you understand it completly. Never has any tricks. Very Clear. Very reasonable. Always on time, and drops lowest grade. Worth taking. He's awesome! Never had such a great math teacher!
had a lot of worksheets. very helpful in all areas of math. will take him for mac 1105 great teacher
Best math teacher I've ever had! I'd recommend him to anyone.
Jorge is a great teacher. He can be fast at times, but will always re-explain. You earn your grade, it is not given to you. He wants you to pass but you have to do the work. He has a tutor program which I recommend, ensuring that 30% of your grade is an A. You can pass with Jorge and some time and effort!
I used to hate algebra, that was until I took this course taught by Romero. He explained everything so that we could understand it, and took time to make sure everyone understood the material. He would work several problems, then have us try. Come to class everyday you will not have a problem.highly recomended/I want to be an account now!
I JUST LOVE HIM! HE's WONDERFUL! TAKE HIM!
awesome teacher!!!!!!! very helpful!!!!

he's a great teacher for a horrible subject.
He's an awesome teacher for this kind of thing. Really clear in his examples and easy to get along with. The class sucks, but it's not as bad with him.
Best math teacher I have ever had. I'm going to use him for my future math classes.
He taught the first class I ever took in college. Ten classes later, he is still the best teacher I have had. I love him!
HE DOESN'T TEACH HE REVIEWS!
This class sucked butt b/c he constantly said that it was a "review" but never taught anything. Never helped with anything. Only interested in the students in other math classes that were having trouble. Didn't care about students in this class who were failing. Assigned homework like this was our only class! Not worth it!

His class is very helpful in preparing you for college algebra if your are willing to take the time to learn. I am also taking him again this semester.
Great teaching style for those that are visual
Having been out of school for over 19 years, it was a pleasure to be in a class in which the professor truly cared about the students and their ability to understand the material. I will be taking all of my future math classes with him!
He is more concerned about keeping up with his syllabus then making sure everyone understands the material before moving on. Students would ask questions and if we still did not understand he would stop answering questions and start with other things. The subject is so simple to him that he does not understand the problems that we were having.
Very good teacher. Had him twice always helpful and fair. As with all Algebra classes you must do the work and pay attention. Great teacher would highly recommend to anyone.
This course is not a good idea to take during summer. The chapters are so cram & professor really tries to go with syllabus. Sometimes it feels like the professor thinks we know it already but we're clueless. Ask questions!
nice guy but did not understanding anything that he said in class. he does not like ansewering questions in class.
Very good teacher. Makes sure you understand the material. Really sticks to the syllabus, so in one day, you may cover 2-3 sections (he stays on schedule). Very motivating. I will try to take my future courses with him.
It is very clear it make's it easy to learn
He is an excellent teacher. He is very clear and helpful. I highly recommend him!
Mr. Romero's class is very easy. In his class, we have to do 10 hours of volunteer service learning. If we do it, it considers 25% of final grades that can increase our GPA.
Good teacher. Do the homework, study for the tests, attend class, and ask questions. Easy class.
Very clear and detailed. Good at his profession
He is more concerned about keeping up with his syllabus then making sure everyone understands the material before moving on. Students would ask questions and if we still did not understand he would stop answering questions and start with other things. He is a nice guy but I needed a good teacher.
I've struggled with math all my life, this is the first course I have ever taken that I understood and was helped in. He's an amazing professor & very helpful.
Professor Romero is a good teacher for those who are not strong in math. It is a stress free class...He is one of the best Math teachers I have had.....
College Algebra Class is hard content, but he does his best to make sure you get it. He is funny and nice. Do your homework each day or you will fall behind.
Romero is a really cool teacher. He explanins everything thoroughly and clear. I would recommend him to every one. He really cares about passing his students.
Not an easy class. My only C in college. He has the students do the review problems without kowing if they are correct. Study alot and do all the homework problems.
He is very clear when he is talking and explaing the section. He is an easy A if you are studying for the test. If you do homework then you will pass.
VERY clear and organized teacher!!He made it easy to understand the work and homework is just extra credit added to your tests. Tests are not multiple choice, but they are fairly easy. Just go to class, pay attention, and you'll be fine!! I recommend him, he's AWESOME!!
I don't like math anyway, and after taking him...I still don't like it. Statistics wasn't impossible, but it wasn't easy either. I don't recommend him if you're taking Stat.
