He's GREAT Teacher. He knows what he's teaching. He doesn't seem that funny but he makes a few jokes and mistakes during class which makes everyone laugh. Do the work and you'll have no problem

OVERALL HE IS A GOOD PROF. HE EXPLAINS THINGS OVER&OVER AGAIN TILL EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS IT.HE GIVES HOMEWORK ONCE A WEEK BUT ITS NOT HARD AT ALL.SOMETIMES HE GIVES YOU THE WRONG ANSWER OR IF HE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND HIS OWN WORK HE ASK THE CLASS FOR HELP(WHICH IS A LITTLE FUNNY)JUST MAKE SURE YOU DO ALL HIS HOMEWORK B/C IT CAN BRING YOUR GRADE DOWN AL
He is the best professor Ever.He is extreamley nice, funny, and kind. He is very helpful and understanding. You would not regert taking his course. He gives us plenty of time and explain things step by step.
He's very funny and sometimes he looks like he's lost which is hilarious. He's an easy grader too.
He's A GREAT Teacher. He knows what he's teaching. He makes a few jokes and mistakes during class which makes everyone laugh. Do the work and you'll have no problem!
All you have to do is pay attention and ask questions. Homework is important. Strict on grading, but gives generous points. I would take him again
Professor Olivo gave all ten graded homework assignments on Webassign.com (cost about $60) Out of the three exams one of them was a take home. the final was a department final and was very hard multiple choice. Take him if you want a slow paced professor ready to answer and explain to you what you don't understand.
really really really nice guy and will do anything to help anyone. he does make the class impossible to fail. do your homework because it counts A LOT 3 tests one take home and the last one he gave us the questions the night before to practice. not the best at explaining or showing how to do things but overall the class was worth it gotan A newnoth
great professor, is clear & will ALWAYS help you improve your grade! easy hw's, 3 exams one take home, replies to e-mails quick & makes math make sense, no way you can fail, TAKE HIM!
Very Easy to Pass. Just do what is told and you will do well on exams.
He makes math easy to understand and wants all of his students to do well. I've always struggled with math, yet he managed to make me enjoy Quantitative Reasoning/Stats. Just ALWAYS stay up to date with material and homework because it only helps you and your grade in the end. My grade could have been an A if I did not slack. Definitely recommend!!
Professor Olivo is nice, but he tends to take extremely long on explaining and teaching the lessons we have to learn. Honestly it's boring. No extra credit or make up HW. All HW is online, if it isn't complete he'll destroy your grade. 3 exams are given and there's a final. Do your HW, high grades on exams, and be there. You'll be fine.
Professor Olivo is the best math professor!!! Before that class I hated math, now I love it, because he makes it clear and understandable! If you need to take math class, search for Pr. Olivo, you will not regret! He is awesome!
One of the best Professors at John Jay. Class environment was great and Olivo provided all the help you can ask for. If you need to take a math course, take his classes! A+ Professor
Professor Olivo is the best math professor!!! he is Hilariousssssss, face expressions while teaching always had me laughing. Everything is clear from the first day. Easy A, cheat sheets on all exams including the final. Best math professor ever
His class is extremely easy. He does everything to make sure all his students understand. If you hate math or can't comprehend it, you should definitely take him.
He is a nice guy, but don't know how to really teach. He speaks fast, and don't give time to process the information. If you are not good in math don't even bother to take him. If you are ok with your basic math then take him, you will definately pass his class. unfortunate, I had to drop his class because I did not understand him at all.
I sucked at math all my life an honestly i can't explain how well he's taught me, i understand his lectures. The homework is done online, he gives you a week to do it so deff take him he's amazing !!!
Great professor! I've been awful at math my entire life & although I still hate it, he really gave me what I needed in order to succeed. He takes his time with students and explains everything step by step. His hw & reviews are exactly what is on the test, so study and you will do great. He answers emails & any questions promptly. Would take again.
Prof. Olivo was amazing! He drops the lowest quiz grade which helps tremendously. I've NEVER been good at math so when I passed with a C+ I was elated and disappointed at myself. Because I could've gotten a higher grade if I'd taken the homework more seriously. With that said, don't miss class and DO the homework and you will do fine.
There's a lot of homework every week and if you miss a day, you miss many topics he taught in that day.
Amazing professor! I was always had a hard time in math and he made it easier to understand. 11 WebAssign hw's, 3exams, and 1 final. If you understand his reviews then you will have no problem during the exams. If you need help ask him! He is a great teacher but you have to put your part!
Gives a lot of weekly 15-30 online homework assignments on Aleks, very slow paced but teaches very fast so dont take if your bad at math, boring lectures and goes off on tangents that dont involve the material, encourages students to drop the class if theyre not doing well, no make up tests and online homework.
I took the course three times with different professors and Aleks hw is self study which is annoying. He doesn't give make up exams but drops the lowest grade. That saved me! His notes are clear but if you are absent even once you will be lost.
Great math professor. Would always try to make sure everyone understood the topics. Also made all homework due on the last day of the semester to give everyone time to complete it. Wish i could take him again next semester for STA250.
