Alvarez is a great teacher and his test consist of 2 parts 25 questions and a short essay. Overall there are 4 test and if the last test grade is higher than your lowest one he will substitute the higher grade in that place. He can really explain history!
He goes way too fast and covers too much before he tests you. You are only given two test and a midterm paper. Not everyone is a history majory. More test would help because 1500 - 1800 is way too many years to test over!!!! Extremely hard instructor!
Study , Study , Study
You Will Not Make It In This Class. they should kick him out of UHD.
I have had two classes with Dr. Alvarez. He is by far the most interesting and knowledgeable lecturer I have ever had the pleasure of taking. Do not assume that he is easy;YOU actually have to STUDY to EARN a good grade in his class. Not for slackers!
GREAT TEACHER!!! AWESOME LECTURE BECAUSE OF HIS ENTHUSIASTIC CHARACTER. MAKES HISTORY EXTREMELY INTERESTING TO LEARN. IF CLASS I ACTUALLY LOOKED FORWARD TOO, AND TAUGHT MY PARENTS A THING OR TWO....20 STARS OF RECOMMENDATION FROM ME!THANKS!
One of the best history teachers in existance. I love his class because he makes history vibrant and lively, and the little trivia that he adds here and there adds character to an otherwise potentially boring class. Be ready to take notes.
Awesome professor. Come to class, take notes, and forget about buying the textbook. He explains everything with such clarity that it seems you are looking through a clean window of history; with subtitles.
Great professor, lectures a lot, so be ready to take LOTS OF NOTES! makes you write a big report but gives you plenty of time and help. Only had 2 test during the semester, as long as you take good notes you will be ok. Be ontime so you don't miss the lecture,,
He is Great!!!
Very good professor, knows what hes teaching, def..a great professor...this class is indeed an easy A
He is the best teacher in UHD
Dr. Alvarez is a great professor! His lectures contain alot of material but his test are easy! He goes over material that you might have missed and he doesnt get aggravated when asked the same question over and over. Be teady to take notes!
The other posts say it all - he is the best professor and his knowledge of subject matter is the best! He goes out of his way to help you understand things. If for some chance he can't recall immediately the historical fact to answer your question he takes personal time to look the material up & presents you with a copy. It doesn't hurt he is hot!!
Fast and Funny... pretty cool dude
He is a very interesting teacher, he make history come alive. I never fall sleep in his class. come to class and take note and you are good for the test. you don't really have to read the book for the test. He very funny. alot of note to take but very good class to be in.
SOOO funny! really makes history fun! He is also very enthusiastic! you will not fall asleep! I promise!
Love this class. Prof. Alvarez knows his history. I learned so much in this class--it really brighten my understanding of the early civilizations. History buffs--this one is for you. Take good clear notes and you will not have any problems in this class.
He's a very good teacher but his test are very detailed. Also, he only gives 4 test therefore, if you don't do good on the test....you fail! He does know history but I would not reccomend this class to anyone who will not be majoring in history
His class is so interesting. I actually enjoy going to class! He is funny and he knows his stuff. Tests are multiple choice and are easy if you go to class. Just read your notes and you will do fine. He never tests on the dates, which is helpful because I always forget the little things. He lets you drop your lowest test grade, too! Take him!
This class is of waste of time. I gave all my time to study and write good notes and I end up with a D or a C on the exam. His tests is mainly chose the BEST answer. All the answers are good but he says, chose the BEST. It's 50 question though. It's totally useless and wasting your time. No grades or row call during his class. But I like his lectur
BEST History TEACHER ever!!!!!!! This guy is bad ass!! Teaches real good and keeps the lecture interesting so you will remember a lot! He is real good!!! I passed with an B+!!! Just take notes on his lecture and save money on the book!!!
just got out of his summer 2 class and loved it. I will be taking him again in the fall. Dont waste your money on the book never even opened it. He has the most interesting lectures and they all come from his notes. He gives a review before each test. The tests are scantron multiple choice but can be rather tricky. excellent prof.
VERY GOOD, HARD TESTS THOUGH. DO NOT MISS A CLASS!
Awesome professor! He has a lot of personal stories from historic events which add to the effectiveness of his teaching. I didn’t buy the book for the class and I still passed with a B. Just go to class as much as possible and take notes and you will for sure pass his class. Only 4 multiple choice tests including final he drops lowest test grade.
He is one of the best damn teachers at UHD. You do not need the book if you take copious notes. He makes history interesting whomever person that can do that is worth listening to. His lectures are really interesting you never get bored. Though, sometimes his tests are tricky always pick the best answer. I got an A+ for both 1305-06.
BORING!! i didn't fail but this class was kind of hard. the lecture was different from the test
One of the greatest history professors I had. He is a great lecturer! It’s almost like watching a movie. Amazing guy, extremely helpful and knows his stuff. My major is science but I would take his classes just for fun! The guy is awesome!