Solid math teacher... Just don't miss his lectures and you'll do fine... He explains everything clearly and his tests are fair... Im taking him again in the fall
He is a wonderful teacher! Very helpful and caring individual. I never enjoyed or understood math until I took his class. He is one of the best professors on HCC campus!
He is a wonderful teacher! Very helpful and caring individual. I never enjoyed or understood math until I took his class. He is one of the best professors on HCC campus!
He is terrible, he doesn't answer questions and his tests are not multiple choice. If you don't understand something don't expect him to help out because he won't. I would not recommend him to anyone who cares about getting an A.
Dont take this man for Statistics. Take another teacher. He teaches way to fast. He also teachs way too much material in one day. He isnt clear onwhat is going to be on the test. If you have this guy there is no point in going to class just study from the book. Worse teacher at HCC.
NO NO NO, GOD I TOOK HIM 2 TIMES AND STILL FAILED. NEVERRRRRR AGAIN FOR NOTHING! UGH. TEST, NOTHING LIKE REVIEWS
Horrible teacher!!! The worst teacher at HCC! He is not clear on what is going to be on the exams. The HW and the review he gives do not go along with what is going to be on the test. HW is extra credit, but he does give alot of it. Teaches material that isnt on the exam and puts things on the exam that he never taught! Do not take this professor!
Horrible instructor, not concerned at all with the learning process. To fast, did not care about anything. Just there to make his money. Does not even have office hours, except 7am. Makes no effort to teach. It is all up to you. Hard as a teacher can be. Not even good in lecturing.
I don't know if I'm rating the wrong teacher or what but the Romero that taught me was the best math teacher I've ever had. If you listen to all the other comments you think he is a monster but he is actually very helpful, clear and easy. I would recommend him to anyone that is not lazy and actually wants to learn.
Dont take him.he doesnt explain the work through well. All he does is teach you it quick, jumps right into the book and expects you to know how to do the problem when he showed you one or two examples!!
Is a good teacher. He teaches a little fast. But reviews when help is needed
I loved him! He was really great. Im getting up at 7 just to take him for the next level of math because his only class is at 8!
he a good prof. dosen't make people feel stupid when they ask a question. But his tests and eaxms are free response. If you are the type of person who dose not study for the test stay away!
He is fast pace. He has a good sense of humor. His HW was not very helpfull to learn off of. His tests are a challenge. If you miss one class you will regret it. If your a slow learner to new things especially math (like me), then i advise you look for a different full time professor. He was not my fav math teacher
Excellent teacher, he knows exactly how to explain so you can understand math. If you do the homweork, u should be ok with the test. Need the book for everything.
i've never been good at math. he is a great teacher at the beginning for reviewing past material. then you start getting into new things and he is way to fast. he expects you to know way more than necessary. i would reccomend a slower paced teacher.
He is not a bad guy but man does he suck at explaining things!!! he doesnt like to go over homework (just at the end of Class) All he says is ARE YOU WITH ME and goes on like as if everyone was really understanding him!! if you are not that good at math or struggle understanding it DO NOT TAKE HIM, i had to withdraw bis class!!
Do not really recommend this teacher. He does explain problems well and does a lot of examples, but when it comes to testing there is no multiple choice, its free responce. There's only 3 test the whole semester and those are your only 3 grades, goodluck trying to pass based upon 3 tests (which the 3 tests includes the final)!
this so called professor uses a different book to teach and make up his tests, one very different than the one which is mandatory for the course and used for the homework and to study!!! i would advise you not to take this class if you want to learn and pass! i will contact the dean to fix this problem so that no one has suffer in this class again.
He is good teacher............but you have to make time to study and do homework because his tests are not easy
Not a bad professor. He does teach a little fast and does expect students to know the material before class. he has a sense of humor, a bit sarcastic and will give him another shot next semester.
This a professor that believes in hard work pays great results. If you think you are going to show up and get a good grade.....do not take his class. He works to ensure that you understand the material, but does not hold your hand in the process. If you keep up with homework and study for tests the finals will be easy.
I think he's a wonderful teacher..he actually cares about the student and makes sure you understand the material..i love him already will def be taking him for 1033.
Romero is a great Professor. This is the 2nd math class I took with him and will be taking a 3rd with him in spring. Explains everything well, has office hours, is upbeat, has a sense of humor, homework not required but adds points to test if turned in, Tests are fair, As long as you study, do homework and want to learn you will get an easy A or B
He's a pretty good teacher. Seems like he gets angry if you ask him questions about the same thing too much tho. He's pretty clear on things so you can't really miss much
He goes at a quick pace! His tests are fair if you really study. If you are not very good in math I would recommend someone who doesn't mind a little reveiw. He seems a bit frustrated when you forget some old material.