Professor Olivo is not the best professor at John Jay, but he's definitely not the worse. If you really need help in math, I suggest you do not take this professor because all he does is gives worksheet at the beginning of class and go over the questions one by one. He doesn't try to reach out to every student to see if they really understand it.
BORING LECTURES ! Teaches things the long way instead of an easier shorter way.
Gives handouts that are great to refer back to. If you miss class, you will be lost. Drops the lowest grade and gives extra credit
This was my first college class ever, olivo was a good professor and gave a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Aleks is also a must if you want to do well in this class, lectures arent boring and but gives a lot of material. Overall he seems to care about helping his students!
One of the best math professors I think. He gives so much extra credit its almost impossible to fail. He is funny to talk to and he loves when people participate. He gives a lot of material for lectures but he goes through everything very clearly and it is really helpful if you don't understand.
Amazing teacher! Looking forward to taking him again. Easy A
I don't know how this professor teaches other classes but if you're taking him for pre-calc, good luck. He is extremely difficult and we're behind schedule so he decided to squeeze everything in the last weeks. For finals, he gives you a class time ( an hour and fifteen minutes) to take the test instead of giving you the 2 hours you needed.
literally the worst professor i have ever had did not help at all don't take
Easy A for me! Dont take if youre bad in math.
This was the most difficult class I've ever taken. Be prepared if you take him. LOTS of extra credit. 3 exams, drops the lowest. If you're absent or late, you'll be clueless.
OMG, the best professor ever!! So much extra credit its impossible to fail. He helps you during office hours when youre stuck. Highly recommended!!
Professor Olivio did the impossible, he made math easy to learn and remember, while making sure his lectures werent boring. He makes sure his students understand the lectures, he gives tons of extra credit to make sure his students pass, along with review sheets to study for his exams.
I took this course in fall. He is such an amazing professor! Explains everything so well without being boring. Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and clear notes. Study your notes and you'll pass everything! Online homework, but it's pretty simple. EASY A. Taking him again! If you don't understand math, take him! He's straight forward.
difficult class... gets too distracted and loses track of time.. if you are good in math take him
If youre bad at math, please dont take his classes. He really doesnt even know what hes teaching. He would ask us if he was right, as if we knew. Also, he gave us an exam before our final.
Professor is a nice person. He tries his best but Math is not my strong side so I think it also depends on you...I am sure he is not a bad choice.
As a student whose really not good at math and whose not a good test taker, he's actually a great professor. He's nice and funny and pretty understanding. Extra credit is always available, and it's really easy extra credit that can boost up your grades. HW is based off of Aleks and there was no quiz. I would definitely take him again!
He gives lots of extra credit. One way to easy get points towards tests are writing answers on the board and explaining them. He gives 3 tests and 1 final. Do all of the check points on aleks and you'll be fine. I recommend him!
Great and funny professor.
He gives a lot of quizzes. He goes in depth on the topic, although he's very repetitive at times I found it easier to remember for tests. This class was so much easier than I thought, he drops your lowest test grade and two quiz grades. I came into this class familiar with pre-calc but I think he'd be great for someone with little knowledge.
Aleks is a must so we had to do that and pay for it. He does give a lot of test and they are on Aleks but before every test there is a review sheet and answers. Everything on the review sheet and what he teaches is on the test. He goes in-depth with every question so you can understand. I am terrible at math but found it easy in his class.
Professor Olivo is probably a great guy, but the program the math department uses at John Jay is a joke and he makes it worse. ALEKS does a terrible job teaching material, and Prof Olivo was always behind in lectures because he focuses on the easy things until theres no time for the hard stuff. Im passing, but only because Im decent at math.
He is not an understanding professor, especially during this time. You cant email him, you have to post your questions to Blackboard where everyone sees it. He does not drop the lowest test grade. Would not recommend taking this class if youre not strong in math
He didn't watch us for any of the exams so it was an easy A. Still waiting for my grade..
Took this class in the fall of 2020. Cause of the pandemic we were completely online making the class 100x easier. The lectures were really boring but I also slept through most of them. Attendance matters and he marks you late after 5 minutes. Everything was on Aleks, 4 tests and a final, as well as weekly HW. Pretty much a self-study class, easy A
His lectures go by slowly so if you have a hard time with math, he's a good prof to take! If you don't understand something, Aleks always reteaches it to you. Textbook is mandatory since you need the code for Aleks. Aleks+final is what makes up your grade. He marks attendance. Easy A if you understand the content, really a self-study class.
Olivo had us buy the textbook, but I didn't look at it at all. Ask if you have the option to buy your ALEKS (the homework/test platform) bundle without the text. As long as you pay attention in the class, and stay on top of your hw, you should do well. ALEKS records you while taking the test and uses your mic, so make sure you have a quiet space.
Professor Olivo was a good professor, however a bit boring and monotone. The class was not hard for me because I already knew most of the material. The work load itself was not much as long as you keep up with it. There were only about 5 tests and he taught you what you needed. He also was easy to communicate with and offered help if needed.
