Josefa is a lot of fun and made the 9 am class worth it. Even though she is the department head, she is super laid back. Very easy to talk to, office hours very helpful.
She is extremely helpful and really cares about her students. She is pretty laid-back, but a really effective teacher. She makes the class fun! I loved having her for Span 105! I would love to have her as a professor again!
Very enthusiastic, loves what she teaches. She can be very hard to follow, most people get lost during class. Class is discussion-based and calls randomly on people, which is tough. Assigns readings for every class, sometimes entire plays/narratives, very time consuming. Good if you appreciate poetry / lit. Tests aren't bad at all though!
A very fun and enthusiastic teacher. Also very kind and helpful. She actually got me to enjoy Spanish, which I didn't think was possible.
Loves teaching and cares about her students. She knows everyone's names and makes the class enjoyable and fun. It is discussion based and she makes an effort to get to know all her students. I highly recommend her.
She is very funny! and easy going:)
She cares about the students and enjoys teaching her subject. She speaks in Spanish most of the time, but not beyond what the students can understand. The class was a lot of fun.
Great balance between fairness and the chance to make an A while balancing learning and actually teaching you something. She is also really funnya fun person to be around.
This was actually my favorite class of the semester. Because it's a smaller class room (about 20 students), expect to participate a lot. I learned a lot and really enjoyed the class. I'm definitely trying to get her as my professor next semester.
I was pleasantly surprised by this class. There was a good amount of work and class participation is a must, but the grading is fair and it is relatively easy to do well. The final project is time consuming but not awful. Overall, great teacher!
This was an overall good class and Dr. Lindquist was very engaging and HILARIOUS. However, the tests were relatively hard for me (but I didn't start studying till the night or two before). Most of her tests and quizzes have to do more with the harder stuff of Spanish, not just straight up memorization of terms. Would take her again though.
This is a great class and a wonderful professor! She loves what she teaches and makes you excited to learn Spanish. The grading is fair for tests and quizzes and she is very willing to help outside of class. I would definitely recommend this class!
Lindquist is the best Span 105 professor. She loves the topic and makes class interesting. Homework is manageable. Highly recommend!
She is amazing and inspirational. There is a lot of homework and preparation to do well, but the effort is well worth it. Her office hours are always filled with students going in and out - if that tells you how incredibly helpful she is. She is always willing to help if you are having a difficult time. The class will always brighten your day!
I really loved Lindquist, she's very funny & doesn't take anything too seriously. Most of SPAN105 is review from high school, & she's REALLY big on class participation. She'll call on anyone randomly, but will never get angry if you don't know the answer. The tests are fair & pretty easy if you start studying a few days early.
Professor Lindquist is a great teacher. I took SPAN101 online with her, weekly online class is about 2 hrs. long and mandatory. Lots of homework! Must keep up to pass this class. She is great to work with though and will even meet with you individually to help you understand something. Tough grading on pronunciation though. Overall a great teacher!
I LOVE Professor Lindquist, she made what could be a boring class engaging and exciting. She is so passionate about Spanish literature and it really comes through in the classroom. She just wants you to learn something from the works we read in class. Workload is never too bad and tests are very straightforward. Take this class with her!!
I LOVE JOSEFA! Everybody does. Seriously makes class so fun. Take her!!
Josefa is an amazing professor! She is very clear on expectations, so as long as you do the homework and study, you can get an A.
You MUST take Josefa for SPAN105!! Honestly the best Spanish professor I've ever had. She is hilarious with a great sense of style, is always willing to help, and makes the class fun! Really makes it impossible to NOT learn Spanish.
Dr. Lindquist is such a fun and amazing professor! Class was never boring. She is also wonderful at teaching the material and cares a lot about her students. Also she loves UNC so much... it's awesome. Take her class!
Josefa is very passionate about the works studied in class, and it really reflects in her lectures. She is a fair grader, her tests/papers aren't graded harshly, and overall she gives you the means to succeed in her class. 10/10 would recommend taking a class with her!
