He is a good professor overall. He is very temperamental about cell phone use. good lectures, usually around a hour. Week before finals he canceled both classes. He could have used that time to review everything in detail. He wants you to pass, I know I listed a lot of negatives but he is a great professor.
The teacher was very fun & the class was very interesting. No textbook, only online articles. We had two papers due and a final. The final was really easy, but I was very stressed about it bc there was no study guide or preperation. I also feel like what he taught was not fully Amercian cultures, it was more his college/ life recap.
Interesting class. There's lots of reading. The articles come from everywhere. Some classes are lectures. Some classes are group work. He goes over what will be on the exam. There are no surprises. Attendance is mandatory.
One of the most passionate teachers I've encountered at the JC. You can tell that he's really into his work and his ideas. Sometimes, it's challenging to keep up. You have to read. He really likes it if you come to office hours and it was helpful when he explained things in person. He expects you to work. In the end, it's worth it.
The class I took was different from a lot of other classes that I have taken. The materials are different and his understanding of them is different. I felt challenged and smarter, like I was in a four yr college course. It was tough but fun and useful. I'm definitely better prepared for other JC classes.
A really good professor. His class was like cal state class. He has high expectations and you get a lot in return: interesting articles, a new perspective on regular things like music and good comments on projects. Talked to him one on one a few times. Interesting life experiences.
We worked with things I knew like Sex and the City. We worked with things I had only heard about like Freud and Woody Allen. He served us tea and talked. It was a class and an experience. Glad I took it. He opens up your mind to things you didnt know about or had only heard of. His course is like what I imagined college to be.
a very interesting course. he uses movies, tv shows, articles, theory. some of the material's hard. his lectures are helpful and seeing him in office hours helps. hes funny and has interesting ideas i never thought of before. a couple of tests and he gives you preparation before the test. a good class!
A really good thing about the course is that the articles (he doesn't use a textbook) is really eye opening. There also movies and tv shows and music. The tough things: a lot of readings (but he's cut it down a lot) and he wants to know your ideas (no scantrons). This is definitely the most challenging but also the best class I've done at the JC.
One of the best instructors I have taken. Very funny and so passionate about his work. No textbooks. He uses journal articles which can be tough but he explains them well. We watched a couple of movies which helped. Our class had lots of group exercises which also helped me get the articles. You will have a good time learning from him. Nice clothes
What a great class and a great guy! Tbh I was not looking forward to a summer class. His was so great. It was hard (the readings) but he helps you figure it out through his exercises (we got (fake) money for an exercise in capitalism). He's passionate and demands a lot from you. You want to do good work. Wish I took the semester long version.
I loved taking his class, and would take another one in a heartbeat. There is a lot of hard reading, but it is all through articles accessible online- no textbooks. He does a great job of helping his students understand them. Amazing lectures/student participation. I feel like I've learned a lot. Do not pass up taking a class with Dr. Raymundo!
A little bit of a strange course, this instructor is given so much latitude on the material that it can be hard to predict where he's going with it. I'm an A student, but I often got lost in topics and concepts he was discussing, it seems more like the coursework is the instructor's stream of consciousness.
Took course to fill a requirement. Glad I did. Super interesting materials. We did a lot on celebrities. A couple of tests and quizzes and a final. Instructor knew a lot about the materials. Can be very theoretical. Was really helpful talking to him one on one.
Easily one of the best courses I have taken at the JC. It was tough at fist- lots to read and philosophical ideas. His lectures guide you through the ideas. He has interesting ideas and makes you think about new things. Short written assignments and essays in exams.
I really liked Professor Raymondo, in that he was very helpful and willing to discuss anything you may need to go over. There were some movies/shows to watch that were great, the readings were pretty tough, but the test content was ridiculous. It was very specific questions, like numbers or dates, rather than making sure we understood the concepts.
He teaches a college level class. He had college level expectations- you show up, you read the articles, you participate in discussions. A year after leaving the JC and now at a 4 year college, I see how the work in his class more than any other prepared for the amount and intensity of work. He has high standards. Very knowledgeable man.
Awful Professor. He only had 100 points total for the semester. Didn't grade 3 essays for over half of the semester and gives very little actual feedback to work. Tests on small specifics in readings and in movies. examples "9. This is the type of chair Paul tells Ouisa he wants in his apartment." How is one supposed to take notes for that?
Raymundo is a great professor with clear expectations and boundaries. Put in the effort, do the reading, and participate in discussions and you should be fine. My only complaint was with how he wrote the tests. Too often he'd ask about specific and trivial details of readings or movies rather than the concepts.
