I recommend Dr.Serpa, really great professor in all aspects:fair,clear,helpful,etc. I fail his class because I had a lot of struggles going on and couldn't attend at the end. But if I need to choose him again, I will.

Great guy his test are even easier than his study guides which he gives to you before every test and with plenty of time to study for them not to mention i took him in a mini term and have been struggling in math for years and i finished with a 104 i highly recommend him

He is an awesome teacher, I've never been someone to like math and after 3 years of not having touched a mathbook taking a class with him was extremely reassuring. He explains clearly and well, he has an accent, yes, but he speaks fluently, clearly, and properly. Definitely take him if you can!

To the person who says he has a terrible accent.... 98% of math professors in MDC & FIU have an accent... So his accent is very mild compared to others! He knows you're there to learn (other profs think you already know it). He's helpful. Gives you a pretest that gives points to your actual test. Will explain slowly and clearly. I took this class in Dade because I was going to fail it at FSU. This was the easiest class I have ever taken in college, and mind you it's Calc 2 lol. I'm not sure if it's because Serpa is an amazing teacher, or if he diluted the course, but anyway, he knows his stuff and he is fair. If you don't get an A in his class, switch majors, honestly.

This is by far the best math professor i have had. The homework and quizes are extra credit. He really knows how to teach math. I used to hate math because i could never get it, but now i understand it a lot better thanks to this professor.

His MAC1105 class is easy. His study guides are basically the same as his tests....can anyone please tell me how his MAC2233 class is?

If you go to his lectures through out the semester it is an easy A. He uses alot of the coursecompass.com exercises to help you practice what you learned in class so you can shine on test day. If you dont go to class and dont do online assignments, come test day you will be lost.

I would take him over and over again! Hes great! Math for me is hard! But Im passing so far. He makes the material easy to understand. Tons of extra credit for exams and out of 5 exams, he drops 2 and then a cummulative final. By far, the best math prof Ive had. Attendance is not mandatory, but I wouldnt miss if math is not your strongest subject.

Very Easy teacher had him twice, he will teach something constantly till NO ONE has a question. He will give you a review to the test, which will literally be the test but with just 1 different number, literally. His attendance is just a sheet of paper around the room, have someone put your name on the sheet of paper, he wont notice nor care/

Best prof. Had him for MAC1147 and understood everything. Easy to approach at end of class. I'm gonna take him again for MAC2311.

I consider Professor Serpa an excellent math professor, he clearly explain every class. His test are easy, I am not a genius in math, I simply go to class, pay attention, do my HW, solve my study guide ( that is the same of every test), and got an easy A

I have taken this professor for MAC1105, STA20223, MAC2223 and I have to say he is the best professor in MDC. Gives you clear lessons of the material and a study guide before tests. Also gives you an extra ten points on the test if you complete the online h.w. TAKE HIM!!

Really good math teacher explains real well. The only thing that I dont like is the tests are not exactly like the homework. The terminology and problems are slightly diffrent. I think this is because they use the same tests every class but change the books. I think all the math teachers do this. His reviews are the best

This prof is amazing! He is very clear when explaining the material which made the HW very easy to do. There are 3 tests and a final but the final you don't have to do if you get an A on each of the tests which is not a hard thing to do. If not then you have to take the final and lowest test grade gets dropped. also 10 points on each test for HW :)

Best Calculus professor at MDC. You will understand calculus with him, he is very clear at his lectures, and is willing to answer any questions if you do not understand. Do the homework to get extra points, and do the study guide and will pass his class. Calculus has never been more fun. Very willing to help and repeat.

The math I took its pretty easy, but for people that don't get along with math like myself it could be pretty hard, anyway Professor Serpa is AMAZING!!! He teaches and you will understand. Instead of getting a low B in calculus 1, I got a low A because of his amazing extra credit 10 points in each exam, take him. The guy really doesn't want to damage your gpa. Very nice and chill.

Good teacher gives many advantages to pass the class ( points for homework, extra credit, etc.) attendance is mandatory , no need to buy books.. Maybe the problem is that he does not explain very well the exercises, but if paid attention and you do the homework you will pass!

GREAT PROFESSOR! Math has never been a good experience for me & I got an A! One take home test & if you do your homework he gives you an extra 10 points on your tests! Depending on how the class is doing, he will assign a semi take home test. Attendance is not mandatory but I recommend it in order to succeed. He drops your worst grade.

Loved his class. explains crystal clear, hw is easy and tests are exactly like the reviews he gives ( sometimes even the same #s) take him this is calc 2 made easier! Btw i actually learned because i did all the hw and every single exercise of the reviews

Great professor! He reviews everything you need to know for the tests in class, will answer any questions you have without hesitation and is very nice! He gives a review before every test, which really helps, and every test is multiple choice. 5 tests, drops lowest grade & a final. If you get A's in all 5 tests, you're exempt from the final.

