Easy teacher. Lots of homework though. Gets to the point. Easy tests.
he's too hard to understand. and he gives way too much homework. he teaches too fast and you cant learn anything.
Not a very helpful teacher. Teaches way too fast. Gets uncomfortable when asked for too much help. Gets to the point, not in a good way. Should survive if you remember everything from the algebra you learned in HS. Grades primarily based on tests, no make up for them with no exceptions, gives at least 2 sections worth of homework every night.
Teaches to fast. Alot of homework. Test are way to hard. Do not take.
Teaches way to fast. Was not comfortable in asking him questions. Has no patience with students. Hard to understand because he has accent. Not approachable at all!
great teacher.
teaches to fast. trys to teach you 2 subjects a day and gives you hw on it everday. doesnt speak english well. really mad me mad. hard tests. DONT TAKE!!!!!!!1
Awesome teacher, he has you do most of the homework in class and is very helpful.
He was a great math teacher. I am terrified of this subject, but I made it through with flying colors. Make sure not to have too many absences, do your homework, and you will pass with no problems.
Good teacher. Doesn't over help students but I like that because it keeps the class moving. Is willing to help after class if your willing to stay. Overall good teacher and will take him again.
He is an alright teacher. He teaches a little fast and gets sort of irritated when people do not catch on. He doesn't give a lot of homework though, and it's always your in class assignment. He also gives extra credit if you keep a notebook with his notes worth 3% of your grade! He's really hot though. I am not taking him again though.
TYeaches way too fast and doesnt take time to make sure everyone understands. If you need help or have a question he is quick to get irritated or tell you to go to the resource center for help. I also noticed he plays favorites with certain students and wasnt fair to everyone
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!! HE IS HORRIBLE!!!! DOO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND TAKE MATH WITH A TEACHER WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING!
Had alot of fun in his class. Tests are hard cuz you have them every 3 or 4 weeks so you have to retain it all for a while. He doesn't give much extra credit so you have to do well on the tests and sometimes he will throw curve balls in the test that you aren't ready for. You don't have much homework. Only take him if you are serious about school.
I took him.in math 50 i would love to take him agine he was a great teacher. but his class for my math 90 is to many days. If you do the work you will pass very very easy. and he is also a very understanding guy. I went out of ca for family he gave me the work ill need so i wont fall behind. If you have any questions ask him he will help you
He is a great teacher, just do whatever he assigns to you and study for the tests and you will be fine.I would take his class again if I have a chance.Hope you would enjoy his class!
He is great teacher,he cares for students, make sure to do every assignment and prepare for the tests and you would be fine.Hope you would enjoy his class!
One of the best teachers I have ever studied under!
He's a great teacher.. I loved learning from him!
I had him for Math 91 online and he was ok. He does NOT respond to emails, or post things on time. However he does give a practice test and you can count on the actual test having the same material on it. Good class if you are able to teach yourself otherwise dont take him
If you work reasonably hard you will do well in this class. However, if your major depends on math you will need to supplement your learning and challenge yourself.
Great teacher! i don't think I would have been able to pass math with any other teacher and I got an A in his class!
Take someone else for this class! He's fine till Calc II, but gets so confused in Calc III. I would not take him again if I had to!
Mr. Alvarez teaches like a C student. I felt like he didn't care about his class, and moved through things as quickly as possible, without acknowledging multiple ways of solving. He tried to help by going around the room individually, but I found myself sitting for 30 minutes with nothing to do. I could have learned the same from the book alone.
One of the few awesome teachers at this college! He is awesome and very clear and easy to understand. I am horrible at math and he is so patient with helping everyone. I highly recommend him.
ok teacher...but won't give any extra credit...does drop one test though...don't bother buying the textbook, save your money for mathxl, his homework is online
Great teacher explains things very well. and he knows when a student wants to succeed and when not.
There are few days where he actually knows what he's doing. Most of the time he's confused and doesn't seem to know what he's doing. I got by from relying on the math book and Youtube. He's a cool guy, but I wouldn't recommend him unless mathematics is your strong suit.
