Excellent teacher, he really makes the class intrestings. And the class period seems to breeze by. Best for Speech 2050!!!
You need to take him! He's funny and down to earth and you learn. This is one of my most favorite classes and profs! and also, he has like 8 days where you do not have class b/c he runs the debate team, all the days are on the syllabus
Great professor!! I makes the material interesting and easy to relate to. There are pop quizzes, but he gives extra credit for attendance to make up for any not so hot quiz grades! Take him!
Do yourself a favor and take his class. One of the most funniest professors I have ever had. He made an otherwise boring class painless. The Speech book is boring as ****, but you need it to pass his weekly pop quiz.
I have to admit he is quite funny, but a total ass. Only if would could pass classes with how funny they are. All he talks about is TV. There a total of 10 pop quizes, which have questions out of the sky... Really Random... There is also a total of 3 test, including the final. And you also get points of attending the class...
He thinks he is awesome. He makes lots of jokes (often at the expense of students). He's not as cool as he thinks he is and you will not learn anything from the class.
Funny guy, takes attendance, gives 4 question quizes at random, do the readings, tests are kind of hard-but I didn't study too well. :) You'll get a B
He's really funny and keeps the class interesting plus it's an easy A.
he gives pop quizzes at the beginning of class. no extra credit. you can make up pop quizzes if you miss any unless you have a doctor excuse. if you are late miss pop quiz
Pretty easy class, makes it interesting. Pop quizzes randomly, but attendance is extra credit. Overall, I definately recommend.
pretty easy teacher, he makes the class interesting, tests are hard if you do not study
This class seems easy at first, but to do well you need to read for the pop quizzes and study all of his notes before the tests which means you have to go to class. If you are willing to do those things, then this class should be pretty easy. But don't be lax about the quizzes, they can really hurt you in the end.
the funniest teacher ive ever had. he definately makes speech interesting. notes are powerpoint, and attendance is NOT mandatory but it does help you out a great deal (you get like 11 extra points if you attend all days). the test reviews come straight out of the notes, and the test is straight from the review. attend class and youll do fine!
great teacher...great examples...great stories...great lecture! overall..great class!
GREAT TEACHER & CLASS!!!!! Topics are easy to understand and it definitely helps to attend class. Attendance is not mandatory but he does give points for attending. Just Take HIM!!! EASY A+
great, funny, down-to-earth guy. talks a lot about his family. i was so close to an "A" in his class. very helpful. COPY ALL NOTES FROM LECTURE! take quizzes seriously. they add up.
Joe (He doesn't mind if you call him by his first name) is a great professor. Very understandable and easy to follow. He reads and goes into details from the powerpoints that he does for each chapter so all you have to do is copy straight from that. Anything that's not on there won't be on the test. He does give pop quizzes though so you must read
Pretty easy class if you take notes and go to class everyday. Make sure to do the assigned reading, because he gives pop quizzes. Funny guy loves talking about pop. culture topics and isnt boring.
Bellon is funny and his class is interesting but he does give pop quizzes so read and take notes because the tests are based on class notes.
Makes the class incredibly enjoyable. So funny and nice! Pay attention to his lectures and always do your reading--the tests are word for word from the notes and the book. Beware of pop quizzes. Attendance is key to succeeding in this course.
He is pretty funny but he just constantly makes fun of anybody he disagrees with. Beware conservatives and religious people, he will make fun of you and your beliefs. Other than that, tests are easy but pop quizzes are hard and you have to read some pretty boring stuff to do well in the class. Definitely take all his notes and you should be okay.
bellon is awesome. you have 10 pop quizzes. a few of those quizzes will just be "sign in and get a 100%"...so it helps to come to class. tests and final come straight from notes and pop quizzes. He's funny and the class is pretty interesting. do yourself a favor and take his class.
Nice guy. He's very interesting and the class is really straight forward. Attendance is very important in this class because it helps your grade and you also have pop quizzes. Good class, glad I took it.
Excellent teacher! He's hilarious, and keeps class lively. But be careful: just because this is a computer class doesn't mean that it's going to be a breeze. Take excellent notes, and pay attention. Things can be very tricky!
