Dr. Rodriguez is an excellent professor. Unlike most professors, he makes the class material interesting. I highly recommend taking his Comm 110 class because you learn a lot of fascinating facts about communicating with others interpersonally.
very cool guy and funny
I loved being in class with Dr. J. He was funny and made the material interesting. His test were not easy, but if you studied and did the word in the activity session than the class went along smoothly.
This is a pretty easy class, and the professor is really nice, but it's extremely boring. I don't even go to class anymore because he works straight from the book, and the book is more interesting.
funny guy... pretty easy class
This guy is a professor who has humor and has a good way to relate the material to his life that makes understanding the lecture smoothly.Whoever wants to stay awake throughout class and learn material that can be used in daily life, take his class.
He made the class enjoyable and very easy to understand. He is by far not boring, especially for being a lecture teacher
Powerpoint gets dull but it's not too bad. Make sure to do well in the workshop portion.
Very funny teacher... always walked in class with a smile.... i found the tests simple..but Great class!
very very interesting class, test a little difficult, you need to read the book, he's a funny guy and relates the material in "student words" to make it easy to understand.
Easy class, corny teacher. He says that he doesn't lecture straight out of the book but he does. His jokes are lame and flirts with the girls but if you want an easy A, take this class. It's a joke.
If you want an easy A take his class. He sais that the tests will be hard but they aren't. Just go to the lecture and you don't hav to study for the exams.
The Comm110 show! Its awesome. He is so cool and jokes around a lot. Take this class for sure!
This guy is not that funny, corny maybe, but definately NOT funny. Wait a couple more years until you've taken more classes to decide if he's funny or not. Lecture is extremely boring and straight from the book. Repeats himself too much. Overall nice guy.
Friendly, funny, entertaining, good lecturer, but honestly, I stopped going after the first test because he lectures straight from the book. If you study the book well, you'll do fine on the tests you don't hafta go to class. His class isn't boring, it just seems like a waste of time sometimes.
Very funny, nice teacher. He was always cheerful. His tests are easy if you read the chapters and study, and he tests straight from the book. Great guy, I liked the class a lot.
cool ,funny, test are kind of hard. but if you read the book its cool
Funny teacher. The lecture is pretty boring but the exams are easy! The workshop is a lot of work.
I never go to class. his lectures are just like the book's outline of the chapter and you can get that off line. His tests are ok. Im not a fan of all that T/F questioning. He can find ways to trck you there.
Tests a little hard but A if study, A in activity helps out.
he really didn't need to be in class,he made us teach the chapters.a week into class and we had to pick groups and teach the class and things we hadn't ever been taught.we could have done the class without him after the first day.tests sucked since he made them up but didn't teach any of ot
Lectures are boring at times. He's not funny even though some people think so. The activity part on the other hand is easy, 5 pts per meeting SO Don't miss a class. The notes are the key to the exam so try to get them. EASY EXAMS! (T/F and Mult Choice)
This teacher was awsome. yes it was a bit boring, but if you have friends it will be fun. he also make funny jokes and adds latin flava. He is very well organized and makes the topics interesting and clear. Tests are not easy, STUDY, STUDY STUDY in advance.
Welcome to the Comm 110 Show with JRod. ANyway, he is a good teacher, He give excelent lectures, just sure you don't get Paula as your activity teacher.
he is a jerk!! his lecture is a waste of time. The test is so hard...there is no way you can do the test without reading the whole book... strongly recommend take COMM130 insteadof COMM110. I wish i could.....
i studied days in advance for his exam and still got a B-!!! his lectures dont help at all, although it's entertaining..true and false exams so he finds ways to trick you! i also recommend taking comm 130
His lectures are hilarious, but they go right along with the book so you don't even need to go to class. Everyone is saying the tests are hard, i read the book and did the practice tests online and got an A so i dont think they are that bad
He is very interesting and knows the material well. I like the class because he gives out jokes that can help you learn the material! I recommend reading the assigned chapters and doing the online tests (m.c t/f) and get a good grade! Be able to apply the concepts because tests have examples!
Everyone in this class agrees it is one of the most interesting and fun and HARD classes we have ever taken. The tests are obscene. If you're addicted to A's, don't take Roderiguez. B's are easier. You also have to not hate presenting lectures. We have great discussions but some people hate it
why didnt I take comm130? The lecture is boring, the test is so hard. I got a D on the first test.
The lecture is boring and the test is hard. Even I read every single chapter and do the online test many times, I still didnt get a high grade on the first test. He always tricks you on the test. Too much work, too much reading for a 3 units foundation GE. SUggest u should take COMM130.
very interesting lectures! but you have to READ the chapters..his exames are all about DETAIL..so make sure you read the book and take very very good notes.
Test are hard,40 questions,10 q's per chapter. You only take 4 test and the final is not cummulative. What pep don't notice is that on the test review he practically gives out the test q's, so pay att! I got D's on most of test and stil managed to get a B in the class. Workshop grades r very immp!!
lectures are funner in beginning of the year. you barely see him with individual questions. you most deal with t/a from workshop. workshop grade super important. tests are not that difficult. pay attention in lectures and know the terms.