Josefa is super sweet and funny! take a class with her! she really cares about you doing well in her class and shes super nice in office hours. you do have to participate in class. there is a lot of assignments but that just means that if you do bad on a couple things it won't ruin your grade. fast paced class, but doable if you put in the work
Lindquist is engaging and genuinely cares about helping her students learn. You will get out as much as you put in, but take advantage - she is a great teacher. I had a background in Latin so 105 has been tough but definitely manageable as long as you stay on top of vocab.
Josefa is hands down the #1 choice for SPAN105 at UNC. Not only does she want you to understand the material, she WANTS you to do well in the class. She will video conference at night if you need extra help and always make time for you during her days on campus. Truly a GEM!!!
Josefa has been one of my favorite professors in my whole time at UNC. She made this class so much fun and was always encouraging in helping students learn. She goes out of her way to make sure students succeed and is very fair about her grading. If anyone ever gets the opportunity to have her jump at it!
Dr. Lindquist is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She wants nothing more than for her students to succeed and this shows with the numerous online video conferences she has if you cannot make it to office hours. Speaking of which, I highly recommend going to office hours, the personalized help is amazing and I would recommend her to anyone
Such an amazing lady, she's amazing and really makes sure you're engaged and understand the material. And honestly she's so iconic.
Professor Lindquist is one of the kindest, most caring teachers I have ever had. If I ever needed extra help she would video chat with me or meet with me in person whenever we both were free. She was always engaging in class and never let us give up if something was too difficult. Cannot recommend her enough!
Dr. Lindquist is honestly one of the nicest and most caring professors at UNC. Each student's success genuinely matters to her. Her lectures are always interesting and funny. Though the material can be difficult, she is very fair and really works with students as long as you participate in class.
Profesora Lindquist is a gem. She's hilarious, and although the subject matter (Early Modern Spanish literature) is a bit dry, she makes class engaging and fun. Only one essay for the whole semester, but it's a 13-15 page paper requiring six secondary sources. She doesn't grade super hard and gives good feedback. Take a class with her!
The nicest professor at UNC. Shes so funny, caring, and passionate about Medieval Spanish! She brought us donuts for our final exam because it was at 8am. I would literally die for this woman. Definitely a lot of reading, and she does call on people to encourage participation, but shes really nice when correcting your Spanish! 10/10
Dr. Lindquist is an amazing professor, she will make you want to come to class and learn Spanish, even if it's at 8 AM. Having her class first thing was a great way to start the day, she is always lively and entertaining which definitely helps when trying to learn a language.
What a woman. I wish I could've taken 203 with Lindquist. Hilarious woman, always wants you to do well. Makes 8am spanish bearable. If you're taking 105 cuz you have to she will actually make you enjoy the class. What a gem.
Dr. Lindquist is truly amazing. The only professor I've had that made me look forward to 8 AM lectures. She's very approachable and her office hours are a must (she gives plenty of feedback that will help you thrive in the class). Pretty tough on participation, just don't skip and you'll be fine. Would definitely take her again if I could!
OMG WHAT A QUEEN. This woman is the greatest teacher at UNC. Periodt. She genuinely wants you to do well & makes class bearable. There's a lot of homework, but it helps a lot in class & on her quizzes. Highly Recommend!!!
Dr. Lindquist is the end-all-be-all SPAN105 professors. Easily my favorite UNC professor so far. Amazing lectures that are incredibly engaging. This is definitely the only 8 am I've ever looked forward to just because she makes learning spanish so fun. If you have the opportunity to take 105 with her DO IT!!
Professor Lindquist was absolutely lovely! I took her 8 am M, W, F online and she always brightened my day. There is a lot of homework required, however, it doesn't take long at all. If you have a background in Spanish it is a very easy class, but make sure that you keep studying all of the material. Overall I would highly recommend her!