Very nice professor and willing to help if you show him that you care. Get the access code so you can the hw since he gives 10 points on each test from the sections that were covered and the hw help to prepare you for the exam. Study his review guides which he e-mails you and ask him questions. Very nice and caring individual. Easy A if you study.

Best math professor at mdc and the easiest of all(as long as you study hard). I got an A in his calculus III class. A lot of hw but hw will give you 10 pts extra credit if you do them all. The tests are almost the same as the reviews. Some times he gives you home take exams. TAKE HIM and you will have a high probability of getting an A .

He is the BEST!!! It is impossible to fail because he prepares us so well. He emails us the study guides (which is basically the exam), drops the lowest exam grade and best of all homework is optional, if you do it you get 10 extra points on the exam! I legit revolve my schedule to take his class. ENJOY!

He is a great teacher and knows his stuff. He does not mine taking his time explaining his work. His tests are in the same format as the practice guidelines plus he gives extra 10 pts on HW. Beware HW are long but worth the extra pts. Pass all his tests with As, He will exempt final. You would need to be really lazy to get a grade lower then a B.

He does not try to trick you in his exams they are straight forward. he explains very well and is willing to go of track to explain what you dont understand. Do problems from the book as well as study guide and you'll be more than ok for the test.

Good professor. He's very clear and his tests are straight forward. He adds 10 extra cedit points to each test if online hw is completed. He gives study guides VERY similar to the tests. It's not super easy to get an A in this class, but having in consideration that is Calc II, this class was a piece of cake. Math lovers'll kind of disappointed.

I took him spring of 2013 as well as taking another math class. i expected for stats to be difficult but with him, he made it simple enough to understand. passed all my exams with As thanks to the extra credit HW so i never took the final. terribly hard to not pass the class. you must be skippingasleepdon't care. RECOMMEND FOR SURE. WONT regret.

Clear when teaching. Math is not my forte but his methods are fast yet clear. Gives study guides and the tests are VERY similar to the study guide. HW is optinal but you get extra credit for test if done. Book not needed. My only issue is that he easily is distracted if the class is talking too much so he gets upset & rants a bit. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Math has always been my weakest point, but Professor Serpa was a great teacher and didn't make it hard at all. If you get an A in all 5 test (one is open notes) you can skip the final. Homework is extra credit which isn't mandatory, but it is important when it comes to your test grade as they can help you greatly. BTW no textbook, just mathlabplus

Great Professor, I strongly advise to study with Khan Academy videos online and USE HIS STUDY GUIDES! Do not memorize the stdyguide but rather test yourself with it.I had 50-60's for first 3 tests last 2 tests C,A. HMWRK before each test for 10 xtra-pnts Attndce & Hmrwk NOT mandtry but homework helps ALOT. He Drops lowest test and MultipleChoice!

I've taken this prof for stats & college algebra. passed both with an A. highly recommend him!! he's excellent & knows what he is doing. no problem in explaining again what you don't understand. 5 exams, HW optional but if you complete 70% you get 10 extra points on the exam. get a 90 (including HW points) on all exams you're exempt from final!

Hes a great math professor probably one of the best to offer at mdc. Get at least a 70 percent or more on hw you will get 10 points extra credit on exams. Get all A's on exams and you don't have to take the final.

Professor Serpa was one of the best math teachers I have ever taken. He was very helpful and his explanations made the content very easy to understand. Passed all of his exams with an A and didn't have to take the final. If you are planning on taking calculus then I highly recommend you choose professor Serpa. I also recommend attending class.

I'm currently taking him for STATS at Broward college. He gives 5 test, drops the lowest test grade & theirs a final, if you purchase the lab code you get extra credit, I believe this class is going to be an easy A for me because of how clear he explains the material. He also rounds your grade percentage to next letter grade if it's close enough.

Prof serpa can teach half a chapter in 55 minutes and still make it easy, I'm really bad at math and I'm doing amazing. I've never had such a good math professor, he makes the class so that anyone will pass if you study his study guides and do the hw, it's really easy!

I personally do not like the teaching methods he uses. He is very fast when going over reviews and mind you I'm pretty good in math! The reviews are pretty identical to the tests. Is not an easy class but he is not an understanding professor. Online hw is nothing compared to test subjects very different! Overall I wouldn't take him again!

I love Professor Serpa. My first math class I got good grades in with his teaching method. Whatever I did not understand he did not mind showing it to me again.

Professor Serpa is truly one-of-a-kind. I've never seen a professor that teaches the intricacies of a problem like he does.

Prof. Serpa is a good guy, and I respect him. His grading criteria are not as strict compared to other professors, so in that aspect he is generous. But he teaches at an extremely rapid pace in my opinion. Often he will cover brand new material explain it once and get annoyed when someone asks for a repetition. He often says:"as I said before".