Romero is an average teacher. The information is mostly easy and the class is an easy A if you do the homework. He doesn't require that you do homework, but he will give you 5 extra points on each test if you do it. Also, the homework usually makes you understand the problems more clearly. Easy class...okay teacher.
Barley understood him when he talked...made a few mistakes and got confused. I have good grades in all classes, except for this one...i do not recommend him.
Awesome teacher....if you attend class and do homework you will easily pass the class with A, the key thing is that homework is not mandatory and attendance not required so unless you are a disciplined person you won't do great..because the key to pass the class again is to do the homework and attend class.
awesome teacher. ive been out of school for a year and a half and i thought i would have trouble but it was so easy! he really explains all problems and is available for help after class. got A's on all my tests, you just need to attend and do your homework, althogh neither is required. only 3 tests(hw is 5 pts exra crdit on the tests) and the final.
he is an amazing math teacher... at first he seems a little strict but he isn't bad at all.. My advice is to just show up to class and you should get an easy A... I never used to do well in math but with him I was finally able to understand it and to get an A. I took him for college algebra and he was amazing I will continue to take him for whateve
AWESOME MATH TEACHER
information dispensor- tells you one way to do a problem then gives you the short cuts-- as many as he knows... by the time you get home-- they are blended into mish -mosh...educate means to bring out from with in. understanding math would be nice. just seeing numbers fly across a black board is useless
Great instructor in my opinion. Rather sensitive to unusual questions but no big deal. Tests are relatively easy compared to his lectures. I'm taking MAT 1133 with him again next semester. Definitely recommended.
Don't take him for Statistics! I'm at UTampa now, and my MIS professor has been telling us on certain lectures, "You should've learned this in statistics..." Well, guess what, I didn't! I see a lot of good comments for him on the lower-level math courses. Fine. Just don't take him for STA 2023!
Don't take him for Statistics! I went to his office for more help he explained it the say way and told me he could not explain it a different way
there are only 3 test in the whole semester which made it hard too remember all of the material. on top of that he goes way to fast and when you ask a question he looks at you like you are stupid. DON'T TAKE HIM
Although I didn't pass his class, he is a good teacher more suitable for those with a strong grip on algebra. He is funny and personable and does give extra credit. Very interactive with the class and certainly knows his math. I admit, I need someone a little more fundamental, but he is without a doubt a good teacher.
he speaks good English, but just has an accent. he knows his math but go way to fast. hes funny and when you ask a question he looks at you like you stupid. i do not recommend him unless math is your strong point.
Math is hard for me, I struggled in his class. He is funny but does move to fast. Gives way to much homework and helps you but makes you feel stupid at the same time. I really needed to pass this class and when I failed the exam he would not let me retake it.Even though I was in the hospital the week before the exam.other than that nice guy i guess
to be sincerely he is a hard teacher kind of serious person but good teacher he explain very well the class. If math is not ur strongest side does not take it but if u are good then take it as a challenge ;) ;)
Great teacher! As long as you attend class and pay attention, you will get an A.
First off, i am not good at math, but taking this guy is great. He explains things to a T. As long as you do your homework, you will pass. Only the first and last test was hard for me. The rest are easy, I got an A.
Great professor, really helpfull . His pace is very fast and he will teach and test on all the optional material. Talking to other 1105 students we are 4-5 sections ahead of them at any given time. If you plan to go on in math take him...if not, and you just want an A, find some one else.
I love Romero i have had other math professors at hcc but i prefer him! Just do the homework. And he is always in his office hours offering help. Hes quiet funny aswell.
He talks too fast but he's funny and is willing to help. He's not afraid to slap an F on any test so do the homework!
He goes over all of the information very specifically. Attendance is not mandatory, so you can choose when to come to class or not. He takes attendance, but it doesn't factor in. Do the homework, study for the tests and you'll be fine.
Great teacher explains everything well....and likes to make jokes, he talks fast but by the end of class you leave there felling confident that you know the material covered in class. The tests are very similar to the homework so if you do the homework you should do well on the test. I'm not great in math but his class helped a lot! Take his class.
