boring all you talk about is plants BOO
took in a maymester and man was he tough... had a lot of tests but some were take home. if taking in a regular semester would have been much easier. i would recommend him... gives a lot of extra credit.....
is a great professor. he is really nice and helps you learn. goes over a lot of material but takes circumstances under consideration. TAKE HOME EXAMS!! the final is verbatum all of the other exams questions. gives extra credit!!! easy A!!
Very helpful
Great teacher, very helpful. Gave lots of extra credit that really helps if you are straddling the fence. He kept the class interesting. You must do all of your work to succeed in this class.
bad teacher. unhelpful, didn't care about students or class. made us choose between faith and science on test. graded unfairly. racially biased.
He was nice and nerdy! He gave LOTS of extra credit which helped me! And he gaev out two take home test, but igf you dont pay attention during lecture..good luck!
There was so much work in this class, but most of it was a huge waste of time. We did not learn much for what we put into it. There are a lot of chances for extra credit though. Our third test was a take-home(as were the first two), but was absolutely ridiculous, and had 180 questions. Other students found the questions on other colleges' websites.
All the exams except the final exam were take home. You also can get alot of extra credit which helps with your grade. This class did have alot of work but it wasn't that hard. I would recommend taking him.
Very good teacher, explains very good, take home test, group work, I learned a Lot, I do recomend him. Is hard to find good biology teachers and this one is good.
the person who posted on 7/1 is completely wrong! He is a very nice guy and really cares about his students. The sticker & stamp system cracked me up but it bumped my grade from a B to and A. We took a field trip to the botanical gardens which was so fun! His labs are confusing and not structured. Overall a great teacher and I would recommend him.
Awesome teacher. I actually was not scared to go to this class. He was very helpful and never moved on to the next subject until everyone fully understood the the first one.
JL WAS AN AWSOME TEACHER. I WAS SCARED TO TAKE THIS CLASS AS A SUMMER COURSE, BUT IT WENT VERY SMOOTHLY. IF YOU STUDY THE REVIEW SHEETS YOU WILL PASS THE TESTS. I MADE AN A. HE WONT MOVE ON TO THE NEXT SUBJECT UNTIL EVERYONE COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDS WHAT HE IS TEACHING. HE IS ALSO AVALIABLE TO HELP ANSWER QUESTIONS BEFORE, AFTER, AND ANY OTHER TIME
He is an awesome teacher. i highly recommend him, he made learning easy and very insteresting. a lot of extra credit that helps in the end!! Cares about what students are learning and willing to help anytime. I strongly recommend him and i am for sure taking him again!!!
EGERMY IS AN AWESOME TEACHER. HE MAKE BIOLOGY FUN TO LEARN. I REALLY LIKE THE WAY HE USES ANALOGIES TO RELATE THE MATERIAL. HE IS A COOL DOWN TO EARTH GUY
This is a great class to take for anyone who thinks Biology may be too difficult for them. Mr. Egremy makes it so easy to understand the material, almost too easy. I highly recommend him!
If you are not a biology major - this is definitely the class to take. He teaches well - enough for you to understand and get an easy 4 credit hours.
HORRIBLE
One of my favorite teachers! i had him for bio 1. He can be a lttle boring in lecture but the labs are cool. He is funny and a little blunt. There are three mock test but if you study them it would be very easy. Easy A. I would take him again if I could.
Jose Luis is amazing, such a great teacher. He knows what hes talking about, he helped write the lab manual. I SUCK in science but i came out of class with a high 'A'. He gives tons of chances for extra credit and gives practice tests. TAKE him, hes funny too.
his test are easy. it come from the mock test... but if someone cheat then he'll take the mock test away... and the mock test you can get the answer online by going to www.ask.com or other web page. the exam question come exactly like the mock test
J.L. is such a great teacher, he makes sure that you understand what he is teaching before moving on. His lectures are funny and he is hott, in a geeky way, but I love that. Overall he is a great bio teacher and will make you laugh everyday, I'm hoping he will teach bio 2 so I can take him again.
He's so nice, always willing to help. Mock tests ARE the tests. I suggest that you ask him for help on the lab reports, he's keen on details -- but all in all an easy A.
Good teacher, easy class. I highly recommend him, especially for people who aren't bio or science majors.