Took Jose Serpa for business calculus on virtual school and didnt expect for it to be as easy as it was. He gives 5 chapters to learn throughout the semester and a mid term and final which add up to 70% of your class grade. He also gives some online quizzes and discussion posts that are easy A's. Make sure to study and you will pass!!

INCREDIBLE professor. Taught very clearly and went over things as best as he could(multiple times if needed) Gave reviews for All of our tests and even went over them in class. Such a sweet man! Definitely recommend!

Really easy as long as you do all the work in a timely matter. Work consists of discussions, chapter homework assignments on Connect, and quizzes. You'll also have a midterm and final.

I am deathly afraid of math, so I was advised to take statistics. Hard class for me, but Mr. Serpa goes out of his way to help you. Doing your online homework with 70% or better, gives you 10 points for your next test - a whole letter grade. Study guides are also key to pass his tests. Along with the math lab, no reason you would not pass.

Perhaps one of the best math professors I've ever had. Took him for Stats and passed with an A. Let us use for one test a cheat sheet. Took him again for College Algebra Summer A 6-weeks, same deal. I wish he taught all subjects! Take him if you're someone who can do their homework & follow directions. No regrets.

TAKE HIM! great professor, not just busy work! Took this professor for MGF1107, and would absolutely take him again. Lots of Lab homework but if you do 70% of it he will give you a 100% across the board. Discussions, as long as you put alittle effort 100% for those as well. Midterm and final non proctored.

Professor Serpa was a very understanding and considerate professor during these tough times. If you feel confused about a subject don't be afraid to ask, he will explain again. He was a very nice and easy-going math teacher.

Pay attention in class and you'll do well on the tests. The class consists of 5 tests (not including the final) and homework counts as extra credit toward tests. Homework can bring your test grade up a letter grade so I highly recommend doing it.

His online class is super easy. We don't meet in the BB room. If you do the homework, he will add 10 points to the test. All the tests are extremely similar to the study guide. TAKE HIM!!

prof serpa was good, he mostly used examples to teach and doesn't just read off slides. hw gives 10+ points on tests so a whole letter grade! 5 tests of like 8-12 questions and provides a review before. reviews are very similar to test. if you have an A before the final, you don't have to take it, just put in the effort and you'll be good!

Very good professor, projects and exams are fairly easy just a bit time consuming, other than that 10/10 class!

I took the course in-person. 5 tests. He drops the lowest score and the last test is take-home. Homework is on MyMath and if you complete it you get 10 points towards every exam. You can tell he REALLY wants his students to pass, even if they are struggling with the material. The tests are exactly like the study guides and less than 15 questions.

I had him for the summer. He would teach Tuesdays and Thursdays but after class on Thursdays we would have a module test. It was unproctored multiple choice through blackboard. and he would give you extra credit for doing the hw on mymathlab. The hw was pretty long but it would boost up your test score by 10%.

Took this class online, so didn't speak with him. This is an independent, learn-on-your-own class. There's 8 tests (midterm, final, +6 non-proctored), 9 discussions, and hw assignments. All tests weigh pretty heavy. No textbook, but you need to buy the online course. He sent reminders for midterm and final and provides a guide to manage your work.

Good professor that works with you to help you understand the material. 5 tests throughout the semester, with a knockout system that removes the lowest graded one. If you get straight A's on all tests, you get to skip the final exam with a perfect grade. He even sent me a congratulations email with the news that I got to skip the final!

Is easily reached. Gives reviews for all quizzes and tests. Is reasonable, understanding, and tries to help where/when he can. I enjoyed the online class very much and his reminders of assignment due dates. If you are not organized, you dont have to worry about that as long as you log-in as everything is painly laid out. 10/10 would take again.

This professor is just amazing, even if you are struggling he will explain everything to you as many times in order for you to understand the class. My favorite Mathematics teacher at MDC so far. Very organized and professional, lectures are easy to follow, grading is generous. Our statistics class was made up of 5 exams and a final, with the homework used as extra credit. The study guides and given notes were more than enough to pass the course. Would gladly take him again.

Professor Serpa was fantastic! I took his MAC2311/MAC2312 classes and he made sure to write out the problems and explain them step by step. Calculus is best learned when you have many examples and he lives by this so be prepared to write! His grading is very generous and he gives reviews prior to exams. Overall wonderful person, would take again.

He speed run his lessons most of the time but if you have any questions, he will stop and answer them. There are 6 tests total including Cumulative final. He will take off the lowest score out of the five previous and test 5 is a take home test. Doing the homework will help you boost up your test score by ten points. Overall a good professor!

i thought anything calc would be difficult but it was easy to get everything he taught imo. our final grade was the average of 4 out of 5 tests + final unless you got 90 or higher on the five then you didn't need to take the final. homework was due test day at 11:59 pm and if you got 70 or higher you'd get 10 points extra credit for the test.
