horrible, avoid at all cost, grading is random, he probably determines your grades based on a dart board. just avoid this guy at all cost
I loved the subject material, but couldn't stand this class. Jose was hard to follow, bad at explaining concepts, and sometimes rather rude. His grading was extremely random and the tests were very poorly designed (confusing wording, bad formatting, stupid questions, etc). Try to avoid him, but if you can't, then it's not the end of the world
Jose is a wonderful teacher, caring on all levels. He is willing to take the time to help you understand the content and WANTS you to succeed. Yes, he does talk fast but if you're in tune with the material, it shouldn't be a problem. Teaches to main concepts. I did use the textbook heavily and class attendance is highly encouraged.
You can tell that Jose really enjoys what he is teaching and loves the material. He is very enthusiastic, but he is very hard to understand when he gets excited. Test wise, he is fairly confusing. A lot of times he makes questions more complicated than they need to be and has awkward wording. He is a good professor, just needs to work on clarity.
Jose means well but I learned way more reading the book myself than i ever did in class. He has a really thick accent so it's hard to follow him unless you already know some of what he's talking about and are paying close attention. He wants to help and means well but if you can take this class from another professor, definitely do.
jose is an ok teacher. his grading on short answers is random. if he knows you skip class he'll give you less points. make sure to do well in lab.
Great teacher. Sometimes a bit hard to understand his accent, but if you raise your hand and ask him to repeat something you shouldn't have a problem. His tests are a bit vague, it is hard to understand what he is asking; however I have done well in his class and so can you.
Although everyone complains that Jose is a hard teacher to understand and that his tests are too hard, Jose is the best Biology teacher I have met at western. He actually cares about his students and will do anything to help them if they approach them. He is wonderful and passionate about the subject.
Stay away if you know what's good for you. I came in to this class like many after taking 204 with the intent of being a bio major. Not only did he destroy my dreams with his useless lectures, hard exams and difficult accent but he totally deterred me from bio all together. If his class is the only one open, wait till the next quarter. trust me
Like the previous rater, I had high hopes for being a Bio major. Like the previous rater, I no longer have those hopes. Like the previous rater, it is entirely Jose's fault. His accent is incomprehensible, his lectures reprehensible. He broke my dreams.
Highly recommend taking 205 with him. People seem to not like him because his tests were "hard", but if you study the material, pay attention in class, and ASK QUESTIONS when you're not clear on things, he will help you out. He actually cares that we learn the material, so don't complain when you EARN a bad grade on a test.
Had Jose for 205 and 206. You will never have a better prof that wants and will do anything to help you! Jose is totally willing to meet with you anytime to explain everything and he wants and expects you to be involved. Jose is great and he spends the time to know every person in his class, he is always in his office, go and talk to him!
Learned more from the book than from the lectures, english not being his first language really has a negative effect on your understanding and the tests. Came into this class with intention to major in biology but this class was a huge factor in me deciding not to major in it anymore.
Jose does have a very thick accent, but its easy to get used to (especially if you are prepared for class-read the textbook/PP slides before class!). Tests are extremely hard (but that is any Bio 205 class), you MUST study! He likes students who make an effort. Show up, ask questions, do the readings, you'll pass the class with a B.
Jose is veryyy hard to understand at first but you get used to his heavy accent. He does a great job during lecture at explaining everything but his tests are horrible. if you don't read the book thoroughly you are screwed.
His english is hard to understand. The tests are too hard. I spend more time trying to understand the question than to actually figure out the answer. The lectures aren't very well organized and he doesn't tell us what he's lecturing before he gets into the details. He'll try his best to help outside of class but it doesn't help much
Talked WAY too fast and jumped from topic to topic in no conceivable pattern!
Smart guy, but awfully rude to enthusiastic personalities. Is downright unapproachable during office hours because of this.
Jose's a good guy and he genuinely cares about your success, though he seems to have some trouble explaining the more difficult concepts. His accent is thick but decipherable. Hardest tests of any class I've taken in my life and he's not too great at explaining some of the more difficult questions. Get ready to study like you never have before.
Jose is great. Don't be intimidated. Go to his office hours, he loves it when you come and its very helpful! Spend the majority of your time examining lecture. PRINT OUT his lecture notes! I learned a lot. Make sure to be absolutely specific on exams, he will mark down for any incorrect wording.
I really like Jose. Enthusiastic and a great guy. But one of the worst professors I've ever had. Randomly disrespectful to certain students, impossible to understood, way to fast-paced. Gets frustrated when no one asks questions and then shoots you down when you do. Ugh. totally exhausted from his class.