I studied enormously and never could get an A with this Professor. I took so many notes, always attended class, participated in class and listened with a hunger to learn. But nonetheless, all I could get on the exams were upper 80's,because he has questions on there with two correct answers,"chose the best", but what if both are correct?
this is the best class i have ever had. i actually am learning new info in his middle eastern history class. this teacher is very knowledgeable but this class is loaded with info so studying is a must. i think if every teacher taught like him there would be a lot more college grads
extremely passionate and lively teacher. He cares deeply about the subject matter and, in turn, makes an hour lecture about US HIST seem interesting. If you take good notes and read the book on occasion, you will pass the class guaranteed!
Best professor ever!! Teaches the subject in a way that makes it interesting and is very willing to work with you. I did horribly in the class but he helped me out and bumped my grade up to a C when I made no higher than a very low D on his tests!!
ONe of the best teachers i´ve had.. he makes history very enjoyable and he is always enthusiastic. he makes funny comments and knows a lot about the subject, be prepared for hard tests, buy the book it will improve your grade a lot, because he makes tricky questions
Great professor... Very interactive and if you follow the reviews and terms he gives you in the syllabus, there's no way you could get lower than a 70 on a test... and I didn't have the required book the whole semester!!...
AMAZING PROFESSOR! i dont like history but his lectures and the way he teaches is enjoyable, he makes the class fun and interesting. i love the way he teaches, easy class, he is very understanding and easy to talk to, i wish ALL professors taught like him, he is one of my favorite professors here and UHD. i would DEF. RECOMMEND taking this class!
BEST PROFESSOR I EVER HAD.
VERY GOOD TEACHER.... Dr. Alvarez is a great explainer, talks crystal clear. No hw only like 3-4 tests. Go to class and take notes and you will be fine. Great guy. Highly recommended!
He was very clear during his lectures and would stay after for any questions.
this man is absoloutely marvelous. comes into class, knows exactly what needs to be done, does it, and youre out. he lectures through the whole class but everything he says is golden. i mean i hated history prior to this and now i look forward to it. its amazing to see a professor who has such passion for such a tedius subject but he goes about it
this man is marvelous. comes into class knows exactly what needs to be done and does it. he lectures through the whole class but everything he says is golden. only downfall is you need ot have a laptop or voice recorder for class. dont depend on writing anything down.he talks to fast. he is staightforward yet approachable.he is seriously amazing
I like this guy I finally understand history. He talks in a way u want to listen to more and more n more n evn more. He says to many " you know what I am saying" and "you see" don't try count them cause you won't be able to keep track of them. The tests don't look hard if u study but the grade does. I studied so hard for his first test and got a B.I am not saying same will happen to u. But u might need to study even harder to get A.If u have any question about hist even outside sub he wil ans u.
Take him greatest history teache ever. Makes history come to life. After leaving his lectures I can think in 360* about how we got here ( America) I love this guy (no homo) take his if want to learn a great deal.
Dr. Alvarez is a wonderful, passionate instructor. I would definitely take him again (I am next semester for 2316)! Prepare to take many notes. Class grade is between 3 exams but if you study & review your notes you will be fine. He's always willing to answer your questions. Recommended!!!!
Dr. Alvarez is a wonderful, passionate instructor. I would definitely take him again. Prepare to take many notes. Class grade is between 3 exams but if you study & review your notes you will be fine. He's always willing to answer your questions. Recommended!!!!
Dr. Alvarez is an awesome lecturer! This is my 2nd class with him & I have thoroughly enjoyed both. Must take detailed notes!! Three exams and that is your grade - not a lot of room for slacking off. But, if you want to learn, absolutely take one of his classes.
You'll learn alot, he's a great teacher. Although, it's relatively hard to make a good grade or an "A".
he is so passionate about his teachings! such a great teacher. you have a review, and notes. if you study you'll be fine. just don't miss class because you will miss info. 4 tests and he drops the lowest grade. :)
Professor Alvarez is very passionate about teaching. He cares about his students and gives great lectures. I would recommend this professor to anybody who is serious about their education. Honestly, Professor Alvarez is one of the best professors on campus.
Very clear - just attend class take notes and study. 3 tests only. Great class to take
GREAT PROFESSOR, extreamly easy as long as you attend class and study his lectures! TAKE HIM!
Takes role during test taking day, not good at all. It is a distraction and takes test taking time from you. No credit is given for attendance, y do it? Four tests drops the lowest grade. He gives you a study guide for each test, but you don't need it, it's just a waste of paper. He tests you over dates. I wouldn't recomend him.
