Horrible teacher. A lot of kids like him and kiss his ass. He should be teaching Poly. Sci. not Economics. Class notes are easy, he writes everything down, then on tests he hits you with really hard questions that come from out of no where. Don't take him
I took various classes with him, he is a very good teacher. Tests are not easy but you will really learn economics with him.

he sux
One of the best professors I ever had. He really knows what his talking about. If you want to learn something valuable take this guy!!!
no Bullsh*T he is tough but the subject itself is tough. he knows the material very well and he teaches very well. if you go to class and study hard you should atleast get a B-. do your homework, study hard, pay attention and youll get a good grade. very good teacher.
I had him for two economic courses. He is really easy to understand and his tests aren't hard if you go to class and take notes.
worst teacher to take.......dont recommendend.

This is one great professor, he teaches w/ passion, explains things related to real life and is incredibly fair. I learned a lot in his class. A true pleasure.
one of the best professors i've ever had. in order to get a good grade you have to study hard and go to class, but you will learn so much. He doesn't just teach whats on the book; he relates everything to real life and that makes his lecture much more interesting. I highly recommend him.
The class is not hard but the professor has a big attitude problem, and always takes comments personal. Is grading scheme makes no sense, and the tests are really hard. Dont take any classes with him.
If you like hearing "war stories" for every topic discussed, then you'll like Mr. Lopez-Calleja's class. To those complaining about his tests, I disagree. If you actually study and participate in class, you'll find his tests are straightforward.
great teacher that knows the subject matter really well. he cracks a couple of jokes during class and drifts away from the subject at times to discuss interesting topics, making the class a little bit more entertaining as a result. Also, hes a big time liberal that hates bush with a passion.he mentions him in a negative light injustabout every class
HE is very unclear with his method of teaching and does not help the students. He only give students who he has had before or will debate with him about politics. Not very well trained in the Economics field.
Hmmmm.. he s ok. I wouldn t really recommend him
worst teacher in the world...failed me once i think he is about to do it again....unless you are a super genius do not take his class...material is unclear..test are horrible because they are way more advanced than the material....dont piss him off and ask him for help.
He is a good professor if you do your part, you can't miss a single day of class and have to read the subject, you also need to like the subject and have a good background on micro and macro, if not, dont even take him
This man knows what he is teaching. He has worked in corporate America, has extensive knowledge on many other subjects, and knows how to judge economic decisions. He is a FAIR tester, believe it. Many say he's hard, but everything on the test comes from the lecture, book, & practice quizzes. Great man to deal with, but don't piss him off!
This is one of the best courses I've taken in my college career. Lectures are very clear and precise. He's very passionate about the material and well informed. I received a 'B' in the course.
Very difficult and not helpful. Even if you try hard you may not pass. Not recommended.
The guy is a really nice person. As a teacher he is not..He gets there like 15min late, then takes 10min to get ready, and the lectures are extremely boring, the exams are easy if you really study on your own, is mostly memorization, because you won;t really learn much in this class. Don't take this elective, or him
A lot of people talk crap about him, but this is the truth: show up to class, take notes, review the book and quizzes on the book's website, and be honest/respectful with him. Once you are on his good side, he will be very lenient, but don't mistake that with weakness on his behalf. He knows what he's doing, and his grading is very generous.
Good teacher. 3 tests, no attendance. Tests were not too tough if you read the book. You can bring a 5x8 notecard to tests which makes them alot easier.

Don't know how you can fail this class. I'm a major slacker and I got a B+.He allows you to bring the formulas (actually anything you can fit on the index card)to the test.Spends too much time talking about his liberal views on politics. This is NOT A CLASS ABOUT POLITICS. Expressing my views did'nt hurt my grade though. The man does have integrity.

He is the adviser for the Econ major so eco people see him alot. He is weird then and in class. Makes you work for you grade so there is no slacking off.
Just took this guy hes a cool guy and is fair to his students gave us a bonus assignment and lets you use a 5x8 card for the test... I had to read the chapters and do the workbook to a certain point and do the online quizzes because he takes some questions straight from there... overall u have to study but u should be fine

Tough teacher. He makes it sound really hard in the beginning but curves tests a little and gives you a chance for extra credit. You really need to study and understand the subjects to pass the tests.
This professor is very hard. His test very hard too. He let you use a card with notes but the questions are so hard that you don't get it. You should choose someone else. He seems to be fun but the tests.... not good!!!
I absolutely loved this class!! Alot clearer that my first econ courses. Yes, the course is challenging, but the lectures are wonderful. He's clear and precise. If you do your work you can survive.
Classes are sort of fun but have very little relation to the exams, you can literarily eat the book, and not pass the exams, that's why he curves. NOT RECOMMENDED !!!
Horrible professor, he pretends that his class is really easy, but his He always gets late to class, and teaches 1/3 of the material that comes out in the exams.Don't take him, you won't learn much, and it will hurt you when taking 4000 level courses.
Discusses relevant material for about 1/3 of class then goes off on socialist rants about how horrible Bush is, then talks about how powerful China will be.Wish he would keep personal polital views out of class and focus on Economics.

He is very good explaining the material. I highly recomend him, one of the least professors woth to have a class with. He teaches very well, you will learn. If you pay attention to class and read the book you will do good in the class.
He was an incredible teacher. Everything he mentioned in class was relevant to the topics. He incites students to learn economics. If youe read, go to class and take online quizzes you will do great!!
The best economics professor I've had at FIU. He's tough but is an exceptional teacher. Take him only of you want to learn.
Awesome teacher. The material is hard, but he makes it interesting.
Good professor, very helpful
Horrible office hours, rude to students, makes mistakes on tests and refuses to admit it, doesn't teach, makes fun of you if you have a question. Never take him for an online class!
This is the best and most challenging online class I have encountered. The prof responds quickly and is very willing to help. If you follow the weekly assignments and keep on top of it you will be ok. The prof gives decent curves on exam. :)
Funny teacher
terrible, just terrible
This professor is horrible. Rude to students, hates to admit when he's made an error. Does not like to be asked questions. He is a horrible communicator. Will not recommend him for any class. His exams are super hard. He makes things harder than they need to be. I Hope he gets fired. Just a terrible professor. Nightmare class.
I cant agree with all previous reviews! I took class with professor last summer, and to me he seemed wonderful! When I couldnt attend the midterms because of my work, he let me take them on other days. Most of material was explained in class, but you also have to read book and do homework. EVERYTHING in tests was from lecture and book. I got A.
I had a very bad experience with this professor. He is actually very well respected in regular offline classes for being an excellent teacher, HOWEVER my PERSONAL experience taking him over an online class, was TERRIBLE! I got a good grade, but he seemed to me unfair in many ways. His quizzes had typos. I wish him the best though.
He’s an awesome teacher - the best teacher you can have if you take Economics at FIU. The material is straightforward and he gives you lots of material to study from. He’s willing to help at any time and responds real quickly to questions. You need to work a lot so don’t take this course if you have a heavy load. Overall a fun class!
Calleja is a great teacher! He really knows his stuff and tries to engage the class in current economic topics. His class isn't the easiest, but it's not horrible either. If you do all your work and study, you should get by with a B - I did. He actually makes economics VERY interesting, I loved his class.
Don't really know what I got from this class other than hearing how great the professor is at memorizing where everyone sat the previous week. Miss a class and its pretty hard to catch up, but he does repeat himself a lot
I'm a business major and I got alot from his class. Learned much more than my macro class. He really teaches and cares about us. I plan to take him again for applied macro.
Great econ teacher, knows material and how to explain it very well. Gives nice lectures. Seems tough on the outside, but real friendly & helpful. The ideal teacher for any economics class (which we all know they are mostly hard).
easy professor for a hard class. exams are straight forward. get to use 1 index card with notes. write small and put everything in there from the chapters
This class requires 100% of your time. The material is very difficult, he is very willing to help, however you must read the chapters backwards and forwards at least twice once you're in the bulk of the material in order to grasp it.