WORST CLASS EVER. TOO MUCH INFO, NEVER ENOUGH TIME. if you fail tests, DROP. Not really Jose's fault, he's a nice guy (unless he thinks you're not paying attention, you WILL get called out) and cares about what he teaches, has decent office hours and is so happy when you understand something but OMG. This class is a failure on a departmental level.
Horrible class. He tries, but his accent makes it nearly impossible to do well in his class. Tests and quizzes are horribly written. He wants people to ask questions, but when people do, he will get mad because then he assumes people aren't paying attention. He WILL get offended if you say anything about his extremely poor accent. Good luck.
He's HARD to understand. I outlined the book and brought a tape recorder to class. It still didn't help. I got to the first test and understood very little of it. I dropped out of this class. Although a neat guy, he struggles to answer questions clearly. He tries to help but usually ends up talking in circles. He forgets it's an intro class, too.
He's a smart guy and knows his stuff. His accent is just something you have to get used to and it's honestly not that bad. However, he is rude to some students which can be quite annoying since he does create some drama in the class. Tests are fairly difficult but I would probably recommend taking Jose over any other 205 prof. Do well in the lab!
This guy knows his stuff, and is passionate about biology. He challenges you because he wants you to really learn. Tests are hard, but then again so is the subject. I would recommend him, but be ready to work hard.
I did no enjoy taking this class with Jose. He is difficult to understand. He expects students to ask questions in class, but is very picky about what kinds of questions are asked, and gets mad if you ask the wrong ones. His sense of humor was very grating on me early in the morning. This class is just plain hard.
Jose is a passionate and helpful professor. I had him for two classes - some of the hardest classes I've taken, but that is not all his fault. He knows his stuff and REALLY wants students to ask questions - so ASK. It helps make the class interactive and fun. Great professor - so wish he taught the bio class I'm taking now!
This class is awful! He accent is impossible to understand. If you can avoid taking this class I recommend that you do. He gets very frustrated when you don't has questions but you can't understand him so you don't know what to ask
He's honestly not bad. He is a really nice guy. Although he can be intimidating in lectures, if you ever have questions regarding the material, go to his office hours. He loves it when you visit him and he will help clarify things. Tests are fairly hard but with some studying, you can definitely get a B. I wouldnt mind taking another class with him
He has a strong accent but repeats things a few times so you end up understanding. English being not his language his spelling and grammar on tests quizzes and study guides. On a positive note he is very passionate about biology and can try to get points back on exams. He is fair on tests and appreciates feedback in class and office hours.
Jose is too hard to understand. Even his tests have horrible grammar. If you ask him the wrong questions he will yell at you. I went back and asked to look at my test and his answer key was wrong. He gave me the points back but only me, not the class. Everyone who took the test and got the right answer got points off because of his own mistake.
Jose is nice! He can be frustrating and unclear at times but most of the learning in my opinion is done in office hours when you can ask him questions. Way more helpful here than in lectures since he speeds through lots of things in lecture. Tests were difficult but do-able. I wouldn't mind taking another class with Jose. He's a cool guy.
Jose is not for everyone. He sees cell biology as his bible, and it needs to respected, hence the "yelling". But it is true. Science isn't simple yes or no, everything has meaning and connection. If you can respect it and honestly have passion for biology you will enjoy him. With that being said HIS TESTS ARE HARD. MAP CONCEPTS ARE EVERYTHING.
I studied relentlessly. Lab was the only thing to save my grade. His tests are incredibly hard. He likes "big picture" multiple choice questions. Questions that ties random things together. Also multiple choices are correct in his options for answers. you have to choose which one is "more" right. Prepare to be a D student
Jose is very knowledgable about the subjects he teaches and is super friendly and funny. However, this is one of the hardest classes I have taken. His exams are incredibly hard and he expects you to know things at a much greater depth than he goes into in class. His tests are also poorly coordinated with subjects he places emphasis on in lecture.
I wish that I had listened to all of my biology peers are waited to take this class with a different professor. While Jose is incredibly passionate about cellular biology, he is a terrible professor. He doesn't seem to care about his students at all and often got very frustrated when people asked him questions about the material. Never again.
While Jose is incredibly into his subject, he has little-to-no patience for his student's interests. He doesn't care if you pass. I believe that to him this is a weed out class, to get rid of those who aren't as serious about biology. However, I put in triple the amount of time I spend on any other class into this one and I'm barely scraping by.
