He is somewhat tough but far. You must read/study, and youll do well if you do. He's funny sometimes. Different kind of teacher
Overall an alright teacher. His class is ALOT of reading, and if you dont read it is very very hard to pass the tests and quizes. Plus mandatory attendance sucks, but he does have office hours and extra credit and wants everyone to pass, average professor.
Lots of reading, no way you will pass a test or quiz without reading but he always responds quick to emails and is accommodating in his office hours. Hilarious guy.
My favorite teacher ever. His class is super hard but he gives you all the help you ever ask for. I wouldn't recommend his class if you don't like to read and study A LOT. Expectations are very clear from day 1. I learned a ton in this class. Funny guy.
He is a great teacher. I wish we could have discussed more as a class, but I really enjoyed the class anyway. Super helpful, very clear on what class will be like. Grades tough. Service project can replace final. He does pace, bothered me at first and then I sat a little farther back and didn't look right at him all the time. Worth it!
One of my favorite professors, but is very tough! There is A LOT of reading, and the tests and pop quizzes make sure you did the reading! He is very clear on his expectations. He is a funny guy. He will work with you if he sees you put in effort. Very fair, and I learned a ton from this class. I enjoyed the material a lot!
Amazing Professor. He wants you to succeed and it willing to work with you. He is clear and most of the time tells you what will be on the tests. there is a lot of reading but if you read and COME to class you will pass pretty easily. overall a very fun teacher and helps you understand the hard stuff.
I have to say this was my best professor ever. He made the class so enjoyable. And if you just do the work it is so easy. There are not that many homework assignments but when their is they are easy if you just do the readings. He is a hilarious teacher and makes class fun to be in. I would recommend this class to anyone.
Fantastic teacher! His expectations were clear from the first day of class. There is a TON of reading to do, but he does a good job of helping you understand and apply it. Really not hard to pass if you come to class and do the work, just like he says. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
Jorgen is a great teacher. There was a total of nine assignments done from readings that are pretty easy. He doesn't do tests throughout the semester, just the midterm and final. The material is pretty confusing and graphic (talking about videos of dying animals and people) but he explains it well. You can replace the final with a service project.
Jorgen is awesome. Ethics and Values was such an interesting class thanks to him. He is such a cool guy! He is a younger guy who does not just bash on religion like I heard other professors do. I learned a lot. He only has 2 tests: a midterm and a final. They are hard but if you study you will be fine. He really wants to help you out. Way cool guy!
Such a good teacher. Makes the class interesting and has a great perspective on ethics. Pretty easy class if you just do what you're supposed to. Very charming, hilarious and charismatic! This teacher seriously makes the class.
Great teacher. Lays out exactly how the course will go and what to expect to receive a good grade. Only a mid term and a final which have to be studied for. 9 short assignments from reading and extra credit opportunity. Honestly one of my favorite classes I have taken! Not a busy workload but definitely gets you to think critically.
This class is awesome! You will learn so much!!!! Definitely take this class from Jorgen! The tests can be pretty difficult, but if you show up to class, take notes, and ask questions you shouldn't have any trouble. He has super helpful reviews for every test, so definitely show up for the review days! He is always willing to help, so ask!
Really interesting class!! He makes the lectures fun and easy to listen to. Make sure you go to class and take notes or else you will not pass. Take his class!!
He is a boss teacher. He loves the material that he teaches, and you can tell. The material is very diverse concerning philosophy. You really have to be unconscious to not understand his lectures. Reading the book is not only important for assignments, but because there is a section on tests where you read an excerpt then match to a philosopher.
Jorgen is definitely one of the best teachers at UVU. You will not pass if you don't go to class but the lectures are really interesting. He brings everything back to a personal level so that you understand. Lots of extra credit available and he is quick to answer emails and give help. I actually changed my major to Philosophy after his class. FAB
Jorgen in awesome. He is a great teacher. I really enjoyed his class and learned a lot. He truly cares about his students and is passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. There's a lot of readings but they're so interesting I did not mind at all. His lectures are easy to follow, interesting and funny. Take his class!!