This class was pretty straightforward. All the work was on Aleks; 4 exams, a final, and Aleks homework problems. I had him for an 8 am class so I slept through most of them but he does a good job at breaking down the work for people who need the extra help, however, his lectures are pretty boring.
You're literally only teaching yourself for this class. He doesn't teach, he makes you learn the homeworks on ALEKS and you present them to him during class. He asks a lot of questions and when you don't understand a homework he blames you for not understanding ALEKS. Basically just do ALEKS and exams are with camera on.
If I could give him a zero on here, I would. It was all student presentations and would interrogate you on your topic and if you couldn't respond within a couple of seconds he got impatient. Seemed like he did not know the topics that well and was very disorganized and uninterested in teaching.
Would give 0 if I can. No lectures because he doesnt feel the need to repeat things that are already on YouTube. He is disrespectful and will pick on you for every little unnecessary thing on your presentations.
Being mixed-sync we only meet once a week. We are learning from each other basically, but he asks questions to see if we understand. Class is too easy to fail.
Easy A for me. I enjoyed this class. lots of self study but he there if you need him. Do not take him though if your bad in math
Professor Olivo didn't teach until a student brought it to his attention, he barely taught us since he directed us to the math department. He also didn't want to teach since YouTube has all the answers. He tends to criticize students presentations since he thinks we should know aleks at the back of our hand. I don't recommend this professor at all.
He gives 3 exams and drops the lowest. Homework was easy and lots of extra credit.
Find another professor, he didn't teach us anything until the end of the semester. He expects you to learn everything on Aleks and teach yourself. Theres 2 presentations that you must make and 3 Exams and 1 Final.
Horrible experience with this professor, he would stress you out and would not teach you anything. There are no lectures or anything! You basically just learn it yourself and teach the students in your class, however the exams are before the presentations, so there are not enough learning time to understand all the topics and I felt rushed
He will make you do presentation and journal entry for a math class and than proceed to grade you harshly on it. Doesnt teach either, instead we present math question.
He records the lectures and explains things well. Assignments and due dates are made clear. He is a very fair grader.
Knows his math. Had trouble at the start, but was able to get it after reading the book and looking at his videos.
he expects you to teach yourself and when presenting, he is so harsh. doesn't crack one smile everyone is so intimidated its so frustrating. do not take him
For this class your basically teaching yourself as long a you follow Aleks ( which is $90) and his lecture videos ur fine. He doesnt really teach just shows u how to do the problem and youll catch up. Hes a fun professor cracks corny jokes here and there.
Professor Olivo barely gave any practice for tests, homework was often long and did not help expand on the lesson, just telling you you were wrong without any rhyme or reason. After the first test many students did not do well, and he ended up emailing the class instructing any struggling student to look into dropping the course. Avoid!!!
Professor Olivo was great, I was able to understand perfectly which was surprising because I took him in the summer which went by pretty quick. He made sure the class was on track and that we all understood the material and if we didn't understand he'd take the time to stay back extra if needed. I would definitely recommend taking him.
He's a chill prof. Grade mostly depends on ALEKS homework but there are 3 exams and one final. Easy class if you pay attention and do your work. Just be respectful and he'll respect you back.
Prod Olivo is very nice. He's one of the best professors in the math department and clearly teaches what you need to know for the tests. Just get ready to be on top of your ALEKS work. The more ALEKS you do, the easier the course will be for you. He's awkward but it's funny. This class is very participation heavy so be ready to speak.
I'm a freshman at college and this was the only math class i took, the professor is fine he usually gives really long homework assignments on Aleks. Most of the HW on Aleks is not even taught to us in class. Which is really frustrating, he doesn't offer test corrections, but offers extra credit for the end of the semester. He's teaching needs work.
Absolutely terrible. He can do his job and teach the subject but when it comes to any sort of accommodations his advice is to drop the course without thinking about how that might affect you. He treats his class as if he is teaching everyone how the "real world " works. Don't recommend taking his class.
Pretty good! Would totally have again if possible!
Professor Olivo isn't a hard teacher if you do your work and are respectful. The main work in the class is Aleks homework, other than that there are three exams and one final. He does give opportunities for extra credit. Attendance and participation are mandatory for the class. Overall he is a very nice teacher, and I would take him again!
Attendance is none negotiable however the professor does a good job of teaching the course. Attend the classes, take notes, and you'll pass.
Attendance and participation matter and factor into your grade. There are only a few things we are graded on, so prioritize studying, practice using the review sheets and ALEKS, and actively listening during lecture.
This professor for math 108 was super nice! there is a lot of homework at times but nothing out of the ordinary. I would recommend to take his class, he teaches very well and its easy to understand. He goes back and tries to explain so you can understand. I would take his class again!
This professor is overall a great person. Attendance is highly important because he takes off points if absent and participation is also important. Everyday will be a new lesson and it was kinda hard taking so much information and having to remember and learn all of it at the same time.
This might be the first math class I seem to do good in. He provides study sheets for exams that are really helpful, and overall if you can choose a math class with him as the professor then do it !