Exams are not easy, so study, but he does curve. Very passionate, so go to all his lectures. Also very strong personality - you will either love or hate him. Buy the book, b/c gives HW every week and (25% of grade) and you'll need it to study for the exams. And don't ever EVER say what he's teaching is irrelevant or he'll make u cry in class
A great professor. Why is he not ranked higher? He's concerned with his student's success and his lectures are extremely clear. Pay attention in class, study hard from the text, and you'll do well.
Definitely do NOT take him online. He will not allow anyone to see their results on quizzes or exams. Basically, you have to take whatever percentage you receive without any questions asked. He will not allow you to see what you got wrong nor make an appointment to see them. No feedback!! Everyone is struggling in this online class.
Do NOT take him online. He will not allow anyone to see their results on quizzes or exams. Basically, you have to take whatever percentage you receive without any questions asked. He will not allow you to see what you got wrong nor make an appointment to see them. No feedback!!
Material is difficult, but he is fair and generally curves the exams. I took it online and would have liked to seen what I missed on weekly quizzes, but he has a thing about showing graded quizzes online. I think he figures it might help someone to cheat?
Do not take this professor. Weekly quizzes from one chapter. Even if you read the chapter the quizzes are hard and the 3 Exams are even harder. Not very helpful. You cannot review quizzes to see what you did wrong. Fully online class.Prefers to curve than help you learn the material.
Not a bad person, but he doesn't let students see the quizzes after they are graded, so you don't really know what you did wrong to study for the exams. The material is not very easy to understand, and you need to read a lot. You need to do the learning on your own. I do not recommend to take this class online, at least not with this professor.
do not take him online
This class is hard, specially if you dont like economics like me. I took it online and I had to study a lot. His quizzes and exams were hard and you dont have a lot of time to do them. There are 2 long assignments that you need to do and you have a week to do them. I dont recommend him. He is very strict and you have to go to an orientation.
Good professor, even better professional; teaches online only, mandatory attendance to an extra-official class orientation, drops u if u don't attend; doesn't use online reminder tools, exams are ok, nice person, but don't piss him off cause u'll get it for sure! A- professor.
Best professor I have ever had. He really helps you learn if you help yourself. If you do not go to class and expect to pass, well good luck.
He is dedicated but tough. I took him online and he will not let you see your quizzes or Exams in full, only the grade. I felt that even when I read all of the material, the exams were hard. He is determined to stop people from cheating even when there are some of us that don't. He curves the exams though. I still would not recommend him.
This is by far the hardest class I've ever taken. DO NOT take this class online. He is more concerned with preventing cheating than helping students. Reading the chapters twice, going through the workbook and powerpoint slides is NOT enough to pass this class. Can't see any of your quizzes, exams or assignments to learn from. Extremely Hard Class!
HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PRESIDENT OF THE US RATHER THAN JUST A COLLEGE PROF! MOST OF THE TIMES HE GOES OFF TRACK TEACHING, BUT AT LEAST YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO PICK UP JUST ABOUT SOMETHING HE EXPLAINS EACH CLASS. CURVES EXAMS , AND GIVES EXTRA CREDIT AT THE END, BUT HIS EXAMS ARE VERY HARD. READING THE BOOK IS NOT ENOUGH, MUST ATTEND HIS LECTURES!!
He's a great professor. He gives detailed lectures and is very clear. Answers questions in class and is very nice. One of the best profs I've had FIU. However, you need to study and attend class.
Took online and material is hard! Weekly quizzes, 3 papers, 3 exams which you have to study for ALOT. HOWEVER, if you ask a question, he ALWAYS responds with an example. You only have 1 day & a 3 hour window to take quizzes/exams. He's not bad but but you DO have to study ALOT.
Disregard all negative posts; he IS a great prof. He explains everything in detail in class so when you go to study the text you already know what to focus on and can cut out the crap. Tries to make class fun by applying economic concepts to current issues and is very sarcastic and witty. Curves all exams. If you fail his in-person it's your fault!
Probably the hardest online class I've ever taken. Even if you use the text book as a reference while taking his quizzes and tests...you still wonder where he got his questions from because they are nowhere to be found! Got a C.
He is the rudest professor that I have ever taken. He clearly lacks interest if students pass his class. There were many students in my online class that complained about him. He makes the class more difficult than it should be, his exams are super hard, he only curves by like 5-6 points. This stupid son of a ****.
This guy class is meant for you to fail. Test are extremly hard. Yes he does curve because everyone does so poor. I do not reccomend watsoever. Also, alot of material for no reason. If you want an F and hurt your G.P.A This is your man.
Prof. Lopez Calleja is one of the best online profs at FIU. He's incredible at responding to questions and emails. His syllabus and instructions are very clear and he posts revuew materials. Got to study hard and keep up every week. He gives access to weekly quizzes so you can see where you went wrong. Very flexible. Great online class!
THE WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD! not only is he extremely cocky and obnoctious but he is plain useless. He goes to class and reads the slides from the book's website and then gives you a cut throught exam. He'll say 100 times that he spent 20 years in the corporate world he should have stayed there because as a teacher he sucks! I learned nothing
Please save yourself a lot of trouble and DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I've never tried so hard for a class and ended up with a C. He just reads the powerpoints that come straight from our book and then his tests are unbelievably hard.
this class is tough, but he is a fabulous econ prof. he really knows his stuff and does lots of complex problems in class. prof calleja teaches you to think like an economist. take the class if you want to learn. you'll want to be an economist after to take him.
Very unaccomodating to students' needs. Exams are extremely difficult and very long. Does not allow you to view what questions you got wrong on exams. He's cocky on top of everything else. Do yourself a favor and take this with someone else
great prof. You can tell he loves his work and responds to online questions every day! he lets you look at your quiz results and curves exams - so you have a chance. I learned a lot! but, the class is not easy... you got to work. excellent teacher.
I don't understand why so many people are whining. The tests are hard but he curves. I took his class online and he was very responsive. I've always gotten A's in my classes but I have walked out of some not knowing anymore than when I walked in (or logged on). At least I learned something and you have to hand it to him - he knows his stuff.
prof calleja teaches his class with passion and enthusiasm for economics. his lectures are engaging - he?s interesting, intelligent and quite humorous. prof really knows his stuff, explains theory in an understandable way and gives many practical applications. i had to work quite a bit for my grade, but it was definitely worth it. nice guy!
I've had him for two classes and he is a wonderful teacher. hard but if he sees you do the work and pay attention in class will help you a lot. again, great professor. he knows his stuff and makes the class interesting
Very challenging class, but professor takes a real interest in the subject. Interesting lectures and helpful but only if you put in the extra effort.
Engaging, funny and best professor I have had in a long time. Many warned that his class was hard. He is a demanding professor, but one that definetely rewards dedication and hard work. He made this otherwise boring and complicated subject onto an interesting and fun learning experience. If you want to learn something, take his class.
DO NOT TAKE !!! PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM HIM..NOT EVEN ONLINE
awesome professor...had him for four other eco classes...he is challeging but you learned!!!! just study with time, apply the material, and understand the concepts. GREAT CLASS!!!!!
first at all the class is very hard but you will learn a lot. The professor is very cooperative with the students, he really knows what he is teaching. You will have to study A LOT! 8 hours a day! and thats not enough!
Took this course online during Fall 2008. The class isn't easy. Requires lots of reading and practicing. If you aren't good in eco, you might want to take this in person instead. Prof can be rude, but will help you if you have any questions. 3 Exams, 11 quizzes, and 2 written assignments (not easy). He drops the 2 lowest quiz scores.
great professor. you learn the material. keep track of the notes. do not miss class. great class. :)
He is bad...he talks more about himself and his experience than what he teaches ok...if you want to pass do not take him at all
First, don't take this class online unless you don't work full time or can dedicate many hours to it consistantly, very challenging! Second, prof knows his stuff but is very demanding (and sometimes arrogant), you will work your butt off for a B! Quizzes are out of 15 so 2 wrong gets you a B. Seriously, lots of time is needed for this prof.