Master Hansen is the man. If you are going to take Ethics & Values, which you have to, take it from someone who knows their stuff, like Jorgen. I am a Philosophy Major, and I enjoyed every day of the course thoroughly. Jorgen's Ethics & Values course gives you new lenses to vie w the world through. Great professor.
My favorite class I've ever taken. Professor Hansen actually cares about his students and gives informative and interesting lectures that actually hold your attention. He works with you if you're struggling, however it's easy to do well in if you come to class and take the notes. If you're gonna take this class, take it from him, he's the best!
Jorgen is really personable. If you're looking for a great, non-biased Ethics and Values professor, take Jorgen!!! I can't say it enough! He has very clear grading criteria and tells you almost EXACTLY what will be on the exams every time so you know what to study! He also makes class really interesting! He gave me a whole new view of Philosophy!
Jorgen is an AWESOME teacher. His lectures are engaging and that makes it easy to want to participate. The readings and the tests are hard if you don't study. You NEED to study and go to class in order to get a good grade. Homeworks are few and easy. 2 tests and 1 term paper as far as big assignments go. Really great class, I highly recommend him.
TAKE THIS CLASS WITH PROFESSOR HANSEN! He cares about his students and will help you with understanding difficult topics. Kant was confusing for me so he explained again and again till I got it! The tests are hard. You have to study and do the readings. Also, go to class and you will significantly do better! I would recommend this teacher.
Hilarious, helpful, and he makes the class so so interesting! Take this class from him or don't take it at all!
Jorgen is seriously the best teacher ever! I almost wish I was a philosophy major to keep taking his classes! The way he teaches helps everyone feel involved, and is on a first-name basis with everyone he teaches. We were able to go on a class trip for his class and it was a blast! TAKE JORGENS CLASSES! He is honestly the reason I didn't drop out!
TAKE THIS CLASS!!! by far one of the best classes that i've taken at UVU. Professor Hansen is very passionate about what he does and it shows in his lessons. You have to study in order to do well on his test but if you do study they are easy. He is very helpful and wants nothing but for his students to succeed! (I took the hybrid class)
He is a great teacher but you have to take notes from the slides. Reading is essential but if you don't have the time, he goes over the essentials. The best and worst thing about this class is that you don't have one steady book or reading.
Excellent teaching style and very structure course.
Great teacher, very clear and concise in his lectures. His office hours are unbelievable, very available to students. He is also very enthusiastic about the subject which makes the class a lot more fun to attend.
Jorgen is awesome! I was dreading taking ethics and values, but I ended up loving his class. I liked the material and the variety of topics we discussed. I definitely left his class feeling enlightened and inspired to be a better person. He makes you keep a daily meditation journal, which is harder than you'd think. Do the work and you will pass.
I took the Ethics and Values Hybrid course. Jorgen is a very genuine professor that will go above and beyond to help you succeed in his class. No textbook. 2 tests. 1 paper. Weekend assignments. He lectures throughout the whole class and reads off of a powerpoint. Make sure to do the readings. He doesn't test on them but you'll get an A.
I enjoyed the material of this class and online wasn't bad at all. There was a LOT of reading and writing, and deadlines matter so you have to stay on top of it. Group discussions. Lots of interesting topics. I got an A, but you definitely have to work for it! The TAs grade almost everything. No textbook - Just online readings & videos.
The biggest problem I had with this class was the grading of assignments was usually a month behind. I didn't know how I was doing in the class, and wasn't able to get feedback about my progress because grading was so delayed.
Prof Hansen was the best professor I have ever had! He is extremely intelligent and passionate about the subject. He wants nothing more that to help the students understand the value of philosophy. He is also extremely respective of students and their views which is a big plus in a philosophy class. Would take again!
Been in college for 4+ years and he is THE BEST professor I have ever had. One of those classes I looked forward to. Worth every penny of tuition.
