He likes to act tough during the first weeks to weed out the slackers but once you get to know him you will see he is a funny and awesome teacher.

Professor Barros is one of the best teachers I ever had have is great and his class is super fun, everyone should take it.

Do the extra credit, internet ques, and above all, study hard! His tests aren't that easy - you have to read the chapters thoroughly and have a good understanding of everything. Luckily the tests get progressively easier, though.He made the class more enjoyable w/ his humor.I'd take him over Miggliacio any day.

He's a nice guy and a good teacher but it is really hard to get over his accent. He has an extremely strong accent and at times you can't make out what he's saying. Class was very hard. I studied my ass off for the tests and managed to get a B only by his good graces. tests were some of the hardest i've ever taken in College

Dr. Barros has alot of experience in the field, makes the subject matter funny and interesting and doesn't pile on massive ammounts of work. If you go to class, pay attention, study and read the book you'll get an A. The tests are a little chalenging, but you can also do an extra credit ocean field trip which is fun. I recommend him!

I took him 1st time failed, the 2nd time i passed with a B. He is a bit hard, but we are in college and recommended to actually STUDY lol. I recommend him if you really do Study, Do the Online Quizes, take notes, and read the chapters, and DONT MISS ANY EXTRA CREDITS he may give out that most definitely gives you an advantage.

Took his oceanography class. I came down with a really bad illness towards the end. I had been struggling a bit due to my own lack of self confidence, when I went to him for help he listened. In his class it's true. you have to earn your grade, and he makes you feel proud of that grade. I'm grateful I got to learn from him.

When I started this class I did not had any interest but when time pass by and I saw that this teacher was and expert in the subject I started with more interest and he is a tremendous teacher making jokes and time flyies in his class. This is the best teacher Ive had since Ive started school at Wolfson. Anyone who has done poorly in his class was not paying any attention. I got an A and didnt have to take the final. You even go snorkeling! What else can you ask for? Learn about the world and snorkel for an A? Anyday.

I just took OCE 1001 online virtual college with Dr. Barros. I got an A and I am not science whiz! Actually I was expecting more like a B. He's a very fair professor. In this course you take 4 exams. He drops the lowest exam grade and tells us to study for the first 3 exams because the last exam is extremely difficult. This class is not for lazy people. That being said it's a very simple class. If you attend claas, take notes,and do the online quizzes, and go on the field trip you should get an A. Excellent Professor! He is super easy! All you need to do is read and do the practice exams on the web(which are the same questions on your test). And you'll pass + he gives you a chance to improve your grade with an extra credit (that it's fun. Oh! and you get to watch some good movies. He's very passionate about ocean and it's very possible to get an "A". I got a "B" in his class but I was close to getting an "A". He gives 20 extra credit points if u attend the coral reef field trip in Key Largo and 5 extra points for a two page paper on a video he assigns. ESC1000 Reading all the comments I can only laugh. This professor may be pretty stingy when it comes to attendance and grading, but he offers PLENTY of extra-credit opportunities. I had a B in the class and after a field trip essay I received an A. He's not hard at all, and if I had actually studied I might not have had a B in the first place.

I have been inspired to learn more about the Ocean due to this class taught by Dr. Barros. He is passionate about his students being aware of our effects on the environment as well as he is concerned about you doing well in his class. At the end of the semester he takes his students on a Extra Credit Coral Reef Field trip. It doesnt get any better!

Once you get past the strong Cuban accent his class becomes a cake walk. Study his online quizzes thoroughly and skim through his power points and you're guaranteed a "C" or higher on his tests. I highly recommend it to anyone with huge procrastination issues and laziness, cause the studying is minimal and the work is optional (extra credit).

Oce 1001 online class appears intimidating lot of work. But not cause he drops 5 grades, 3 quizzes and 2 homeworks and he let you do 50 points of extra credit. I did the glass bottom boat trip easiest 50 points ever! Two proctored exams can be a hassle but most questions from online quizzes. I ended up with A and did not work hard. Recommended!

Rent the textbook or buy it online, you will need it to study. Take the online quizzes and make study guides out of them for each exam, guarantee you'll get an A. Dr. Barros takes role at the end of each class and WILL DROP YOU IF YOU CONSECUTIVELY MISS CLASSES. Do ALL of the extra credit. If you do all this it will be a breeze.

The questions on each exam are extremely detailed and long..but for the first exam he used 70% of the questions from the review he gave us in the 1st exam but only for the first one tho. He's a good guy, he curved our final grade at the end but if your not good at studying I wouldn't recommend this class. Do the extra credits, ESPECIALLY BOAT RIDE.

Overall great guy, very funny & very passionate about what he teaches. His tests are extremely difficult, if you are not the studious type don't bother taking this class. He offers extra credit such as one or two essays & a snorkeling trip. His webpage is the bible, 70% of test questions come from it, but still hard. He drops one grade.

I took ESC 1000 Geology with Dr. Barros got an A and I did not have to take the Final Exam cause he drops one grade. Very interesting class the movies and the lectures are cool. Mr. Barros was a great his class was very simple to understand and I really had fun learning about the ocean if you like learning about the ocean you should take this class.

I just took OCE 1001 online with prof. Barros and ended with 101% gpa. Some work but he was very helpful and patient while I visited his office many times seeking help with the homeworks and explanations of the material. I am surprised to read that he is rude. He was in the extra credit field trip explaining everything. I recommend this class

I took my first online class with Dr. Barros and it was a pleasure experience. He is amazing always willing to help you. He give you time for the quizzes and homework. He posted everything since the beginning of the class so you can go on your own pace. The field trip is super interesting he knows a lot. I hardly recommend this class. Just read.