Tests are a bit difficult for a 100-level course. Funny guy, attending workshop is far more important than lecture. Recommended if you're afraid of giving speeches.
He's a pretty funny guy. His tests are a bit tricky, but overall fairly easy. Read your text book.
This guy is a joke...and that is why you should take him. You never have to go to his lecture. You only have to go to the workshop once a week. Don't buy a textbook if he is still using the Devito one. Go to the website, it has chapter reviews and sample tests. That's all i did and I got an A.
If you read the book and go onto the website component and take the practice tests, the tests will be pretty easy, since the questions are a lot like the practice tests. You don't really need to go to the lectures, just go to the workshop. Although a lot of the time his lectures are funny.
there is a very VERY low chance that you'll get a good grade on the exams without reading the book. i skimmed the chapters for the first exam and i got a D. but when i read all the chapters for the next two exams, i got A's. but you have to really read the DETAILS in the book. i got an A in the course.
This guy is nice, he makes his lectures funny. His lectures are straight out of the book but his tests are really hard and tricky, you really have to read the book.

he is a pretty cool teacher. He is really funny and class isnt too boring although sometimes i find my self think.."what the hell did he just say"??? ha "what?" I sorta day dream sometimes but other than that he is very cool. U have to read the book and i took one test so far, didnt seem that hard. but who knows!!!
I loved this guy. He is really funny, and the material was made easy.

great professor
The class is all about presentation and his tests are so hard. He does not give any lecture, just let you give your presentation every day. It was so boring and a lot of people did not even show up.
umm his classes are easy. lectures are easy to understand, but his exams are tricky..only a few questions for each chapter but geezzz...its not nuerosurgery..his exams need to be more concrete, they're just too tricky, the subject doesnt need to have this hard of an exam..even when you study you get liek a B or a minus 10...it really is irritating.
He is such a good professor. His class is very interesting. so far it has been one of the best classes I've taken. If you are looking for an interesting and fun class this is the class for you
He is a very nice professor and his class is entertaining. His tests are little confusing but he gives u a study guide right before the test. I enjoyed his class very much!!!!
activity teachers are FUN! his lectures are funny..but his exams are UNFAIRLY written given that his lectures are sooo easy to understand. its true...even when you feel stupid studying and reading the book about behaviors you already know..you still get a bad grade on his exams. but funny teacher
This teacher is really funny, if you take this class you will be entertained. Workshops are fun, but the tests are hard. If you study though you should be fine, it is also good information.
he teaches exact from the book so it doesn't help. his tests are weirdly worded and it is wack.
All of the people below who complained about the tests being hard are incompetant fools. Yes, this class is easy and his lectures can be skipped, but the tests are a piece of cake. Anyone with half a brain can pass the tests, if you can read you can pass the tests. The teacher was a nice guy but not really funny, people are too easily amused.
The class is not that hard to pass. If you read and study a couple of hour a day, you can pass with a "A". He is a very funny teacher and lecture very well. You will not pass the test if you do not read.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Dr. J is so funny! He teaches the material with such a good sense of humor that it sticks in ur brain and never leaves. I just went to the lecture and never read the book, and I had an A in the class. His lectures are pretty much what the books says, so if u either read the book or go to his lectures, u'll still pass the class!
Teaches material very well, and makes you laugh during lectures with interesting examples on the content. Definitely take him if you have the opportunity
Pretty easy class, just make sure you understand the material for the tests. Dr. J is a really nice, funny guy. Just show up to lecture, he has some funny stories. Labs are boring, depending on your TA.
funny guy.. dont have to show up for the lecture because its right out from the book.. class has three test and a couple of paper from the breakout group besides that not much work
This class was really easy, but hard to get a good grade in. The tests are fairly difficult, but they require a lot of studying to actually get an A.
this teacher is funny. He will amke you connect his class witht he real world..recommend and if you have like to read can get an A..but if you don't and just go to lectures...still get an A...
He is so fun! His classes are all interactive which makes it much more interresting. He is funny and has a good method of making his students learn! I loved his class. He dresses really nice too! A new expensive Tommy Bahama shirt every class meet!
VERY awesome professor!!! He knows the material. This professor is funny and makes the learning understandable, interesting, and fun. Excellent professor for any COMM course. I have taken him twice...excellent!!!
seems like a nice guy, at least he tries to make the information interesting...
Not at all interesting even when he tries to be. I hardly ever went to class and spent less than an hour all semester reading the textbook and still got a B. I'd recommend only showing up for activity and tests.
i took this class because i taught he was going to be cool and funny. but his lecture aren't helpful because he just copies titles off the chapter from the text book and gives BS explaination. so gotta study on your own. also, he tells you what is going to be on the test but he tells you vaguely and averaged C's on all the tests.
This guy is actually kind of funny but the whole lecture thing was completely useless. Just go to review, activity sessions, and read your book. I'm serious half the people who rated him bad because they didn't get good grades were because they are a bunch of lazy fools. Seriously read the book!!!