Valdez will go over the test content and explain anything that you may need help on. Some days he may look as if he doesn't know what hes talking about but he's generally a good professor. You do not need the book. Must do homework to pass. He may go through content fast but try keep up and ask questions if needed. May be difficult for some.
This professor is awesome for the person who sucks at math (much like myself). Like any math class you have to show up. His class is easy if you're not scared to ask questions and are motivated to learn.
Really easy class. The teacher goes over everything you need for tests. Gives a pretest that is similar to the actual test. Also reviews before each test. You can't go wrong in this class. Homework is online and you can retake questions until you get them all correct. No textbook, so attendance is important.
He is a good guy who tries to be a good teacher but he really sucks at teaching calculus 3. It's hard to understand anything he says and he rushes through all the material. I wouldn't recommend taking him for calculus 3.
Best math teacher ever! He is such a wonderful guy he loves to interact with his student and he a really funny guy. :) His class was very much enjoyable .
Was an express class so things were fast tracked which made the class a little more difficult. But Valdez was a good teacher, help was there if you asked for it.
He is a great guy who tries to interact with his student. He is quick but if you have question he will answer. The pretest are like the test and homework is online with unlimited tries there is no reason why anyone should fail.
Amazing guy.
The class was pretty tough, and he rushed through the material. The pretests were similar to the actual tests but he sometimes wouldn't give us the answers to the pretest so we never knew if we were doing it correct. Do the homework, its a big part of your grade. And just try to get in study groups because he doesn't explain the problems very well.
good professor. moves very quickly through the lectures and doesnt always check to see if the students understands what hes talking about. however, tests are pretty straight forward. he gives a pre test a week in advance and its very similar to what the tests look like. overall a good teacher and would take him again.
Professor Valdez gives you the information you need to pass this class. He is not very good at teaching you new concepts. He teaches you shortcuts instead of reasoning. He was helpful in his own way and had a warm and funny personality. He gives a lot of quizzes. He provides reviews for the tests in class. Book and homework are done online.
Professor Valdez is a good professor that moves through lectures rapidy, but does slow down when asked to. He does pay attention to attendance, so don't plan on skipping class. He will drop you if you are failing his class-in order to save you and him time. He does provide study guides for all five of his tests which are identical to the real test.
Great Professor! Thought he was pretty clear on material. Would definitely take him again, easy to understand uses Math XL and gives a practice test prior to every test taken. Attendance matters. Quiz given weekly. As long as you show up and try no reason to not receive a good grade. No textbook used.
He's a good professor. He doesn't require you to have the book. His Study guides are like the teats, so there are no surprises. He's always willing to help. Overall, he's a good Algebra professor.
He is a good teacher but!!! To much homework!!:( I would take him again but in a longer semester.
I absolutely love Prof. Valdez. I took him for math 96 and took him again for math 140.I got A's on both of his classes. He does lecture fast, he gives one homework assignment every lecture and he allows you to use your notebook in quizzes. He is sincerely a genuine guy. show up to class take good notes, do the hw assignment and you will pass
This class focuses on shorts cuts. The problems presented do not have all the steps so it's hard for people to understand. Some of the problems throughout the semester will not even have the end product answer, as steps are skipped. Professer is Not very understanding. The entire semester class was rushed. He doesnt like when questions are asked.
Valdez is to the point. For each section he gives a clear list of instructions for solving. I'm not bad at math, but I don't care for it. I think Valdez has the same mindset. He makes doing algebra seem like assembling IKEA furniture. If you are a math major, I'd say to go elsewhere. But if you're taking the class as a GE req., Valdez is perfect.
Prepare to cover 5 sections in a day. Bring a notebook and take notes then mimic everything he does. No need for textbook. He gives 2% credit for you taking your own notes, which I respect. This professor is high speed so if your brain isn't fast enough, you will tap out! Try not to sit near disruptive people, or people who complain 24/7.
Prof. Valdez is an awesome math teacher. Coming back to the classroom after 12 years he made math very clear to revisit. You must take notes! He gives you a bump on your final grade by keeping a notebook. Online homework through MathXL. His practice tests make it fail proof for the real tests. Pop quizzes to help boost grades.