Dr. Bellon is awesome! He takes a very technical subject and breaks it down. He's really funny, very intelligent. He explains things extremely well, and he's patient. The material itself is practical but pretty tedious. He makes it very bearable. Oh, and NO TEXTBOOK! Just make sure you go to class EVERY day because pretty much everything you learn
Joe was so cool!!! He is the funniest teacher I have EVER had in college. You should def. take his class if you can. Attendance was not mandatory but you got 1/2 point everytime you came- those add up and are very helpful. Don't treat the quizzes lightly - they matter in the end. Awesome class.
Coolest teacher yet. Notes are clear and informative and the guy has jokes for days. Want to get a good grade and actually learn something interesting? Take his class! P.S. He hates Rachael Ray lol
If he is the professor in a class you need to take you have to take his class. He has a great sense of humor, make sure you ask him the story with the meat grinder it's funny and gross at the same time. He give 10 pop quizzes but if you read the book (which is interesting) then you'll do find plus its a easy way to earn points. Great teacher.
He is freakin hilarious. Couldn't stop laughing at him. Never a dull moment and you won't fall asleep. You get points for coming to class and you get 10 quizzes. Everything was fairly easy
He is so hilarious. EASY A. Your grade is out of 100, but you can earn up to 110 points (so he gives you a ten point bonus). He gives "quiz hints" which means he tells you the questions to the quiz beforehand. Ridiculously easy, and enjoyable!
Amazing prof. Will leave you in tears from laughing so hard. Quizes are kind of annoying but just do the reading. He tells you exactly what will be on the quizes and what will be on the tests. No +,- in this class just straight letter grade. Might be the best prof at the university. TAKE HIS CLASS!!
Sorry, I put the wrong class. Straight to the point
Great professor! Highly recommended. Attendance is mandatory. Weekly pop quizzes, but they are to your benefit. SUPER funny! Keeps the class laughing & always alert. Always prepared. Test are straight forward. And usually get let out 10 minutes early. Great class. Even better professor.
If you have to take spch 2050, you MUST take it with this guy. He's hilarious and his lectures are very interesting and its impossible not to get less than A unless you just don't come! But believe you won't want to miss it!+ cancels class @ least once a month! Highly recommended!
He is hilarious and makes the class fun. He tells you exactly what will be on the the tests and quizzes. Cancels class a few times.
Good class, love the teacher. Very intertaining. I have gotten only 2 Bs at GSU and this was one of them.:( I did well on all the tests and thought I did well on the final but my final grade dropped. Its just studying things like how TV and Radio affect people, and history of media.
He is the best!!! One of the Funniest teacher I have ever had and I understand his lectures because he makes it humors and interesting.
He is so funny! At first, he seems to be trying to hard, but it makes the class very interesting, and entertaining! There is room for extra credit in the grading system. Be sure to study for quizzes(hint on uLearn) and the tests are just like the study guide he gives you!
really nice teacher. easy class. can be boring at times..its about media. but should be an overall easy grade if you study for the test. teachers gives a study guide for all test(including the final) and quiz hints for each "pop" quiz!
Dr. Bellon was a very good teacher who makes the class as fun as it can possibly be. He told many jokes, and they all somehow related to what we were talking about. Overall, the class wasn't too hard. If you attend class each day, read the quiz hints, and study your notes for the test, you should do fairly well. He is a great professor!
study notes and quiz hints and you will do fine in the class
Dr. Bellon is a very funny, awesome, straightforward teacher. His comments can be a little mean sometimes but overall great teacher. Attendance is a must because he selects random days to do pop quizzes but he warns about which 2 days during the week that they may occur on. Tests are exactly from slides which is not provided on Ulearn, only in clas
The BEST teacher at GSU!! U should never graduate from GSU without taking Joe's class. Attending this class is just like watching him doing a stand-up comedy!!! It's impossible not to have an A in this class. All the quizzes and tests are multiple-choice and they are all easy if you spend time reading his notes.