He pretty much rocks. He really doesn't care when you you start your projects, as long as you turn them in on time. He's really cool. Tests were iffy, but overall not too bad if you studied. Only 25 questions each, except for the final which was 30. All multiple choice and t/f. Makes the calss fun by not lecturing. TAKE HIM!!! :)
Jose is probably one of the best professors at CSULB based on value, as he is very willing to help any student, and he presents material in lecture in an efficient and highly organized fashion. While I was not that keen on taking this class before semester started, his way of teaching encourages students to absorb the material.
One of the easiest courses I have taken. Dr. J is very funny, you will laugh in every single one of his lectures. A couple of questions on the exam might be a little tricky, but the exams are easy if you read the textbook ( which is easy to read ). Three exams, plus activity assignments, final is not cummalative. You should get an A or B.
Very cool professor.Makes class interesting and lectures from the book.Give about three exams including final and all home work comes from workshop.
EXCELLENT Professor! Lectures are very clear and straight foward. It is really to your benefit to attend all lecture classes b/c the exam questions are right off the pp lectures. He is so awesome that he encouraged me to minor in communications. Take this class! Really!!!
He's a very intering man. His tries to make lecture enteraining; however, there's no need to go to class because he does not take roll and all the material covered in the PowerPoint presentation is covered in the book, and also most of the material from exams come from the book. Tests are multiple choice and contains many examples from book.
Dr. J is the nicest guy in the world. he really cares about his students even though he has almost 400 per class. he really wants you to learn and if you show up to class, you will. if you just read the book, you'll get by but if you just go to class, you'll ace every exam.
He's really funny and curses a lot. He gives you the study guide before the test, but I stopped going to his class once I realized he lectures straight from the book and my workshop teacher, Vitta, posted the study guide for the tests. With a good amount of studying and dedication you'll get an A like I did.
he's the best teacher you'll ever have.
He makes lecture funny. Guaranteed you'll laugh each class. Lectures straight out of the book. 3 tests. Tests were kind of tough, but if you study and attend class you'll be fine. Good class.
awsum teacher, he's funny and makes learning fun. relates the topics to real life and his as well, keeps you awake and interesting. not so important if you miss class. just read the book and you'll be fine. if you study you'll pass.
He makes his lectures fun and interesting with all his easy to understand examples. His study guides are straight forward, which make his test easy (if u study that is). Overall, he is a cool professor.
he was a funny teacher and very interesting lecturer. but his class is not mandatory. he just reads off the book when he lecture so just read your book when you take the test. his tests are pretty hard let me say. but the assignments make up for the hard test though.
Dr. J lectures right out of the book. The only classes I went to were the review sessions and exam days. The class is a piece of cake. He tells you exactly what's on the test, including the page you can find the answer on. Some of the questions are tricky but you'll be fine if you study. Activity is where you do all the work
This guy is cool. He's crazy and funny. Well he was funny at first but his stuff gets old after a while. But he's cool, not too hard and I reccomend him.
this class was easy. most of it is common sense but i learned a few things. dr. j is pretty funny, but gets corny after a while. if you dont go to class just read the chapters. his lectures are totally from the book, but he usually only covers about 75% of test in class and on review day.
okay, for everyone out there. I will give you detailed information. This nice is nice/funny. But the tests are hard. I barely pulled off an A in the class. I studied around 3-4 hours a test. I never showed up for class, but just took good notes. Lectures aren't very useful, because its all in the book. When he talks about the test, he makes "it se
First of all, he's sexy and gorgeous. When I wasn't distracted by his amazing good looks, I was taking notes. His class was very helpful and follow the book and the notes and you'll be fine. The tests aren't hard, it's common sense, if you barely pull of an A, you are in the wrong class.
Cool guy, great professor! Nice, funny & sexy ;)
Dr. J's class are a little boring because all you do is take notes all the time. His classes are a little more interesting when he is joking around with other students and when he says his funny jokes. The tests are HARD so you have to study your butt of to pass them. There are always 40 ?'s 30 T/F & 10 multiple choice. I highly recommend studying!
He is very funny, and his class is amuzing. He always finds real life examples which make it easy to understand. His tests are a bit confusing, but nothing you can't manage without studying a bit. I enjoyed the class.
Dont need to attend the lectures, everything's in the book. Just need to go to class on the review days for the exams. YOU WILL NEED the book. Exams are hard, you need to study. If your the type of person that can read and memorize everything and do well on test, take this class. If your a procastinator and dont like to read, do NOT take this class
You don't have to attend lecture. It doesn't help at all, he lectures straight out of the book. Doesn't cover everything on tests in class, so make sure to read every chapter thoroughly. Some of his test questions aren't clear or are worded oddly. Overall he is a nice guy and funny, and the class isn't overly hard.
He's very entertaining, friendly, and certainly easy. However most of the work for this class happens in the activity course, so he doesn't help you much. Didn't attend class lectures, just went to activity, barely studied, pulled a B+ even after bombing the final. Recommended for easy Comm class.
Lectures are straight from the book so just read the book and you never have to go to lecture except for exam days. I don't know why people make a big deal out of his exams, they aren't that difficult.