This was an very good course. It made me think of "popular culture" in a new way. He does not use a textbook but puts articles on line. We had a couple of assignments and a couple of tests. He has new ideas I haven't thought about before. It was worth taking the class for the perspective.
Mr. Raymundo is very interactive with students, and is makes it well known that he's accessible by any means of contact if needed. That being said, the course itself was a bit rocky, the tests are comprised of oddly specific questions about certain passages or movies, but the weekly discussions are easy, just keep up with them and you'll do fine.
Interesting course. Be prepared to do a lot of reading. Quizzes tend to focus on small details that don't pertain to the idea of the article, which I found bizarre. He doesn't give feedback on essays but expects you to improve. A lot of passion but lacks the quality to actually teach. He doesn't give extra credit so you have to give it your all.
Took the online version of this course. Wish I was able to take classroom. He puts materials on Canvas (you dont have to buy a textbook). Weekly discussion boards. A A few tests. He records videos. If you watch them and read and participate in discussions you can do well. Met with him a couple of times after my first test. He was helpful.
Really sensitive and took honesty feed back to heart
Cool guy. Your grade depends entirely on three tests and two 10% assignments though so that makes it difficult. The only homework given is reading articles he sends you and coming to class prepared to discuss. He does not do extra credit. He can be intimidating, but if you participate and show that you're trying, he will be happy to work with you.
Hardest teacher. Your grade depends entirely on how well you do on 3 tests and 2 10% assignments. Doesn't give you feedback if you do poorly on one paper. Doesn't allow you to redo them or give extra credit. Tests focus on trivial information rather than the main concepts taught. Essay prompts aren't too clear. However, articles were interesting.
Lectures are interesting. You have to show up to pass. There's a lot of information and materials. Lots of readings. Topics are interesting and class exercises are interesting too. Reviews tests with the class. Looking back, the class was most like a college course when I transferred to a four year school.
This was a fun course. I learned a lot. Professor introduced me to new books and new ideas. Lots of group projects and group work. He lectures and walks you through ideas. You have to show up and take notes. His tests count for a lot. Tests you on ideas and facts. He was very helpful especially during office meetings.
This was the best class I took at the jc. The course gave me a new way of looking at society. He uses articles and no textbook. He expects you to read and talk in class. We had a few tests and some assignments on canvas. Professor Raymundo was super helpful when I spoke to him one on one. This is a hard but fun course. Totally worth it.
Im very glad i took American humanities with Professor Raymundo. I really felt like I was in college. The articles we had to read were hard but his lectures were very helpful. There were a couple of assignments and he would use questions in class for the test. He emphasized group work and analysis. A very good course and Professor.
The course is hard. He knows his stuff and wants you to work to know it. Professor Raymundo really worked with me. I had some personal problems about halfway in the semester. I talked to him and I was able to submit my assignments. Hes tough and hes caring and professional. I had to rethink what a college course looked like.
Professor Raymundo was the best teacher I have ever had. Genuinely cares about his work and his students, acknowledges the lives of a student outside of class, makes class fun. He even brings snacks! A lot of reading, however he did not ask this class to buy textbooks. In this class participation in and outside of class will make you successful.
Instead of a textbook, assignments are based on movies, shows, and articles. At first I thought it was a great idea, but his test questions do not pertain to any relevant information-- rather small, trivial details. Grade us on information we should be learning, not the name of the barber shop that a character walked past in a movie.
Professor Raymundo is so inspiring and funny. The class hard- literary analysis answers and we focused on archetypes. He explains things well and he gives you the articles. He is so knowledgeable. I wanted to attend class and learn. I only wish it wasnt the summer term: I wanted more. Thank you for the encouragement Professor Raymundo.
This was a fun and educational course. I learned a lot. Professor Raymundo is very knowledgeable and passionate. It was strange at first- he doesnt use a textbook (articles are on Canvas) and he likes group discussions, there's no "homework." But then I got it: it's college. He expects you to work and he's there if you need help. Glad I took it.
I took this for a GE requirement. I'm glad I took it. He knows a lot of stuff and can explain it well. I learned to read more carefully and my writing improved. There were short papers, a few tests and a final exam. We had a group project. His lectures are entertaining and it was really useful to talk to him during office hours. Good course.
It's been a while since I took Professor Raymundo's course but it left a really positive impression of me. It was the first class at the JC where I felt I was in college. At first, I thought it was too hard- all the reading and discussions- then I transferred to a Cal State. The class prepared me well. It is still one of my favorite classes.
This was a great course. TBH I took it in the summer bc I thought it would be easy. It wasn't. It was challenging and I learned a lot. The class vibe was great. Professor Raymundo set a really good tone. We had quizzes, a test and a final group presentation. The materials were super interesting. I miss the class and Professor Raymundo.