He is an amazing teacher. Do your homework, show up to class, participate, and you can easily pass the class.
As long as you show up, do the work, and do your homework, you should pass with ease.
you need to show up to each class because it moves so fast and you can pass even if you bad on tests because attendance is graded heavily
Olivo is a very solid professor, tough grader but gives many extra credit opportunities. All you need is to pay attention and do your homework then its a pass. Very funny and caring dude and all I did was sit in the back of class and listen, he also listens to your problems and is interested into your personal life in a respectful way, amazing Guy
Very easy class, just show up and do the homework.
This professor is very straight forward he tells you what you need to do in order to pass the class from the beginning to throughout the end of the semester as a reminder. So as long as you do the work you should be passing, there is a lot of homework but they really do help keeping up with what is being taught in class. He's awkward but its funny.
This professor is very straight to the point he tells you what you need to do in order to pass the class from the beginning to the end of the semester as a reminder. You will be fine as long as you do all the work which really isn't much, the homework is a lot but you get a whole week for every homework. It also helps you keep with the class.
He really is passionate about helping his students understand the curriculum of what he is teaching. As well he does recitation before exams, just to prepare you for your exams. He a professor that wants to see you actually pass.
He really is desire to help his students understand the curriculum of what he is teaching. As well he does recitation before exams, just to prepare you for your exams. He a professor that wants to see you actually pass.
Lots of homework, materials aren't hard to understand if you pay attention - lots of notes and no laptops, only paper or ipads. Attendance is mandatory and you can't be late or locked out, he can be repetitive at times if there are too many distractions in the room. Uses an online textbook, Overall not a hard teacher just do your work.
He can be monotone and slightly unaccommodating to students sometimes but he goes into depth with the lessons. Participation and attendance matters greatly.
As a first time college student, grasping concepts was easy as he goes into depth with his lectures. can sometimes give life lessons but overall lectures are clear. He is precise in how he delivers information and even gives handouts with even clearer instructions. As long as you do your work and pay attention to will pass. participation matters.
Overall, Professor Olivo was a Great first Professor. his clear way of explaining mathematical concepts and explaining are very clear. you will easily understand concepts if you just pay attention. He even provides handouts so not everything is writing. he makes sure you understand the material. Its easy if you pay attention thats it.
Overall Professor Olivo knows exactly what he is teaching. He always tries to help us understand the work we have for that week. If anyone has any questions he is more then happy to answer them. He can be kind awkward but in a funny way. He uses his time wisely when teaching. Most importantly he doesn't like people being late or talk during class.
This professor is very strict on what time you come into the class, attendance, and participation are part of your grade so participate if you can. Alek homework is mandatory it also takes up a good portion of your grade. If you don't understand what's going on it's best you get help at the beginning and not wait closer to the final.
Lots of homework - lots of notes and no laptops, only paper or ipads. Attendance is mandatory and you can't be late or locked out. Grades tough and Aleks homework is every week. Not hard just pay attention in class and do your work to keep up with his assignments.
Very watching and very straight forward about the work and grading criteria.
Professor Olivo teaches the class which is efficient and its important to participate. Aleks hw and attendence is really important as they are graded heavilingly during the semester along with 3 exams. His explanationa are pretty clear but could be boring at times. Do your work and come to class and youll be fine.
Mr. Olivo is great, he listens to his students and teaches a pace they are comfortable with. He will always try to incorporate the feedback he is given. Pretty funny guy and is always very kind and understanding, highly recommend.
Great teacher gives chances to get extra credit to pass. Make sure you do your homework overall easy class.
He is pretty strict with attendance.
He wants to make sure all his students understand the work.
The class isn't hard, but the professor does work fast and you have to stay focused or you'll be lost. Homework is a big piece of your grade so you'll just have to make sure its done.
I took this during the winter semester and was allowed to study outside of class (only exam days are mandatory for attendance). Professor was nice, understanding and patient. He always answered my emails. Formulas are given with the tests (at least mostly) and problems are mostly the same (some might be a bit more but solving them is the same).
Easily distracted. Talks about off subject things distracting class along with him. Repeats things multiple times within one class period. Keeps you after class time and if you leave earlier you'll get 1% off each time. Doesn't properly answer questions just moves around or restates it.
He makes stats seem much easier than it actually is. He always gives out fill in the blank handouts that you can reread and study for. But his attendance/cellphone policy is brutal. Never come to class late and never have your cellphone out in class as he lowers your grade everytime you do those things.
Test heavy
that this professor is good and will teach you excactly the course for any upcoming test and is very soft on the ales hw but ales is mostly you grade for the class .
Good professor- gives good examples to explain the material. ALEKS homework requirement is a bit much, but i can personally attest that it helps your understanding of the material and results in a higher grade. He's funny but can tend to get sidetracked, students can get rowdy, snarky and distract the class and he humors this.
He's quite nice and teaches well.
I thought the way my professors personality was throughout the class made it easier and lighter, it helped take away from the stress of the course in general. I do think that his teaching is a bit confusing tho I found myself at times puzzled.
