Joe is an awesome teacher! Lectures are straight from a powerpoint that's posted online and test questions come from this. Lab quiz material is upfront; nothing unexpected or unreasonable. He is helpful and motivated about teaching students Anatomy and Physiology. If you listen and study the material you'll get a good grade-he wants you to succeed.
good professor, never thought that bio could be fun, he has a sense of humor and is not afraid to answer any question. Awesome class environment. No extra credit (or very little), but really not needed, his lectures are clear enough that if you study, you will be fine.
Very intellegent, kind hearted, charismatic, makes learning an enjoyable process.
Could use some more fill in the blank and short answer essay questions on exams. Exams are made from anything discussed in class and powerpoints. Helpful, clear and compassionate not to mention pretty cute.
I accidentally gave him the wrong score on helpful last time I tried rating him.
his intelligence makes him attractive ( this guy is really smart), awesome teacher, very helpful, fun and not boring. he is very approachable and is always ready to help!
Hands down the best teacher I have had thus far. Makes classes super fun and keeps your interest. Was able to answer most if not all questions students had. Thanks again Joe.
Fantastic teacher! I advise to read ahead prior to class so you aren't lost. He is super fun and has a great sense of humor. i miss him!
joe was AWESOME! he's always eager to help you learn as an individual and he really knows his stuff. his personality makes you feel comfortable asking questions and he's pretty cute :) in this class, i actually learned A&P. hands down the best bio professor at CCC
He was so hot that I didn't learn one thing in class.... well maybe a bit... I held onto his every word! I went home at night and played back the lecture over and over as I was falling asleep.... that really helped!
Awesome Teacher!!! even when there are stupid people in class that ask stupid questions.
Wow!!!!, I am taking him this fall and I hope he is more than just cute. After reading these posts, I can tell that people are ga ga over him, I JUST hope that he will be challenging and fun. By the way all the cuteness/hotness talk kind of distracts from the statements of him being a good professor!
Awesome professor-he knows his stuff. Always willing to go the extra mile to help a student out. Tests are difficult if you don't do the reading and review notes. I enjoyed this class. I took his 232 and 233 class. Keeps the lectures fun and interesting.
Joe is a great teacher. Speaking as someone who has had a lot of university professors, he is one of the best! He is interested in what he teaches, he explains things very well, and is never boring! He likes to be asked questions and finds answers if he doesn't know off the top of his head. Be attentive in class and you will do great!
Great professor! He makes these hard concepts easy to grasp.. and very helpful so if you don't understand, it is because you didn't ask!
He's definetly cute! Lectures are always interesting, however, don't expect to get an easy A. Must study to do good on the lecture quizzes, lab quizzes, and exams. No homework! I would suggest him to anyone.
Joe is awesome. Do not assume we love him for his cuteness. He is an amazing teacher. He teaches in a way that sticks in your head. He encourages you to build study skills and guides you every step. A LOT of memorizing but normal for this class. NO HW. Grade is TEST BASED. Excellent teacher, A+.
Joe is amazing! He's always smiling, very down-to-earth, and incredibly interested in what he teaches. He's always throwing in funny jokes and stories and that definitely help to remember and memorization isn't as boring. He is, without doubt, the best instructor I have ever had! Plus, the fact that he is younger and cute makes the class more fun :
Short story made shorter, Joe is an excellent professor. His lectures are never boring, he knows his stuff, and he expects you to study hard. His exams are tough, and easy A will not pass with this one. Whenever I have questions, Joe doesn't just hand you the answer; he explains it. He is always very helpful and patient with slower learners.
therefore it is essential for them/us to learn the material and learn it well. If you feel that he was not helpful, it was most likely because you did not ask for help. From my experience and that of others that have been in his class, he is always available and if his office hours do not work well with you schedule he tries to make time to meet wi
Awesome teacher, hes very helpful and will sit down and explain things to you until you understand. Lectures are not boring he makes biology fun to learn!