His ideas are good, but execution is unrealistic. Had more reading assigned than any of my other 4 classes, & there was basically no homework to show for it. The essay prompts on tests were too much (750-1000 words) on top of multiple choice questions which were a joke (hardly discussed in class) w/a time limit on the test. Fragile ego too yikes!!!
At first I thought it was one of those easy A classes where you can not do the reading and get through fine. Reading is dense and is a must. If you can write a solid essay, you'll be fine. Expect a college level course this is not an easy class. However, it will give you a feel of what a real college level course is like. Strict but fair.
Overall, this class was very difficult. It is relatively straightforward, but it is graded on 2 tests and weekly discussion posts. He gives you the reading material, so you don't really have to purchase much other than a novel and a movie. He is a very tough grader and the tests were on very specific pieces of information not over the general idea.
Even though it's an online course all the projects are group essays, which make up a bulk of the grade. The tests ask for very specific details unrelated to the curriculum. Each week you are required to write 700 words in a class discussion for a single point. Raymundo grades very harshly based on details that are irrelevant to learning the subject
Probably the best course I took at the jc. Agree with the stuff below about taking it cause I thought it would be easy, lots of reading and boundaries and how hes strict but fair. A couple of tests, a couple of quizzes and a group project. One of the few classes at the jc where I felt like I was in real college.
Found the class hard at first. Different from other Jc classes. I spent time with the syllabus and the canvas modules and I spent tons of time reading and doing his handouts. I learned a lot. Useful talking to him.
I really felt like I was out of my league in this class at first. But it got better the more I spent time reading the materials, going to office hours and I also formed a study group with people in my class. There are lots of readings, they're long, a couple of tests and a final group project. I found him approachable and very interesting.
Human 5 with Professor Raymundo was very interesting and a lot of work. He puts materials on Canvas. We had three tests and a final exam. We watched two movies. The class has a bit of group work in class. He was easy to find and talk to after class.
I took the class for a gen Ed credit. I ended up working a lot harder than I thought. On the other hand I learned a lot of interesting ideas. His tests are on Canvas. We had a big group project but no final exam. I noticed he doesnt care about memorization. His class is more talking and ideas.
The readings he gave us are challenging. I got better as the semester went on. It was a lot of hard work. I did ok on the tests- we had a couple and some quizzes. It was really helpful to talk to him. I worked hard and I learned a lot more than I usually do in other class. This was an eye opening experience.
He made time for me which was new from an online class experience. Met with him in his office and talked on the phone during office hours when I couldnt make it to campus. We went over the tests and readings. All were on Canvas and we didnt have to buy it. He knows a lot. I wish I took the classroom version but it was still good.
Wasnt sure what to expect in a humanities course but my councilor said to get it out of the way. This class looked interesting. The discussions were great. We watched a couple of movies and we had two tests. No extra credit but there are evaluations where you grade yourself. Super interesting talking to Professor Raymundo.
At first I was lost. I had to really put in the time. He had organized it well with most everything on canvas like YouTube videos and essays. But its a lot of reading. He explains some ideas in class and then you discuss it. You definitely have to take notes and ask. I climbed up from a D with the first couple of assignments to a B. A lot of work.
I 100per cent earned this grade (just found out I got a B from being a C most of the year ). Challenging class, a lot of readings. Some are intense academic articles. Others are easier (he put some podcasts and movies on the syllabus). We had three tests. We had in class test study sessions. You grade yourself for participation. He knows alot.
Im overall happy with the course. The materials are different from my friend who took it the year before. Theres a lot to read. You have to read or you dont know anything. The class discussions are helpful. I felt better talking to him in a smaller group. He talks really fast but hes excited and wants to tell you stuff. Hard but good class
Took the course in person but had to switch to online cuz of work. Online is harder than the classroom. Materials are pretty much the same but you have to super focused to read. Tests were hard but he gave handouts for the movies and some articles. I really enjoyed his lectures when I was in the classroom. Calling him for office hours really helped
I found tough: the things to read (we had like 3 a week), all the new vocabulary words, taking notes. The things I liked: the tests (we had three and he gave us handouts for some of the articles and movies), the class discussions. I really to do the work. I thought it would be easier because it was for a gened requirement. He was fun to talk to.
This was one of my favorite classes at the JC. The articles were interesting (and free- he put them on Canvas). Tests were a challenge but he does a study session. He gives a lot of time to class discussions. I wasn't used to talking to professors one on one but he encouraged it and I understood the ideas better. Helped me get used to college.