Very helpful and interesting. Highly recommended, especially for non-science majors.
whoever posted on 7/1 is an idiot. Egremy is so cool and nice and is willing to help you no matter what! He has a lot of patience too, and I know this for a fact b/c there are a lot of stupid, immature ppl in my class that take up a lot of his time. But he manages to get passed the dumb ppl in our class and continue on teaching.
JL is awesome. Workload is moderate. Admits he's a geek. Great at teaching, relates everything to real-life situations so we can understand it. Never continues until everyone is caught up. Picky on lab reports, but only 2. Little homework, labs are easy, and you get tons of extra credit if you just do assignments he gives. Semi-easy A!
He is a awesome teacher! Even though i didnt get to stay in his class for long but overall he is really understanding and will help you if you need the help. Highly recommend if you want to know how biology works :D
You'd better hopw that you aren't paired with an idot in class because you will definatly fail. After teacher review he was a even more cynical than before. Point being talk about scary if you like a good challenge or if your a brain then go for it but really hang on tight.
JL is a great teacher. He truly does bring things to real understandable life terms. He wants you to succeed! As with any class, show up and pay attention, you will have no problem. :)
Egremy was pretty cool. He offers a whole lot of extra credit that really helps. Every single test i took was either take home or he gave us a mock test that was identical to the actual test. The final exam was even take home! If you ask for help, he helps till you understand! Sometimes he seems a bit rude, but hes not! VERY Strict on cheating tho!
I have JL as a PI for the STELLAR project at school and at first I absolutely HATED this guy, but he grew on me! He is so understanding and helps me out alot with all my work, he has gone out of his way to help me decide and create a personal research study on guess what...a plant!WARNING: he loves moss! and is a coco.
J.L. was a Haas, you could tell from the lectures he really loved teaching Botany, he knows his stuff and expects you to know what your talking about. He give loads of extra credit, and mock tests that mirror the real thing, all in all not too difficult a class and i learned alot.
Mr. Egremy is terrible. He cares way too much about format and barely at all about the content of the papers. He is very biased in his grading, and seems to have favorites in the class. I did end with an A, and the class is not too hard (partly due to so much extra credit), but I would defnitely NOT take him again.
Very confusing, most of his lectures are so behind with the assignments and test. The test were the same as the review, but you didn't learn untill after you took the test. Very confusing, labs were fun, but again same thing... Lots of extra credit so take advantage of it, it helps in the end!
He is a nice teacher, he will take his time to explain things to you but he is very fond of essay questions, the test are right from the assesments, and lots of extra credit.
I had this guy for bio 1 and there is no way I would take any of his classes again. He gives way too much wook to do online. He tells you to take these assesments online that are at least 100 questions long and they are timed. But he does this before you even get to the chapter during class. He is a nice guy but he is very anal about esay questions
I am taking JL this semester. I find him very easy! he loves to teach and uses very interesting ways to make sure we remember things... if i wasn't transferring next semester i would definitely take him again. His class is a breeze...He is also very attractive! wish i had chosen his lab in Stellar instead
He is very smart and loves to teach. He is willing to help you if you need it.
I don't like science...at all, but Professor Egremy made it quite enjoyable. It wasn't an "easy" class, must pay attention, take notes, and STUDY, but in the end it pays off. He's very good about helping students and making sure you understand the material. I would recommend him to everyone, great teacher, great class.
I would not take him again simply because the assignments online will kill you. He never says anything about them. If you are good at keeping the syllabus in your head then he's great. HE's a great guy but the online stuff will deff kill your grade
he is a great teacher and would hope more teachers use his methods of teaching.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!.. i went off what the other comments said & it was all lies! we're supposed to be on chapter 12 & we barley did chapter 6 as a class & he expected us to do chapters 7 - 12 on our own... online quizzes will kill you & he's horrible at putting up assignments online that you have to do.. DO NOT TAKE HIM! SAVE YOURSELF!
He is a good teacher for BOTANY which he teaches in the fall he is very good and helpful gives tons of extra credit but is sort of confusing about due dates and didnt stick to the sylubus, his Biology class is hard, and is supposed to be fast paced, we fell behind and it was very hard with he online stuff at the end, I would take him for Botany!
I would not take him again. His quizzes were very hard to understand and you had on eon a weekly basis along with other work.I tried very hard in this class and scored a c as my final grade. If you arent good with online assignment i wouldnt take this class he will not remind you about quizzes its pretty much your responsibility.
