Take prof.Vargas if you want to have someone that really cares for your progress.Plus, he gives make ups for quizzes, considering other that do not.Ask him to explain things as he is sometimes not that thorough.But I recommend him as a good instructor, one that knows his material and that won't turn you down when you need his help.

Professor Vargas is one of a kind. I'm happy to have had him as a professor. He knows a lot about Computers and has been in the field for years. He's sense of humor is dry, But you'll learn what you need to learn and pass as long as you make an effort.

I think the review before mine pretty much covered my opinion in a nutshell. Professor Vargas makes everything easy. He doesn't have any cohesiveness to his class, goes at a very slow pace, and can be taken advantage of. He wasn't even able to finish the semester (not his fault though). I didn't like his class AT ALL. I didn't learn much :(

If you know your stuff, this class will be a piece of cake. If you want to fully know your material in depth, this may not be the class for you as it's really really basic. 3 exams (took my 5-15 minutes to complete) and no homework/quizzes. Piece of cake. Very nice guy and helps you until you get it if needed.

Professor Vargas is one of the greatest cool guys to take Unix or any CIS class. He explains well the material and will stay after class to make sure you understand the class. I RECOMMEND ANY ONE TO TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.

such an EASY A class. hes a nice professor. tests are easy, labs are easy if you just pay attention to him. didnt cover that much of the topics of UNIX and i feel like im still not that proficient in unix. the class may run slow if he assists a lot of lost students. lets you out once you finish the lab. no textbook. i never studied but got an A.

I think, if you take his class regularly you will have trouble getting an A. He easy, very helpful, available after the class for help. If you do the work, he will grade you accordingly. Take this professor, you can have GPA

It was a very easy class even if you have no experience in web programming. He post the examples from the days lecture on blackboard so you always have a reference and gives great reviews for test days. If you need help he offers it and would allow you to sit in the next class. 3 test which are heavily reviewed for and a project and you pass.

best professor in the CIS dept. Took his 440 last semester and I am sold. Currently taking his 385 and planning on taking him again (485). What a great semester. Stay focus in class and you will do well.

Vargas is a gem in the cis department. He cares about not only his students but if you're understanding and not just following directions. He goes over the stuff over and over and is always willing to explain. His voice is kinda soft so sit upfront if you think you may have a hard time hearing. I recommend him 1000%.

Prof. Vargas is AMAZING!!! He is very patient and answers all students' questions. Finals are very easy. Most of us got a 90s or a 100 on the tests. Highly recommended.

Prof. Vargas is one of bmcc's best professors in my opinion. He is extremely clear, helpful, and wants you to succeed not only in his class but outside as well. He is always available during office hours and he goes over any concerns you may have. If you fail this class then you are simply lazy and should re-evaluate your life

Great professor, had trouble paying attention due to the fact that he is monotone. His grading is straight forward for tests. Class time could be shorter.

Gotta love this professor. He goes step by step and makes sure everyone is on the track. there were three exams. two of them were take home and the last one was in-class and a project. He really cares about his students. his lectures are so clear. I learned a lot from him. wish I can take with him again.

I think this class is way to easy. If it is an elective and you don't care if you learn anything - take it. I think that Prof has lost passion to teach and gave up as a lot of the students don't understand simple things. He need to explain WHAT we are doing, not HOW. He is a nice professor overall so I cannot give him a bad feedback.

This professor is awesome if you show up to class you will surely pass. But if you miss even one day forget about it cause you cant catch up with the programming from the past class. The first 2 tests are very easy but the last one is very difficult so pay attention to the last test because he will give you a review beforehand

This class was really easy. He literally shows you what to do and you copy him and learn and that is it. It was an easy A for me!!

You can't possibly fail with the best professor in BMCC. He is good he knows what he is doing if you don't know something he will explain it and will help you. I have taken 4 classes with him if it wasnt for him I wouldn't be at the level that I am at today. The most lenient grader there is and I became more motivated to get better everyday.

Prof. Vargas is a true gem, I was struggling with the class materials and missed out on the first exam, however he understood my situation and emailed me to teach me the basics, so that I can take my exam, therefore I took the exam and got an A and also learned a lot from his class without further difficulty. Professor Vargas has a clear grading structure, his classes are easy to understand and easy to follow. Exams are open book. Great professor.

Prof Vargas class lectures is quick, but he uploads materials on blackboard 5 exams one project. you have to put effort into his class otherwise its hard.

He's grading system is clear. 5 Exams and 1 Project. Sometimes he may go fast, but you can also ask him to repeat if you missed something. I recommend you take him; you will learn a lot from him. Also, pay attention to his lectures: Exams are open book, but this WILL NOT help you if you don't pay attention and try to practice on your own.

Prof. Vargas is an easy-going professor. Few exams during the semester but they're simple and he does a review before the exam. He allows to make-up the exams that you've missed earlier in the semester. Easy class would take him again. No text book needed. Don't miss his class.

If you choose to take this course DO NOT MISS ANY CLASS. I mean it. If you miss a class it is very hard to catch up. However, Professor Vargas is an excellent professor and his explications are very clear. Its a fast past class, try to keep up. If you get lost, you can always ask questions and he is willing to answer them. 5 exams=100%.

he is very clear about his grading, his class wasnt very engaging but you have to force yourself to focus after that it is really easy to get a high grade.

Take CIS 385 and 485 with him, as he is a skilled instructor who moves through the material efficiently. Feel free to ask questions; he is eager to help. Regular attendance is vital for success due to the significant weight of exams constituting about 80% of your final grade. Additionally, he offers makeup exams for those seeking grade improvement

Professor Vargas is very informative in the aspect of all comp sci majors. His grading criteria are easy. He does 4 exams and 1 project. Every sample exam is going to look especially like the main exams so practice the materials. He is accessible outside of the classroom. He teaches very fast so I suggest recording his class sessions.

needed to take an elective so I took him for the SUMMER! I can honestly say he is an easy going teacher and all of his EXAMS that we took he would upload 4 different examples and problems on brightspace.The exam will have a slight difference. He is very fast paced, if you miss a day you may have to catch up but he gives a lot of extra credit!