Professor Olivo is excellent in his Department, but his class is more like a lecture where you just sit and get lost sometimes since he tends to lose his place in the work. He understands about not understanding the job; he will help if you do not know how to solve some problems so he'll recommend you go to the math center.
As a student who had this professor for multiple courses, such as MAT 108 and STAT 250, I can honestly say I wouldn't have understand the subjects of both classes without choosing this professor. Olivio will walk you through subjects that are needed for homework and exams as well as discuss about subjects that can prepare you for the exams.
Very fun class only downside is ALEKS homework which you are required to spend $100 on and need 30 hours of for the whole semester.
This professor is clear when it comes to the work we go over in class however, I feel like we need more preparation before exams because it feels like I'm cramming to memorize information a few days before a test. Also, I think that doing ALEKS/the HW format should also be used for tests since it's easy to work.
This class is easy if you put the effort into staying focused and practicing the content. He is pretty strict about attendance and cellphone use in class, so keep that in mind.
ALEKS is the worst but overall, the professor does a good job at explaining material. If you pay attention and ask questions during class, the class is going to be very easy. Review for exams are also extremely helpful
need to show up to class and take notes ! cant use phone in class and good amount of homework.
nice professor
This professor teaches the harder way to get your answer first ( welling my opinion), so be prepared to ask for a simpler way to get an answer. He does give many examples and makes you work until you're sure of what to do. He doesn't penalize for attendance, just don't been your phone too much.
Jose is a very chill proffesor
The Professor is a good teacher and clearly shows interest in the students learning and offers help when needed.
He's a cool teacher but the way he explains the question is not good. Go to tutoring sessions so you can actually understand!
This class was quite easy for me as I enjoyed how the profesor taught giving a few different examples of the type of problem. He is very approachable and made a good class atmosphere. Has a very strict late and cellphone policy. Also have to complete 5 hours of ALEKS a week.
he's great
He is super understanding and caring towards the work that he does, he made me understand statistics and made me enjoy math which was never possible before so for that i am glad. He makes lessons fun and explains everything thoroughly.
He is a very attentive professor who puts in time with the math work that he is lecturing on, he gives extra credit for exams and he is very easy going and makes math fun.
Depends on what you are going to study hard or not
Professor allows for too much time between problems and then complains about us being behind. Is helpful when you ask questions, you can tell he wants everyone to pass the course and will help you get there. Will sometimes teach problems a way that is indirect or dumb instead of just using the formula.
Professor Olivo is passionate about teaching this challenging course. He thoroughly reviews the material to ensure that everyone understands it, even though covering multiple topics at once can be confusing. I wish we could work on more review worksheets in class instead of just the day before the exam.
He's side tracks a lot during the lessons and will bring up unnecessary stuff into the lessons as well but other than that his class is super easy and the HW truly is a huge part of the grade
Good professor, talks a lot during class
He's a well-rounded professor, and the class progressively becomes difficult. You should not miss a day.
I recommend taking Professor Olivo. He is funny and caring towards his students. He rather you be absent than late, so definitely take that into consideration. Provides printed worksheets for each chapter and uploads notes if you email him.
Aleks homework and labs that you have to keep track of. Two exams and one final I believe, finals you have to pass or you retake, that's for any math class. He also said he doesn't take points away for being absent because he rather you be absent then late and disrupt the class.
Professor Olivo was a great Stats 250 professor to have, his lectures are easy and he focuses on the feedback of students to ensure that we are effectively learning. He gives extra credit that will help you and has office hours to get extra help. I'm not a great math student but Professor Olivo really helped me learn this semester.
nice Prosser but his teaching style was hard to understand!!!
Good professor but his teaching style was hard to understand
He was a good professor, but his teaching style was hard to understand.
Some of the things that teh professor does that i like is the relatability to the real world. I think that in this class there is a lot more cases where i see that the math actually relates to stuff that can happen in real life.
The professor's relatability to the actual world is one of the things that I enjoy about them. I believe that there are a lot more instances in this class when I can see how the math truly connects to real-world situations.
This professor was a great professor who has helped me understand this subject of STAT 250 although this course was difficult he helped us learned new strategies and tell us questions that were going to be on the exams
Professor Olivo is an excellent instructor, but he should remove the lateness clause and treat it as an absence instead. His humor and charisma enhance the class. Additionally, offering tutoring sessions outside of community hours would help students with jobs who cannot attend during those times.
Professor Olivo would rather you miss class than come late as it disrupts his class time. He reads straight from the handouts, which is fine, but can get boring fast. He's funny and really tries to connect with his students.
Professor is nice and good at teaching the material. He is willing to help out. Don't miss class because if you do you will fall behind but if you don't you will be fine. Aleks hw, 3 tests including midterm and final, and one in person lab super easy. A little mellow but other than that he is good.
First year at John Jay and for somebody that graduated high school like 8 years ago and has forgotten all this stuff, he's very clear and makes difficult problems look more easy and I likes the examples he gives. He makes sure you actually understand what he's saying , he doesn't waste time so I like that his classes are very straight forward.