Romero was consistent with his teachings. I was able to fully understand the material. He gives extra credit on exams which is a huge plus! :)
He is an excellent teacher that uses the book over MathXL, gives homework but uses the homework as extra points towards the tests.
he is ok. i got an A in all my test, but i was absent 80% of the clasess so end up with a B
very good teacher who is passionate about his profession(he would love for everyone to become a maths prof.) Homework, from text book 5pts and tet base on hw. Don't uses MathXL.However, he make it's an option for those who would like extra help;show up for class.would able to make at least a B by end of semester, according to the effort you put in.
MR.ROMERO WAS A VERY GOOD TEACHER. HE DOESNT LIKE ANYONE USING OR MESSING AROUND WITH THEIR CELLPHONES. HE DOES HAS A SENSE OF HUMOR INWHICH WAS FUNNY, BUT AS LONG AS YOU PUT FORTH EFFORT ( MAKE SURE YOU COMPLETE ALL HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS) YOU WILL DO FIND WITH ROMERO.
I've always struggled in math, but I just finished his summer course with an A, this was the direct result of good attendance, focusing during his lectures and taking adequate notes, re-reading his notes after class, and perusing the book to see different approaches to homework.COMPLETE ALL HOMEWORK AND HIS FINAL EXAM STUDY GUIDE FOR A PASSING GRADE
Professor Romero is the bomb. Algebra just plain sucks and he makes class fun. Turn your phone off!!! Be ready to learn and laugh. I learned more algebra so far with Romero than my previous years combined.
He is a fair and nice professor. He answers questions on tests and quizzes plus homework and quizzes are both extra credit. Attendance is important to succeeding in this class but I would take him again if I could. He's a pretty funny guy.
Great teacher! His class is straightforward. He's very open to questions, and will explain things until you understand. DO THE HOMEWORK. Tests are simple if you do, and he gives you extra credit on tests for it. Pop quizzes are also given which give you another opportunity for extra credit Calculator is heavily used.
Mr. Romero is an AWSOME professor math has always been my worst topic but Romero makes it seem so easy. I passed his class with an A both semesters. He does use the textbook and most of his work is book work nothing is online. :) He is willing to help every student if they try. Best math professor ever!
Mr.Romero is a great professor! He is very fair, and genuinely cares about your success! He is clear in his lessons, gives extra credit quizzes worth 3-5 points to add to your test grades, and prepares you VERY well for the final exam. You should attend class every day, and do the homework on schedule. No cell phones!! He hates them. :) Love him!
Funny instructor and his way of teaching is meant for you to be fully prepared for he next class. I feel he moved too quick though and didn't give any extra points...e often called off quizzes that may have helped my grade. very frustrating since I did try and needed t pass this class. I had to withdraw
Great professor. Easy to understand. Offers a few extra credit quizzes & motivates you when you need help. He's a teacher that really cares. You still have to do work, obviously, it's a math class. Go to class. Study for tests. Easy A!
This Professor isn't bad, but I felt that he would make things more complicated than it needed to be. Would of proffered taking another professor. He can be challenging. If your great at math you will be fine. If not, be ready to self teach yourself a bit. Some things he will be clear, somethings not so much. Homework online was helpful.
This is not a bad instructor, however I did feel that he would make things more complicated than they needed to be. I found myself self teaching it to myself a lot of the time. If your good at math go for it. If not take someone else.
He is the best math teacher ever I already signed up for him next semester. Don't miss class cause missing one day is like missing a whole week. Sit up front and try he really cares about his students. I only failed one test because I missed one day and I couldn't teach myself he makes learning it so much easier! !! TAKE HIM
I took MAC0028, 1033, and 1105 with him. he is an amazing teacher... very clear in his lectures and offers extra credit opportunities. BUT if you like to text or fb during his class; u gonna have a bad time! he's organized and very fair, full time faculty and an awesome man :)
He's an amazing teacher, I took him all the way from pre-algebra to statistics. He's tests are fair, and if you do the homework you'll get an A. He's a professional meaning he won't discriminate and always help you out. but remember NEVER TEXT DURING CLASS!!!!!!
Romero is hilarious and blunt hes able to make his students come out of their shells and not afraid to be wrong. he is always there motivating everyone lets you know exactly what your doing wrong and how to correct it, whenever i am confused i can count on Romero even if it is the same question he is very patient
Romero is a fantastic professor, very good at what he does. You don't need the book for the class, but you do need mystatslab. The homework is easy. The tests are easy so long as you actually go to class. But he's so funny and entertaining that you'll find yourself wanting to go to class anyway.
Great Professor.
Hands down best prof. for taking 1105. Romero has excellent lectures which are crystal clear. His teaching method is perfect and students pick up quickly. Romero only tests you on the material that he has taught and it's guaranteed that if you do what you're supposed to, you'll e perfectly fine.