AWESOME! Take this class!
awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
Joe is quite possibly the funniest professor in the history of GSU! The class is easy and fun and you will do excellent in the course if you just take notes in class (which is easy bcuz he doesnt go fast and the notes are interesting). I got a B+ after failing one test (68) and never going to class. . . So yeah. . . lol
Excellent teacher! Joe is hilarious and will have you on the floor in every class!! If you ever take this course, Dr. Bellon is the professor to take!
He is a great and super easy teacher. You will never have a boring day in his class and you will laugh the entire time! He is the only teacher who can make the history of media fun.
Extremely knowledgeable man. He connects everything to the real world and is extremely funny. Class is mandatory because his test are STRAIGHT from his notes. Do what he tells you to do and there is no way you will get below an A. I strongly recommend him.
It's a stand-up comedy show... Oh yea and some teaching. He is great. Hilarious is an understatement. His class is not hard at all if you just go to class (which will want to do, because of his humor). Quizzes (if any) come straight from what he TELLS you to read. Tests straight from the notes. And sometimes attendance counts as a quiz grade.
He is very funny and always makes class interesting. I did well on most quizzes and tests, but some questions are a little vague, so be sure you are studying the notes and book. Overall, great class and teacher.
Joe is a really good teacher. He is hilarious and keeps your attention by making you laugh and telling stories. There is a good amount of outside reading that you have to do in order for pop quizzes. His class is fairly easy and he puts a review sheet up of tests/quizzes online. I would recommend him if you want to take Media, Culture & Society.
He's a GREAT professor! Easy A! His lectures are funny and interesting to listen to. 10 quizzes and 3 tests! Extra Credit also offered! You won't regret taking him!
I took this class in the morning and was the only class i didn't dread waking up for. Lectures were very funny and he knows what he is doing. Come to class and take notes from the power point, and you will be fine. GREAT CLASS GREAT PROFESSOR
What an amazing teacher with such a great personality. Always keeps things interesting and the material is easy to grasp. Grades are fair and you'll actually want to go to class every day. Bellon is hilarious as well! Highly recommend him.
EASY PEASY LEMON SQUEEZY. Go to class, take notes, study for tests.Super easy freshman class
EASY! Go to class, get the book for the pop quizzes, and take good notes because thetests come straight from notes.
You really do nothing in class. He IS Extremely funny! The only sad part about his class is that his test aren't on what he teaches. I would've had B+, but his grading scale doesn't have it. Only B in the entire semester, But I'm still happy because I had a lot of fun.
Best teacher I have had at GSU. Super funny and makes class interesting. There are 3 tests and he grades on a point system. Randomly gives quizzes on reading but posts on ULearn what to read.
Dr. Bellon is pretty entertaining. The tests come straight from his lectures and the specific other things he tells you to study. Give review sheets before exams. I recommend bringing a laptop to class to take notes on and to waste time while he's babbling after you have already written the notes.
Hilarious guy. Gotta study to make a good grade. Pay attention. Its hard not to because he is so entertaining. Learned a lot of random interesting stuff.
Funny professor, going to class was almost like going to see Dane Cook if he taught Media, Culture, and Society. He always had power points to copy down in class and most of the test material was from those. He had pop-quizes from reading material that he posted on ulearn. Pretty easy class and wasn't boring, I would suggest him to anyone.
This man is great, he was born to teach! He gets the information across in a funny and clear way that it is impossible to not find it interesting. You will want to wake up for his class. Take this class!
He's outgoing, has a great sense of humor, and is very comfortable with his students. Just make sure you copy down everything in the ppts because he doesn't post it online. Read ahead for the quizes-they're fairly easy even if you just skim the material. His tests are basically on the notes & the quiz hints. Don't bother reading the book to study.
Great, nice teacher. His daily powerpoints are exactly what is on his tests so be sure to copy all the information everyday to study because they are not posted online. Review the slides and review the few pages for his quizzes and you will receive an A!