Amazing teacher, His reveiw is very accurate and his notes are very helpful. An Easy A
THE BEST professor UHD employs. Very informative, passionate about what he teaches, wasn't expecting to walk away with any knowledge and have no interest in History but because of this professor, actually loved taking History. Made an easy A, just show up and takes good notes! Notes are GOLDEN in his class! All members in my study group made an A.
He is an awesome professor! You can really tell he is passionate about what he teaches! Very nice guy! If you want to make an A on the tests you must come to class and take notes, study the reviews he gives you, AND READ THE CHAPTERS! all those combined and youll make an A . if you put in as much effort as he does, you'll do great!
four tests, drops the lowest. 99% of all test questions comes from the lecture so do not miss. God knows i didnt read the text book at all but made an easy A. He is like the best history professor ever guys, TAKE HIM.
I took this class in the summer, and I love this teacher. You don't have to read the book, just need to take good notes on what he said in class. I took notes on everything he said, and I did very well. He tested on what he said in class, so pay attention will help! He is the best history instructor!!!
I love this man!! It's like story time when you go to his class. He's AWESOME. 4 exams and drops the lowest grade. You should definitely take him!
4 tests. he drops the lowest one. pretty easy. its a lecture class so be ready to write. To pass the tests i would study and i easily got a's.
He's a great Professor, Exams are easy if you study the studyguide he gives you! 4 Exams and drops the the lower one you had. Really energetic!
I took Alvarez twice because he is truly an amazing professor. He is so clear in his lectures in makes them so fun that i really didn't have to student for the test. TAKE HIM I did not get a text book because he is extremely clear in his lectures but if you plan on missing class i would suggest the book
He is one of the best professors I've had. You do have to come to everyday to take notes and he gives out study guides for every test and if you study that you'll be good for the test. You don't really have to get a textbook because he is really clear on the information. I would take him again!
SUCH A GOOD PROFESSOR! Hated history before taking him.
Great professor. You have to go to class. The questions are straight from his lectures and are very straightforward. I bought a book and opened it once- so no need to get it if you're going to lectures. He's really upbeat and to the point. I enjoyed this class and would take him again if I had the chance. He's helpful and there if you need him.
Absolutely fascinating lectures! You'll learn to love history with him! This professor is friendly, approachable, couple assignments but they are not a big deal. He is all about lectures, no power points or anything as such, as long as you write down notes you'll be good to go on his exams. Amongst the best professors out there!
He is very easy! He will drop the lowest test out of the 4 he gives. At the end of the semester, there is two essays which are very easy. other than that, there is no assignments besides the tests. Take him!
He is an awesome professor that knows his material. Straight forward guy. He gives 4 exams, what you make is what you make. He offer an extra credit book report for your overall grade. His lectures may be long but they are interesting and fun. Overall his a brother!!!
His lectures are mostly him teaching what is in the textbook. You do not need to rent/purchase the textbook. As long as you take really good notes, you will be fine! Your grade is based off of 4 exams, and an optional book review (max of 5 points added to your overall grade). Attendance is required; you miss class, you miss a lot of notes!
Professor Alvarez's class has amazing lectures. This is the only history class I actually liked an understand. If your not a fan of listening and writing then maybe this isn't the class for you. But he does gives vocab words to help in your notes and gives study guides at the start of the semester
Dr. Alvarez is probably one of my all-time favorite professors. His passion for the subject was evident through the manner in which he lectured us over certain topics in history that wouldve been otherwise boring if anyone else was talking about them. His classes will leave you on cliffhangers over what happens next, even if you already know.
He is a really good professor and a really good lecturer. He says you do need the book, but I never really used it, everything that is on the exams is basically what he talks about in class. SO if you go to class and pay attention and take notes, you should be good. Overall he is a Great professor and is willing to help if you talk t o him.
No homework, no papers, no projects. Professor gives good interesting lectures, he gets his students involve in his lectures with make class fun. Take good notes, 3 exams are based on his class lectures. If you take good notes & study you will get a good grade. He will take your best text score and use it as the 4th test grade to help you get an A
GO TO CLASS PASS. LISTEN TO HIS LECTURES & RECORD HIS LECTURES ON YOUR PHONE. CONTINUE TO LISTEN TO THEM, TAKE DOWN EXACTLY WORD FOR WORD EVERYTHING HE SAYS AND USE THAT TO ANSWER THE TEST REVIEWS HE GIVES YOU IN THE BEGINNING OF THE SEMESTER. He goes in order most of the time, but everything he says and everything on the review is on the test.
He is the best teacher ever, and you will definitely learn so much from him. He is worth taking, just show up and take notes from everything he says. Follow the study guide to help you take notes on his lectures, this will get you an A. AMAZING LECTURES.