You will learn a lot from his class and it will benefit you and your life if you participate.
He's a really great lecturer. Most things on the final are taught in class however, and this makes it hard to pass if you plan on skipping a lot.
This guy is awesome. Go to class, do the discussions, do the reading (he'll tell you which ones you can get away with not doing) DO NOT CHEAT. Not even a little. He's seriously one of the best, most honest and straight forward professors. You know exactly what to do, what things show up in the exam. Do the work, and you'll pass. It's worth it.
Good guy, gives great feed back. Take notes, you'll pass. Don't take notes, you won't pass.
Your not just going over Plato and talking in the abstract he shows you how this effects you in your everyday life while making it entertaining.
Simply put, the best I've taken in my college life. Professor is thoughtful, entertaining, fun, educated, and remarkable. Only Pros, no Cons with him!
Great lectures and discussion. Quite funny and very intelligent guy. Knows his stuff. He doesn't look like your average professor. First day, I thought he was a student, but then he began to speak. Such a personally fulfilling class and taught me a lot about critical thinking.
Jorgen is an entertaining professor and he really makes the content easy to understand and applicable to modern life. The class is front-loaded with early philosophers, but Jorgen made these concepts understandable, if complex.
Does NOT want you to do well on tests, which are mostly short essay answers where he requires very specific phrases to be used. Synonyms are not acceptable. He makes everything harder than it has to be. Even the questions on quizzes after watching a movie are impossible to answer even if you watched the movie the night before. He enjoys giving Fs
I loved my ethics and values class. Attendance is mandatory, if you miss a lot of class, you will do bad on the tests. The lectures explain course content very well. He is concerned about what grade you deserve. If you're in class and doing the homework he will help you a ton. If you don't but effort he won't help as much.
Jorgen is an awesome professor, he loves philosophy and is good at teaching it. He only has a midterm and final with a few homeworks and a couple papers. His tests are hard, you have to really study if you want to pass. He will work with you on anything you don't understand.
Really cool guy
Awesome. The most responsive/involved professor I've ever had. Don't take this class from anyone else. He is extremely reasonable & fair. Come to class, take good notes & do the homework - you will have no trouble getting an A. Exams aren't hard if you are participating along the way & utilize his office hours. You can gain a lot from this class.
I love Jorgen! He is kind, funny, caring, and inspirational. There are a few homework/reading assignments but nothing too crazy. The only hard part is studying for the midterm/final, but if you attend the review, you'll do fine. He gives participation points so missing more than two class periods will hurt your grade. I wish he taught more classes!
He does not give good feed back at all!!! He doesn't even make sense when he gives you feed back, so unclear! The readings are all online which is a bonus, But they are like 50+ pages that you have to read that does not make sense at all! He is not willing to go over it with you to make sure you understand it. The Final was so ridiculously HARD!!!
Jorgen is the best teacher I have had! HIs lectures are amazing! As long as you take notes and spend quite a bit of time on the midterm/final you will do great. I thought I would hate this class, but Jorgen knew so many interesting facts and taught the course so well that the course was a blast. Go to class and take quality notes and you'll dogreat
I loved this class. I changed my major to Philosophy as a result of this class, and specifically because of Jorgen. This class is one of those classes that will last you a lifetime. I took this online, and it was one of my harder classes, but the reading got easier as the class progressed. Final was easy, and no quizzes. About 2 assignments/week.
Jorgen is one of the most well prepared professors I've had. He will give you everything you need to succeed in the course. You're job is to show up, participate, take notes and understand that it is not a religion class. Be willing to use what you learn along with what you already know to make the world a better place. Loved his class so much! :)
Fantastic professor. Seriously one of the best I've ever had. I loved everything we discussed in this class. It's not easy for everyone, so prepare to work. A lot of papers, hardcore tests and you CANNOT miss a lecture or you'll fall behind. DO YOUR READING, homework and go to class. GREAT with office hours and help.