I truly enjoyed this class. It was a lot of fun. He kept the class initeresting and fun. Glad I took him for this course
He is a great and funny teacher. Everything on the test is from the powerpoints shown in class (he doesn't post the ppt up), so attending class is mandatory. He is easy going. Wish more professors were more like him :)
Dr. Bellon is so funny. He makes the subject more enjoyable, and class is usually short. Always go to class bc you get points for attendance & he does pop quizzes. Focus on the quiz hints he provides and you should do ok on them. Exams are multiple choice, and come right from the power points. This is not a hard class at all, and I recommend Bellon
BEST CLASS! He is HILARIOUS! Make sure you go to class, he is strict on attendance. There are pop quizzes, but there are quiz hints online and all you need to do is look up those words and read over it before class and you'll do fine. Tests are easy come straight from power point and some stuff he says in class. Easy, BUT only if you go to class.
I personally HATE media classes, but dr.bellon does make it a bit interesting because he is humorous. There is plenty of reading involved for a quiz of only 4 questions. To be fair, the professor is awesome but his class is not.
Dr Bellon is a funny enough guy, but we would have nights with up to 60 pages of reading, not something I am really looking forward to on a pointless class. Take this class if you dont mind reading and showing up every day. Attendance comes out to about 10% of the final grade.
Dr. Bellon is awesome. Really funny and its obvious he knows what he's talking about. Yeah, there's like 40 pages in the chapters you're supposed to read, but he tells you which parts to read for the quiz. Its like a 30 minute commitment, tops. He takes a class that could be really dull and makes it entertaining.
He is super nice and funny! The stories of his life had everyone laughing. Good, solid professor. However, the class content I found really boring. Its annoying that attendance is necessary. Pop quizzes/test were super specific but the things to study he uploads helps.
Easy class. Very Organized. 8 4-question pop quizzes, multiple choice tests, helpful study guides and Power Points. He's hilarious, he will keep your focus the entire time. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone.
This class is pretty easy. Bellon is a funny guy. I got an A- but wouldve got an A if i didnt mess up on the second test. I literally got a 100 on the final. The test are pretty easy, but they do require studying. Final is very easy. eight pop quizzes and four questions. Quizzes are a hassle because you read a lot for four ques. Will have to read!
He is funny but sadly thats not enough for your GPA! With that said, his class is still entertaining! however, his grading system sucks and makes no sense! There are only 3 tests, and if you screw up on any one of them, you lose your chances of getting an A! the pop quizzes are ridiculously hard. waste of time, money, and effort.
His lectures are interesting but he is very un-predictable with tests..
Hilarious professor. Lectures were always interesting but I got a C+ because I skipped class and he gives points for pop quizzes, which you obviously have to be there to take.
Very funny professor who relates examples to lectures. Make sure you go to class, because test are straight from power points. Memorization is key. He uses point system for grading. Test are easy, quizzes are hard. Quizzes do not count much but are four questions.
He's funny guy but his jokes will not help you pass , I thought it was a easy A, no. If you don't read, you won't pass. 8 PQs and 3 tests. If you want help from him he doesn't respond to emails and doesn't come to his office hours. If there is another professor take them, I don't recommend him. I had other harder classes then this one and I got A's
Dr. Bellon is funny and tells a lot of stories during his lectures. There are 3 tests and 8 pop quizzes. The pop quizzes are based off of the textbook chapters assigned or articles that he assigned. The quizzes are challenging even if you do read. The tests are MC but you have to attend class and read the book to even get a B. Don't recommend.
Dr. Bellon was one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He did not clearly explain his grading system, never was at his office hours, he always cancelled class and uploaded the notes the class before the test, and he did not even come to the final exam. I would not recommend Dr. Bellon!!!!
Dr. Bellon is hilarious but also makes sure you have a solid understanding of Media, Culture, and Society. I have been out of school a while and was overwhelmed at first, but as long as you show up to class, listen, and do the work, you will be fine. He is extremely clear on the curriculum, as far as what to study and when - interesting class.
He never follows through with deadlines and lectures can be kind of boring, but if you do the readings and study hard for the tests you should have an okay time. The tests are tough though.
SOOOO EASY I got a 106 in the class cause he offers hella extra credit. take him take him take him. hes also hilarious.