Great teacher, not only does he genuinely care about the environment and actually knows about the topics he teaches, he does the best he can to inform students of the importance of environmental awareness, and to influence them to help the world become a better place. Everything that are on the exams has been mentioned in class discussion.

Mr Barros has great teaching ethic. I have to say, all these nasty comments about him were probably made by all the unapplied slackers. His class was the first elective I've taken that I actually looked forward to going to. If you're a responsible student, I HIGHLY recommend Oceaongraphy. Dr. Barros is very passionate about what he teaches. My advice is be present and study hard. It is not impossible if some effort is put on the student's part. My oceanography class was very informative, and for those who are good test takers, I would recommend taking him for this class. The extra credit snorkeling trip was also a blast!

All he demanded was to study. We all are supposed to do that right? I do believe his class was extremely interesting and because of that now I am more aware about natural disasters and its consequences. By far the greatest professor I have ever had the pleasure of having at MDC. He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what he does and this is reflected in his class. Professor Barros is great. I have taken both OCE1001 & geology with him and they were both my favorite classes ever taken. His tests are not hard. He gives you a study guide with most of the questions on the test and the EXACT answers. He is very fair and extra credit is fun (snorkeling for OCE). Even curves the tests and gives extra points.

He's a great professor, always an email away so no complaints. With that said, I don't recommend taking this course online. It's a lot of work: a quiz every Wed. and hw every Sun. The hw assignments are TOUGH and the quizzestests require a lot of reading to get a good grade. Two proctored cumulative exams too.

I took OCE 1001 online virtual college and it was not a walk on the park but not extremely difficult either! It appears a lot of work but he dropped four quizzes and 3 homework grades. At first he may seem intimidating because he is extremely strict with cellphones. Once you get past that, the man is one of the best professors I've come to know. His knowledge is vast and his passion for science is quite visible. He will be there for you after class or during office hours, definitely one of the few caring professors of MDC.

This professor is one of the coolest science teachers I've ever had the pleasure of taking. He works with the students and his main objective is their learning and development. Took Oceanography as an online course and it got rough, mainly the midterm, but the Professor is helpful and works to help his students succeed. The midterm requires lots of study because it is proctored; otherwise, the rest of the course is not so bad and the professor works with his students. Consider taking him and just be sure to communicate.

Great Professor that really cares about the students. He gives study for the 3 first exams but you can drop the final cumulative exam. I just got my progress report got an A based on his curve. Prof Barros has an accent but it's easy to understand. He is hilarious and uses his own life experiences to make his lectures more interesting. i took his 6 week summer class and we had 3 tests all open note and he drops the lowest grade. And there is a class field trip worth 25 extra credit points. if you fail your just lazy, simple as that.

Tony's one of the funniest best professors at MDC. In his summer course we took 3 exams for credits with the lowest dropped, each one had a very useful study guide. He employs a lot of movies in his class as visual tools apart from lecturing. He also offers a snorkeling trip as extra credit which was a lot of fun. Hilarious guy 11/10

He is an experienced professor, he genuinely loves his work and you can perceive that through his funny and informative lectures. He gave us two tests, lots of extra credit (reports on documentaries). He also curved the second test. However he gives all these benefits if he sees the class works hard, if you're lazy, FORGET IT.

our only grades were the exam that were super easy if you study the review. he gave extra credit opportunities for each exam that were supper easy so make sure you do them all it adds up !! book is not need you can study through his power point ! hes an awesome professor

He's awesome, he tells the best stories and has so much experience under his belt that it makes you question why he's a professor at Dade. His exams consist of the questions on the study guides that he passes out, so memorize those and read the chapters you will 100% pass. He doesn't take attendance, but show up for exams. No homework just tests.

This teacher was amazing, and not a tough grader. He makes you work for your grade but understands that not everyone is amazing in English. He gives out 3 essays, Mid-Terms and Finals are all through Pearson(which is only 10% of your grade) and the 3rd essay is a final group project that you will have to present.

Here's the deal: I never went to class, ended up going over the study guides and powerpoints which he posts online, and the entire study guide can be found online. Learn to be resourceful! He's a typical old Cuban man, however, his background and passion is very interesting. The class is fully based on four exams and an extra credit field trip.

FANTASTIC! Knowledgeable about his subject, clear grading criteria, gives two attempts on the chapter quizzes. Proctored midterm and final using Respondus, but if you do well on the quizzes you will be golden! No homework aside from the chapter quizzes. Professor Barros has his own way of teaching which is interesting because he tries to connect with you. After taking his class i would 100% retake his class, his grading is clear he grades by quizzes which you get 2 chances to take and a midterm and final both proctored with lockdown no camera needed. You wont regret taking his class!

He is a old cuban guy that teaches his class and that's it. You take weekly quizzes that are un-proctored and you take a midterm & final that is proctored but no camera. Yea he isnt the BEST teacher, may not be the KINDEST, but if you do your work and join the zoom meetings once a week you're good. NO HOMEWORK!

There was only a few quizzes/assignments due every week, Midterm was proctored and the Final was non-proctored. Organize yourself to get good grades in the quizzes/assignments & the non-proctored Final you will get a good grade. Professor does not offer extra credit. He is a good professor but if you do miss the midterm, it will be almost impossible for him to let you retake it and you will be guaranteed to fail. Every week you have an online quiz that consists of 25 questions due Sunday night. If you're aware of all the assignments and complete them, you'll be fine.

Professor Barros was very funny and gave us a lot of advice throughout the semester. He assigned a quiz per week, which was very manageable. We didn't have to have our cameras on, but if you do fail his midterm or final, it's nearly impossible to bounce back.