Lectures STRAIGHT out of the book. Don't need to go to lecture, but DO go on review days. Reviews are very helpful for the test. Pretty cool guy.
This class is pretty easy, he does lecture straight out of the book, but going to class did help reinforce the material. If you do not go to class make sure you go to the review day because he tells you what to study for.
Just glad this class is over. Prof Rodriguez treats you like your a little kid, other than that it was an easy course
This class is pretty easy. If you go to lectures, you should be fine. The tests can be tricky though so you need to be able to apply the information. Make sure you go to the review days because it is really helpful for the tests.
Very interesting lectures and fun class to attend. Not too important to go to because he literally lectures from the book. Sections are definitely more important to go to. His lectures are entertaining though. He likes to call it the Comm 110 Show... Infotainment!
he is a great professor. he is super nice and makes class interesting.. although you do not need to go to the lecture.. the activity teaches u everything and everything is straight out of the book!
He is likeable professor and it SEEMS easy b/c all we do is partner up to take turns presenting book chapters to the class. Discussions were interesting but he DOES NOT TEACH/LECTURE AT ALL.Which would be ok until you get the exam unprepared and is super hard and worth most the grade. I attended everyday, read everything and still got a B.
Dr.Rodriguez is just wonderful... an excellent professor, nice person and very attractive. I miss him & his class. You should definitely take his class!
He does lecture straight out of the book but going to lecture helps with the exams which could be a little difficult. Most of his powerpoint slides are in the back of the book! He gives great real life examples so you can comprehend better. Don't miss review days!
Dr. Rodriguez is a good solid professor, with clear lectures and a fun attitude. He's also pretty attractive for a guy his age.
AWESOME EASY teacher. best class i took. dont even need to go to class. the assignments, projects, and tests seem like a lot but everything is so easy and he grades easy! Tests are easy if you READ THE BOOK! RECOMMEND HIM!
Fun and easygoing teacher. He made Comm 110 a very cool and enjoyable class
great teacher. veryyy funny. uses great examples. just go to class n take notes or read the book.
Tries to be funny, but just comes across as annoying. His lecture powerpoints are in the back of the book and all his test questions are copied exactly from the online quizzes on the publishers website. attendance is not mandatory, just memorize the online quizzes and youll do fine
Easy to understand and very helpful. Just read the book which is easy to read and you'll pass the test
He keeps things funny and interesting. Make sure to take the practice exams because he pulls questions from them. Study and attend all activity classes. Overall it was an interesting and somewhat fun class.
Went to class about 5 times the whole semester. 3 times was to take the tests, and two were the review sessions. It's not mandatory to go to class, and I still managed to get good grades on his tests. So, fairly easy. Even though I barely went to class, the prof. is interesting and hilllarious.
This is a SUPER EASY CLASS! But the teacher can't teach. I never went to class and got an A. He gets all of his powerpoint slides out of the back of the book, and his tests come directly word for word from the online practice test. Attendance is mandatory for the wksp portion of the class, and homework is easy but time consuming.
This class was honestly a joke, I never showed up to class and just studied the online quizzes from the publisher's website. The final ( last exam ) was nothing like the quizzes. He tried to change it up because his low attendance rate. I would recommend this class if you have a busy work schedule and want a class you don't have to work so hard in.
This class was fun and teaches you things you can actually use in day to day life. I recommend taking it! It's easy. Attendance isn't mandatory as long as you read the book and study. Just bring the book to highlight as your notes. Class was fun and interesting! Its an easy GE and you meet a lot of people cause its a communication class :P TAKE IT!
This class isnt as easy as it used to be, i think he changed it up to make the class more difficult. true/false is kind of tricky on exams, but exams all m/c, 40 questions. if you study and understand, easy A. work a little less hard, easy B. I loved my activity section!
This class was really easy. The first day is he going to tell you that you need this CD that has practice test for you which is NOT NEEDED. Basically his lecture is the book. The test are really easy except for the T/F questions. He gives you a review before the test which helps a lot.Study for the terms that he tells you from his review.
No point in showing up for lecture. Read the book a few times before the tests and you'll do fine.
Prof. Rodriguez was helpful, clear with the examples from powerpoints, and cracked jokes while doing so. Take him!
Barely showed up to class. Basically does power point based on the info in the text book. He cracked a lot of jokes while lecturing. If you study everything in the textbook before the test, then you don't really have to show up for class. I only showed up for the review days.
Really cool professor and fun class. He is really funny and I think its impossible to leave the class without having a good laugh. However, I never showed up to any of his lectures and only went to my activity class. Everything he teaches is straight out of the textbook so study the book and show up for the exams for an easy B or A
Overall, he's a good professor. I actually went to lecture all semester although it's not mandatory. He can be pretty entertaining at times but sometimes it gets old. His tests are definitely challenging, and if you don't go to lecture (which is just powerpoints) it's necessary to read the book to pass the class.
SO BORING! He makes a bunch of stupid jokes and his lectures don't even help you with the test. The activity portion is just a bunch of stupid busy work. So basically just memorize the book and you're good.