Well Where to start, I hope he is reading this,Worst Professor Ive taken since being in school. Over Loaded material for an online class, thinks everyone wants to become an economist with all the material he gives you. Unless you don't have a life MAYBE you will do well, there are profs 100 times better if you can hold off to take it with someone e
took it online but still couldnt stand his emails. yes he did answer them as soon as u sent them but only to make you feel stupid. he made errors written some questions for the quizes, sent him a scanned section of the book were the answer he replied well there was a best answer for this. do not take not even if you are good in econ.
Do not take him online! I'd say about 30% of all questions asked across assignments you can't find in the book, he expects you to understand everything he does and then gets annoyed when you ask questions. This guy makes this class more complicated and drier than it is already. Unless you don't care about your GPA, DO NOT TAKE ONLINE!!!!!!!!
Funny guy, hates business majors but loves economics majors. Intensive math, expects a lot of calculus even though it's explicitly required. Difficult tests, lots of homework that needs to be switch to an online form.
One of my favorite professors. Economics has never been more clear or interesting throughout my education. A lot of studying time required, but tests don't cover an intense amount of material. The professor discusses real-life economics issues, which allows you to apply what you learn in class to what you hear in the real world. Highly recommended.
I think the professor himself wrote the third response down because nobody in their right mind would write those comments. The online class is way too intense and complicated if you have a job, take multiple classes, and have a life. Even if you have none of the above don't take this guy online. BRUTAL!He'll probably get off on that comment too!
what a bunch of whiners! this class was excellent. tests are challenging but doable if you study. he also curves. he answers emails and posting every day, unlike others. he's very helpful if you ask. if you're looking for an easy grade and a piece of paper don't take him. if you want to learn then he's the man. learned lots.
Took the Course Online. It was very difficult and requires alot of your time. If you are going to take this online, be prepared to work. Ended with a B- .
Those talking good about him are on CRACK, this professor is awful, rude, and teaches you things that only Economic majors are in need off. Swear he doesnt like this website SO I HOPE YOUR READING THIS, Like the guy below said I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM IF THEY PAID ME TOO, Just weight it out and compare the good comments left to the bad.
this prof doesn't give grades away, but you learn. he'll help you as long as you work hard. he really cares about students and curves exams. responds to online questions everyday and gives really nice explanations. i've taken online classes for two years and this is one of the best i've seen. you won't enjoy if your a slacker. I luv it!
He is the best professor ever. I have taken three courses with him. His lectures are very helpful and he cares about his students. Show up to class and study with ahead of time. The tests are not hard, and he lets you use a card so you can write the formulas and graphs you need. He rocks!!!!
I must be honest, this is the worst class I have ever taken in all my years of going to college. I took the online version of this class and it was a big mistake. The tests are way harder than they need to be. In addition, he focuses on questions that seem to be directed to trivial details instead of focusing on core concepts. I do not recommend it
With regards to the online class, please note that even though the class is taught online, this professor forces students to take the exams on the weekends (online), he makes some exceptions for quizzes, but the three exams must be taken on Sunday evenings. This info needs to be disclosed on the course description page, but its not.
he's one of the best profs in the econ dept. gives detailed lectures, explains theory and does lots of problems. wish some of the other profs were like him. he's very helpful and glad to explain when you don't understand. i highly recommend him if you want to learn something.
He is awesome! Idk about those saying he is the worst prof. in their lives. He knows what he is talking about, he is funny and he makes the class interesting. He talks and teaches reality! If you want to learn this is your professor. I've had one exam so far and it was not easy but if you read all the notes and the ppt you are good! I recommend him
Very good professor. I am taking my second class with him this semester. If you want to learn about Economics, I suggest you take a class with Lopez-Calleja. His Micro class is not easy and you have to do lots of homework. His Money & Banking class is easier in my opinion. Solid teacher. He does like to talk about himself, but he know Economics.
He teaches an online course and has mandatory orientation! With no advance notice this is bogus. He is rude in his responses and just completely useless. He needs to learn to put the mandatory orientation in the prerequisites. Someone teach him to be proactive please!
The BEST econ professor I've had here at FIU. He's not the easiest, but you actually learn, think and are enriched by this class. Read the text, attend lecture and do problems in the study guide. His exams are ok and relate to the course material. His classes are current and very interesting. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I don't know what some other commentors were smoking, but this professor is excellent! I hated economics prior to his class, but after the first day, couldn't wait to come to the next lecture. Fantastic professor! Read the book, use the study guide, use his e-mailed material, and you will do fine. You have to work! Again, excellent professor!
Yes, his course is difficult but you actually learn. His syllabus is straighforward and I can actually say I learned something in this class. BTW, I earned a C+ so it tells you how though it was WITH the curves
Do not take this class online. Maybe he is a better teacher in the classroom. He seems to want his students to fail. I hope I never encounter another professor like him. Doesn't allow students to review exams. Questions on exam are trivial and not concept.
Got an A-, but it took work. Prof gives weekly quizzes, 3 tests, some written assignments. The class is interesting and I enjoyed it. If you want the easy way out, dont' take it, but if you want to learn and get something that you?ll be able to use, this is it! Prof is responsive and posts lots of info. Highly recommend! Not for slackers!
Horrible teacher. He sits and talks about politics and asks what you think, then proceeds to try his hardest to make you feels and look like an idiot. If you prove him wrong, he gets pissed. He's like a child. Tests are ridiculously hard. Don't ruin your GPA. Stay away, if you're taking more than 1 other class. It'll feel like you're taking 18.
Absolutely amazing! One of the best econ profs at FIU. Very passionate about his subject and he actually teaches you something. He knows what he?s talking about and talks about both theory and current issues. The material isn?t easy, but he organizes it in a way that?s understandable and makes sense. Definitely recommend him for any class!
This guy is an idiot! Online class, 1 quiz a week, 3 exams (2 on Sunday night, 1 on Wed night, only a 2-hour window to take the exams), face to face final at the end of semester. Everything is WAY HARDER than it should be and the class is NOT designed to make students pass. Does not care at all about students. I passed but...AVOID LIKE PLAGUE!!!
This guy is very arrogant. He never took methodology classes. Everything with him is complicated. He is also too concerned about cheating perhaps because he is a cheater. He needs to understand that although he is the professor, he should be on the student side not against. Not a good professor, and worst, not a good person. What a shame!!!
i've taken many online courses, but this was one of my favorites. prof is helpful and responds quickly to questions. the class is well organized and clear. the material is not easy, but what do you expect at a university? i got an A and i recommend this prof. he gives curves on exams and is approachable. class is not for layabouts and loafers.
This class in not a cake walk and neither is he. Be prepared to study hard on the exams. He will offer extra credit at the end of the semester. In spite of the difficulty of the class he's probably the best professor I've ever had. He cares about teaching you practical things that tie into the material. A definite MUST if you are a Econ major/minor
Do not take this professor for this class, instead I recommend Professor Galin Torodov he is equally as smart as this Lopez guy BUT he does not fail students. Lopez wants to teach his classes as if we are Economists and there is aLOT of work, regardless of the time be patient and take a different professor.
Do not take with this prof. he is not willing to work with students, he makes tests open for a window of 2 hours for one day only no flexibility whatsoever, I am pretty sure he doesnt care if you pass or not. I should have listened in orientation and dropped this course! he makes this course 10x more confusing than it has to be.
Never take this class online. His goal is to make this class impossible to pass.0 help! After you take the exams you'll never see the questions again!!!! So you'll never know what questions you got right or wrong. There is no flexibility!!! Avoid this Prof.!!!
if you are considering taking this class online because you work full time or have a family, dont even consider this as an option; you will be teaching ourself a considerable hard topic, and will need at least 20 hours a week to read and work on some excercises in a workbook.
Most amazing professor ever! He?s the epitome of what professors should be like. Lectures are so clear and he explains the reasoning behind it. He?s amazingly organized and well prepared, and really knows his stuff. On top of it all, he?s always willing to answer questions after class and very approachable. He?s great!