Josefa is really great. Like in any language class, participation is really important but she doesn't make you feel stupid when you get stuff wrong. I got a fine participation grade though and I didn't talk every class so its not that bad. She isn't super picky about pronunciation in class either. She is super funny and wants her students to learn
My high school spanish teachers were awful, but even so I'm pretty sure she is good at her job. Very extroverted and agreeable, fun to be around. She was very forgiving and willing to work with students on late work. Did cold-calling, but that's standard for every 105 class and we learned to get good at it. Work didn't seem excessive.
Dr. Lindquist is one of my favorite Spanish professors at UNC. She cares about her students and the subject matter. The class can be dull due to the subject but she always makes it interesting with her humor and finding ways to get students involved. She will randomly call out students to answer questions so it is important to do the readings.
I loved this prof Im just very bad at Spanish and school online. She and all the other profs (combined class) were very kind and while my grade might not reflect it I feel like I did learn a lot of Spanish. Grades by a lot of things so that is nice. Would take her for 203 if I could
She was very unspecific and constantly moved things around. Do not recommend, so many other options in terms of spanish professors.
Prof. Lindquist seems unaware that most students enrolled in SPAN 105 have not taken a Spanish class in person for years because of COVID. Her lectures are extremely rushed, she is often condescending, and creates very strange assignments. Will be finishing my language credits at a community college after this.
This lady stinks. She runs all the SPAN105 classes and is not lenient at all. She wants everyone to get a B I think. Also, there's way too much work. I swear even for a 4 credit hour class. I had average Spanish experience before and thought I could ride it out and I was so wrong. Just don't take Spanish as a language so you can avoid her regime
Prof Lindquist was the coordinator for my Span105 class. The course is unorganized and frustrating. She allowed the quiz format to be changed from online take home to in class in the middle of the semester. I would recommend doing span101 and 102 over the 105 accelerated course. Or, do community college Spanish.
I do not understand how she has a good rating. She constantly changes instruction, her assignments are unreasonable and adaption to COVID was awful. Do not take her or Spanish 105 managed by her.
WARNING: DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER. (something I needed to hear before entering this dark, horrifying course with her)
Professor Lindquist, if you are seeing this please retire. It is unfair that you are managing all these Spanish 105 classes with this ridiculous criteria. The assignments are hard it's tons of homework and if you don't study at least an hour a night, you won't pass. Good luck taking her class.
Don't do it... Professor Lindquist organized my 105 course, and I genuinely don't think she wants to see her students succeed. Her assignments were strange and often had nothing to do with the coursework. Her exams were difficult and it was impossible to predict the material on them.
Don't take this class.
Prof. Lindquist was an engaging lecturer, but the material on quizzes and tests were so random that it made it almost impossible to study all material that could possibly be covered. There is just so much material, and Lindquist does not help point you in a good direction with study guides. Unpredictability made this class as hard as it was.
Out of all my classes at UNC, this had to be the hardest. Literally made for native speakers
She's an approachable person, but as a professor she has strict standards. The Monday after the 2 UNC deaths she held class, took attendance (which is a grade), and didn't offer a zoom option while barely acknowledging what had happened. Overall this class is very hard- I took IB level Spanish in HS and still struggled a lot.
Lindquist isn't as bad as people are making her out to be. A lot of information is review from Spanish 3. The only thing is that it is very fast paced- but that's just the nature of semester classes. She even helped my grade at the end of the semester. Tough class but nice woman overall!
This class is hard. But Dr. Lindquist makes sure to try to make lectures engaging for all students. The quizzes were hard, but she also gave a detailed breakdown on what was going to be on each quiz. Advice: Practice every day for about an hour and APPLY it. Do this at the start, not after the midterm.
This class made me enjoy Spanish again. She is very silly and loud, but that makes for very entertaining class activities. If you make a bunch of flashcards, you'll pass this class. Also, make sure you are comfortable with participating during class because it is REALLY good practice (albeit intimidating at first).