Really nice and caring teacher who wants to see his students succeed and do good. Gave extra credit opportunities as well. If you can take him, take him!
He's pretty good, effortlessly funny but you need to lock in for the Aleks homework but overall pretty chill professor, lateness and phones not accepted tho, for your grades will suffer.
Overall , this professor is pretty good , super chill just do all homework on time and you should be good.
Very Chill, funny and nice professor. Stay focused on the course and it'll be somewhat light. I would only criticize the ALEKS HW b/c the AI system can be annoying, and the HW can be forgetful, and that it feels like we have to cram before exams. Exams are a big part of the class, which is 70% of ur grade. Recitations are helpful.
The professor overall teaches the class well, has good communication, and offers extra credit opportunities. He doesn't require excessive work, so as long as you do the homework assignments due every week you should be fine. Professor does not care too much for absences, but does care about lateness. He rather you not show up than show up late.
Prof. Olivo is an amazing instructor who does exactly what he has to do for you to be successful. That being said, it is still a math class, and you must do your part to ensure you don't get left behind, like practicing at home, paying attention in class, and participating. If you can take Prof. Olivo's class, do it!
Professor Olivo is kind, understanding, and a little talkative. He will do his best to accommodate and provide extra credit. Attendance is weird; he said he prefers absences to coming late to class (using tutoring to make up work). You need to purchase ALEK (online textbook). The material itself can be difficult, but he does his best to clarify.
Overall, he's a great professor who cares about the course he is teaching. He is funny and tries to interact with the students constantly to keep us engaged with the topics. He grades heavily on Aleks so make sure to keep up with the homework assignments. He explains things easily and will constantly review a topic if we don't understand.
He's very nice and funny. Cares about you doing well in his class. Sometimes if you participate he gives extra credit just for that.
He is super sweet and very nice just don't be late or use your phone or he will doc points
Overall good professor
This professor's abilities to teach new or old materials was great, however, due to the heavy load of participation, it led to a few topics being rushed or topics being evaluated in a effective manner. Professor Olivo did give everyone many ways to ask for questions but it was based on multiple student input.
Easy professor, shows he cares about our learning. Overall this class was not difficult at all.
Professor Olivio makes it clear they want their students to succeed. The class was graded based on 2 tests, one final, and ALEKS homework and labs. ALEKS assignments are a big part of the grade, so make sure to keep on top of it. The class is unplugged, so no phones are allowed. Professor explains things multiple times, and listens to feedback.
Have to stay onto of work other then that great professor!!
Very good professor a lot of homework and need too do well on test
i Didnt like this professor so much, he get distract so easily.
He is a good professor his explanations aren't bad and if there is any need for clarification he is willing to give more examples until the solving method is understandable, asks questions, and tries to get answers from students to see if the subject at hand is understood or not.
I did actually learn from Professor Olivo, he explains things well and offers assistance to students who need it. Easy class to take for credit towards math requirement.
Professor Olivo was a great professor! Very encouraging when it comes to students participating!
Overall a great professor.
Good teacher, very Aleks oriented so be prepared for that, he also engages with the students well and very often
He is a very good teacher who doesn't waste time and gets ready to teach.
Professor Olivo was a great math professor. He is very patient. He truly cares if we understand a topic we are learning. I would definitely take him as a professor again!
He is a very kind professor. He makes an effort to always make sure we understand. The material can be difficult at times, but he always asks if we need help or more examples. My one request would be that he spend more time with review for exams.
overall he is a good professor, the math department is just a little hard when it comes to the tests but Professor Olivo makes sure that you understand the topic first before jumping to the next question or topic.
He is a nice profesor. All the homework is done on Aleks so be prepared for that. The material taught in class can be difficult at times but he tries to do his best at giving multiple examples. Also your grade depends on the tests taken during class.
Professor Olivo is super nice and caring. The homework load is pretty heavy but he has really good lectures. He cares about his students understanding the material which is a plus and he is good at answering any questions you have. Attendance is mandatory for this class but he's a fun teacher and funny so it's a class you can look forward to.
He is very kind and understanding professor, all his classes are lecture style and he makes sure you understand what he is teaching before moving on.
Professor Olivo is a good professor; he clearly cares for his students and wants what's best for them. But he does get a bit sidetracked when students ask him questions, which unfortunately caused my class to be a little behind schedule. But overall, Professor Olivo is a good professor and I'm glad I took him for this semester.
Sometimes he gets sidetracked and doesn't focus on the task at hand.
Sometimes gets distracted easily.
didnt like, get distract so easy
Honestly he made the material easy to learn when he was focused, he can get sidetracked easily sometimes but he did tell us in the beginning of the semester that he was working on that. He can be funny and he looks like he genuinely cares he's just a little socially awkward but overall good guy you do have to go out of your way to ask questions
This professor doesn't make attendance mandatory. Although, with this specific course it might as well be because of you miss one class you will find yourself really behind and struggling to understand what's going on in the next lecture.