I don't see the point in this prof. Online quizzes EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT on chapters you pretty much have to teach to yourself, and then you don't go over that chapter until weeks later. So if I'm teaching myself new material EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT then being quizzed on it the same night, why even show up to the boring class? Would recommend someone else
Very helpful! He does give online quizzes every Friday night for the first half of the semester, however at the end of the quiz you get the answers. The test questions are the exact same as those on the quiz which is very helpful! Plus if you do the quizzes ahead of time you have an open Friday night! Think smart not hard and you'll do well!
I don't know if it was just this semester or what, but I thought Mr. E was a bad teacher. I came here to see what people said, and all the comments were great. However, he was very poorly organized, and would not give you feedback on essays.
Although his tests come straight from the quizzes, his grading is very biased and unfair at times. His lectures are way behind so there's almost no point in going to class. And it doesn't have to do with "working smarter" when he himself sometimes fails to even put up material online. Find another prof. and you'll be fine.
I thought that he was a good teacher overall, lectures do get redundant at times, but they are necessary unlike others are telling you. His tests are tough because of the essays and he's quite picky on them. Personally I thought I was going to fail but walked away with a 'B'. I think the labs really help understand the lectures and don't miss them!
The tests were over the online quizzes but the online quizzes were hard. They are only for a little bit of the grade but if you miss one than their goes 1/3 of your test. Lectures were ok. He gives extra credit so just dont miss the opportunities but it was an ok class.
Good professor, lecture sometimes lags, but it's necessary. He lets you know what will be on the exam, so no surprises there. Gives extra credit.
I'm taking his non-majors class right now and it is DIFFICULT! It goes far too in depth for someone who has no interest in being a science major of any kind. The book he uses is expensive and he assigns online quizzes all at once and then nothing for weeks at a time, leaving you taking quizzes over material that you won't cover for weeks.
I took his class and while most of the class work was doable, his vagueness makes the class a lot more difficult. If you don't like vague teachers, don't take Mr. Egremy.
I took this teacher for Fall 2011 and while his class was passable we had to do online work and quizzes. He is helpful and willing to answer questions. I took his non-majors class and I had 2 project and the rest is lecture.
I just got done taking his non majors biology class. I didn't like the fact that every week a group had to present and because of that he barely did any teaching. I am leaving this course with pretty much no knowledge on biology whatsoever. If you actually want to learn something do not take his class. He does give extra credit though.
I have been reading the reviews and I am not buying them. This instructer is extemely challenging, you are in college. He is extremely fair! Gives tons of extra credit. I thought I was going to get a C at best, recieved an A. He is the one of the most knowledgeble bio instuctors I have met. I believe I am a better person for taking this class!
Is passionate about biology and loves what he teaches. Creates fun ways to keep students interested. There is a skit we had to do in class hated it to start but it turned out informative and enjoyable.Quizzes were easy.He helped if we asked. Extra credit was a plus.Paying attention at beginning helps.I received a B in my worst subject. Would retake
SO DISORGANIZED! this prof literally does no work for this class.in class he uses the powerpoints pre-made by the book and doesn't even explain info well. online hw/quizzes always ahead of class so you have to teach yourself before he even covers the ch.(& uses WAY too many unnecessary air quotes and talks down to class)but that's just a pet peeve
grading is horrible. he grades on a random point system that is confusing bc he doesn't set a total amt of point achievable on syllabus, he just said it depends. this is just irritating bc you never quite know where you stand in the class. its not so bad but if you prefer teachers who stick to their sylabus, dont take this guy
Homework due every wednesday, quizzes every friday, all work is online. All homework and quizzes are due two weeks before he ever goes over the material in class, his lectures consist of him reading directly off of a powerpoint made by the publisher. Attendance is mandatory however completely pointless.
Horrible prof. Class is ALL over the place! Needs to get his act together an actually do work rather than using McGraw hill PowerPoints and relying solely on online hw for grades.
Always late to class! It's frustrating that I pay so much money for classes and the professor can't manage to be on time
This is the most challenging class I have taken in college. The instructor will go out of his way to help the students. I thought I was going to get a terrible grade and ended up with a good grade. If you want to learn about plants Mr. Egremy is wonderful, challenging, humorous, and will prepare his students for the next level!