This teacher is excellent. he makes a somewhat difficult subject easy to understand by sticking to the basics. take him if you can. and if you're worried about his ratings like I was before I took the class, notice how most of his disgruntled students were students that took the course online. face to face students have nothing to worry about.
He is an amazing professor. He expects alot from his students. He gives you review materials, and allows you a note card on exams. If you work hard you can earn an A or B. It's important to go to his lectures and read book & study guide. His lectures are excellent and very current. There's few professors as well prepared for class as this guy.
If you are planning on taking this class online, do not do it with this professor. Like many of the other comments. The professor doesn't care about the students, his only purpose is to fail you. I read all the chapters thoroughly, do the reviews and the emails that he sends us and i'm barely passing the class.
DO NOT Take it online. It is very difficult, you will be teaching yourself. The class online is designed for you to fail. He may be ok in lecture, definately not Online. is like paying more for the online class, paying for the book and having to teach yourself.
don't take it online. He makes it super difficult and barely helps. He may be a good professor in person but not online. I'm not sure I will pass. Many students have done everything he has told us to help prepare for exams and tests but still fail or barely get a 76. VERY DIFFICULT.
He is not involved in what we should learn. He does not follow the syllabus, which probably explains why he does not see us in person. He makes all the quizzes and exams base on just random questions from advance topics. He thinks that we are economist. Does not study the chapters in order he can jump from ch 1 to 15 than 2 on in 3 weeks.
An amazing teacher, very helpful. Classes are fantastic. Material is not easy, but explains a lot. He actually writes notes on the board. I did well b/c I read the text and studied the notes. The professor is very knowledgeable and it shows in class. He lets you bring a note card to the exam and gives a decent curve on tests. Highly recomme
This prof know his stuff. I learned lots in his class. Yes applied macro is not easy at first. but if you read his notes and the chapters more twice it really helps. I did average on first test and earned a B in the course. :) also do exercises in the study guide. class is great! highly recommend this prof! :)
Shoots down students when they try to ask questions. Doesn't take anybodies ideas into account. Narrow minded and overall the worst professor I have ever encountered. Money thrown away while taking his class.
The class is not an easy subject, but the professor is clear and very objective. He has great organization and his lectures are actually interesting. He is strict but fair.
great prof. one of the best classes i've taken at fiu. this prof really knows his stuff and communicates well. the class is very practical and prof provides good examples. he's very fair an curves exams. you do have to study and take notes. i highly recommend this class to business majors and others wanting to learn economics. :)
prof. lopez calleja is a great teacher. lectures are well organized and thorough. you’ll actually understand what he says. tests are reasonable. he’s brilliant and knows the subject inside out. formula card allowed on exams. curves are fair. you will learn and enjoy this class and it will prepare you for econometrics. prof was great!
Excellent professor. He definitively knows what he is talking about. Often goes off topic and talks a lot about politics but his topics and discussions are very interesting and relevant. Read the book and do the practice questions on the book;s website. The book is pretty easy to read and packs a lot of useful content.
very nice teacher
This teacher is so nice!!! He talks about what's happening in the world which makes him interesting! He's very clear and funny! However, study hard for the test, they are not easy, but remember it's Economics!!
Excellent Professor and great class. He is very supportive for the students. I highly recommend taking his class. He is very knowledgeable and wants the best for his students. Take this class with Professor Calleja.
Prof.L-C is amazing so much clarity he wants you to pass. I RECOMEND HIM TO EVERYBODy
Teaches via PPT slides AND writes on the board, so it's hard to keep-up, especially if you're serious about note-taking. Tests are harder than avg, and he gives hmwk on subjects he hasn't taught yet. I knew my 3 test grades throughout the course, and still couldn't predict final grade due to his sway bw giving curves or not. Just not my style.
Prof. Calleja is an awesome professor!! His lectures are very understandable and clearing. He is very helpful and makes the class very interesting. He is very knowledgeable and his tests are fair but challenging. He is very caring and dedicated. Would definitely take him again. Very inspirational.
Horrible class. I don't recommend to take this class with this professor. He is very unwilling to help you out. You're basically teaching yourself. Only 3 exams that were the worst exams of my life.
Great prof. Very knowlegeable and was online every day answering questions. Very responsive and helpful. One of the exams was tough but he gave a nice curve. The only problem is that its tough to cover the material in six weeks. Other than that i learned alot. He's really fair. I would recomend this prof.
I had this Prof for three classes. Wish I could take more. He's a little intense but explains everything. Doesn't mind answering questions or staying after class to help. tests can be challenging but allows a formula sheet. I earned a B+ with reasonable amount of work. Homework is a must and helps to prepare fort tests. Fantastic. Recommend.
AMAZING
Great Professor!! This has been my favorite class I've ever had in FIU as far as having so much real world information and lessons! He is very passionate about his opinions and I defiantly agree with him 100%. Do the homework that he suggests it will help a lot on the exams, and go to class you will learn more then any book can teach you.
Can be boring sometimes, but he really knows his stuff. He is willing to help you if you need him. His topics are really interesting and he does a great job relating the material to real life. Would definitely recommend him but don't expect an A without putting any work.
Do not take online. Worst class I've ever had. Spending full time hours for one class like its 5 classes... Tests look easy but are confusing and trival.. The concepts that I learned from reading the book and teaching myself seem like they don't match up with the tests which is all of your grade. Extremly disappointed.
Whatever you do DO NOT take this professor for this course online. It's basically a self taught course & economics isnt an easy subject nor is it interesting in my opinion. I have him for summer A & although the course isnt finished im so disappointed in this professor i had to write my review now. RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!
*Responds back to students like we're not supposed to ask him questions. *Doesnt respond in a timely manner *Exams are through ProctorU *Told us we couldnt use notes when in actuality you can on proctorU *Exams are extremely tiresome and long (88questions on 1st exam, 1 of the chpts he said to study wasnt on exam) *Overall jerk!!
This course is challenging but doable. Prof responds to questions daily and is helpful. Gives really nice curves on exams. Lots of quizzes which are great practice for tests. Overall prof is fair and very responsive. Recommend.
Calleja is an excellent online professor. He keeps you interested and engaged. Gives lots of quizzes and three exams. Gives generous curves on tests. Very responive to questions. Would take again.
Taking econ online is not easy, but Professor Lopez is very helpful and responds every day. Gives recommended problems and exercises, and access to lecture powerpoints. Gives weekly quizzes. Tests aren't easy, but if you study hard then you can get a good grade. I got a B+ in the course. He gives curves and is a fair grader. Recommend.
I've taken him for ECO 2023 online during summer A, WORST DECISION EVER. He doesn't teach anything, he makes you read the book and thats it. No homework, no prep no guidance except telling you to read the text book. No structure in his online class. WITH HIM YOU HAVE TO 100% TEACH YOURSELF. Might as well CLEP this class if you teach yourself!
I took this class online over the summer and this class was TERRIBLE. Proctored exams, he teaches you nothing he just provides you with vague slides, and does not communicate with his students. Do not take this class
Prof. Calleja is accessible and responds quickly to questions. Read the book and lecture Powerpoints to pass exams. There are weekly quizzes and four exams. The course isn't easy but its doable. I put in lots of time and earned an A-. One good thing is that he gives a study guide for each chapter and curves each of the exams. Recommend.
This prof gives plenty of study materials for his online course. Always responded to my questions quickly and thoroughly. Read the text, study the recommended homework and the powerpoints. Plenty of grading opportunities. He gives weekly quizzes and four exams. He gives generous curves on tests. The chapter study guides helped on tests. Nice.
Prof Lopez was excellent. He was very helpful and provided a lot of valuable information in his syllabus. Make sure to read the book and do the problems in the study guide he gives for each chapter. This helped me a lot on quizzes and exams. He answered all my questions promptly and with great detail. For an online course, its a good one.