Dr. Moreno asks students to ask questions but if you ask the wrong one, prepare to get tackled! Its not that difficult to understand what he is saying through the thick accent during the lectures but that is not the case for the exam. This guy is a "must avoid at all cost"
Jose has little to no patience for his students. For example, once Jose ended a lecture 15 minutes early because someone asked a question that he "didn't want to hear". He seems to lack the understanding that as a professor, it is his job to teach, regardless of how many or how "stupid" of questions he is receives.
It's very obvious that English isn't his first language. This doesn't matter so much in lecture. However when his tests are unreadable it becomes rather difficult to get a good grade in his class. I busted my ass all quarter (I have about a 3.5 GPA) and I don't think I will pull off a B. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM.
As a person, he can sometimes be acceptable and he loves his subject. Which is why I gave him one's. As a professor he's rude, throws fits, makes fun of people, and he even decided to discipline his students by not lecturing on a portion of material that will still be included in our final.. and class avg for first 2 exams is 68% after his "curve"
The exams are insanely hard not because of the materials but because of the structure of his exams... So much grammatical errors that you literally spend half of the exam time trying to understand what the question is really asking. My only advice for him is to "check" his exams with his colleague before giving it to us students.
Worst teacher ever! Doesn't help students clearly. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! DON'T TAKE
Throughout the lectures you'll think you understand everything and you're going to do great in his class and then come the exams and you realize you're not going to get the mark you expected. READ BEFORE CLASS. TAKE NOTES. If he said something and book said something else, you need to know what he said for the exam. His word over the textbook.
He is intimidating at first, especially if you read the reviews on here, but after a week or so I started to really like his class. Tests are specific but I heard the same for other bio 206 professors. He makes sure you pay attention in class which helps out in the long run for the exams. Really likes it when students participate. Very funny too
Everyone always says Jose is terrible, but he's really not that bad. If you go to lecture, read what he says to read, and study the study guides, you will do fine. He's awesome to talk to in office hours! He's really a good guy and once you get past the accent his lectures are fairly easy to understand.
Trying to talk to this professor is like attempting a conversation with a banana. On exams he wants you to analyze data from hypothetical experiments but he won't even label data tables clearly. He tells you not to read the text but to read the text. Don't even bother putting your contacts in the morning before class because NOTHING WILL BE CLEAR.
I will try to avoid him at all costs in the future. His lectures are fast paced and difficult to understand. His exams are challenging partially due to sentence structure errors. He doesn't care when his exam averages are in the D range, he says he does not believe in curving. Worst experience I've ever had with a teacher. Very disappointed.
Jose's reputation is worse than it should be. Yes his exams are incredibly hard, but so are other profs' in the bio dept. In my experience, if you put in the effort he will go above and beyond to help you. He is enthusiastic about teaching and he knows his stuff. Go to office hrs and ask questions in class. Not for everyone, but he is a great prof.
PRINT THE SLIDESHOWS!!!! They make lectures much easier to take notes on. Record the lecture when you start dozing off. Youll never have to read the textbook or prestudy the material. Wish I knew this for the first test. Hard class! Most of our test averages were 75%. Dont forget, Print the slideshows!! Easiest way to survive this class.
Worst professor I've had so far. Think rude teacher you had in high school. Very unclear and straight up creepy, especially towards female students. Always finds a way to put his hand on your back, shoulder, neck when talking to you. Likes to berate and humiliate students who aren't sure on their answers or even just look tired.
Hard to understand with a heavy accent, however he is very passionate about cellular biology and if you utilize his office hours he is very nice and helpful. Tests are not too tough if you do the readings, and study what is on the study guide. Always take his word over the textbook.
Definitely not an easy class by any means, but if you show up to every class, look at his slideshows, and go over the study guides, his tests really aren't that hard.
Jose is a great professor as long as you also put in the effort for this class. If you go into office hours, participate in lecture, and ask a lot of questions, Jose will help you get the best grade possible. Participation is a must to do well in this class.
Jose is hilarious and he wants all of his students to succeed. He's an absolute riot of a teacher, though sometimes hard to understand. He often disagrees with the textbook and frequently deletes questions on daily quizzes due to lack of clarity or due to disagreeing with the book. His tests are hard but the questions are fair.
Since it has already been established that Jose is a poor instructor, I will try to give some helpful tips. Daily quizzes: look at powerpoint slides online Tests: mixture of lecture and textbook, MANY grammatical errors Personality: bully, likes you to fight back, will make you feel like an idiot Tell the department how horrible he is!!!