Joe is very helpfull, especially when it comes to answering questions about A&P. HE will explain it throughly until the person gets it.
Joe was excellent. By far my favorite college professor to date. Would recommend him to anyone!
Best A@P teacher CCC has! I've had all but one and he is the best hands down! Hes SO smart and can explain anything! Comes down to your level. Wants everyone to learn and get an A. BI is not easy but you can do it with him! He will make time to see you. Never makes fun of dumb questions. So smart, nice, and fun! I RECOMMEND HIM TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!
Great instructor. I like that he doesn't allow notes. This might sound crazy, but it forced me to really learn the stuff, and find out what study style works best for me. Gives extra credit.
He used to be very reasonable and clear about what you had to know. This term he is much harder then the other terms and tests on things that you didn't think you would have been tested on. he is still one of the better teachers here but defiantly not as good as he was the prior terms.
Great teacher! I would recommend him to anyone. He is passionate about his job and really knows his stuff. Joe is the bomb!
Joe is an amazing instructor! Will answer any questions thoroughly. Harder material naturally makes the class hard, but totally doable. Joe is very knowlegeable about what he teaches. Definitely would reccomend him to anyone. Best A&P proffesor at Chemeketa!
Bean is awesome. He's extremely smart- he can answer just about any random question you might have. If you want an A, record the lectures, make flash cards over everything he SAYS (you don't even need the text book). He gives very little extra credit compared to Protiva, he provides the notes so you can listen. BEST A&P instructor EVER. Hard A.
Love him as a teacher, however the material covered goes so much in depth its very hard to keep up. I work a part time job and go to school full time, while taking other classes I found it difficult to get anything but a C in his class. But he is very funny and helpful!
Joe not only taught me biology, but he taught me how to learn. He is by far the best instructor I have ever had. He has high expectations, and I saw many of my peers drop for an easier instructor, but I worked hard and got an A while working and going to school full time and being a mother. He is great fun, and in love with the material.
He is very smart and lectures are interesting. He is very willing to help. If you have no commitments and can dedicate 5 hours each weekday and attend study groups all weekends then you'll get an A, otherwise you better have a great memory because ANYTHING is fair game on tests.
Joe is a great teacher. The classes he teaches are very challenging, but if you study oftn you will do very well. He is very knowledgable about his topics and is very helpful. I enjoyed his class :)
He is a great teacher! Just have to be willing to put the time in to study.
Joe is great, one of the best teachers I have had in my life. He will be able to answer just about any question you ask, but for the love of God, do not treat this class like a Dr's appt. Your classmates will want to kill you. Anyway, Joe is great about presenting info in a way for everyone to understand, and offers extra explanation if needed.
Joe is easily one of the best teachers on the planet. He takes time to explain difficult concepts, and takes time out on Saturday's before a test to make sure we have concepts down. Approachable and extramely intelligent, if you want to learn A&P from someone who really knows/loves it, Joe's your professor. Cannot reccomend highly enough!
Best A&P professor at Chemeketa!
Joe is tough! But the material is, so don't expect an easy A, or even a B without a ton of studying. He grades hard on his essays, but he is so extremely approachable and can dumb it down if you go see him after class. Favorite teacher so far. (and yes, he's cute!)
The more time you spend in the material the better you are going to do, no brainer. He is really helpful and will answer most any question you have. If he doesn't know he'll tell you. As in any class good notes are key. Simply knowing definitions won't cut it in this class. You need to know how everything is working together.
Joe's a great instructor. He helps with fun ways to remember things. He's a kick in the pants to do lab with also; helps bring things alive! He's very passionate about his work & it shows.
Loved taking Joe's classes! He was so helpful and is willing to take time to explain concepts that I did not understand. He makes the lectures and labs interesting. He is just an amazing teacher! He makes you work hard, but it is so worth it taking Joe. Show up for class, pay attention, study his PowerPoints and the book.