Paid an extra $90 to teach myself. His exams are proctored ($20 per exam). I dropped this class before the DR grade due date. His exams are nothing like whats in the book which is the only resource you have besides his terrible ppt's. He curves but I wouldnt risk it. Avoid this class at all cost. Im retaking it with Prof Bergan and i have no issues
I took him last semester online. Like other online courses its a little tougher, but he has lots of grading opportunities. He gives weekly quizzes, three exams and a final. A study guide is provided for each chapter. Hes really nice and willing to work with you. Responds quickly to email. This class is not an easy A, but doable. Nice prof!
Excellent professor! I took Lopez-Calleja a while ago. He is astute in his field of teaching Economics. I highly recommend you get to take his class because you will definitely leave the course with a knowledge.
One of the best online profs at FIU. Hes was very responsive to all my email messages and postings. He is very caring about his students and gives lots of grading opportunities. Read the book, review the powerpoints and do the study guide questions and your fine. I would definitely take him again.
I took the class during fall 16 and it was a great decision. Theres lots of reading, and he gives lecture powerpoints and study materials for each chapter. Theres a quiz for each chapter and 3-4 exams. This prof answers questions quickly and very responsive compared to other online courses. Everything is clear and hes very nice & caring. :)
Prof L-C is a star. His lectures are actually interesting and useful, and hes not arrogant. He tries to reach everyone regardless of your background. Hes very dedicated, thorough, and gives lots of review materials for exams. If you go to class, review class notes and do homework, you should pass with a decent grade. Loved his class.
He makes it very clear what he is going to test you on and when everything is due. He responds really fast to messages, which is great for an online course. The tests aren't super easy, but not super hard either. Just make sure you read the book and utilize all the resources he gives you.
Prof. Calleja is THE BEST prof you could hope to get for in any econ course. He explains everything so everyone understands. Gives 4 exams and many quizzes. Gives a study guide for each chapter - it helps with quizzes & exams. He's always accessible and responds quickly. He curves exams and is very flexible and fair with us.
Very difficult professor. 2 Tests 60q each 2h to complete and HM on Cengage which takes 5 h to finish and is very difficult. Get help. NO reviews for the test. This course is extremely difficult. Students take this course 2-3 times just to pass. I passed, but beware, you wont learn anything, homework has nothing to do with the test.
Any sort of math is very difficult for me, but this professor strictly teaches from a power point. ALOT of online homework which will be worth about 15-20% of class grade. Failed first time (along with plenty of other students) and second time around with him i noticed same problems. 3 test no quizzes. Be ready to self teach. Finished with a B
Prof. Calleja is a dedicated and passionate teacher. He uses the book, gives detailed explanations in class and does sample problems. He also sends study notes with solved problems, which I used in studying for the tests. He also allows you to bring a note card and formula sheet to the test. I earned a B+ in the class. He's the best prof!
This professor does not engage with the class at all. Most of the students taking the same course as myself with this professor failed or dropped the course because he only prepares you through power points & the 3 test he gives barely have adequate information from the notes given. He also did not answer my emailed questions or comments. DONT TAKE
Decent professor, but hard course structure. Told the class there would be extra credit, but changed his mind on the second to last class. Participation definitely counts. Attendance counts. Expect him to arrive 5-10 minutes late each class. Expect to teach yourself *all* of the material and listen to his tangents.
This class was great and very clear. Everything needed is shown in the syllabus. Read the book and do each of the chapter study guides he gives you the questions and answers. The course is challenging but the math is not hard mostly slopes and straight lines, which are easy. Prof responded to my questions on the same day. Recommend class.
Great professor. Lectures were organized and interesting. Prof. Lopez is very knowledgeable and brought lots of interesting perspectives to class. He explained complex topics in a way that I could understand and used lots of real-world data in class. Connect homework helped me to prepare for exams. Tests were reasonable. I loved the class.
Overall great professor and class. He covers the theoretical stuff and gives practical insights. Attend lectures b/c he takes random attendance. Take good notes and read the book, and you should pass with at least a B. Homework counts. Tests can be challenging but reasonable no questions out of nowhere. One of the best econ classes at FIU.
I Econometrics is a tough course no matter who you take.(3-4 test mc and fill in and homework) Calleja will try to simplify it as much as possible. Attendance is mandatory to both learn the material and for attendance. Calleja will put that into consideration at the end. He's very knowledgable but he is understanding and will help where he can
Prof. Lopez is by far one of the best teachers I've had at FIU. I took him for Measurement and Econometrics. This class is difficult, but he makes things clear and works hard to make you understand the material. Grades base on hw, two midterms and final exam. Coming to class is essential since he translates the dry material for you. Awesome!
Lopez is an amazing professor who cares about his students. Hes passionate for economics and it shows in his lectures. Prof is very knowledgeable and breaks down the material in a clear way. Hes approachable and is around after class to answer questions. He challenges you to think and is very fair when it comes to grading he curves exams. Great
Lopez-Calleja is a fantastic lecturer. Econometrics is tough, but if you go to lecture he explains everything in detail. He uses the text with lecture notes and gives hw. Tests are challenging but not impossible very fair grader. Ive took him for Measurements, Money & Banking and Econometrics. Very passionate about econ. Loved his classes.
Lopez is the best econ professor I've ever had. He treats you with respect and is passionate about what he's teaching. Lectures are organized, and he explains everything in detail. Hes very accessible and easy to talk to. Ive taken two other econ courses with him and they were great. Definitely take anything he teaches!
You can't see what you did wrong after the exams. No flexibility on exam schedule even though it was an online class. 3 tests weighted 84% of your grade, the rest 16% quizzes
It was an incredible online class. The prof was very responsive and answered my questions on the same day. There were three exams and weekly quizzes. He curved all three exams and was very fair grading. The prof also provided a study guide for each chapter which helped a lot on the exams. Also allows a formula sheet for exams. Great class.
It was difficult to keep up and you couldn't review your incorrect answers on past test which made it difficult to do better on. I took this course online and if you don't know a lot about this subject DON'T take it online over the summer. I think it could have been possible to do better during the semester still hard.
His class is very organized and it's all laid out on the syllabus. He's a fun and passionate guy who really knows Econ and prepares you for the exams as long as you do the work. He is very understanding and wants his students to succeed, so ask him for help if you need. His class is not as hard as it appears, do the work, and you'll actually learn
dont take this professor. is very rude and good luck trying to see your overall grade, he wont tell you until the end of the semester. he doesnt care at all about his students and is very hard to reach. if youre not very disciplined or good at economics i repeat DONT take this professor. Do yourself a favor.
Excellent class. It is clearly laid out - just follow the weekly assignments and quizzes. Theres 4 exams and he lets you use a note card on each one. Chapter study guides that review the book material is great prep for exams. Hes extremely reasonable and gives you plenty of chances to earn a good grade and responds to emails daily. Recommend
Took him online and he doesn't keep you updated on your grade. He gives exams with 80 questions and they are different from the chapter quizzes. Your grade is based on exams and quizzes and thats it. There is a quiz per week for each chapter. I don't recommend taking him online. He says he curves exams but he barely gives a curve.
Hes an awesome professor and nice. The grading is clearly laid out in the syllabus. He does weekly quizzes and four tests with curves. He gives a study guide for each chapter which I used for exams it helps a lot. He responds to online questions quickly and always is there for you. Gives a decent curve. A very doable class if you study.
This isnt an easy class. Ive had to put in lots of effort. This online course is well organized and easy to follow. He covers one chapter per week. Lopez is very flexible and cares about his students. He responds quickly to questions and is always there when you need him. Hes willing to help anyone who asks. Recommend.
This Professor is super rude and not understanding. He doesn't care about his students passing. He does not give lectures, you basically have to teach everything to yourself. There are weekly quizzes, 3 proctored tests, and 1 final. You can only take quizzes on the weekends and tests on Saturday. Definitely avoid taking this professor!