I took Valdez for Math96 & Math140. Practice Test are similar to the actual test, but u will have to answer the practice questions yourself. Give's extra credit for a project, and extra credit for the daily lecture notes. He makes it so that you cannot fail his class if you actually pay attention do the homework, and attend class. Awesome Teacher!
Very good professor. Had him for Math 96 for Fall 2016, was friendly, organized, knew what he was doing and made my experience at MSJC pretty good. Never had any problems with him.
If you like teachers to be organized, this class might try you! I'm a structured, step-by-step learner, but he can be very scattered. I took notes and read the textbook (+practice problems) to make sense of lecture. Weekly HW. He allows a guided cheat sheet, with practice tests the class before each exam. If you do the work, you can get an A :)
Hes such a great teacher
Get in while you can. Only good stats teacher on campus . Get it how you live
Hes ok, overall, disorganized in his way of explaining his thoughts. Sometimes, explanations of material going over, makes you feel more confused than what your initial thoughts were. Homework is a lot tougher than the way he explains things. Tests are wordy. Beware of pop quizzes
Professor Valdez is not organized in his lectures. We take notes daily of things that are suppose to help you on the test, since you can use notes on the test, but it barely even compares or even helps you. When you ask him a question, he answers it quickly and does not have patience to explain when you don't understand.I wouldn't take him again.
Great, he is kinda cute too! Learned so much from him.
As long as you take good neat notes you should be able to pass no problem. There's a couple projects, homework has max 20 questions for each chapter, he goes over a practice test the class before each exam and if very helpful if you get stuck somewhere and need a little extra explaining.
Prof. Valdez is the best math teacher I have ever had.
He uses Math Xl program for all homework assignments. You are able to use notes on tests and the final. Overall a good choice.
He is a awesome Prof. Show up and take all the notes he allows the notes you take in class for the tests he gives but wont let you use the practice tests. Don't show up, that's on you because he goes fast. He explains concepts fast but just stay on him and ask questions he is fairly nice when you ask for help. I would take him again.
Easy to learn from. Lets you use notes on test, so make sure you have notes that will help you. Don't ask questions during lecture because he will not fully answer them.
One of my favorite professors! Really good at teaching mathematics. There is no way you should fail this class.
Professor Valdez was very helpful and kind. He is willing to work with you and your schedule. He will also help you revise assignments ahead of time so you can get the best grade possible! 10/10
I was intimidated by the work at first, but after reviewing lectures, note taking and homework practice, it becomes very understandable and clear. He supplies you with different formats of learning and it's up to you to put in the work and study to succeed. I'd recommend professor Valdez for statistics.
I have taken statistics once and it was extremely hard. Professor Valdez made it super easy to understand. He was clear and gave us different ways to get the answers. He was supper chill and laid back. If you do all your homework youll be fine.
Disorganized. Creates lecture videos but when you try to apply it with other problems it does not come out right and you have to figure it out. Takes us 1 to 2 hours on HW assignment just for him to not count the assignments at the end. Very annoying how he also makes mistakes while recording and you get confused. I dislike this class so much
Prof Valdez is a really understanding & thorough teacher. He gives written explanations on how to solve each type of concept you go over. I recommend that you attend each lecture to get a better understanding, he does really well with answering questions thoroughly. As long as you pay attention, ask questions & learn the material, it's an easy A!
Highly recommend taking Professor Valdez. Great professor! Responds to emails in a timely manner. Lets you retake test if needed. Very flexible with assignment due dates.
I was scared of math coming to this course, but this class was truly awesome! I recommend studying heavily and watch the videos that he provides! There are 4 tests and the assignments are due the day before the test! He posts pretests so you know what to expect with the video explaining each step! You have a long time to get to know the material!
I took him for statistics. I was beyond terrified since I am not good at math but he made his class very easy to understand! explains very well and is available for help. make sure you watch the video lectures AND take notes of them all! Tests will be based on lectures and the notes will come in handy! He is a great teacher. take him!
Super easy & so understanding! It was such a chill and easy class to attend, work was very medium but nothing too rough. Valdez is super super willing to help you succeed so dont be afraid to ask for help! I would definitely take him again!
definitely recommend this professor if you're looking for a straightforward and not too time-consuming class. very lenient with due days and tries to work with you. lectures are not long and show you exactly step by step what you need to do for the tests. you do need to pay for statcrunch since that is what we mainly used to get our answers.