Immerses you in the material. Reading load is fair, and all readings are discussed in class. No lectures, just discussion. Exams are not difficult if you prepare. Syllabus makes it seem like there will be a lot of work, but workload is very fair. More practical than cynical, he keeps it upbeat and real. Take his class if you can get in!
it's useless to go to lecture because u can read right from the book. hard test and tricky if you dont study. It's easier if you studied really really hard xD. but nice professor.
Funny professor, entertaining lectures, however you Don't really need to go to lectures, he reads straight from the book. Easy A if you read the book because the tests are all definitions from the book.
This teacher will help you learn in a fun way! Two Thumbs up
He is such a great speaker. I always attend the lectures because I love listening to the jokes and stories he talks about! I love the humor he incorporates in his lectures because it is so easy to understand the material he teaches! I HIGHLY recommend him!!!!!!!!
Attendance is definitely not necessary for the Comm 110 lecture class. Everything is straight from the book. Although if you do attend the lecture, it helps you better understand the topics and terms that you learn for the exams. One positive thing about this class is that the final is NOT cumulative, SNAPS FOR RODRIGUEZ!
Awesome professor! Makes coming to this class fun! Can get a little boring but he is so funny that it won't bother you! Easy class, just review for the test. He tells you what exactly you need to know for the test so that is really helpful! Would recommend this class with this teacher more than Comm 130! Barely do any homework!
Be sure to be there on the days before the test. He does a review and if you don't go well...
material &the examples given are actually relatable. some, common sense. if u pay attention you'll do fine &just stick with the examples, you'll do fine. the tests are actually tricky though. just show up the review, study hard & you'll do good on the tests divided up by chapters. some people only show up to ONLY the review days &still end up fine
I have to say that this class was actually really fun. He's a pretty funny teacher and will keep you laughing. Attendance is not mandatory. A lot of students only show up for the exams. Everything that is on the exam is word for word from the text. OH, Remember to go to the activity though!
Very cool and funny.
He's a cool, funny professor and I really don't see how you can't get at least a B in this class...He practically goes over all of the exact questions that are on the test the day before! You don't need to go to class (except for the exam review days) but will need to buy the textbook.
he is funny if you actually decide to go to lecture, activity is mandatory and the work is fairly easy, just 1 5 min speech, tests are fairly hard however and require studying
I don't recommend him. He wrote the book (CD) he uses for the course, so he INSISTS you buy it new (trust me, you don't need to buy it new). He is very narcissistic and enjoyed making fun of students who ask him questions. The tests are harder than they should be. Take a different comm class.
Dr. J was very fun and entertaining at the beginning of the semester than got very boring. In my opinion, you can either go to class and take notes and not need to buy the book, or you can buy the book and read through it and never need to go to class. The lectureart of the class is pretty useless, but the workshop part is fun!
he's really funny and entertaining--more of a comedian than a professor really.but his exams are really tricky and he doesn't cover everything on the exam in lecture so you have to read the book(doesn't need to be latest edition)but overall he's really cool
fun lectures but the exams are kind of difficult. but an "a" is possible if you do good in the activity and study ALOT!
He is really funny which makes his lectures more interesting. You don't really have to go to lecture except the day before the exam because he gives you a list of every single topic that is going to be on the test in order. The definitions are easy to find and if you study all of those topics you will get an A. It's a really easy class!
He doesn't cover all the material during lecture. Even if you read the book, the wording on his tests are tricky and confusing. I don't recommend this class. The class averages on the tests were Ds and he doesn't curve the grades. He expects you to be an expert on communication and if not it's hard to recieve a good grade.
Really funny. He gives out examples after explaining what's on the powerpoint, which makes it easy to understand. Attendance isn't mandatory and the powerpoints are online. He doesn't cover everything in the 50 min lecture but that's what the book's for. It's the workshop classes that attendance is mandatory
Going to lecture is hardly necessary. When you buy the textbook, all his lectures are online. Class is basically just definitions (that you can find in his lectures). The only time I would recommend going, as others have said, is the class before an exam. He goes through every topic that will be on the exam, in order of appearance, to study.
He acts arrogant in lectures, and his tests will mess you up. The workshops are fun and easy, but attendance is required. You have to study a lot to get a decent grade on his tests, most of the class gets Cs and Ds. The lessons are useless and elementary. If you want a good grade and applicable knowledge, go with public speaking.
This class is pretty useless and easy. Got an A and I never attended lectures after the first exam. If you buy a new book/cd and get the online code, power points will be online.. so it's pretty useless to come to class since Dr. Rodriguez just reads from the slide anyways. I'm surprised that people still get Cs and Ds in this class.
he is very funny & i loved going to his lectures. the test are pretty tricky thoo, i had to study alot to get a decent grade. overral its a good easy classs.
DO NOT GO TO LECTURE; he doesnt even cover all of the material. if you take notes on the book, youll be fine. could not stand him because he thought he was hilarious, but his jokes were neverending. if you study, youll be just fine. skip out on the comedy show lecture
Great class. He is easy to understand and gives clear examples of what he is looking for in assignments. Likes to go on tangents though, which can be a little frustrating.