I like this course but it took me a while to get used to. No textbook but he put the materials on Canvas except the movies. The way he organized the course was new to me. I had to really stay on top of readings. I was on campus so I spoke to him a few times. I felt less confused. Hes really passionate about the ideas.
Great class. Really challenging. I really liked the group project in the end. We got to grade ourselves- a self assessment at the start and end of the year and the final group project. He wants you to say why your group gave yourself the grade (he agreed with us). The class discussions were intense and moved really fast. His clothes!
I took this course a couple of years ago. It was with a different teacher then Professor Raymundo took over. Not sure what happened to the other person? The class turned out great. We had to read Kafka and some other writers. There were a bunch of short essays including taking a walk and writing about it. We had two tests I think. Essay for final.
Human 5 with Professor Raymundo was a good challenge. The things we read and watched were new to me and took some getting used to. Lots of independent work like the reading and daily discussions. You have to read. We had a few essays in place of tests. Really good talking to him. He helped me a lot. Thanks professor!
Didnt think Id like a summer class this much,m. Materials are tough and need a lot of your time. Things go extra fast in a short term. Prof was fun and knew a lot. We had lots of group work. No final.
This was a fun course. I learned a lot from Professor Raymundo. Our class was really active in the discussions- that made a big difference. The first test didnt go so well for a lot of people. Prof. Raymundo did a study session for the next test and everyone seemed happy with the results. There are lots of readings so you have to be organized.
Pressures people into talking even if they don't know the answer. His homework assignments are unrealistic. He expects you to write up too 500-700 word essays for each discussion based on simple questions. Be prepared too do more then the required two hours of homework each week. I would not recommend this class unless it was your last option.
A real challenging class. I had to get used to reading and writing. We had small reading and writing groups that was super helpful. We had three tests and no finals (other than a self-evaluation where you basically grade yourself). Real helpful to talk to him during his office. My group went a couple of times and we understood the work better.
Some of the materials were very hard. And lots of it. His explanations really helped a lot both he stuff we talked about in class and when I talked to him in his office. He knows a lot more than what he says in class and there's already a lot. Two tests, a group project. Very good class. Looking back, he really respected me as an adult.
I thought this was gonna be an easy class. It was not but it was really good. We talked about popular things and he wanted us to think about our values and principals. There's a lot to read. We had three tests and did not have a final exam. We had a group project. Pick your group wisely! I have transferred and appreciate this class so much.
Liked: topics, his lecturing style, interesting assignments. Didnt like so much: a lot of readings and sometimes too fast paced. But really helpful when I spoke to him about how to raise my C/D during Thanksgiving break. Three weeks of hard work got me to a high B. Ill take it.
The entire class is comprised of a few tests worth the majority of the class and a few assignments worth virtually nothing. The tests are open for 3 days starting from Friday ending Sunday. Why even have tests be open on the weekend? They could be open any other day of the week. For this I missed a test and there's no makeup, nor extra credit.
Really liked the Introduction humanities class lots of shorter articles to read,we had some tests (3-4) and some group work that got changed because of the lockdown. Could get a hold of him after a few tries. Plan way before the tests.
Going to be blunt and honest. did the online course- you will do most of the work yourself. Office hours are only good for getting chew out by teacher. homework is easy but test affect your grade more. Test instructions have never once been clear, if confused do not ask for help, its either his point of view or none. no late work no leadership
I learned a lot. We had weekly short assignments. We had 3 tests. He recorded stuff about the course materials. Clear instructions and policies. Tough but fair. No late work accepted.
I was really tense about going to school during the lock down. I am glad I took this and stuck it out. The subjects were interesting and some were hard. The tests were ok and we did not have a final. I had a C and ended up with a B. He told us he understood the pandemic and taking courses. It turned out to be true! Thank you. ;)
Professor Raymundo is the most disorganized teacher I've had. He is unforgiving and frankly cold when it comes to grading. I got half the answers on a quiz wrong because I put the word "the" in front of the full name of the answer (rubric was NOT clear). I brought this up to him, he decided he didn't like me and my grade never recovered. Big ego.
I would take this class in person but it was also good during the pandemic. Interesting topics.
Most likely the tests will have little to do with what you are learning and must teach your self. You must be very precise on the fill in section on the tests as well. The teaching style he has makes it hard to learn, the only class I had this semester that I did not enjoy and had the worst grade in.
I feel like a barely learned anything from this class. The only thing we did was write long essays with stupid prompts and tests that were WAY too hard and specific. Tests are fill in the blank so if you dont fill in the exact thing hes looking for youll get it wrong. Uncommunicative and inflexible. Skip it please.