Clear, concise, confident. Great math teacher if you actually wantneed to learn. He can preach about doing homework, doing the right thing, we're all adults, etc.
Professor Romero is an amazing teacher. His classes are really clear and he takes time to expain you. He makes classes funny and interesting. I would take him again for all my math classes and STA. Highly recommended!!
Professor Romero is a great teacher. He jokes a lot which make you come to class. You wont b bored at all in his class. The test are easy, and he gives extra credit. Dont use your phone. He hates them.
Very strict but very good teacher.
If you do the work he lays out for you and ask questions when you're confused, you will most likely breeze through this class. This was my experience. If you are lazy and expect to do nothing then you will most likely do poorly. I cannot stress those two things above enough. Imo all courses should be structured like his. Would take again.
He was such an amazing teacher and connects the math to life scenarios but is really funny and not a corny funny either. There was only three test the whole 8 week semester and on the final exam it was only 25 questions! I'm taking him for all of my maths at HCC! If you want an A sign up for his class. The class is half lect half aleks work online.
Romero is a very fast paced teacher. If you like to learn at a slow pace where the teacher will continuously stop the lecture to pay attention to a specific student, then this is not the teacher for you. He will stop to help you but he does like to move on, yet after the lecture is over he will help you as much as possible.
Very confusing on his lectures and a tough grader. He's also very strict on phones in the classroom.
I hate school and struggle with a lot of my classes but he is perfect at getting you through as long as you pay attention. He has a wonderful humor and makes the classes worth going
There is no deadline for homework, it is all on YOU! You have to come to class and focus, if you pull out a cellphone in his class he will kick you out.
You have three test and a final for this class and all test are multiple choice. The hardest test is the third one but if you need any help don't be afraid to ask and go to the tutoring area on the second floor of the library. Gives several pop quizzes for bonus points towards your next test 90% of grade is test 10% my mathlab homework only.
explains all the topics really good!
Romero is a great teacher. Tests are mostly multiple choice, with a few free response. I hate that he uses mymathlab but other than that the class is perfect. Good lectures, he can be really funny! Lowest exam grade replaced with final exam grade. Mymathlab homework was 10% of the grade in my class, could be good or bad depending on you.
Romero's ok. He's fine, nothing special. His attendance isn't mandatory, so a lot of people skip class which means that you have to have a lot of discipline to go to class and pass the class. The syllabus doesn't help too much. You don't know when the tests are unless you go into class. I don't like the way he does his MyMathLab. MyMathLab is fine.
Mr. Romero is awesome! I'm not great at math but I understand everything he teaches & do really well on his tests. He will replace the lowest test grade with the final so do well on that. Homework isn't due till the end of the semester and he gives bonus quizzes a lot of the time which add points to the next test. He is the best professor I've had!
He is an amazing professor and teaches the material very well. 4 tests and he gives a couple of extra credit quizzes. Tests are many multiple choice. The final replaces the lowest test grade which helps a lot. I would definitely take him again.
I wouldn't recommend him at all. He's hard to reach if you need help. Doesn't reply to messages through canvas. When you ask him questions during class for better understanding, he puts you on the spot in front of the whole class and only gives a brief little explanation. Only good thing I can say is that he's funny sometimes. Oh, and NO phones :/
This man is the direct assumption of a tool bag. When you ask this man a question, he will promptly make a fool of you. This idiot does not teach, only taunts. I highly suggest if you like being spoken downwards too, to take this class. He will walk around the room during "work time" and will gladly break your concentration by telling you off.
Mr. Romero is a very well respected professor. He takes his job serious and honestly is not mean at all. He is just very straightforward on his rules in the classroom. If you don't ask questions, then you won't get any answers. He even lets you take tests with other classes if you can't make it in for the test date.
Absolutely horrible! You are better off skipping class than going to class. He teaches absolutely nothing. If I knew this class was going to be a 'review' class than I would have taught myself this stuff for free. Instead I am left paying to teach myself the material. Would not recommend. Worst professor I have had in my life!
don't waste your time, he's rude, he knew i was waiting on my book money from the VA and wouldn't make an exception to leave mymathlab open for just one more day thanks to him i wasted my time and part of my gi bill; veterans STAY AWAY.
Mr. Romero is a fast paced teacher. I took the 10 week class over the summer. 40 homework assignments on Mymathlab, its time consuming but add points to final grade and gives extra credit test, 4 tests the final drops the lowest score and replaces. You have to work hard to pass, attend all classes, no phones. Student helpers are great.