I took this class online and even with two TAs, it took weeks to months to get my scores back for assignments. Professor Hansen is also completely uninvolved with group discussions and doesn't given any feedback. I didn't like how the course was set up either - I don't know how much of that was university or department mandated though.
This professor is a really awesome teacher. You can tell that he is well versed in what he is teaching and is very passionate about it. He makes you work for your grade but if you study, go to class, do the readings, and go to office hours you will pass with flying colors. I would definitely take this class again.
I loved this class even though it was difficult. Him and Courtney Davis taught it together. He cares a lot about us as students and wants us to come to office hours! Super helpful. Very interesting. He is hilarious!!! His tests are difficult but he helps you review what you need to study. If you work hard you'll get a good grade and learn a ton.
Jorgen is one of the best professors I've ever had. He obviously cares about the students and always made us laugh. This class was so much fun and really changed the way I see the world.
The pros: Easy class overall, follow the instructions and you will be just fine. The cons: Professor uses multiple graders but still cannot manage to actually get your assignment's graded on time. You will go the entire semester without feedback. Hopefully you get lucky and did everything right, but if you don't you are screwed and won't know it.
Take. This. Class. AMAZING. It honestly changed my life. He cares so deeply about ethics, and genuinely wants students to become better people. It isn't an easy A, so don't take this class unless you want to have your mind blown. I wish I could take this class over and over again. 2 tests, readings, 1 term paper, and AWESOME lectures.
You will REGRET NOT TAKING THIS CLASS!! This class has literally changed my life. I wish I could take it every semester of my college career. Many people don't like the Ethics and Values courses offered here at UVU but wow, I am obsessed with this class. Jorgen is a phenomenal teacher and lives what he teaches! He is hands down the best prof ever.
Jorgen is an amazing teacher. He is one of the best lecturers I have had. Make sure to do your work and you'll do fine.
I took philosophy of psychology with him in the spring 2017 UVU semester. The class was great. He thoroughly understands the subject matter, gives great feedback, and would make a great tenured addition to the UVU faculty.
Jorgen is a boss. His lectures are very well built and he has a real passion for what he teaches. If you sincerely care about what he is teaching, you will learn a lot.I would take him again in a heart beat.
Incredible teacher, very passionate about the subject, respectful of opinions. Would take again.
I loved Jorgen! He was extremely passionate about Ethics and Values. His passion made the class more fun! He has a lot of tattoos, so just keep that in mind if bald, tattooed, white guys make you uncomfortable. It is extremely important to come to class every day if you want to pass!
I loved this class so much! Jorgen is an awesome professor, as well as highly entertaining. You can tell that he's very passionate about the things he teaches. You need to go to the lectures and be prepared to read, but as long as you show up and pay attention, you should get an A. I was sad when it ended. Highly recommended.
Jorgen is amazing! He is very intelligent, and he cares about his students and helping them to be better people. He doesn't want people to waste money on textbooks so he provides all the reading through canvas, and then he discusses and lectures on the reading to help students understand it better. He gives A's to those who make an effort.
Jorgen is the best teacher I've ever had in my life. If I could take his class a million times, I would. He is inspiring and wants his students to care and to succeed.
Jorgen is the single best professor ever. He definitely knows his stuff and he's very passionate about it. The insights he provides are incredible and make you think deeply. I learned so much in this class and the way he taught it all to me was actually very enjoyable. If I ever get the chance to take any class from him again, I absolutely will.
Ethics with Jorgen changed my life. He does an excellent job of discussing relevant and important topics that make you care about events going on around you. If you are willing to do the reading he assigns and come to class, you'll do great on his tests.
I was excited to take this class due to great reviews, but the professor is uninvolved in online classes. His two T.A.'s rarely give full points for papers submitted. I consistently received 1 point less than full credit, even after following the rubric carefully. The material is great, but the class lacks involvement and constructive criticism.
Jorgen is an amazing professor, he really cares about the subject and encourages you to think for yourself. He's one of the best professors I've had.