My favorite teacher at Chemeketa. I actually looked forward to his class because he made it interesting. You can tell that even though he's technically a doctor, it doesn't go to this head. So helpful, will answer any question even if it's off topic. But he is tough, as is the material. You will have to work for your grade, but you'll enjoy it!
Best teacher ever!!!
He is my favorite teacher by far. Makes things easy to understand and is hilarious. If you need help just ask. He is a hard grader but it is because he wants the best from you! Study hard and you will enjoy the class.
He's a pretty tough grader, but any A&P class will be tough and challenging. If you are starting out with 231, take him for all three. I do not regret taking his classes, he pushes his students to their full potential and he makes it a point to help everyone understand the concepts. It's a plus too that he makes class entertaining and memorable.
BEST. TEACHER. EVER. This man taught me how to learn. If you get Joe as a teacher at CCC then you are basically stealing your education. This man should be teaching at Harvard.
Despite what these other students say, I was incredibly disappointed with this man the entire term. He's pretty arrogant and there's no homework. I struggled to keep my head above the water. He barely answered my questions especially if he was behind in lecture and only made himself available outside of class for "tutoring" 45 minutes a week.
Joe is one of the best teachers I have had. For all the people who think he is not accessible, you're morons. I go to his office hours practically every day and even when he's in his office outside of those hours, he still is willing to help. He is not arrogant at all. He is tough but if you put in the effort, you can do fine in his class.
Joe is a very hard grader and his tests are pretty tough. Although, I hear his tests are somewhat simpler than others (not sure if true). 100 questions& 2 essays on the midterms. No homework except for lab. Which means you gotta figure out a really good study plan for exams. It is hard to ask Joe questions because he doesn't give straight answers.
Mr Joe is awsome!! He is always there for you when you need help, he loves to help when he has time and even when he does not have time, he tries to make time. He makes his lectures active, asking questions to keep us active in class. His inspiration is the reason I passed this class. I have always admired encouraging instuctors who really care
Fantastic Professor! Doesn't hurt that he's just nice to look at too. Good motivation for getting a good grade. ;)
Tape record the lectures. He talks fast & you will learn more listening to the lecture again. He tells you up front that he tests from his power points, so memorize them. Quizes are given regularly. He's always will to help & he answers emails. Great teacher.
Joe is nice and intelligent, always willing to help. However, very tough grader. It is hard material regardless the teacher, but Joe does not give any curves and his extra credit assignments were a few, worth a small amount of points. You have to be willing to put A LOT of time into studying because his quizzes and exams are hard.
Joe is a very smart and helpful teacher, he is always answering questions. The class is pretty hard but if you're willing to put in the work you will get the grade you deserve.
As a biology teacher, his students are heading into the nursing program Therefore, his goal is not to pass all of his students with an "A" but to make sure that they know the information and material as if there lives depended on it lol The reason he is a hard teacher is because the class itself is hard There is A LOT of information - also funny
Joe is a wonderful teacher. He obviously knows his material, but wants you to know it too. He honestly cares about each studen. He is very inspirational and has a great attitude. His classes are fun and fast.
Joe is the best teacher I've ever had! There is a lot of material, but he makes sure that you understand it. Exams are lengthy, but I found that recording the lectures and printing out the powerpoints is extremely helpful. His classes were always entertaining and easy to focus in. YOU NEED TO TAKE HIM!
Joe is a fantastic A&P teacher! He keeps the class entertaining and takes the time to make sure you understand the content. He does not rely on powerpoints as heavy as Karen did (I took her for 231232) and he loves when you ask questions. A&P is hard no matter who the teacher is but Joe made the class a little easier to understand.
A&P is always hard and I have had several different professors. Joe is by far my favorite because he makes the information very clear. There is a lot to learn, but he is really trying to help you understand the material. He's super funny too. I learned a lot in his class and even though it was a lot of work, I actually enjoyed it!