Fun at first but gets boring easily. He's funny but talks about himself very frequently. Breakout classes are unnecessary and unhelpful. Tests are hard for an elective class- very detail oriented. Pop quizzes are impossible, even after reading the chapter thoroughly. A lot of extra credit, but simply said - a lot of work for an elective class.
The class was split into breakout sessions once a week and I feel as though some of the material was left out and never mentioned or placed explicitly on the study guide. Pop quizzes were very frequent so always read. Bellon made the class harder than it had to be but his lectures were incredible, amazing teacher, difficult class.
He was a very hard teacher. His lectures are funny but boring. This was by far my toughest class, attendance is necessary, the textbook is necessary and the reading are long, the test and pop quizzes are very hard and ask super specific questions over tons of material and his study guides are no help.
Extremely difficult class but not impossible. He definitely makes you work for it. Reading the textbook is a MUST to pass the pop quizzes, and even then it's still difficult. The quizzes and tests are extremely specific and difficult. Lots of studying is required. Bellon is hilarious and his lectures are amazing. Great teacher but difficult as well
Well for me, I got the short end of the stick. He focused highly on small details, and would make many students to get low grades on there tests. What got me aggravated was that the day before the final he gave three texts, 16 pages each to read over for the final. He doesn't respond quickly to emails either.
Pretty funny guy. However that's all you have going for him. This is class is relatively easy if you attend class and study what he tells you to study. Questions on the test that you can only know IF you attended class. It's really annoying how strict this class is when it's just another elective. Class isn't hard if you study but it is annoying...
If you want a professor to see you do well in their class then this professor is not right for you. HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!!!
Online class over the summer. Watched videos and typed up all notes from the powerpoints and took notes on additional topics he listed. Used notes to do weekly quizzes 5 questions real easy. Midterm and Final was easy. Notes helped out. Required news assignment was quick and easy. Half a page each. Extra 50 credit is to create a meme and thats it.
Easy online class. The grading scale is clear. There are about 20 reading quizzes that are easy if you listen to his lecture (sometimes the book may be needed but rarely). About 3 extra credit opportunities 1 for syllabus quiz, 1 for pre and post assignment and 1 for newspaper article . 2 or 3 exams that are fairly easy. Easy elective class.
I took the online version of this course. Super super easy. There are a total of 20 online quizzes, 2 a week. Use the textbook and podcasts for the quizzes. There are 3 online tests, questions come from podcasts only. He offers 3 extra credit opportunities. An easy way to get this elective course done. Definitely take this class! Great professor!
Dr. Bellon was extremely clear and accommodating. Was skeptical at first after reading some of the reviews, but I am so thankful that I didn't let those reviews deter me from taking his class, do the work, listen to the podcasts, complete the study guides, EASY A!!!!
Easy A. Get an online textbook for the online class. Ctrl-F will be your best friend for the 5 question quizzes. Type up notes from podcast lectures (set playback speed to x1.25 - youre welcome). Lots of extra credit points offered. You wont regret taking this class.
Type up his podcasts word for word and do what he says to look up in the textbook at the end of each lecture. That is where a lot of people mess up, by not doing his lectures. Easiest A+ ever. There is a lot of extra credit given also! I would definitely take him again if I had the option.
Make sure you listen to all of the podcasts, all of the info you need to know for the tests are there (I played them at 1.5 speed and still understood them). He explains everything really well and has a very thought provoking point of view. You can probably do well without the book, but there are certain things you will need it for.
Such a good professor to take for SCOM 2050. He is passionate about the material and easy-going. The material is straight-forward and all quizzes/tests pertain directly to what you learn in the book/podcasts/readings. He is personable and kind, so don't hesitate to write him emails. I would definitely take him again.
I took this online and it was a tough class, but completely on my part. Every week you know what to expect and he provides a study guide for each exam which is really helpful. I never listened to the podcasts until the end of the semester and i wish i had before. This will be an easy class if you make it easy for yourself.