This is my favorite class I've taken ever so far. Jorgen is personable, easy to approach, chooses content to explore that is fascinating for everyone, and can explain things really well. He really wants you to understand the material and is so willing to meet with you to make sure you can grasp it. The readings are fascinating.
AMAZING CLASS! Highly recommend it! Jorgen is one of the best professors I've ever had. This class very eye opening, thought provoking and makes you think differently about the world we are all living in. Take this class if you can, you won't regret it!!
I took Prof. Hansen's honors class and he is amazing but his class is extremely heavy in lecture and content. I wouldn't recommend sensitive people to take his class because of the heavy content. However, he is OUTSTANDING!!! Hint: GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!!!
This is one of my favorite classes I have ever taken!!. Jorgen Hansen is an amazing professor!! He makes Philosophy interesting and really shows why it is important. As long as you attend class, listen to the lectures, and do the readings it is not hard to get an A. Please Take this Class!!! You will not regret it
Lectures were interesting. He's super structured. The whole class goes exactly as planned. He wanted to make sure we knew that he is smart and cool and we are dumb and lame. But after the first couple of weeks that chilled. The final is nowhere near as hard as he made you think it was. No textbook. He gives copies of readings to download.
Good professor. Always emails back with questions. I am good at reading and responding and that is what this class mostly centered around.
Great class! I learned a lot and took it online too. There were dissuasion groups and lots of reading and small essays but it was manageable and particularly enjoyable.
Awesome teacher- knows his stuff, can't have a laptop in class due to people being turds but his classes are interesting/enjoyable enough where you don't want to have anything distracting lol. Thought provoking material- doesn't waste time reading stuff that wont matter- didn't have to buy the book.
Very good class. I'd recommend to others who would like to be convinced, themselves, that philosophy matters to ordinary life projects.
Jorgen is one of the absolute best professors I've ever had. He is so knowledgeable about the subject, and his lectures are so interesting. I've learned a lot in his class. When he wasn't lecturing, we had breakout sessions with IA's. In the breakouts, you take quizzes based on what you learned during the week in lecture.
Amazing professor, especially for philosophy. He made the class enjoyable and fun. He doesn't allow any technology in the class so prepare to take hand notes. Mandatory on attendance, but you'll want to go because all of his exams are online and open note. He doesn't post powerpoints online. Super easy A if you just pay attention and show up!
Great class, fascinating topics. Didn't love the IA breakout sessions (completely pointless, minus our 1 minute weekly quiz).
Jorgen is by FAR the best teacher I have ever had. I learned more in this class than all my classes I have taken combined. He made philosophy very interesting and reflected it into life situations. His lectures were great and honestly wish they were longer with all the fascinating information he shared. I wish I could take this class again!
You will admire Jorgen. He is an exceptionally intelligent man. He is well prepared and makes his lectures worth it to attend. He is passionate. He expects you to take notes and then do the 3 exams. The exams along with discussion board are the only things. Do the hybrid class. Its twice a week and just take good notes. Hes open to discuss grades
I have taken other philosophy classes before and absolutely hated them--they were so hard! But Jorgen's class, on the other hand, is literally the best class I have ever taken. His lectures are so interesting and he talks about things that are so important. I have learned SO much in this class and I would honestly take his class a 1000 more times.
Jorgen was really good. His class helped me to be more aware of ethical issues and my contribution, or lack of. You HAVE to go to class to succeed in the exams.
This is the only college class I have taken that I truly did not want to miss. I was inspired by the amazing lectures he gave each class. He made me feel like I can make a change in this world and the way he lectured made every topic interesting and easy to grasp. He cares about what he is teaching and that was made clear throughout this semester.
This has been the best class I have ever taken! He gave amazing lectures each class that made it so I didn't want to miss. This class was truly life changing and helped me realize things that are so important. He is a fantastic professor.