All homework was on Aleks. He explains the material well and posts study guides on Canvas. The class was easy, I recommend.
Went in hearing he was good as I sat down. Once started should have left. Calculus is hard but having a calm guide and voice is essential. Did not figure out its smooth working phenomena until a girl sub came in. He Answers all the questions only if you ask. Felt like didn't get a clear principle of what was taught after classes, no aha! moments.
Romero is the best teacher. I took his college algebra too in summer 2017. Now i am doing mac2233. He is very sincere. I like his way of teaching. I would definitely definitely definitely recommend him.
Very fair. I hate Algebra, Mr Romero made it bearable. He wants you to succeed. Would strongly recommend him. Fast paced.
Best Math Professor I ever had.
THIS PROFESSOR WANNA ACT LIKE HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT, WHEN HE IS REALLY CLUELESS. EVEN WHEN I GO SEE A TUTOR, I HAD GAINED AN UNDERSTANDING ABOUT THE MATERIAL.
Gives 3 tests and thats basically youre whole grade gives quizzes but they are only extra credit. Aleks for homework and so much has to be due in one week. The professor himself goes way to fast and doesnt give student chances to try and figure out problems after he explains them. I dont recommend taking him if u dont do well in math
He was a good teacher. The class was long, he gives you time in class to work on ALEKS if you are falling behind. If you dont understand the material he will explain it to you. Got a B overall in the class. Would of got an A but I slept through one of the tests. He also drops your lowest test, so that helps. Just go to class and you will do fine.
Took his summer MAC 1105 class, so everything was a little fast paced, but his notes are clear and he had all of his lectures recorded so you could watch them anytime. He's all business when it comes to math and that's how it should be. Play on your phone and he'll call you out on it. Sit down, shut up, take notes, and ask questions to pass.
He doesn't deal with any nonsense. He expects you to come in and listen to the lecture. Ask questions and do your homework and you would pass. He is a little stuck up, but sometimes good teachers are strict
There were 3 tests that made up 60% of the grade. There's no extra credit either. He didn't post on Canvas AT ALL so you don't find out your grade until the end of the semester Moves from topic to topic WAY too fast. The little homework we had was't on Canvas, it was on Aleks and he never told us we had any due. Didn't give tests on scheduled days
He is very rude, dont take him, I dont recommend him.
Professor teaches course more like a review class. I felt like I was expected to already know everything and was lost the entire time. Taught myself the whole course the last week before finals and managed to get a C.
Prof goes out of his way to help you learn the material. Plenty of opportuities to be successful and is very helpful. Has plenty of videos and review material to help you refresh you skills. Very serious about what he does and expects a lot out of his students. You really learn in this class. I recommend him for all classes.
This course could be taken on line because of all the extra materials the teacher provides. The videos that accompany the sections are great and very helpful. You can easily pass if you do your work. Will take again. Encourages group work and lots of extras to pass.
Actually, I was not good in math. Since I came to study with this professor, I felt that I was very lucky. His teaching techniques are easy to understand. I never feel bored of having to come to the class. He always give you extra credit to help your test scores.
He's a cool person, teaching wise i feel like he doesnt interact much with students just a hand full. currently taking him now and i feel like i havent learned anything. math is my strongest subject and im failing the class. i wouldnt recommend him. if i knew it was going to be like this i would have taken an online course.
Took this class as a refresh for high school algebra. Class consists of only lectures. Little to no student interaction. Rude and uncaring. Has made mistakes in lectures on a couple occasions. Would not take a class with him again
You could ask as many questions and he would try to explain until you understand
I failed this course due to my own ignorance. He is an awesome math teacher. I definitely deserved an F but he was courteous enough to give me a D.
Love Romero! I took him for Coll. Alg in the summer & quickly signed up to take him for pre-calc in the fall (B). He gives u everything u could need to pass, from his time to pre-recorded videos u can access at any time. He makes it so that as long u show up, pay attn & do your work u will pass. He can be hard but only b/c he gives u EVERYTHING!
Most of the positive reviews here are for MAT1033 and MAC1105. Took him for MAC1140 and felt lost most of the time. He just writes on the board and expects you to know everything. Tests are hard no matter how much you study. He has on many occasions made mistakes in lecture and on tests he takes points off for the simplest mistakes!