I loved Dr. Bellon's lectures, he's funny and makes you interested in mass communication/media. The quizzes were easy, I only read definitions in the book and listened/took notes on his lectures to really grasp the concept. Easy to understand. 2 exams and 1 final, all easy if you read definitions/people in the book and review his lectures. Easy A!
This course was a highlight of me semester during Covid. He was my most organized teacher and his work was straightforward. His lectures are funny and informative. The quizzes and tests are easy. Just read the chapters and watch the video lectures. He even offered an extra credit assignment. 10/10!
The organization of this class was amazing. We would only have chapter quizzes and module exams. The lectures Dr. Bellon provided were very informational and funny! He was a very understanding and works well with his students! Definitely one of my favorite professors this semester.
Super chill class! Took it over the summer 9/10. Take him if you need this class. Textbook required but you may be able to get around it at your own risk. EC opportunities too.
Dr. Bellon's online SCOM 2050 class was very easy to follow. He sets clear deadlines, so nothing is ever a surprise. The workload is very manageable, and he responds quickly by E-mail. The quizzes are very easy, and the tests aren't bad at all.
Very easy, quick assignments, clear deadlines, but rude over email. If you take it online and don't have to communicate, then great professor. If you need help be polite and clear, but expect him to be blunt. Lots of extra credit, take advantage of it
This professor has weekly quizzes that are a few questions based on the textbook chapters. They're easy. The tests are based on the textbook and recorded lectures so make sure to watch those. As long as you keep up with the class content, you will be fine. If you actually take time to look at the study guide and answer the questions you're good.
Great professor. His grading and assignments were very clear.
My main problem with this class is the terrible pacing. Quizzes are due on a seemingly random day each week, which made it harder to keep up with deadlines. Also some the questions on the quizzes and tests did not come from information given in the podcasts or textbook, which was really annoying, as these are the only resources given for the class.
The class was pretty easy. You had a lot of chances to better your grade with quizzes. The honors section had two extra papers. The only thing that got kind of annoying was the quiz due dates. They were due on random days of the week. Sometimes there were things that didn't come from the textbook or the podcasts. You just needed to read the podcast
the structure of the class was very straightforward: read textbook chapter, watch lecture/podcast, do quiz, do study guide. the issue others brought up was that quizzes and tests didnt land on a specific day of the week, which was mildly annoying but if you have good time management/keep a calendar, youll be fine.
One of the easiest, least stressful, and interesting classes I've taken. A short quiz or two every week (Beware: they fall on random days, so make sure to keep track), and the questions are pulled straight from the textbook. The tests are not lockdown, and you have unlimited time on them too. A crazy amount of extra credit is offered as well.
Really easy just listen to his lectures, they're not boing he's pretty interactive on them. They are also pre recorded so you can always go back on them. You will have to buy the textbook on connect, because he wrote it. As long as you skim the book and take notes you should be fine. Two quizzes a week and a module test every two or so weeks.
Great professor. Very clear grading criteria. It was a pleasant course experience.
Dr. Bellon is a great professor for SCOM 2050! This class isn't hard, but the quizzes and tests are due on random days. There are 18 quizzes, 6 tests and extra credit is offered. He doesn't update icollege often. Podcasts and textbooks help on the quizzes and tests which are open note. Good class to take during the summer to make up any credits.
This class is a breeze if you stay on top of the material. Weekly quizzes and tests are straightforward, just make sure to review the textbook and lecture recordings. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for preparing and staying organized.
Take Scom 2050 online with this professor he is great! His class is the easiest. It is made of 18 quizzes, a sybullas quiz, 4 extra credit opportunities, 6 exams including the final but I highly recommend it .
Very funny and great prof. Hes very nice and will reply very fast if help is needed. Now i would Bellon recommend to actually watch all his lectures, theyre quite information. Easy class
I took his class while studying abroad, he does not mind if you are late to an assignment but he wants you to communicate with him if you are. Overall not an insane class, was not too difficult and was easy to balance with my other course work. The material that is used on exams and quizzes is found in the slides, make sure to read them!
graded only on quizzes and tests. Textbook is about $90, it is MANDATORY for tests but lots reading. Easy A though. And barely responds to your emails.