She's a pretty nice person, and class was engaging, but extremely difficult! There's so much content and homework. Participation in class is a must. The biggest issue was the final- where she told us there would be some multiple choice and word bank sections, and then there weren't. If you take this class you'll need to study A LOT
Textbook is free. She is fun and brings a positive attitude to class. If you just do the work you will get an A. You will have to do studying at home to prepare for exams. If you know the material the exams are easy. I really enjoyed this class. Homework is always due M,W,F at 8 am so I just do them the day beforehand. Quizzes are online.
Profesora Lindquist is probably the funniest professor I've ever head. Despite the readings being a bit dry, she makes the class so much fun. I looked forward to every class. She is super engaging and makes has a very relaxed attitude towards class. I could tell that she is extremely passionate about knowledgeable about just about everything.
Jo was by far my favorite Prof. She is so funny and kind and knows her stuff. The class itself is difficult, but Jo makes it manageable, and I look forward to class daily. TAKE IT WITH HER IF YOU CAN!!
I loved this professor. I actually looked forward to coming to her class because I always knew it was going to be fun. She's hilarious and while you definitely have to be prepared for her calling on you, I found that it was actually pretty helpful when learning the material. I would take her again in a heartbeat.
I really liked Professor Lindquist's class. She's very funny and engaging. I wouldn't say this class is an easy A, but I've heard so many people complain about how difficult Spanish classes are at UNC, so I suppose I was expecting it to be harder. There is hw every class, weekly take-home quizzes, two midterms, a final, and a project.
SPAN 105 was challenging, but I will miss Professor Lindquist's class. Despite a large amount of material, you can get an A by reading the textbook for grammar concepts and using Quizlet for vocab. Professor Lindquist's precise lectures, combined with her lighthearted and uplifting attitude, were truly inspiring.
Dr. Lindquist is a great professor. She made 8AM Spanish very fun. This class was challenging at times, but overall it is not bad if you just study. HIGHLY recommend her class.
Her classes were exciting. However, the paper we had to write was graded heavily. I did all the changes on my draft that she made on the comments but got the same grade. I worked hard on it and she said we 'had freedom' writing our paper, but I think the grading criteria was not clear compared to what she wanted.
While this class was quite difficult, I really enjoyed my professor, especially for being an 8am, she kept us awake. I only had one semester of previous spanish experience and I didn't ever feel super lost. Her office hours are good, I spent an hour with her before exams and she answered all of my questions and helped me with practice.
There is a lot of information to take in for this class. She is VERY passionate though! An enthusiastic and funny teacher at 8 am worked well for me. I feel like the content is difficult, but she makes you practice in class with each other and with her, asking many questions so you can't help but get to know your classmates in Spanish.
I loved Professor Lindquist. She is the director for all of SPAN105, so if you have the opportunity to get into one of her 105 classes, take it. She makes all of the 105 exams, which is helpful for exam prep, and she was an easy grader for the spoken portion. She is very kind, funny, and goes out of her way to get to know each student.
Dr.Lindqusit brought a lot of energy to lecture and effectively explained the course material.
Really like the professor, genuinely nice person who cares.
Dr. Lindquist is very sweet and has a LOT of energy, and she is clearly extensively knowledgeable in course material. My one complaint is that we had a lot of outside work for the class, like weekly homework assignments that take 30-45 min each and quizzes about once a week. Quizzes and exams aren't hard per se; you just have to study the content.
Jo was one of the best professors/teachers I've had in my entire life. She teaches really well but on top of that she is a lovely person. I highly recommend taking Spanish 105 with her- especially since she coordinates all of the 105 classes. Her criteria is very clear and lenient, she is accessible outside of class at any time.
Holy freak she is the best. If you're considering taking Jo Lindquist, stop thinking about it and just sign up. She is so funny and teaches well. Prob my fav teacher here so far. Actually goated
Professor Lindquist is too goofy to merit a professional review on RMP. She's hilarious and she cares deeply about her students. Her class was perfect: high in learning and low in stress. I'm legitimately sad it's over. She's my favorite professor I've had at Carolina, and I'd take her again in a heartbeat.