You can tell he really does know his stuff when it comes to biology. You do alot of the quizzes, homework online. Sometimes the class structure seems a little all over the place. You have to read for the test of course. He's a good guy & is willing to always work with you & the class to better the situation.
yes, he is fair and he gives extra credit. he is very passionate. BUT!!!... all work is online and that work covers material we have yet to learn in class. it's very hard to stay awake in this class, i'm not gonna lie. also, it's very disorganized and he isn't very good at clarifying when assignments are due, etc.
Everyone did one presentation and we did a couple "plays" where we acted out cellular processes. The class was fun; professor used a lot of analogies to make it easy to understand. Prof. was friendly, helpful and funny; would take him again.
Very boring class, had a hard time staying awake. A lot of the work is online and about stuff we haven't covered in class. Get used to reading your textbook. It's the only way you'll understand anything. Student chapter presentations suck and were hard to follow. He did some cool things to spice up the class like plays and making cells out of cake.
Took him for Bio for non-science majors. What a mistake. He never taught one single class lecture he made us get into groups and teach each chapter of the book. I learned nothing and his tests were hard because he never taught so we didn't understand the material. I have no idea why he is a teacher if he doesn't want to teach.
Okay instructor the only thing I liked about the class were his jokes and comparing biology to everyday life. Assignments and tests are on connect.
He's a great prof. Had him for biology 2 and botany. Tests and quiz are super easy. If you can't study well not gonna work for you. He's very helpful otherwise and will go out of his way to help you. I love this prof!
Absolutely great professor. I took his class for Biology for non-science majors and I have to say, I understood the material clearly. His references on how Biology effects everyday life is very interesting. I would highly recommend his class to anyone interested in this field of study.
Egremy was an amazing teacher! He is so willing to help and is always available. He makes great analogies that really help you understand everything! You definitely need the book there are quizzes over the reading that are due weekly the book is online quizzes are easy though. tests are online and take home. Overall Egremy makes this class easy!
Literally the unclearest teacher I have ever had. Teaches directly out of the book, using unclear terminology and explains nothing. Makes us group and teach the class - so I'm learning from people who equally don't know what's going on. His tests are super hard because he goes off on tangents and then expects up to understand and know the material.
The teacher himself is cool, but he is unclear because he goes off on tangents. I took bio for non science majors and it was equally as hard as taking bio for science majors. You learn off of the online book you buy. there is alot of work involved and you definetly need to study for tests. if your not dedicated you won't pass
The first day of class we had to do some test on academic dishonesty. this set the tone for the rest of the year at how crazy and how many ridiculous hoops you have to jump through to pass this class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS unless you already know the subject thoroughly. Do yourself a favor and do not take this class unless you can help it.
Biology is by far my worst subject ever. Thankfully Mr. Egremy offers a lot of help. He grades SUPER hard in lab reports but offers a lot of extra credit throughout the semester. He also gives very helpful reviews before test and has about 3 online tests that you can do at home.
Do the online reading, and be VERY careful when answering the test questions online! I'm failing because I forgot to answer two essay questions, I thought I had to pick one out of a bunch of them but I misread. Lab reports! Ask him to review it!! very important. Great guy, great teacher.
Horrible. Everything is online, tests, quizzes, chapter sections. If everything was during class then attendance would be mandatory and it wouldn't be hard to pass the class. He never answers any e-mails or messages in a timely manner, it's hard doing all the work online when it's due.
Hated this class. Pretty much everything is online (hw, quizzes, tests). This makes them open note but when you take the final, you can use nothing. I emailed him and didn't get a response until 3 weeks later. He does offer up to 10 points on your final grade for participation but overall, he doesn't teach the material. You teach yourself.
He is a nice person. Is just that he's a bit unorganized just ask him when u have doubts. Read the book and don't overstress. For the final just go over all his test and u'll do perfectly fine. Pay attentions and read the book and u'll get a decent grade.
Mr. Egremy is horrible as a professor. He expects everyone to teach themselves biology and doesn't add much to PowerPoint lectures that he goes over in class. Doesn't respond to phone calls either. I'm sure there are better biology professors at Vista, but he's definitely not one of them.
It is a confusing class. Textbook and homework are online modules. They rarely match up with what the professor is trying to teach in class. Assignments from lecture and lab are stacked upon top of each including lab reports, online assignments, online tests, and in class assignments. You need time to study and do the online modules
Worst professor ever!! The final chapter presentation has to be done in a group, and he wants you to actually have 3 hours of one on ones with him or a tutor for this dumb project. Must of us have lives and don't have time for the nonsense. He actually makes each group try and teach a chapter. If I wanted to be a teacher I would be. Don't take him!