Lopez is a hilarious and truly exceptional teacher. He knows his stuff and isnt afraid to share it with students. Lectures are interesting and never boring. He makes you think about topics you hadnt thought of before. Gives 3 exams and homework for each chapter. Take notes, read the book and pay attention. He curves exams. Great class!
Loved the class. Prof gives weekly quizzes but not much homework. This gave me time to read and enjoy the class. The topics are interesting and he gives a study guide for each chapter which helps a lot on the tests. He answers questions in-depth when you ask and responds quickly. Easy to get a B, and even an A if you work. Curves exams. Very Fair!
Took as a Senior in IT. This class was difficult and was the hardest of the term. The tests are challenging and require thorough understand of several dense chapters of calculations and concepts. For an introductory class for sophmores and freshman, it takes itself too seriously. The professor will send you multiple warnings not to cheat on tests.
Very intense class during Summer semester. The professor does not give out lectures or responds to your questions, his TA does. You have to teach yourself reading the book, search for videos Online, and try to get by during quizzes and Tests. Class consists of 16 quizzes and 3 Proctored Tests. Not an easy class.
Don't take this class in the summer, he really knows what he's talking about but he doesn't nearly prepare you enough for the exams.
HARD CLASS. 16 quizzes and 3 exams over the summer course. No lectures, this course is self taught and too hard. Don't take this class with this professor
Dude is very intense, material was hard with very little resources other than self-taught textbooks. The kicker is how tough the class is made. The homeworks take hours to complete and they're graded very intensely, similar to a written exam. The "short essay" is supposed to be 8-10 pages long. Intense expectations, limited resources. Don't take
Unnecessarily difficult class. A lot of information to process and memorize, with little indication of what will be on exams and quizzes. Exams are insanely long, eg. 80 questions, and don't follow the information in the text, eg. you gotta figure out how to derive one metric from data with no prior practice. No lectures in online course! Hard pass
Insane workload, very difficult to reach. Refuses to clarify exam material until night before. 16 Chapters of material, all self-taught. Really makes me question why I'm paying for classes and trying my hardest if the professor can't even be bothered to put out a lecture. Actually teaches in ECO 3223, take him for that. Nothing else if possible.
PLEASE! Dont take this professor. He is disorganized, his tests are full of errors, hes rude and inaccessible, and he Doesnt care to teach. If you like learning hes not the guy for you . He leaves all the professor work to his TA and collects paychecks
He doesnt teach. Doesnt care to teach. Doesnt care about his students. Did not grade a single assignment himself, his exams were full of inconsistencies and errors. Didnt even know the class was online until the end of the first week of school. Forces students to use honorlock yet refuses to record his lectures for his safety.
Even with COVID this class was very interesting. Gives frequent quizzes which forced me to do the homework along the way and helps you keep up. Gives three exams which were pretty fair and tied together all our topics. He responds to his online messages daily and is accessible. This is the third class Ive taken with this professor and hes great.
Prof. Calleja has been very flexible, especially during the pandemic. Theres lots of homework but he gave us review materials for the 2nd and 3rd exam, which helped a lot. The syllabus is clear and well organized and you cant go wrong if you do the hw. Gives two hours for each exam and curves. Its at least a B if you do the work. Great class
Lopez is awesome. Hes very caring, helpful and flexible. He communicates with students and responds the same day. I think he had a hard time adapting to remote learning, but he really tried. Your grade is based on weekly quizzes and four exams, and he gives a nice curve. He lets you use a note card on exams. Must take!
He is a fantastic instructor. The work is very reasonable - weekly quizzes and four exams. The assignments in the syllabus are clearly laid out. He responds very quickly to messages. Quizzes are not hard; you just have to read the book. His tests are not easy but doable, you will need to study for it. He curves and I ended up with a B+. Great!
This prof is a really good teacher. The material is slightly challenging but nothing extremely difficult. Gives weekly homework and quizzes, as well as 3 exams. Grading is quite generous and hes always willing to answer your questions. Allows use of note card on exams. Very accessible and flexible. Definitely a good class
Professor Lopez-Calleja is honestly a great teacher; don't listen to the other individuals rating him poorly. COVD has put a strain on teachers and has confused everyone. I had him for a fully online class that was supposed to be in person but he really teaches and cares for his students. The lectures are a must and so is work but he is knowledgeab
This professor instead of giving us a class about Economics, spends have of the class talking about his political preference and why the Florida government is so bad. Also, he is always saying how bad FIU Directors are. I am here to learn Economics, not about his personal opinion about everything.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! is grading scale is insane!!! does not help you, does not give you study guides, if you send him emails takes forever to answer!!! DO NOT TAKE HIM
Great prof. Hes a real gem, especially for online classes. Gives weekly homework assignments for each chapter, which prepare you for the exams. Gives 4 exams based on weekly homework/quiz. Hes a fair grader. Gave a really nice curve at the end. Surprisingly, my grade went from a C+ to a B at the end. Helpful and accessible. Excellent.
This was a really good online course. The course is straightforward and easy to follow. Aside from the weekly homework assignments, he gives 3 exams and a final. The hw helps you to prep for exams. The course was very straightforward, the prof responds quickly and is very accessible if you need help. I enjoyed the course and recommend him.
Good lectures
DO NOT take this class online!!! Do not listen to the good reviews I was fooled by them. You will regret it!! He doesn't teach, no lectures!! you are completely on your own. Grades based on 20% HW 80% exam, All exams honorlock and you have to pay for each exam you take, and he gives no exam review either. HW is a 50 question quiz each time.
I thought this professor was going to be great given the reviews here but boy was I wrong. His online class for Microeconomics was the worst. No lectures, no study guide, the grading criteria is ridiculous. Save yourself from this professor honestly, I don't understand how schools can hire someone who's not involved in their class whatsoever. AVOID
Don't do it! You have weekly 50 question quizzes and 4 exams with honorlock. Quizzes are 20% of the grade, exams are 80%. You are allowed to use one notecard on the exam. Don't bother emailing him, not helpful at all. You will either read the textbook and teach yourself or use quizlet and hope for the best.
Do not take this class he doesnt respond to emails really hard test and short time 4 exams with honorlock 80% of your grade no extra credit , he doesnt give you study guides no lecture nothing Avoid taking him I have to study morning and night so I could barely have a B- (80%) almost C dont ruin your GPA
Was the most unhelpful teacher Ive had yet. Test were everything and time was short 70 minutes for 50 questions! NO lectures! Unhelpful in emails.
Online textbook that has an unreasonable amount of topics, then the exams are only on a few of the topics but HE WON'T TELL YOU WHAT SPECIFIC TOPICS YOU ARE BEING TESTED ON BEFORE THE EXAM, EVEN IF YOU BEG. Doesn't let you look at the mistakes you made on the quizzes or exams and when it's an online class you need that as feedback.
No lectures, terrible textbook, and his exams are the hardest Ive ever taken in my entire life. He also hides the answers to quizzes and tests after you take them and the homework isnt helpful at all. IF HE IS THE ONLY PROFESSOR THEY OFFER FOR THE CLASS, CONSIDER SWITCHING YOUR MAJOR. This class caused me severe depression and anxiety too
Literally, one of the most straightforward online classes Ive taken at FIU. There are weekly chapter assignments and quizzes, and three exams that are very reasonable. Lopez is good at responding to your questions, if you ask. If you don't pass with at least a B, you must have not done anything during the course. Everything is clearly laid out.
Hands down one of the best online classes Ive taken. Crystal clear online course. There are no lectures, but prof provides lecture PowerPoints that are easy to understand. There are four exams and weekly chapter quizzes. That's the whole course. Exams are multiple choice and he allows a note card. Also gives nice curves on exams.
Excellent prof. Hes attentive and very hands on. Class is composed of weekly assignments and 4 exams. This online class is very flexible and theres plenty of time to finish assignments. He responds to his messages daily and really card about his students. Gives a nice curve at the end too. Truly amazing!
You learn on your own. The test often have mistakes so be on the look out. Give yourself plenty of time to study and prepare.