I wish the rating scale went higher. Joe is hands down the best A&P teacher I've ever had. He knows beyond what's necessary for BI233 and is more than happy to share every bit of knowledge with you. He's always available, and very personable. I'd recommend him for the entire series.
I had the pleasure of taking A&P from Joe for 2/3 A&P courses. No matter what teacher you take this class with, there is a lot of material to learn in such a short period. Joe is very knowledgeable, caring, funny and willing to help you in whatever way needed. Devote a lot of time to this class, and you will learn a ton! :) take it!
You need to take him! Super helpful and friendly and honestly makes the material simple and understandable. His exams are hard but it's because the class overall is a challenging course. He covers everything that will be on the exam and is not tricky, very clear on what he wants you to know for the exams. Good luck! :)
I am not even finished with this term yet but I have to say that in comparison to 231 this summer (with a different professor), this class is a breeze. He knows his stuff and teaches it well. He is super patient and realistic. I won't even consider taking 233 from anyone else. All you have to do is study, he lays the ground work. A+ for Joe.
Joe is the best, I really actually enjoy his lectures. He throws humor throughout and it makes it understandable. You will have to put in the time to pass this course, but overall its very doable. I want to take the next two A&Ps from him!
Bean is awesome. I've had 3 BIO professors, & he is by far the best. He really helps you learn material by breaking down the basic parts of it & building it into something whole. The hour drive to Salem is well worth it. Won't be using any other professor but him for the rest of my BIO. He is also funny which helps relieve some stress! STUDY THOUGH
Joe is amazing. He's super energetic, and conveys material clearly (if quickly). He is okay with you asking him to repeat himself when he talks too fast. Tests are directly off of his lectures, so take good notes and memorize them; it's anatomy, so it's not an easy A, but it is acheivable.
Had Joe for 231 and 233. I took 232 in the Summer, otherwise I would have taken all three with him. He's very enthusiastic about the subject and makes learning interesting. I really enjoyed his teaching style and felt that he made things easier to understand. I liked that he would do quick reviews through out his lectures, repetition is golden!
I adore Joe and have taken 231 and 232 with him it's very important to still read the chapters and have access to APR, a direct quote from joe "anything from the lrctures is fair game" so take notes and pay attention. A&P is no joke and you will receive a grade based on your effort. Its 90% you, 10% your instructor
I took 231 with Joe back in winter term. Definitely a great guy with a nice personality. He is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the topic, making it interesting and enjoyable to learn. This is anatomy, so the amount of work you put in will reflect upon your grade. Make sure to study hard and ask questions if you don't understand something!
Take A&P from Joe! He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about the subject, gives amazing lectures, is very involved in lab, always answers all of your questions, is funny, and really imparts on you a love for A&P. Seriously, he is an amazing teacher.
Joe is the best of the best. I had him three terms in a row, and I loved his teaching style and approach. He is very passionate about the subject, as well as very knowledgable, which helps a lot. The professor really does make the class -- good professor equals good class and vice versa. If only Joe taught all the biology classes at Chemeketa!
Kind, chill, & he really knows his stuff. He explains in a way most people learn; he'll review ANYTHING, just ask. He isn't easy or hard, he is effective. Some EC. Take good lecture notes, actually study, ask questions. Joe makes it fun. he's also charismatic & terribly handsome; the man rocks flannel. Really try and you'll do just fine with Joe
I have no idea why he's teaching here he deserves to teach in a much higher level of education. I am so thankful for having him as a professor. Considering retaking the class because I got a B in all the classes and he made me love the subject. Its so fascinating and he teaches it so well.
I've had Joe for BI 231 and 232 and he a great and passionate professor. Anatomy is a hard subject and there is a lot of information to take in, but even so Joe organizes the information in a way that makes sense. Reading is VERY time consuming, but will help you out a lot. He provides a little wiggle room since he usually has extra credit as well
I absolutely love Bean!! He loves what he teaches and it shows. The passion I had for anatomy has only grown thanks to him. You will learn SO much from him and although he is a tough grader, you will get the education you paid for! Do the work and study hard!