This class was not hard but it felt pointless to show up to class. Your whole class is basically done through canvas and online modules and quizzes. Tests are online and you show up to class just for boring lectures. There is a final project that you have to do with a group, its not to hard you just have to make time for it.
When it comes to Biology, this guy knows it. He explained it well, always answered questions, and is willing to help, he even throws in a few funny stories from time to time. Genuinely, he is a nice person. HOWEVER, when it comes to being a professor, he leaves much to be desired. EX: We had a test over Ch's 4 5 6 and he was still covering Ch.2.
I'm so tired of everyone ripping this poor guy apart! I took him this fall semester and honestly it's not him that was bad it was biology in general. However if you ask for help and do tutoring with him it isn't bad. This guy is very understanding and there is a lot of extra credit opportunities, as long as he knows you care he won't let you fail!
Dr. Egremy is an awesome professor. His lectures are gravy if you pay attention and the lab is fun if you have cool partners. The reading is kind of tough, but he goes over it in class so no worries. Make sure you study for the practicums and the lab reports because those will bite you if you don't. All in all just pay attention and you're good.
I took Mr. Egremy for Bio for non science majors and, while Mr. Egremy himself seems like a really nice person, this class was the worst I've taken. I left the class confused and was upset that he had the class teach chapters-I had to teach Genetics!?! I took bio for science majors the next semester and I've learned so much! Take someone else.
Expect lots of reading and quizzes!! Too much work for not being a Biology major. He's a nice man though and explains his lectures pretty well. If you miss a class, expect to be lost!
Mr Egremy was a great professor. I really enjoyed his class. Although his class was the most challenging this past semester, I did good. I enjoyed the way he would explain boring things so it would stick with us. Participate thru out the semester and you will be glass you did, at the end you get much credit for participation. I would take him again
Mr. Egremy is a really good professor, he is always willing to help students. He loves to use visuals in class and uses a lot of analogies to understand concepts. You will need the book, all his work is online but really easy. I took him this past maymester and don't regret it, all the people talking bad about him just seem lazy. Project isn't hard
I am not a huge fan of science & after taking this class, I know why I am not. He does not make the class interesting, I dreaded going to this class. He is a nice man, he knows his stuff, I just did not enjoy the class. He sometimes is not clear on assignments, he takes forever to grade. Not my favorite teacher.
He's a good professor, he's difficult, but it's not impossible to pass. If your first option for a professor is not available, he's a good option. He's nice and funny at times, just be prepared for hw and the tests aren't the easiest. He does however curve tests and give an option of 10 x-points to your class grade for readin a book he chooses.
The professor himself is a nice man, however his class was boring. The textbook was loose page textbook which is impossible to resale. There is homework every weekend from the textbook that 60 questions online. HOWEVER, he gives a bunch of extra credit. If you do the work you will pass.
I took him for 1308 and it was honestly the easiest classes I've ever taken. You do need to pay attention and study for the tests, but other than that, the homework was long but easy, and he gives extra credit. He also does stamps which adds to your overall grade. I passed his class with a 106 average. He's a great teacher and funny.
I had to retake Biology 1 three times because I could not retain the information, professor Egremy really puts the information into real world examples that make an impact and helps clarify everything. He loves what he does and really knows his stuff. Show up to class and ask questions and you will have no problem getting an A.
Easiest biology class imaginable. All work is take home, even test. Gives a ton of extra credit. Easy A+. Class itself is a little boring but he is a really nice man that knows his stuff and will always help you. The 8 or so people I sat next to all got A's as well and liked him
I enjoyed taking Egremy because he would use good examples to help you understand, also gives a lot of extra credit
If he gave all of the classes for science that I need, I would only take him. He is by far the best teacher I've had, he is very clear in lectures, labs are straight forward, he always makes sure to answer any questions and finds easy ways to help understand a topic. Recommend him to the fullest, you won't regret it.
Professor Egremy made understanding and actually learning biology easy. Any question you had he could generally answer and there was always extra credit opportunities. The class was fun and the homework consisted of quizzes and about 3 exams done from the comfort of your couch. He seems strict first day but he is the best professor I've had at NVC.
He is an overall good and kind person, but his grading system and assignments aren't very clear at times. NO TEST REVIEWS and NO NOTES FOR TEST (depends if take home test) besides that you're on your own. 1 Major Group Project not to difficult but TUTORING HOURS REQUIRED. Extra Credit throughout semester.