Lopez is a chill professor. very caring and accommodating. there are hw assignments for each chapter. tests are based on hw and very doable. his online course was the best choice I made. provides lecture ppts and videos. responds to questions quickly. three exams and no final. had to work a bit but the class was AMAZING. TAKE HIM.
Out of 100% of the total grade;80% worth are Exams and 20% HW and the homework is a 50 question quiz each time. No zoom lectures, there are ppts and they make the class understandable however, the exams are NOTHING like the ppts. He said he was going to curve our grade, I don't think he will. Don't bother doing the hw take pics of it &focus on exam
3 exams(no final; 75% of grade) on honorlock & 2hws per chapter(14 chapters in total, 25% of grade)& extra credit for attendance. Although the class was so long(3hrs&20min) b/c it was for the summer term, it was still interesting. He has his own notes and posts ppts from the book,go over both! His own notes are only given in class;very useful notes
- I honestly don't know how this professor has such good ratings because he did not meet up to the standards everyone on here is talking about. - were given a bunch of work with no sense of direction when it came to our questions NOT being answered. - the quizzes and homework are full of WRONG answers and the TA didn't even know they were the TA
Definitely avoid this class if you are looking for a flexible class. Exams are worth 80% of your grade and we only have one 3 hour time frame on Sundays to take it. He changed this half-way through the semester, one week before the exam and I work full time. His solution was having me come on campus but I live far away. AVOID if you are busy.
this is the worst professor i've ever had. it's literally impossible to pass the class unless you memorize all of the ins and outs of the textbook. He does not lecture, and only assigns one "homework" (aka quiz) per week and then uses honorlock for exams that are worth 80% of your grade. he does not care about his students.
I have no idea who would rate this Professor 5 stars. It almost feels like the Professor rated himself all the good reviews. I dont know one person in my class not struggling with this Professor. Im usually a straight A student and I have never gotten such low grades. Ever. Avoid him unless you want to have your GPA bombed.
He has some major self reflection to do. That's all. Avoid him.
Hard Tests worth 80% of your grade. Changed Syllabus mid-semester and expect people to take a test within a 3-hour window for an online class. This was due to him catching someone cheating and he punished the entire class and reported them to the school. Tests are taken under the honor lock system and you need to pay $5.00 for each test. DROP
Literally the worst Professor you could take. Ever. Im surprised hes still working, I cant even begin to dive into the cluster f of a teacher he is. Please if you can take any other class take it. If you HAVE to take micro and hes the only teacher, take it next semester. AVOID HIM at all cost
The amount of students that had to drop the class. If you don't want a DR on your transcript then don't take this class. FIU seriously needs to do some reconsideration with who they hire. Changing the syllabus midway through the course in unacceptable. Such an easy course, should not be this difficult.
Tests have errors. Does not want students to pass. Let's just say our most recent test average was a 56, and multiple students are dropping the class. Do what you will with that information
AVOID!!!!
All I have to say is to avoid this professor. The weekly homework are worth 20% of the grade, and the HONORLOCK exams are worth 80%. The exams are nothing like the homework questions and are really difficult. He doesn't provide any extra lecture or zoom sessions to help the students who are struggling.
I have been a straight A student for most of college, so this says a LOT. Jose doesn't reply to emails in a timely matter, marks right answers wrong, changes his syllabus/exam times/dates without prior notice, and the TA didn't even know they were the TA. He is a lazy, petty professor and gets irritated when he has to do literally anything. AVOID!!
I don't know how this teacher is in person, but all I can say is don't take his class online. It is a nightmare! He puts things on the test that are not even on the videos or the PowerPoints he provides. This class is just you reading the entire textbook and teaching yourself. I can't even begin to say everything else. Just DO NOT TAKE HIM!
This class is designed to make students fail. He is truly bad and I will be reporting him to the department of economics. Do not take this class.
Worst decision I've ever made. I'm a good student who's always had a 4.0, so believe me when I say this class was hellish when I barely got by with a C. He gives long homeworks w/ errors that are time consuming & barely help your grade, exams that are practically impossible to pass, isn't open to helping & copy & pastes email responses.TERRIBLE PROF
Took online MicroEcon and the entire class experienced constant issues with the professor such as: misleading questions, correct questions marked wrong on homework, none to little feedback/aid provided. (Students only received credit for correct answers marked wrong if they caught on and reached out so this consequently lowered everyone's grades)
Good prof, actually enjoys teaching and likes to answer questions. Responded quickly to my canvas messages and actually taught me micro.
Worst class & professor ever. I consider myself a great student with a 3.9 GPA. I regret so much taking this class with this professor. Never thought anything, test were on Honorlock and questions were hard no matter how much you study. All he care was for no cheating. Once you answer a question you could not go back to review it. Don't choose him
Great man who is very passionate about his field of study. His lectures are neat, but it would be more ideal if he was the only speaker, as he always asks the class questions mid-lecture; that was the most annoying part of the course. His tests are the hardest in the Economics dept but he does guarantee one thing-- you will learn economics
Honestly learned a lot in this class. I had to put the effort in but it worked in my favor bc I ended up with a good grade. Definitely ask questions and go to office hours.
Exams are worth(85%), hw(15%). The exams aren't impossible to do, but they're hard and very long. LOOK @ the hw&ppts & you'll get a passing grade. He's a bit fast-paced on lectures so take pictures. Attendance boosts your final grade, so come to every class and you'll get points added. He's a very nice person, so feel free to ask questions
Do not take this class. He gives super hard quizzes/tests that include content that isn't in the material he provides. The class itself is really hard and there is barely any extra credit. Everything is on Honorlock, except weekly quizzes. Some of the tests/quizzes had the wrong answers too.
Do NOT take this class!! Class is designed to make you fail. Tests are worth 80%, quizzes are worth 20%. Tests are extremely hard and cover material that isn't even in the book of PowerPoint he gives. He puts the wrong answers on the tests/quizzes and most of the class wouldn't pass. Save your GPA and don't take him
If you can avoid taking his class I would. With no assignments to actually practice economics it was impossible for a higher grade. I can not say one thing positive about this class. 80% of your grade is from your exams and the homework are basically quizzes. I'm sure there is an alternative class that you will actually learn and pass in.
I genuinely feel bad for this professor. Something must've happened to him in his personal life to make him act in such heinous, disgusting ways with students. This behavior is absolutely inexcusable. I'm sorry for whatever he is going through to treat students in such a degrading and dehumanizing ways. Please leave teaching, it is not your forte.
Professor Jose Lopez-Calleja, it is time to stop leaving your own positive reviews. This professor does not have 70+ negative reviews for no reason
Mr. Lopez Calleja is an incredible proffessor! You have to put in the work, but if you do, you'll find your knowledge and love for economics grow!
He is a fantastic instructor. Responds to emails quickly and provided great feedback. Very flexible and treated me with respect. Gives 4 tests, weekly homework, and an extra credit quiz at the end. Tests are pretty easy if you study. He also curved the final grade. Very nice and fair. I would take this prof for any econ class. Great!
Lopez is one of the best professors at FIU. His course is well organized and easy to follow online. Gives 3 tests, all proctored but fair. Weekly hw assignments and quizzes. Lots of grading opportunities. He provides an outline of study material for tests. Straightforward and easy as long as you do the work. Curves exams. Great class!
Prof Lopez is an amazing professor. He cares for his students and their success in econ. He is helpful and will do what he can to accommodate student needs. You will learn useful info that you can apply. He is organized, consistent, and makes sure students are on the same page. Material can be challenging, but not bad at all. Would take him again.
Amazing micro prof. Course is not easy, but he does a great job of explaining. He is thorough and knowledgeable. Read the text and do the hw assign and you should be ok. He only tests the important stuff so pay attention in class. Very reasonable and curves at the end. Great prof!
He doesn't do lectures, just gives you slides and tests. Material is accessible for free, but tests use Honorlock and charge $4.45 each time. Tests will have questions that aren't on the slides or videos, so digest EVERYTHING. Not crazy hard but tried my best and could only get a B+. Extra credit test at the end of the course (worth 3 points).