Absolutely no need to go to lecture. His powerpoints are straight off the book. As for exams, just go to the review lecture before the test and read the book.
I liked the fact that Dr. Rodriguez made the effort to make this class more interesting by making it a "Comedy" show, but really it just made me hate the class. You dont even have to go to class because he bases the lecture off the book. Oh, and the book? You HAVE to buy it NEW so you can get the "whole experience." Skip this class if you can.
He offers 307 in the winter. If you need this class and get a chance to take it in winter, DO. IT.
Dr. J is cool. The class is great. His lectures are fun.
Dr. Rodriguez is a fantastic teacher. The guy deals with 500 people every semester. He's a saint! He is organized and gives you all the 611 that you need to do well in class. Professor Rodriguez rocks!
He's a really cool guy and tells some funny stories. Class was typically entertaining and even though the midterms are big and you need to study for them, they're pretty simple if you know your stuff. Most tends to be common sense.
He was a great teacher, super funny, very interesting, keeps topics relevant. No need to go to class as long as you read the books and study really hard for the tests. The test material is straight out of the book.
I absolutely loved Dr. Rodriguez! He was engaging, hilarious, and created a very relaxing, stress-less class environment. He provided more than enough time to copy his Powerpoint slides and told interesting, relatable personal stories. His exams were easy: only multiple choice and True/False. Definitely take this class with him!
Professor Rodriguez is a great teacher! I love this guy! He knows how to keep it real. The dude is a riot!
HE IS AWESOME! TAKE COMM110 WITH HIM! PROMISE YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! Originally, I planned to take a speech class, but only comm110 was available during registration. It was one of the best choices I've made. The workshop made it worthwhile too! I had Ryan Derry and he is completely chill. Take ur activity with him too!
He is a fantastic teacher! It was my favorite class this semester. He is clear and super nice. He went out of his way and stayed after class to help us out with an assignment for the activity class. My activity class was with Minodora, and she is awesome! XOXO
Dr. Rodriguez is awesome! He was my favorite professor this semester. His lectures are clear, down-to-earth, and funny. The tests are fair, and he always gives you a good review before exams. I attended the lectures, and I found them helpful because he tells great stories that made the material easier to understand. He's a cool teacher!
Very Funny professor but his tests are quite hard. the wording is tricky its best if you read from the online text book. In his lecture he'll explain things in simpler terms but don't be fooled the tests will not be like this!
Dr. J is totally chill. He keeps the lectures fresh and easy to understand. He lets you know what is on the test by doing a review. I loved this class. Thanks Dr. J!
One of my favorite Comm professors. He's very funny and gives study guides for the exams which helps a lot. The assignments include weekly discussion boards,1 paper,& 3 exams. Pretty straightforward.
Easiest class ever! Super boring though. Students teach the class
Dr. J is super rad! This class was cool. The discussions keep the material easy to relate to ur day-to-day life. Exams are challenging, but fair. My fav class this semester. Highly recommend!
I just finished taking this class. It is so chill. U get the deal from Dr. J. He is clear and real. He takes the time to tell you how you can do well in his class, and that really made the difference for me. Take him! Ur gonna love class with this professor! No joke...
I got a lot out of this class. The readings were really cool, and I could relate to the topics. The online stuff is easy to write about. He is an inspirational teacher. I enjoyed hearing the stories about his academic journey. It motivated me to continue my education. Thanks, Dr. J!
Easiest A ever. Doesn't take attendance. 1 solo presentation, 1 partner presentation, 1 group presentation, 3 tests. He gives you a study guide that is literally the test.
Dr Rodriguez is the best professor in the department. He cares about students, is available for mentoring and advising, and really knows his stuff. Take him, man! you wont' regret it.
He comes off as cocky at times but it's literally easiest A ever. Doesn't take attendance. 1 solo presentation, 1 partner presentation, 1 group presentation, 3 tests. Exams are based off the book. The class is taught by students and he elaborates more on a certain topic from time to time. Everyone loved him, and you might too. I didn't.
Dr. J is very chill! Lectures are fun and you learn a lot from them. He's also very funny and interesting. Tends to speak Spanish all of a sudden during lecture, but if you understand what he's saying (like I do) it's cool. Tests are not too hard, but read the textbook anyway.
Dr. J is the man. His lectures are amazing and he is a super funny guy. Lecture is followed by a workshop that meets once a week. Lecture attendance isn't mandatory but the workshop attendance is. The textbook isn't needed if you show up to EVERY lecture and take good notes. If you don't want to attend lecture, just read and you'll do fine.
The lectures were not mandatory, but the activity sections were. Pretty straightforward class with tests based on lectures and reading. You can take good notes and review the textbook the night before and pass. Tests are pretty easy and lectures are interesting as well. Would recommended Dr. J.
Makes concepts easy to understand w/visual aids such as videos and even performs/acts out certain concepts. You can expect him to crack jokes oftenly which is a bonus.