He's an overall good person! His lectures are kinda boring but there are notes and slides you can refer to in case you fall asleep. Give's so many opportunities for extra credit. The only thing I did not like were the way he grades test, I feel it's a bit unfair but other than that it was a smooth sailing class nothing extreme.
Easy going, REALLY knowledgable and fair. Can't go wrong with him, he's really funny and has a lot of stories if YOU are engaged.
His classes are entertaining, very. His grading is kind of weird but he gives extra credit so you can help your grade by just doing them. You shouldn't skip his classes cause you will miss a chunk of info. I really recommend his classes specially for those who's bio isn't their strength.
Horrible. Have to take a stupid plagiarism test from the university of Indiana. Must get a perfect score on test, or you fail. The university requires a 9/10, but he wants a perfect score. This stressed me out and I learned more from thi his whole class throughout the semester.
I honestly really didn't like him. He goes off topic a lot and his lectures were really boring. Tests were somewhat okay. He also makes you do a huge group presentation towards the end of the semester where you and your group have to teach a whole chapter and the presentation has to last all of class.
Only reason I took this class was because it was required for my major. If you can't stand weekly homework then don't take this class. The homework is very tedious and annoying. You have to present a chapter from the book. The only positive of this class is that it's super easy to earn extra credit by simply participating in class.
I'm sure that JL is an amazing man on a personal level, but as an instructor, not so much. The assignments and quizzes that I did through LearnSmart did not coincide with what was being taught in class. The tests were ridiculously difficult. He does offer a lot of extra credit. Nice guy; horrible class.
I really enjoyed his Botany class. We got to take a trip to the botanical gardens and learned a lot about plants. He offers opportunities for extra credit as well. The only thing I would say is that he is a tough grader, but overall I really enjoyed the class.
I had this professor for botany & overall I enjoyed it. There is a field trip at the end of the semester. Sweet guy. He really knows what he's talking about, especially with botany. He can go on and on about plants. Make sure you ask questions though. He's more than happy to go out of his way to make sure you fully understand! Detailed grader.
I wouldn't recommend taking this professor, all you do in his class is look at power points, no hands on activities so class is really long and dragging, only one person in our class passed the first test, he doesn't help you when it comes to what to study for the test, in order to boost the grades up he came up with a ridiculous group assignment.
This class was very hard. I took it for maymester. The test were difficult to say the least the only reason I pass was because the class was allowed to take the test at home. The professor is fair but firm make sure to do your assignment on time. He dose give an easy 10 points in extra credit you just have to speak in class.
he makes you take a plagiarism test that you WILL NOT pass, but other than that he's super nice. you will need your book for this class and be prepared to work in groups!
Mr. Egremy (JL) was a really cool bio 2 professor. He does give you big projects but you have plenty of time to complete them. One of these projects is specimen collecting w/ journal due at the end of the semester, start as soon as you can. Hour long group presentation. He also gives gives good Extra cred. No reason why you shouldn't get an A.
Good prof. 1 group pres, 2 lab practicums, 3-4 exams, 2 lab reports, 4-5 easy quizzes & 1 major project where you have to collect specimens and keep a journal about it which you have the whole semester to complete, start right away on it. Up to 10pts of overall extra credit. Just study whats on the study guides. Takes awhile to respond to emails.
He's great as a biologist but not so much as a teacher. Only 2 tests and 2 lab practicums as well as the final. Labs aren't important except the ones for the two lab reports. Also have to collect plants and bugs for a specimen collection. Group presentation over a chapter in the book not too bad just read the chapter. Used a free online textbook.
JL has an amazing sense of fashion, flyest dude on campus. Easy quizzes made by students. Didnt feel engaged in labs. Give yourself plenty of time for the specimen collection. PARTICIPATE IN CLASS! He gives extra points for participation. Extra credit for reading a book, sparknotes version of it comes in clutch.
The worst prof I have ever had. Was late on the first day of class. Holds his students expectations higher than himself. Very irresponsible. Does not respond to emails. Unfairly treats certain students (me lol). Takes forever to grade and put them in. His thought process does not makes sense. Goes off topic a lot. Doesn't stick to due dates. awful
a couple of weeks into the semester it was easy to get a hang of things. There is a mandatory group project on one of the chapters which is an easy A if the rubric is followed directly. Be prepared for hw due every Saturday on learn-smart tho it is easy. He will drop you for attendance. Also all the tests for this semester were take home tests.