I took this course at a previous institution but had to retake it at Western. Despite the fact that I had previously learned most of this material, & earned an A in the previous course, I have yet to work this hard for a good grade. I read & summarized the textbook & slides beforehand, & studied for days before exams, but still struggled.
Jose if you read this, please consider having a colleague proof read your exam. There are grammar errors that really mess up the meaning of questions. Also, please consider adjusting your slides as they have minimal information of what your really want students to know.
His lectures are incredibly information heavy, and the sentiment that his quizzes/exams are tough and full of errors is true. I will say this: if you go into his office hours and talk to him, he will go above and beyond to help you with any problems. He is by no means the best professor, but outside of scheduled lecture time he's a real cool guy.
You have to be willing to pay attention and engage in the conversation during class. Lectures go pretty fast and he doesn't come back to stuff. However, Jose is interested in helping his students succeed and is very helpful in office hours. Not an easy class, but learned a lot.
By far the worst professor I've ever had. He doesn't have a clear understanding of student comprehension and refuses to try. I learned a lot from his classes, however, his exams are more in depth and complex than the material. The class average for exams this quarter was a D-. If the entire class is struggling there is clearly there is a problem.
Jose is really funny and tries to make class interesting. Sometimes things are a little confusing and he doesn't like saying things twice, so it's really important to come to class and pay attention. Not an easy class, but will be worth your time.
Defensive when you try to challenge him on test questions or ask for clarification during lecture. Likes to humiliate students during class. Poorly written exams, lots of reading, and his lectures make no sense. Get ready to teach yourself. Do yourself a favor and don't take his class.
Dr. Jose is a really good person. He wants his students to succeed and is willing to work with you. On the other hand, Dr. Jose is a very demanding professor. His exams are mostly always multiple choice and typically have two questions in each question and it seems live several right answers. His tests are tough. Expect 55-70% average. No curves.
He is a super nice guy and he knows a lot about biology, but his class is super hard. He has an accent and talks very fast so it can be hard to understand him. His tests and quizzes are really hard.
I hated this class. Jose would ask questions on the exams and quizzes that he just doesnt go over in class and the questions are worded so weirdly you cant even look it up for help. Says to read the book, then says he doesnt trust the book, tells you theres no worthwhile material in the book, etc. Didnt know what he wanted and suffered for it.
All tests are multiple choice which is great because there are a lot of typos and questions with several possible answers to them. He yells at people when they ask questions, then gets mad when no one asks questions. Thick accent, hard to understand especially since he talks very fast. Tests are horrible, avoid if you can.
I believe that Jose is such an amazing teacher. I had an immensely hard quarter but he helped through it every step of the way. Yes the class was hard but the content is just hard, you can't make it easy. If you have an difficulties of understanding the material he is more than willing to even talk to you out of his office hours.
Hes just a bad prof. Was hard to approach and when you did he would be defensive or rude. His accent was hard to understand and his lectures did not match what was on the tests, which had a lot of typos in them and were all multiple choice. Test averages were a 65 so if you want a bad grade take him.
Don't take him if you can. Worst biology professor I have had so far. He is rude and short with students nearly every day. Tests are all multiple choice and always have typos that make them even more convoluted.
While Jose is very enthusiastic about his classes and is funny, his tests are really hard and his lectures are jam-packed with content. Don't take notes, make sure you pay full attention in class. Also, he only looks to a select few students when he calls out for questions. He gets mad when people are tired, doesn't understand busy schedules.
Jose is very enthusiastic about and likes to liven up the class. His lectures go 100 miles an hour so it's impossible to take notes. If you have a question he will either answer it or tell you that you should know that (never know what will happen). His exams are HARD, but if you study you should survive. Textbook is not mandatory.
José is so deeply passionate about biology and his role as a liaison of the immense amount of knowledge he has to offer. This being said, Bio 205 is a tough class, and he doesn't go easy. Tests are rough stuff but his weekly group assignments help prepare you for them.
Jose has zero empathy for students and is not helpful with student questions. He's not good at answering student questions, and he is not kind to students asking questions. He will often say, "I explained that ten minutes ago." He is incredibly difficult to understand and expects you to pick up on every word he says. His tests are ridiculous
Jose brought good energy every morning to our 8 AM class. He has passion for what he teaches, rock solid lectures, enthusiastic in answering questions and will not allow you to sleep through his class
Terrible teacher, I am a very good student and study extremely hard, but it seems like he is trying to trick us on every test and quiz. Puts in random information that we never talked about. If you ask questions in class, he will make you feel like you're super dumb. Honestly, just doesn't feel like he wants us to succeed.