Great teacher. Provides tons of resources outside of lecture. Just not someone who teaches in a style I personally was able to learn from. He gives you all of the tools that you need to succeed but the very few things you are graded on give little wiggle room. 3 tests make up 90% of your grade and homework 10%.
Decent professor , but I couldnt learn from his teaching style well. Provided lots of material , but its really unorganized. Graded by 5 things , doesnt interact the best with students. Test reviews werent really helpful on the test :/
I took his classes entirely online due to COVID-19 and I was worried because math isn't my strongest subject and I hadn't taken a math class in a while. I really took it upon myself to practice as much as possible completely writing out the questions answering them. He's very good at staying after class to help with questions and grades fast.
Overall, if you take him you better just get ready to have your college life devoted to his class. He likes to challenge students and offers very little help if needed and base his exams your whole grade that if you fail just two them you just wont pass his class. Which pressure students so much. Overall if your not good at math dont take him.
He was a decent teacher. If you listened during the lectures, you could do alright on the exams. I did NOT like his exam formatting and execution. He would make everyone take it on zoom with their microphones on and it was very distracting! He also did not give enough time to take exams. Also had difficulty replying to emails.
He is very prompt in answering any questions you have whether in class or online. The only reason I wouldn't take him again is that he goes WAY too fast (which sucks when there are graphs). There were moments in class where I saw classmates just give up writing notes because they couldn't catch up. Keep in mind, 3 tests make up 90% of your grade.
Romero is the definition of a great professor. His class was difficult but if you participate, ask questions, and ATTEND class you will do great! He is really there to help you pass and gives plenty of opportunities to help raise your grade by extra credit quizzes and giving you a few extra questions on tests. I would love to take him again
Probably the best math teacher I've ever had. I recommend you go to every lecture because if you don't you will get lost. You can still learn outside of class due to the lessons being synchronized with the book but it's best for him to explain it. The tests are easy as long as you show up and do the work
J. Romero is a wonderful teacher. He explains everything in a way you can comprehend, if you dont then he will explain further until you do. He provides you with different types of material that you can utilize to help you with your homework & prepare for exams. He is very thorough in his lectures so if you miss a day, you will be lost. him!
I enjoyed having Professor Romero as my teacher. His teaching habits are very effective, he is always there to answer any questions, and his grading scale is very reasonable. I would recommend Professor Romero to anyone looking for a great math teacher.
I took Prof. Romero as a hybrid class for MAT1033 and absolutely loved him. He is very fair and answers all of your questions. He saves time at the beginning and end of each class to go through any additional questions. Tests are fair and clear. Great reviews provided. Tests in class are mult. choice - online are free response. Highly Recommend!!
The College Algebra course was an enriching learning experience! Thanks to his teaching method every topic was easy to understand. I never needed to ask questions because his explanations were extremely clear. He inspired us every class with his passion for teaching and Math. I definitely recommend everyone to take his class!
He's definitely a hard ass, but he speaks my language. Math used to be something I hated, but this semester (spring 2022) will be the 3rd time I'm taking him on purpose. He's a great teacher! Be prepared to have lots of homework, and show up! He doesn't give hand outs or let you turn in things late but he's a great teacher.
The teacher is not very good at communicating with emails, he is very slow in responding. when i was in the class he would often skip over details of his section very often, he would go over 4 sections a day and it would be very difficult to understand he speeds by and then he would give us quizzes and expect us to do the work when i was lost.
He is not a good teacher. He never made any sense while teaching and skips over stuff like how are we suppose to understand and learn the topics? Also, Exams are 90% of your grade while homework is 10% of your grade. Horrible class, horrible teaching style. 0/10 do NOT take him, I repeat do NOT take him please.
This professor is very knowledgeable about the content and goes the extra mile to help you succeed. You must attend class or you will not pass. One of the best math teacher i have ever had and is very easy to work with but you must attend class.
Very enthusiastic and was clear at explaining things, grading was straight forward which made it easy for me to understand what went wrong
Mr. Romero is a good professor he cares about his students a lot one of my problem while I was taking intermediate algebra was he covers 10 topics in one day he explains good breaks everything down his tests are exactly from the review.
I have had Mr. Romero as a professor for two classes now both 1033 and 1105. He's an amazing teacher and explains the material incredibly well and is very fair in his grading. All pop quizzes are all extra credit points towards tests and though there's a lot of hw it is all very easy to do and doesn't take long at all to do.
He explains the classwork well. If your struggling you just have to ask or stay after class for help. The tests were not hard. I feel like I should have studied more on them. I just studied the review tests before I did the actual test and past them with a B. He do quizzes before each test, but the correct points are added to you test.