He is very straightforward with the lectures. Write down all of the notes, since tests are open-notes. Flexible with late work too. As long as you have the notes and study guide written down, you should be able to pass with flying colors.
This professor was easy to follow through with, he truly took the time to make sure to ask if anyone didn't understand a topic before moving on to the next. Provides various examples for problems to ensure your understanding. Overall really down to earth and lectures aren't boring with this professor.
I really enjoyed Professor Valdezs class! His lectures were short and simple. He made sense. He explained every single step, multiple examples. Also, homework was not due until the day before the test which was nice if you got behind, but the assignments were available to do early as well. Hands down, one of my favorite professors.
I took the fully online course for Statistics. I was terrified of math, Ive always been awful and can barely do algebra. This teacher was so great, just watch his step by step lectures (Not that long) and you will do great! I was shocked I kept getting near perfect scores on the tests! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. And dare I say kinda enjoyable. TAKE CLASS!
Hands down one of the best professors at MSJC. Cares about his students. Do the HW, attend lectures, take good notes and you'll be more than fine.
He's a good professor. The lectures are clear, and he is reachable outside of the online class. There are 4 tests that you should pass if you look at the lectures. Each one has about 20 questions; HW is easy. You don't have to take the final if you like your grade after test 4. He gives the option to extend the essay by two more days. Take him!!!!!
Lecture iseasy to understand and homework do and understand the lecture. Participation matters in discussion but they aren't hard. Easiest math class I have taken so far at MSJC. Won't regret taking this class at all. Provides videos for lectures recommend watching.Purchase an online calculator but easy to use and need it for exams and homework.
Great professor! Lectures were super easy to understand and very reachable outside class. 2-3 assignments every week, but not due until exam day. 4 exams throughout the semester, plus a final which is cumulative but completely optional. No textbook is required but requires a Statcrunch program ($15). Highly recommend :)
I loved him as my stats professor and his class was easier than any class I've taken. He's very patient in teaching the class and making sure everyone understands the steps that he's doing, he walks us through the methods, he has homework that is due the day before the tests, &he has projects that are very small and easy. Statcrunch is needed ($15)
Valdez is literally the best. He is so hilarious too. Great person. Great personality. I recommend participating in his lectures. PLEASE watch his videos as well at home. I believe if everyone had this professor, they would pass and understand stats. Valdez is just literally the best. If there are any low rates for him, ignore them.
He's really nice, lectures are all on video and he explains things very well. The reason I got a C was because I was just lazy this class is really easy, he even gives you six hours to complete a 40-50 question quiz. The homework was easy as well
He is a great teacher ! Was always very helpful, would do zoom meetings so he can go over the homework when i needed help. Work was very easy and only 1/2 assignments weekly
It was my first online Math class and it is not my strongest subject, but it was great. His lectures were short but informative. It's truly a "work at your own pace" kind of class for homework as long as you get it done for each section before the tests. Tests were not easy but he gives points for answers and for the work you put into the problem.
He had great videos explaining in details. He gave examples. If you write those down and follow those =on the exams, you will be fine. He gives a pretest and then solutions for the pretest, so in addition to the homework, he prepares you well for exams. The exams are LONG. He is very understanding and very responsive & quick grader. Great professor
Great professor. Lots of homework, but you can keep going until you get it right. the exams are long and kind of hard, but if you watch the lectures where he walks you through exact steps, try the pretest and watch his solution video for the pretest where he walks you through everything, you can do the same on the tests. he grades &responds quickly
The only problem I have is his modules are ALL over the place. It's hard to distinguish what you've learned already and what is upcoming because it's all mixed up. His lectures are helpful but not explained the best. Good thing I understand things pretty easily. I've also never taken 6 hour math tests until I took this class. Pretty draining.
I took this professor for my stats class, and it was truly an amazing experience. His lectures were very clear and informative, and I was always able to successfully understand my assignments. He gives plenty of time to complete/retake assignments. Exams are long, but his pre-tests truly prepare you for them. Highly recommended, learned so much!