Jo is the best Spanish professor. Take her class!!
Dr. Lindquist is such a spunky professor that actually made me enjoy taking Spanish. While sometimes the participation in class and her constant group work can sometimes be a little nerve-wracking, she never makes you feel bad for not understanding. In fact, she will always go out of her way to help you in any way she can. Love her so much.
Jo made me love Spanish again. Her reviews are right, she's very good at her job. U will have a lot of HW, but it's for ur own benefit. Be ready to study outside of class if u want a good grade. Class was energetic & fun! Clear guidelines & expectations. I wish Jo taught 203, I would take her again. I learned so much & enjoyed it. 1 of my fav profs
Professor Lindquist is simply an amazing professor. She is funny and passionate, and she made class something I looked forward to. There is a lot of homework, but that is expected for a Spanish course. She was super accommodating and created a welcoming class environment. She is one of my favorite professors!
Awesome. Absolutely amazing professor. Do everything you can to take this class with her. She is so fun and attentive, seems to truly care about students, and creates a great environment that is not overwhelming. She hints at pop quizzes and the tests are very straightforward. Make sure to attend class, you wont want to miss it anyway.
My favorite professor I've had so far! I would really recommend taking SPAN 105 with her. She is energetic, funny, and incredibly kind. She is always willing to answer questions and provide extra help if you need it (responds to emails really fast). If you show up to class and pay attention, you're guaranteed to make a good grade.
Lindquist was so nice and caring, the class itself was also very difficult as I did not have much Spanish background. If you come in a similar situation make sure to look over material from the day after each lecture, I got quite behind and had to work back. Overall Jo is by far the best option for 105 and actually made it enjoyable.
She was literally so sweet and funny and I was genuinely happy to see her every day. Class was pretty easy as long as you follow along and participate and she is so helpful even if you don't know any Spanish. I loved her so much!!
She was very nice and funny. She assigns a lot of homework and the due dates are set at random days and times so it was easy to get them mixed up. The test were not very easy but doable if you understand what she teaches throughout her lectures.Sometimes she just teaches a little fast if you don't learn the material before class.
Lindquist is a great option if you need to take Spanish 105 at UNC. If you ask for help, she is more than willing to support you. She was funny, caring, and absolutely loves Spanish. I also don't think she will ever run out of energy.
TAKE THIS CLASS! There is daily HW, but it's doable and is less HW than some of my 3-credit courses. Jo is genuinely super funny and kind. Participation matters, but she never belittles anyone for their mistakes and tries to make everyone feel welcome. Her canvas modules align a lot with the midterm content, so be sure to study them most of all!
She was an incredible professor and I wish I could have her as my professor again next year. She's very helpful and makes sure every student is included and is following along. She is very kind and was understanding when I got sick during a test, and let me take it later. She is hilarious and very engaging, I loved this class a lot.
IMMACULATE PROFESSOR! Get ready to be called on, but she's always willing to help you get a better understanding. Daily homework can pile up, but it's honestly super easy. Her class was very enjoyable! Very hilarious and personable! If you take this class, take it with Lindquist! She's also the dept. head, so she'll make sure you know everything!
LOTS of working in pairs! I had concerns about taking it with her being the 105 coordinator, but it meant she could be much more flexible. Very kind and willing to help. Unlimited tries on online hw, so if you want you can end with a 100 for hw grade. Besides that, 3 tests and a final, a cool project at the Ackland, participation points, etc.
I loved Dr. Lindquist and she's not the issue herself, but the SPAN 105 curriculum, which she creates (she's the head of the department). This class took SO much studying and there was SO much homework to where I stopped learning because I had to look up answers to have time for other classes. Just take at a community college I beg of you!!!
Dr. Lindquist is a phenomenal teacher! She does a lot of pair work and always makes us laugh. She is accessible through office hours, email, and even holds a couple review sessions. She is very understanding and helpful without judgment, and made Spanish one of my favorite classes. I wish she was our teacher next year!