Jorgen was my favorite professor. He really changes your world view, so prepare to become a vegan. He keeps class honest and interesting. The class is an easy A if you just show up and listen.
This professor is a fantastic teacher! Excellent lectures that really open up your view to other possibilities. His instructor assistants are very helpful especially when there are large classroom settings. My advice is to talk to the I.A's as much as possible, especially for the first exam to be prepared. I will definitely take his class again!
He is very strict on not using phones in class. He also had us take our exams online so that was awesome.
Grading is terrible. Tests are worth 40 points with each question being worth 10 points so 4 essay questions. I missed one of the essay questions on my first test and since there was a total of 110 points for the entire class, the best grade I could get after that ONE missed question was an A-. It was ridiculous. Professor Hansen is cool though.
Good class. Jorgen can be a little irksome sometimes- very lefty, a little self-important. Other than that, its an easy-going class that covers interesting topics. There are three major exams that are heavily weighted, and attendance quizzes every Friday. Overall, I recommended taking a class from Jorgen, he gives great lectures and is very nice.
I personally enjoyed going to class which is not typical for me. The lectures were fun for me and this class was outside of my major, so I think that shows that it enjoyable. There is little homework, so the biggest thing in this class is to take good notes for the online exams. If I was to ever take a class again for fun, it would be this one.
Jorgen is an amazing professor he bring a whole new view to philosophy. I loved his class, and would definitely take it again!
Prof. Hansen always talked about really interesting topics and if you take good notes and go to all the lectures, you will pass his class with an easy A. His tests are 5 short essay questions but you only have to respond to 4. All the questions should be easily answered if you pay attention and take REALLY GOOD NOTES in class.
This was seriously my favorite class. Every lecture was fantastic and I felt like all the information covered was important. We didn't have any filler assignments throughout the semester, only the exams and the weekly four question quizzes which were super easy if you go to class. Jorgen is an awesome teacher and I hope to take his classes again.
Jorgen Hansen is so funny! Philosophy ended up being my favorite class because of him. The material in class is not all about Socrates and Aristotle like I thought. We learned about sweat shops, genocides, cell phone use, animal rights, women's rights, food ingredients, and tattoo ethics. The class was super chill and easy.
Tests are based on lectures and he doesn't upload slides. But if you go to class and pay attention, you'll know all the information on the tests.
Taking this class from Hansen will make all the difference. -Go to the lectures, all the test material is there and he doesn't upload slides -Offers good amount of extra credit -Lectures are eye-opening, interesting and funny -Makes it worth your time. Covers issues like child labor, civil rights and animal exploitation
Jorgen is one of my favorite professors! You do have to go to class he doesn't upload the slides and so you won't get your notes, and you're going to need notes for the exam. The exams are hard but you MUST do the readings and take good notes & you'll be fine. I was really scared for this class I heard mixed reviews, Jorgens is an awesome prof tho.
You will not pass the tests if you skip class or don't have a friend that takes good notes to borrow from. Crash Course videos are good for rounding out understanding of the ancient philosophers near beginning of the course. DO THE READINGS, at least skimming and/or annotating. Go to the breakouts and ace the weekly quiz or it will sink your grade.
Amazing professor! This class is SO EASY to pass if you just show up to class and take notes, which isn't a drag because the lectures are super entertaining.
My favorite professor I've ever had! This class was so interesting and educational. You DO have to show up because you won't pass the exams if you don't have good notes, but honestly I was *excited* to go to his class. There is a reason Jorgen is rated good; he is passionate, honest, and inspiring.
Great lectures, loved to learn philosophy through Jorgen. Make sure you attend the lectures; they're the most important part of the course. If an option for a smaller class is available, take it. I was in one of his larger classes making it harder to participate in discussions. But it was still a great course and extremely educational.
I had Jorgen for an upper division metaphysics class and it is the most rewarding class Ive ever taken. He consistently raised the bar and helped me achieve what felt impossible every week. It was tough, rewarding, and I left a better philosopher and student then when I came in. Hes very accessible and really cares about student success.