Nice Professor but his interests are only his. He doesn't want to meet students outside classroom meetings. Office hours are from 7-8 am until classes start & then he leaves at 1230 and will not meet you unless it's during his time only. Protocol is reading from the PowerPoint word to word & if you ask him a question he doesn't explain the problem.
Currently enrolled in this course, this is just before the first test. This class makes me feel like an idiot because there is no explanation towards the work. He'll walk you through one or two problems then gives you one that doesn't relate to them at all. Expects you to understand and always says "Are you with me?" after every sentence.
Prof Romero is amazing! His classes are dynamic, he explains all the material in detail and answers all questions patiently. Gives several chances for extra points through quizzes. The tests (the last one replaces the worst grade) are easy if you attended classes, did homeworks and the reviews. He is didactic and teaches through practical exercises.
DO NOT SKIP CLASS. You won't be penalized, its just that you'll miss material that will NOT be covered the next time class starts. This prof is extremely lecture heavy but he does give you a small break in class which is good. Tests are graded HEAVILY. Greater than anything else so STUDY. The tests are what got me. Otherwise, pretty good prof.
Very inconsistent Will move you around if you do well but don't take notes POP quizzes. If you are late, there is no extra time and you may never even know the quiz happened. Example of this teaching style: Professor: "Alright, now 2+2=4. Right?" Professor: "Ok, good. Now you try: (3X+6)^2= 3X"
Romero was a good professor, he cared for his students and it shows. His class is fast passes but if you ask question he will make sure you understand. yes the class is heavily graded by tests, but you have pop quiz opportunities to get extra credit on your test, and he tells you when he's going to give them out so you can prepare for them. :)
Good professor! If you don't show up you will not pass, even missing one day is crucial, he does not revisit topics unless it applies to problems he is newly teaching. He does give out quiz's with notice of extra credit opportunities. Make sure to do well on the 3 test as they each make up a lot of your grade.
Goes over everything in detail and very helpful
He honestly only seemed to care about the nursing students. He speeds through problems yet speaks in a slow monotone voice. He also does most of the math in his head and will move on. This is a good course if you're already familiar with the material and want to test out. I don't recommend if you need breakdowns and an actual teacher.
Prof Romero is a good prof. He talks kinda fast and will not review old material if you missed a class. DONT BE LATE AND DONT MISS CLASS! I also recommend doing HW right after class and going to tutoring for extra help to understand the material because math is hard. USE HIS TESTS TO REVIEW FOR UPCOMING TESTS!! Highly recommend him!
The professor is very knowledgeable and explains topics clearly. Attend class and do the homework - it's a lot but manageable. Unstuckstudy was a helpful study tool for me.
He was a good professor overall the only thing that I didn't like was that he only grades test and the homework grade it a percentage at the end of the semester. so if you do bad on the tests that is what your grade is going to be.
Time consuming homework but it is worth it for the tests. He uploads his lectures after class and even has past lectures videos available. Gives mini quizzes that do not affect your grade but work as extra credit and review for the test. Offer different solving approaches on problems. Great professor, would recommend.
Just no. If you struggle with math and are expecting a teacher who will help and guide you, find another one! Romero himself is a nice guy and seems cool, however, you only get 5 grades in his class, 90% of your grade is dependent on four tests. He does very little to review or make sure his class is all on the same page, he is also very negative.
The freakin best. Took him for college algebra too and he's great every time. Concise, professional, straightforward and understanding. Textbook is not free. Hates when you're on your phone + laptops not allowed. Quizzes in class are extra credit towards your tests. Lots of homework so start early. Tests are a massive part of your grade.
Loved taking this professors class!! Would come around to students desks and ask if they needed help solving problems. Gave extra credit on every test!! Went through lectures during class and also encouraged practice time in class to answer questions. Challenged his students to do and be better. I would def take another one of his classes!
I would take again. 4 exams and homework, that's it for grades. Lectures are easy to understand, this class isn't hard to me, but it is a lot of work. Each exams homework takes 8 hours to complete, but you have 3 weeks to complete it or so. He doesn't really respond on Canvas, you'll have to see him after class. Do the HW and you'll be fine
4 exams which makes up 90% of your grade. He is highly disrespectful and not understanding at all. I had a death within my family keeping me from taking the final as I had to pick up extra jobs thus I asked him to round my 89% to a 90% and he simply sent me an email from his IPAD with a refusal and ludicrous claim that students had several chances