Hard but he's fair. Reading through every single page of the chapter's assigned along with practice/review book questions and reviewing the ppts help a lot. Exams are 75% of your grade and HW is only 25%, he tries to curve grades (whenever possible). I do guarantee anyone one thing, any class that you take with him, you WILL learn economics.
Professor is terrible. Majority of your grade is from 4 Honorlock tests, which he only allows you to take on a Sunday night between 6:30 and 9:30 pm. It is so inconvenient. On top of that you are not allowed to review any answers to any questions on your exam prior to submitting it. You are unable to even mark a question for later review.
Your grade is based on 4 Honorlock tests. Professor only allows you to take the test on Sunday evenings between 6:30 and 9:30. He is very difficult and inconsiderate of his students schedules. Also the instructions for the exams are unclear and confusing. He doesnt allow anyone to review questions or go back to exam questions prior to submitting
Lopez is the BEST. This class is easy if you study and do weekly homework. Tests are similar to hw questions and some reappear on the exam. He responds to questions quickly and is very nice. I wish I had other online profressirs like him. Would definitely take classes with him again.
Professors who do not grade a single assignment have a lot of nerve by not allowing late work, but this class takes the cake. 72% of your grade is exams. You have 1 attempt/HW question, some weeks you have 50+ questions on top of the required quiz, dynamic study modules, videos, and reading quiz. Keep in mind, everything is done on mylab.
I believe these reviews are fake and by the professor. I know its a big accusation but all reviews including mine and classmate were deleted. He's a horrible teacher, does not send learning material, you learn on your own, and then the tests are all proctored with trick questions, can't go back to change your answers. All bad reviews are true.
Took the class online. He's test are impossible to pass and are most of your grade. All test are locked down. All you have to rely on is your book. Get a different professor.
Very nice prof. I don't like economics at all, but he made my online class enjoyable. Weekly assignments are easy to follow and there's plenty of ways to earn your grade. There are three tests and weekly homework. He responds quickly and is knowledgeable. He's accessible and gives nice curves. Very fair. I would take him again if I could. Best.
Lopez was a great online prof. Syllabus and grading is clear. Chapter assignments due every week and worth 30% of grade. There are 3 exams and questions are from book material. Tests were moderately difficult with some easy questions. Make sure to read book and do the Study Plan and you will do fine on the exams. He gives a curve at end. Got a B+.
Amazing course with reasonable exams. Average on exams was mid 70's so there was a pretty good curve. Prof. Lopez is one of the best professors in the Econ dept. He knows his stuff. He explains the theory and uses real-world examples to show economic concepts. This class was helpful in preparing for the job market. Loved class & would take again.
I you feel comfortable reading a microeconomics book on your own and then passing 4 honor locked exams, that are very tricky and impossible to get a good grade, then take his online class.
Took class online. You need to read and study on your own. There is teacher on the other side but he doesn't send any papers, review, videos to help you study or learn. You are on your own. I dedicated a lot of time to the class but his test are hard to pass, LOCKED and tricky. Test are worth most of your grade. Run.
If you plan on taking this class online, be prepared to teach yourself. Exams are honorlock, timed and expects you to memorize formulas, no cheat sheets allowed and no study guide. He doesn't curve exam, exams are hard to pass and tricky. Once you select an answer you can't go back and change the answer or review your answers.
If you read other recent reviews, you'll see the other drawbacks to this class that I wont repeat. I remember he made a post on how a "review" within the online textbook, helped students do better on exams. That is a complete lie as I spent hours studying the review, just for the questions on the Exams to be NOTHING like what I studied for.
The worst teacher ever! Take this if you want to make your life difficult. Exams were on honor lock. He made every test harder as we went through the semester because he was paranoid that everyone was cheating ... even though most were failing. Also, I studied and did not cheat, but I still suffered the consequences.
A lot of people believe that he is writing the few good reviews he has. If you want to save your GPA BEWARE of him. I gave him a chance and enrolled in the class, but decided to drop it. There are many other better professors that will ACTUALLY teach you something, and won't be so paranoid on their students cheating.
He deletes other people's reviews, I wrote one around August, guess what.. it's gone. He's deleted about three of my reviews.
He isn't a flexible teacher. I understand he wants to avoid students cheating but the tests a very heavy on your grade and is far too much information to memorize for an exam you can only take at a certain time and day. You cannot change it for any plausible excuse either, even for a global holiday.
Do not take Jose Lopez-Calleja as your professor. All exams are not open-book, no reference materials may be used, are administered with the virtual proctoring service Honorlock, and no bathroom breaks are allowed once you start the test. Also, if you engage in cheating or suspicious activity during a test, you will be reported to the university.
He's a tough grader, but if you want to learn economics he's the best. He encourages his students to study and ask questions. 4 exams and no final or midterm. I took him during summer and we did exams with honorlock. during regular sessions (Fall-Spring) exams are in class with LockDown. H/w is on Pearson.
DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Incredibly difficult summer course, the material provided was of little to no help in all assignments and exams. Homework covered even more advanced topics than was present in the textbook, and there was ALOT of it. Dedicated like 3 hours everyday to homework and notes just to be met with frustration and confusion. Learn ECO2023 in person.
This professor will not teach you anything. Pearson assignments only, with over 100 questions a WEEK of homework and quizzes. No lectures. Everything is on Pearson. If this is how a course like this is run without any teaching whatsoever and only an online platform, then couldn't anyone just be a professor? He's not a true professor whatsoever.
Professor's exams are extremely tough, with no open-book policy and strict proctoring. However, if you engage with the material and use study aids like unstuckstudy ai, you can succeed. The course is challenging but rewarding for those willing to put in the work.
Is he tough? Yes. Will he make you work for your grade? Sure. Does he care about his students success and well-being both in and out of class? Absolutely! As someone who suffers from health conditions that limit me a lot, he has always been compassionate and helpful always going out of the way to respect my rights and ensure my personal success.
He was the worst professor I had at fiu. Took him online. At the start of the semester he did a zoom about cheating. By end of semester he'd accused almost everyone of cheating. Every exam 10-20 people would be accused of cheating. His exams are also very hard to pass. I was always an all "A" student and ended with a low C in his class.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! I had this class over the summer and it was the worst experience ever. Not only was the exams extremely difficult and stressful - they were majorly of your grade (around 70%). The homework took so much time and the “study guide” he recommended did not help at all when it came to the exams. He was so focused on people cheating!!
This teacher is a bum who will give you hundreds of questions on every homework assignment. If you get anything wring there are no redo's. Do not take this class. Please save urself
Doesn't explain well
Undoubtedly the worst professor I've ever had in college. His course structure is along the lines of (72% of your grade for 3 tests & 28% for homework/quizzes). All tests are honor locked, and he's more concerned with you cheating (which you can't) rather than setting us up for success to take the test. Just awful, save yourself the headache.
Prof. Lopez is the best teacher I have ever had. He creates his own lectures using his own notes and actually talks to you about the current situations happening instead of reading a 4-year old book. Sure his class has 3 tests that carry most of the weight but if you just pay attention in class and ask questions if you're lost, you will pass.
It is very difficult to understand what he wants and how to do the assignments. There is no feedback, no expectations, nothing. Very horrible structure, difficult homeworks, difficult exams, terrible.
He was honestly not that bad. I had him over this past Summer B and he did all he could to teach us the information in the short 6 weeks he had. His grades were very test heavy, but he allows us to have flashcards to have any information on it. Attendance wise, it's not really mandatory, but it will definitely help your grade to show up.
I actually felt like I learned in this class, definitely on the difficult side, but I came back to write this review because I felt way more prepared than my peers that took different professors. Thanks prof. lopez
if you're not an eco major don't take this class. The test are are huge 50-55 questions and have barely anything to do with the homework's or study guides. they could either barely help your grade or insanely drop it. just don't take it unless you absolutely have to. if you do you need help