I actually took PHIL 205G which I believe is the same as 2050. I took the class online. There were quizzes after every reading assignment which were SUPER easy if you just read the content. There were short essays due at the end of each module, also super easy. Downside of the class was they didnt keep up on grading. Other than that, easy class!
I loved this class. The professor makes his lectures truly interesting and engaging. He's easily the best professor I've had at this school, I definitely recommend his class!
Hes super passionate about ethics and virtue. He keeps it real and helps you to understand whats really important. Loved his lectures. Make sure you go to class, most of the tests are based on what was said in class.
This class is a good one to take online. This professor puts all the text on canvas so there is no need to purchase a textbook. Weekly quizzes/discussions and some essays but not too difficult! Take this if philo isnt your thing and you dont want to sit in a lecture about it.
If you are taking PHIL 1010 this is the professor you want. There is a reason a majority of his classes finish with A's. You must ALWAYS come to class, do the online discussions (NO ESSAYS) and you will pass with flying colors. Great lectures and prepares you very well for his tests. I thought i would hate this class but i really enjoyed it.
The worst class I have taken in my entire life, it's literally the middle of the semester but I can't stand this class. For heaven's sake DO NOT take this class, Spare yourself from stress.
Worst class I have ever taken. I wrote a paper that followed ALL the guidelines, but it was failed because my "views" were different than what he wanted. Also, the final is four exam essays, 350 words each and 2 hours to do all of it. Mess up? Automatic 0%. Never take this class. Worst teacher I have ever worked with. Save yourself the time.
In this class I read an "article" of sorts and review a power point twice a week. The power point was super helpful and I probably wouldn't have done well without it. If you put in the work and turn things in on time you should get a good grade.
This was online. He gave no verbal lecture videos, they were all outside readings. I received full-credit on all of my papers but never felt engaged with my learning. Do the work, you'll get an A, but it will likely be boring.
Hansen is a tolerant and respected teacher because he encourages discussion and views that differ from one another while maintaining a guiding hand of civility. Every student, no matter their background, hung on this teacher's every word. He was able to present a lot of differing worldviews while opening students up to what they mean for themselves
Jorgen is a great explainer of concepts. I wish I could've taken in person, I think I would've learned even more. Great mind. Class work very manageable. Honestly participate in back-and-forth discussions. He can spot garbage discussion posts. Summaries are straight forward. Discussions were interesting. Easy take alongside heavier courses.
I found this class heavy handed and disturbing. I have spoken with others who took this class from other professors, and all of them say the same thing: They read from philosophers and learned their views. In this class you will read from philosophers, but you will also learn about the darkest things human beings have ever done. In great detail.
If you're not a philosophy major and need a PHIL GE, take his class! You only have to do 10 summaries on readings and 10 discussion posts; much easier and lighter workload than other philosophy classes. You can even get ahead on these things! The only warning I have is that some pretty heavy and sometimes gruesome content is covered in the course.
Jorgen has been one of the best professors I have had at UVU. I felt like he genuinely cared about me and my success even though I am not a philosophy major. As long as you show up to class and do the readings, his course is doable and honestly enjoyable. You will learn more about the real-world application of ethics from him than anyone else.
Jorgen is a one-of-a-kind professor-his lectures are interesting & I genuinely look forward to attending class. Topics are interesting & all connect while still covering a broad range of information. He shares his personality & makes things, even (necessarily) heavy topics, very digestible and applicable to your life. easy yet life-changing class.
By far my favorite professor. Lectures are very interesting and easy to pay attention too. Uses slides but makes lectures interesting. He truly cares about his students and their success. I learned a ton in this class and would 10/10 recommend it to anyone and everyone.
By far my favorite teacher at UVU. He is so real which makes every lecture one to look forward to. If you come to class, skim over the readings, and take notes (if you have a bad memory) then you will do very well. His papers are thought provoking, but not hard. If you come to class they will be a breeze to write. This class was life-changing!!