I have taken a lot of STEM courses and Dr. Serrano rgoes at the typical pace of an upper level science class but tests at the lower level with just multiple choice and a couple short answers. No papers required but it is exam heavy. He expects that you have read the text BEFORE class but so do a lot of science professors. Funny in office hours.
Very enthusiastic about the topic, but not the most clear lecturer. His accent is understandable. DO NOT SKIP LECTURES- contradicts textbook multiple times and test questions are off of lecture. Test/quiz questions are tricky. The only thing in the gradebook are three exams and three quizzes (quizzes class average was an F)
Jose was awful. I stopped going to lectures and just studied his slides instead since he often rambled during lecture. He often was visibly annoyed by students questions, even if they were for clarification. His tests and quizzes were almost impossible. He had so many spelling errors in his test as well. Please avoid taking him at all costs.
I was scared going into his class based on reviews I had read but he really wasnt bad. I am a stem major so this class was just as difficult as some others. Jose may be difficult to understand sometimes and expects a lot from students and challenges you well. His exams arent too bad as long as you study the lecture goals and slides.
I took Jose for 205 and 206. I will say he has a very difficult class, but he also puts a lot of effort and energy to engage with the students! If you have time outside of class definitely go to his office hours, he gives a lot of expansive knowledge on the topics your learning and is great for clarifying information. Tests are difficult(take notes
I took Dr Jose for Bio 205 (in person) AND Bio 206 (online)- 2 quarters in a row. Both were my hardest classes. The only grades he puts in are tests, quizzes and the lab. You are expected to read the slides before class and the textbook at some point. His lectures + personality make the class worth it! Tests are HARD. Don't expect easy A's. 3.8/5
I was not impressed with the professor's teaching style. He used vague metaphors, which changed periodically, and he was exceptionally dismissive of questions during lecture. His exams and expectations are not clear, and he constantly contradicts the books he's teaching from and his own lecture slides. Wait to take gen bio if he's your only option.
The material is in depth so the exams are too, make sure you study and attend lectures. He also recognizes hard work, so make sure you put in the effort!
Having taken some classes from Jose, he is a really awesome, caring professor and possibly the smartest person I have ever met. Keeping this in mind, do NOT take his classes if you are looking to cruise by. The larger the class size, the worse he is as a professor, but that just means he's AMAZING during office hours. Seriously don't be intimidated
I tried to give him a chance at the beginning of the quarter, but I've slowly come to realize he's the worst professor I've had at Western. He is nice to an extent, but if you ask any question in class, be prepared for him to say "well i don't know why you're confused it's obvious". His tests are meant to trick you, not help you learn material.
I loved bio 206 and 348 with Jose. His class is hard work, but I've learned so much. The tests can be confusing, but to me it's worth it. No easy A's, but Jose (though he seems intimidating) is super kind and helpful, especially if you ask questions/go to office hours. Don't be afraid to take class with him if you don't mind hard work/want to learn
Hes obviously passionate about the subject and wants people to understand the material, but honestly really tough to understand his accent, esp when hes excited. His tests are extremely confusing, he says theyre based on the lectures but really theyre based on the textbook.
His accent is FINE; jesus u guys. There's a ton of content so take ur notes before lecture (he posts them early). He is pretty funny so grow thick skin cause yea he'll roast u, but that's okay; don't let that stop you from asking questions! He knows his stuff and is accessible. Just read, study, and show up and you'll be just fine in Jose's class.
I have never felt more guilted by a professor than by professor Serrano Moreno. I get good grades on his tests and yet am made to feel like an awful student for not taking his class EXACTLY as he thinks we should or struggling with certain concepts. He does it to everyone. He will teach you the material well if you're willing to deal with that.
It was impossible to try to write everything down during lecture, so I took in-depth notes on my own time. I think I would have been a lot more lost if I did not have lab to solidify my knowledge. He is not very patient and makes reviewing tests difficult, since you have to go to his office to see the answer key. Not the best class structure.
He's passionate, has a big, fun personality, and cares about students, wants people to do well. However the tests are v hard and designed to trick you, a significant portion of the class is not covered in the textbook (I'm retaking 206 - it's like a completely different class with Jose) and it's not an easy class. Fast-paced, harder than ochem IMO
He is a really caring person I promise! He does roast people during lecture, but just know that this is just his humor. He is very accessible outside of class and is very nice if you go to his office hours. Don't be scared of him, he seems scary when he's lecturing but he's just excited about the material! His classes are hard but you'll be fine!