José is hilarious. I didn't want to take Comm110 and I was annoyed with how much reading the class entailed. He showed videos in class that pertained to the concept. 3 exams. And several assignments in the activity portion of the class. Easy class though.
Jose was very chill and sassy at the same time with his Spanish speaking skills. His class was pretty easy, but you have to study for the exams (3 of them), sometimes, they can be kind of tricky. I was super close to an A, but barely studied for the exams. There was also work from activity class that takes up a good chunk of your grade as well.
Professor Rodriguez was super chill and if you went to his lectures, he made the material seem fun and relatable! Although if you have the book, you don't need to go to lecture at all. Just know the vocabulary!! Attendance for the activity class is a MUST!! I overslept twice and because of it, I went down from an A to a B. Caution of act class!
The lecture class was very entertaining and the material is easy to follow. Show up for the activity class and do the assignments which are very easy and youll be good. The exams are pretty easy if you study a little. However be aware that he doesnt curve your final grade so every point matters. I got an 89.7 and he kept it a B.
I took this class with another professor my freshman year. It was a nightmare, so here i am taking it with Dr. J! Wow, what a difference! The lectures are clear. He tells you what is on the test. He does this cool thing to get people to talk with a foam microphone. He shows videos and you talk about it in class. The dude is just chill!
Dr. J is a great professor! He cares! He makes stuff easy to understand! I don't know how people can do bad on the tests... I don't get it! He gives cool study guides online, and he goes over what to expect. He tells jokes and doesn't take himself too seriously. Take the class with this guy!
Just go to activity class since attendance also counts for points. Lecture is a bit useless since the lecturer (Jose is the lecturer, you'll have a different teacher for the activity) can't go over everything, meaning you're gonna have to read the book. Tests are fairly easy if you read the book, go to review days (day before exam).
Class is super fun and informative. Dr. J is amazing. He's very knowledgeable, funny, and gives great examples. The stuff in lecture helps provide context for the activity courses and helps for the exams. 10/10 would take the class again.
Took course during Summer 2018. Great professor. Textbook is dirt cheap on Amazon; $12. Weekly Beachboard discussion posts plus 3 exams and scheduled quizzes and a couple of pop quizzes. 1 group presentation and 1 group paper. Choose your group partners carefully! Study guide is very helpful. The math didn't kill me either. I passed! Take him!
Such an entertaining teacher. Really understands the mindset of his students and is able to use that to relate with us. His lectures are great. Definitely read from the textbook because some of the questions on the tests arent reviewed in lecture. Highly recommend. Lectures arent mandatory but go to activity or you wont pass.
Take DR. Rodriguez! He is one of the most understanding and funniest professor I have come across thus far. Currently taking his 307 in the winter and its such a game changer. I thought it would of been hard but it's not but that's all thanks to Dr. Rodriguez! He is so understanding that we are COMM majors and math isn't our cup of tea. TAKE HIM!!!
Dr. Rod is an amazing lecturer. He makes them really interesting/funny and always uses real-life examples for the terms he uses. The tests are basically all term-related so it's super easy if you study them. He never calls out people to answer his questions so if you're an introvert like me, this class is for you! TAKE HIM!!
Very fun and interesting class. Tests are very long though, and you don't have much time to complete them. Prepare to study a lot.
i thought dr. j's lectures were very entertaining, but i wouldn't say they were completely necessary to attend all the time. the class was really easy, but the level of difficulty could be slightly different depending on whoever you get as your activity class teacher.
Expensive but buy the book. His exams are based off of lecture but he emphasizes everyday that he can't cover everything so read the book. The book is EASY to read. Exams are multiple choice and T or F. Attendance not mandatory, but when a lot of people missed the same day, he pulled out exam and told us whats on it. Super funny, has good examples.
He tried his best to make lectures entertaining, and they were, which made showing up worth it. The textbook is needed to study for the tests, as the study guides were just a copy-paste of the table of contents. Tests were a greater part of your overall grades, but the tests mostly contained the vocab words(definition and uses) from the reading.
Lectures are always super interesting and hilarious. Plays lots of vids along side his PP's. The only downside was he was never able to get through a full chapter of the textbook in lecture so he would leave it up to you to read. There's 3 exams, I passed them without studying so, if you study the chapters you should great.
Discussion based class, no lectures. 1 discussion post each week, 1 solo presentation, 1 duo presentation, 1 group presentation and 3 exams.
All of his lectures are funny and you can tell he cares about what he does. He wrote the book thats assigned so it is interesting and doesn't get boring. Exams are pretty easy with two midterms and one final. The activity portion only had like six assignments. I would definitely recommend this class, best professor I've had.
3 tests (25 questions, timed) and other activity assignments. You only need the book for activity so try to find it online because tests are just based on lecture slides. Pay attention during the lecture and you won't need the book for tests. Activity is where you do most of the work so get a good instructor. Easy class just don't slack off.
3 exams (30 mins/25 questions). Theyre simple, but since it is timed youll need to study! If you have any questions he would say, check the syllabus & brushes you off. He is fun tho! The ACT classes consist of an introduction, role-play, speech, & another group role-play w/ a writing assignment after. They give you a lot of time to complete it!