This is not my first online course, but this is my first abysmal online experience. My biggest issues with this professor: lack of clear expectations overall, vague writing prompts, exams that are VERY tedious (fill in the blank obscure text/excerpts from reading), exams on the weekends, late & unorganized canvas postings; I did not learn anything.
This was a good class! I learned new things. Test dates are posted and tests are from the weekly activities we had to do.
The class worked out for me. I took it bc I dropped another class. I liked the videos we had to watch. Some of the materials were dense.
Interesting class. Got harder from when we started. We had weekly readings, some videos and then we had tests (3 in total). There's no extra credit which I did not. I had a C but the test and this write up he had us to do bumped up to a B. Gen Ed done!!
It was a slow start. A lot of materials to start but then it eases up a little. He gave a few tests (3), we watched some videos, most weeks we had discussions. It could be a little more interactive especially in the middle part. I'm done and have a semester left!
Course was good! Modules were easy to follow. We didnt have to buy any books but there are articles to download.
This class is very disorganized and assignments do not make much sense. The five point assignments should be worth double because of how much work they are. Instructions are never clear.
The instructor is knowledgeable. We read interesting books. I had a B for the course until the end. The final mattered a lot.
Professor Raymundo is knowledgeable and very approachable. If you want a good grade in the class, it's essential to read all the material and meet with the professor if you have any concerns. Respect is a two-way street in this course, and communication and discussion are highly recommended. Not many assignments, but they are heavily weighted.
The class was interesting and I enjoyed the material. I appreciate the fact that there was no textbook, only articles that he provided himself. The most difficult things were the amount of work and time put into each assignment and the fact that the grading criteria was often unclear and confusing
Assignments weren't difficult but all have a word count requirement that's hard to reach. He'll ask you one question on an assignment and expect you to answer it in 500 words and I was always grasping at straws toward the end to fill the page. Also deducts half points from assignments without feedback or reasoning. Material was interesting
I actually got a B with some papers at 400 words. But it was because I focused on my other stuff and forgot only 2 tasks and my grade tanked. The material got bland, and it's hard to prompt with vagueness and be specific in the papers. Classes like these are too "English 1A". I don't feel like I learned anything, put captions with 2X all lectures!
Really interesting materials.
I thought friendship was a very interesting topic. We only had one test and weekly assignments. I thought we had group work but it was individual work. No textbook.
I LOVED this class! So many interesting articles, with quizzes related to the materials that are untimed, repeatable- so you can skim if needed. Just use critical thinking skills on the few papers/responses you write. The due dates are really flexible too, and there was only a few group discussion board posts. Easy and interesting class.
As an asynchronous teacher, Professor Raymundo established sensitivity and pertinence clearly in the online environment. This class is not difficult, and it is obvious that student success is Professor Raymundo's top priority, although the readings were sometimes long and abstract. I would highly recommend this teacher!
Just finished HUMAN 25, onl summer class so things I share might be different from another period. We have 3 due days at total, and you have to submit all the assignment + quizzes by the due date, he won't accept late work. Be ready to read a lot, you don't necessarily read/watch all of them except if they are for your quizzes. Ask if u have ques!
Most assignments were quizzes you had to take after some article readings but were really easy. Would recommend! :)
When I signed up for this, I expected it to be a chill humanities class to fulfil credit instead of an art class. This class has become harder than my in person classes (both STEM based) and have made me feel as though I do not know anything about the subjects no matter how hard I try to understand them because the tests are so hard.
I was concerned about taking 2 STEM classes this semester as a liberal arts major but this was the hardest class this semester. Thought this would be easy since it is similar to my major. Between my 2 STEM classes, I had less work to do combined than in this class. The readings for this class were dense--either long or dull and hard to understand.
Big chunk of the work are quizzes so you have to read. There are videos and some readings have highlights. Writing assignments are short. Most are quizzes, multiple choice. Answers are given to you- you have 3 tries.
Really fun and interesting assignments. Wide variety of topics. Uses fun and interactive course materials for assignments (movies, articles, etc.). Good amount of writing.
Fun and interactive topics (shows, bands, etc.). Fun and interesting course materials. A lot of writing required but it made you think harder about the assignments and actually analyze them.
I loved this class, and the course work is super fun and interesting. I recommend everyone who loves monsters to take this class. Raymundo is a great professor
Professor Raymundo's class was a wild ride - assignments were super fun, but also surprisingly tough. Definitely put in the work, but unstuck study helped me ace the tricky tests. Overall, an engaging class that pushed me out of my comfort zone.
This was a very interesting class with interesting material. It's evident he cares a lot about the material he is teaching. It's an easy class if you keep up with the homework. I took it during the summer with another class and it was very doable.