Science has always been a foreign language to me. However, this professor made learning a breeze. He is very good at making the material easy to understand by using real-life scenarios. Take advantage of all the extra credit because this amazing professor gives you the best opportunities to pass. This is truly the best professor I've had yet.
I love professor Egremy! He made biology really easy for me to understand. A lot of people in my class had trouble, but only because they did not pay attention in class. He gives excellent analogies and examples that make learning easy to remember. I would highly recommend taking him. He also gives SO many opportunities for extra credit.
If you don't understand biology or even science in general, Mr. Egremy is your professor. Mr. Egremy is highly knowledgable and makes his lectures easy to understand. You will not regret taking his class. There were only three test grades and a group presentation. You can earn up to 10 points extra credit as well.
Overall he is a nice professor! However he holds his standards a little unreleastic and his expectications to high. One of the worst things was that he makes the students teach the class for each chapter which only confused the whole class. Even though two of the test were take home he does not give a 100% to help his students succeeded.
Prepare to be treated like you are a child. He will talk down to the whole class, and his method of extra credit, while substantial, is comparable to getting 'good boy stickers' in elementary. Try to find a teacher that will treat you like the adult you are and only choose JL if you have no other choice.
He is not a good professor. he does not know about what he is explaining. he memorizes the lectures and just repeat them. he makes the students teach a whole chapter. basically students end up explaining for him. he expects for you to learn everything but he does not explain it. horrible class. I took bio for science majors and i loved it.
He will literally drop you from class if you miss four classes. I had to provide documentation for work and child related missed days. He teaches like he's teaching a bunch of middle schoolers, but yet he EXPECTS you to not only understand but MASTER what he's teaching you, even though this is a Biology for Non Science Majors course. Online tests!
If you scroll down you'll see his horrible teaching style has been the same for years. The way he teaches is how teaches are trained NOT to teach. His way of teaching pushes students more towards failure than success. He makes you teach a group project and expects you to MASTER the subject even though you aren't studying to be a scientist.
Worst teacher I've ever encountered in my entire life. This class is a joke, a waste of money and completely ridiculous. He did not teach one single thing. Everyone in the class was constantly dumbfounded by this man and this class. You will leave every class period more angry than the next. Not enough space to say everything wrong with this class.
Let me start off by saying he is probably the worst professor I've had thus far. Wait no, HE IS the worst professor I've ever had. He makes you present to the class for an HOUR, basically to teach the class a whole chapter (which is his job). Overall DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. It's A JOKE AND WASTE OF MONEY. You will not learn a thing.
Dont listen to these 18 year old high school babies below. His tests are take-home and you can earn 10 bonus points (an entire letter grade) just by participating in class. His grading is super lenient on the 45 minute group presentation and his homework takes an hour tops every week. This is way easier than any other biology class youll take.
I really liked JL as a person, he is caring and as a professor he is extremely knowledgeable. However, I could not give him a better score because his assignments were very poorly explained. Often we were graded on criteria that were never mentioned. If you take him, make sure you research the criteria for each assignment. Tons of extra credit.
beware!! don't get me wrong but JL is a cool professor but he does makes you do a lot of work for a non-science major class that its crazy. online hw/assignments. 3 take home tests. he takes FOREVER to grade and will not respond to emails in timely manner. lectures are super boring. better off taking someone else if you want a easy workload!
I loved this class! There was a lot of tedious assignments, but if you did them you were fine. The tests were all take home or in your notes. DONT CHEAT!!!! He's really big on doing your own work. He will work with you until you understand and he goes over basic material
As a person he seems like a cool guy, as a Prof. he's terrible. Lectures don't really matter since you'll be graded on a few big assignments that have little to nothing to do with what you're learning in class. Too many group projects where you're forced to rely on other people for your success. Would not recommend this class unless you need it.
I wish I could give Prof. Egremy a better rating because he does offer a lot of extra credit, but the majority of my class failed both the first and second tests. Even if you understand the material, his grading system is hard to predict. I would not recommend.