Bean is a great prof. He takes the time to assure that you are understanding the material, yet you still have to ask when you need more help. He makes class fun and I wish he taught other classes as I enjoy his style of teaching and actually retain the information. To bad he is married!
Joe was a fantastic teacher. As much as A&P was a difficult subject, he did an excellent job of laying it out clearly and effectively. I would say if you have trouble gleaning info from lectures, he might be a bit more difficult, as he can go very in depth with things. But if listening and lecturing is a good way to learn for you, he's great!
Well, Joseph is a great instructor, the way he teaches and lay out the subjects is very clear and straightforward, he is there for you, he gives extra credit, he will explain things throughly when you dont understand them, he always answer emails, he is great. But his exams are tough. Be ready for that.
If chemistry makes you want to slit your throat. Dont take this class
Joe is the GOAT. I took him the whole series and he is incredible. He explains things very well, is very approachable and open to questions. His tests are tough, but he does give learning objectives to help study. You just have to put the work in. I love Joe though, and he is so funny and has the best personality I have a teacher crush on him
I was STOKED to have Joe as everyone raves about him. Though he's funny, it was awful. Nothing ended up getting graded so he just (haphazardly) assigned grades at the end of term; the last two weeks were void of any lectures so we were on our own for material; & he made huge threats of using materials then let us for the final??? It was a mess :(
I was so excited to take his class. I honestly don't understand how he has such good reviews? I almost had to talk to the dean of science because of him and he knew that so he told me it's ok to turn in an assignment. He talks FAST. He talks as if we would know the material like him. He lost it at the end. Hes not good online. maybe in class? idk.
He talks fast so you might as well just memorize/record everything. Don't understand why everyone raves about him. I would have to listen to his lectures 3X. Tests are long for time given & hard, I recommend studying several hrs per day. I had a 4.00gpa & 80credits & had trouble getting B. He is a nice guy, smart & funny but not my style of PROF.
Had a solid 3.8 GPA my first year at Chem, took this course and got a D. Hardest class ive ever taken. Most of his tests made no sense towards the material we learned in the book and in lectures and almost everyone failed them... Very disappointed and now have to retake the course. Do not recommend this prof.
Ive read the comments about this class, and yes, its true, a lot of students didnt do well. But that was not the fault of instructor Bean. I found his lectures to be incredibly relevant to the material on exams. A&P series are some of the hardest classes, and the amount of time/effort you put in directly relates to the grade you will receive
Im not sure what happened to his online COVID class. I took him the other term with the online format, and he was awesome. I took him this fall, and everything seems to be disorganized. Live lectures didnt help with the material. It was very hard to learn. Somehow my grade dropped after he already graded the exam, and it dropped it even further.
Professor Bean has been favorite professors so far at ccc. Very lecture heavy and I advice printing out the slides for lectures because his lectures are directly what he bases his exams on. He is very understanding and is very helpful if you ask for help. Received A's full sequence .I hardly ever read the textbook because the lectures were enough!
I took Mr. Bean for BI232/BI233 and I learned more in his classes than I ever thought possible. I recommend this professor for anyone pursuing a medical career! His lectures are THE BEST, he is always available to answer questions, and genuinely cared that I understood the material. Professors this good are hard to come by, a real gem!
I took Mr. Bean 231 and 232 and got an A in both classes. The material came easy to me and was understandable. Many students struggled yet but A&P is not a very easy subject. Has study guides and optional smartbook assignments to do before exams.
Professor Bean was tough, but thorough. Youd better be serious about putting in the time & effort if you want to pass this class. Hes pretty funny too.
Joe is sooo enthusiastic and makes learning fun. He's understanding and laid out the material really well. There is definitely a lot of material for this course but that should be expected for biology. Highly recommend Joe!
Joe is a one of a kind. Committed to your success, infectiously enthusiastic, and extraordinarily knowledgeable. Very sad he moved - Virginians are gonna love him!