I took this as a block class, and in the summer, which made it closer to double/triple the pace. Even though we had readings and a 1.5 page paper due every 2-3 days, he's a very fair grader and just cares that you put in the effort. He's very passionate about the subject, and as an online teacher, he's available if/whenever you want to reach out.
One of the most important classes you will take. I don't care what your major is.
Jorgen is by far the best professor I've ever had. Easy to talk to, engaging, and passionate about his subject, he made this class more impactful than any class I've taken before. If you're on the fence about taking one of his classes, JUST TAKE THE CLASS! I learned things I wish I'd known years ago. 1000/10 would recommend!
Jorgen's the kind of guy who makes you feel seen, he cares. I absolutely loved his lectures and learned so much from them. I did get the sense that he had a somewhat liberal agenda with his class curriculum but he always shared a balanced explanation of the other sides of the argument. His story is inspiring and he made school fun. Take his class!
My favorite GenEd teacher. He's really knowledgeable and doesn't waste time. His grading was straightforward and easy. He's an unconventional (in a good way) teacher, so if occasional profanity and cognitive dissonance bother you, well you're probably not ready for a phil class anyways. Also, read the reading assignments (c'mon guys they're easy!)
Course work: One 4-500 word article summery due before every class & four 700 word papers for the semester - class is super easy and a lot of fun, Jorgen is a great teacher and easy to work with if you need help with anything.
Highly recommend Prof. Hansen's online PHIL.205G course! Well laid out with clear expectations of due dates for weekly writing summaries and group discussions. He provides reading options, supporting PPTs, and recorded lectures that make you think outside the box. Fair grading and extra credit offered. His passion for the subject is evident.
Strange things are like to happen in certain upcoming philosophy classes. The sort of coincidences which shake you, which almost whisper to a halfway existence of the impossible. Hang onto skepticism, but expect to be confronted by happenstances which fail to explain themselves via conventional understanding. Exercise caution, withhold expectations
He cracks jokes while making the lecture enjoyable and he's not overly sensitive or insensitive. I wanted to go to class every single time and I finished the class with over 100% and I'm not a student that has A+ grades. If you can write decently, you'll excel. Just don't be on your phone, class flies by, you'll end up missing him and his class.
Such a great professor! Highly recommend taking him at least once. Super passionate about the subject and class flies by every time. This is the class I look forward to.
Professor Hansen's class is a thought-provoking experience. His unconventional teaching style may not be for everyone, but those who engage with it will find it rewarding. The workload is manageable, and unstuck AI was a great study aid alongside the free textbook.
I think he's a super down-to-earth guy for a philosophy professor. Make sure you understand what he wants from the schedule and stick to getting those discussions done. I think he is super fair with how he grade,s though!
I took Jorgen's Ethics and Values class. It made me take a long, hard look at myself. We discussed some monster topics. During the Animal Ethics portion of the class I would leave class, go to my car and bawl my eyes out. It was tough. It was there and then I stopped eating meat. I haven't touched meat in six years. Jorgen changed my life.
Jorgen is very engaging and incredibly chill. As long as you can prove you care, it'll be an easy A. Participation was mandatory, but he was very willing to accommodate my social anxiety so I could still get points without stressing about talking in class. They're also very entertaining and fun in lectures.
Professor Hansen is an excellent instructor who changed my perspective on the subject. I initially wasn't excited about the class, but I ended up enjoying it a bunch. There are weekly deadlines for discussions and papers, but his grading is fair. He is always available to answer questions via email. I highly recommend him for ANYONE needing 205G.
Philosophy is not my thing, but I found this course to be informative and easy enough if you stay on top of weekly assignments. Prof. Hansen does an excellent job of getting to the meat of a subject and telling you why it matters. My perspective has been changed on many things. Definitely take if you need 205G!
Most chill professor I think I have ever had. As long as you do the work required in the class, this class is an easy A. There was not even a final exam. And he offers extra credit.