Requires extra review outside of class to fully succeed, but easily navigational.
requires further studying and review outside of class but easy besides that
The professor hates lateness and students using their cell phones a lot. He mixes math with ELA, which is very confusing.
Professor Olivo's class has a lot of work, but he wants students to succeed. Attending class and completing the ALEKS homework are key. I found Unstuck AI helpful for quick review before exams.
Prof. Olivo is an understanding instructor who does his best to make sure his students are caught up. One warning for future students is to make sure to be on time, lateness is graded more harshly than absences.
Professor Olivo does a great job of explaining and summarizing statistical concepts. He offers up to 20 points in extra credit. He gives quizzes in class, but tells everyone what to study specifically. Within Aleks, he attaches supplemental, simple videos about the topics in class and mini exams. He is helpful and funny in class. Great professor.
He clearly cares about student success and knows this class is a requirement for most. He keeps it simple, as long as you're good at following directions and you go to class you'll do well. Be aware you'll have to purchase a homework program, which is a bit expensive.
Caring Professor with a sense of humor, ALEKS program is very expensive but it's not the professor's fault. If you can follow instruction, do the homework, and don't miss assignments, you should be fine. I personally got less than an A because of my own study habits, not because the professor was particularly difficult or unfair.
Professor Olivo does a great job of breaking down difficult concepts into manageable parts. Participation and attendance are important if you want to stay on track or ahead in the course. Although it's an in person class class, ALEKS plays a big role—so if you don't understand something, make sure to use ALEKS and don't hesitate to ask questions.
Super nice professor who is always willing to help. The ALEKS assignments aren't great, but they're an easy way to boost your grade if you stay on top of them. Three exams, including the final and a few chapter quizzes. Overall, Professor Olivo is a good professor and the workload is fairly manageable.
Great and clear lectures. Always clarifies if you don't understand something. Doesn't make you feel bad if you don't know something and goes over it with you patiently. Very respectful!
Professor Olivo has a strict quiz rule where he only offers it in the first 5 minutes of class and does not allow make-ups if missed/arrive late. I found this to be a problem because public transportation is not reliable and can easily make you late. He does drop 2 quizzes at the end of the semester, but it's still a loss of potential points.
He is super clear with grading. Attendance does matter; there is a textbook. He is very attentive.
Professor Olivo is a great professor! He explains problems clearly step by step, reviews study sheets thoroughly, a lot, a lot of papers and even offers extra credit to help boost your grade. His sense of humor makes the class more enjoyable and less stressful. Thank you, Professor Olivo! :)
He's a great professor, this is the second time i'm taking one of his course's and he has not disappointed. he's very descriptive in the things he's explaining and lets us practice a lot. partner work is only for checking work or even getting help before coming together for lectures again but overall very chill. must attend class though.
he's an amazing professor, he's attentive with any questions and explains things multiple times if needed. he give you a lot of time in class in order to complete worksheets and get your practice in as well. attendance is mandatory and very much needed, if you don't go you're going to be confused. huge on test, they take up a lot of your grade.
Professor Olivo was very informative and patient with his students. His grading style is fair and he gives extra credit if you need
Prof. Olivo is a great professor. He went through all of the topics thoroughly and made statistics understandable. He gives ample time to complete the online homeworks and communicates about tests/quizzes much in advance. He provides opportunities for extra credit and is very approachable and funny! I would definitely take another class with him.
I thought I was going to fail because I'm terrible at math, but now I can say that I am so happy to have chosen him as my professor. He has two exams, 6 quizzes, homework on ALEKS, and the final exam. It might seem too much to do, but it really prepares you for the exams. He's funny and provides extra credit. He's a great professor! Take him!
prof olivo is amazing and has really helped me understand math better. he's very knowledgeable and explains concepts clearly. However, he is a bit strict when it comes to attendance and tests, mainly because missing even one class can leave you feeling lost the next time you show up. overall he is a good professor.
Professor Olivo is reliable to his students. He takes the time to answer questions after topics to ensure everyone understands before moving on. The professor also ensures that student emails are responded to quickly. He also encourages students to attend office hours or any other tutoring help.
Clear worksheets and straightforward workload, classes can be a bit dull, but the material isn't too difficult, and he's friendly
This professor is very funny and entertaining at times during his lectures. Regarding his work, it can be a little difficult if you struggle with math. I will say, if you pay attention and try, there is a possibility you can pass. He is also good at communicating.
Prof. Olivia is funny and tries to apply all of his lectures to the real world. He is relatable and sometimes it feels like he's learning with us. He gives a lot of quizzes and will drop 2 of your lowest, a lot of work on Alex, and uses a lot of worksheets for class work.
He's a very chill professor, if you keep up with the online homework you'll be fine. There were a lot of quizzes but they were short.
He's a very chill professor, if you keep up with the online homework you'll be fine. There were a lot of quizzes in my stats class but they each only took 5 mins.
Good professor! He gives quizzes based off the notes and drops the lowest quiz grade. Theres only two major exams (besides the final) and he provides extra credit if you complete his evaluation and attend tutoring sessions. The assigned homework/practice exams on ALEKS are crucial and helpful!