Professor Alvarez is a good professor with great lectures. Be aware of the tests. I took him during the summer and it is intense with 50 questions. There are 4 test total but he drops the lowest grade. Also tests are in class with scantrons. RECORD, TAKE NOTES, READ THE CHAPTERS. Dont skip class you will miss a lot of information!
He is the best lecturer I have ever had. This is my senior year and I have never come across a professor with such excellent lecturing skills. He can make history engaging and interesting. You must come to class otherwise you will miss things that will be on the test. You must study for the exam from the reviews he gives. Take this class!
Show up to class. Take notes when he lectures. Everything that he talks about will be on the test. He is one of the greatest lecturers out there.
Great teacher, very understanding easy to contact via email. Class is kind of boring but does make some jokes rarely any visuals. tests are fairly easy. and a reminder KEEP YOUR SYLLABUS when given the first day, it contains your reviews !! you will not find it online.
This guy is amazing! He knows his history!! Go to class, take notes, do your study reviews and you WILL PASS! Absolutely no power points he is a true lecturer! Definitely take him!
I really enjoyed Dr. Alvarez's history class. He doesn't use PPT so if you're a visual learner, you may not like his lectures. Make sure you have your pen and paper out ready to take notes. DON'T lose your syllabus! Everything you need for the semester is there. 4 exams (including the final) he drops the lowest grade, 1 sig. assign., 1 extra credit
HIS CLASS IS LECTURE HEAVY, BUT AS LONG AS YOU SHOW UP TO CLASS ANC TAKE NOTES YOU SHOULD BE GOOD
mentions everything that will be on the exams but you only have the exams as grades. 4 exams so play your roll to pass
Professor Alvarez, is very knowledgeable, lectures are long, but he makes you enjoy history as much as he does. if you attend class, take good notes, do the study guide for each exam, which is attached to the syllabus, you will be successful in passing his class.
I absolutely loved professor Alvarez took him for world history 2 and you can tell he loves his job. Lecture heavy so you can't miss class or you'll miss like 50 years worth of history. He talks fast but if you take good notes you won't need the textbook. TAKE HIM, he's a great lecturer and is great at keeping his students attention!!!!!!!
He was really cool tbh. Really knows how to tell a story with his lectures:D
Dr. Alvarez's class was simple if you listen to his lectures and take good notes. Also, he offers 5 points extra credit to your 4th exam for doing discussions, this is beneficial since the discussions prepare you for exam. Graded by 4 exams, he drops the lowest score and the exams are not cumulative.
Rating him before the semester ends BC hes amazing & yall should know it too!! He provides study guides to the tests, uploads videos, & DB are easy. You wont regret taking him!!
I took his online class and it was supper flexible. He uploads the lessons every week for you to watch at your own pace, his lessons are interesting and supper helpful. He does not leave much work, he also provides study guides for the tests. The tests are easy. Overall he is a good professor I recommend him if you want to pass HIST 1306 easily!!
Professor Alvarez gives lot of lectures and videos that you have to watch, there are 4 exams that you have to do. And those exams are the only assignments, meaning you have to do very good in all. His lettering on his exams are very hard to understand
First of all we have to be honest. Proffesor Alvarez is a tough grader. Has high expections on tests. Needs to be more clear. Be prepared to read alot. Don't agree with his grading system tough grader not fair. Dont take him put alot of effort in class still not passed.
His course 1306 was not good nor bad. He only graded the 4 tests and the wording for the test was hard. Recommend keeping up with his lectures. Sadly, his lectures don't have subtitles so its hard to right down all information. Don't recommend buying the textbooks.
Has a lecture for every portion of class. Really nice and interactive. Keep up with discussions and watch all of his lectures.
2 discussions a week MAKE SURE YOU DO THEM! they can pile up. All exams MC super straight forward! great class
Great summer mini-mester class. Only graded on 3 tests. All test questions covered in lectures. Discussion questions on each chapter. Straightforward professor that contacts you back with answers to any question you have in a day or less. Just take notes & it's simple grading. Take him, you'll do great.
Dr. Alvazrez was really chill and nice. Super easy class, he does lecture videos instead of power points so you have to watch every video every week to know what's on the test. We had 3 tests (including the final) and that's it. Discussions are optional (not graded). Also, all his questions on the test are on Quizlet, super easy.
He has great lectures, take his course you won't regret it. No lockdown. Multiple choice exams. Learning a lot.
Professor Alvarez gives video lectures that are kinda lengthy but very easy to understand. I recommend taking notes and participate in the discussions which are extra credit because the test questions are usually the discussion questions. Make sure to detail all test questions. Only 4 tests and he drops one.
Took this course online, you'd think there would be a bit more assistance as to how he grades papers. There isn't. No grading rubric for anything, you have to guess what he wants on papers & hope that he doesn't deduct points for something that didn't fall on his imaginary rubric. Grades based on grammar, not aware this was a English class as well.