Jose is a very tough professor but he really cares about the well being of his students. There were times when the class explained they were frustrated with his exams and he changed them, and times where people asked for an extra credit assignment and he obliged. If he is aware that you are at least trying and making an effort, he will help you out
Talks really fast and doesn't record lectures so if you miss anything it's a toss-up if it's on the test or not. Tests are clsoed-book, extremely specific, and designed to trick you. You can study for hours and still be underprepared no matter what you do. Weekends have group assignments and quizzes.
Dr. Jose certainly makes you work for this one but was the most energetic, knowledgeable and fun professor I've ever encountered. He knows and loves the material and is excited to share it with everyone each day. His lectures are wildly engaging and I was able to personally engage with the material. Exams are challenging, lectures quick.
Nice guy but High expectations. His lectures are really fast and dense, often on tangents. He posts the slides but they are unintelligible without his precise explanation, as they are all diagrams and acronyms, no explanation. Really exacting test grading and expectations from really vague questions. Class skims DENSE textbook & adds other content.
Jose is not mean like some of these reviews say he is. I actually thought that he was pretty nice. That being said, he does make his class extremely challenging. The test questions were absurdly difficult, and often poorly worded. You could study for a ridiculous amount of time and still do terrible on his quizzes and exams.
He tries to speed-run lectures to the point that you have no idea what he is saying, while he gets mad at you for taking notes and looking at the presentation. E
Honestly a good teacher, he knows the stuff and is super helpful during office hours. Lectures are quick and he has a heavy accent so hard to understand sometimes. He cares about understanding exactly how things work down to the nuances. Difficult class but you will come out knowing and remembering the information. Can make comments that annoy you.
The content of the course is made more difficult by how poorly he words questions in tests. The questions are designed poorly, and it is hard to discern what he is asking through the misspelled words and unclear grammar. Some questions are open ended and interpretative, while others are so specific we never went over them in class or in the book.
It was tough to warm up to Jose at first but once you get to know him, he really just wants you to exceed in the class. I'd suggest going to class as much as possible because his exams are based on lectures only. Visit his office hours and he'll be more than happy to answer questions or just chat!
I was honestly very scared going into his class after reading all the negative reviews he had but after the first week of the quarter, he became one of my favorite professors. In my opinion he is very funny and enthusiastic. All the quizzes and exams were online and mostly just multiple choice.
Jose is so passionate about what he does which I find important. He cares about his students and will question your thinking to help you understand on a deeper level. Tests are difficult but also online async. Has quizzes over weekend that are unfortunately easy to forget about.
Such an interesting and funny person but as a professor... very difficult exams with the only study guide being: study the lecture slides with exam questions referencing very specific examples we went over in class for 3 minutes. Very helpful in labs though. Just try do well in the lab because you will likely need it to boost your grade.
Dr. Jose brings lots of energy and expertise to the class, though his teaching style may initially seem intimidating. With preparation and participation, you'll find his lectures engaging and the material very learnable. The exams are challenging but fair. Unstuckstudy was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
Jose is certainly a charismatic professor, It's sunshine and rainbows in class he likes joking around and making you say good morning. Beyond the Theatrics and funky pronunciation of fundamentally (foondamentally), The Course work is extra heavy, Your hands will ache taking so many notes and it takes all night to review for his tests and quizzes.
I love Jose, but taking 205 with him felt like being sprayed with a firehose of chaotic information. This comes from someone who took A&P, Human Physiology, and Medical Micro and received an A in all those classes. He throws so much information at you and tests you on hyper specific details. If you get a B in this class, I would consider that an A
Do not take this prof, his test questions are intentionally confusing and aimed to make you fail. Completely unhelpful professor who often gives students misinformation in lab.
I had Jose for BIO348 and although he is a very knowledgeable teacher and hands on, he is so condescending and if you ask any questions that he thinks is dumb he will make you feel so stupid. I would only reccommend taking a class with him if you are extremely smart and feel like you'll never have any questions. Class is self taught.
I love Jose, but be cautious about taking his classes. I had him for both 205 and 348, and it was intense to say the least. I pride myself on getting decent grades in both courses, but I had to be extremely organized and proactive. Be prepared with concepts BEFORE lecture and go to office hours as often as possible- utilize every resource.
Exams were confusing or had wrong answers selected as the correct answers. Many students failed the exams. Incorrect information was given in lab that contradicted the TA's, and further confused everyone.