Professor Olivo is a great professor. He's very chill and understanding. Participation and attendance are a must, and as long as you complete your work on time and try your very best, you'll do well.
-Need to purchase ALEKS; keep up with the assignments/practice exams (especially if you miss a class!) -Follows the syllabus: quiz every other week, 3 exams, midterm, final--lowest quiz(zes) dropped. -Provides handouts each class + further elaborates material -Options for extra credit! -He's really understanding & wants his students to succeed
i think the prof have a great way of teaching students. He gives great examples during lessons
In all honesty, I think he's a great professor I do recommend taking him. You will learn a lot from his lectures and handouts which I found so helpful it made me understand so much more with the homework, quizzes, and exams. I would definitely take one of his courses again!
He's a very good professor and makes the lessons understandable. He also provides extra credit and answers any questions you may have.
Professor Olivo is helpful and tries to accommodate all students.
Professor Olivo is a great professor he likes to take the time to know if the whole class understands whats going on. Truly the only way to fail is not to listen during his lectures. The man gives packets of the module with amazing notes and great detail to work. This man does care about his students which is amazing to know.
Professor Olivo gives a clear understanding to the course and makes it easy for students to understand and catch up. I do recommend to always take notes to make sure all the information stays in your head. Overall great professor.
Professor Olivo made stats 250 easy! He actually broke down every topic to make sure students understood.Handouts are given for every topic being taught and gives extra tips on how to complete equations. There are quizzes given with only a few questions that are very helpful to grasp the material. Best professor I've had at John Jay!
Took this course for Statistics 250. I would recommend it to anyone! The professor is very organized with lessons and also genuinely cares for the students. He offers numerous opportunities for extra credit. He teaches his lessons very effectively and easy to follow.
he's a great professor. He's organized with his lessons and genuinely cares about his students learning. He makes sure the class understands the material before moving on. The only thing is sometimes there's a lot of information given at once, which can feel overwhelming. But overall he's an excellent instructor and I definitely recommend his class!
Overall he isn't a bad professor, his lecture are pretty straight forward. He doesn't mind helping and he goes around the class providing assistance. He gives extra credit if you go to tutoring and the recitations before exams. he gives you all the handouts, you will receive up to 2-3 handouts for the week or so (handout heavy).
Overall 5/10. Not much enthusiasm for the material. Very kind, but there are other professors at the college who take more time to break down the material and make sure you have an understanding of the material. The course feels rushed and is handout heavy.
Overall 5/10
Really clear, approachable, and great at breaking down tough topics. Makes stats way less intimidating and actually understandable. Super helpful and always open to questions. Highly recommend!
His quizzes aren't that bad. Try to always study at least a week before the exams and you'll be fine. Also, try not to skip class, or you'll be seriously messed up with the material when you return.
Professor Olivo made learning about statistics easy. Every topic had a worksheet that you would fill out during class and then use to review for quizzes and exams. We would have quizzes every other week and 3 exams (including the final) with lots of extra credit opportunities. If he taught any other classes I would choose him again.
The lectures were easy to follow and understand. A total of 6 quizzes and 3 exams with extra credit options if you went to MSRC tutoring. Professor Olivo made statistics and easy topic to learn. He prefers to give handouts over submitting work online and having students on computers and iPads during class.
Great professor, uses in-class work to help us understand the quizzes, homework, and exams. He offers extra credit opportunities, and answers students questions and help us understand the material better wherever we're confused.
His lectures are rather simple, and he isn't a horrible professor overall. He helps out throughout the classroom since he doesn't mind. If you attend tutoring and the recitations before to tests, you will receive extra credit from him. Over a week or so, you will receive up to two or three handouts (handout-heavy) from him.
He is an amazing professor that knows how to teach well since he was a tutor. Would recommend but beware of the quizzes (they are easy is you understand)
Tough material but professor Olivo makes its manageable. He explain concepts clearly and make complicated topics easier to understand. The class is organized, and assignments are fair.
One thing that I will say about stats is don't miss a class or you will fall behind. This course was very easy if you attend each class and do the work. Professor Olivo mostly follows along with handouts and there is no textbook needed. I would definitely recommend him as a professor.
This professor Jose Olivio is a great professor, he gives extra credit, takes time to explain you're confused. Make sure you do the homework ! that matters ! He is also understanding but still firm on his grading !
This professor Jose Olivio is a great professor, he gives extra credit, takes time to explain you're confused. Make sure you do the homework ! that matters ! He is also understanding but still firm on his grading !!
Jose is a caring professor that loves what he does. He works with you as long as you put in effort. This class is “departmentally structured” There are about 8 quizzes, 3 exams, about 15 HW assignments including the labs. All HW is online(Aleks). Be prepared to study and go to tutoring. He offers EC for going to any tutoring session.
This class was fairly simple, as long as you do the homework assigned and are able to stay on top with the material given! He offers help and office hours if students need further understanding of the material given out that day. He gets a little off track but it is only for like a min or two and then he gets back to the lesson. I highly reccomend!