Professor Rodriguez is a nice guy, he has the occasional joke here and there. But, let me just say good luck if you're trying to contact him. He either doesn't answer or gives you a short response. Also, he tells his students during the Zoom not to chat to one another in the chat. I found him to be very disconnected from the class/students.
Took over Winter term. Best decision! Take Dr. J!! Sometimes his tests are not as clear-cut as he makes you believe, but he will provide SIMPLE pop quizzes and if the curve isn't high enough, he will also give SUPER easy questions on the test, including the final. He makes everything easy to understand & makes the math easy! Again, TAKE HIM!
This is the type of class where you have to teach yourself the concepts because all he does is read from his power point slides. His internet connection is terrible but he doesn't care if the students can see his slides or not, he'll just tell you to download them on your own... Always ends class early. Study guides don't really help either.
This class is really interesting and actually improves your communication skills if you pay attention. Professor Rodriguez is SO KIND. Attending his class always brightened up my day. The activity portion of the course is pretty fun too and teaches you a lot about yourself.
Dr. J is a pretty easy professor, his class is basically just lecturing off the Textbook he wrote himself, so you don't need to buy the textbook. He does his best to make the class interesting and fun for the students (it doesn't always work out tho). Overall I wouldn't take it again but to get my GE cleared, it was great.
A pretty good professor had him for lecture and there was an activity with another professor. Use his PowerPoint and take notes.
One of the easiest classes I've ever taken. The hardest part of the class was the exams, so as long as you study well you should pass. There is one group project for the year, but like most assignments, it's very easy. Lectures might be a little slow and hard to pay attention to.
Really a fun guy to learn from. he tells funny stories and is a really great talker. learned a lot of applicable stuff in his class, 10/10 would take 10 times again!
3 online test (no camera and lockdown test) I do not enjoy this class at all. I want to enjoy the class that focus on speeches more than tests. so far, I do not enjoy this class and this class is very small so you better have good people that you know that already took this class. I rather have my own teacher that I took from community college.
he isn't okay. the TA ends up teaching majority of the material since he ends class a half hour early. he posts the lectures online but he doesn't finish going over them. the exams are online and there aren't a lot of assignments so its pretty easy. the textbook is online but you don't need it whatsoever
3 exams (online), a speech, a roleplay project, 4 assignments. He reads off the slides that he posted online and ends lectures early. He doesn't finish his lectures so you have to go over it yourself. The exam questions are simple but are worded in a confusing way sometimes.
Professor J is my favorite teacher I've had at Long Beach! He makes lectures so funny and engaging, and all exams are very straight forward, so not too much studying is needed. Activity is also easy, with 1 short "speech", a group roleplay, and then small assignments with easy grading. Almost everyone got an A on every assignment. Overall so fun!
Rodriguez has to be hands down one of the best professors in the Communication department. From the start, I was not able to make it to the first meeting and he openly communicated and guided me through it. His exams are based on his study guides and easy to digest since a lot of terms are and concepts quite relatable. Sign up for his class ASAP!
He's alright, he tends to let class out early even though he doesn't finish his lecture slides. He cracks funny jokes and the work isn't too hard. Sometimes it may get boring in his lecture since the activity section covers more info. 3 online exams, group roleplay, a speech, a reflection paper, and 4 portfolio assignments make up your grade.
Professor J is pretty engaging, with funny jokes that keep the lectures interesting. Exams are straightforward, so not much studying is needed. Assignments are also easy, with a group project and a short speech. For extra prep, I found Unstuck study and ChatGPT helpful. Overall, a great class!
Pretty easy ur grade is basically 2 papers and 3 exams and the exams are online and taken at home but there is a lot of presentation.
he just reads the lecture slides and sometimes doesn't finish them. 3 online test and 1 group pres, 1 individual speech, 1 paper, and 3 other small assignments. it's doable, but the content of the class is boring
Very cool professor! A bit all over the place with lectures, which he never finishes, and easy online exams. He's a bit neurodivergent, but very funny. Recently spotted him at the movie theater with an older woman who was tiny and very frail. Thought it was his mother, but they seemed like a couple; kinda creepy.
Honestly this class was very easy. You go to class, discuss the lectures with the rest class, and that's pretty much it. However, my only nitpick is that he shoved AI down our throats. I was confused whether I was taking an interpersonal communications class or an AI class at that point. He's also very sarcastic and blunt. However, very easy class.
If I had to recommend another easy Communication studies class, this would be it. The lectures and exams are very straightforward, and you only have to show up for class one day a week. Every concept from the lectures were easy to understand, and I found them interesting to learn about. Class time goes by super quick, and it's pretty chill.
HE IS SO AWESOME!!! Attendance does not matter. Tests are all online. Class is so easy, easy A. He's truly the best, makes everyone laugh, and cares about his students.
The class itself was easy, but the professor is very messy. big ego and will talk down to you if you have any questions. seen him to do it to several students but mostly women so I personally wouldn't take him again.