This was one of the worst professors I have ever had. Lectures were all over the place, and he graded tests very hard.
amzing class! Professor, was dressed well nice, positive attitude, and hilarious. EVERYDAY. was ready to work and showed he wanted to be there. the end of his last lecture he recieved many verbal compliments on his class. his class was easy, tests and homeworks were online. very amazing professor who made science fun and worth it. extra credit
He is a good guy, but as a Professor, he isn't understanding that his students have other responsibilities such as work and other work for other classes. He doesn't explain anything and doesn't remind the students about what is due next class. I personally would not take him again or at all.
Don't take this class with him, this class is somewhat easy because a lot of your grade comes from the online modules. You don't really learn anything from him. He will never get through the whole 12 chpts. at one point you'll be learning 3 chpts simultaneously between him, online and group presentation. he is inconsistent with directions.
Good teacher, extra credit if you attend a class. If you don't understand well, explain until you understand. You can not miss any class because you are late, if you do not like to read more than required do not miss.
The exams are not graded fairly. There are 42 questions with two essay questions. The two essay questions are worth 60% of the test. If you do not write the essay questions with extreme detail and accuracy then you will fail the entire exam. The professor also does not give any exam prep or study guides.
Solid teacher, but grading isn't that great. Both tests we took were group tests, but the grading is subjective as the answers aren't clear cut. Homework is easy. We were not on the same schedule as the syllabus so due dates were a guessing game. Stay on top of things and it's an easy A. Bond with your group to make life easier during assignments.
1. He has a tally system so every time you ask a question or answer one you put down some tallys. (good or bad depends on how you are on speaking up) 2. lectures every class, has a monotone voice, very boring, didn't absorb any information. 3. Told us we had a group project but didn't explain it until the week it was due so it was very stressful.
1. He is NOT understanding that students have personal lives like work and family things, so you can ask for an extension on something and he might not give it to you. 2. overall okay guy just a horrible teacher
Professor E. is great at giving lectures. Just be sure to do your reading and chapter questions on time every week. He is very easy going and gives lots of extra credit opportunities.
Doesnt explain things well and has a group project that is very confusing. His test questions are easy but involves essay questions which are 60% of the grade. Hes a tough grader and assigns a chapter each week with two chapter assignments.
Professor Egremy is a very great professor. He is nice, always willing to help you on assignments, straight forward and an amazing at teaching.
Its not even a week into my fall semester and I already dont like this class am just taking it because it is required for me . bearly starting the semester and theres a quote and quote small test but your timed just almost every little thing here takes a lot of effort and worns you out I can already tell you all each class will be stressful
If you care about your mental health turn away.
Comes across very bland at first, but once you get to know him he is very kind and funny. Heavy accent, but I was able to understand very quickly. All his homework assignments are quizlet related. Exams are done at home online, no essays. Very monotone, so you might get sleepy in class, but overall, his class is fine.
Absolutely terrible. I will never put myself through that again. Wouldn't even touch the sign up button with a 1000 foot pole. Please take this as a severe warning. He is terrible. The worst. He has this extra credit thing where if your'e his favorite then he'll give you extra points, if you say something it in his boring style.emphasis on boring
Taking this class i thought it was going to be easy. He is a very tough grader if you don't know the material good thing is you can always go back. Test were always multiple choice with 2 essay questions at the end. If taking his class try to take your time on the essay questions to make it perfect because he's picky. I really do not recommend...
The whole course revolves on 6 essay questions total, your whole grade depends you write an essay. Don't take this professor. Boring lectures that do not match the test at all.
If you can write essays, this class is easy. It's a non-science major class, we never went too in-depth into topics. The essays weren't too demanding, but it is good to be thorough. If you struggle w/ essays, this class will likely burn you. Tests=take home, HW assignments=easy, grp project=easy-worth 2 test grades. B or higher=exempt from final.
No, absolutely not. Taking this class was a huge mistake and a big waste of time.
This is the single worst teacher I've ever had the displeasure of studying under. It was uniquely disrespectful to be spoken to like a third grader who had never heard of the word "Biology" before. He is infuriating to listen to, a dreadful lecturer, and some how managed to make the class more awkward than 8th grade sex ed. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Professor E.'s class is a mixed bag. Lectures can be dry, but the content is manageable if you stay on top of readings and assignments. Unstuckstudy proved helpful for essay prep. Overall, it's doable with effort, but not the most engaging experience.
He is very good at teaching the topic at hand, he uses a lot of examples to help you understand the topic. He is however a very hard grader as he often asks for super specific answers on the test and he will take off a lot of points if you are not detailed enough.
